* ActingForTwo:
** Jane's father and Harry Armis are both [[DirectedByCastMember played]] by writer and director Michael Anderson.
** Samantha Eggersoll plays the bag lady who rapes Thresher, and voices John's mother.
* AlanSmithee: While Michael Anderson is credited under his real name as director, his credit for playing Harry Armis uses the character's name instead.
* ColbertBump:
** WebVideo/TheAngryVideoGameNerd's review is probably the most publicity this thing ever got. It's to the point that Creator/JamesRolfe is even interviewed for the remaster's feature for his credit of bumping this title from obscurity with his review.
** It also made Jeanne Basone slightly more famous than before, as prior to online reviews, she was fairly obscure.
* CreatorBacklash: The actress who played Jane, Jeanne Basone, posted on Website/GameFAQs (as hollymwood69), [[https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/584456-plumbers-dont-wear-ties/50625778 mentioning she only did the part as a favor for her friend]]. While she didn't remember too much about it, she did understand how bad it was upon watching it herself.
-->''"yes I am aware and I have been getting several emails, it was so long ago, kinda funny and lame at the same time, I have to laugh at all of us, helping our friend Michael (Anderson, the game's director) out at the time. never thought it would ever see daylight, if you know what I mean..."''
* DirectedByCastMember: As stated above, writer and director Michael Anderson plays Harry Armis and Jane's father.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes:
** Unsurprisingly, for over two decades, this had never seen release anywhere beyond the 3DO (such as the Sega CD), and the 3DO itself was under most gamers' radars at the time, which didn't help (though having mainstream publicity probably would have only driven this game's reputation down even further). It wouldn't be until 2021 when Limited Run Games would announce a remaster for [=PlayStation=] 4, [=PlayStation=] 5 and Nintendo Switch during [=E3=] 2021.
** The game's original PC version had an ''extremely'' limited run, as so few copies were distributed that it took until 2017 to find a copy of it.
* LimitedSpecialCollectorsUltimateEdition: The Limited Run Games' Collectors Edition for Switch, [=PlayStation=] 4, [=PlayStation=] 5, Xbox and PC, released in 2023, came with the game itself, a strategy guide, a two-sided 18 x 24 poster, a sticker sheet, a "Plumber on a bike" decal, a 7" vinyl, a signed framed picture by Jeanne Basone herself, and a replica tie.
* MoneyDearBoy: The game's lead actress, Jeanne Basone, admits she only took part in it as a favor for her friend, so long as she was paid.
* NoBudget: While exactly how much was spent is unknown due to records being lost, it clearly wasn't much; most of the actors recorded their scenes in a parking lot rather than a studio (Anderson recorded his scenes in his living room), and no permits were issued for exterior shots.
* OneBookAuthor:
** The original PC version was the only title produced by United Pixtures.
** Many of the people involved (including Anderson) have (at most) few other [=IMDb=] credits.
* ScheduleSlip: The UpdatedReRelease was originally set for release in 2022, then was pushed back to September 2023 and December of that year. It was eventually released on March 5, 2024, with the Steam release delayed for unknown reasons.
* ThrowItIn: A blooper in which Edward J. Fasulo (John) accidentally says "I've been searching for me" instead of "searching for you," and then breaks character, was intentionally left in the game, supposedly because the creators found it humorous. {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d by Paul Bokor (Thresher) snarking "{{Freudian Slip}}ped?", and Anderson in the background declaring "I'm gonna keep that in the script!".
* UncreditedRole: Amy's actress is not billed in the credits. Neither are the two decision screen narrators in the 3DO version.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The game was originally going to be full-motion video, but (depending on who you ask) due to either the technical limitations of computers at the time or fear of MoralGuardians raising a ruckus (as this was around the time games like VideoGame/NightTrap and VideoGame/MortalKombat were being sensationalized by the media), it was changed to a slideshow. A new FMV opening was added in the 3DO port, however.
