Just because this is a LighterAndSofter series, it doesn't mean that it can't have its share of moments that can make you cry.

[[folder:Episode 16: An End, The Greeed, & A New Rider]]
* '''Gamel.''' Full stop. He spent an entirety of the day trying to find Mezool, and when he does, he gets absorbed by her, resulting in the latter becoming massive monster.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Episode 20: The Decoy, Quantification, & The Flaming Combo]]
* Ankh spent the past two episodes trying to get his Core Medal back from Kazari, and at the end of the episode when he sees at Eiji using the Tajadol Combo to fly, he has a look of such desperate ''longing'' on his face. When he absorbs the Medals and tries to [[OneWingedAngel regenerate his wing]] only to have it [[ClippedWingAngel break apart]] on him, it's the ''[[YankTheDogsChain look]]'' on his face that makes you [[SympathyForTheDevil feel sorry for him.]] Watching him stumble away, without any biting words or rude gestures left in him, is just ''sad''.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Episode 34: The Best Friend, Uses, & Their Relationship]]
* Upon seeing Ankh stepping in to prevent Eiji in Putotyra Combo from going berserk, Kitamura realizes of how he has nothing to offer in his friend's fight against the Greeed and solemnly walks away.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Episode 40: Control, A Birthday Party, & The Disappearing Ankh]]
* This whole episode devoted to Ankh's CharacterDevelopment and how he can't bring himself to truly hurt Eiji or Hina. Unfortunately, he gets absorbed by Lost Ankh.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Episode 45: The Surprise Attack, The Proto Birth, & The Desire Of Love]]
* Mezool goes berserk and tries to eat humans alive just so she can feel genuine love. Ultimately she [[DiedInYourArmsTonight dies in the arms of]] Gamel, the only one who truly loved her--which she never noticed, [[EvilCannotComprehendGood because she was a Greeed]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Episode 46: The Eiji Greeed, The Double Births, & Ankh's Desire]]
* Gamel's death. After he goes on a rampage, converting everyone and everything he can find into Cell Medals in a futile attempt to bring Mezool back, he's defeated by Goto and Date. Once he returns to his human form, the audience sees him trying to give a lollipop to Mezool's last Core Medal. Then, the last thing he sees is a hallucination of Mezool where she happily accepts a lollipop from him. Poor, poor Gamel...
** What's worse, before Mezool died, he'd spent the entire day complete and ''not'' gone beserk like she did. If it weren't for her death, then he might have been fine...
* For an extra bit of tragedy, Gamel clings to the futile hope that Mezool still exists somewhere inside the last of her Core Medals and that he can revive her like Uva did for the two of them earlier, but the medal he has ''isn't'' the medal that contained her consciousness. She's well and truly ''gone.'' It's a small mercy Gamel dies before this HopeSpot for him was cruelly ripped away.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Finale: The Medals Of Tomorrow, Underwear, & Arms Held]]
* Ankh's glorious HeroicSacrifice, giving up all of his Core Medals to Eiji for one final Tajadol Combo to finally stop Dr. Maki and save the world. It hurts Eiji so hard '''he is willing to bring him back.'''
** When Eiji noticed Ankh has left Shingo to let him use the full Tajadol combo, all he can ask is "Ankh! Why?" and then almost have a breakdown into his Greeed form the moment he realizes Ankh's Taka medal is cracked. He knows this is going to be the end for his friend and still goes with it because that is his desire.
** Ankh's last words are pretty damn upsetting, too:
---> '''Ankh''': [[ButNowIMustGo I'm not the hand that you need help from anymore.]]

[[folder:Novel]]
* Ankh's backstory is pretty damn tragic. Before the Greeed first came to be centuries ago, he was not yet Ankh, but rather the King of Birds, a being who felt so free and desired only to see the beauty of the world. When the Tenth Medals were removed from the sets and the Greeed were born, Ankh's senses were distorted, leaving him unable to know the world as he once did. One day, he met a young blind girl who desired nothing more than to see, so that ''she'' could know the world's beauty. Despite his hatred of humans, Ankh found himself befriending the girl, and created the Condor Yummy to help grant her wish. But when her desire became reality, she saw the horror of the method by which her wish was granted: the Condor had been [[EyeScream gouging out the eyes of numerous random people]] [[ArtisticLicenseBiology until it found a pair that worked for the girl]]. She lost her mind at the sight of the carnage, and as she lay dying she asked Ankh to once again become the King of Birds, so that might protect the weak. Not long after, Ankh was betrayed by the King OOO, a man he believed to be his ally, and for all his trouble was sealed away for 800 years, leading into the first episode.
* Eiji's backstory. He had visited a village where he befriended a girl there. A civil war broke out though and the girl died and her village was destroyed. While he managed to escape alive his political family used his tragedy to gain votes and gain public support without considering his feelings in the matter. Not only that it is implied the money he donated to help the village was used to fund the civil war which means he probably felt guilt that he was partly responsible also.

[[folder: OOO 10th: Core Medal Resurrection]]
* Eiji tries to save an innocent life once again, but this time from King OOO. It's heavily implied he got fatally wounded there, and soon after when he, Ankh and Hina meets he tells them that the girl he tried to save died.
** The reveal that Eiji's body is actually dead and Goda is possessing it hits everyone like a speeding truck, Ankh himself noticed something suspicious and can only remain in TranquilFury, unable to say no to his deal.
* Ankh, after saving Eiji's dead body from Goda, finally gets to talk with the real Eiji, but Ankh's voice starts to falter the moment he asked why did he have to do it and get himself killed.
* The rebirth of Ankh happens because Eiji [[TheHeroDies sacrifices his life]] to save a girl and with his dying breath wishes for the Greeed to come back to life.
** The sight of the tough-as-nails Ankh shedding tears is enough to bring on the waterworks.
** Eiji sheds tears as well, he knows this will be his final battle, but he is ready to go with a smile.
* Before transforming using Eiji's body, Ankh uses the same words Eiji did in their last fight:
--> '''Ankh''': Eiji... Fine. If that's what you want... Eiji... Let's do this.
* Eiji's body was already too battered to live, even if Ankh fused with him for long like he did in the series proper to keep Shingo alive, so sadly Eiji has to be the one to go this time and leaves Ankh to mourn.
** Before that, Eiji pushes Ankh out to Shingo's body, so they could see eye-to-eye for one last time.
** The girl that should have died? Actually survived. Eiji gets to see that his efforts weren't in vain before dying as himself.
** Eiji's grave, marked by Tomorrow's Underwear, is the last shot we have from the movie.
--> '''Ankh''': You... Idiot...
