Examples of TheSmurfettePrinciple in live-action TV.
----

* ''Series/ThirdRockFromTheSun'' features four aliens sent to Earth to study mankind, after having learned some about Earth from its popular culture. They maintain occasional communication with the (male) "Big Giant Head", who decided that only one of the four sent to Earth needed to be "The Woman". Thanks to their lack of understanding of the culture they would be infiltrating it went to the [[TestosteronePoisoning hyper-masculine]] security officer, who thought breasts looked suitably intimidating when none of the choices had horns .
* ''Series/{{Angel}}'' has a variation of this, with the role of the Smurfette shifting between three different characters:
** Played completely straight in Seasons 1 and 2, when Cordelia is the only female team member (and cast member) .
** Season 3 is the only one with TwoGirlsToATeam after Fred joins the main cast, except for the very beginning, when Fred is still reeling from her years in Pylea, and a late-season arc, when Cordelia gets PutOnABus.
** Season 4 cements Fred as the new Smurfette of the team, with Cordelia first missing, then amnesiac, then secretly the BigBad, and ultimately comatose.
** The first half of Season 5 sees Fred keep the spot, with Cordelia removed from the main cast and appearing in only one episode. After Fred dies and Illyria inhabits her body, longtime recurring character Harmony joins the cast; whether this counts as her taking over as the Smurfette, a return to TwoGirlsToATeam, or none of the above depends on one's assessment of Harmony's allegiance and Illyria's nature.
* ''Series/TheBigBangTheory'' started with five main characters: the four male nerds, and the girl who lives across the hall (Penny). As the series progressed, more and more female characters were added, until the main cast (four guys and their respective {{Love Interest}}s) has become a GenderEqualEnsemble.
* In ''Series/BlakesSeven'', every armed resistance group or Federation base seems to have a single female member in a speaking role, while everyone else is male. There are never any female mooks in the background, silently working their way up the ranks to the position of Supreme Commander or Rebel Leader. Averted with the Seven however, where there's always TwoGirlsToATeam. Inverted with the Federation's [[SlaveMooks Mutoids]]: We see the odd male background Mutoid (at least in the first season), but the vast majority and all the speaking ones are [[AmazonBrigade female]].
* The PoliceProcedural ''Series/BlueHeelers'' began with three female cast members to four males, but only Maggie was a police officer. The other two were Chris, the owner of the local pub, and Roz, who was married to one of the male officers and did work at the station for most of the first season (either as a cleaner or as a civilian receptionist), before being written out and replaced with another male officer. The show evolved to TwoGirlsToATeam in Season 3 and Three Girls in Season 11.
* On ''Series/{{Bookaboo}},'' this is in effect for any female guest reader; the band is made up entirely of male dogs.
* ''Series/TheBoys2019'': Originally, the Boys had just one woman in their ranks, dubbed "The Female" until they find out her name is Kimiko. However, [[spoiler:in Season 2 this is subverted with Starlight joining]].
* The FiveManBand in ''Series/CaptainPowerAndTheSoldiersOfTheFuture'' included Captain Power, Hawk, Tank, and Scout, all male. Sometime before the start of the show, they rescued Jennifer "Pilot" Chase from the Dread Youth, and she joined the crew.
* Sergeant Pringle is the only woman (and the only competent member of the police force) in ''Series/CoppersEnd''.
* ''Series/TheDailyShowWithJonStewart'' rarely has more than one female regular at a time, if that. Currently, the only female correspondents are regular Samantha Bee and the very irregularly recurring Kristen Schaal. The show's spotty record with women correspondents was {{lampshade|Hanging}}d when Kristen Schaal took over the show and declared Jon Stewart to be the new Senior Men's Correspondent: "Feel free to talk about men's issues. But don't expect to be on the show more than every four to twelve weeks or so." Creator/OliviaMunn has appeared multiple times, which may make her the third regular female correspondent. The show has since recruited Jessica Williams, so the situation is improving ''slightly''...
* When ''The Daily Show'' changed hosts and became ''Series/TheDailyShowWithTrevorNoah'', Jessica and Desi Lydic were the two regular female correspondents, but Jessica departed in June 2016, leaving Desi the sole regular female correspondent until Dulcé Sloan was added in 2017. Michelle Wolf and Gina Yashere are recurring contributors and are not considered regular correspondents.
* ''Series/{{Daredevil|2015}}'':
** Season 2 has just ''one'' random, unnamed Yakuza lady. She's apparently the only female Mook in the entirety of Hell's Kitchen, since every other goon is a guy or masked and not obviously a woman.
** Season 3 is structured around "deep POV" and focus primarily on six different characters: Matt, Karen, Foggy, Fisk, Dex, and Nadeem. Of which Karen is the only one who's female.
** Also from season 3, [[MoleInCharge SAC Tammy Hattley]] seems to be the only one of the FBI agents blackmailed into being Fisk's private hit squad who is a woman.
** The show leaves much to be desired when it comes to the female characters interacting with each other or having relevance outside of their men. Claire gets some interactions with another woman at the hospital in season 2, but otherwise spends two seasons only interacting with men (this isn't true in the other shows where she makes acquaintances of Colleen, Misty and even Jessica, but it's true within ''Daredevil''). Marci only interacts with Foggy; Karen is present in her first scene, but it’s only so Karen can admire Foggy, and drag Marci afterward. Vanessa, Madame Gao, Elektra, and Reyes, they also are surrounded by men and only interact with men. (Not true of Madame Gao and Elektra in ''The Defenders'', where they interact with one another and Alexandra, but true in ''Daredevil''.)
** There's a semi-justified case of this across ''Daredevil'' and ''Jessica Jones'' in that the only female lawyers we've seen who've had more than a background presence have been Jeri Hogarth and Marci Stahl. Which is somewhat justified since corporate law firms are highly male-dominated, and Jeri even has several scenes in ''Jessica Jones'' season 2 where she mentions having to be extra tough and ruthless in order to succeed and be taken seriously by her male colleagues (having the further handicap of being lesbian).
* ''Series/TheDefenders2017'': While there are quite a few major supporting characters who are female, the titular team of four heroes consists of only one woman, Series/{{Jessica Jones|2015}}. When the Defenders and their support staff are combined, this is a little more averted since Colleen, Claire, and Misty are also part of the climax.
* ''Series/{{Dexter}}'': While there are other female officers, none of them seem to be as highly ranked as Debra Morgan or Maria [=LaGuerta=], and the latter seems to be the only woman in a position of power, save the woman who was brought in to try and undermine [=LaGuerta=]'s authority. The latter caved under the pressure of her personal life.
* Creator/DisneyXD usually does this in its live-action shows, due to the shows mainly targeting boys, with the only exceptions (excluding the dual spinoff ''Series/LabRatsEliteForce'') being ''Series/CrashAndBernstein'' and ''Series/KirbyBuckets''. Examples include:
** Emma Lau in ''Series/AaronStone''.
** Ginger Falcone in the first two seasons of ''Series/ZekeAndLuther''.
** Izzy Fuentes in ''Series/ImInTheBand''.
** Mikayla Makoola in ''Series/PairOfKings''.
** Kim Crawford in the first three seasons of ''Series/KickinIt''.
** Bree Davenport in ''Series/LabRats''.
** Skylar Storm in ''Series/MightyMed''.
** Ashley Parker in ''Series/GamersGuideToPrettyMuchEverything''.
** Veracity in the second season of ''Series/MechX4''.
** Bailey in ''Series/WalkThePrank''.
* ''Series/DoctorWho'', the Third Doctor episodes, set on Earth in a male dominated military organisation, used mostly guys, with main cast members being the Doctor, TheBrigadier, Benton, later Mike (who gets replaced by Harry for the Fourth Doctor episodes), and one female character; first Liz, who was replaced by Jo, who was then replaced by Sarah-Jane Smith.
* The first eight series of ''Series/DragonsDen UK'' had only one female dragon on the panel at the time: Rachel Elnaugh in the first two series and then Deborah Meaden who remains on the show up to this day. This [[Main/TwoGirlsToATeam changed]] in series 9 with the addition of Hilary Devey and her replacements Kelly Hoppen, Sarah Willingham and Jenny Campbell.
* ''{{Series/Emergency}}'': Even today, firefighting is male-dominated. To their credit, episodes may feature female trainees or female doctors. Dixie, however, was the only female regular.
* ''Series/FellowTravelers'': Lucy Fuller (née Smith) is the sole major female character in the story, and her actress Creator/AllisonWilliams is the lone woman in the main cast.
* ''Series/GameOfThrones'':
** Lyanna Mormont is literally the ''only'' head of a major Northern House shown to be female, even during their war council in the Season 6 finale. In the books, at least four Houses are headed by women at this point (due to all the men dying in the war). Notably, in that same war council scene, "Lord Cerwyn" appears — in the books, House Cerwyn is headed by a ''woman'' at this point, because Ramsay killed her father and brother. The TV series actively gender-swapped female leaders into male ones — possibly to showcase Lyanna as "exceptional" (when in the books, female rulers are fairly commonplace). Furthermore, Lyanna is literally the ''only'' female head of a major vassal House (not one of the Great Houses like the Tyrells or Lannisters) who has appeared in the first six TV seasons that is both a recurring role and has speaking lines. She's also only the ''second'' female head of a major noble House to have speaking lines — the first was Anya Waynwood in Season 4, who only appeared in one episode. Even though Lyanna's mother Maege did appear on-screen in Season 1, she didn't have any speaking lines nor was she identified in dialogue (it was really just a cameo).
** Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen was the only queen regnant in the history of the Seven Kingdoms -- ''sort of'' -- historians only consider her a rival claimant. Cersei Lannister takes the throne at the end of season 6 as the first officially-recognized queen.
** Yara Greyjoy is the only prominent female Ironborn shown onscreen (exactly as in the novels, in which the Ironborn are very misogynistic and her status as a tomboyish warrior is quite unusual).
* ''Series/HawaiiFive0'' is a remake of classic ''Series/HawaiiFiveO'', which is about an elite squad of police in Hawaii. The original didn't have a female regular until the final season, and even then Lori Wilson only appeared in ten episodes. The remake {{Gender Flip}}ped Kono in order to have a girl among the lead characters.
** The trope is maintained after Kono and Chin Ho Kelly leave the force, with their respective replacements Tani Rey and Junior Reigns being a woman and man.
* ''Series/HomicideLifeOnTheStreet'' began with only one woman, Detective Howard, in the main cast. That was a deliberate decision to reflect real-life homicide squads, which were dominated by men. As time passed, more women were added to the cast.
* During the fourth season of ''Series/{{House}}'', the title character Invokes this when he's was told he could only hire two doctors, instead of three. He has four prospects, two of each gender. He [[spoiler:kicks one of the women out, and tells the other, nicknamed "13", that he'd hire her if he had a slot]]. Later, his boss, Lisa Cuddy, informs him that he has to [[spoiler:hire at least one woman, and tells him to hire 13]]. Cuddy starts to walk away, then realizes that she had just [[spoiler:[[BatmanGambit given him the three doctors he wanted]].]]
* ''Series/HumanTarget'' began without any female characters, and planned to add a single female character in its second season. Averted by adding [[TwoGirlsToATeam two women to the cast,]] making it a 3:2 male-to-female ratio.
* The Principle is followed in ''Series/ItsAlwaysSunnyInPhiladelphia'' with their 5-person group. Lampshaded in "The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis", when the gang discuss their roles: Mac's the brains, Dennis is the looks, Frank's the muscle, Charlie's the wild card, and Dee's the useless chick.
* ''Series/InterviewWithTheVampire2022'': In Season 1, Claudia is the only major female character, and Bailey Bass is the lone woman in the main cast.
* For Creator/{{Studio 100}}'s ''Series/KabouterPlop'' series. Kwebbel was the only female gnome seen in the show for the first couple of years until Smal got introduced in 2000. More female gnomes were seen in the movies.
* While it's standard for ''Franchise/KamenRider'' to have at least one girl as the secondary lead and a second among the villains, female Riders are few and far between. Even in series where the number of Riders gets into the double digits (''Series/KamenRiderRyuki'', its Western adaptation ''Series/KamenRiderDragonKnight'', and ''Series/KamenRiderGaim'' have about a dozen each), only ''one'' of them will be a woman (Femme, Siren, and Marika, respectively).
** ''Series/KamenRiderExAid'' averts this. [[spoiler:During the mid-season, Poppy Pipopapo/Asuna Karino, the lead female, becomes a Kamen Rider, then, Nico Saiba later gets her Rider form as a Ride Player. This is the first time two females transform into Kamen Riders in the show itself (not counting movies, specials, etc.).]]
* ''Series/LandOfTheGiants'' has a cast of seven humans, [[TwoGirlsToATeam two of which are women.]] Betty was written out for part of the second season because actress Heather Young was pregnant, making Valerie the only female in a group of six.
* ''Series/LegendOfTheSeeker'': Kahlan is the lone woman of the trio in Season 1, along with Richard and Zedd.
* In ''Series/LondonsBurning'' there is only ever one female firefighter in Blue Watch at any one time. This is a [[TruthInTelevision reflection of reality]], as only 3.1% of operational firefighters in the UK are female. In 1986, when the series began, there were less than ten women in the London Fire Brigade. The issue was explored in the pilot movie, when the station gets its first female firefighter and the men initially react with hostility.
* Inverted on ''Series/TheLWord'' where the vast majority of the (very large) EnsembleCast is female and there are only ever one or two major male characters at any time.
* ''Series/{{Letterkenny}}'' in its early seasons has three main male characters and one main female character, the younger sister of one of the males.
* ''Series/{{MASH}}'' only had one major female character, head nurse Major Margaret Houlihan, for its entire eleven-year run.
* ''Series/{{Misfits}}'': Jess begins as the only woman in the second group.
* ''Series/MissionImpossible'' (both the original and revival) never had more than one female regular at a time (though missions could and did have more than one female agent involved) - the original had Cinnamon in the first three seasons, then a revolving door of replacements in season four, Dana in season five, and then Casey for the final two seasons; in the revival Casey came first, and she was replaced by Shannon.
* ''Series/MockTheWeek'' has two teams of three panelists (two of which are guest panelists) and one host. The three regulars are all male, and the relatively few female comedians means it is hard to get more than one female guest panelist.
* ''Series/MontyPythonsFlyingCircus'' featured almost no women, because most of the roles were played by the same six (male) actors anyway, regardless of gender. By their own admission, the Pythons brought in women like "[[SixthRanger Seventh Python]]" Carol Cleveland only when they needed a female character to actually be attractive, otherwise, they'd just get into drag. Both Python precursor series, ''Do Not Adjust Your Set'' and ''Series/AtLastThe1948Show'', featured five person casts consisting of four men and one woman.
* The only major female Muppet is Miss Piggy, a glamourous diva. When she was first introduced, she was a minor character. The large cast of ''Series/TheMuppetShow'' is male-dominant, but this may be due to its slapstick nature (Miss Piggy, for example, rarely takes any of the slapstick, but she certainly dishes it out when provoked). Furthermore, the regular cast used to include other female characters, such as Janice and Hilda, but both became much less prominent after Hilda's puppeteer quit and Janice's puppeteer died, leaving Piggy. Janice herself rarely appeared outside of her FiveManBand (The Electric Mayhem). There have been a few other female Muppets, but their tenure is either short-lived; or they're one-off characters. A notable example is Annie-Sue Pig; a young ingénue and foil to Miss Piggy. Her appearances declined considerably after the 3rd season, although she did still appear from time to time. A number of the [[AmbiguousGender ambiguously-gendered]] monsters are noted in background material as being female; but there is no clear indication of this on the show. This applies to the puppeteers as well; in the first season, there were seven puppeteers, and only one (Eren Ozker) was a woman. Ozker & John Lovelady left after Season 1, so they held auditions for a new female for Season 2, with Louise Gold getting the part (although she was uncredited for the season). In Season 3, they hired another female puppeteer (Kathryn Mullen) but also hired another male (Steve Whitmire) making it 6 guys, 2 girls. Also, in relation to Miss Piggy & Janice, they were (and still are) performed by males. Yeah.
* ''WesternAnimation/MuppetBabies1984'' is a SpinOff from ''Series/TheMuppetShow'', which would have imitated the parent series by having Miss Piggy as the only female character, except they added Skeeter, Scooter's [[HalfIdenticalTwins "identical" twin]], to add a second female to the main cast. ''WesternAnimation/MuppetBabies2018'' replaces Skeeter with Summer the Penguin.
* ''Series/MythBusters'' generally has Kari Byron as the token female. This hasn't always been the case, however; Mythterns Christine and Jess often added a second female to the group, and the earlier episodes with the Build Team had Scottie Chapman as the third member after Kari and Tory. Grant only came on board after Scottie left the show, leaving the cast with Adam, Jamie, Tory, Grant, and Kari (plus [[CompanionCube Buster]]).
* Played for laughs in a [[Recap/MysteryScienceTheater3000S09E07Hobgoblins late episode]] of ''Series/MysteryScienceTheater3000''. Crow becomes convinced that BigBad Pearl is the only woman who really exists, since otherwise he only sees them in movies.
* ''Series/{{NCIS}}'' stars a set of four investigators, only one of which is female at any one time. They do have Abby, a lab tech who is one of two characters who has been in every episode (the other one being Gibbs).
* ''Series/NickyRickyDickyAndDawn'' has Dawn, the only girl and the oldest of the titular Harper quadruplets. Her TokenBlackFriend, Mae Valentine, sometimes serves as "the fifth quad".
* ''Series/NinjaTurtlesTheNextMutation'' had Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo joined by a fifth female Turtle named Venus de Milo.
* ''Series/{{NUMB3RS}}'' has this to some extent. There are always at least two female main cast members, but at the beginning, this was one FBI team member and Amita. Becomes a full aversion when Liz Warner joins the team in late Season Three.
* ''Series/OdiseaBurbujas'' Mafafa Musguito is the only female character in the entire cast of {{Funny Animal}}s.
* ''Series/TheOrder'': Lilith is the only woman in the Knights of St. Christopher.
* ''Series/Pitch2016'': Much of the plot centers on the fact that Ginny not only is the only female Padres player, she's in fact the only women within the MLB, period.
* On ''Series/PressYourLuck'', Tammy Whamette is the only female Whammy among the character animations used on the show.
* In the second season of ''Series/PrisonBreak'', [[EnsembleDarkhorse Sara Tancredi]] is the only female character on the main cast, since Robin Tunney (who played Veronica in the previous season) decided to leave the show. [[DarkActionGirl Gretchen]] and [[SpicyLatina Sofia]] were later added to the main cast in season 3 to avert the principle.
* In ''{{Series/QI}}'', one host asks questions of four panelists (three guests and one regular). Rarely is there more than two female guest panelists, and often none. Jo Brand finds herself as representing the Smurfette Principle on the show on a regular basis, and so have Sandi Toksvig and Sue Perkins. Now that Sandi Toksvig has taken over hosting from Stephen Fry the female representation is often improved.
* ''Series/{{Raumpatrouille}}'':
** Crew of the ''Orion'': At the beginning of episode 1, the crew consists of four men and one woman, but Lieutenant Tamara Jagellovsk of the Galactic Security Service is assigned there during the events of the episode, changing the dynamic to TwoGirlsToATeam. Lt. Jagellovsk is not a crewmember, and leaves during episode 7, restoring the ''Orion'' cast to the "one woman in a team of five" dynamic.
** Crew of the ''Hydra'': General Lydia van Dyke is the only woman belonging to the crew of the ''Hydra'' and the only woman to participate in the high-command-plus-government-representative conferences.
* {{Zig Zagged|Trope}} in ''Series/RedDwarf'', which usually has an all-male cast of Holly, Kryten, Rimmer, Cat, and Lister. But Holly had a sex change for Series III, IV and V. After Holly is rendered male again, Kochanski is added to the crew, and is the only female of the ''Starbug'' for most of VII and VIII. For part of ''Back to Earth'', the hologram Katerina takes up the female role, [[spoiler:Kochanski being assumed dead]].
* The primary cast of ''Series/RescueMe'' features a dozen different firefighters on "62 Truck", but only Probationary Firefighter Laura Miles is a woman. The non-FDNY characters round out the gender dynamics some, but there's only ever one woman on the 62 Truck.
* ''Series/ReservationDogs'': Jackie is the only female member of her gang.
* In ''The Riddlers'', Tiddler (later known as Tiddleup) is the only female Riddler. Even when new Riddlers were introduced, they were all male.
* The BBC's ''Series/RobinHood'' was rather stuck. For the first four episodes, Marian was the only female character because there was no other reoccurring female characters in the legends. This was solved with the introduction of Djaq, a SweetPollyOliver in the {{Gender Flip}}ped role of "The Saracen", who contributed her skills as a physician and scientist to the team, leading the series to a more permanent TwoGirlsToATeam dynamic that stayed even when Marian and Djaq were written out.
* ''Series/SesameStreet'' maintains an almost [[GenderEqualEnsemble evenly split by gender human cast,]] but for a long period had zero female Muppets. Many female muppets were around before ''Sesame Street'' made a large push to get a popular one, which was [[http://www.nytimes.com/1993/08/19/garden/on-the-set-with-zoe-this-monster-is-a-girl.html 1993's Zoe.]] By now, the Smurfette Principle on the show is fully averted, even if the male muppets still outnumber the female muppets.
* ''Series/SiliconValley'' was this in its first season, with Monica being the only female character of any significance. [[TruthInTelevision Somewhat justified]], as technology companies in Silicon Valley are often [[http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2014/11/24/valley-boys overwhelmingly male]]. The second season introduces Laurie Bream and Carla the engineer to balance out the cast a bit.
* In ''Series/{{Smallville}}'', the earliest version of the Justice League includes Clark, Arthur, Victor, Bart, Oliver, and Chloe. This group defied FiveManBand, and even allowed Chloe to be romantically involved with someone outside the group.
* ''Series/StargateSG1'' includes only a minority of female characters: Samantha Carter is the only woman on the team (although there is a recurring female doctor who eventually ends up [[spoiler:getting KilledOffForReal]]). Even during production, the military is hardly the most gender equitable of places. Due to ExecutiveMeddling, a sexy female thief gets added to the team in the final two seasons. ''[[Series/StargateAtlantis Atlantis]]'' is a lot better at balancing out the roles.
* ''Franchise/StarTrek'': For a world with supposed complete gender equality, this applies to most ''Trek'' series.
** On ''Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries'', the bridge crew had only Uhura, who was a [[TwoferTokenMinority Token Twofer]] and was also relegated to the position of space receptionist. ''[[FairForItsDay For the time]]'', it was rather progressive to have even one woman on the bridge. The full crew contained more women, but Uhura was the only female bridge crew member.
** The original pilot for ''Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries'' ("The Menagerie") used a TwoGirlsToATeam dynamic, one of which was a female second-in-command. It's been said that Creator/{{NBC}} gave Roddenberry a SadisticChoice: either keep the female second-in-command or keep Spock, but not both. Years later, Majel Barrett would quip that he "kept the Vulcan and married the woman, 'cause he didn't think Creator/{{Leonard|Nimoy}} would have it the other way around."
** ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration'' started with three women - [[TwoGirlsToATeam two who are bridge crew]] - and after Tasha Yar died, there was only Counselor Troi on the bridge. Recurring female characters at least existed, defying the trope for the entire ship.
** ''Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine'' features only one Starfleet officer: Jadzia Dax. Since the space station is owned by a partnership of Bajorans and the Federation, the primary cast is TwoGirlsToATeam, with Kira Nerys acting as Sisko's second-in-command.
** Almost {{averted|trope}} in ''Series/StarTrekVoyager'', where Captain Janeway is the only female bridge member for many seasons. Chief Engineer Torres [[TwoferTokenMinority (who was Klingon, female and half Hispanic)]], Kes and Seven of Nine are all part of the main cast, and are stationed on the bridge for part of the time.
** ''Series/StarTrekEnterprise'' finally [[AvertedTrope averts the trope]] with TwoGirlsToATeam. The bridge crew consists of several men, female first officer/science officer (T'Pol), and a female comm officer/linguist (Hoshi).
** By ''Series/StarTrekDiscovery'' the bridge crew is fairly evenly split between genders. In a straight example, there is L'Rell who is the only significant female character among the Klingons.
* ''Franchise/SuperSentai'' and its western adaptation ''Franchise/PowerRangers'' typically uses a FiveManBand that alternates between using this trope or TwoGirlsToATeam. ''Power Rangers'' leans more towards the latter due to [[ShesAManInJapan changing the gender of several Rangers.]] Most evil factions in both franchises also only include one female member to their roster.
* ''Series/SWAT2017'':
** Chris is the only woman on the team. A minor plot point is there being only one female field agent in the in-universe stated "boys club" of SWAT. She's keen to change that but expresses worry that female trainees will get passed over because [[WantsAPrizeForBasicDecency the higher ups think that they've "done their good deed" by promoting her]]. [[TwoGirlsToATeam Eventually it changes]] when Erika joins (before she's killed off).
** Zoe's the squad's female officer once Chris departs.
* ''Series/{{Taskmaster}}'': The first three series had only one of the five contestants be a woman, with the other four contestants and two hosts being men. Later series typically had [[TwoGirlsToATeam two women out of five]], with the exceptions of Series 9, 12, 13 and 16 (which had three out of five contestants be female) and Series 15 (which has one female, three male and one nonbinary contestant). Also applies to the first Champions of Champions special, as the contestants were the winners of the first five series and only one of those [[spoiler:(Series 2, won by Katherine Ryan)]] was won by a woman.
* The sitcom ''Series/{{Taxi}}'' had lots of taxi drivers, but only Elaine Nardo, a single-mom/art-gallery receptionist until Season Four introduced Simka Dahblitz-Gravas, a LoveInterest and DistaffCounterpart to Latka. Simka was a recurring character until finally joining the main cast permanently in Season Five, changing the ensemble to TwoGirlsToATeam.
* Ann was the only female out of the five regular characters on ''Series/TheTimeTunnel''.
* ''Series/TheUmbrellaAcademy2019'': As of Season 3, Viktor's AdaptationalGenderIdentity means that Allison is the only Hargreeves sibling to identify as female.
* The early entries of the ''Franchise/UltraSeries'' almost always had four or five male characters and one female character in the defense teams, most notably Fuji in the original ''Series/{{Ultraman}}'' and Anne from ''Series/UltraSeven''. Since these were made in the 60s and 70s, the ladies were typically BridgeBunnies (but often with a heavy dose of FairForItsDay).
* ''Series/{{Willow}}'': {{Discussed}} as we learn in "The Gales" that Jade has been admitted to be trained as a knight by the Knights of Galladorn. This is the first time they have ever accepted a female trainee in their ranks-they had made a special exception for Jade, establishing that she must be quite good.
* As her father is the headmaster, Gwen Killerby is the only girl to attend Horace Hyde White School for Boys in ''Series/TheZackFiles''.
