* CreatorBacklash: In the magazine's final issue, Steve Thompson said his biggest regret in his time writing for it was giving ''VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog'' an 8 out of 10. Thompson felt in hindsight he was far too lenient with the game, calling it "an abomination".
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer:
** Parodied by Chris Hoffman, who insists that [[Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog Tails]] is a mutant squirrel despite being a fox.
** One Mario joke said that Mario can see into the future by using a Luigi board. Apparently the fan that submitted it wasn't aware that Ouija boards are used to contact spirits, not see into the future!
* ExecutiveMeddling: A contributing factor to the gradual loss of features as the magazine went on.
* OfficialFanSubmittedContent: ''NP'' held the only North American entry of the otherwise Japan-only ''VideoGame/MegaManClassic'' Robot Master Design contest series, and two entries, Wind Man and Knight Man, were used in ''VideoGame/MegaMan6''.
* PreOrderBonus: Notable subscription bonuses include a copy of ''[[VideoGame/DragonQuestI Dragon Warrior]]'', a ''VideoGame/{{S|uperSmashBrosMelee}}mashing Live!'' orchestral soundtrack CD, and the ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda: Collector's Edition'' CompilationRerelease for Gamecube.
* PromotedFanboy: Steven Grimm, an ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossing'' fan, has been spotted in the credits for ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossingCityFolk''. He appears to have gotten a job at Nintendo, because he's also credited in ''VideoGame/MarioParty8'' and ''VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising''.
* TheRedStapler: An example of the trope in action, as Songbird Ocarina ads featuring ones like in ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime'' were a staple of the magazine for at over 12 years, from '99 right up until its cancellation.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: The reason the magazine stopped being published was because {{Creator/Nintendo}} lost interest in getting it published in any form. Sad, especially since it had decent sales even in its dying days.
* {{Vaporware}}: The magazine previewed several games that went unreleased:
** ''VideoGame/TalesOfPhantasia'' and ''VideoGame/StarOcean1'', before any kind of localization had been announced. The articles were even rather angled toward hoping readers would write in, encouraging such.
** The SNES ''Franchise/{{Godzilla}}'' fighting game ''Godzilla: Great Monster Battle'' was going to be localized as ''Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters'' (a [[VideoGame/PipeworksGodzillaTrilogy game by that name]] ''would'' get released, but it was a different 3D fighting game on the Platform/NintendoGamecube).
** The localization of the ''VideoGame/WorldsOfUltimaTheSavageEmpire'' port on the Super Famicom.
** Localizations of the Famicom games ''Chester Field: Ankoku Shin e no Chousen'', as ''Chester Field'', ''Nangoku Shirei!!: Spy Vs Spy'', as ''Spy vs. Spy II: The Island Caper'', and ''Perfect Bowling'', as ''USA Bowling''.
** The NES games ''Super Sushi Pinball'', ''Urban Convoy'', ''Web World'' and ''Wild Boys''.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: As stated on the main page, they were originally going to call themselves ''Power Play'', but went with their current name once they found out the name was already taken.
