----
* ActingForTwo: Will Ryan voices all three of the Duck Brothers in their titular episode. Paul Schoeffler and Creator/PeterFernandez [[ManOfAThousandVoices voice most of the supporting cast and minor characters.]]
* AdoredByTheNetwork: Cartoon Network decided the pilot should become its own series, and the show has spanned four entire seasons without a single threat of having it yanked off the air, despite its scary nature. The series was rerun on Cartoon Network for 13 years, up to 2015, always finding a way back on the schedule, it is even featured on Cartoon Network's website and even its app. It is also one of the only classic Cartoon Network shows to receive a complete series boxset. In October 2022, reruns aired on weekday nights as part of the ''Scoobtober'' block.
* ApprovalOfGod: John Dilworth doesn't deny a single one of the theories made about the show (as he declared [[http://mouse.latercera.com/john-dilworth-creador-coraje-el-perro-cobarde/ in this interview (in Spanish)]]), as he wants to leave it just as open to interpretation as any other work of art.
-->'''Interviewer:''' There's a theory around the Internet saying that no one of the monsters shown in the series are real, and that everything is part of the doggy vision of Courage, what's your opinion on that?\
'''John Dilworth:''' I accept all that theories created online. I encourage this thoughts, it's part of growing up... like the seeds are planted and they grow the way they want. If you want to believe that all the farm visitors represent different aspects of the mind, you are not wrong. I enjoy the multiple theories about the symbols and the meaning of the series, these things only contribute to his tomorrow's promise.
* ChannelHop: The show aired on Creator/CartoonNetwork during its original run, but in 2023 Creator/AdultSwim started airing reruns as part of its "Checkered Past" block. While technically the same channel, both are considered different for ratings purposes (as they have wildly different target age demographics).
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer:
** Several sources have claimed that Mad Dog from the episode "The Mask" was voiced by Creator/JeffBennett and that the Cruel Veterinarian from "Remembrance of Courage Past" was voiced by Creator/DeeBradleyBaker even though neither voice actor was credited in the end credits to Season 4 and neither character sounded like anyone the respective actor was known to voice.
** It's a common misconception that Creator/TonyJay voiced Jeeves Weevil in the episode "Evil Weevil". While Jeeves Weevil does have the familiar-sounding baritone and British accent, he was actually voiced by Paul Schoeffler.
* DescendedCreator:
** John Dilworth provides the growls for the Weremole, the voice of King Ramses and Velvet Vic, and occasionally appears on the Bagge's TV as the dancing man.
** One of the show's animators, Tim Chi Ly, provides the voice of Di Lung.
* DubNameChange: In the Swedish dub Muriel's and Eustace's names are changed to Märta & [[AlliterativeName Hjalmar Hösson]] because the original names would not sound rustic and old fashioned to Swedish audiences. Courage does have a cognate in Swedish, Kurage, so the translator simply used that. Translators also chose to give the show a [[PunnyName punny name]] by translating "the cowardly dog" as "den hariga hunden", which literary means "the hare-like hound". "Harig" is used in Swedish to denote cowardice in a neurotic sense.
* ExecutiveMeddling: The reason behind Courage's limited speech and constant babbling and screaming after the first season. Unlike some examples, [[Administrivia/TropesAreTools this actually wasn't a detriment to the show creatively]]; [[https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/33s9p6/im_john_dilworth_creator_of_courage_the_cowardly/cqnyizh?context=3 John R. Dilworth and the production crew preferred the change.]]
* HeyItsThatSound: A number of stock music stings used in the show happened to turn up in [[VideoGame/HalfLife Half-Life's]] soundtrack, most notably "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLZWv7DsvxE Jungle Drums]]", a boss battle that uses King Ramses' {{leitmotif}}.
* InMemoriam:
** The episode "The Sand Whale Strikes" ends with a dedication to John R. Dilworth's older brother Jim P. Dilworth, who died of cancer the year the episode first aired. Its sister episode "The House of Discontent" features audio recordings made by Jim playing over the radio.
** The voice actors section of the end credits to season four contains the message "In memory of Billie Lou Watt". Billie Lou Watt voiced Eustace's mother and passed away shortly after the third season episode "Scuba Scuba Doo" (the last episode featuring Eustace's mother) finished production.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: The pilot, ''WesternAnimation/TheChickenFromOuterSpace'', partly plays this straight and partly averts it. It's not on the Season 1 DVD, but John R Dilworth sells it through his online store, and it's easily found on Website/YouTube. It is also featured on the VHS release of ''WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooAndTheWitchsGhost''.
* OneBookAuthor: Muriel is Thea White's only voice-acting role.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Courage's only line of dialogue in ''The Chicken from Outer Space'', "This shouldn't happen to a dog", was voiced by Howard Hoffman. For the series proper, he was replaced by Marty Grabstein. (Also applies to Muriel and Eustace, whose vocalizations were also supplied by Hoffman; he was replaced by Thea White and Lionel Wilson, respectively.)
** Lionel Wilson was replaced by Arthur Anderson as the voice of Eustace in the middle of the third season after the former retired; despite this, audio of Wilson was still used when Eustace said his more common lines, laughed, or screamed (the difference is very noticeable). In the 2014 special, Anderson was replaced by none other than Creator/WallaceShawn (who [[NotEvenBotheringWithTheAccent didn't even try to impersonate Wilson, using his normal voice instead]]; by comparison, Muriel's voice actress, Thea White, was able to flawlessly recreate her original voice). For Cartoon Network's 20th anniversary promo, Eustace is voiced by Creator/JeffBergman, who reprises the role in the ''Franchise/ScoobyDoo'' crossover film ''WesternAnimation/StraightOuttaNowhereScoobyDooMeetsCourageTheCowardlyDog''. And it's been stated that if the show ever gets brought back, Creator/BrianDoyleMurray will helm the role due to Anderson's passing.
** The Computer was originally voiced by Simon Prebble, but is voiced by Paul Schoeffler in the 2014 ''The Fog of Courage'' special and later by Jeff Bergman in ''Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! meets Courage the Cowardly Dog''.
* PlayingAgainstType:
** Fran Brill is best known as a puppeteer for many innocent and likeable ''Series/SesameStreet'' characters such as Zoe and Prairie Dawn. In "The Quit Club" she voices the cruel Eliza and Elisha Stitch, a pair of conjoined twins who run a cult that lures fellow women to trap in their magic quilt.
** Peter Fernandez (best known as the original voice actor of Speed Racer and Racer X) does Mad Dog and the Cruel Veterinarian.
** In the Swedish dub, the cranky Eustace is played by Per Sandborgh, an actor who is more well known for his rather soft-spoken roles fitting with his rather soft voice and mild manner of speaking. Though it is not [[WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries the first time]] he has found himself playing outside of his usual range, it is certainly one of those furthest from it.
* PopCultureUrbanLegends: When "The Duck Brothers" originally aired, Will Ryan's impersonation of Music/RingoStarr was so flawless, everyone thought it was ''actually him''.[[note]]In an amusing instance of SixDegreesOfKevinBacon, Thea White, the voice of Muriel, is the wife of Andy White, who played drums on "Love Me Do".[[/note]]
* RecycledScript: Season 3's "Curtain of Cruelty" has a similar plot to Season 2's "The Tower of Dr. Zalost", with anger and hostility infecting the Nowhere townspeople instead of sadness and depression.
* SameVoiceTheirEntireLife: In "Remembrance of Courage Past", baby Courage doesn't speak, but his wails and screams sound just like his present-day adult self.
* ScrewedByTheMerchandise: One of the reasons why it was cancelled was because it was hard to market a pink (or light purple) dog at boys.
* ShrugOfGod: John Dilworth has chosen not to clarify whether Kitty and Bunny are a couple or just friends, preferring to keep it open to interpretation like everything else regarding the show. Though [[https://mobile.twitter.com/DillyDilworth/status/1133888758296842240 this tweet]] [[WordOfGay seemingly confirms that they are indeed a couple]].
* WordOfGod:
** One of the few oddities John Dilworth willingly explained was the hole in Courage's tooth: it's a symbol that nature is imperfect, and how one can still affirm in life when they know that evil exists.
** Also according to Dilworth, Muriel was interested in another man during her youth, but Eustace, through some unknown dark deed, somehow managed to win her over.
