* AccidentallyCorrectWriting: [[ArtisticLicenseReligion While the show incorrectly conflates Yin with being light and Yang being dark]] when it's the opposite, its portrayal of Yin being passive and Yang being aggressive does correctly fit with the words' associations.
* ActingForTwo:
** James Sie voices Jackie, Chow, and Shendu. Made more interesting when [[DemonicPossession Shendu possesses Jackie]] in "Demon World (Part 1)".
** Creator/ClancyBrown voices Captain Black, Ratso, and Super Moose.
** Xiao Fung and Tso Lan are both voiced by the late Glenn Shadix (who passed away from a head wound from falling in 2010).
** Po Kong and Bai Tza are both voiced by Creator/MonaMarshall.
* ActorExistenceLimbo: After already [[TheOtherDarrin being replaced]] once, Valmont is reduced to a pair of nonspeaking cameos in season five.
* AwesomeDearBoy: Jackie's inspiration for this series came from his love of watching cartoons growing up.
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer:
** [[https://scdn.nflximg.net/ipl/91738/cfa6a975e69f6e42f67ffa45d4f60ae3370cfdd7.jpg The series' Netflix profile picture]] made Gnomekop, a one-off villain for a single episode, out to be the BigBad.
** Some sources have claimed that Stacie Chan, Jade's voice actress, is Jackie Chan's real life niece. Stacie is not related to Jackie Chan despite the shared surname.
* TheDanza: Stacie Chan as Jade Chan.
* DuelingWorks: The second and third seasons of ''JCA'' were aired alongside ''WesternAnimation/TheMummyTheAnimatedSeries''. ''JCA'' managed to get a few more seasons in than ''The Mummy'', which was put in stasis for 5 years after two seasons.
* FakeNationality:
** Uncle, who is Chinese, is voiced by Japanese actor Creator/SabShimono.
** The Japanese Tohru is voiced by African-American actor Noah Nelson.
* IronyAsSheIsCast: Uncle's ignorance of the Oni and the Japanese culture in season four is an example of this due to Uncle's voice actor, Sab Shimono, being Japanese.
* NoExportForYou: The [=PS2=] game never got released in America, only in Europe.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** When Hak Foo originally debuted in the first season episode "The Dog & Piggy Show", he was voiced by Creator/{{Jim Cummings|1952}}. After he became a regular, starting with season 2, Creator/JohnDiMaggio took over the role. In "Deja Vu", when Jackie relives the events of Hak's debut episode [[FlashbackWithTheOtherDarrin DiMaggio still voices the character]].
** Likewise, Creator/JulianSands voiced Valmont, but only for seasons 1 and 2. Creator/AndrewAbleson voiced his handful of appearances in seasons 3 and 4.
** The Monkey King was voiced by Bill Tanzer in his first appearance and Creator/BillyWest in his second.
** After originally being voiced by Creator/CoreyBurton, all other appearances by Xiao Fung have him voiced by Glenn Shadix, who also voiced Tso Lan (Burton was actually never credited as Xiao Fung in any of the episodes where that character appears).
** Jade's future adult self in "J2: Rise of the Dragons" is voiced by Creator/LucyLiu. Her next appearance in "J2: Revisited" has her voiced by Jade's regular actress Stacie Chan.
* OutOfOrder: Three episodes in season 2 officially take place before the season 1 finale, all feature Tohru still working with the Dark Hand and one is a direct prequel to Viper's debut. Notably the actual MythArc doesn't get going for a few episodes in and "Demon World", a major two-part event, resolves the MythArc in the ''middle'' of the season. The rest of the season is devoted mostly to standalones, but given the structure of the season they may or may not take place between the end of season 1 and the MythArc of season 2. The later three seasons don't have this issue, as season 2 had the most episodes total and there is less {{filler}} in the MythArc.
* PlayingAgainstType: Creator/ClancyBrown, normally a villain actor, playing a "good guy" in Captain Black and Super Moose. They're only several of these types of roles he's done, with Sergeant Zim from ''Film/StarshipTroopers'' (which also involved Sony/Tristar and is technically another military role), Raiden [[note]] which is a ShockAndAwe character; ironically, Tchang Zu's voice sounds more like Clancy Brown than Creator/FrankWelker, who was never credited in the end-of-episode credits for the role; also ironically, one of Brown's co-stars from ''Starship Troopers'', Creator/CasperVanDien, later appeared in ''WebVideo/MortalKombatLegacy's'' second season [[/note]] from ''WesternAnimation/MortalKombatDefendersOfTheRealm'', and a doctor in ''Film/CowboysAndAliens'' being some of the few other good examples.
* RealLifeRelative: Xu Lin from "The Lotus Temple" is voiced by Ashlie Chan, sister of Jade's voice actress Stacie Chan. (They are of no relation to Jackie Chan however.)
* RecycledScript:
** They even lampshade it. Season 1 had the team looking for the 12 Talismans of Shendu, and Season 2 had them trying to prevent the unsealing of the 8 Demon Sorcerers. Season 3 had the Talismans destroyed, and their powers transfer to their animal namesake (the same magic in a new container), and Season 5 had them looking for the artifacts of the Immortals who imprisoned the Demon Sorcerers (same elemental powers in new containers). Season 4 is the only completely original season with the Oni Masks.
** The entire main story arcs of all five seasons follow [[StrictlyFormula the same basic structure]]: Locate and obtain potentially dangerous (if not apocalyptic) magical powers scattered all around the world, before the bad guys get to them first.
** In "Black and White and Chi All Over", the scene where Drago is trying to recruit new henchmen (with mostly pathetic results) plays out a lot like a gag from "Tough Luck" when Finn was trying to start his own gang.
* ScheduleSlip: ''JCA'' managed to become a small part of DistancedFromCurrentEvents/SeptemberEleventh in a few ways, which affected the demon portal arc with the rest of Shendu's family and one of the real Chan's planned films.
** The airing of the ''JCA'' Season 2 premiere "The Stronger Evil" (along with the rest of the Creator/KidsWB lineup for Fall 2001, which included the American debut of ''Anime/YuGiOh'') were postponed by two weeks due to the [[DistancedFromCurrentEvents/SeptemberEleventh 9/11 terrorist attacks]] from Al-Qaeda, which started UsefulNotes/TheWarOnTerror. This was probably due to a trend of censoring and editing out any images of the now-destroyed World Trade Center; for example the next Season 2 episode "The J-Team", which included a brief shot of the NYC skyline. One of the extra episodes that took place during Season 1, "Through the Rabbit Hole" (the final episode in the Season 2 docket), had already aired the Saturday before the attacks, and the other two Season 1 fillers aired in the two weeks where "The Stronger Evil" and "The J-Team" were supposed to air, followed by the episode "The Mother of all Battles" (and the first episode on the production order that follows the "Demon World" episodes), then the season officially began at the end of the month.
** On a related note, the real Creator/JackieChan was supposed to star in ''Nosebleed'', a movie about a window washer working at the World Trade Center who foils a terrorist plot, which was immediately cancelled for obvious reasons. ''Allegedly'' according to an urban legend, Chan even missed out on attending the planned filming that was supposed to begin on the morning of September 11, 2001.
* StockSoundEffects: Shendu's roars and growls actually come from the legendary T-Rex scene from Creator/StevenSpielberg's classic ''Film/JurassicPark''. The roar became one of the effects from Lucasfilm's Skywalker Sound division.
* WriteWhoYouKnow: According to real-life Jackie, the characters of the show are based on certain people in his life:
** Jade is based on an assortment of Jackie's nieces.
** Uncle is based on Jackie's father and agent.
** Tohru is based on one of Jackie's stunt team members and ''himself''.
* YouSoundFamiliar: Minor villains Origami and Bartholomew Chang are both voiced by Timothy Dang.
