Trivia for the franchise as a whole.
----
* ActingForTwo: In ''Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney'', Kristoph Gavin and Klavier Gavin are both voiced by Ryouji Yamamoto in the Japanese version, and Andrew Alfonso in the English and French version.
** In the Phoenix Wright trilogy, Edgeworth and Godot are both voiced by Kim Pa/Jin Bo (they're the same person) in the Korean and Chinese versions. Mia Fey and Franziska von Karma are both voiced by Lee Misung in the Korean version, while they are both voiced by Han Jia in the Chinese version.
* AscendedFanon: Edgeworth being a [[ClosetGeek secret]] ''Steel Samurai'' fan was originally from a non-canon mini-comic by the character designer. Takumi saw it and felt that it made him "cuter" and humanized him as a character, so he added it.
* BeamMeUpScotty:
** The games' speech bubbles, such as ''Objection!'', are often quoted in all caps, despite the fact that in the games themselves, they're always formatted with standard capitalization. Even Website/TVTropes isn't above this, as can be seen in the Franchise page. It's usually done to emphasize that the characters are shouting these lines at the top of their lungs when other means of emphasis such as bold or italics are either unavailable or impractical.
** Despite being a popular meme, Edgeworth never actually says "You are not a clown. You are the entire circus." [[https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/you-are-not-a-clown-you-are-the-entire-circus/photos It originated]] as a convincing edit in response to a tweet, as the maker thought that would be something Edgeworth would actually say.
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer:
** A reviewer, writing for the [[http://www.filmfestivalrotterdam.com/en/films/gyakuten-saiban/ International Film Festival of Rotterdam]], claims that the ''Ace Attorney'' series is like a "non-digital board game" with "lots of cards". The same reviewer also claims that the game is not very visual. Clearly, the reviewer has not picked up a DS and played through one of the cases.
** The same reviewer also claimed that [[http://www.aaonline.fr/ Ace Attorney Online]] is where one can find "free trial packages", as in "free cases to play that are sponsored by Capcom." This carries the unfortunate implication that the fansite is actively supporting creating knock-off games. This caused the owner of the fansite to make it doubly clear that his site is NOT affiliated with nor sponsored by Capcom. He also made it clear that the website is to help people create fan-made trials, and that it's not ripping-off Capcom.
* DevelopmentHell:
** ''Gyakuten Saiban 5'' was first hinted at in 2007 then lay dormant for nearly five years before we even got a ''logo'' in early 2012. A demo was playable at TGS 2012, and it was finally released in 2013.
** ''Gyakuten Saiban 7'' has also appeared to fallen victim to this. It was first announced to be in development for the Nintendo Switch in 2017… and not a single thing has been heard about it since.
* ExecutiveMeddling: Creator/ShuTakumi wanted to make an entirely new cast in ''Apollo Justice'', but Capcom's higher-ups told him he had to put Phoenix in it. Additionally, [[spoiler:the jurist system being introduced]] was also a requirement due to changes in the Japanese legal system, which caused the hotly debated storyline involving Phoenix to be developed.
* FanCommunityNicknames: Not the ''whole'' fanbase, but content creators who make ''Ace Attorney'' videos, especially fanmade trials, are often referred to as "Objectiontubers".
* FlipFlopOfGod: The gender of Franziska's older sibling who is known to exist via von Karma mentioning having a grandchild in the first game. [[https://forums.court-records.net/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=32093 As explained here]], a manual for ''Justice for All'' says Franziska has an older sister, but in an interview with Tatsuro Iwamoto, one of the game designers, he mentions drawing sketches of Franziska's older ''brother'' for fun (apparently one of them was a rejected sketch for Godot). In both instances the sibling is said to be the parent of von Karma's grandchild so they are not referring to different characters.
* GodDoesNotOwnThisWorld: Series creator Shu Takumi was only in charge of the first three games ("Rise from the Ashes" included). ''Apollo Justice'' only has him credited as the series director (which means that basically he directed that game's actual director), and he's not involved in any main series game after that, though he did get involved in the ''Professor Layton'' crossover and the ''VisualNovel/TheGreatAceAttorney'' games.
* InvisibleAdvertising: ''Dual Destinies'' received a quiet Nintendo eShop release. The whole series seems to qualify- it's relatively obscure in the west, particularly outside of the US.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: The original HD port of the trilogy on iOS (and Android in Japan) has been delisted in favor of a revised port based off the later Trilogy port on consoles, meaning unless you already have it, illegitimate ways are the only way to obtain it. Given the [[PortingDisaster quality of the port though]], this is probably for the best.
* LongRunner: Still going strong since ''Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney'''s original Game Boy Advance release in 2001. Capcom even [[https://www.ace-attorney.com/anniversary/ celebrated the series's]] [[https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/10/capcom-launches-ace-attorney-20th-anniversary-website 20th anniversary in 2021]].

* MultipleLanguagesSameVoiceActor:
** In the original trilogy, Miles Edgeworth is voiced by Seon King in both the English and the French dub.
** Manfred von Karma is voiced by Brandon Gay in both the English and the French dub.
** Franziska von Karma is voiced by Janet Hsu both in both the English and the French dub.
** In ''Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney'', Apollo is voiced by Jean Pierre "JP" Kellams in both the English and the French dub.
** In ''Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney'', Kristoph and Klavier Gavin are voiced by Andrew Alfonso in both the English and the French dub.
** Winston Payne is voiced by David Crislip in both the English and the French dub.
** Both Edgeworth and Godot are voiced by Kim Pa/Jin Bo in the Korean and the Chinese dub.
* NoExportForYou: The series is infamous for it, sometimes taking ''years'' to make international ports (if at all):
** The original GBA versions of the first three games never left Japan.
** ''Trials and Tribulations'' for DS -- Europe got it a year after the US, and Australasia never got it at all. (Australasia did receive later ports of the game though on Wii, iOS and 3DS.)
** ''Gyakuten Kenji 2'' -- released 2011 in Japan, still zero plans to export anywhere despite the major demand for it; only fan-translated versions are available in English.
** ''[[VisualNovel/TheGreatAceAttorney Dai Gyakuten Saiban]]'', as well, was released in 2015, and the only statement made about its localization was that there were "issues preventing it from being localized". It wouldn't be until 2021 that the games would see release outside Japan as ''[[CompilationRerelease The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles]]''.
** Even [[Film/PhoenixWrightAceAttorney the movie]] isn't exempt -- the DVD and Blu-ray was released Q3-2012 for Japan, and Q2-2013 saw subbed releases for only Germany and Australia. To clarify: they made one foreign sub for all of Europe, and still haven't allowed a USA/EU release ''despite already making and releasing a version with English subs.''
* NoPortForYou: The compilation ''Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy HD'' was released for [=iOS=] and Android in Japan, but other countries only got it on [=iOS=] for some reason, despite every subsequent mobile release being available on both platforms in all regions. This was finally rectified in 2022 with a rework of the HD port arriving on Android devices in the west.
* TheOtherDarrin: Most characters from the first four games changed their voice actor starting from ''VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorneyDualDestinies''. They also have different voice actors in the ''VideoGame/ProfessorLaytonVsPhoenixWrightAceAttorney'' spinoff.
** English:
*** Phoenix Wright is voiced by Ben Judd in the original four games, by Sam Riegel starting from ''Dual Destinies'' and by Trevor White in ''Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney ''.
*** Miles Edgeworth is voiced by Seon King in the original trilogy and by Kyle Hebert starting from ''Dual Destinies''.
*** Maya Fey is voiced by Samantha Dakin in ''Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney '' and by Creator/AbbyTrott in ''Spirit of Justice''.
*** Apollo Justice is voiced by JP Kellams in his own game and by Creator/OrionAcaba starting from ''Dual Destinies''.
*** Klavier Gavin is voiced by Andrew Alfonso in ''Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney'' and by Creator/YuriLowenthal starting from ''Dual Destinies''.
** Japanese:
*** Phoenix Wright is voiced by Shu Takumi in the original four games, by Creator/TakayukiKondo starting from ''Dual Destinies'' and by Hiroki Narimiya in ''Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney ''.
*** Miles Edgeworth is voiced by Tatsuro Iwamoto in the original trilogy and by Creator/EijiTakemoto starting from ''Dual Destinies''.
*** Maya Fey is voiced by Mirei Kiritani in ''Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney '' and by Satomi Hanamura in ''Spirit of Justice''.
*** Apollo Justice is voiced by Koutarou Ogiwara in his own game and by Creator/{{KENN}} starting from ''Dual Destinies''.
*** Klavier Gavin is voiced by Ryouji Yamamoto in ''Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney'' and by Creator/ToshiyukiKusuda starting from ''Dual Destinies''.
* PostScriptSeason: ''Everything made after the original trilogy.'' Shu Takumi designed "Bridge to the Turnabout" as a GrandFinale that would give proper closure to Phoenix's story, as he didn't want the series to continue on and become a FranchiseZombie. However, the popularity of the first three games prompted Capcom to make more anyways. Shu Takumi participated in making ''Apollo Justice'', which ended up still including Phoenix against his initial wishes due to ExecutiveMeddling, and later left the "main" series apart from ''VisualNovel/TheGreatAceAttorney''.
* SelfAdaptation: The stage play "Turnabout Parallel World" has some input from Shu Takumi.
* SequelFirst: ''Apollo Justice'' was released before ''Trials and Tribulations'' in Europe, due to complications on the latter's rating.
** As noted in NoExportForYou, several audiences have suffered through this; assuming you're even getting a release, don't expect it any time soon or in the correct order.
* TechnologyMarchesOn: It's pretty frequent to see late 90/early 2000s technology in the original trilogy, such as VHS tapes, black-and-white photos, and Nokia 3000-style cellphones, which matches up with the timeframe they were made in. The trilogy canonically takes place 2016-2019, though most of these items had disappeared by 2010. As a result, the games are TwoDecadesBehind. Afterwards, technology started to slowly evolve in-universe. For example, the Investigations games and Apollo Justice have most pictures in full color as well as flipphones and Blackberry-style phones. VHS tapes seem to have been phased out by the mid-2020s, as any video evidence in Dual Destinies and beyond is presented on a DVD (only old video such as the one for the UR-1 Incident is still on tape). By Spirit of Justice, smartphones and social media clearly exist.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Has its own [[WhatCouldHaveBeen/AceAttorney page]].
* WordOfGod: Janet Hsu, one of the localisation team, released a [[http://www.capcom-unity.com/zeroobjections/blog/2014/10/31/ace-attorney-trilogy---surprising-tidbits-you-never-knew whole lot of information about the Ace Attorney universe]] to celebrate the re-release of the trilogy. Included was some explanation for "Japanifornia": "while "Gyakuten Saiban" takes place in Japan, the Los Angeles that "Ace Attorney" takes place in is an alternate universe where anti-Japanese sentiments and anti-immigrant laws were not enacted, and Japanese culture was allowed to flourish and blend into the local culture in the same manner as other immigrant cultures."
