Context Trivia / Bridesmaids

Go To

* AbilityOverAppearance: It was originally intended that Creator/ChrisODowd's cop would be American, but everyone was so enamored with O'Dowd's native Irish accent that it was decided that he keep it.
* BillingDisplacement: The posters for the film ran with the bridesmaids theme, depicting all five of them (plus the bride) which was why Creator/ChrisODowd (Officer Rhodes) doesn't appear, despite playing a more important character than Creator/WendiMcLendonCovey (Rita) or Creator/EllieKemper (Becca).
* CastTheRunnerUp:
** Creator/RebelWilson auditioned for Megan before being cast as Brynn.
** Creator/RoseByrne initially also auditioned for Lillian, but later took the opportunity to read Helen. Byrne was eventually chosen as the nemesis because she wasn't a comedian as Creator/PaulFeig feared the character would be "coming out to be too arch if they had a funny woman doing it.
* CreatorBacklash: Kristen Wiig is ''not'' a fan of the famous food poisoning scene. Stating the scene was not in the original script, but was forced in when [[ExecutiveMeddling studio execs sent her a note saying they wanted a scene where the characters "Acted like men."]]
* CreatorCouple: Creator/BenFalcone, who plays Air Marshall Jon, is married to Creator/MelissaMcCarthy (Megan.)
* DeletedRole[=/=]DeletedScene: There was originally a scene where Annie goes on a blind date with a character played by Creator/PaulRudd, who seems perfect until he goes insane when a child ice-skates over his finger.
* FakeAmerican / FakeBrit: Australians Creator/RoseByrne and Creator/RebelWilson play an American and a Brit respectively.
* HeyItsThatPlace: Ted's house's exterior is the same one used as Kelly Taylor's in ''Series/BeverlyHills90210''.
* HideYourPregnancy: Creator/MayaRudolph was pregnant with her third child during the filming of this movie. Most of the clothes she wore had a belt on them to distract from her stomach.
* OrphanedReference: More like an aborted BrickJoke; during Annie's meltdown at the bridal shower, she sarcastically asks if Lilian and Helen are going to ride around Paris on bikes with baguettes in the front baskets. A deleted scene found on the DVD and Blu-ray release shows a mortified Annie watching an online video them doing just that.
* RealitySubtext: This was Creator/JillClayburgh's (Annie's mom) last film, as she was secretly fighting leukemia.
* StarMakingRole:
** Creator/MelissaMcCarthy was primarily a television actress before this movie. Her film career and star status skyrocketed after this and hasn't stopped since.
** Creator/WendiMcLendonCovey was best-known as a supporting player outside of ''Series/Reno911''. Her raised profile from this film led to her getting cast as the lead in ''Series/TheGoldbergs'' and allowed her to work as a full-time actor.[[note]]She'd previously proofread academic papers to support her acting career.[[/note]]
** Creator/RoseByrne gained a lot more attention after appearing in this and broke into increasingly bigger pictures.
* StillbornFranchise: Universal was considering developing a sequel without the involvement of Creator/KristenWiig, when she stated in an interview she and Annie Mumolo weren't planning a sequel and were "writing something else". The rumored sequel would've likely focused on Creator/MelissaMcCarthy's character's wedding in the Bahamas without Wiig's involvement, which she considered "a terrible idea" in an interview.
* TrendKiller: In the 2000s, most romance-themed movies could be split into two camps: (A) Pandering rom-coms occupied by the likes of Creator/JenniferAniston, Creator/KatherineHeigl, Creator/CameronDiaz, and Creator/ReeseWitherspoon playing sassy characters, and (B) weepy, melodramatic movies that copied ''Film/TheNotebook''. ''How Do You Know'' in 2010 and ''Bridesmaids'' in 2011 killed the first type, the former due to going over-budget and bombing, and the latter by featuring a female protagonist thoroughly independent from the romantic male lead, while successfully adapting the Judd Apatow style of raunchy humor and character-focused writing. It did not help matters that a new generation of young actresses had no interest in playing either "ditzy girls" or killjoys and the sexist undertones of rom-coms were emphasized, even by Aniston and particularly Heigl themselves, who had sworn off many of their movies.
* UncreditedRole: Creator/JonHamm chose to go uncredited as he felt his presence on the credits would signify a more serious film, seeing as he, as an actor, [[PlayingAgainstType was not generally recognized for appearing in comedies]].
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Creator/GretaGerwig and Creator/JudyGreer auditioned for unspecific roles.
** Creator/MelissaMcCarthy based her character after Guy Fieri and was able to wear many costume pieces that referenced him, but she wanted to physically transform into him, all the way down to his hair.
* WorkingTitle: ''Maid of Honor''.
