* [[AccidentallyCorrectZoology Accidentally Correct Paleontology]]: At the time the film came out, Brontosaurus was believed to be the same animal as Apatosaurus (though Brontosaurus would continue to be used in popular culture until the early 90s), but it was recently decided that Brontosaurus is different enough from Apatosaurus to count as its own genus and species.
* AcclaimedFlop: Despite positive reviews and [[VindicatedByHistory a reputation nowadays]] as one of Creator/KatharineHepburn's best films and one of the best comedies of its era, at the time it was a BoxOfficeBomb that earned Hepburn [[StarDerailingRole a reputation as "box office poison"]], only making its money back upon its rerelease in the early 1940s.
* ActingForTwo: The same leopard, Nissa, appears as both Baby and the circus leopard.
* ActorInspiredElement: The part where Susan's dress rips at the club was suggested by Creator/CaryGrant. He had got his pants zipper caught in another woman's dress and had to instinctively follow her as a result.
* ActorSharedBackground: Creator/KatharineHepburn was cast because of her New England background and similarities to her character.
* CompletelyDifferentTitle: In Sweden, the film was called "Ingen fara på taket", meaning approximately "No Cause for Alarm"[[note]]Literally "No Danger on the Roof"[[/note]]. In Italy, the movie is named after Hepburn's character, "Susanna!" (Susan!).
* {{Corpsing}}: The two leads would sometimes ad-lib lines and delay the production because they couldn't stop laughing. The scene of David discovering the bone is missing from the box in fact took six hours to finish because of the stars' laughing fits.
* CreatorBacklash: Creator/HowardHawks says he regretted making everyone in the cast crazy, wishing there had been a straight man or two to keep things grounded. Averted with the two stars though, as they loved working on the film.
* FatalMethodActing: Narrowly averted. Creator/KatharineHepburn was standing right in front of the leopard, wearing a skirt lined with little metal pieces to make it swing prettily. She made a sudden turn and the leopard lunged for her back. Only the trainer's whip saved her.
* HeyItsThatPlace: The exterior of the Peabodys' house, which previously had been seen in ''Film/MrDeedsGoesToTown'', was shot at the Columbia Ranch.
* MissingTrailerScene: The trailer is actually made up of a lot of unused takes of existing scenes in the movie.
* NeverWorkWithChildrenOrAnimals: Mostly averted. They ended up using a trained leopard who had been working in films for eight years and, aside from one accident where Katharine Hepburn nearly got clawed, they had few problems with it. Katharine Hepburn wore heavy perfume to keep Nissa calm, and was quite fearless around the animal. Cary Grant however required lots of stand-ins and rear projection effects to appear in the same shot as Nissa. Howard Hawks would later blame the production going behind schedule on having two animals feature prominently (the other being Skippy, who played Aunt Elizabeth's dog George).
* PlayingAgainstType:
** Creator/CaryGrant, known for playing cool and charming guys, plays a mild-mannered, dorky scientist.
** Likewise, Creator/KatharineHepburn, typically cast as a hyper-intelligent, on-the-ball, DefrostingIceQueen sort, as the scatterbrained Susan.
* RealitySubtext: The attitude of the two leads towards the leopard is reflected in their characters. Creator/KatharineHepburn was more fearless around it, while Creator/CaryGrant was wary of it - to the point where doubles and stand-ins had to be used in a lot of scenes.
* ScienceMarchesOn: The clavicle in question comes from a brontosaurus, which, even at the time, was recognized by the scientific community as ''Apatosaurus''.
* StarDerailingRole: Briefly for Creator/KatharineHepburn, who was labelled 'Box Office Poison' after this film. She broke her RKO contract after they only offered her a part in a B-movie. But she quickly rebounded with ''Film/ThePhiladelphiaStory''.
* ThoseTwoActors: The second of four movies to star Creator/KatharineHepburn and Creator/CaryGrant.
* ThrowItIn:
** "I just went GAY all of a sudden!" Note the abrupt cut immediately after, indicating that the cast and crew lost it.
** The gag of George burying the rare dinosaur bone was added late in production, inspired by a comic strip.
** David yelling "quiet!" when everyone is talking was added in, inspired by an incident where Howard Hawks called for silence and Katharine Hepburn was the only one left talking.
* WagTheDirector: Katharine Hepburn had been getting coaching from vaudeville comedian Walter Catlett and was so impressed by his talent that she insisted he play Constable Slocum.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The original script had Baby as a panther, but Howard Hawks couldn't find one that would work. Nissa the leopard had worked in films for eight years, and so Baby was changed to a leopard.
** The original script had some scenes in the middle of the movie where David and Susan declare their love for each other. These were filmed but not included in the final cut of the film.
** The script had an elaborate pie fight; Major Applegate would have an assistant and food taster called Ali (to be played by Mischa Auer). This was dropped from the script, and the character replaced with the gardener Aloysius Gogarty.
** Howard Hawks originally intended the story for Creator/HaroldLloyd. Notably, the glasses that Cary Grant wears in the movie are the same style of glasses that Lloyd was famous for wearing.
** Creator/RonaldColman, Creator/LeslieHoward, Creator/FredricMarch, Creator/RayMilland and Creator/RobertMontgomery were all offered the role of David Huxley.
** Creator/CaroleLombard was briefly considered for the role of Susan Vance.
