He holds his head and falls to his knees in complete despair. Before then, he'd promised her many times his duty as a cop compels him to protect her, only to lose her before the end.

Of course, the ''novelization'' of that scene hits a lot harder, mostly because we as readers have gotten to hear a lot of Ada's thoughts over the course of the story, and have consequently grown more attached to her as a character.
11	** Her death in the B scenario is arguably ''worse.'' Ada resigns herself to her doom, she and Leon partake in a LastKiss as shown in the page's image., and slumps lifeless in Leon's embrace. 12	* Sherry meeting her almost dead mother in Claire B: she's spent the entire game looking desperately for her parents, hoping they've made it through the apocalypse alright... and, when she finds her mom, she's dying from a severe head wound and all she has time to do is to apologize to Sherry for being such a bad mom before dying in her daughter's arms. And all the while, the game is playing one of the saddest pieces of music [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AQICKJNOiw]] in the entire ''series''. Then Claire, while trying to be respectful about it, has to hurry Sherry along since the self-destruct claxons are blaring at the moment. Poor Sherry doesn't even have time to properly grieve for her mom.
13	** Sherry's life before, during and after the game. Her parents do love her, but they spent most of their time engaging in horrific biological experiments so they didn't have much time for their only daughter. In arguably the canonical version, she gets "impregnated" by her mutated father and never even gets to say goodbye to her mother. THEN, she gets to spend the next 12+ years of her live in government captivity as a test subject, with only occasional visits from Claire to make her feel better.
14	* Annette's death in Claire A scenario: after failing to get through to her mutated husband William, she is fatally wounded and bleeding out fast when Claire catches up to her. Even in spite of Annette holding her at gunpoint for most of their interactions, Claire still offers to help her save Sherry. Annette hands over to Claire all the information she needs to make an antidote, and speaks her last words...

He was DrivenToSuicide, vowing after a 'staff meeting' (the police officers regrouping to discuss what they're going to do about the zombies) to blow his brains out due to letting a coworker [[HeroicSacrifice who saved his life at his own cost]] die due to being a coward... but the meeting was attacked by the zombies and he was torn to shreds.
