The following are {{Trivia}}l facts relating to Manga/DeadmanWonderland.

* DistancedFromCurrentEvents: The 'Great Tokyo Earthquake' was changed in the anime to the 'Red Hole Event' as a way to not remind anyone of the then-recent [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_T%C5%8Dhoku_earthquake_and_tsunami Tohoku Earthquake]]. The name "Red Hole" is derived from its depiction as a Nuclear Explosion.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Not many people knew about the manga when it came out, and due to poor sales, was canceled after five volumes when Creator/{{Tokyopop}} restructured, which canon-wise is roughly the same time the anime wrapped up. Unfortunate, considering that when the revived ''Creator/{{Toonami}}'' showcased the anime upon its re-launch, interest in the series soared, forcing those wanting to see what happens next to resort to scanlations.
** NetworkToTheRescue: Creator/VizMedia [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-07-07/viz-media-adds-deadman-wonderland-gangsta-manga has picked up the manga]] and has begun publishing new English translations from the beginning as of February 2014. Let the rejoicing begin!
* PlayingAgainstType:
** Creator/LeahClark as the [[ClusterFBomb foul-mouthed]] CuteAndPsycho Minatsuki in the dub.
** Creator/EricVale as Tamaki. While Eric is no stranger to the SmugSnake roles - [[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist Kimblee]] and [[Manga/YuYuHakusho Sakyou]] come to mind - he's still better-known for playing heroic roles, like [[Anime/DragonBallZ Trunks]], [[Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers America]], and [[Manga/OnePiece Sanji]].
* RealSongThemeTune: The opening is a variation of Fade's "Black Hearts and Dollar Signs" called "One Reason".
** Also, the ending theme "Shiny Shiny" by Nirgilis.
* SeriesHiatus: The manga underwent one in 2012, due to the author's pregnancy.
* SleeperHit: The anime adaptation did not do very well in its original Japanese run, and Creator/{{FUNimation}} picked it up for a cheap buck. When it was announced that Creator/AdultSwim would be reviving Creator/{{Toonami}} as an anime-only block for late-night TV on Saturdays, Creator/{{FUNimation}} and Williams Street struck a deal to give ''Deadman Wonderland'' a premiere-only run, airing episodes 1 through 12 as a promotion for the DVD release. While the first week's episodes weren't anything special, by week two the anime's ratings began to '''rival''' those of ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'', with a few episodes breaking a million viewers.
* TroubledProduction: While the anime did get a boost due to the Creator/{{Toonami}} block, it was very clear that things were not going to plan on the Japanese side of things. For starters, the anime was [[https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-07-30/deadman-wonderland-manga-gets-anime-green-lit announced in July of 2009]], yet no information started to come out until ''late February 2011''. On top of that, the director, Koichi Hatsumi, even admitted during an [[https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interview/2011-04-15/interview-deadman-wonderland-director-koichi-hatsumi interview]] that the [[ScheduleSlip 'first episode was not even done']]. '''''Said interview took place a month before the series would premiere.''''' This shows as the animation is of uneven quality, the censorship (and the infamous Dark Rooms) is retained for the home video release, and the Japanese actors themselves seem to give rather [[DullSurprise uneven performances]].
** Early information on the anime series seem to indicate that Azami was initially planned to be adapted, seeing as how the old man from chapter 2 was on one of the [[https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYmYngvHUpWdMTSxEIwvKL2cCbja1Hc8urZCCDLUvIS-6nUnmeQvjYIe0XwwoK6ZQ1Kdu6X5p5I14EyKSrV2ypts6tPfCV2J7bBZaGiOKkvczQsNDRwXeSslp_1ucI5_4J6qxxIm4iiclyWe2sMisOvIMAoBtSxZ10YAY2aNsDs8dg7zbizuoAZzJ6/s1485/02.jpg earliest character sheets]], along with Yoh's informant, Chang. However, for whatever reason, this was scrapped (presumably for time constraints), and the design was reused for another unnamed Deadman, Albatross.
