-> ''Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly, [[WartsAndAll the ill deeds along with the good]], [[BeAllMySinsRemembered and let me be judged accordingly]]. [[ShoutOutToShakespeare The rest... is silence]].''
-->-- '''Dinobot''', his last words.

[[folder:Season 1]]
* In "Victory", when it seems like the Maximals won the war, they decide to repair the Axalon and head back home. Dinobot opts to stay behind, fearing that if he returned to Cybertron he would be tried as a Predacon.
* In "Law Of The Jungle", Tigatron's actions inadvertently lead to the death of Snowstalker, a female tiger he... formed a bond with. OddFriendship or not, you can't deny the sadness when he mourns the loss of her, shedding a SingleTear in beast mode.
-->'''Tigatron:''' Goodbye, Snowstalker. Let your hunting ground shelter you now.

* Tigatron and Airazor's abduction in "Other Visits Part 1", as they clasp hands and vow that their sparks will always find one another.
** A subtle one from the same episode, but notable. Dinobot and Rattrap had destroyed the Predacon tower that was preventing the Maximals from warning Tigatron and Airazor in the first place, and were sharing a rare moment of open camaraderie with each other... until they are informed that they were "too late." Even Dinobot's spirits drop because of the loss of two respected allies.
* The episode "Code of Hero" is memorable for one thing: Dinobot's death.
** Even before his death, earlier in the episode there is a moment where Dinobot almost commits seppuku. At this point, he is still [[HeroicBSoD haunted by his actions.]] So while alone in his room, he takes his sword and struggles for a moment before tossing it away.
** Rattrap and Dinobot's argument before Dinobot heads out on what would be his ''final'' patrol. It's pretty clear that Rattrap was ''truly'' hurt by Dinobot's brief betrayal after becoming almost begrudging friends and his choice words for Dinobot, unknown to him, cut ''deep'' into the conflict he's feeling.
--->'''Rattrap:''' You know, I used to figure I had you pegged. "Oh yeah, he's a slag spoutin' saurian, ''but at least you know where he stands!''" (sighs deeply) [[DisappointedInYou Guess we live and learn.]]
** Later when the Maximals are rushing to try and get to the valley in time to save both the Proto-humans and Dinobot, Rattrap's grousing isn't aimed at the odds they're facing but the fact that he's terrified they're going to be too slow to save him. [[TonightSomeoneDies He's right.]]
** When the Maximals finally arrive on the scene and drive Megatron back, the first Maximal to make it to the scene besides Optimus is Rattrap, who lets out a horrified gasp at the state Dinobot's in and then makes a resigned whimper as he realizes his old frienemy isn't going to make it this time. It's clear from his earlier grousing, this and his farewell to Dinobot that he was suffering from a heinous case of PartingWordsRegret.
** Rattrap's final goodbye: "Like I said, you're just a blasted slag spouting saurian, but...[[IronicEcho it's nice to know where you stand."]] Dinobot replies with, "Upwind of you, for preference, Vermin." At first, Rattrap opens his mouth to make another comeback, but then he just smiles and says nothing, letting Dinobot have the last insult.
** Rattrap, who has been a constant irritant up until now, is the first to salute. This was after their last conversation was an argument over Dinobot's allegiance. The fact that this action made Rattrap of all Maximals salute him really puts it in perspective.
** Optimus Primal's words to Dinobot are especially touching, in light of the events after "Maximal, No More". Optimus may have doubted Dinobot's allegiance back then but he will never again doubt how much of a hero Dinobot truly was. Just by listening to his voice, it sounds like he's holding back tears.
--->'''Optimus Primal:''' He lived a warrior and died a hero. Let his spark join the Matrix... with the greatest of Cybertron.
** When Dinobot's spark comes out of his body, Rattrap, Cheetor, and Silverbolt all look initially surprised. However, Optimus and Rhinox's faces stay solemn. This could mean that they've seen someone else die before, and it explains their calm demeanor during Dinobot's final moments.
** Dinobot's funeral, where the other Maximals ''fly over his pyre in the [[DueToTheDead "missing man" formation]]''.
* The entirety of "Transmutate". The fact that it came right after the above episode increases the pain even more.
** When the Maximals study Transmutate, Rhinox assesses that with her childlike mind and destructive power, she is too dangerous and should be put in stasis lock. Silverbolt is outraged and tears into the Maximals about how they aren't acting any differently from the Predacons.
--->'''Silverbolt:''' Are we Predacons now? Do we destroy whatever does not fit our definition of perfection?
** It's easy to miss, but there's a scene in "Transmutate" when the Maximals are unable to get a hold of Silverbolt and Optimus Primal decides to go and find him personally, saying "I don't want to lose any more friends." After Dinobot's death, and Tigatron and Airazor's abductions earlier in the season, you can tell the whole conflict's starting to take a toll on him.
** The title character's death, with a haunting, pain-filled wail while trying to stop [[NiceJobBreakingItRivals Rampage and Silverbolt from fighting]], followed by an almost child-like final line:
--->'''Transmutate:''' Friend... good. Friend... dark. I... am... hurt.
** Rampage's wailing scream. For all his monstrosity, he had found a kindred spirit. Transmutate managed to bring out a semblance of decency out of a monster, and he ends up killing it.
** The sight of Rampage holding Transmutate's head in his hands as she dies is sad enough, but then you see him lightly caress her face with his thumb. Rampage was capable of showing genuine affection.

* In "Feral Scream, Part 1," Cheetor appears to die when Megatron's Transmetal 2 machine explodes. The episode establishes pretty quickly he's still alive, but Depth Charge (thinking otherwise) takes back a piece of his armor and breaks the news to Optimus. The look on ol' Big Bot's face is downright heartbreaking.
** In a later scene:
--->'''Optimus:''' ''[sadly]'' Cheetor. This is my fault, Rhinox. [[WasTooHardOnHim I was rough on him]], so he... so he tried to prove something.
* In "Proving Grounds" while Blackarachnia brushes off the notion that the Maximal's don't trust her, when she begins to think Silverbolt doesn't either she sounds [[NotSoStoic more hurt than she ever has before]], since he was the one person who's shown her nothing but faith and devotion. Silverbolt even has a minor MyGodWhatHaveIDone expression when she turns away from him after telling him that suspicion.
* Blackarachnia's DisneyDeath in "Crossing of the Rubicon" is certainly sad. Even if you're aware she comes back with a Transmetal upgrade.
* The deaths of Depth Charge and Rampage. The two were locked in an endless cycle of mutual torment, and in the end, they both managed to find a semblance of peace. This is in spite of the fact that Depth Charge meets his death NOT wanting to fight Rampage, but willingly goes to try and disable Nemesis himself (following Optimal Optimus' orders without any snark or reluctance) against the whole Predacon crew including Transmetal II Dinobot and Megatron.
* The sudden death of Tigerhawk. Two old friends brought back as one, in a very powerful body and ''the'' strongest combatant in the Beast Wars, and we barely get to see them again before they get horribly disintegrated. The ''Nemesis'' dispatches Tigerhawk so easily it is terrifying to know it's ''that'' strong.
* Quickstrike and Inferno are both killed in Megatron's crossfire after he takes over the ''Nemesis''. It's hard to mourn for them, but it's still a rather ignoble death for Megatron's most loyal followers.
* During the series finale, Dinobot II begins to remember who he was. Even worse, he could have saved himself but chose to stay on the Nemesis as it exploded and die with honor (perhaps as atonement for the things he did when he shared his spark with Rampage).
* Rattrap has a RunningGag of saying "We're all gonna die!", to which often another Maximal will respond with "[[PhraseCatcher Shut up, Rattrap]]!". But in the SeriesFinale?
-->'''Rattrap:''' (somberly) No power...no weapons...[[{{Catchphrase}} We're all gonna die...]]\
'''Rhinox:''' [[DarkestHour Yup]].
** Rattrap's tone plays a huge part. Usually when he drops "We're all gonna die" he says it with sarcasm or irritation. This time, he barely chokes it out and sounds ''resigned.''
