1* ColbertBump: The games saw a brief surge in popularity thanks to the series being referenced in WebVideo/ScottTheWoz's "The Dark Age of Nintendo" saga, specifically due to Jeb Jab mistaking any game that Scott plays for ''Enter the Gecko''.
2* CompletelyDifferentTitle: What was called ''Gex: Enter the Gecko'' in America was altered into ''[[MarketBasedTitle Gex 3D: Enter the Gecko]]'' for European markets... and then the Japanese release ditched both names entirely for the radically different ''Spin Tail'', [[DubNameChange with Gex himself being renamed to Reno]].
3* FollowTheLeader: ''Enter the Gecko'' was clearly inspired by ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'', with many of the same gameplay elements (a hub world where you enter levels by hopping into a wall; multiple objectives for each level). Thankfully it fared much better than many other ''Mario 64'' copycats from the same era, and it had enough original concepts to stand out (wall climbing; more unorthodox level types; the voice bytes).
4** Also, the original 3DO game was created because Creator/CrystalDynamics wanted "the next Franchise/{{Sonic|TheHedgehog}}" (see below).
5* TheOtherDarrin: Creator/DanaGould voiced Gex in the original game and in both sequels for the US market. However, the British dubs featured Creator/LesliePhillips as his voice actor in ''Enter the Gecko'', and Creator/DannyJohnJules in ''Deep Cover Gecko''.
6* PromotedFanboy: In 2022, animator [=FlippinDingDong=] produced a video presenting itself as a recording of a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0adoiAjyzw "lost" Gex cartoon]] from the 90s. Come 2023, [=FlippinDingDong=] would be hired to animate the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlMJM645abQ official teaser]] for the remaster on modern platforms.
7* ReferencedBy: {{Hyperpop}} act Music/HundredGecs takes their name from Gex, whose likeness appears on their [[Music/HundredGecsEP self-titled EP]].
8* RoleReprise: The 2023 teaser for the remastered trilogy on modern platforms features new lines recorded by Dana Gould, 24 years after he last played the role in ''Deep Cover Gecko'' back in 1999.
9* TroubledProduction: Programmer Gregg Tavares described Gex as a "project from hell", and goes into detail about how hard it was to make the game on [[http://games.greggman.com/game/gex/ his blog]]. The very understaffed development team was inexperienced, overworked to the point of doing 12 to 16 hours a day, understaffed and rushed to finish the game for Christmas. A lot of content was cut due to time and manpower constraints, and lead designer Justin Knorr was fired after hiding an insulting message that included Crystal Dynamics co-founder Madeline Canepa's actual phone number.

11** There were a lot of unused concepts from the first game that were never used for (see above) reasons.
12*** The first game was originally going to be about a Hollywood stunt-gecko who must save his studio from both financial trouble and enemies trying to help shut it down.
13*** Another early premise of the game is Gex living in a gecko village island (referenced in the story in the instruction manual) when a portal opens above them then a swarm of flying demons with pitchforks abducted them all. Gex was left behind under the rubble, and it's up to him to rescue his people. The storyboards from this idea can be found in the games [[HundredPercentCompletion 100% ending]].
14*** Despite having 2 early story ideas, the final story was going to have more focus where Gex saving people who were trapped in the Media Dimension disguised as bosses.
15*** Gex was originally named Gecko X and his early design was more Kermit the Frog-esque with more realistic eyes. He was also designed with a leather jacket with the letters GX on it as seen in the concept art in the games [[HundredPercentCompletion 100% ending]].
16*** Early concepts for Gex was going to have him grab and throw objects and enemies with his tail and use it as a rope to swing.
17*** Rez/Rezull was originally a giant formless blob made of TV Static as seen in the concept art in the games [[HundredPercentCompletion 100% ending]], This is explained in the manual of both ''Gex: Enter the Gecko'' and ''Gex: Deep Cover Gecko'' that the static is the essence of Rez referring it as "Liquid Rez".
18*** Then, after they decided on the current premise, each world was going to have three parts. For example, the first part of the Horror world would be the cemetery, the second part would be a haunted mansion, and the third part would be Mode 2 (a la ''VideoGame/RailChase'' and ''VideoGame/{{Jurassic Park|Arcade}}''). 19*** The first game originally had the sci-fi world be one of the main worlds but it was changed into Planet X. Also, other worlds were planned such as a Western, Beach, Cooking, Sports, but they were cut for time and memory constraints which explains why the hub looked barren and only has 4 stages.
20*** The game has an unused shooting minigame level in the Planet X world.
21*** The game has an unused boss fight for Planet X. The boss level is unbeatable and doing so will not end the level, leaving you stuck.
22** Gex 2 was planned for the Panasonic M2 but due to the failure of the 3DO, it was never released, leading for the game to be released for the Platform/Nintendo64 and Platform/PlayStation.
23*** At a very early point of development, ''Gex 2: Enter the Gecko'' was going to be a 2.5D platformer similar to ''VideoGame/Pandemonium1996''. The idea was scrapped after seeing ''VideoGame/SuperMario64''.
24*** The Brain of Oz from ''Deep Cover Gecko'' was originally intended to be a boss in ''Enter the Gecko''.

29** There were rumored plans for a TV show and a toyline but neither of these things went through. Although [=ReSaurus=] Toys ''did'' released four twin-pack figures, each is a Gex figure with an enemy.
30** Plans for a fourth installment was in the works set for release in 2002 for the [=PlayStation=] 2, [=GameCube=] and (possibly) Xbox but it was scrapped for unknown reasons. Possibly due to the publisher Creator/EidosInteractive going through financial troubles at the time.
31** Plans for a SpinOffspring version called ''Gex Jr.'' were discovered when a prototype for the game [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32jGwQBodoo&lc= was discovered in early 2022]].
