* AwesomeDearBoy: Creator/JoshHartnett didn't audition for the film until he heard Creator/JamieLeeCurtis was involved.
* BreakawayPopHit: "What's This Life For" by {{Music/Creed|Band}} was used in this film, becoming a #1 mainstream rock hit a month later.
* BTeamSequel: Creator/JohnCarpenter was originally considered as a director. But Moustapha Akkad balked when he asked for $10 million as his directing fee - which he believed was compensation for the revenue he'd never received from the original. Supposedly he stayed on as an uncredited producer.
* CreatorBacklash:
** Creator/JamieLeeCurtis felt that the film started out with good intentions, but ultimately ended up being a cash-grab.
** Music/JohnOttman was annoyed that his score was replaced with music from ''Scream'' in post production.
* DawsonCasting: With Jodi Lyn O'Keefe and Creator/JoshHartnett, who were both nineteen.
* DeletedRole: Creator/CharlesSDutton was cast as a detective, but his character was completely removed.
* DeletedScene: A TV cut that aired on FX in 2003 puts in some deleted scenes, while also removing others (such as Jimmy and Sarah's deaths).
** Additional dialogue between Charlie and John, where John says that Molly isn't easy to get close to.
** Will tells Laurie that his father blamed him for his mother cheating when he was younger. This explains why Laurie reveals her real identity later.
* ExecutiveMeddling: Moustapha Akkad wanted Michael Myers to survive so he could produce more ''Halloween'' films. Bob Weinstein however wanted Michael to die. [[spoiler: The ending where Michael is apparently killed but revealed to have switched places with a paramedic in the next film]] was written as a compromise. It was apparently Bob Weinstein's idea to have [[spoiler: Laurie decapitate Michael]].
* FollowTheLeader: Much of the film is heavily influenced by ''Film/{{Scream 1996}}'', which had revived the slasher genre just over a year before this film came out. Dimension Films (who produced both movies), got Kevin Williamson (writer of ''Scream'') on board to produce and write this film. Even it's original musical score from John Ottman was largely scrapped in favor of recycled music cues from Marco Beltrami's score for ''Scream''. Both films largely follow the same formula with an "opening victim," snarky references to other slasher films, cameos, and Michael Myers was even supposed to be a killer-in-disguise in the original script (see below).
* InMemoriam: The credits feature a dedication to "Donald Pleasance" instead of Donald Pleasence.
* MoneyDearBoy: Creator/JamieLeeCurtis had this to say about the film in 2018:
-->''H20'' started out with best intentions, but it ended up being a money gig. The film had some good things in it. It talked about alcoholism and trauma, but I ended up really doing it for the paycheck.
* MutuallyFictional: One of the college students watches ''Film/{{Scream 2}}'', even though the first ''Film/{{Scream|1996}}'' showed ''Film/{{Halloween|1978}}'' being played.
* OrphanedReference:
** The opening credits show a newspaper picture of a pair of bloody scissors - referencing the ending of the fourth film. Originally the fourth, fifth and sixth films were going to be acknowledged in a scene where one of Laurie's students gives a report on 'the Haddonfield murders'. The finished film ended up being a SoftReboot that ignored the previous three movies.
** Michael Myers notably has no burn scars or eye injuries, despite having been in a fire and having his eyes shot out at the end of the second film and his left eye pierced in the original. While it seems like a simple SeriesContinuityError, it was originally a hint to the planned reveal that it wasn't the real Michael, but a copycat killer.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Due to Creator/DonaldPleasence dying shortly after the sixth film, Dr Loomis' vocals are done by a sound-alike actor Creator/TomKane.
** Chris Durand takes over as Michael Myers, after George P. Wilbur played him in the [[Film/HalloweenTheCurseOfMichaelMyers last film released]] and Dick Warlock played him in the [[Film/HalloweenII1981 last film in this timeline]].
* PromotedFanboy: Music/LLCoolJ was a big fan of the franchise.
* RealLifeRelative: Creator/JamieLeeCurtis' mother Creator/JanetLeigh makes a cameo.
* SparedByTheCut:
** Ronnie and Molly were originally supposed to die.
** The TV cut removed Jimmy and Tony's deaths, but also inverted this by excising the scene where Ronnie is revealed to have survived accidentally being shot by Will.
* ThrowItIn: Music/LLCoolJ ad-libbed the line "and comb your hair", inspired by Creator/JoshHartnett's messy hair. According to a documentary about the making of H20, the hair and make up department battled with Hartnett to keep his hair perfectly coiffed only for the actor to put a beanie on over it when they weren’t looking because he disliked seeing teen films where everyone looked "perfect".
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The fourth, fifth and sixth films were originally completely acknowledged; in fact the story of Laurie faking her death and assuming a new identity was written in order to accommodate her apparent death in the fourth film. This was clearer in a scene where a student in Laurie's class would give a report on "the Haddonfield murders" and Jamie's eventual death - and a heart-broken Laurie would excuse herself to throw up in the bathroom. This was cut so they could focus on Laurie's part of the franchise. However there are still nods to the other films - such as a picture of bloody scissors, referencing Rachel's death in the fifth film.
** Creator/JamieLeeCurtis wanted Laurie's life to be in complete shambles at the beginning of the film. Kevin Williamson instead suggested that Laurie have "more to lose".
** Creator/PJSoles, who played Lynda in the [[Film/{{Halloween 1978}} first film]], was the original choice to play Laurie's secretary. The character's name Norma Watson was intended as a ShoutOut to Soles' StarMakingRole in ''Film/{{Carrie 1976}}''. She dithered for a while about whether to take the role and they eventually asked Creator/JanetLeigh after Soles failed to give them an answer.
** The killer's death had multiple original possibilities - including Laurie trapping him in between a retractable gym floor and then stabbing him with a javelin - or being eventually cut in half by a helicopter's rotor blades.
** The killer in this was intended to not be Michael Myers at all, but [[JackTheRipoff a copycat killer]] (and this would be explained in the next film). Ultimately ''Film/HalloweenResurrection'' explained that Myers had switched places with a paramedic last-minute instead.
** The movie Sarah and Molly have in their dorm room would originally have been ''Film/SoIMarriedAnAxeMurderer''. The joke would have been that they were watching a movie starring Creator/MikeMyers.
** The role filled by Nancy Stephens - reprising her part as Marion Whittington (''née'' Chambers) from the first two films - was originally for a new character. It would have been the daughter of Dr Loomis, Rachel, whose house is broken into.
** Likewise a subplot featuring two detectives tracking Michael for Marion's murder was cut from the film. As such they only appear in one scene and are promptly forgotten.
** One draft of the ending had Michael say Laurie's name to her face [[spoiler: moments before she kills him]]. This would've been the very first and possibly ''only'' time we actually hear Michael of the original continuities SuddenlySpeaking in the entire series at least up to that point.
** Another early draft had Ronnie as a woman called Hattie. [[spoiler: She would die, as would Molly, who lives in the finished film]].
** Sarah was originally much bitchier and she would be dating John (who was called Mitch in earlier drafts). It would have been Sarah who gave the report on "The Halloween Murders" mentioned above. Molly was also hopelessly in love with John and would be an [[HollywoodHomely "ugly duckling"]] sort.
** Creator/JamieLeeCurtis and director Steve Miner wanted Creator/MikeMyers to make a cameo appearance as a gag, but he reportedly wanted nothing to do with the film and passed on it. Incidentally, the film being shown in television was originally ''Film/SoIMarriedAnAxeMurderer'', but in the final film it's ''Film/Scream2''.
** Miner wanted Music/JerryGoldsmith to score the film, hoping to go for a Music/BernardHerrmann-esque score, but the studio wanted a more contemporary sound.
* WorkingTitle: ''Halloween 7: The Revenge of Laurie Strode''.
