Context Trivia / Kesha

Go To

* CareerResurrection: A combination of a heated lawsuit between her and former producer Dr. Luke, the mixed reception of ''Warrior'', the controversy surrounding its lead single "Die Young" (see Distanced from Current Events), and a psychological breakdown from the stress of these incidents, leading her to check herself into rehab, put a lid on her career between 2012 to 2017. The success of ''Rainbow'' fortunately revived it.
* CreatorBacklash: Kesha is not proud of the drunk party anthems that made her famous, such as "Tik Tok", "Your Love is My Drug" and "Die Young", especially considering she was under the control of a heartless producer that basically abused her. It's no surprise that the album she released after moving on from him [[NewSoundAlbum has a more eclectic and ballady edge, and more introspective, personal lyrics]].
* {{Corpsing}}: She cracks up at the line "Loosey as a goosey" in ''Woman''.
* DistancedFromCurrentEvents:
** "Die Young" was temporarily pulled from radio stations following the Sandy Hook School shooting in December 2012, although the song itself was already at the end of its radio cycle before said events. She herself felt incredibly bad about it.
** The famous opening lyric of "Tik Tok" ("Wake up in the morning feeling like [[Music/SeanCombs P. Diddy]]") suddenly became extremely awkward after he was accused of a wide-reaching range of abuse in November 2023. Kesha's subsequent live performances of the song would replace the line with "feeling just like me".
* ExecutiveMeddling: ''Warrior'' (the entire album) suffered from it.
* HeAlsoDid:
** Many of her songs were co-written by her mother, Pebe Sebert. Way back in 1980, Pebe co-wrote Music/DollyParton's #1 hit "Old Flames Can't Hold a Candle to You".
** She plays Bee-Lzebub, the Lord of Gluttony, in ''WebAnimation/HelluvaBoss''. She also co-wrote a song Bee sings called "Cotton Candy", but [[NonSingingVoice didn't sing it herself]].
* InMemoriam: "We R Who We R", which was a dedication to the gay teen suicides in 2010. Even more poignant in the music video, where she tosses herself off of a skyscraper.
* RealitySubtext: Unreleased "Dancing With The Devil" is about Dr. Luke, her producer. Maybe.
** "Praying" is the culmination of all the alleged abuse she endured under him and all the media haters.
* ScrewedByTheLawyers: The Dr. Luke lawsuit resulted in her [[http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/we-need-to-talk-about-kesha#.tcqkAkax8 being]] "Music/{{JoJo}}'d", being unable to record music for quite some time, though she (and [=JoJo=] too) would later finally release albums.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Lipsha, the cancelled collaborative album with Music/TheFlamingLips.
** Warrior was gonna be more rock then it was and Die Young was altered between recording and release.
