[[folder:''Code Geass'']]
* ''Anime/CodeGeass'':
** '''''Nina Einstein.''''' Her xenophobia and racism ([[AllThereInTheManual caused by bad experiences in a Japanese ghetto]]), her [[PsychoLesbian rather unsettling affection for Euphemia]], and [[MadScientist her role in creating the Geass-world equivalent of a nuclear bomb]] [[spoiler:resulting in the death of millions]] earned her the hatred of the fanbase. The [[FanDisservice Table-kun incident]] didn't help. Though unlike other cases, she actually [[CharacterDevelopment learned her lesson and wised up]], but it didn't change her status with the fandom. The only actual comeuppance she really gets is getting thrown in prison, and even then it's temporary.
** Typically, by the end of the series, all the fan hatred has, in an interesting meta-contrast to the ending, been shifted towards Kaname Ohgi. Initially he was able to compensate his status as TheGenericGuy in an otherwise vividly colorful cast by virtue of being the Black Knights' VoiceOfReason to the point of becoming a minor EnsembleDarkhorse. But his increasingly rash decisions and degeneration into hypocrisy towards the end of R2 (including [[spoiler:backstabbing Lelouch based on VillainsNeverLie, and functionally surrendering the ''entire world'' to Britannia in an under-the-table deal to free Japan]]) quickly plummeted him to Scrappy status. The only real consequence he faces is getting arrested and held in prison for two months, only to be freed at the faux execution of the Black Knights. And at the end of the series, he gets one of the happiest endings out of all of the cast by being HappilyMarried with Villetta Nu. He even became the ''Prime Minister of Japan'' while two of the main characters -- [[spoiler:Lelouch and Suzaku]] -- get much less ideal endings, which made him even more hated by several fans of the show. This was amplified by the knowledge that [[UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom Ohgi's actions basically led to the final arc and the particularly sad endings for Lelouch and Suzaku]], which have been a matter of controversy among various fans. Compared to what others went through because of him, his temporary imprisonment and near execution seemed a slap on the wrist [[spoiler:compared to a publicly engineered SuicideByCop and the killer being forced to live his entire life LonelyAtTheTop]].
*** Fortunately, the film continuity [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap fixes most of these issues]] by turning Ohgi [[CharacterRerailment back into the same]] OnlySaneMan at the beginning of the series, [[spoiler:begging for Lelouch to tell the truth before Schneizel's men and Rolo interfered, and punching [[SmugSnake Diethard]] for working behind the Black Knights' backs. He also feels guilty for [[DealWithTheDevil reluctantly making a deal with Schneizel]], [[StatusQuoIsGod stepped down from his position as Japan's Prime Minister]] at the start of ''Re;surrection'' (which takes place a year after the Zero Requiem), and even [[InterruptedSuicide attempted to commit suicide]] during his talk with Lelouch at Zilkhstan before the latter snapped him out of it.]]
** Ohgi's newlywed wife, Villetta Nu, also shares in the hate for [[LoveMakesYouDumb supposedly leading him astray in the first place]] and screwing Lelouch over in the most inopportune moments. This culminates in her being trusted over Lelouch leading to [[spoiler:the betrayal]] when she has no right to be, as an agent against him on behalf of Britannia (re:the Geass and him being AWOL following the Black Rebellion, even though she was the one watching over Lelouch for geass, meaning she may have very well misled them, and keeping him under surveillance during that year, making her partly responsible for the latter, and also that she was the one who incapacitated Ohgi in the first place partly due to the latter's carelessness, and Ohgi [[NeverMyFault still completely blames Lelouch for being treated as an expendable and abandoning him during that moment]]). And yet, she too shares in Ohgi's happy ending for her convenient [[HeelFaceRevolvingDoor team switch]], even though she undergoes almost ''no'' redemptive character development (aside from learning to fall in love with an Eleven) nor actually does anything for the peace. And the worst part? Unlike Nina and Ohgi, she suffers '''''[[KarmaHoudini no]]''''' consequences and [[IdiotHoudini narrowly avoids arrest]] on the grounds that she conveniently got pregnant with Ohgi's child before the FinalBattle. Meanwhile, each of the main leads had already [[spoiler:lost a love interest they both cared about, one of which started falling deeper into despair after being used by Villetta]]. It's not too strange to find fans who wished they didn't survive the waterfall incident.

[[folder:''Dragon Ball'']]
* ''Franchise/DragonBall'':
** Shin gets a lot of flak, particularly in the Japanese fandom, for being introduced as a mysterious Supreme Kai, only to come off as an incompetent wimp whose power is mostly an InformedAbility from Piccolo, and serving little purpose beyond hyping up Buu. It doesn't help that the role of Supreme Kai was poorly defined within the original story, making him feel extraneous to the setting.
** While [[Anime/DragonBallZBrolyTheLegendarySuperSaiyan Broly]] (pre-''[[Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly Super]]'') was already a BaseBreakingCharacter, his clone, [[Anime/DragonBallZBioBroly Bio-Broly]], is universally despised by even the most die hard of his fans. Viewers hate him because of his unappealing design (which many have compared to ComicBook/SwampThing on steroids, and Creator/TeamFourStar unfavorably labeled it the love-child of Swamp Thing and a [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Muk]]), being a mindless brute that only screams "Kakarot" (which was already an issue with the original Broly starting with [[Anime/DragonBallZBrolySecondComing his second appearance]]), having none of the original Broly's badass capabilities, and for his humiliating anti-climactic defeat from [[WeaksauceWeakness getting submerged in water]]. All this made ''Bio-Broly'' considered to be the worst ''Dragon Ball'' movie ([[Film/DragonballEvolution animated, that is]]), and even people who don't hate the film tend to consider him the weakest part of it. To put it in perspective just how unpopular he is, despite the regular Broly's WolverinePublicity when it comes to supplementary material, Bio-Broly rarely gets any official merchandise and he has only appeared in '''two''' video games to date since the movie's initial release in 1994, the lowest of any ''Dragon Ball Z'' movie villain.
** In the early days of the fandom, Yamcha was also widely hated because of his death at the hands of the Saibaman led to fans considering him a MemeticLoser. Jokes about Yamcha's power level being that of a Magikarp and him losing Bulma to Vegeta were rife for years, and even Creator/ChristopherSabat [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23Tsgvby5L8 snuck]] in a joke about it in ''Super''. These days Yamcha is considered RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap because fans have noted that he still amongst the strongest humans in the show, and he only fought the Saibamen to defend his friend Krillin.
* ''Anime/DragonBallGT'':
** Dolltaki, a minor antagonist from the early arcs, is one of the most unanimously disliked characters in the franchise. As a simpering weakling with no sympathetic traits, it's pretty easy to tell he was meant as a HateSink, and plot-wise, he suffers from being approximately the fourth case of TheManBehindTheMan in about as many episodes, and not the last. However, the main problem is that the writers decided to make him a comic relief villain, whose comedic trait is his obsession with dolls. Specifically, Pan, who has been turned into a doll, and specifically showing that obsession by having him constantly fondle the doll and talk about how he wants to undress it to put it in different outfits, while Pan complains about being "[[DefiledForever ruined for marriage]]." Keep in mind: Pan is ''ten years old''. Needless to say, this makes his scenes incredibly creepy and unpleasant to sit through, in an already unpopular part of the series. Many fans consider his sole redeeming scene to be the one where he gets killed by his boss.
** Super Android 17 is often regarded as the weakest major ArcVillain in the franchise, which is notable for a series where the villains tend to be very well-liked. This mainly stems from his origin and concept being completely inexplicable: his creators built a robot on par with Goku and carrying a connection to 17 that allowed them to remotely control him and open a portal to his location, with no discernible explanation for where they got the resources to do so ''[[OffscreenVillainDarkMatter while in Hell]]'', and they can fuse into a being stronger than Super Saiyan 4 Goku... somehow. He also has the shortest arc, and displays very little personality or unique traits across that arc, with him being under mind control for most of the arc and his fighting style coming across as a retread of past Androids. And being under mind control, it means 17, an already underutilized character, is effectively written out of the series in ''an arc where he's the focal character''--something that became even more widely mocked when ''Super'' managed to make 17 important in a much better-received fashion. To drive it home further, the arc [[OutOfFocus barely puts any focus on either Android 17 for quite some time,]] instead preferring to drag its feet by dedicating itself to the heroes defeating every villain in the series with little fanfare before finally getting to the main threat, meaning 17 is wasted ''even more.'' Pretty much the only positive things fans tend to say about him is that he has nice hair, [[GatlingGood Hell's Storm]] is a cool attack, and he prompted one of his sister's very few spotlight moments in that series. It doesn't help that his status as an ArcVillain ensures he'll show up whenever a game wants to make a nod to ''GT,'' and games that include ''every'' major antagonist in this series will inevitably include him as a playable character.
** ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'':
*** [[spoiler:Infinite]] Zamasu is easily his most-hated form (especially the version in the anime). Lots of fans see said form as the cheapest DiabolusExMachina in the whole franchise, and the main cause of the Future Trunks Saga's ShootTheShaggyDog ending.
*** The Kamikaze Fireballs/Maiden Squadron of Universe 2 is given a ''lot'' of hate, not only from ''Dragon Ball'' fans, but also fans of MagicalGirl series in general. Most of the hate is geared towards Brianne de Chateau/Ribrianne. Her Ribrianne form is incredibly off-putting (while Kakunsa and Rozie look reasonably normal, Ribrianne is incredibly chubby and is constantly showing off her bloomers because of her costume's design), but her attitude is the complete antithesis to what a magical girl is as she's a warrior whose idea of ThePowerOfLove is disgustingly superficial and hypocritical. Rozie seems to [[AvertedTrope avoid this]] though, and is considered an EnsembleDarkhorse.

[[folder:''[=JoJo's=] Bizarre Adventure'']]
The world of ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'' is filled with characters who are either [[EnsembleDarkHorse likable]] or {{jerkass}}es, but among them are a [[TheScrappy select few]] who either blur the line between both character types, or prove a little ''too'' good at being {{Hate Sink}}s.
----
* ''[[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureStardustCrusaders Stardust Crusaders]]'':
** Anne Merlai the Runaway Girl, despite only appearing in the early arcs, was heavily disliked by readers of the manga because of how frequently she got the Joestar team into trouble with DIO's henchmen and didn't really do anything useful for the group[[note]]Of the four Stand Users the group faced while she was with the group, the only one she didn't end up hindering the team with was Rubber Soul, whereas the other three -- "Captain Tennille", Forever and ZZ -- she had to be saved from by Jotaro[[/note]]. It was somewhat alleviated when Joseph brought her a plane ticket back home and she was removed from the story, and when the anime eventually came, the viewers came to [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap warm up to Anne somewhat]] after she received a more heartfelt send-off from both Joseph and Jotaro.
** Alessi is a strong contender for the most universally hated character in Part 3, and possibly all of ''[=JoJo=]''. As a creepy ChildHater who [[FountainOfYouth turns his victims into kids]] before [[WouldHurtAChild attempting to murder them with an axe]] and who lacks any redeeming qualities, he is definitely intended to be a HateSink. However, the fight against him is too full of uncomfortable and {{Squick}}y moments -- mainly thanks to Polnareff spending most of it as a naked kid -- to be enjoyable for most people, so he fails to garner the LoveToHate reaction that such a character is supposed to elicit during the brief time he's there. Alessi also gets hatred for [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot perceived missed potential]], as he never uses his powers on (or even gets to interact with) Joseph, a character whom [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureBattleTendency the audience knows to have been a great fighter in his youth]] and thus would have been the perfect member of the group to outwit and defeat him. Thankfully, Alessi is also a PlotIrrelevantVillain who's entirely contained within a single story arc, so those who can't stand him can easily skip over him without missing anything. His appearance in the [[VideoGame/JoJosBizarreAdventureHeritageForTheFuture Capcom fighting game]] did see him RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap a bit by using his Stand as a way to give kid designs to most of the cast and show off some {{Mythology Gag}}s, and finally delivering on the Joseph/Alessi dream match, but it really just further accentuates how disappointing and unpleasant his actual arc was.
* ''[[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureDiamondIsUnbreakable Diamond is Unbreakable]]'':
** Tamami Kobayashi gets a lot of hate due to the hell he put Koichi and his family through in trying to rip them off, the FridgeHorror that he has driven people to suicide with his Stand's ability, his rather flimsy HeelFaceTurn, and being EasilyForgiven.
** Toshikazu Hazamada is disliked for being a [[ThisLoserIsYou negative depiction of Otaku]], his outright sociopathic behavior -- namely, gouging out his friend's eye after getting into an argument over a pop idol, and Rohan revealing that he wanted to rape a classmate of his -- and like Tamami, being way too EasilyForgiven.
* ''[[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureStoneOcean Stone Ocean]]'': While ''Stone Ocean'' often comes under fire for its lack of compelling minor villains, some are especially disliked by fans.
** D an G's Stand, Yo-Yo Ma, who is often put up there with Arabia Fats as having one of the least interesting fights in the series. A lot of the dislike comes from the fact that the pacifist nature of Yo-Yo Ma prevents the fight from going anywhere and the arc ends up getting repetitive.
** Likewise, the Stand User fought before him, Kenzō, and his Stand, Dragon's Dream, are also extremely hated by the fans. Despite the fact that you're ''supposed'' to [[HateSink hate Kenzō]] because he's [[CompleteMonster human garbage]], most of the hate stems from his battle against Foo Fighters being a boring fight that ends up feeling like a complete waste of time. It doesn't help that his Stand's ability isn't that impressive, and at the start of the battle, Anasui explains the ability to Jolyne -- and the readers -- making it look more of an introduction to a new concept than a real fight. In fact, it would be [[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway an outright]] ''[[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway liability]]'' if he weren't already an expert martial artist.
----
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Others A-M]]
* ''Manga/SazanEyes'': Haan. He spends most of the series feeling out of place (being TheRival of Yakumo, an uncommonly uncompetitive and cool headed hero for a shonen manga), and once he finally finds his place he is already dead. From then on, we are treated to his clone, his corpse, and the CloneAngst that follow.
* ''Anime/NinetyOneDays'': Frate Vanetti. While he's by no means the most evil character in the story, many viewers hate him due the ease with which he attempted to sacrifice his older brother out of a desire to avenge his personal grievances.
* ''Anime/{{Aggretsuko}}'': Puko is a difficult character to like, as the same speech where she tries lifting up Retsuko's lifestyle is the same where she contrasts her easygoing lifestyle as being one reliant on other people rubs people the wrong way. Even when her slacking eventually caught up with her in season two, she still finds ways to burden her friend, such as forcing her to move the contents of her headquarters up four flights of stairs because she was too cheap to hire movers.
* ''Manga/AkameGaKill'': Prime Minister Honest. He's the BigBad in the series, which is surprisingly easy to forget about. This wouldn't be bad enough to label him this trope, if only he weren't one of the single most [[{{Narm}} narmy]] villains people could think of. Every single scene with him has him straddling the MoralEventHorizon in some way, yet he comes across as nothing more than an annoying, over-the-top and flat BigBadWannabe. In a fictional example of XPacHeat, instead of viewers wanting to see him get his comeuppance, they view him as a waste of time at the expense of other, mostly more popular antagonists and want him to go away.
* ''Manga/AssassinationClassroom'': [[AbusiveParents Hiromi Shiota]], Nagisa's mother, was instantly hated by the fans when she was introduced in [[spoiler: Chapter 112. She uses Nagisa to live her life anew, denies him control over his own future so as to not make the mistakes she made, refuses to acknowledge his gender, and immediately goes into a rage when he makes any sort of defiance against her.]] The next few chapters with her show just how deluded she is about the whole thing. She's so detestable that she would easily qualify as a HateSink instead of The Scrappy, if not for the way Nagisa [[HonorThyAbuser handled things in the end]], making her a massive case of KarmaHoudini and EasilyForgiven, so it's unclear if she was actually intended to be hated as intensely as she is. While she did mellow out after her introductory arc, it's hard to forgive how she treated Nagisa and the fact that she [[spoiler: attempted arson]].
* ''Literature/BakaAndTestSummonTheBeasts'':
** Mizuki Himeji. Receives the most attention from the main character, but is generic and mildly notorious at her best and [[{{Yandere}} terrifyingly psychotic]] at her worst. There's something wrong when her most prominent role is to routinely put people on the edge of death with her [[LethalChef attempts at cooking]].
** How about [[ClingyJealousGirl Shouko Kirishima]]? She abuses Yuuji numerous ways, including chaining him to her with a pillory, tazing him, poking his eyes out when he even takes so much as a glance at other girls (and [[DudeLooksLikeALady Hideyoshi]]), and tries to force him into a marriage. Not only are all Yuuji's friends totally okay with this, [[ShipperOnDeck they actively try to get the two together]]. It doesn't help that she is quite possibly the biggest KarmaHoudini in the series; when she looks like she might finally get some comeuppance, she always comes out smelling like a rose. Notable in that her backstory does not [[FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse excuse her actions at all]].
** [[PsychoLesbian Miharu Shimizu]] is not only loathed for being absolutely insane when it comes to Minami, and almost always showing up to reaffirm her One-Sided Affection. [[spoiler:She is also the pseudo-antagonist of the 2nd season arc where she sets Akihisa and Yuuji up by scapegoating them for peeping into the girl's baths and making Minami and Himeji rather unlikable by pretty much turning them into BitchInSheepsClothing Material. Matters are made worse when she gets [[KarmaHoudini no comeuppance]] for this incident and a hypocritical ReasonYouSuckSpeech to Akihisa about how he treats Minami]].
* ''Manga/BakiTheGrappler'': BigBad Yujiro Hanma himself is pretty despised (and not in a LoveToHate way) by quite a few fans for being such an InvincibleVillain -- and him also being such a cruel {{Jerkass}} (especially to his own wife and son) certainly doesn't help, either. [[spoiler:Even more so when he ultimately remains a KarmaHoudini after his final battle with Baki and consequently cements HardWorkHardlyWorks as a major theme, which has just caused some fans to outright jump ship out of sheer TooBleakStoppedCaring. Until he met Miyamoto Musashi who managed to make Yujiro '''bleed'''.]]
** Check most online forums and you'll find that many people aren't fond of Katsumi either. This stems mostly from his early incarnation as an ArrogantKungFuGuy who near-effortlessly beats more fan-favorite characters, such as Hanayama, only to end up [[TheWorfEffect getting his ass handed to him]] inevitably.
* An unnamed middle school boy from ''Literature/{{Bakemonogatari}}'' only appears on-screen for about [[OneSceneWonder five minutes]], and yet the fandom LOATHES him. Although when you consider he [[spoiler:cursed Nadeko Sengoku, nearly killing her, over something as petty as a rejection]] and [[spoiler:tried to beat [[EnsembleDarkhorse Kaiki]] to death with a baseball bat [[InsaneTrollLogic because being the source of the cursing charms apparently means he's the one at fault when they are used improperly]]]]. It didn't help that this moment followed [[spoiler:Kaiki's]] CharacterDevelopment and was seen as a pointless ShootTheShaggyDog by the fans.
* ''Manga/{{Bakuman}}'':
** Takuro Nakai. Initially well-received by the fanbase because of his continuing determination to get serialized despite consistent failure in the past, Nakai lost any love from the majority of the readers when a little success went to his head and he began behaving like a complete JerkAss towards his former friend Aoki Ko, trying to pressure her into being his girlfriend when she needed his help. After leaving for a while, he's come back in an even harder to like position, as an assistant to the SmugSnake Nanamine who is extremely rude to the other assistants unless they're cute girls and doesn't seem to care about much except for the free space and pizza Nanamine is providing him with. There are still little glimmers of the nicer guy he used to be underneath the self-pitying JerkAss, especially when he gets back on the road to working toward his dream as [[spoiler:Hiramaru's assistant]]. Until the mandatory redemption, this was probably an IntendedAudienceReaction, but said redemption did in the end not waver many.
** Another series scrappy is Miura, Takagi and Mashiro's second editor; unlike the wise and talented Hattori, an EnsembleDarkhorse, Miura is new, inexperienced, and not very good at what he does while Takagi and Mashiro are working with him. While he's worked to improve himself, his first impression as an incompetent ReplacementScrappy to such a popular character earned him a lot of hate, presumably influencing [[spoiler:Hattori returning to being Ashirogi Muto's editor for PCP]].
** [[{{Bishonen}} Shun Shiratori]], a rather spoiled would-have-been [[TheWoobie woobie]] who was the cause of a second breaking up of the lead team [[spoiler:or so it would seem]]. The creators may have caught on with this one, because past his arc, the character is never seen or heard from again, unless one counts the hand wave cancellation of his series.
* ''Anime/{{Basquash}}'': Rouge for a lot of reasons, most notably her shoving fan-favorite Miyuki to the background, her being the focus of several episodes in the form of a brainwashing arc that went nowhere and her romantic arc with Dan seriously reeking of a rip-off of the ''Anime/{{Macross}}'' "protagonist dates IdolSinger" plotline that's been done one time too many (besides the usual RomanticPlotTumor trappings). Even Thomas Romain spoke out against the character, claiming she was never really meant to be anything more than one of Dan's friends and that the romance arc apparently got tacked on in the {{Retool}} of the show from a "fighting injustice" type of show to the "saving the world" plot it underwent in it's second half.
* ''Anime/BattleOfThePlanets'': 7-Zark-7 is hated violently by even die-hard fans. Actually a Western addition, since a change was rendered necessary by Moral Guardians when its parent anime was translated.
* ''Manga/TheBeautifulSkiesOfHououHigh'': Kei's mother's obsessive desire for grandchildren, and the lengths she would go for it, resulted in her being widely hated, even by fans of the series.
* ''Anime/BenTo'':
** ClassRepresentative Ume is intensely unpopular among fans of the show because she's a bland PsychoLesbian archetype who harasses and abuses Satou for utterly ridiculous reasons.
** Orthros (Kyo & Kyo Sawagi), because how incredibly overpowered they are. It's not that the Worf Effect was in well, full effect, but that they curb stomped the much-loved Yarizui, and as a result, she does nothing in the series' climax.
* ''Manga/{{Berserk}}'': Nina, the young prostitute and secret pagan cultist of the Conviction arc. Many hate her for being a DirtyCoward, [[KickTheMoralityPet for the way she treated Joachim]] and for being completely useless to people who are protective of her, while she is too selfish and scared to help them back. She is written as very aware of her faults and really trying to help, and has very good reasons to be afraid (among them the nightmare-inducing torture chamber she gets led into at one point). But it's handled ''very'' poorly by the writers.
* ''Anime/BeybladeMetalFusion'': Team Garcia, for mixing CombatPragmatist with DirtyCoward. Not even their backstory, which averts HeartwarmingOrphan, is enough to earn them a pass for most of the fanbase.
** To some, it's the fact that they tried to pull off the HeartwarmingOrphan routine to justify their acts. Because having a sympathetic backstory is supposed to make you instantly forgivable, right?
** And among the whole group, Enzo stands out due to bratty personality and the nerve-grating "[[CatchPhrase Amazing, huh?]]"
* ''Manga/BlackClover'':
** Sylph is disliked by ''many'' fans for her clinginess to Yuno, constant talking whenever she appears, and tendency to mock anyone who isn't Yuno. Tabata lampshades this InUniverse, with Langris calling her "the noisy spirit that's always with [Yuno]".
** The anime-exclusive character, Dazu has earned nothing but scorn from fans despite being meant to be a TragicVillain with sympathetic motives. Upon closer examination of her actions and motives, ''everything'' about her falls apart. She has the FreudianExcuse of not having much magic power and people looking down on her for it but Asta wasn't born with any magic either and unlike Dazu and her group, Asta worked hard to become stronger and become a Magic Knight rather than take his frustrations out on the world in completely unproductive ways such as kidnapping or murder. She hates the Magic Knights for being [[AristocratsAreEvil elitist and oppressive]] but the particular Magic Knights she went after, including Asta and Nero, are some of the least elitist people in the series and ''want'' to make changes to the system. To make matters worse, she becomes an on-screen KarmaHoudini who gets to walk after all the trouble she caused and doesn't learn anything from the entire arc. The end result is that Dazu, along with her followers, come off as extremely [[UnintentionallyUnsympathetic unlikable and unsympathetic despite being given some humanizing qualities]] and it's not uncommon to see fans wish that they ''do'' make it to the Spade Kingdom so the Dark Triad can hopefully give Dazu the [[SarcasmMode warmest of welcomes]] and the well-deserved comeuppance she never got on-screen.
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'':
** Kaname Tousen is hated for many reasons, first and foremost, for being a total hypocrite who betrays Soul Society for extremely flimsy reasons: wanting to walk the path of the least bloodshed toward peace... by siding with the egomaniacal traitor whose entire plan revolves around starting a bloody war and who is perfectly fine with murdering his own allies just because they're of no use to him anymore. Another reason fans hate him is for initially being the blind man in the BlindAndTheBeast with Komamura, then insulting by calling Komamura ugly to his face the second he regains his sight. He's also hated for holding one of the most blatant examples of the IdiotBall in the series history in his fight with Kenpachi, where he traps Kenpachi in his sensory deprivation Bankai, then just stands around taunting and lecturing him (which, as noted, Kenpachi ''can't hear'' anymore) instead of just finishing him off, which he ends up losing the fight because of.
** The Modsoul trio of Ririn, Noba, and Kurōdo were reviled during their debut in the Bount Arc for their individual traits. Ririn's sometimes loud and arrogant, Noba's too shy, and Kurôdo talks too much for the audience's taste. By the end of the Bount Arc they were not only reduced to comic relief, but allowed to leak into the canon material of the Arrancar Arc, quickly increasing their earlier hate.
** In the The New Captain Shūsuke Amagai FillerArc, Rurichiyo Kasumiōji is a spoiled brat of a rich kid who's prone to being kidnapped just to keep her unpopular Filler arc going. Fans also find her Third-Person Person quirk annoying to listen to, and just plain don't like how useless she was in said arc.
** In the Gotei 13 Invading Army FillerArc, Nozomi's existence was justified by rewriting canon character backgrounds, stealing unique canon abilities, reducing Rukia and Orihime to bit-roles that consisted solely of shilling her, removing Ichigo as TheProtagonist to turn Kon into her LoveInterest, and making her more powerful than even [[StoryBreakerPower Yamamoto]].
* ''Anime/BlueCometSPTLayzner'': Arthur, who has clearly mistaken abject stupidity for comic relief. He becomes ''slightly'' more bearable in the 1999 arc, if only because, as a now-chubby member of the elite who ineffectually tries to collaborate with his friends in LaResistance, he's in the show much less.
* ''Manga/BlueLock'': Wataru Kuon fans can be counted on one hand given that his biggest role in the story was [[spoiler: selling his team out to their opponents so they would let him score enough goals to be exempt from elimination even if they lost.]] Although the audience was clearly [[ArcVillain meant to dislike him]] for this, what puts him into this status is his supposed redemption; [[spoiler:getting a red card after deciding at the last possible second to actually help his team after refusing to play the whole match]], [[UnintentionallyUnsympathetic which did little if anything to actually redeem him]] to most readers.
* ''Manga/CaptainTsubasa'': The Street Team from ''Captain Tsubasa J'', especially the PSX adaptation video game. Not only that they are a whole team, not just a character, of {{Canon Foreigner}}s, but their super shots in the game are almot unstoppable even by Wakashimazu (the best available goalkeeper at the time), let alone by Morisaki in the second match. And yes, you had to play against them twice. If that's not bad enough, they wear black uniform and their super shots are all evil-themed (skull, demon, snake, etc), as if to show that they are, well, evil. Considering that Captain Tsubasa is a sport series, their mere existence is just hilariously narmy and unnecessary BigLippedAlligatorMoment.
* ''Manga/CaseClosed'':
** Sonoko Suzuki has her fair share of haters, who accused her of being a RichBitch who is selfish, perverted, and arrogant to the point where she makes Shinichi look humble.
** For the love of god, INSPECTOR YAMAMURA. Yamamoron (as he's nicknamed by fans of the show) is so incompetent that he manages to make KOGORO seem like an excellent detective in comparison. Not helping matters is the fact that he refused to acknowledge Conan's genius in his debut episode, and that he's commonly featured in filler cases outside of the Tokyo area (at the expense of the [[EnsembleDarkhorse Nagano Trio: Yamato, Morofushi, and Uehara]]).
* ''Anime/CrossAnge'': Alektra "Jill" Maria von Loewenherz gained quite a bit of a negative reception for her actions, such as doing a painful [[AssShove cavity search]] on Ange in the first episode, then pulling off a really huge IdiotBall moment by sending her out into the front lines when she just wanted to escape, resulting in a number of deaths. Then when Ange attempted to ally with the [[OurDragonsAreDifferent DRAGONs]], Jill revealed her GeneralRipper tendencies as she expressed her desire to use Ange's newfound allies as CannonFodder, then threatened to kill Momoka if Ange didn't surrender and fall in line. By the time "[[Recap/CrossAngeEp18ConclusiveOcean Conclusive Ocean]]" aired, [[TakeThatScrappy fans were cheering as Ange finally beat Jill senseless and had her arrested for her actions]].
* ''Anime/DarkerThanBlack'': Norio, for being a {{w|angst}}hiny, semi-delusional and just generally annoying paedophile stalker PlayedForLaughs and [[StalkingIsLove (attempted) sympathy]] who gets hit with NotBadassEnoughForFans ''hard''. This is even lampshaded by the voice actors in the Darker than Black radio.
* ''Literature/DateALive'': [[ThoseTwoGuys Ai, Mai and Mii]] -- but ''especially'' Mii. Their only purpose so far has been an unfunny RunningGag where they interpret Shido's (and sometimes other people's) actions in the worst way possible, and fans find Mii's constant [[CatchPhrase "gross"]] (changed to "That's so lame" in the Creator/{{FUNimation}} dub) -- her ''only line'' -- to be incredibly grating and unfair to [[TheHero Shido]].
* ''Manga/DeathNote'': Kiyomi Takada. Whenever fans talk about her, it's either that she was a [[InformedAbility informed intelligent]] fool who easily fell for Light's charms or a stuck up jerk, particularly on how she treated Misa. She even gets plenty of flak from fangirls who swore to exact their revenge on her for [[spoiler:killing [[DracoInLeatherPants Mello]] - though it's hard to imagine a worse fate for her than the one that actually transpired]].
* ''Manga/DeadmanWonderland'': The anime-exclusive villain Keigo Ugachi, and to a lesser extent, his gang, Goreless Peace, is derided for being a painfully unimpressive villain, a somewhat generic antagonist in a series known for its absurdity. Coupled that with his somewhat flimsy-at-best motives, a [[AntiClimaxBoss disappointing final fight]], and [[PlotDrivenBreakdown underwhelming powers]], and the fact that he would take up screentime from the ''far'' more popular [[EnsembleDarkhorse Ikazuchi Akatsuki]], who has one of [[spoiler: the most emotionally charged fights in the series with Senji]], people often wonder what the point of the story was.
* ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02'': You won't find many people who'll defend Shakkoumon. They mainly cite his strange design[[note]]He's based off of a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogū Dogu]] statue[[/note]] and how he looks nothing like Ankylomon or Angemon despite being a fusion of the two as their main reasons for not liking him, often calling him a "teapot", among other things.
* ''Anime/DigimonAdventureTri'' has Yggdrasill/[[DubNameChange King Drasil]], the main villain. This is [[Anime/DigimonXEvolution hardly]] [[Anime/DigimonDataSquad his]] [[Manga/DigimonNext first]] [[VideoGame/DigimonStoryCyberSleuth incarnation]], and he's already a BaseBreakingCharacter for his increasing prominence as an antagonist, but ''tri's'' version of him is easily considered the absolute worst of his appearances. Not only is the character [[GenericDoomsdayVillain incredibly poorly-defined]] as a consequence of [[TheGhost never properly appearing onscreen]] and preferring the [[EvilDoppelganger Mysterious Man/Dark Gennai]] to do all the work, but the motivation he does receive comes across as complete nonsense. He wants to protect the Digital World from evil humans... when every recent threat the Digital World has faced resulted from evil Digimon, and most of them were thwarted by good humans. It leads you to wonder [[RememberTheNewGuy where he was when the likes of Devimon, Etemon, Myotismon, the Dark Masters, Millenniummon, Diaboromon and the Daemon Corps were running amok]], let alone actual human villains like Ken and Oikawa who were manipulated by Myotismon anyway. It doesn't help that Yggdrasil's plan, which involves reviving all of the dead Digimon, ''[[{{Hypocrite}} also includes the aforementioned villains]]''. Furthermore, he's in competition with other villains (both the leftover ones from the original series, and the new-blood villains ''tri'' established), [[SpotlightStealingSquad pulling away their screentime and relevance]] in favor of [[GenericDoomsdayVillain this boring jerk]] and also removing any suspense from his own agent. In the Mysterious Man's case, it tricks the viewer into thinking that either Ken is the Digimon Emperor again, or that Gennai suddenly turned on everyone, before [[HijackedByGanon revealing that he served Yggdrasil all along]]. He's also a RecycledScript of his ''Data Squad'' incarnation, who was already divisive but at least ''some'' reasons to dislike humanity, seeing what [[OmnicidalManiac Akihiro Kurata]] was capable of by himself. Speaking of past incarnations, [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter he's also stripped of all of his lore elements]]; the Royal Knights that serve him don't exist as a group in this continuity, and none of their members serve him aside from a [[AdaptationalVillainy very different Alphamon]], meaning he doesn't even have the benefit of faithfully representing the Digital World's ruler.[[note]]Gankoomon and Hackmon also appear in ''Adventure's'' PSP adaptation, and ''are'' actually the Gankoomon and Jesmon of the Royal Knights, further compounding the issue.[[/note]] And to cap it off, he gets taken down offscreen by Homeostasis, so there isn't even [[LoveToHate any satisfaction]] out of him finally being defeated. Bottom line, ''tri.'' Yggdrasil was easily the weakest villain in the franchise and many agree that his presence was not needed.
* ''Anime/DigimonUniverseAppMonsters'':
** Watson is rather disliked for being an annoying character who doesn't really do or add anything to the series.
** Astra is also heavily disliked due to his catchphrase, which became annoying after repeating it one too many times, and his [=YouTuber=] personality that was just considered grating and obnoxious. Eri also had a catchphrase, but she used it less and less as the series went on, so it wasn't as in your face. Astra on the other hand...
* ''Anime/DigimonXrosWarsTheYoungHuntersWhoLeaptThroughTime'':
** Did you think the hatred for [[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 Daisuke]] was bad? You've seen nothing compared to the sheer level of loathing that Tagiru gets from some fans to the point of being one of the most hated protagonists in ''Digimon'' history, for quite a few reasons. The highlights (if you can even call it that) include his incredibly selfish motivation, unchanging character and constant spotlight hogging (which both result in nobody else apart from characters of the day gaining character development), [[PlotArmor how everything seems to go in his favor in the end]], [[IdiotHero his unbelievable degrees of idiocy]], and worst of all being that he gets to fight the final battle alone on top of being the only one to have a proper goodbye [[spoiler:and reunion]] with his Partner Digimon.
** Betsumon appears to attract a lot of hate from fans who find him just plain irritating.
* ''Manga/DoctorSlump'': Tsun Tsuruten. He can best be described as a heavily Flanderized version of Senbei, but with none of the traits that made him an entertaining character. He is shown to perv on his wife and even his daughter, and can be a ToxicFriendInfluence to Senbei when he tried to revert from his perverted behavior after marrying Midori.
* ''Anime/{{Durarara}}'':
** Saki. Many people think that she destroyed the PowerTrio dynamic with Mikado, Anri and Masaomi to the point that [[spoiler:Masaomi left Ikebukuro with her and fails to communicate with the other two as time goes on.]]
** Seiji, Namie and [[spoiler: Mika]] also qualify; fans consider them insane, even by Narita's standards, and even after [[spoiler: their subplot was rendered completely pointless]] ''they wouldn't stop showing up''. Namie gets more {{Scrappy}} points to many Shizaya fans for "being in the way of their relationship."
*** Namie and Mika's scrappy-status is, for the most part, only among anime fans, but this rings ''especially'' true for Seiji in the novels. Most people can't understand why so many people like him, because he's very dull and kind of...weird. Mika and Namie aren't as disliked for this by the novel fan, because Namie still has her role as Izaya's secretary, and Mika's been getting more love due to the revelation that [[spoiler:there's much more to her than what meets the eye]].
* ''Manga/ElfenLied'': Yuka, due to the fact that she is in love with her cousin (which isn't a huge deal in Japan, but is [[ValuesDissonance considered gross in America]]) and physically beats him up for no reason. Plus the fact that she goes into {{Wangst}} over things which are [[AngstDissonance comparatively minor]], in contrast to almost everyone else on the show - even when you have positive traits, being selfish in contrast to the other members of the cast is ''not'' the way to go with a character... Though at least Lucy's MoralEventHorizon crossing ''wasn't her fault at all''.
* Most fans of ''Eiken'' dislike Komoe for her {{squick}}y character concept (an elementary school student with ''very'' large boobs). There are many people who refuse to watch/read it ''because'' they're so grossed out by her.
* ''Anime/EurekaSeven'':
** Eureka's adopted kids, Linck in particular. They cry in almost all of their appearances, are completely spoiled, and their continual cries of "Mama!" can become annoying in the series. Maurice shows his Scrappy colors later on, when they're lost [[spoiler:on Earth]]. "Only love me, mama! No one else!" And then Renton and Eureka just have to go and be so damn ''understanding'' about it.
** Holland's general treatment of Renton during the first half of the series is downright brutal at times. The fact he uses Renton as a punching bag on multiple occasions, basically taking out his own inadequacies on a kid, and that he [[spoiler:used to date Renton's sister and even recognized Renton as her younger sibling]] only adds insult to literal injury... More than enough to be loathed by many fans. By the second half of the series, however, he gets RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap thanks to him accepting the fact that Renton is TheChosenOne and eventually reconciling with him.
** Most of the Gekkostate members get this treatment due to their cruel mistreatment of Renton, [[EnsembleDarkhorse Moondoggie]] and Talho (After she TookALevelInKindness and began [[TakeThatScrappy calling Holland out]]) being some of the few exceptions.
** In the sequel ''Anime/EurekaSevenAo'': Truth is this for being an OutsideContextProblem with ComboPlatterPowers in a series where there is no superpowers. at all. Not to mention his randomly killing people and other things. Ironically, Archetype!Truth is looked upon more favorably and the lack of focus on him is considered a case of TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot.
* ''Anime/FairyMusketeers'': Viewers almost unanimously hate [[TheHeart Ringo]]. Her [[ClingyJealousGirl negative traits]] are even pointed out in the show, when her friends in her own world note how [[TsunDere harsh she is toward her friends]]. When everyone else begins to trust [[TheWoobie Gretel]], Ringo is, not surprisingly the only one against it, angrily at that. One episode even goes out of it's way to make her see that she's [[TheLoad dead weight]]. Her aggressive personality isn't too surprising, considering she's voiced by Creator/RieKugimiya.
* ''Anime/FairyTail'':
** Samuel, from the ''Key of the Starry Sky'' filler arc, for being an InsufferableGenius and smugly looking down on Fairy Tail. For all his supposed intelligence, he never seemed to grasp that antagonizing [[BadassCrew Fairy Tail]] was a really bad move. He becomes slightly tolerable after Pantherlily kicks his ass although immediately leaping to the conclusion that Lucy had to die to stop the Infinity Clock didn't help his perception.
** Avatar for being taken out so hilariously quickly so as to be seen as a waste of time. The fact Mashima attempts to [[JustifiedTrope justify]] this in-universe later on by revealing that Arlock intentionally led the rest of Avatar to their deaths did ''not'' help with this perception.
* ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar'': Of the major martial artists, [[CreepyCrossdresser Juda]] probably gets the least amount of love. Reasons for this include being a [[AgentPeacock vain]] [[CreepyCrossdresser cross-dressing]] [[EffeminateMisogynisticGuy serial]] [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil rapist]], having a pathetic FreudianExcuse (he was jealous of [[TheLancer Rei's]] martial art being more beautiful than is own), and lacking any personality traits like [[WellIntentionedExtremist Raoh]] and [[AntiVillain Ryuga's]] NobleDemon qualities, [[RivalTurnedEvil Shin]] and [[TroubledAbuser Thouzer's]] TragicVillain appeal, or [[ManipulativeBastard Jagi]] and [[MadDoctor Amiba's]] AwesomeEgo trappings. The fact that [[BlowYouAway his]] [[RazorWind martial art]] is one of the series' less realistic ones (which is really saying something) does not help his cause either.
* ''Anime/FlyMeToTheMoon'': Chitose, and to a lesser extent, her maids too, for constantly getting in the way of Nasa and Tsukasa and trying to break them apart in order to have her adoptive sister all to herself. To say that the fans enjoy any chapters devoid of her presence is an understatement.
* ''Manga/FoodWars'':
** Asahi Saiba gets a lot of hate from virtually everyone. He is [[EntitledToHaveYou obsessed with possessing Erina Nakiri at any cost]]. He is a [[SmugSuper bad case]] of an ArrogantKungFuGuy and deeply resents Soma just for being Joichiro's only biological son. He doesn't have any [[FlatCharacter compelling personality trait or conviction]] and his [[DarkAndTroubledPast tragic orphan past]] is seen as a license to be a {{Jerkass}}. His Cross Knives ability is far too implausible and flawless to exist because it allows him to instantly master and combine the styles of many master chefs as well as easily surpass them without any real practice. Also he can easily defeat characters who were previously established as consummate chefs ([[spoiler:Joichiro and Eishi]]), making him an InvincibleVillain. The fact that he is easily [[KarmaHoudini let off]] after all he has done, only makes things sour.
** Courage and Decora, the two World Gourmet Organization examiners whom the BigBad brings in to serve as judges for the final bouts of the Régiment de Cuisine. Not only do they [[ReplacementScrappy replace the better-liked judges, Histoire and Charme]], despite being members of a prestigious organization, they [[ALadyOnEachArm are completely wrapped around the villain]]. The fact they are more visually sexualized than any other judge preceding them makes the two come across as nothing but {{Fanservice}} without offering any particularly new insight.
** Mana, the Bookmaster of the World Gourmet Organization and overseer of the BLUE tournament: similar to the final ArcVillain, this character had a bland, neurotic personality, whose relationship with Erina elevated her already SpotlightStealingSquad status since the Central saga, thereby pushing the latter a head above Soma, whom the narrative was originally focused on. The fact that the Bookmaster was introduced into the last StoryArc a few chapters before the series' climax didn't sit well with readers.
* [[HeManWomanHater Louis El Bridget]] from ''Manga/{{Freezing}}'' is, without a doubt, among the manga's most hated characters. He regularly abused and molested his half-sister Satella, causing her to develop [[HatesBeingTouched a crippling phobia of being touched]] and kick-starting a great majority of her issues. It was bad enough that, since he couldn't have his way with Satella anymore, he molested and raped his own Pandora [[JerkassWoobie Holly Rose]] because she looked like his half-sister. And the hatred for him only solidified during the Bali arc, in which he tried to make Satella come back to him, and gave [[NiceGuy Kazuya]] a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown when he stood up to Satella, not to mention treated poor Holly Rose like garbage. [[spoiler:The fact that he was EasilyForgiven by Satella and had a HeelFaceTurn after pulling a NoOneCouldSurviveThat didn't help.]]
* ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist:'' Noah from TheMovie of the first anime, ''[[Anime/FullmetalAlchemistTheConquerorOfShamballa Conqueror of Shamballa]]'', is pretty disliked. It's fairly telling that she was heavily teased as a possible love interest for Ed, and yet everyone ships him with [[HoYay Alfons Heiderich]] instead.
* ''Manga/FushigiYuugi'': The main characters can come across as this to some viewers.
** Miaka. While the manga portrays her in a more realistic manner, the anime adaptation made her come across as having IncorruptiblePurePureness, which immensely turned off viewers. In both mediums, she is hated for being a [[DamselScrappy distressed damsel]] who [[MartyrWithoutACause constantly gets herself and others in trouble]] and screaming for [[SayMyName Tamahome to rescue her constantly.]]
** And on the Seriyu side, we have Yui, Miaka's EvilCounterpart. Her tendency to cling to the JerkassBall and believe everything [[ManipulativeBastard Nakago]] tells her despite [[InformedAbility supposedly being intelligent]] did not win her ''any'' points with viewers. The fact that she was also willing to break off her years long friendship with Miaka over a guy she had ''just met'' and drug and kidnap said guy into loving her did not help.
** While Miaka and Yui both [[BaseBreakingCharacter still have their fans]], you'll be hard pressed to find any for Mayo, the protagonist of the ''Eikouden'' continuation. As a DesignatedHero / VillainProtagonist / KarmaHoudini combo, she nearly destroys the world of the Four Gods through her selfish actions and yet is ''thanked'' for her non-existent kindness by the very people whose lives she was trying to ruin/end.
* ''Anime/GakuenBabysitters'': A large number of people find Yagi's behaviour towards the children off-putting, especially anime-only viewers (the manga at least attempts to explain why he genuinely likes children but still does a poor job at justifying the creepy pedo jokes the author's fond of).
* ''Anime/GetBackers'': Even without a name, [[EveryoneCallsHimBarKeep High School Girl]] was a {{Filler}} character who was demanding and dislikable.
* ''Manga/GirlsBravo'': Kazuharu Fukuyama, an obnoxious pervert with no character development, compared to his superior sister. Even WebVideo/TheCartoonHero picked him over her to be in his Top 10 Most Hated Animated Characters list.
* ''Anime/GraveOfTheFireflies'': Seita's aunt is despised for being an abusive {{Jerkass}} to him and his sister even though they lost their parents, enough that Seita runs away from her home with his sister and refuses to return, which results in [[spoiler:both of them starving to death on the streets]]. While all this would make for a seemingly intentional HateSink, [[spoiler:Seita is portrayed as being in the wrong for not swallowing his pride and returning to his aunt for the sake of survival]]. The HardTruthAesop was just a bit too much for some viewers to swallow, who instead saw Seita as a massive {{Woobie}} and his aunt as unforgivable scum. It was to the point that she [[https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2012/05/10-1/poll-japanese-fans-name-animes-most-unforgivable-characters won third place in a Japanese poll of the most unforgivable anime characters]], only beaten out by ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica''[='=]s Kyubey and ''VisualNovel/SchoolDays''[='=] Makoto Itou.
* ''Anime/GreenGreen'': The Baka Trio often get hit with this due to many people finding their perverted antics annoying and unfunny. It doesn't help that the anime seems to be more devoted to these antics instead of developing the main casts as a whole.
* ''Anime/GuiltyCrown'':
** Souta turns into this after his stupidity [[spoiler:gets Hare killed]].
** Arisa and some students after [[spoiler:they stabbed Shu in the back]]. After he succeeds in breaking them out of the enclosing wall that would have doomed the city.
* ''Manga/{{Gyo}}'': Kaori due to how annoyingly whiny she is, along with her complaining well before anything bad has even happened. She's also responsible for causing the death of Ms. Yoshiyama when she chases her outside into range of the infected professor, out of apparent jealousy. Tadashi is apparently OK with this, too.
* ''Manga/HajimeNoIppo'':
** [[TheRival Ichiro Miyata]], mostly due to the accusation that he became a one-man SpotlightStealingSquad during his endlessly long fight with Randy Boy Jr.
** Surprisingly, Ippo's love interest Kumi Mashiba has ''escaped'' DieForOurShip and/or RealWomenNeverWearDresses based bashing, even from [[YaoiFangirl the yaoi corner]]...
** Manabu Itakagi gets a lot of hate for being incredibly [[{{Pride}} cocky]].
* ''Anime/{{Hamtaro}}'': While Lapis and Lazuli have cute designs, most of the show's SeasonalRot is directly attributed to them and Sweet Paradise to the point that they took over a majority of the show following their first appearances. They had to be dialed back significantly for the show to regain its slice-of-life elements.
* ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'':
** Chibitalia and Holy Roman Empire, being the epitome of SweetnessAversion and having gotten quite the screentime in the anime, have garnered their fair share of haters throughout the run of Hetalia. Some of it is plain boredom and annoyance at two "stupid babies" being a SpotlightStealingSquad, but some of their detractors can get quite nasty. Especially with the idea that [[spoiler:Holy Roman Empire just might be a younger version of Germany, which somehow makes Germany less of a "real man" (or just goes against their idea of history)]]. The other younger versions of the characters have gotten hate and ridicule in spots, but nothing as extreme as some of the vitriol that a baby Italy and the one crushing on him can generate.
** The Principalities of Wy and Seborga instantly generated fan backlash due to not being based off bonafide countries, coupled with them being portrayed as young children/adolescents and buddies of the BrattyHalfPint Sealand. Wy's mouthy personality also hasn't helped her status.
* ''Manga/HighschoolOfTheDead'':
** Saya's anime portrayal is generally disliked for being a [[InsufferableGenius condescending know-it-all]] and her {{tsundere}}-ness, with strong emphasis on tsun-tsun; especially towards Hirano. Though the manga cast her in a much better light.
** For a minor character, the unnamed kid from the mall arc gets a lot of hate, since ''he'' was responsible for letting the zombies into the mall, while trying to ''[[DirtyCoward save]]'' '' himself.'' Which lead to the deaths of several of the others he'd abandoned, as well as [[HeroicSacrifice Asami and Shimada]][[note]]the mall survivor who had [[AttemptedRape tried to rape]] Shizuka[[/note]], who both died saving him.
* ''Manga/{{Himegoto}}'': The student council members 18+, Unko, and Bell are disliked by nearly every fan depsite being major characters. They constantly harrass and bully the main character and are almost ''never'' called out on it, and they have very few non-negated PetTheDog moments. All three of them also suffer from bland characterization. 18+ gets the most hate for her perversion and the fact that she's pushed as the main love interest for no real reason.
* ''Manga/HunterXHunter'': As evidenced by the Chimera Ant and Dark Continent arcs, even narrators aren’t safe from scrappy status. During those arcs, the amount of narration was significantly increased causing a significant portion of the fanbase to dislike the narrator.
** Genthru the MadBomber was rather bland and annoying to many and lacked the EvilIsCool factor of other villians. It also didn't help that he became a KarmaHoudini after his defeat.
* ''Manga/ImStandingOnAMillionLives'': Yuka gained a very vocal hatedom, with "All my homies hate Glasses Girl" becoming MemeticMutation a few weeks after she joined the team. This seems to be a combination of her introduction, where she's revealed to have used Yotsuya as a {{Scapegoat}} [[UngratefulBitch after he saved her from some bullies]] to avoid them targetting her again, [[IrrationalHatred her tendency to treat Yotsuya like crap when they end up meeting again just for being the]] OnlySaneMan, along with her tendency to make trouble for the party with her [[HotBlooded tendency to not put a lid on her feelings,]] such as when she called Kamilto out on his country's [[SlaveryIsASpecialKindOfEvil policy on slavery]], leading to him trapping her and Kahvel's groups in a dungeon, [[spoiler: leading to the death of the latter's subordinate.]] There's also the fact that she's never really called out on ''any'' of this, with Shindo even commending her for the first one.
* ''Manga/InuYasha'':
** Fans hate Shippo for being a [[MouthyKid smart-mouthed]], whiney, [[TheLoad useless]] BrattyHalfPint.
** Also Jaken for being [[SycophanticServant sycophantic]], jealous, and the annoying and useless member of Sesshomaru's team.
** Myoga the flea makes three TheLoad scrappies in the same series. An unfunny and un-LovableCoward who manages to be even weaker and more useless than the other two.
** Hojo, for his inability to catch a hint that Kagome isn't interested in him.
** Kagome's friends (Yuka, Eri, and Ayumi) can also count, as their sole purpose in the story is to keep pressuring her into dating Hojo.
* ''Anime/JunkBoy'': This is one of the few rare examples of the ''protagonist himself'' falling into this role. Ryohei Yamazaki is basically the bastard lovechild of [[WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy Glenn Quagmire]] and [[Manga/GoldenBoy Kintaro Oe]] but with any and all of their more positive and likable traits removed. He's so sex-crazed that he can barely function or think, sexually harasses all of the people around him, makes offhand comments about potentially turning out as a '''rapist''' if he didn't have access to dirty pictures from one of his favorite models and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking is overall just plain annoying, stupid and uncharismatic.]]
* ''Anime/KaiketsuZorro'': Lolita gets quite a bit of hate from fans for the way she belittles Diego and puts him down almost all the time. In the episode "Trapped By Ninja Magic" she even goes so far as to beat him up for allegedly not coming to her help (even though he did as Zorro). It also doesn't help her case that Diego has very little choice but to play the spoiled fool and can't just casually reveal his Zorro identity to her because if the army did find definitive proof that he was Zorro, his whole family would most likely get arrested and/or executed.
* ''Literature/{{Kampfer}}'': Natsuru has scrappy status among fans for being [[ObliviousToLove incredibly dense]].
* ''Manga/KenganAshura'':
** It's really difficult to find anyone that likes Seishu Akoya due to his extreme vigilante tactics, which makes even The Punisher look like a reasonable person by comparison, and because he has little to no character development or interaction with other characters besides Hiyama. His role in Omega has mitigated this somewhat, though those who like him still do so in a LoveToHate way.
** Raian Kure also counts. He has nothing likeable about him, and is a cruel asshole to even his own family, whom he frequently threatens to kill. This wouldn't be so bad, if he were written as a HateSink, but the writers of the manga seem to consider him to be an anti-hero at worst, treating his refusal to use techniques as his most negative trait, as opposed to that trait being... well, everything else about him. Even from the perspective of him being a fighter, the fact that Raian's strength comes from [[BornWinner a gift born of eugenics]] that borders on outright fantastical [[SmugSuper makes him rather difficult to root for]]. It doesn't help that he's only lost on-screen once to Ohma about halfway through ''Ashura'', making fans desperate to want to see him get his comeuppance. [[spoiler:Him killing off Alan Wu, who is popular due to his character design, as well as Edward Wu, who is extremely popular due to his EvilIsCool factor, has made the fandom loathe him even more.]] This has led to fans derogatorily calling him "Sandrovich's Little Princess" and other variations of that name due to his obvious PlotArmor and constant victories, as well as him having an increased amount of screen-time in Omega in spite of his unpopularity. Pretty much the only people you can find who like him are powerscalers and fangirls (and fanboys) who like him due to finding him attractive.
* ''Anime/KiddyGirlAnd'': Ascoeur draws a lot of flak for her high-pitched screaming and childish behavior throughout the series. She barely gets her act together as the show progresses, which many viewers regard as way too late.
* ''Manga/KotouraSan'':
** Hiyori is nearly universally hated by fans due to her (mis)treatment of Haruka. She's Manabe's HopelessSuitor, but he and Haruka are the OfficialCouple.
** The unnamed old woman who [[spoiler:takes the stray cat Haruka had been feeding to a shelter]] gets a special mention; she has collected many death threats from fans [[WhamLine just by saying a few words to Haruka]].
* ''Manga/{{Lady}}'': George Russell, Lynn's father was considered UnintentionallyUnsympathetic by anime-only fans for his neglect of Lynn (he's always away for work, so he leaves her in the care of his abusive fiancee and her two children), but manga readers were outraged when he [[spoiler: actually went through with his marriage to Madeleine, even though she treats Lynn and Sarah like crap. Manga!George also died shortly afterwards, having never gotten to [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap redeem himself]] to viewers like his anime counterpart.]]
* Yoshiko Tanaka from ''Anime/TheLegendOfBlackHeaven'' is an example of this category, compared to everything that goes on in the series. She is also the reason for her husband, Oji Tanaka's initial mid-life depression.
* ''Anime/{{Maburaho}}'': The members of Kazuki and Yuna's class (and the two class representatives in particular) may be collectively the most petty and selfish class in anime, putting Kazuki on trial and trying to mete out punishments simply because he is friendly with Yuna. They even go so far as to sabotage a collaboration with another class just to spite [[NiceGuy Kazuki]].
* ''Anime/MacrossDelta'': Bogue is the most blatant example. He is the most evil and bloodthirsty of the Aerial Knights and no one bothers to put him down. He would qualify as a JerkassWoobie if it weren’t for the fact that he treats his sad backstory as a license to be an asshole instead of a reason for viewers to sympathize with him. [[spoiler:[[KarmaHoudini He never suffers any comeuppance for his cruelty]], [[HumblePie except for having to swallow his pride and work with Walküre in the finale.]]]]
* ''Anime/MagicKnightRayearth'': Primera the fairy isn't very well liked by the fans, due her SmallNameBigEgo behavior and her [[DieForOurShip constant meddling between Hikaru and Lantis.]]
* ''Manga/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaVivid'': Miura is really not liked within the fandom, being a sudden awesome prodigy of the Wolkenritter who, when she shows up for the TournamentArc, trashes Vivio. Not only does she trash Vivio, she trashes her ''with a kicking version of Nanoha's Starlight Breaker''. Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad had this been near the end or the absolute end of the tournament, but no, she defeats Vivio ''at the near start''.
* ''Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce'':
** The manga adds up the newcomer Cypha of Huckebein as one of the Scrappies for [[spoiler:[[CurbStompBattle trashing fan favorite Signum through cheating]] and leaving her nearly dead. As she is the answer for ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration'''s [[BigBadWannabe Wilhelm von Juergen]], who committed similar crime to the character Signum is {{Expy}}-ing, Lamia Loveless, and he gets the same heat with her, it's like Cypha has resigned herself to this position from get-go.]]
** Curren seems to get a fair amount of hate for [[spoiler:[[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice stabbing]] Hayate to [[NegatedMomentOfAwesome interrupt a spell that would have been]] a Moment of Awesome for her, then defeating Vita and Erio, both of whom had the AEC weapons that Signum lacked, almost instantly]].
* ''Anime/MajokkoMegChan'': The show is rather obscure, but when people these days do speak of it in favor, they usually tend to hold Chou-san in contempt, half because he's annoying, and half because his whole shtick is pretty unfunny, particularly in several episodes where he comes dangerously close to rapist territory.
* ''Anime/{{Mar}}'': Edward and Belle are considered annoying, clingy mascots. Edward is only there to be a handicap for Alan before the curse was undone and once that happened, Edward had no character of his own, aside from commentary and being a SatelliteCharacter to either Alan or Snow. Belle in comparison reminds too many people of a certain fairy from a [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime certain video game]] due to her annoying voice and clingy attachment to Alviss, mainly for [[DieForOurShip shippers who rather have her gone so Alviss can be closer to preferred ships like Ginta, Rolan or Phantom]].
* ''Manga/MarchComesInLikeALion'': Hina's homeroom teacher during the bullying arc, for being AdultsAreUseless incarnate [[spoiler:and for victim-blaming Hina for the bullying.]]
* ''Literature/MariaWatchesOverUs'':
** Touko ([[FanNickname Drill-chan]]) is disliked by a fairly large part of the fandom because of her [[{{Jerkass}} bitchy attitude]], despite all the efforts of the creator to present her in a more positive light. The fact that Yumi keeps relentlessly pursuing her as her petite soeur only adds to this, since a lot of fans think that there are more suitable candidates-- [[HugeSchoolGirl Kanako]], for instance.
** Compounding this is the fact that Kanako is called out for her initial bad behavior while Touko is never told to stop either by Sachiko or Yumi herself.
* ''Anime/MarvelAnime'':
** This version of Logan/Wolverine was not very well received by fans, particularly for his PrettyBoy design. Likewise, his voice acting from Creator/MiloVentimiglia was also not appreciated. Despite this, this is the same version of Wolverine that showed up not just in this anime, but also in Iron Man and Blade, albeit in one episode each. Many fans lamented that Creator/SteveBlum, the man famous for voicing Wolverine in numerous Marvel media, was not approached for the role and instead used to voice another character, who happened to be his rival, no less. The creators seem to notice this too, as they would later hire Blum to voice the very same role by the time the X-Men anime was made, complete with the appropriate character design for Wolverine.
** ''[[Anime/MarvelAnimeWolverine Wolverine]]'': Among the many flaws that this anime has possessed, these characters were particularly ‘’’glaring’’’ examples:
*** Lord Shingen Yashida hasn’t gotten much fans, because in this continuity, he spends his screen time being both a one-dimensional, [[FlatCharacter generic]] {{Jerkass}} and GenericDoomsdayVillain who basically serves as a weak BigBad. Despite his reputation as TheDreaded and being someone who is extremely ruthless, he is technically still a business partner and Hideki is more powerful than him in terms of money and connections, yet somehow he never seems to be called out for his actions, not even with the case of his own daughter, who he barely even interacts with and randomly calls her his property, and despite the obvious power difference, he abused Hideki, who was supposed to help him fulfill his plans in the first place through his arranged marriage. Ironically, he doesn’t even have as much screen time as he was supposed to, despite his BigBad role, and when he does show up, he has absolutely no personality at all other than apparently he wants perfection and cannot be matched in battle. He also gets treated like an inexplicably [[InvincibleVillain unstoppable]] VillainSue for no other reason than to show that he is supposed to be the main threat that Wolverine has to face. His bloated HonorBeforeReason mindset also doesn’t help, neither does his stereotypical arrogant BloodKnight attitude towards Wolverine and Koh. Fans especially don’t like him for taking away too much time and attention from other fan-favorite villains that appear here, like Omega Red. He has a lot more hatred than Hideki himself, who has a lot more screen time and characterization to make him a solid villain. Even the creators of the Wolverine anime seem to know this well, as when they did put Wolverine into the other anime projects (Iron Man, Blade, and X-Men), they made certain to exclusively write Mariko’s death as a result of Hideki’s supplier A.I.M., and not Shingen himself.
*** Shingen’s daughter Mariko gets it worse, due to her being basically a {{Wangst}}y [[TheLoad load]] who constantly whines that she deserves her miserable fate and does not make a single move to stop her arranged marriage or at least stand up to her tyrannical father. She was especially despised for essentially being a [[{{MacGuffin}} plot device]] just to give the anime some purpose rather than being her one self. When it seems like that she was able to show some spine at the end of the series by attempting to shield a wounded Wolverine from Hideki, she ultimately makes the entire show completely pointless with her death, however, that may be excused as fans know well [[DoomedByCanon that she would have died anyway, no matter what Wolverine did]], but her death was so poorly executed and random that it basically turned off fans and lead them to stop caring about the anime even as it ends.
*** Koh started as another BadassNormal, grandfatherly type figure, especially to young Min, up until he basically threw away the lives of his own resistance force just to get a desperate attempt at killing Hideki and taking over Madripoor. Even when Min ended up dying, he just kept proceeding to try to get his revenge, an act that even [[BigBad Shingen]] called him out on, saying that he didn’t even care that Shingen had killed his son, but instead wanted to get power for himself that was not meant to be his in the first place, subverting any noble purpose he claims to have and instead making him look like Koh is TooDumbToLive. Even after his HeroicSacrifice, by that point his actions are so pointless and unnecessarily deplorable that any sympathy and respect that he may have had during his first appearance had all but vanished, and his death comes off as completely justified.
* ''Anime/MermaidMelodyPichiPichiPitch'': Michal is extremely despised by fans for [[DieForOurShip getting in the way of the pairing of Luchia and Kaito]], her obsessive clinginess towards the later, and being [[UngratefulBitch ungrateful]] for everything her brother Rihito did to make her life better.
* ''Manga/{{Monster}}'' brings us Otto Heckler, a supposedly LovableRogue shoehorned into the animated version. He's so poorly integrated, there are numerous scenes they could have done without him. His 'comedic antics' do not fit in with the dark, compelling nature of the show, even his wide, cartoonish features look out of place. His incessant chatter does not help matters, if there's no one else around, he'll even talk to himself! He gets worse during the attempted arson of the Turkish district. While everyone else is trying to save lives, his only concern is pawning an expensive rug, which just comes off as despicable.
* ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'': Mineta Minoru gets a lot of hate. Many see him as a FlatCharacter, existing only for pervert jokes that have been done to death in other shonen manga, without any other personality traits or characteristics to build on. Some viewers go so far as to accuse Mineta of being a serious sexual predator, for reasons including invoking JailBaitWait on ''a traumatized six-year-old girl''. Even fans who don't mind the pervert jokes get frustrated that Mineta's so completely one-note about it, never showing any other personality traits besides being a pervert. His quirk (generating adhesive spheres from his hair) and design (a [[NonStandardCharacterDesign cartoonish midget]] whose choice of costume has some kind of metal diaper) are seen as lame and fairly ugly. Possible redeeming characteristics such as his high intelligence remain {{Informed Attribute}}s in favor of his more unpleasant sides. The fact that Mineta was chosen for the Heroes' Course above Shinso, a far more popular character, doesn't help. Mineta tends to be at or near the bottom in popularity polls for ''My Hero Academia'', and stories where Mineta gets expelled or replaced by Shinso are so common on Website/ArchiveOfOurOwn that there are [[FandomSpecificPlot dedicated tags for both kinds of stories]]. He's practically entered LoveToHate territory for a lot of the fanbase.
* ''Anime/MyHime'':
** A sizable contingent of fandom has it in for male lead character Yuuichi Tate, as the NonActionGuy Love Interest of the redheaded heroine. His case isn't helped much by some of the questionable actions he took to [[CanNotSpitItOut finally getting around to showing his affections]], most coming at the expense of his ChildhoodFriend Shiho Munakata.
** Shiho gets quite a bit of this, as well, because of her [[ClingyJealousGirl clinginess and jealous attitude]] to Yuuichi and [[spoiler:several attempts on Mai's life, as well as [[RevengeByProxy killing Mai's brother Takumi]].]].
* ''Manga/MyMonsterSecret'': The gods of fortune, to some degree. Their appearances are few and far between, but they and their gags are consider one of the weaker parts of the series.
* ''Anime/MyOtome'': Sergey gets a lot of hate in some circles, because his interactions with Arika and Nina make him come off as a paedophile at times, even though it's ''Nina'' who takes the initiative, and also because he reminds some fans ([[{{Expy}} visually]]) of Yuuichi (see above).
** Far more Scrappy than the [[PaedoHunt "pedophilia"]] part, as both Nina and Arika were around 16/17 in the series, rather than young children (making this not even an oddity among Japanese anime series), was his treatment of Nina, not only encouraging her obviously twisted fantasies of love while [[{{Squick}} simultaneously]] being her adopted ''[[ParentalIncest father]]'', but also forcing her to go through with the plan which involves [[NiceJobBreakingItHero turning her]] into a mass murderer of innocent men, women, and children. All while toying with Arika, [[ExtremeDoormat refusing to standup]] to [[MagnificentBastard Nagi]], one of the most sadistic, murderous villains in fiction, and in general, being useless aside from making [[TheMillstone bad situations worse]]. And in the end, he can't even accomplish his revolution without getting shot in the head, put into a coma, where he remains useless for the rest of the series and through the OVA as well.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Others N-Z]]
* ''Anime/NadiaTheSecretOfBlueWater'': [[SeriesMascot King]] is thought of as being the series' default Scrappy due in a small part to his cartoonish traits in a setting that doesn't quite fit with them, and partially for being the driving force of many of the Filler episodes during the Island and Africa arcs, which most of the fans, and even the director himself, like to pretend were never included in the first place (with the exception of episodes 30 and 31). The fact that he has almost no impact whatsoever on or involvement with the main plot of the series also adds to his Scrappiness.
* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'':
** Karin is hated due to being characterized as only being obsessed with Sasuke, essentially being a rip-off of Part I Sakura. While initially RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap after being stabbed by Sasuke just to kill Danzo [[UngratefulBastard despite healing him just now]], after she reverts back to being obsessed and [[EasilyForgiven quickly forgave]] Sasuke, she becomes TheScrappy again to the point that [[UnintentionallyUnsympathetic fans hardly reacted when she was in tears over the fact that Sasuke is stabbed by Madara]].
** [[EvilMatriarch Kaguya Ootsutsuki]]. Immediately after she makes her debut she's already despised for hijacking the plot [[AssPull completely out of nowhere]], shifting the storyline unnecessarily to a new villain arc and making the already horrendously convoluted plot even more so. Add to the list, her resealing about only 30 chapters after her first mention, meaning she [[GenericDoomsdayVillain never gets any characterization]] beyond her lust for power and contributes essentially nothing to the story aside from extending its length and [[BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork killing off Madara and Obito]], meaning some will hate her due to her sheer pointlessness.
* ''Literature/NyarukoCrawlingWithLove'': Not a lot of people find Cunne's "incestuous PsychoLesbian" schtick very funny. The fact she is blatantly older than Cuuko only makes it worse.
* From ''Nyatto!'', Anzu. Her introduction, which draws many complaints the manga taking a turn from [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot an unique story of a guy growing a relationship with his long-time pet kitty turned into a prissy catgirl that wants to turn him into her butler,]] to your standard harem series where the main character is always a ButtMonkey, as well Anzu often beating up, berating and punishing Shigeru for his perverted antics...[[{{Hypocrite}} when she is as much of a pervert as he is]] and yet [[DoubleStandard Anzu always gets away with her own antics]].
* ''Anime/OjamajoDoremi'':
** Since Pop wasn't given much of a role in the first place and was mostly a BrattyHalfPint AnnoyingYoungerSibling for almost two seasons, she tends to be disliked by the fanbase. Most of her detractors claim that her presence in the story was unnecessary, and her personality pre-CharacterDevelopment didn't help either.
** Hana is also considered one of the least favorites of the fan community due to her qualities of being a "cute" [[CuteClumsyGirl Clumsy Girl]] (read: causes trouble), and somewhat of a BrattyHalfPint when she gets upset (read: causes more trouble).
** Out of all the classmates, Tamaki is probably liked the least. She brags about how her father never punishes her as opposed to the other girls in her class and thinks that punishing your child is "barbaric". She makes fun of Momoko and Hana during their respective first days of school, Momoko for technically being a foreigner and Hana for acting like a toddler.
** Other than Tamaki, some of the male classmates were scrappies for one at least one episode. Notably the SOS Trio for teasing Naomi, and for the idiotic strategy they used to "beat" Mutsumi in a wrestling match.
* ''VisualNovel/OokamiKakushi'': Isuzu too to an extent--she didn't get as ''much'' hatred as Hiroshi (and some of it lightened up when she was temporarily PutOnABus), but not everyone found her [[ClingyJealousGirl clingy, stalker-ish habits]] amusing.
* Creator/OsamuTezuka's ReusedCharacterDesign: Ham Egg. Whether [[Manga/AstroBoy he's a nasty circus manager]], [[Manga/KimbaTheWhiteLion a poacher who killed off the hero's parents]], [[Manga/{{Phoenix}} or an organ smuggler]], he's found to be a total SmugSnake by fans.
* ''Anime/OtogiZoshi'': Kintarou looks like an example of the BrattyHalfPint variety. Most of the characters are fairly serious, and then you throw in an obnoxious, super-strong kid.
* ''Manga/PandoraHearts'':
** Jack Vessalius. When he first appeared, he was a mysterious, kind benefactor who wished to protect the amnesiac girl. Now, when it is quite likely that he has been [[spoiler:the cause of the tragedy of Sablier and the true evil villain all along who manipulated everyone else all along.]] More than likely, many people will not love him anymore.
** Vincent Nightray, for being a selfish, abusive sociopath who uses the hero's little sister's feelings for him to his advantage, and manipulates everyone. [[spoiler:He also cut out a cat's eyes with scissors and mocked Alice simply out of jealousy.]]
** Duke Barma. It's all for the sake of love does not make up for the fact that he is a general jackass, speaks in YeOldeButcheredEnglish, communicates by creepy illusions, and will switch sides to suit his purposes. He has had one goal for the past fifty years, marry the MoralityChain. She hasn't said yes yet.
* ''Anime/PrettyCure'':
** Lulun of ''Anime/FutariWaPrettyCureMaxHeart'' is just as whiny and bratty as first season Pollun, if not more so, and just as unpopular.
*** Not even Hikari is safe from this. Common fan complaints include "she's not a Cure", "she's not a fighter", and "she's a FlatCharacter".
** Milk of ''Anime/YesPrettyCure5'' is one of the most hated fairies ever, for being an annoying brat and deliberately causing trouble for the Cures, especially around the time of her debut. At least her Kurumi and Milky Rose forms are [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap more tolerable]] in ''[=GoGo!=]'' though.
*** Also from the same series, there are also people who dislike Coco's fairy form on the basis of his voice, which is widely considered annoying.
** Candy of ''Anime/SmilePrecure'' is getting ''a lot'' of heat too, mainly for being stupid, useless, and a SpotlightStealingSquad character to the point where the majority of the plot is all about "babysitting Candy".
** Aguri of ''Anime/DokiDokiPrecure'' is more or less Regina's ReplacementScrappy who acts like a {{Jerkass}} since her debut episode, even going so far as to [[KickTheDog punish Mana for failing to eliminate Regina]] (who got dragged back into the Jikochuu's ranks via [[BrainwashedAndCrazy her father's brainwashing]]), [[BrutalHonesty mock Makoto's worthiness as an idol]], [[DisappointedInYou call Alice "weak"]], and [[PragmaticHero attempting to kill Ira]] (who got an amnesia via being struck by lightning at that time) and [[SiblingMurder Regina]] ''both times'', with Mana [[WhatTheHellHero calling her out]] over the latter part. Even a little girl cried over Cure Ace being a completely new character from nowhere over Regina and ''Dokidoki!'' took [[SeasonalRot a massive blow to its TV ratings because of this]]. However, later episodes alleviate this by [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap revealing more of Aguri's backstory]].
*** And then there's Yashima, who just broke poor Raquel's heart (intentional or not) by introducing her boyfriend to him.
** ''Anime/HappinessChargePrettyCure'': Blue is extremely unpopular with fans due to many complaints of him being useless. [[spoiler:His reputation tanked even further when it was eventually revealed that everything that happened in the story, including Cure Mirage going rogue and turning into the BigBad Queen Mirage, Red and Phantom taking revenge, and eventually the events of the series, was because of him and his lack of commitment.]]
* ''Manga/ThePrinceOfTennis'':
** Main character Ryoma Echizen himself, for behaving like a jerk (especially toward rival and [[EnsembleDarkhorse unexpected fan favorite]] Keigo Atobe who, according to his fangirls, can absolutely do NO wrong).
** Tomoka Osakada, for being a loud [[{{Tsundere}} self-appointed Echizen fangirl]] who can sometimes be [[BrattyHalfPint pushy, airheaded and bitchy]]. Also, for being female.
** [[ShrinkingViolet Sakuno Ryuzaki]] for being TheKlutz and a bit of an ExtremeDoormat, more so in the anime, as her less klutzy manga self is better regarded. Again, she's also female.
** Satoshi Horio, for being a loudmouthed NonActionGuy who brags and talks yet accomplishes nothing and is the local ChewToy,
** Seiichi Yukimura, for being a girly-looking DelicateAndSickly ManipulativeBastard who will do [[BrokenAesop almost]] ''[[KnightTemplar anything]]'' [[JerkJock to let his team win]] and [[DieForOurShip gets in betwen Atobe and Sanada]], and;
** [[ButNotTooForeign Jackal Kuwahara]], for being the only Rikkai guy [[BadassNormal who plays]] ''[[BadassNormal normal]]'' [[BadassNormal tennis]] and stealing what rabid fangirls perceived as Hiroshi Yagyuu's designated place in the finals.
* ''Anime/PrincessTutu'':
** Pique and Lilie can certainly wear on most viewers' patience, especially Lilie and her cutesy/sadistic attitudes.
** Uzura as well due to being CuteButCacophonic.
* ''Manga/PrisonSchool'':
** Shingo is the most hated of the five boys among the Prison School fandom due to his hypocritical and selfish behavior.
** Early on, Mari is perhaps the most hated female character among the Prison School fandom, especially during her turn as the main antagonist in the first story arc. She had redeemed herself in much of the fandom's eyes after going through some character development in the 2nd story arc though.
** To a lesser extent, Chiyo gets flak for being a NiceGirl who stood out among the entire cast like a sore thumb, more due to being boring instead of actual dislike of the character.
* ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'':
** Hitomi gets a ''lot'' of flak from the fanbase because she told Sayaka that she has 24 hours to tell Kyosuke her feelings (LockedOutOfTheLoop about why this wouldn't work for Sayaka aside, this is far too little time for such a decision), or else she will confess, or simply [[DieForOurShip they think Sayaka would be better with him]].
** You'd be very hard-pressed to find a fan who ''likes'' Kyosuke. At best, fans are neutral towards him. At worst, people loathe him for being a male in a show full of yuri subtext and being an [[DieForOurShip "obstacle"]] to Kyoko/Sayaka, not telling Sayaka that he got out of the hospital, or being a [[ObliviousToLove "dense idiot"]] who didn't deserve Sayaka ''or'' Hitomi's love. Fans gained more reason to hate him when he reacts [[FreakOut poorly]] to [[spoiler:[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-na_Bzmvk4 Sayaka's appearance]] in a BadEnding of the PSP game, which ironically also has a situation where]] [[spoiler: he ends up with her]]. Aside from that, people who don't hate him tend to find him a very bland and underdeveloped character (even his character design is incredibly nondescript), which makes it rather painful when a major narrative beat has to hinge on a major character being willing to sell her soul for him. [[spoiler:Even Sayaka herself, by the time of ''Rebellion'', seems to have been happy to move on in hindsight.]]
* ''Anime/RankingOfKings'': The entire kingdom of Gyazuka. In a series that runs on GrayAndGrayMorality, the residents of Gyazuka are just a cardboard [[PlanetOfHats kingdom of hats]] of lazily written evil people. Their blatant evil nature soured many viewers from the jump.
* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'': Happosai. A large number of fans have a serious dislike for him, some even going so far as to avoid watching episodes/reading chapters in which he plays a prominent role. People have literally stated that they dropped the series because of how often Happosai appears, and how annoying they find him. The reason generally stems from the fact he is the MiniatureSeniorCitizens equivalent of a DirtyOldMan and a PantyThief, while also being an {{evil|Mentor}} FairWeatherMentor OldMaster, notable as being childish, selfish and immature, even compared to [[ComedicSociopathy everyone else]] in the {{s|adistShow}}eries. Generally, if Happosai shows up, he's going to either be groping and harassing every female (born or [[GenderBender made]]) in sight, causing trouble because he's a {{Jerkass}}, trying to get revenge on Ranma for interfering with him being a nuisance, or some combination of the aforementioned. It certainly doesn't help matters that most episodes with Happosai end up as a KarmaHoudini for him. Most of the terrible things he does either goes unpunished because Genma and Soun are too cowardly to stand up to him without Ranma, or ''Ranma'' gets the blame when it's more obviously Happosai's fault. Not to mention that Happosai is one of causes of the series having a BittersweetEnding, if not the definite cause. [[spoiler:Mistaking the Jusenkyo water sent to the Saotome household for sake, and drinking it all up before any of the other characters can use it to cure their respective curses]].
* ''Manga/Reborn2004'': While it's unclear where he stands in the Japanese fandom, Naito Longchamp was near-universally despised by a large percentage of overseas fans due largely to his goofy appearance and rambunctious personality. This only applies to the manga, however; the anime wound up writing him out of the plot entirely. However, this may be undergoing a reverse process -- fans have claimed that Longchamp appearing may be the only thing that can ''save'' the show.
* ''Manga/RentAGirlfriend'': ''Nobody'' likes Mami. Not only does she come off as a [[ManipulativeBitch blatant manipulator who toys with people's feelings]], with her introduction showing that she broke up with Kazuya after just a month with the explanation of meeting someone she likes more [[BlatantLies (which is later revealed to be a lie)]], fans are further put off by how cruelly she treats him. During a mixer, she viciously insults him and derides him as a pervert in front of Chizuru, which her and Kazuya's friends [[EveryoneHasStandards find very uncomfortable despite their own tendency to rib on him]]. And she even goes as far to demand Kazuya ''[[NeverMyFault apologizes on her behalf]]'' when Chizuru defends him and calls her out on it. Fans are also extremely put off for her motives for trying to break Kazuya and Chizuru up, which isn't because she still likes Kazuya and wants him back like most instances of this, but out of spite over the fact [[EvilIsPetty that Kazuya apparently found another girlfriend so soon after she dumped him.]] While a large part of this is intentional due to her being a HateSink, the author ended up going a bit too far, where instead of being a character that readers/viewers LoveToHate, she became a character that people just want gone from the story entirely.
* ''Anime/RevolutionaryGirlUtena'': Nanami Kiryuu is an AlphaBitch, a ClingyJealousGirl and a prominent face in the series' filler episodes, which causes many viewers to write her off as either an obnoxious nuisance or pointless comic relief. While it's been alleged that members of staff disliked her (supposedly the reason she only got a very limited role in TheMovie, and as a cow at that) director Creator/KunihikoIkuhara is quite fond of her; apparently, she was modeled after a girl he liked when he was younger, but who never gave him the time of day. She wasn't integral to the movie plot, and Chiho Saitou was in charge of the manga (where she only appears in a single photograph) hence the discrepancy in her appearances between each adaptation. However, Nanami does become RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap for many fans once episodes 31 and 32 roll around, in which she becomes [[JerkassWoobie just too pitiful to hate]].
* ''Anime/{{Robotech}}'' and ''Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross'' has Lynn Kaifun. Whereas Minmay's actions can be seen as those of a confused, emotionally needy NaiveEverygirl attempting to survive in a ruthless world of adults, Kaifun comes off as less sympathetic and much more of a straight-up, abusive JerkAss. Not to mention that he kept railing on the military for being warlike murderers. [[TooDumbToLive While giant aliens are actively trying to kill the lot of them]]. He gets even worse in the final arc of ''Macross'', when the Earth is trying to rebuild after being decimated, turning into a spiteful drunk who emotionally (and sometimes physically) abuses Minmei because she isn't in too big of a demand (and can only pay in paultry gifts for her singing), and just leaves without any real retribution for ''any'' of his crap. Also for a self-proclaimed pacifist, he sure does know how to do spinkicks, something lampshaded in the Robotech novel adaptations. Also, he was trying to get together with Minmei... his cousin. For many, this was quite squick-worthy.
* ''Anime/RoninWarriors'': Depending on which segment of the fandom you ask, this role could be taken on by any combination of [[TeamMom Natsuti/Mia]], [[BrattyHalfPint Jun/Yulie]], Lady Kayura or Suzunagi from the OAV.
* ''Manga/RozenMaiden'': Hinaichigo and Kanaria are easily the two least popular of the dolls, especially because they're seen as "less mature" than the others. Still, [[AlasPoorScrappy it's kinda sad]] [[spoiler:watching Hina slowly wind down to her inevitable death (anime) or [[CruelAndUnusualDeath being strangled and eaten]] by Kirakishou (manga)]]. The biggest reason for the hate toward Kanaria is the fact that [[spoiler: EnsembleDarkhorse Suiseiseki performs a HeroicSacrifice to let her escape, which she responds to by foolishly going back and getting killed like an idiot anyway, rendering her death pointless.]]
* ''Manga/{{Saki}}'': Teru Miyanaga, the eponymous main character's [[AloofBigSister older sister]], attracted a fairly sizable hatedom after it's revealed that she has, when asked, refused to admit that she has a sister, when Saki had seemingly done nothing to deserve this. Quite a bit of the fandom wants Teru to get her comeuppance, rather than reconcile with Saki, even though the narrative remains sympathetic to Saki's goal.
* ''Anime/SchoolLive'':
** Yuuri in the second arc got flak for her [[spoiler:deepening delusions about Ruu. Unlike Yuki, whose condition makes her more sympathetic and endearing, Yuuri's delusions make her outright unstable and unlikable. It doesn't help that she still believes that Ruu is still alive even after seeing Ayaka "Kill" her (In reality she just stepped on the head of the teddy bear that Yuuri thinks is Ruu).]] And Chapter 49 makes her even ''worse'', [[spoiler:as she's more concerned about a teddy bear than ''her actual living friends'', to where she has to be reminded that Kurumi is still missing]]. By the time the final arc rolls around though, [[spoiler:she's slowly starting to [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap grow out of this]]]].
** Takahito isn't very well-liked either. While he is suppose to be a {{Hate Sink}}, some of the hate he gets goes beyond that, with criticism towards him being that he's a dull and uninteresting character who [[SpotlightStealingSquad nonetheless takes page time from better characters]]. His {{Wangst}} backstory, [[TooDumbToLive sheer stupidity]] and [[spoiler:how pathetically he's ultimately killed]] doesn't earn him any fans either.
* ''Manga/SekaiIchiHatsukoi'':
** Chiaki, for his stupidity that can only go so far in a yaoi series, to his [[InnocentlyInsensitive insensitive]] nature (tell your best friend whose [[UnluckyChildhoodFriend obliviously in love with you]] to go hook up with someone else after you already pissed him off with lying to him (which by the way is implied to be Yanase's BerserkButton as well as breaking your promise to hang out with him) and finally being a huge brat about everything despite being at least 29. Sure he has his {{Woobie}} moments especially in the novel [[spoiler:where he was [[RapeasDrama brutally raped]] by his other best friend Hatori]] but that goes out the window when 1. He forgives said friend in an unrealistic fashion and 2. TookALevelInJerkass as a result of going out with him despite what Hatori done to him. So with each episode, you want to strangle Chiaki and it reaches its climax in the last episode concerning him where [[spoiler:he rejects Yanase one last time and this time, he {{break|TheCutie}}s [[HeroicBSOD down]] crying because Chiaki refuses to take him seriously.]] And what does he tell Yanase despite this? [[spoiler:I'll call you back later. You're my ''friend'' after all.]] WHAT THE HELL CHIAKI?! Alas, it will be really hard to find someone who likes Chiaki after that episode.
** Hatori, Chiaki's {{Yandere}} boyfriend, isn't any better. Despite having fans (who look past his faults and puts it straight into the DracoInLeatherPants territory), his actions in the series has turned a lot of people off and made people call him despicable human being. What did he do? Mentioned above he crossed the MoralEventHorizon for a lot of people when he [[spoiler:[[RapeAsDrama brutally raped]] Chiaki all because he thought Yanase was going to win in the battle of love.]] The worse part is he's a KarmaHoudini and gets to hook up with Chiaki. But it doesn't end there though. Hatori is possessive to the point that he tries to get Chiaki to cut ties with Yanase and their constant fighting HAS caused a rift between Chiaki and Yanase as shown in later episodes. There whole relationship is a MasochismTango. The part that made people seal the deal was the same episode that made people hate Chiaki [[WhamEpisode episode 16]] where he apparently cheats on Chiaki with his ex-girlfriend (he didn't but that doesn't change the fact that he let her touch his hair in an affectionate manner) and because he met with her though, he cancelled the date that Chiaki was looking forward to because it was the last time the movie he wanted to watch was airing in theaters. However, the minute he finds out that Chiaki went over to Yanase's place, it is implied that he threatened over the phone and then [[spoiler:broke into Yanase's house just to punch him in the face. Mind you, Yanase didn't fight back because he {{br|eakTheCutie}}oke from Chiaki's confession and Hatori made it worse.]] Again, Hatori is a KarmaHoudini despite his KickThemWhileTheyAreDown moment and is the only one who is really happy at the end of the episode.
* ''Manga/SgtFrog'': The anime is known for {{Flanderization}}, adding several new recurring characters or expanding their roles. One of the most despised anime-exclusive characters is Joriri, an unshaven bum who first appeared in the Chibi-Kero {{Flashback}} episodes. Basically a {{Perma Stubble}}d {{Expy}} for Adult!Keroro, he serves as a bad role model for the young tadpoles and engages in lots of [[SpotlightStealingSquad scene-stealing antics]]. His first appearance bore a striking resemblance to one manga chapter focused on Giroro's relationship with his brother, leading fans to label Joriri a ReplacementScrappy. ([[MisBlamed The chapter was later adapted faithfully, but by then it was too late]], [[SpotlightStealingSquad and they'd found other reasons to hate him]].) His frequent reappearances have him verging on CreatorsPet, particularly after he abruptly showed up on Earth and shacked up with the Platoon.
* ''Literature/ShakuganNoShana'': Kazumi Yoshida. Aside of the DieForOurShip and RealWomenNeverWearDresses factors, there's the fact that people think she's shallow, boring, clichéd schoolgirl-in-love-for-a-classmate, steals too much screentime for her little romantic-anime antics and, for the final blow, her impact to the overall plot is almost null. A quick Google search turns up comments on her such as "The single greatest flaw with this series is that she isn't dead yet." That said, at least some people saw her as RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap during the events of ''Final''.
* ''Manga/ShamanKing'':
** Pirika, since many feel her character is useless and annoying.
** Lyserg and the rest of the X-laws (mostly Marco though out of them, but they all are still generally not liked AT ALL) are not very popular with the Shaman King fans, because they come off as [[HolierThanThou self-righteous]] and {{Hypocrite}}s... then there is the fact that they kill people [[DisproportionateRetribution they deem evil]]-[[FamilyUnfriendlyDeath rather viciously]]. Marco and Lyserg are the most hated out of all of them. Lyserg for whining all the time about how he's gonna get revenge for Hao killing his parents, then leaving Yoh and Co. for the X-laws, and continuing from there after acting like a preachy brainwashed, hypocritical idiot. Marco for being a bigoted, hypocritical ass who looked down on everyone not in the X-laws. Though this is mostly how it was in the anime, and where the hatred comes from. The X-laws and Lyserg show their character development much sooner in the manga than in the anime, therefore they grew better on the fandom, in the anime however, this character development only came near the last few episodes.
* ''Manga/ASilentVoice'':
** Ueno gets a lot of this, such as [[spoiler:on the Ferris wheel she tries to shift blame from herself to Shoko for Shoko's bullying and Shoya's loss of friends and current state, then responds to Shoko saying she hates herself with a slap and a flippant "so what". Then there’s the bit after Shoko almost committed suicide where Ueno attacks Shoko (who’s got a broken arm) again blaming her for Shoya’s coma which put Ueno into complete HateSink level for many fans]]. She is RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap for a good deal of fans in later chapters of the manga though, after her FreudianExcuse is fully explained and she finally accepts defeat. Though other readers still think Ueno got off too lightly for her actions.
** Shoko's mother gets some flak for not letting Shoko use sign language in front of her and seems to have no interest in wanting to learn it so she can communicate with her. Many people say she's a bit too authoritarian for her own good. She gets better after some [[DefrostingIceQueen defrosting]] and [[spoiler: even RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap for many after chapter 44, where she apologizes to Shoya's mother for Shoko causing Shoya's accident and slapping Ueno for hurting her daughter.]]
** With her [[NeverMyFault inability accept any kind of responsibility]] regarding Shoko's bullying, [[EvilCannotComprehendGood not understanding why she should feel remorse nor why the others do]], her hypocritical attitude towards Shoya, and using CrocodileTears to make herself look innocent, it's very easy to hate Kawai. [[spoiler:Even more so after she blows her conversation with Shoya out of proportion and lets everyone know that he bullied Shoko in the past, especially [[BullyHunter Mashiba]], pulling the same exact stunt she did in the past and, in general, making everything far worse than it should be without getting any comeuppance other than a well-deserved TakeThatScrappy from Shoya.]]
*** [[spoiler:Given the revelations from chapter 45 to chapter 48, Ueno comes as slightly more sympathetic, given that she admits that she's aware of her personality issues; that she's a ClingyJealousGirl and has a crush on Ishida, hence why she dislikes Shoko; and that she just doesn't know how to handle it. Compare with Kawai who is still in denial about her involvement in Shoko's bullying and manages to make Ishida's accident and Shoko's suffering be all about her. The fact that chapter 48's climax sets up a confrontation between Kawai and Ueno, the fandom was actually cheering for Ueno because Kawai comes across as the bigger HateSink due to her near-pathological ItsAllAboutMe[=/=]NeverMyFault attitude.]]
* ''Literature/{{Slayers}}'': Pokota, the BrattyHalfPint prince who is almost as powerful as Lina yet remains rather bullheaded until the final few episodes. Even compared to the earlier secondary protagonists, even Sylphiel, he's either ignored or disliked.
* ''Anime/StrangeDawn'': Yuko for being an unlikable {{Jerkass}} and DesignatedHero.
* ''Manga/StrawberryOneHundredPercent'': The author stated that many of the fanletters she got said "I hate Chinami!". Considering Chinami was an incredibly superficial AttentionWhore during most of the series' run, the hatred is somewhat justified.
* ''Manga/SugarSugarRune'': Waffle. The title of episode 30, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin "The Annoying Witch Waffle Makes her Appearance"]], is already a bad sign, and things just go downhill from there. She's a BrattyHalfPint with a one-note personality (her obsession with Houx), and is [[TheMillstone always either getting into trouble herself or causing trouble for the main characters.]] Worse yet, she's an anime-original character. So fans know that any episode that features her prominently is guaranteed to be {{Filler}} that will not advance the main storyline.
* ''Sumarin Kanojo-tachi'' seems to almost be a social experiment in making the main character this. It stars a salaryman with a five-year-old daughter and a loving wife... whom he is cheating on with three different women. The manga portrays the trouble this brings him ''entirely sympathetically.'' He makes an occasional token effort to stop having affairs, but not very hard, partly due to being spineless. The first chapter opens with him about to jump in front of a train, then jumps back thirty days to explain how he got to that point, and almost everyone who reads it is hoping he is ''not'' prevented from going through with it -- "VisualNovel/SchoolDays Ending" has become something of a meme among readers.
* ''Anime/{{Symphogear}}GX'' is a divisive season, but the one part that sees pretty much universally bad reception is main character Hibiki's father, Akira, [[FanNickname better known in the fandom]] as "[[IronicNickname Top Dad]]." He's near-impossible to like in most of his showings, being a DirtyCoward, an EntitledBastard, an implied AbusiveParent, a guy who ''[[ParentalAbandonment abandoned his daughter]] because she was traumatized and bullied...'' All that would make for a pretty decent HateSink, except the series [[UnintentionallyUnsympathetic seemed to be under the impression]] that after learning all this, the audience would want Hibiki to [[EasilyForgiven forgive him]], [[LoveRedeems make him change his ways]], and [[DivorceIsTemporary reunite their family]]. Instead, the audience wanted Hibiki to put herself as far away from him as possible, preferably by punching him into space. It didn't help that her arc of angsting about him got old very quickly, taking up [[ArcFatigue far too much time]] in a season already notorious for [[OutOfFocus poorly managing]] its characters' screentime, nor that he was the ''third'' plotline in that season to revolve around a girl's father in some way, nor that the arc seemingly placed the burden of repairing their relationship on Hibiki. As a result, while he did show signs of redemption later on, it proved far too-little-too-late for the audience to swallow the final shot of the season being the seeming reunification of their family. The following season [[AuthorsSavingThrow took notice of this]] and [[ShooOutTheNewGuy wrote him out entirely]], later arcs confirming Hibiki's parents to be at most AmicableExes as of ''XV.''
* ''Anime/TamakoMarket'' has Dera, the animal mascot comic relief. He's contributed to many a viewer dropping the show with his antics.
* ''Anime/TenchiMuyo'': Sakuya from ''Anime/TenchiInTokyo'' gets a lot of flack for being a ReplacementGoldfish [[spoiler:despite being part of Yugi's EvilPlan]], due to a number of things, mostly the fact that many people preferred the established "pairings".
* ''Anime/TenkaiKnights'' has Orangor and the Beast King, Scorpidon, for basically being one of the main reasons for causing a HostileShowTakeOver FillerArc lasting 5 episodes (about 1/5th of season 2) that is seemingly completely irrelevant to the show's MythArc. Orangor has a shrill high pitched voice and a RealityWarper that comes off as more annoying that funny. He usually ends up having the Knights and Beag chase him around and doing pointless contests, which leads to them and Vilius's troops trying to entertain the Scorpidon. Scorpidon is disliked for dragging out the arc by finding a way to keep changing the rules, thus causing them to start over. Ends up with a TakeThatScrappy that in the Arc's Final episode the Knights and Villius get fed up with it and decide to just beat them up.
* ''Manga/ThreeLeavesThreeColors'': Yu and Sakura aren't well liked, mainly for introducing a [[LoveTriangle romantic subplot]] that even the non-{{Yuri Fan}}s view as unnecessary, due to the fact that both are in elementary school while Yoko is a high schooler.
* ''Anime/TokyoMajin'': Aoi Misato. It's bad enough she is totally useless, and doesn't really help the other main characters. However, she [[DistressBall constantly runs into danger trying to fight despite having no offensive powers and her friends telling to stay away]]. It gets worse when the characters begin to claim Aoi as courageous, despite her not really showing this trait. Also, Aoi wants to [[StupidGood save everyone, including the enemies who have committed mass murder]]. Even worse, [[spoiler:Aoi wanted to save the main villain (a person who committed a lot of murders), claiming "he didn't hurt anyone."]]
* ''Manga/TokyoMewMew'': Berry [[SpotlightStealingSquad completely stole spotlight]] from ''all'' of the main characters in the ''à la Mode'' manga. (Unsurprisingly, a lot of fans [[FanonDiscontinuity want to forget that ever happened]], which is easy because Reiko Yoshida, the author, was not involved with ''à la Mode'' anyway.)
* The official manga of the ''Franchise/TouhouProject'' series, ''Silent Sinner in Blue'', introduced two Scrappy characters, Watatsuki no Yorihime and Watatsuki no Toyohime. The fandom had already, based on characterization and despite their antediluvian history and {{Magitek}} prowess, portrayed [[SpaceElves Lunarians]] as some of the worst monsters available in a series that makes other man-eating monsters affable; but the fans still didn't expect to find them so [[CantArgueWithElves insufferably offensive]]. They didn't even win sympathy points when [[spoiler:it was revealed that [[UnwittingPawn they were the fools buried at the bottom ofeveryone else's schemes.]] Possibly because, [[ContinuityLockout as far as manga readers were concerned]] ([[AllThereInTheManual but not novel readers]]), [[KarmaHoudini they only very slightly suffered from the whole thing because all they lost was a single, even if a thousand years old, bottle of sake.]]]]
* ''Webcomic/TowerOfGod'': [[DirtyCoward Paracule]]. He betrays his team with an idiotic strategy and when one of his team members follows through with it, he turns his back at him because he doesn't trust him or his strategy at a crucial moment. He calls everybody trash and means it, sucks up to those more powerful when he immediately needs them, acts like he is in charge and has no sense of dignity whatsoever.
* ''Anime/TransformersArmada'': Of the human children in this iteration, all but Alexis are largely hated and seen as [[CreatorsPet creator's pets]]. Rad namely for being rather generic, Carlos for being a Hispanic EthnicScrappy, Billy for being a generic bully, and Fred for being whiny and a walking fat joke. Alexis however largely avoids this due to her role in Starscream's character arc and being the OnlySaneMan. Tellingly, their roles in ''Energon'' would be [[DemotedToExtra largely reduced]], but Alexis would have the most prominence of the three as a representative of the Earth Federation, whereas Rad's reduced screen time combined with his maturity and dynamic with the Jones' would get him {{rescued|FromTheScrappyHeap}}. Carlos meanwhile would have a much more reduced role even in comparison to his friends, while Fred and Billy [[ChuckCunninghamSyndrome don't even get mentioned.]]
* ''Anime/TransformersEnergon'':
** Kicker. He's annoying, pathetic, hates Transformers for stupid reasons, constantly complains, abuses the shit out of poor Ironhide, is often TheLoad for the Autobots, and is treated like [[CharacterShilling God's gift to the universe]]. It doesn't help that he's never called out on his actions. Creator/BradSwaile, who provided the English dub voice for Kicker, has gone on record saying that [[OldShame he felt bad about playing him]] after he gained mainstream success with ''Manga/DeathNote''.
** Most fans were on the fence about Cyclonus, an incompetent, lazy Decepticon with an annoying voice, but upon his reformatting into Snow Cat, he amassed an entire hatedom due to his constant, unneeded, nerve-grating yodeling.
* The anime adaptation of ''Manga/TwinStarExorcists'' introduced Kinako, a familiar for Benio. Kinako is nearly universally hated by both fans of the original manga as well as anime-only watchers because he's entirely superfluous to the plot. His appearances tend to consist of some combination of him berating Rokuro, fawning over Benio-sama, or shouting "Oh no! A [[OurDemonsAreDifferent Kegare]] has appeared!"
* ''Manga/UruseiYatsura'':
** Sakuranbo, aka "Cherry", is widely disliked for being a gluttonous mooch who, despite ''claiming'' he intends to help, usually ends up making things far worse for our cast instead. The tone is set literally from the first page of the manga, where he tries to "save" Ataru Moroboshi from jumping off a bridge after being dumped... and instead barges into him and shoves him into the river himself! As an indignant Ataru points out, he wasn't even remotely feeling suicidal. Interestingly, he's actually a Scrappy ''InUniverse'' as well, with [[TheFriendNobodyLikes everyone in the cast loathing him and seeking to avoid or harm him when he shows up]]. Not even his own niece likes him that much!
** Mr. Fuijinami, the man who has been trying to force his daughter to pretend to be a boy for her entire life and is willing to physically beat her into the role, is likewise loathed for being hands-down the most crazed, irresponsible, [[AbusiveParents abusive]] and obnoxious parental figure in the series... which is already [[AdultsAreUseless pretty scathing in its depiction of adults]] as selfish jerks and mindless gossips. His treatment of his daughter, despite being PlayedForLaughs, is actually rather hard to swallow, and the fact that StatusQuoIsGod means he ''never'' gets any real punishment for being such a creep. His negative reception has only gotten worse as [[ValuesDissonance time has passed on and people have become more sensitive about gender-related issues]], to the point he's actually considered something of a potential trigger for viewers/readers with gender-related issues.
* ''Anime/UtaNoPrinceSama'':
** Haruka (at least for fans of the anime) for not being as interesting as her male co-stars.
** Cecil is hated by both the anime and game fandoms for how [[EthnicScrappy out-of-place]] he feels.
* ''Manga/VictoryFive'': Chiri[[spoiler:/Bellion]], because despite this being a sequel series to the Anime/RobotRomanceTrilogy, she gets a large amount of focus even though she's a CanonImmigrant. Those who despise ''Victory Five'''s {{Fanservice}} are also put off with how she tends to receive a lot of nude scenes despite looking like a child.
* ''Manga/WaGaNaWaUmishi'': Rintarou. Hated from day one, even within the manga, he has scarcely gotten any better.
* ''Manga/WanderingSon'':
** Fumiya gets a lot of hate from fans. He likes Chiba, which is already a bad part since Chiba is popular with shippers. He has a manipulative streak and is too clingy for Chiba, who isn't interested. Then he [[spoiler:started ''dating'' Chiba, which hasn't sat well with a majority of the fandom since it seems like an AssPull]]. Even prior to that he outed Nitori without her permission and without even knowing her.
** Momoko is fairly disliked by a majority of the fandom. She [[FlatCharacter only exists]] to be clingy toward Chizuru, and to get on characters bad sides. Unlike most other characters in the series, she has no HiddenDepths, despite having been in the manga for several years.
** Maho gets a lot of hate, especially from anime fans due to scenes where she's shown to care for Nitori are excluded. She's seen as a BrattyTeenageDaughter who constantly bullies Nitori.
* ''Anime/WhisperOfTheHeart'': Shiho is not well-liked amongst fans, thanks to her overly bossy and demanding attitude towards Shizuku.
* ''Anime/WhisperedWords'': Poor Akemiya, who as [[TheOneGuy the lone guy]] in a [[YuriGenre yuri]] show doesn't get much love from the fans.
* ''Anime/WickedCity'': Giuseppe. Even although it's all part of an act to run a SecretTestOfCharacter, his entire "character" is so annoying that not all the viewers agree he gets RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap when he proves to be a good guy and a badass in his own right at the end of the film.
* Yoriko from ''Manga/YoureUnderArrest''. She comes off as a whiny, scaredy-cat [[TheLoad load]] who does more trouble then good. What bugs the fanbase more is that she gets one or two episodes a season all about her, compared to more popular characters like Aoi.
* ''Manga/ZatchBell'': Of the four main villains, Clear Note is by far the least liked, owing to his [[DiabolusExNihilo lack of connection to the main characters]], his extremely offbeat appearance, and his rather generic StrawNihilist motives (even [[GenericDoomsdayVillain likening himself to an atomic bomb]] at one point). Many fans felt he more or less existed to be the FinalBoss because... somebody has to.
