!![[Film/LegallyBlonde The Film]]
* ActorInspiredElement: Creator/ReeseWitherspoon suggested the one million dog march in the sequel.
* CaliforniaDoubling: Elle and Warner's conversation outside the courtroom was filmed in England, as that's where Creator/ReeseWitherspoon and Matthew Davis were filming at the time of re-shoots. From the sequel Elle's senate hearing was shot at the Springfield, Illinois capital building, due to it looking the closest to the capital building in Washington D.C.
* CompletelyDifferentTitle: The film was titled ''Cutie Blonde'' in Japanese.
* CreatorBacklash: Creator/ReeseWitherspoon hated working on the sequel and the result of it so much, she canceled any plans for a third film. She has since been more open to returning to the franchise as long as they have a good enough story. Come 2018, where it was announced she would do a third film.
* CreatorInJoke: Elle keeping her resume on pink, scented paper is a nod to the author Amanda Brown - whose manuscript got accepted because it was the only one written on pink scented paper.
* DeletedRole: Creator/HollandTaylor was supposed to make a cameo as Professor Stromwell in the second movie during the montage after Elle's "Stand Up!" speech but was left out of the final cut.
* DevelopmentHell: The third movie, which has been in consideration for years and gone through multiple scripts. Creator/ReeseWitherspoon has adamantly stated it will happen at some point. It was eventually announced in 2018.
* TheForeignSubtitle: The sequel was titled ''Legalmente rubia 2: Más rubia que nunca''[[note]]Legally Blonde 2: Blonder Than Ever[[/note]] in Latin American Spanish.
* HideYourPregnancy: Creator/ReeseWitherspoon had gotten pregnant between the time principal photography wrapped and the reshoots were done on the second film. Since it was only for the reshoots, it’s only in a few scenes and not as noticeable as some instances of this trope. The only time it is very noticeable is in the opening scene where everyone is sitting around talking and shot from only the chest up.
* MethodActing: Creator/ReeseWitherspoon decided to meet with several sorority girls to prepare for the role, not wanting to play a typical airhead. She found most of the girls to be very kind and polite - much as the various people at Harvard discover that Elle is not the AlphaBitch they'd assumed her to be. She also attended law school briefly.
* TheOtherDarrin: In the Latin American Spanish dub, Paulette Bonifante was voiced by Lourdes Morán for the first film and by Belinda Martínez for the second film.
* PetFadStarter: This film has been credited with popularizing Chihuahuas as "accessory" dogs.
* RealLifeWritesTheHairstyle: For the sequel, Creator/ReeseWitherspoon came off ''Film/SweetHomeAlabama'' with a bob cut. Feeling that Elle Woods wouldn't cut her hair that short, they had her wear a wig. And in a scene towards the end, [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall Elle complains about one time a hairdresser gave her a bob by mistake.]]
* RecycledTheSeries: [[https://youtu.be/YATP4fHviPE One was attempted]] in 2003 around the time of the sequel, but it didn't get picked up.
* StarMakingRole: Although she had been slowly climbing to prominence with ''{{Film/Pleasantville}}'' and ''{{Film/Election}}'', this was Reese Witherspoon's true breakout role.
* ThrowItIn: A group of frat boys can be seen wrestling on the lawn in the opening credits. These were actual members of a fraternity in the college used for filming, Pasadena's [=CalTech=] campus. They just wandered by the set and were invited to take part.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Creator/CharlizeTheron, Creator/GwynethPaltrow, Creator/AliciaSilverstone, Creator/KatherineHeigl, Creator/ChristinaApplegate, Creator/MillaJovovich, Creator/JenniferLoveHewitt, and Creator/ToriSpelling were all considered for the role of Elle.
** Creator/ChloeSevigny turned down the role of Vivian. [[Music/{{Hole}} Courtney Love]] was apparently a candidate for Paulette, as was Creator/KathyNajimy. Ali Larter was brought in to read for one of Elle's sorority sisters, but loved the role of Brooke and got that part instead.
** The story was originally to take place at the University of Chicago. The university objected to the scene where [[spoiler:Callaghan makes a pass at Elle]] and so filmmakers decided to set it at Harvard instead.
** Elle was supposed to start the movie at either UCLA or USC, but both schools refused to allow the filmmakers to use their names. As a result, Elle starts out as a student of the fictional [[CaliforniaUniversity CULA]].
** The movie originally ended at the conclusion of Brooke's trial. The [[spoiler: scene with Warner and the final graduation]] were added in after test audiences complained that [[spoiler:Elle never got revenge on Warner]]. You can notice that Elle's make-up is slightly different outside the courtroom, as result. Also in the [[spoiler: graduation scene]] you'll note that Elle is paler and Emmett has a deeper tan.
*** There were also multiple endings -- the actresses for Serena and Margot recall an ending with Elle and Vivian sipping drinks on a beach together (implying they had become friends or possibly more), but the screenwriters have stated they never wrote such an ending (this may stem from the original ending as Amanda Brown wrote it, with Vivian going blonde and forming a "Blonde Legal Defense Fund" with Elle). There was at least one ending with Elle kissing Emmett, before they decided to do a graduation scene (for [[WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue the purposes of adding captions with the characters' fates]]).
** [[https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/08/movies/legally-blonde-oral-history.html Per this oral history]], the original script was apparently much dirtier, in the vein of ''Film/AmericanPie'', Paulette wasn't present, and Elle apparently wound up with a professor (it's unclear if this was an early version of Callahan or another character entirely).
** They wanted Series/JudgeJudy to cameo in Elle's Harvard video, but couldn't get her.
** Margot and Serena were only going to be in the opening scene of the sequel, but their roles were expanded as filming went on.
* WriteWhatYouKnow: Author Amanda Brown based the book on her time at law school when she felt she didn't fit in with her peers.

!![[Theatre/LegallyBlonde The musical adaptation]]
* ActingForTwo: Several examples in the Broadway production, which may be recreated in other versions, though amateur ones with large casts may spread the wealth a bit.
** Kyle is also played by the same actor who portrays Grandmaster Chad and, [[SignificantDoubleCasting ironically enough]], Dewey. These parts allow him to be involved in the show before his intro in act two, and the former gives him the chance to rap, which is a nice touch since Kyle (and Dewey) never gets a solo.
** Brooke's actress appears in the first act as Shandi, one of the delta nu sisters. Much like with Kyle, this allows the actor for an important character who only appears in act two to be involved in act one as well.
** Another noticeable one is how Kate, the sorority who helps Elle study during "What You Want" also portrayed Chutney in the climax of act two.
* FilmedStageProduction: The musical was filmed for Creator/{{MTV}}. The premiere included behind-the-scenes cast interviews and onscreen lyrics during the musical numbers so the viewers could sing along.
* RealLifeRelative: Paulette and Kyle's original actors - Orfeh and Andy Karl - are real life husband and wife.
* RomanceOnTheSet: The original Elle and Emmett - Creator/LauraBellBundy and Creator/ChristianBorle - were heavily rumored to have fell in love during the show's run and dated for a while after. Neither party ever came out officially on the matter, but that didn't stop public perception. As of now though, they are not currently together. Interestingly enough, similar rumors popped up with Borle's wife at the time Sutton Foster with Roger Bart while they were starring together in ''Theatre/YoungFrankenstein''. Much like Borle and Bell Bundy, neither party ever made matters official, and they're not currently together, but there were heavy rumors circulating the whole situation.
