* Fanfic/QueenOfAllOni: Chapter 14 has a scene of most of the Shadow Hand playing poker, and another of Right comforting Jade after her confrontation with her father. Neither was originally planned, but were added spur of the moment.
** Per WordOfGod, 's brief cameo at the end of Chapter 16 was a last-minute addition.
* Hoyle's Rules of Dragon Poker allows players to add cards from other games in and play them.
--> 230. If a card from another game is successfully snuck in after the session has begun and one round played, the card is valid and must be used in the manner intended by the original game.
* While writing Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog fanfic, Fanfic/PrisonIslandBreak, author Breech Loader's computer apparently suffered a malfunction and 15 pre-written chapters - including those pertaining to the vital 'Riot' arc - were lost. Breech managed to re-write 15 chapters in three weeks. By her standards for chapter lengths, that's about 52,500 words. That's 2,500 words per day. An awful lot of things changed.
** Part of the reason for the convoluted LoveTriangle is because of the huge arguments between the co-authors as to the end pairing. Now that they have parted, the debate seems to have eased off - for now.
* Thanks to Creator/NimbusLlewelyn's confessed tendency towards WritingByTheSeatOfYourPants when it comes to the fine details, this happens frequently in his stories, particularly in Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm, when he threw in a teenaged Carol Danvers and Jean-Paul Beaubier, and a few chapters later, a teenage OC called Uhtred and a pre-teen Diana of Themyscira, just so Harry would have people his age outside Hogwarts to interact with, and picked more or less at random. All four have had considerable CharacterDevelopment and become important parts of the supporting cast, with Carol ascending from extra to borderline Deuteragonist by the sequel.
* has a storyline in which the main characters need to shop for some stuff for Kagami's goldfish. What this stems from, is that author [=McKnight's=] beta reader (who is not into Manga/LuckyStar) commented on some instructions Kagami gives to Matsuri and Inori at the end of chapter 2, initially assuming she keeps the fish in a bowl or tank. During some discussion from there, [=McKnight=] showed her a canon scene of Kagami feeding it, and she commented on the lack of features in the pond and how unhealthy that is for a fish.
** Its spinoff one-shot Birthday of Destiny contains several minor examples. For example, the dessert of choice was something the author and his family had for dessert on Thanksgiving of 2013, the time during which he was writing the first half of that fic. A few months later, towards finishing the fic up, he had realized a plothole in which Tadao was with his family while awaiting the main characters at Rokuna's house despite having stayed back at Konata's with Soujiro and Yui to fight off the Starman Jr. when everyone else had fled. What better way to clear that up than with a cutaway line by Miki.
* The authors of the Fanfic/SkyholdAcademyYearbook series admit that the bulk of what appears in the stories is a result of this trope. Many plots and details came about simply as a result of "Hey, you know what would be fun for them to do..." Since the entire series hinges on WishFulfillment, the result is that the reader gets to watch VideoGame/DragonAgeInquisition characters doing everything from attending the InUniverse equivalent of a Renaissance faire to going to the dentist. (ItMakesSenseInContext.)
* FanFic/ThePiecesLieWhereTheyFell:
** The Hatchery System being modeled after the Residential Schools of Canada (a school system created for the purpose of removing children from the influence of their own culture and assimilating them into the dominant Canadian culture) was not intended from the beginning, but after a while (around the time Page pointed out, and Wind Breaker finally admitted it, that the Hatchery system was designed to break the griffon in him), it became intentional.
** Some of Anon e Mouse Jr.'s earliest contributions to the fic, prior to his being made a full co-author, also qualify - he thought of something (such as Vix-Lei mentioning that the members of the Questioning Order gave her the creeps), made the suggestion, and Evilhumour liked it and had him put it in.
* Fanfic/TheNewAdventuresOfInvaderZim has several examples:
** Originally, the creator of Project Domination was just going to be a nameless rogue Meekrob. At the last moment, while writing the scene, the author was inspired to name him Ch'rell as a ShoutOut to WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2003.
** The fight between Norlock and Slab Rankle in Episode 12 concluding with was apparently a decision made late in that chapter's development.
** The entirety of Episode 15 was based on a proposed outline from one of the author's friends, which he liked so much he decided to include it. Also, being involved wasn't in the original outline, but was added later in the planning process.
** That same friend provided other outlines which served as the basis for the Mature Edition, which was only created because the author couldn't make them fit in the main series.
** The CarnivalOfKillers plot from Episode 3 of Season 2 was originally envisioned years earlier as a standalone story which never coalesced. Instead, the author remembered it and decided to incorporate it into this series.
* FanFic/TheMLPLoops: When writing what would become Loop 157.11 ("Dragonshy with a different type of dragon"), Anon e Mouse Jr. intended to have Discord say "There's a plain statue [in the garden of Canterlot Castle]". He accidentally typed "plane" instead, and was hit with inspiration, leading to his not only keeping the line as-is but adding a CutawayGag where the princesses are in their garden and staring in confusion at a statue of a Sopwith Camel.
* For the Fanfic/HalloweenUnspectacular anthology series, while many of the stories are planned out in advance the author will occasionally write some on the fly as he's inspired by various sources. Also, he'll usually throw a few requests from his readers into the mix as well.
* The author of Fanfic/PokemonResetBloodlines reads the feedback he receives, and sometimes the readers' suggestions make it into the story:
** In Chapter 22, the part with Ash having his Pidgeot fly to Serena's house with a warning was written because a fan mentioned the possibility of it happening.
** AZ appeared in the first Holiday Special, by the author's own admission, because of WebAnimation/PokemonGenerations episode 18, which aired on the 23rd of December.
** Ash catching the Exeggutor group that was originally Melvin's in the Safari Zone came from a review in the Spanish translation suggesting that Ash should catch one.
* Fanfic/CitadelOfTheHeart is the first fanfic or story of any kind made by Creator/MF217 to feature the modern incarnation of his AuthorAvatar Grandis, which means this is also the very first incarnation of Grandis to feature several common developmental in-jokes to become Ascended Memes; Grandis' DeepSouth accent, the Dimetrodon AnimalMotif, the MediumAwareness he exhibits being tied into his omniscience, [[spoiler:being a PuppetKing People Puppet who is controlled as a vessel by the author himself with Grandis' actual personality and behavior being a RiddleForTheAges,]] and the massive SelfDeprecation against the author in that Grandis is an exaggerated take on Jerkass every Jerkass negative quality the author personally has or has ever had, despite the author sometimes referring to him as his "an ideal version of himself".
* InUniverse in the WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug fic Under Lock and Key . Adrien is supposed to have a Victorian-themed photoshoot. However, since him and Marinette are in a ChainedHeat situation and won't be out of it for a couple more days, it is changed into a rocker couple one.
* Fanfic/EscapeFromTheMoon: In the sequel The Mare From the Moon, Spliced's moniker of "Viral Maniac" was suggested by a user on the Spacebattles thread well over a year prior to making it into the story.
* WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged:
** Kaiser Neko's "Episode Breakdown" videos generally show exactly what all was thrown in on a whim.
** In their Anime/DragonBallZ Kai Abridged Episode 2 alone, we have Vegeta coughing up blood during Goku's "You killed Vegeta!" line (because Masako flubbed a take), Freeza flipping everyone off when asking "Who's next?" or even the same arm re-edited for a visual gag when it falls next to Freeza's dying form when he tells Goku that his spaceship is "That way".
* The Fanfic/FobbiesAreBorange spinoff Loids Are Not Christmas is completely improvised, leading to such memorable lines as "I'MMA HIT IT...WITH MY HAND."
* WebVideo/PokemonTabletopUtopusRegion: At one point in the arc with GuestCharacters Team Peasant Poppers, the DM mentions the characters heading west when they clearly aren't. He laughs it off with 'Yeah, see, my setting has two wests', prompting Phoenica to take out a compass shaped like a star. A few episodes later, this becomes worked into Nera Scuro's backstory: Her hometown is in the original direction of west, and when west officially changed (for no apparent reason), deliveries became almost impossible. As supplies started running low, Nera was forced to turn to pickpocketing to make ends meet.
** In Explorers of the Heart, another series on their channel, Nanaki accidentally walked her character Ruru off the left side of the screen having just been told that they needed to go to the north. She laughed it off and canonised that Ruru has NoSenseOfDirection.
