* CastTheExpert: Christian Bujeau, who plays the master-at-arms, is an actual expert in medieval fencing.
* TheCharacterDiedWithHim: Attila the Hun only appeared twice in the show, despite the original plan, because of his actor Lan Truong's death.
* {{Defictionalization}}: The "Owl's Ass" game was defictionalized by the fans, with a truckload of rules whose names where inspired by the various games mentioned in the series, which despite being intentionally very complex stay perfectly playable. A full list of the rules can be found [[https://fr.wikibooks.org/wiki/Bo%C3%AEte_%C3%A0_jeux/Le_cul_de_chouette here]].
* DescendedCreator: Creator/AlexandreAstier, who plays Arthur, is also the showrunner.
* FollowTheLeader:
** The series' success inspired lots of copies and parodies, notably in advertising. A good summary in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY9Y6pRFFeE this video]] (in French).
** A series very similar in term of looks is 2015's ''[[https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4119154/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Peplum]]'', which is set in AncientRome.
** Also in 2015, ''Series/LaPetiteHistoireDeFrance'' ("The Little History of France"), which puts various characters through similar comedic situations this time throughout French history (chiefly TheMiddleAges, TheCavalierYears, UsefulNotes/TheFrenchRevolution and, more recently, [[AncientRome Roman Gaul]]). That one is still ongoing.
* IronyAsSheIsCast: Not about the skills, but about the religion; the Witch Hunter, the most repressive, openly catholic character on the show is played by Jewish French comedian/actor Élie Semoun.
* ParodyAssistance: A couple of minor ''Kaamelott'' actors play roles in the fan web-series ''WebVideo/{{Broceliande}}'', notably Guillaume Briat (the Burgund King) and Bô Gaultier de Kermoal (Attila's bodyguard), although they don't reprise their roles from the main series.
* RealLifeRelative:
** Arthur's in-laws are played by Alexandre Astier's real parents Creator/LionnelAstier and Joëlle Sevilla, Arthur's brother-in-law by his half-brother, and Arthur's mother by his real-life stepmother (the mother of Gauvain's actor). All of them have a theater background. An interview with Joëlle Sevilla acknowledges how awkward it would have been to have been cast as Arthur's mother.
** Astier has also cast his children and his wife (who is otherwise a costumer for the series) in minor roles. His three eldest (Jeanne, Arianne and Neil) play larger parts in the movie as Mehgan, Mehben and a teenage Arthur.
** Merlin and Nathair (the spy) are played respectively by Jacques Chambon and Luc Chambon, who are brothers.
** Christian Bujeau's son is an extra in the master-at-arms' classes.
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: On two occasions.
** The episode "Always" shows Arthur, Léodagan, Lancelot, and Calogrenant receiving a message stating that Perceval is dead, with the aftermath of that news. In the end it appears that he [[NotQuiteDead wasn't quite dead]]. That episode was written after an April 1[[superscript:st]], when a journalist wrote an article announcing the death of Franck Pitiot (the actor who plays Perceval). Turns out, the journalist took for granted an Internet April's Fool.
** The episode "Au bonheur des dames" shows for the first time Bohort's wife, Berlewen. Alexandre Astier created the character after reading in some newspapers that Bohort was "Kaamelott's crypto-gay", because he didn't want anyone to "write the show for him".
** Also, there is a very rare example of subversion of this trope (which could also qualify as a RealLife SmarterThanYouLook): Kadoc, a character so stupid that he would be considered mentally deficient today, is played by Brice Fournier, a man who, before becoming actor, achieved a "classe préparatoire HEC" (a two-years preparatory class for entrance to HEC, a "Grande École" specialized in business), a diploma in the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce of Lyon, a BA Management&Marketing in the University of Canterbury, a MBA in the Fordham Business School of New York, and a diploma in the Gemological Institute of America. Oh, and he opened his own restaurant in a wealthy and trendy neighborhood of Paris, too.
* SeparatedAtBirthCasting: Ariane (Mehben) and Jeanne (Mehgan) Astier are ridiculously believable as the daughters of Jean-Christophe Hembert (Karadoc) and Caroline Ferrus (Mevanwi), despite being the real-life children of Alexandre Astier (Arthur).
* StuntCasting: A number of famous French comedians and actors have had cameos on the show, including Lorànt Deutsch, Élie Semoun, Creator/ChristianClavier, Creator/AlainChabat, Guy Bedos, etc.
* YouLookFamiliar: The direct-to-video pilot episodes show a few casting swaps before the series proper:
** Simon Astier was initially a mere servant and cook's helper before taking the role of Yvain.
** Audrey Fleurot started off as Angharad before becoming the Lady of the Lake.
