----
* ActingForTwo:
** Creator/PatrickWarburton voices Buzz ''and'' the [[LittleGreenMen LGMs]].
** Creator/DiedrichBader also does it in "Ancient Evil," when he plays Natron the First and Natron's victim, a veeery unlucky Warp Darkmatter.
** Paul Rugg also does this with two recurring characters, Ed and Cosmo.
* ActorAllusion: Creator/BradGarrett voiced Torque, a BountyHunter who rode in a spacecraft shaped like a motorcycle and after a while could clone himself at will. Those were traits also shared by The Main Man himself, ComicBook/{{Lobo}} -- who also happened to be voiced by Garrett in his Franchise/DCAnimatedUniverse appearances.
* AdoredByTheNetwork: During the fall of 2000 the show premiered new episodes on Creator/{{UPN}}'s ''Disney's One Too'' on weekdays and Sundays as well as the flagship Creator/{{ABC}} ''[[Creator/OneSaturdayMorningAndABCKids One Saturday Morning]]'' block. This meant a new episode premiered on 57 of the 61 days in October and November, including a non-stop one-a-day period from October 8-November 27.
* BannedEpisode:
** "Super Nova", a VerySpecialEpisode that aired exactly twice before being removed from circulation. It used [[RadiationInducedSuperpowers superpowers caused by phasing through radiation]] as metaphor for drugs, complete with ensuing withdrawal.
** "Inside Job" and "Conspiracy," both of which dealt with terrorist themes and featured the same villains, ended up getting dropped from syndication after 9/11. In perhaps one of the most bizarre coincidences, the latter actually aired ''on 9/11 during the attacks'' when UPN launched into wall-to-wall children's programming to provide a safe haven.
* BuryYourArt: Re-runs of this series last aired in 2008, and there are currently no plans to stream it on Creator/DisneyPlus. John Lasseter's hatred of this show is apparently the reason why it started getting such treatment. Pixar [[{{Retcon}} has since considered]] ''WesternAnimation/{{Lightyear}}'' to be the true spinoff.
* ColbertBump: Ironically, given by the movie [[CanonDiscontinuity that was created to replace it]]. Since the announcement of ''WesternAnimation/{{Lightyear}}'', fans of the original series have been singing the praises of the "REAL" Buzz Lightyear movie, and series. This helped to revive interest in both.
* CompilationMovie: 'The Adventure Begins' was released as a straight-to-video "movie" prior to the show's airing, and later aired as three episodes. The DTV versions includes an opening scene with Andy's toys receiving the movie on VHS tape.
* {{Defictionalization}}: In the ''Toy Story'' universe, as commented on by ''Lightyear'' director Angus [=MacLane=], the Buzz Lightyear and Zurg toys seen in the movies were based on this very cartoon.
* DisownedAdaptation: For unexplained reasons, Creator/JohnLasseter is not a fan of the show. Producer/director for the series, Tad Stones, theorized in a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=681&v=e0kBEJjbSZE 2019 interview]] this is because Lasseter's vision for a Buzz cartoon was closer to that of the original ''WesternAnimation/SpaceGhost'' or ''Major Matt Mason''. Essentially, a space adventure story played straight, albeit exaggerated, instead of the outright comedy that ''Star Command'' dipped into.
* ExiledFromContinuity: Per word of Aaron Sparrow, Pixar has barred elements from this series from being used in other ''Franchise/ToyStory'' media (to the point where they're not allowed to even acknowledge the existence of the Buzz Lightyear cartoon in universe), apparently due to John Lasseter's dislike of the series. In spite of this, the "Return of Buzz Lightyear" arc of Boom Studios' ''Toy Story'' comic did feature a Booster toy and had Andy mention XR. Not even Lasseter's departure from Disney at the end of 2018 changed anything, with Pixar developing a new spin-off film called ''WesternAnimation/{{Lightyear}}'' that redoes not-the-toy Buzz's origin story, though the film's director (who also directed the show's CG openings) personally considers the show to be the movie's spinoff.
* HeAlsoDid:
** ''Anime/CrossAnge'' and ''Anime/TweenyWitches'' director Yoshiharu Ashino serves as animation director for the episodes "NOS-4-A2" and "Lost In Time".
** Composer Adam Berry, who scored the show, also wrote music for [[WesternAnimation/KimPossible several]] [[WesternAnimation/AmericanDragonJakeLong other]] [[WesternAnimation/HerculesTheAnimatedSeries popular]] [[WesternAnimation/BigHero6TheSeries series]], including ''WesternAnimation/ThePenguinsOfMadagascar'', for which he won two Emmys.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes:
** Only ''Buzz Lightyear: The Adventure Begins'' is out on VHS and DVD. The rest of the series is unaccounted for, except for ''one'' episode, "The Planet of the Lost," which is on a VHS so rare that it usually goes for up to '''$70''' on eBay (it was included in select Buzz Lightyear toys during the 2003 holiday season). Pretty much every episode is available on Website/YouTube (even the three banned episodes), but most are recordings of Disney Cinemagic airings, meaning most of the episodes are in PAL format and are higher-pitched than they should be (the few NTSC-format episodes on [=YouTube=] come from Disney Channel airings, while the banned episode "Conspiracy" comes from a UPN airing...five days after 9/11, funnily enough)--not to mention many of them have been [[ScrewedByTheLawyers copyright-claimed by Disney]]. John Lasseter's [[OldShame hatred]] of the show could possibly be a reason as to why, even to this day, it has never, and likely never will, see a DVD release.
** The show has also yet to be made available for streaming on Creator/DisneyPlus. Likely again, because of Pixar's seeming desire to bury this series.
** While physical copies aren't hard to come by, the game was never released on the [=PlayStation=] Network in the US, though it was in Europe.
* KidsMealToy: In 2001, UsefulNotes/McDonalds released a set of six spaceship pieces with the show's characters in spinning escape pods. These consisted of Buzz, Mira Nova, Booster, Emperor Zurg, Commander Nebula, and XR.
* TheOtherDarrin
** In ''The Adventure Begins'', Creator/TimAllen reprises the role of Buzz. For the series proper, however, Creator/PatrickWarburton took over.
** As per usual, Woody is voiced by Creator/TomHanks' brother Jim for his DTV cameo. Hamm also got Darrin'd for the first (and to date, only) time, being voiced by Andrew Stanton instead of Creator/JohnRatzenberger.
** Also in ''The Adventure Begins'', Brain Pod #13 was originally voiced by Creator/SeanHayes while Creator/DanCastellaneta voiced him in the episode "Shiv Katall".
** Depending on the episode, XR is voiced either by Creator/LarryMiller or Creator/NeilFlynn.
** While Jessie is only a silent character in ''The Adventure Begins'', the Mexican dub has her making gestures. However, Alma Wilheleme recorded Jessie's gestures instead of IrĂ¡n Castillo.
** In the video game, Creator/JeffBennett replaces Creator/CraigFerguson as the voice for NOS-4-A2, S. Scott Bullock replaces Diedrich Bader as the voice for Warp Darkmatter, Deena Freeman replaces Creator/KerriKenneySilver as the voice for Gravitina, and Bob Amaral replaces Creator/WayneKnight as the voice for Zurg.
* TheOtherMarty: In ''The Adventure Begins'', Buzz was voiced by Warburton to begin with, but for the DTV release, Warburton's lines were redubbed by Allen. When it was re-cut into three regular episodes, Warburton's lines for Buzz were used in order to remain consistent with the rest of the series.
* OutOfOrder: The series was produced in a way that every episode outside of the opening episodes/movie, which was produced near the end of the production run, could be aired in any order.
* PlayingAgainstType:
** Warp is voiced by Creator/DiedrichBader. Yes, [[Series/TheDrewCareyShow that]] Diedrich Bader. While shows such as ''WesternAnimation/TheGrimAdventuresOfBillyAndMandy'' and ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheBraveAndTheBold'' would go on to change this, at the time this was a pretty big case of the trope.
** Adam Carolla was the host of The Man Show and yet Disney cast him as Commander Nebula. Anyone find this strange?
** In one of his rare non-villain roles, Creator/TonyJay voiced the Freud-like therapist Dr. Animus.
* ProductionPosse: Executive producers/writers Mark [=McCorkle=] & Bob Schooley, composer Adam Berry, director Steve Loter, writers Eddie Guzelian, John Behnke, Rob Humphrey, Gary Sperling, Bill Motz & Bob Roth, and actors Nicole Sullivan and Patrick Warburton would all later work together on ''WesternAnimation/KimPossible''.
* RoleReprise: As noted above, Tim Allen reprised his role as Buzz Lightyear in the DTV release of ''The Adventure Begins''. In the FramingDevice animated by Pixar, Creator/WallaceShawn, Creator/RLeeErmey, Joe Ranft, and Jeff Pidgeon reprised their respective roles as Rex, Sarge, Wheezy, and the Aliens (in the movie proper, as well as the series, the Little Green Men were voiced by Patrick Warburton).
* SpecialGuest:
** Creator/RicardoMontalban, Mills Lane, Creator/MarkHamill, Creator/JonFavreau, Nikki Cox, Creator/PhilLaMarr, Creator/CreeSummer, Creator/EricIdle, and Peter [=McNicol=] have all provided guest voices for the show.
** Tim Allen also counts for the PilotMovie (the cover making a relatively big deal about Allen starring).
* TechnologyMarchesOn: In one episode, XR mentions that he has a 2000 gigabyte (2 terabyte) memory. Today, you can affordably get a portable hard drive with that much memory.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** According to a promo at the end of "The Adventure Begins", the game was meant to have a version on the Platform/Nintendo64, but was scrapped, either due to porting problems, or due to the impending release of the Gamecube.
** [[https://twitter.com/bob_schooley/status/1190715828242530304?s=20 Before]] settling on making this show, it was considered doing a series of shorts focusing on various ''Toy Story'' characters, including a "Combat Carl's Action Adventures" short (Combat Carl later being [[RefittedForSequel reused]] for ''WesternAnimation/ToyStoryOfTerror''), a short about the [=LGMs=] called "Little (Green) Men", and a "Woody's Roundup" short.
** [[https://twitter.com/bob_schooley/status/1190716109864857600?s=20 The Galactic President originally had a larger role.]]
** As mentioned above, if what Tad Stones says is true, this show was supposed to be a more serious sci-fi show in a similar vein to ''WesternAnimation/SpaceGhost'' or Major Matt Mason, unlike the final product we got, where it was a more comedic program. Allegedly, this is the reason why Creator/JohnLasseter disowned the show.
* YouLookFamiliar: Creator/WayneKnight, who previously voiced Al in ''WesternAnimation/ToyStory2'', now voices Emperor Zurg here.
