* In ''WesternAnimation/TheAdventuresOfJimmyNeutronBoyGenius'', Sheen could be insensitive from time to time, but he still cared deeply for his friends and family. ''WesternAnimation/PlanetSheen'' cranks up his selfishness and arrogance while eliminating all of his positive traits.
* ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime'':
** [[Characters/AdventureTimePrincessBubblegum Princess Bubblegum]] was given a few morally ambiguous traits in some of the earlier episodes. She sometimes let her anger get the better of her and would mercilessly pursue those who had wronged her. Some of her science experiments also went wrong, such as producing her extremely screwed up offspring Lemongrab. However, more often than not Bubblegum would show regret when she screwed things up, and work to fix her mistakes. Over the course of season 5, her actions turn from well meaning mistakes into outright atrocities, such as committing genocide on a group of defective robots, sacrificing one of her subjects because she thought he wasn't as valuable as Finn or Jake, throwing Tree Trunks' entire wedding into prison just because Tree Trunks preferred the fake King of Ooo preside over her wedding than her, causing almost the entire conflict of one episode just because she doesn't like people thinking of magic as anything than another kind of science, and in general showing no remorse for hurting people if she believes it's for the greater good. A canon video game also reveals that she trapped and performed painful experiments on the two Lemongrab brothers, when she had previously been shown trying to help them. The only reason she doesn't come across as a villain is because of the nature of these threats, namely evil!Lemongrab and that the fake king intended to make everyone his servants. She does [[TookALevelInKindness mellow out]] after Flame Princess gives a [[WhatTheHellHero serious]] [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech piece]] of her mind.
** Lumpy Space Princess was already a rather selfish character, but early episodes did demonstrate she at least had a heart. In Season 5, she attempts to burn down the Candy Kingdom when she believes her boyfriend Johnny is [[MistakenForCheating cheating on her.]] In the Season 6 episode "Breezy", she [[QuestionableConsent makes Finn make out with her and she may or may not have forced him to take it a step further.]] Thankfully, "Elements" seems to bring her back to her regular (if catty and spoiled) self.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheAmazingWorldOfGumball'':
** In Season 1, Gumball Watterson was almost as much as a CheerfulChild as Darwin. After the first, and especially during the second, he was more acerbic and more of a DeadpanSnarker. Even in the first season, however, he could be rude at times, so it seems it's more of a shift in attitude.
** In the first season, Darwin was more carefree and cheerful, sometimes to a degree where he's more innocent but also more naive than Gumball. In the second season onwards, he's a lot more irritable, [[NotSoAboveItAll no better than Gumball in many situations]], gains the ability to commit random acts of violence and is more of a DeadpanSnarker. Even so, however, if he's still not the ''smartest'' in any given situation, he became more of a [[OnlySaneMan levelheaded voice of reason]] in case something goes wrong, becoming more willing to call out Gumball's actions.
* ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDad''
** [[Characters/AmericanDadRogerSmith Roger Smith]] was a pretty plausible Jerkass to begin with, though (DependingOnTheWriter at least) could occasionally show compassion and restraint in his antics. In later episodes the callousness of his actions and schemes border outright FauxAffablyEvil territory. For example, in "Virtual In-stanity", he [[DisproportionateRetribution/AmericanDad hunted down five frat boys who stiffed him $20]], then killed some more random people just because he's "got the blood lust".
** In contrast, [[Characters/AmericanDadStanSmith Stan Smith's]] own Jerkass tendencies have become more toned down in favor of turning him into a borderline Peter Griffin clone, or at least more [[WellIntentionedExtremist well-intentioned]] as the show has progressed.
** Principal Lewis became quite the Jerkass in recent episodes following his Flanderization; he constantly harasses the students and uses them for his own selfish wants.
** Steve himself basically became a complete brat as a result of his Flanderization during the 8th/9th seasons. It got to the point where the plot for "Morning Mimosa" was about him going "Fuck you!" to ''his own mother'' with absolutely zero qualms whatsoever.
** Speaking of Francine, much like how her husband turned into a Peter Griffin clone in the later seasons, she herself became a Lois clone due to this trope (especially in the post-FOX run). It's worth noting that [[DependingOnTheWriter her jerkiness tends to vary depending on the episode]] likely so that she doesn't come across as UnintentionallyUnsympathetic in the episodes where she's the main character (which likely still have moments of her being jerky).
* Norbert of ''WesternAnimation/TheAngryBeavers'', who became steadily more of a self-centered asshole as the show continued its run.
* When ''WesternAnimation/AnimalMechanicals'' was retooled into ''Animal Mechanicals NEW'' in 2019, all of the Mechanicals became noticeably meaner to each other, with Rex, Mouse, and Sasquatch becoming more selfish, and Komodo becoming bossier. Unicorn, previously TheHeart of the Mechanicals, took the biggest level of all, becoming much more callous, self-centered, and rude.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Arcane}}'': PlayedForDrama, as initially Jayce is genuinely 100% idealistic if slightly vain at the start of the series [[spoiler:... but after being abruptly made a councilor to defend the future of [[{{Magitek}} Hextech]]; with a combination of stress from frustrations over Piltover's tensions with [[WretchedHive Zaun]], being [[SleazyPolitician persuaded to play ball]] with the corrupt Council, and finally Viktor's impending death and Heimerdinger's stubborn refusal to aid in saving his life [[DoesNotLikeMagic due of his fear of magic]]; Jayce significantly sours as a person, becoming closer to the {{Jerkass}} he is in the present as he feels they need a leader willing to look to the future, rather than trapped in the past.]]
* ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'':
** The Earth King in ''The Promise'' Trilogy. Instead of listening to Aang telling him to at least talk to Zuko about why he quit the Harmony Restoration Movement, he declares war instead.
** Lin from SequelSeries ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'' was never the nicest person throughout the past two seasons, but in "The Metal Clan", she ''really'' acts ugly towards her half-sister, Suyin. It's also reached a boiling point when she makes her niece Opal cry by yelling at her to leave her alone. Korra [[WhatTheHellHero snaps at her for this]], saying that she'll always be a lonely old woman who would never change. Note that the Jerkassery - again - is largely justified: there's a great deal of bad blood between the sisters, and being in Suyin's city makes Lin supremely uncomfortable. Ultimately, though, a combination of acupuncture therapy, reliving old memories and a cathartic confrontation with Suyin lead to Lin taking her level in kindness, reconciling the two.
* The ''WesternAnimation/BackToTheFuture'' animated series gives [[ActionSurvivor Marty]] [[GuileHero McFly]] this treatment.
* Charmcaster in ''WesternAnimation/{{Ben 10}}'' used to treat her golems (or whatever they were) like they were pets. In ''WesternAnimation/Ben10AlienForce'', she can't go a few minutes without insulting the giant ones she has now for everything they do. Also, in the original series, while a troublemaking bitch, she wasn't murderous or out to take over the world. In ''Alien Force'', she does try to conquer the world, and expresses a gleeful desire to kill Gwen. Then, after a brief HeelFaceTurn in ''Ultimate Alien'', Charmcaster goes [[FaceHeelTurn right back to being power hungry]] up until "Third Time's the Charm" in ''Omniverse'' where Ben as Kickin' Hawk defeats her, after which her final appearance, "The Most Dangerous Game Show", has her joining with a bunch of other female characters in [[PetTheDog helping Ben out.]] [[HazyFeelTurn It's hard to tell just where Charmcaster stands, really.]]
** [[Characters/Ben10BenTennyson Ben Tennyson]] himself takes a massive level in Jerkass in the third season of ''Alien Force''.
*** In ''[[WesternAnimation/Ben10Omniverse Omniverse]]'', this got even worse.
** And let's not forget about Gwen, who, during the first seasons of ''Alien Force'', was portrayed as a more calm and responsible person who was less of a DeadpanSnarker, but sometimes prone to {{Tsundere}} outbursts. By the third season, she was more short-tempered and snarky again.
** Speaking of third season, after being mutated for second time, Kevin is more of a jerk than usual, especially in "In Charm's Way".
*** And he gets worse in ''Omniverse'', with ''two'' episodes of him dodging responsibility for past misdeeds, acting like a jerk to Ben and Rook, and even pushing his deeds' consequences on them. Even ''Argit'' actually thinks he's out of line.
** And both Julie ''and'' Elena Validus as a result of becoming an example of DerailingLoveInterests in ''[[WesternAnimation/Ben10UltimateAlien Ultimate Alien]]''.
** Also Mr. Baumann, when he first appeared in ''Ultimate Alien'', he was nice and friendly towards Ben and company. By ''Omniverse'', he seems much more hostile towards him, justified by Ben frequently inadvertently causing the destruction of his store.
* On ''WesternAnimation/BrandyAndMrWhiskers'', Mr. Whiskers has his fair share of {{Jerkass}} moments, but the one where he really crosses the line is making Ed cry in the episode "Monster of My Skin" after Ed tries to cure his acne:
-->'''Mr. Whiskers:''' I don't want any more of your stupid food! I don't want any more of your worthless cures! If you can't help me, I don't ever wanna see your ugly face ever again. I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU!
-->'''Ed:''' [[TheWoobie Gee, if that's the way you *sniff* I mean if uh, all right then....]]
* Eustace from ''WesternAnimation/CourageTheCowardlyDog'' definitely fits this trope. He has never been nice to Courage the slightest bit no matter what the dog does for him. The episode "Ball of Revenge" is where Eustace was at his worse. He finally attempted to get rid of Courage by hiring the dog's past foes to ''kill him'', made more heinous by the fact that [[UngratefulBastard Courage had actually gone through a lot of trouble to save him in many other episodes]].
* Talia undergoes this in the WesternAnimation/DCUniverseAnimatedOriginalMovies. In ''WesternAnimation/SonOfBatman'', Talia risked her life to save her son, Damian, literally taking a bullet for him. In her next appearance, ''WesternAnimation/BatmanBadBlood'', she tries to brainwash Damian, kills a clone of Damian that was fanatically loyal to her, then later activley tries to kill Damian, and glibly tells Bruce, who she has brainwashed, that they can "make another."
* ''WesternAnimation/EdEddNEddy''
** Eddy went from an UnluckyEverydude to a JerkWithAHeartOfGold to a greedy bastard due to {{Flanderization}}. Reversed in TheMovie, where we find out that Eddy was just acting that way because [[spoiler:he idolized his older brother, who we find out is a far bigger bastard]].
** The kids did this too, going from simply disliking the Eds to sometimes going after them without provocation. "X Marks the Ed", "Your Ed Here", and "Smile For The Ed" were the pinnacles of this.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents'':
** Cosmo was originally a KindheartedSimpleton, but from season 4 onwards, he started growing more and more reckless to the point where he's portrayed to not care about the lives of people around him.
** Icky Vicky: Originally just a mean, bossy babysitter, she became a sadistic, maniacal human monster not above threatening her own parents to keep her [[BeneathTheMask true colors]] a secret.
** Timmy's parents started out as overworked and inattentive, but it was still clear they loved Timmy. As the series went on, both of them ended up becoming [[ParentalNeglect neglectful]] and AbusiveParents who are implied to resent their son and will gladly take advantage of him on occasion.
** Timmy himself has become more of a heartless asswipe each season. But thankfully not as awful as Norm the Genie's clone Timmy, whose extreme jerkiness causes his fairy godparents to quit their jobs. Timmy [[CharacterRerailment did seem to get better in seasons 8 and 9]]...only to revert to being a {{Jerkass}} (perhaps even worse than before) in season 10, which is an unfortunate result of living in a CrapsackWorld in-universe and SeasonalRot out-of-universe.
** One of Timmy's love interests, [[AlphaBitch Trixie Tang]], showed signs of this after the first two seasons, the most notable examples being "Movie Magic", "Class Clown" and "Just the Two of Us!".
* It's safe to say that {{Flanderization}} has engulfed the cast of ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy'' so intensely that it's easier to list characters who haven't undergone this trope to some extent. The best instance of an inversion is [[Characters/FamilyGuyStewieGriffin Stewie Griffin]], who TookALevelInKindness to the point where he's now the most likable character on the show. (Relatively speaking, of course; he used to be ''evil'', and nowadays he's just an asshole.)
** [[Characters/FamilyGuyPeterGriffin Peter Griffin]], after his show was UnCanceled, goes from being a basically-good JerkWithAHeartOfGold to more of a full-on, often malevolent {{Jerkass}}.
** His son, Chris Griffin, seems to be taking a level in Jerkass as of late.
** Cleveland has had some Jerkass moments since he got [[WesternAnimation/TheClevelandShow his own show]].
** Connie went from being the standard AlphaBitch to a downright bitch, which was best demonstrated when she made fun of Meg shortly after the latter returned to school from being in prison for three months (to compensate [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown she pays for this]], and a lot of her Jerkass moments, to dire extremes).
** Lois, originally a MamaBear and arguably the most CloserToEarth character in the show has gradually became what is basically a female variant of Peter.
** Even [[Characters/FamilyGuyBrianGriffin Brian Griffin]] followed this route to the point where he got [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech told off]] by ''[[TheHedonist Quagmire]]'', of all people.
*** Brian reached a high level of jerkiness in the episode "Brian Writes A Bestseller". After Stewie helps Brian write a crappy novel for the sake of popularity and sales, Brain's ego becomes so inflated that every minor thing that goes wrong or bothers him (being seated next to an Asian person on a plane, being seated in the back of a restaurant, etc) causes him to get pissed off and blame Stewie for it. Brian angrily tries to justify his behavior by saying he deserves the best of everything because he wrote a bestseller. After Brian took a huge crash and burn on live television when it was revealed he is a sham, Brian, during his apology, ''still'' blamed Stewie for his failures. Stewie just gives up pointing out the contradiction and says "This is as good as it's going to get, isn't it?"
*** On a more consistent basis, Brian has become increasingly [[StrawHypocrite shallow]], [[ItsAllAboutMe self-centered]] and [[AttentionWhore attention obsessed]] since Season 6, likely to deconstruct his AuthorAvatar status. When it reaches a point it seems he is being unfairly abusive to ''[[EnfantTerrible Stewie]]'' of all people, you know he's [[EvilerThanThou a pretty exaggerated asshole]].
*** He also suffers from this in Seasons 12 and 13, with notable examples being him giving Chris and Stewie herpes (which is many people's MoralEventHorizon for him), being an UngratefulBastard to Quagmire despite getting help by him with his teeth (though due to the below, this can be justified), and [[AbusiveParents being a bad father to his son Dylan]]. Were it not for the fact that his revival came about due to Stewie altering the timeline so that he never died rather than literally bringing him back from the dead, it could be easy to think he CameBackWrong.
** [[Characters/FamilyGuyGlennQuagmire Glenn Quagmire]] reached this level by his [[SitcomArchnemesis relationship with Brian]], such as his [[{{Hypocrite}} hypocritical]] rant against Brian in "Jerome is the New Black" (as said above), [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown beating the tar out of him]] after he [[spoiler:unknowingly had sex with his just-transitioned dad]] in "Quagmire's Dad", giving Brian another rant for mistaking his cancer-ridden niece for a boy in "Road to the North Pole", and [[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk faking an acceptance of his apology and running him over]] in "Tiegs for Two".
* ''WesternAnimation/FostersHomeForImaginaryFriends'':
** Bloo was shown as the perfect ImaginaryFriend in the [[WesternAnimation/HouseOfBloos pilot/TV movie]], but just over the course of the entire series got warped to a self-absorbed jerk who [[WithFriendsLikeThese verbally and/or physically abuses his friends]] OncePerEpisode. [[WMG/FostersHomeForImaginaryFriends It's possible]] that living in an OrphanageOfLove might ironically have something to do with it: He wasn't used to having so much freedom before moving into Foster's, so it apparently inflated his ego.
** Mr. Herriman was just as bad, going from a mere [[BritishStuffiness uptight butler-type figure]] to a virtual tyrant who insists that all is perfect in the house despite numerous instances showing his rules cause far more misery than they should.
** Often, many characters do this for a single episode. "Foster's Goes to Europe" and "I Only Have a Surprise for You" are particularly infamous examples.
* [[Characters/FuturamaBenderBendingRodriguez Bender Bending Rodriguez]] of ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}'' fame has always been a {{Jerkass}} of sorts, and that doesn't even take into account the fact that he's a criminal for numerous cases of thievery alone. Still, he isn't above his PetTheDog moments and can feel guilt for some of his harsher actions, and that doesn't even take into account what [[TrueCompanions Fry and Leela really are to him]]. Later episodes, particularly in the show's UnCanceled era, increased his sociopathic tendencies however, where he goes so far as to commit outright murder and at one point even damns his own son to robot hell, something that disturbs [[EvenEvilHasStandards the Robot Devil]].
* Johnny Canmore from ''WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}}'' is the youngest and most innocent of the Canmore siblings, and the least inclined to take up his family's ancient feud against the Demon and her kind. As the events of "Hunter's Moon" transpire, he becomes a Jerkass and decides to take up the hunt even as his older brother and sister decide to give up on it.
* ''WesternAnimation/HeyArnold'': While not all episodes had this trope affecting them, [[CloudCuckooLander Sid]] and [[CountryMouse Stinky]] often acted ruder and more troublesome towards a number of the other characters in some of the show's later episodes. In one case their heckling gets so relentless that ''Harold''[[note]]who had admittedly [[TookALevelInKindness done this trope's inverse]] by this point[[/note]] calls them out on it.
** An episode in which [[Characters/HeyArnoldArnoldShortman Arnold Shortman]] learns karate after being mugged saw Arnold himself doing this, lashing out physically at even the slightest provocation or just to show off what he could now do. ''[[LovingBully Helga]]'' is horrified by this.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Hilda}}'': the eponymous character notably became a bit jerkish towards her mother during events of Season 2, constantly lying about whereabouts, while she was on life-threatening adventures. The worst moments was in season finale, when Johanna insists on spending evening together, and Hilda coldly tells her it’s not ''her'' fault Johanna sits around all day with no one else to talk to.
* Season 2 of ''WesternAnimation/IronManTheAnimatedSeries'' saw its title hero adopt many of the less-admirable traits the comic Tony Stark had, as he decided to start keeping secrets and even faked his death without telling anyone about it, which caused Force Works to dissolve until the series finale. The "ComicBook/ArmorWars" adaptation had Tony commit many of the same actions he did in the comic version, including getting into fights with other heroes over the suspected use of his tech and shutting down the Vault.
* ''WesternAnimation/JimmyTwoShoes'':
** Dr. Scientist was more-or-less neutral in the first season. However, in "Heads Will Roll" he becomes a full blown villain, tormenting Heloise. This could just be the result of not having a major role before then.
** Jimmy and Beezy too, thanks to {{Flanderization}}. Jimmy's [[TookALevelInDumbass stupidity and obliviousness were upped]], making him more callous (and insane to a lesser extent) [[note]]''Heloise Schmeloise'' is a good example[[/note]], while Beezy's selfish tendencies made him mean and obnoxious to everyone [[note]]''She Loves Me'' has an infamous instance where he casually breaks up with Saffi just to chase the GirlOfTheWeek. It was PlayedForLaughs...[[/note]].
* ''WesternAnimation/KaBlam'': June started out as a prankster with an enormous heart, but season three-ish, she became more of a Jerkass. Season four ended this.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Kaeloo}}'':
** At the beginning of the show, Stumpy starts out as a kind and well meaning but stupid kid. In Season 2, he starts to become slightly meaner, and in season 3 he's almost as much of a jerk as Mr. Cat, and enjoys torturing people for no reason other than his own amusement.
** In season 4 Kaeloo was way more cruel than in the other seasons, especially to Stumpy.
* ''WesternAnimation/KappaMikey'' has the titular character doing this in one episode, ''The Good, the Bad, and the Mikey'', when he ended up discovering that USA hero, Captain Impressive, got canned for being a good two-shoes. He eventually realizes the error of his way when he ended up causing a riot.
* It's very easy to forget that Peggy Hill from ''WesternAnimation/KingOfTheHill'' was actually nice at the beginning of the show. She didn't start showing her egotism until season 3 and wasn't even a jerk about it until season 4, which explains her new backstory in season 9.
* Nani from ''WesternAnimation/LiloAndStitch'' started out as a compassionate older sister with justified anger issues due to the stress of looking for a job to support herself and her younger sister, and [[JerkassHasAPoint does have a point at times to punish Lilo]]. Some episodes of ''[[WesternAnimation/LiloAndStitchTheSeries The Series]]'' portray her a more short-tempered and ruder {{Jerkass}} who grounds Lilo and Stitch for minor reasons, such as "Bonnie and Clyde", [[DisproportionateRetribution where she grounds them for running around the house and burping]], as well as refusing to let them go outside to catch Bonnie and Clyde.
* ''WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes'':
** WesternAnimation/DaffyDuck was introduced as a fun-loving nut, becoming more stable and ambitious by means of CharacterDevelopment, as well as more embittered and obnoxious in personality, often acting as an [[IneffectualSympatheticVillain antagonist]] to WesternAnimation/BugsBunny. His cruelty was taken to extremes with his pairings against 'WesternAnimation/SpeedyGonzales in the [[Creator/DepatieFrelengEnterprises DePatie-Freleng]] era. For instance, in ''WesternAnimation/WellWornDaffy'', Daffy is hellbent on keeping Speedy and a friend from a desperately needed well for no other reason than for pure maliciousness, and then attempts to destroy it for absolutely no reason except to be mean.
** ''WesternAnimation/TheLooneyTunesShow'' had nearly ''everyone'' gear up their jerk levels. And if seeing Bugs being rude was too much of a shock, the fact that Daffy pretty much became a sociopath who sponged off Bugs and did anything short of torture towards his neighbors (especially Porky) made things worse even if they scaled this down a bit during the second season.
* ''WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse2013'' makes WesternAnimation/DonaldDuck, normally a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, a straight-up {{Jerkass}} who will gladly throw his friends under the bus. The most infamous example is "[[Recap/MickeyMouseS2E19BroncoBusted Bronco Busted]]", where he abandons Mickey and Goofy in favor of being pampered by a millionaire, even mocking them as they leave. The shorts in the later seasons, mostly the 2016 holiday special, "Duck The Halls", managed to tone down his obnoxiousness and reverted Donald back to his usual JerkWithAHeartOfGold status.
* ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'':
** "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E19PuttingYourHoofDown Putting Your Hoof Down]]":
*** Angel the Bunny, always a little bit of a brat, makes unreasonable demands regarding his breakfast, and then throws Fluttershy's best effort away for being short one cherry and kicking her out of the house. The closest he comes to any kind of apology is an expression of gratitude after he realises [[IDoNotLikeGreenEggsAndHam he enjoys Fluttershy's cucumber slices]], but then, it was only because of [[DeathGlare the Stare]] that he was willing to try them in the first place. Angel TookALevelInKindness in a later episode, so it kind of evens out.
*** [[Characters/FriendshipIsMagicFluttershy Fluttershy]] herself takes multiple levels in jerkass throughout the episode as a result of self-confidence lessons working out far too well. By the end, she's gone from her usual meek and passive self to a vicious, aggressive person who casually delivers deep personal insults and picks fights over any slight real or imagined.
*** As did the entire population of Ponyville, apparently. In this episode they're a bunch of callous bastards who try and scam Fluttershy, bump her out of lines and yell at her when she protests, and insult her for asking if they'll move their carts so she can pass by. In fact, pretty much everyone in the episode on the receiving end of Fluttershy's jerkassery [[LaserGuidedKarma had it coming]], and she only officially went too far when she unleashed her fury on Pinkie Pie and Rarity which brought them to tears.
** The second season finale, "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E25ACanterlotWeddingPart1 A Canterlot Wedding – Part 1]]", plays with this trope. When "Princess Cadence" shows up, she is apparently an in-universe example, since although Twilight knew her as the best filly-sitter ever, she treats all the wedding preparations and other characters like dirt. [[spoiler:However, it turns out to be a subversion. Twilight only later finds out that the real Princess Cadence, who remains one of the nicest alicorns around, has been imprisoned in the mines beneath Canterlot -- and that {{Jerkass}}!Cadence is actually an impostor.]]
** [[Characters/FriendshipIsMagicRainbowDash Rainbow Dash's]] Level in Jerkass deconstructs this, since it led to several repercussions and Aesops that stuck to her character and led to her having to [[TookALevelInKindness take levels in kindness]] by Season Three.
** In "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS8E4FakeItTilYouMakeIt Fake It 'Til You Make It]]", Fluttershy's multiple salespony personas start off polite and knowledgeable, but gradually become more and more abrasive and condescending as time passes, eventually driving off most of the store's costumers and casually insulting friends and staff.
** The infamous "The Mean 6" gives us another subversion; the Mane Six repeatedly encounter their [[ThePsychoRangers mean clones]] created by Chrysalis, whom they mistake for their real friends and assume they're becoming jerks out of nowhere and ruining their camping trip, resulting in a huge argument once they meet up. Fortunately, Twilight resolves the feud. The subversion is [[DramaticIrony none of them realize their clones are not their real friends,]] [[UnknownRival and they're not even aware of Chrysalis' presence as well.]]
* ''WesternAnimation/TheRaccoons'': {{Downplayed}} with Lisa. The episode "Spring Fever!" establishes her as a fairly friendly teenager who tries to let Bert down gently when he develops a crush on her and writes to him saying she'd still like to be friends after that, but she becomes noticeably more irritable in Season 5, especially with her younger brother Bentley. While this is justified in "Moving In!" as she's [[MovingAngst secretly upset about leaving her old life behind after her family moves to the Evergreen Forest]], this attitude doesn't completely go away and occasionally pops up throughout the season. However, this doesn't stop her from being friendly most of the time.
* Heffer Wolfe became more self-centered and obnoxious beginning in the third season of ''WesternAnimation/RockosModernLife'', even picking up fights with Filburt with little to no provocation.
* ''WesternAnimation/RickAndMorty'': [[Characters/RickAndMortyMortySmith Morty Smith]] begins as a morally upright young man who scolds his grandfather into doing the right things. As he continues to become more and more traumatized by his adventures with Rick, Morty's moral compass gradually erodes and he even starts doing Rick-like behaviors. The fifth season's penultimate episode has Rick recognize this and that it's his own fault, so he gently tells Morty they need to spend time apart so they can each become better people.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:S-Z]]
* A large amount of the cast of ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' have evolved this way as the show has [[DenserAndWackier leaned into zanier]], more satirical, territory. The most infamous case of this occurred with [[Characters/TheSimpsonsHomerSimpson Homer Simpson]]: While he was always selfish and moronic, he initially had some level of goofiness and kindness to offset this. When Mike Scully took over (in season 9) and shifted the show into more of an overt comedy, his selfishness and sociopathy went to [[Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration Q-esque levels]]. When Al Jean took over, he toned down the character into his early-era goofiness, although he reverted to his infamous Scully-era persona after Matt Selman stepped in as co-showrunner.
** This is [[{{Deconstruction}} deconstructed]] in ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsonsMovie'' when Homer's impulsive behavior puts the town in danger (for real) and Marge leaves him. He does learn his lesson and sets things right at the end though.
** Bart Simpson is known for being a {{Jerkass}}, but sometimes his {{Jerkass}}ery reaches HeroicComedicSociopath levels ("[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS2E7BartVsThanksgiving Bart vs. Thanksgiving]]"[[note]]where he deliberately ruins Lisa's centerpiece, although he later runs away out of guilt[[/note]], "[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS8E17MySisterMySitter My Sister, My Sitter]]"[[note]]where he does everything in his power to pester Lisa while she's sitting him, even risking his own life[[/note]], "[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS14E3BartVsLisaVsTheThirdGrade Bart vs. Lisa vs. The Third Grade]]"[[note]]where he turns up the dial just to make sure to give Lisa a nightmare in the grade he was degraded to[[/note]], "[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS18E3PleaseHomerDontHammerEm Please Homer, Don't Hammer 'Em]]"[[note]]where he approaches Skinner's peanut allergy to control him[[/note]], "[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS21E11MillionDollarMaybe Million Dollar Maybe]]"[[note]]where he blackmails Homer for privileges[[/note]], "[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS22E17LoveIsAManyStrangledThing Love is a Many Strangled Thing]]"[[note]]where he takes advantage of Homer and even ''leaves him for dead''[[/note]] and "[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS25E2TreehouseOfHorrorXXIV Dead and Shoulders]]"[[note]]where he tries to kill Lisa so he can have her body to himself[[/note]] being some examples).
** [[HatesTheJobLovesTheLimelight Krusty the Clown]] went from being a slightly weary and cynical old showbiz figure, to a greedy, shameless sellout who doesn't care the slightest if his licensing products are crappy, or even downright dangerous.
** Even normally sane characters, such as Marge and Lisa, act rather mean-spirited or outright unstable at times.
** Milhouse definitely took a level in this, to the point that he once ruined Bart's relationship with the GirlOfTheWeek simply because Bart didn't visit him when he was suspended (although this was because Bart had blamed him for destroying the school, which was his idea). He also tried to manipulate Lisa during the ending of the movie by saying her love interest Colin was dead, his last words were for Milhouse to take care of Lisa and hold his hand. And in "The Color Yellow", he decides to humiliate Lisa by discrediting her ancestor's story.
*** He also tried to rip off Bart in "Bart Sells His Soul"--[[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Bart sold him his soul]] for $5 and Milhouse tried to sell it back for $50, just to rub it in his nose.
** Agnes Skinner started out as a sweet old woman in "The Crepes of Wrath", [[EmbarrassingNickname inadvertently embarrassing Seymour with the nickname "Spanky"]]. She gradually evolved into MyBelovedSmother, then by Season 8 or so, she became a rude {{Jerkass}} and [[AbusiveParents downright abusive towards Seymour]]. It’s possible that the cherry bomb incident in the aforementioned episode had something to do with it.
* Out of all the people in ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'', it's the usually calm and understanding Mr. Mackey who has done this recently, case in point, "Royal Pudding". All he does is scream and cuss at ''[[SadistTeacher kindergarten students]]'' and later, resident DesignatedMonkey Kyle, for screwing up his play on tooth decay, even though the kids didn't mean to do it.
** Throughout most of his Season 15 appearances for that matter, Mr. Mackey has started to reveal more and more darker personal issues, albeit ones he frequently vents out on the school's students. His hoarding problem led him to be violently protective of his belongings, while he and the school faculty became so obsessed with avoiding controversy over school deaths they decided to [[RefugeInAudacity kill Eric Cartman by]] [[ItMakesSenseInContext throwing him under a bus]].
** Even [[Characters/SouthParkKyleBroflovski Kyle Broflovski]] arguably got this. In "Douche and Turd" he almost has ''[[WithFriendsLikeThese Stan]] killed by Puff Daddy'' [[ItsAllAboutMe so he can get his vote for his candidate]] and then gets even madder at him for voting for Cartman's candidate, and "Fatbeard" shows him willing to send Cartman's entire pirate crew (including classmates such as [[ButtMonkey Butters]] and Clyde) to their death in Somalia.
** There's also Gerald Broflovski, Kyle's father. For 9 seasons, he's a decent parent, even though A) he's an AmoralAttorney, and B) he's as clueless as every other adult in town. And then there's the episodes "Smug Alert" and "Major Boobage". In the former, he doesn't care what anybody says or thinks after buying a Hybrid, his own family included. In the latter, he becomes almost as bad as his wife Sheila in TheMovie, bans cats due to their urine being a drug for "cheesing", and accuses Kyle of being a drug hoarder, which he clearly isn't.
*** Gerald becomes even worse in Season 20, when it's revealed that he's the notorious internet troll "skankhunt42". He harasses girls online and photoshops dicks into the mouths of cancer survivors all "[[ItAmusedMe for the lulz]]". After he [[spoiler: accidentally drives a Danish Olympian to commit suicide]], Gerald sinks to new lows to avoid punishment, [[spoiler: including using his own son as a scapegoat for his actions]].
** Randy Marsh started off as a somewhat incompetent but well-meaning parent, and to an extent one of the more rational adult residents. As his role elevated, he slowly evolved into a sociopathic ManChild whose selfish antics his family often have to face the brunt of (especially his son Stan).
*** Season 23 took this up to eleven, where he stops caring about his family at all and accuses them of not caring about him if they express that they hate Tegridy Farms, and becomes a greedy, sociopathic monster who cares only about profits and commits numerous murders and unethical business actions to get more money. At this point, he's comparable to Cartman in terms of evil.
** Towelie, who the beginning Season 23 had initially portrayed as Randy’s more ethical business partner, becomes just as unethical as him and takes sadistic glee in butchering a bunch of cows to stop them from eating the weed at Tegridy Farms.
* ''WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants'':
** [[Characters/SpongeBobSquarePantsMrKrabs Mr. Krabs]], depending on the episode be it the first or the later seasons, varies from a decent, if money-obsessed, businessman, into a horrendous boss who has a MoneyFetish and ([[KarmaHoudiniWarranty almost]]) always [[KarmaHoudini gets away with his crimes]]. By season 12, he's mentioned to bribe the health inspector to avoid failing inspections, and only cares about [=SpongeBob=] because he makes him money.
*** The prime example for a lot of fans, even to the point of being considered his MoralEventHorizon, was "One Coarse Meal", where Mr. Krabs drives Plankton insane for kicks, and when he [[DrivenToSuicide tries to get run over by a bus]], Krabs laughs and erases a picture of him, saying he's a mess when confronted by [=SpongeBob=].
** [[Characters/SpongeBobSquarePantsSquidwardTentacles Squidward Tentacles]] changed from a {{Deadpan Snark|er}}ing JerkWithAHeartOfGold who simply disliked [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick's childishness into a full-on {{Jerkass}} more openly hostile towards them, often without provocation. Possibly {{justified|Trope}}, considering the fact that [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick also took considerable levels in Jerkass (especially the latter).
*** "Little Yellow Book" is a very good showcase for Squidward's {{Jerkass}}ery, as he reads [=SpongeBob=]'s [[spoiler:work]] diary without apologizing or showing remorse, and reads [=SpongeBob=]'s [[spoiler:personal]] diary on purpose in the ending, even saying getting {{Produce Pelt|ing}}ed is WorthIt.
** While not as much as Mr. Krabs, [[Characters/SpongeBobSquarePantsTitularCharacter SpongeBob SquarePants]] can also shift into {{Jerkass}} territory at times. A good example of [=SpongeBob=] being more of a jerk comes in "A Pal for Gary". Worried that Gary is lonely, he gets a new pet (by stealing it) but ignores the seller's warning it hates other pets, which constantly ruins Gary's life among with berating and punishing him for being unsupportive of it. When [=SpongeBob=] sees Puffy Fluffy eating Gary, he says that Gary should put Puffy Fluffy down. [[LaserGuidedKarma Then Puffy attempts to eat him]] and when Gary saves him, [[UngratefulBastard he scolds him for making Puffy run away rather than thanking Gary]]. Even by the later seasons' standards, that's moronic of [=SpongeBob=], not to mention quite dickish.
*** There's also "Choir Boys", in which he seems to be tormenting Squidward deliberately and reveling in his misfortune.
*** In "Demolition Doofus", while he accidentally injures Mrs. Puff, he isn't less dickish [[BullyingTheDisabled since he proposes to call her "Mrs. Pop"]], says she looks better that way, and seems uncaring for her plight, [[NeverMyFault and he also refuses to own up for causing Mrs. Puff to end up like she is now]]. Although Mrs. Puff is also uncharacteristically bitchy in the episode, going so far as to attempt to ''murder'' [=SpongeBob=], but that fails because of his bad driving and the fact he's an invertebrate. Oh, and she never gets arrested for it. [[{{Bowdlerise}} The book adaptation tones down her role a little]] to have her act slightly less jerky than she did in the episode, and she instead enters [=SpongeBob=] in the derby in hopes he'll get badly injured to the point he's too scared about driving and he'll never want to drive again.
*** There's also season 12's "Jolly Lodgers", in which both [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick seem to disrupt Squidward and follow him all over the hotel deliberately despite his insist to be alone, repeatedly forcing him to come to the jellyfishing convention with them, and they never stop until Squidward calls pest control and boots everyone out. In addition, they were the ones responsible for the urchin outbreak in the beginning.
*** "Plane to Sea" from season 13 revolves around [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick being intentionally malicious (rigging a contest so Squidward wins and he has to take them), then proceeding to be insufferable assholes during a plane ride: smashing drink carts into him, throwing the staff and pilots out of the plane, pouring burning hot coffee in his mouth, and then telling him that he "did nothing" helpful during the trip.
** [[Characters/SpongeBobSquarePantsPatrickStar Patrick Star]] even more so:
*** There's the episode "Yours, Mine, and Mine", where Patrick "borrows" money from [=SpongeBob=] to "share" a Krabby Meal together. He of course eats the whole thing himself. Mr. Krabs then makes Sponge pay ''extra'' for the toy (which is really just a Krabby Patty that Krabs dressed up as a doll). Patrick then claims that since he and [=SpongeBob=] are still "sharing" that he gets to play with it. Long story short, Pat eventually never lets [=SpongeBob=] play with the "toy" (that he paid for) and he inevitably eats it just so [=SpongeBob=] can't have it. It has gotten to the point that ''Mr. Krabs'', of all people, punishes the two for fighting and the two eventually make-up, and gives each of them another toy to call it even. The episode ends as Pat offers to pay for some new toys, by using [=SpongeBob=]'s wallet. When [=SpongeBob=] calls him out on that, he asks him "[[KnowNothingKnowItAll Have you learned nothing about sharing?]]"
*** "Pet Sitter Pat", when he "takes care" of Gary while [=SpongeBob=] visits his grandma for her birthday, he just [[BabysitterFromHell eats his food, pours the rest of it in the sink, terrorizes him with a]] FireBreathingWeapon, [[BabysitterFromHell forcefully washes him with a hose and soap flakes, planned to use salt to dry him up (only not doing so because he couldn't find any), and uses a hairdryer that painfully dries, hardens and shrivels up Gary]]. Fortunately, it surprisingly ends on a cozy note when Gary reads a bedtime story to him.
*** "The Card" revolves around Patrick getting a rare Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy card that [=SpongeBob=] is desperate to own. Patrick then proceeds to abuse the card in so many ways (using it as a lockpick, grilling it and eating it in a Krabby Patty, scratching his back with it), it's easy to think he's actually doing this all just to torture [=SpongeBob=], who gets increasingly stressed and worried about the card. And as you can expect, after doing much more dangerous things with it (such as potentially smashing it or setting it on fire), when [=SpongeBob=] warns him, Patrick just says, "[[ObfuscatingStupidity SpongeBob, you can't always expect my usual brand of stupidity. I like to mix it up. Keep you on your toes]]." And Patrick flimsily makes it up to [=SpongeBob=] by just giving him new cards, instead of ''at least'' demanding forgiveness for how he freaked him out.
** Mrs. Puff started as a beaten-down, apathetic teacher who's genuinely good to her students but struggles with [=SpongeBob=]'s enthusiasm and bad driving. For instance, when he thinks he's a bad hall monitor in season 1, she feels bad for him and lets him wear the uniform anyways. In season 2's "No Free Rides", she even realizes it's better to just keep him in class and suffer with him than let him drive and wreak havoc in town. By season 10, she's outright insane, harasses and mocks him outside of school ("Girls' Night Out", "A Cabin in the Kelp") and actively wants him to suffer ("Kwarantined Krab").
* ''WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil'':
** [[Characters/StarVsTheForcesOfEvilStarButterfly Star Butterfly]] was pretty stubborn and rough during the first season, but Season 2 displays her as being more selfish than earlier on.
*** All Star wanted do was have fun with the Buff Frog's tadpoles she and Marco are babysitting in "Starsitting", instead of following Buff Frog's instructions like Marco.
*** When Ruberiot arrives to write Star's song for Song Day in "Face the Music", she leaves after asking him for tea. Returning, Ruberiot says he can't leave until he writes her song, and Star was threatening to leave again unless he leaves. When Marco pleads she do as he says, Star replies she doesn't want anything to do with him or the song he'll write because she's appalled of the fact she has to have her own written song that stretches the truth about her. She even [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech calls him out on his work]].
* ''WesternAnimation/StrawberryShortcake'':
** Angel Cake undergoes such in the final season of the 2003 incarnation, sometimes acting even more bossy than Peppermint Fizz was. She even portrayed the villain in the show's version of "Sleeping Beauty".
** Raspberry Tart in the 2021 incarnation, with the addition of being upgraded to an AlphaBitch. She later [[DefrostingIceQueen undergoes]] a [[TookALevelInKindness ton of]] CharacterDevelopment upon joining the main cast and befriending Strawberry Shortcake, to the point where she now averts this trope.
* WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse is a rarely more tragic case. As ''[[WesternAnimation/StevenUniverseFuture Future]]'' progresses, [[Characters/StevenUniverseStevenQuartzUniverse Steven Quartz Universe's]] buried resentment starts to come up more and more due to his ShellShockedVeteran stresses, which are themselves exacerbated by Steven not having any more major problems to distract himself with as he tries to handle the changes in his life. Fortunately, after his issues are resolved (or at least are being dealt with) in the series finale, Steven regains his kind disposition, and thoughtfully gives his loved ones gifts before [[ButNowIMustGo leaving Beach City]].
* While still a rather sympathetic character, Baloo's ''WesternAnimation/TaleSpin'' counterpart is often shown to act more selfish and egotistical than his original ''WesternAnimation/TheJungleBook1967'' interpretation (albeit DependingOnTheWriter). In contrast Louie and Shere Khan are [[TookALevelInKindness slightly less antagonistic]].
* One of the main complaints about ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitansGo'' is the fact that the main team ([[TokenGoodTeammate excluding Starfire]], mostly) has undergone this, often throwing random people and even [[WithFriendsLikeThese each other]] under the bus.
* Both WesternAnimation/TomAndJerry seemed to have done this when Creator/ChuckJones started directing the shorts. Jerry would sometimes start their EscalatingWar without provocation--in "The Year of the Mouse" he and another mouse took on a role similar to [[WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes Hubie and Bertie]], driving Tom insane purely for kicks. On the other hand, Tom's torture of Jerry was severely stepped up, particularly in "Of Feline Bondage", where the sadistic glee he took in tormenting him was rather... unsettling.
* Much like ''The Simpsons'', pretty much everyone in ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'' underwent this as the series progressed, but some are definitely bigger examples than others:
** Geoff undergoes this in season 2 when, as the host of the aftermath show, he let fame go to his head, to the point where he tried to drop an anvil on his former friend DJ and feed Gwen to a {{piranha|Problem}}.
** The case can also be made for [[Characters/TotalDramaCourtney Courtney]] after her return to the show in season two. She went from being a slightly stuck-up and haughty girl who was still civil enough to be the TeamMom, to a scheming, spoiled princess who uses her lawyers to cheat her way to numerous advantages on the show. She basically transformed from a significantly better version of [[RichBitch Heather]] to a straight up {{Expy}}.
** One can argue that Beth got this as well during season two, as she tends to get angry a lot more often (compared to Season 1 where she only got mad at Heather), as well as being able to manipulate Courtney, of all people.
*** In ''World Tour'', both Geoff and Courtney (the latter at least in the first half of the season) are back to form, only for Cody, Gwen, and Duncan to get jerkier.
** Lightning in ''Revenge of the Island'' For most of the season, he is just a DumbJock. However, when Cameron took immunity instead of him in episode 11, he's rather bitter (even though it was his own fault for showing off before then). While his personality doesn't really change, he's notably more antagonistic towards Cameron and Zoey, and effectively replaces Scott as the villain near the end of the season. He's mostly back to his prior levels of antagonism during his run on ''All-Stars''.
** Dave from ''Pahkitew Island'' is a rare case of this happening '''in the very season he debuted in'''. As the season progresses, his frustration at his teammates causes him to go from an OnlySaneMan [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold with a heart of gold]] to an EntitledBastard towards Sky. He gets worse in the finale where he finds out that Sky already has a boyfriend.
* Sentinel Prime of ''WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated'' was always a jerk, but in the third season it seemed that it was all there was to him. "Predacons Rising" has him take it to villainous levels, being ready to ''kill'' his former love interest because she's now [[FantasticRacism part organic]]. Keep in mind that believing she was dead and being angry with Optimus for leaving her behind was ''the reason for his {{Jerkass}}itude'' when it came to Optimus and his team. He ''started'' at merely GoodIsNotNice, but that's fully gone by season three.
** And [[WhatCouldHaveBeen if the show had gotten a fourth season]], he apparently would've gotten even ''worse'': [[spoiler: taking over after Ultra Magnus dies, becoming a KnightTemplar with an authoritarian regime...]]
*** While Megatron from Franchise/TransformersGeneration1 was never the nicest being in the world (what with being the BigBad and all), he became far ''worse'' when he was upgraded to Galvatron.
*** Much of Galvatron's {{Jerkass}} traits come from being left in a plasma bath that affected his neural circuitry, following [[WesternAnimation/TheTransformersTheMovie his defeat at the hands of]] [[TheChosenOne Rodimus Prime]]. He spends more of his time being a BadBoss, beating up on his own troops, than he does blasting Autobots, to the point where in "Webworld" Cyclonus - his most loyal lieutenant - gets tired enough of the abuse that he tries to have Galvatron "cured" of his insanity. It doesn't work.
*** In the same cartoon, Cliffjumper in "Traitor" spontaneously accused [[NiceGuy Mirage]] of treachery without proof.
*** The normally affable Brawn belittles Perceptor at every turn in "Microbots", until Perceptor saves their hides. It seems being a {{Jerkass}} at some point is a prerequisite for first-year Autobot mini-vehicles (Gears and Huffer are normally pretty dour), unless you're [[KidAppealCharacter Bumblebee]] or the underutilized Windcharger.
* Iron Man in ''[[WesternAnimation/UltimateSpiderMan2012 Ultimate Spider-Man]]'' was initially a mentor to Spider-Man. However in "Swarm", he seemed much more disrespectful and distant towards Spidey.
* Rabbit from Disney's ''Franchise/WinnieThePooh'' has had problems with this after "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day" (coincidently or not, the last Pooh project Creator/WaltDisney oversaw). The thin line between "harried, sympathetic [[StraightMan straight man]]" and "unpleasant killjoy" ''is'' hard to walk, after all.
* [[ComicBook/{{Quicksilver}} Pietro Maximoff]] on ''WesternAnimation/XMenEvolution'' started as a minor antagonist/rival with some {{Jerkass}} traits; when season two hit, he was the only one who doesn't become sympathetic & by the end of the series he takes a level in Jerkass by revealing that Mystique had been impersonating the Professor so she could blow up the mansion, something Pietro and the other Brotherhood members not only knew, but likely helped. Then he fucks EVERYONE over by joining the Acolytes, Magneto's new team, since he had been TheMole the whole time. Then when Magneto lets the Brotherhood join him he puts Pietro in charge, who has Toad work as a ''TV antenna'', and Blob make him sandwiches, throwing them back in his face for the tiniest detail until Blob ''cries''.
** Next season, Pietro taunts his sister [[ComicBook/ScarletWitch Wanda]] until she accidentally derails a train, which unintentionally ends up painting them as heroes to the public & rewarded with cash; he then stages several accidents so they can cash in, ultimately framing the X-Men when they catch on of misusing their powers on a rampage, before deciding to derail another train to send it all home. When he finds out that this time many more people are in danger, he decides to leave quickly out of fear and selfishness, knowing full well that ''many people are going to die'' because of his own selfishness. And this is ''after'' he was an accomplice in his own sister's MindRape and persuaded Toad not to reveal the truth to her.
** Irony is he's a [[DracoInLeatherPants/WesternAnimation Draco in Leather Pants]], so the fangirls of ''X-Men Evolution''' interprets ''him'' as the only good member of the Brotherhood, despite the fact that, arguably, he's the most self-centred character the series. Apocalypse is a KnightTemplar who wishes for the world to become a Mutant utopia, ComicBook/{{Magneto}} is a WellIntentionedExtremist who wants to avoid another Holocaust, every other Brotherhood member has redeeming qualities (especially Avalanche), Colossus is an AntiVillain under {{Blackmail}}, Gambit is a hired Merc/thief who had some PetTheDog Moments, Sabertooth and Pyro are just plain crazy... but Pietro is a calculating, selfish dick who serves only himself (and his father isn't a sufficient excuse for some of the shit he pulls).
* ''Toys/{{Bionicle}}'': Pohatu in the 2015 online animations was a silent and reserved no-nonsense badass (but as evidenced by the comics, was less stern around puppies). In ''The Journey to One'' cartoon, he becomes a brooding obnoxious jerk who's quick to voice his displeasure with things, and acts incredibly hostile towards his animal partner Ketar -- which is partially justified, as Pohatu despises scorpions, and Ketar happens to be one. On the other hand, the show has an inversion in the case of Kopaka. He was a major asshole towards his rival Tahu early on, but doesn't showcase any of that hostility here.
* ''WesternAnimation/ThomasAndFriends'':
** Edward was a kind-hearted and patient engine in the earlier seasons, but at the start of season 6 and onwards, he is prone to rude and arrogant moments DependingOnTheWriter. As of season 17, he returns to his original personality.
** Since debuting in season 7, Emily started off as a kind and mature engine. At the start of season 8, she becomes bossy, rude, and haughty. Even the episode "Emily's Adventure" focuses on her learning how to be polite to others. She [[CharacterRerailment returns to her original personality]] in season 13, but she still has shades of her childishness.
** As of ''WesternAnimation/TaleOfTheBrave'' and Season 18, James has spiraled so high in terms of jerkass levels that it's actually hard to believe. He also did this in his appearances after "James and the Express".
** Thomas himself is exceptionally petty and insecure in ''WesternAnimation/SodorsLegendOfTheLostTreasure'', [[NeverMyFault blaming others for his accidents]] or ignoring their warnings of danger. After he tricks Ryan into taking bad coal, the sparks nearly set off a load of dynamite. Thomas manages to dump it down the cavern he fell into earlier in the film, but during the panic to get rid of it, endangers Ryan, and is scolded by the Fat Controller for doing so. This finally reins him back in. That, and the danger [[BigBad Sailor John]] poses.
*** In the same special, The Fat Controller also feels like this. In fact, some fans thought he was actually going to tell Thomas he had had enough of him and intended to replace and sell him. Though to be fair, his attitude throughout the special stems from the fact that Thomas is causing tremendous amounts of damage both physically and financially [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome (meaning Sir Topham Hatt has to pay for repairs to the damaged coaches, listen to complaints from angry passengers, and deal with the repeated delays to the construction of the new branch line)]] and is refusing to take responsibility for his actions. Given that, it's [[JustifiedTrope understandable that Sir Topham Hatt seems stricter than usual.]] Then again, he was [[DisproportionateRetribution too harsh and unfair]] towards Thomas after the dynamite incident, not letting him explain that he was trying to save everyone and cruelly sent poor Thomas to his shed in disgrace.
** Bill and Ben are known to be mischievous and bratty engines, but since [[TheBusCameBack their return]] in Season 17, they've become considerably nastier. This is especially noticeable in their treatment of Timothy.
* In the original ''WesternAnimation/BobTheBuilder'' Series. Lofty (Bob's mobile crane) was a [[LovableCoward Lovable Coward]] who wouldn't hurt a fly. In the 2015 revival, he's a snarker who insults Scoop on a daily basis.
* ''WesternAnimation/SheRaAndThePrincessesOfPower'':
** [[Characters/SheRaAndThePrincessesOfPowerCatra Catra]] starts out with an obvious mean ''streak'', but after Adora's departure from the Horde, it begins to consume her: she starts taking a sadistic pleasure in hurting Adora, berating her underlings and so on. It reaches its peak in season 4, as she copes with repressed guilt over [[spoiler:the whole portal thing]] by bullying everyone around her, demanding absurd workloads, hurling verbal abuse at Scorpia and so on; [[spoiler:she manages to drive ''at least'' four people out of the Horde, including the previously very loyal Scorpia, via MistreatmentInducedBetrayal]].
** In season 4, between the stress of [[spoiler:becoming Queen]] and the breakup of the Best Friends Squad, [[Characters/SheRaAndThePrincessesOfPowerGlimmer Glimmer's]] negative traits start to take over. She becomes jealous and resentful of Adora, seeing her attempts to take the lead as challenges to Glimmer's authority [[spoiler:and blaming her for Angella's death]]. Her ruthless streak, hinted at in earlier episodes, comes to the forefront, and she starts taking bigger risks, using Adora as a decoy, lashing out at her allies, and so on. Even at her worst, though, she still keeps ''some'' positive traits; she seems genuinely friendly towards [[spoiler:post-HeelFaceTurn Scorpia]], for example, and doesn’t treat everyone like complete crap like Catra does.
