Although a far more campy and lighthearted Batman series it IS still a Batman series. Expect plenty of sad moments from the hero himself and those he partners with.
----
* Want to know how to make the deaths of Bruce's parents even ''more'' depressing? "Invasion of the Secret Santas!" reveals they were gunned down on Christmas in this continuity, after Bruce threw a tantrum over getting a family heirloom of his dad's rather than the Zorro figure he wanted; just knowing he was unwittingly ruining his last ever Christmas with his parents would be heartbreaking enough, but the second flashback reveals that the Waynes only went to the movies that night because they were trying to cheer Bruce up about the gift. At the very least, young Bruce admits he loved the movie.
** And in "Chill of the Night!" Batman gets sent back in time to meet his parents before they died. He gives Martha the biggest hug ever...
* The death of Platelet in "Journey to the Center of the Bat!", who was more loyal than a typical white blood cell. Atom beats up Platelet's destroyer with everything he has. Even though he later says that "erythrocytes" never last long, we know better.
* G.I. Robot sacrificing itself in the teaser of "The Plague of the Prototypes!" is surprisingly sad.
* Most of the heroes in "Game Over for Owlman!" treat tracking down Batman (who had been framed by [[EvilTwin Owlman]]) as another day at the office... with the exception of Plastic Man, who calls him out for all the speeches he gave him about staying on the straight and narrow. While the others treat Batman no different than any other criminal they have to catch, O'Brian treats Batman's supposed turn to crime as ''a personal betrayal''. The fact that Batman doesn't make any effort to explain himself (other than a brief attempt with Green Arrow) doesn't help.
* AQUAMAN'S depression in the beginning of "Mystery in Space!". Seeing the usually exuberant hero who always wants to fight for justice and his friends so down in the dumps, questioning the point of everything he does is really jarring. Even ''Batman'' finds the sudden personality shift disturbing.
** The exact reason why AQUAMAN was in his funk to start with is very tragic, especially if you love whales. He failed to save a pod of them from being illegally hunted. While there is no blood, the sight of their dead bodies being hoisted onto the ship is just… horrible.
* Red Tornado makes the Tornado Champion to function as a son. The Tornado Champion becomes the Tornado Tyrant after his hatred of humanity reaches its peak, and Red Tornado is forced to kill his robotic son. Even Red Tornado is saddened by this, and he has no apparent emotion.
** What really drives this scene home is what Red Tornado says to Champion before killing him.
--->'''Red Tornado:''' "Declaration: You cannot mock love. For it was love that created YOU."
** You can't help but feel sorry for Champion before his FaceHeelTurn. After saving 2 children from a fire, they react in fear of him, and the father accuses him of hurting them. He's saddened by this despite Tornado's attempts to cheer him up, and goes ''ballistic'' when Major Disaster attacks Tornado. This causes Tornado to decide to shut him down, and Champion actually ''pleads'', in heartbreaking tones, for him to reconsider. Granted, Champion had already removed the shut-down component from his body, but still... *SOB*
** What makes all of this worse? Champion's FaceHeelTurn might not even be his fault, his emotional programming may have been damaged by Major Disaster's cheap shot near the beginning of the episode.
** In the Red Tornado's ChristmasEpisode, he is trying to find the TrueMeaningOfChristmas (and he is trying to do so with the Scientific Method). A kid mentions a "warm tingly feeling", which Batman sagely warns him would, in his case, warrant an immediate trip to get repaired. Thus, when the Red Tornado is damaged, saving the day, he suddenly cheerfully declares that he's experiencing a warm tingly feeling.... *boom*. He gets better, mind you, but if you didn't ''know'' that he would get better...
* B'wana Beast's HeroicSacrifice. You can't watch it and ''not'' shed a tear.
** Vixen's quiet grief at the funeral is even worse.
* The [[HeroicSacrifice death]] of the Doom Patrol. The crowd chanting 'We're all the Doom Patrol' afterwards also counts as a SugarWiki/{{Heartwarming Moment|s}}.
* In "The Knights of Tomorrow", when Bruce and Selena are killed by Joker Jr.'s attack on the Batman museum.
** [[spoiler: Damian blaming himself for it (much like how Bruce himself blames himself for ''his'' parents' deaths), because he wouldn't accept his legacy.]]
* The scene where Batman finally meets Joe Chill and reveals his true identity. For Chill, it's something closer to NightmareFuel, but it's a Tear Jerker for the audience, for a multitude of reasons: 1) Batman is THIS close to breaking his one rule, he's [[BewareTheNiceOnes THAT]] angry at Chill, and 2) you can tell, that when Batman's looking at Chill, [[TraumaButton he's reliving the worst night of his entire life]].
-->'''Batman:''' ''[[TranquilFury Joe]] '''[[TranquilFury Chill]]'''''. (''violently disarms Chill of his handgun, before slamming him into a desk'') You're the slinking coward who killed Thomas and Martha Wayne!
-->'''Joe Chill:''' Th-that was a lifetime ago!
-->'''Batman:''' (''snarling'') Yes. ''MY'' LIFETIME! You took them without mercy or ''regret'', and in cold blood, Chill!
-->'''Joe Chill:''' H-how do you know this?! How could you possibly...?
-->'''Batman:''' (''gets even angrier'') I '''know''' because I watched it happen. I '''KNOW''' BECAUSE I AM THE SON OF THE MAN YOU MURDERED! (''pulls off his mask'') '''I AM ''BRUCE WAYNE!'''''
-->'''Joe Chill:''' [[LittleNo No...]] (''realizes'') ''[[OhCrap ...oh,]] '''[[OhCrap no!]]''''' (''attempts a swing at Wayne, only to receive a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown'')
** And even after all that, Batman ''still'' tries to save Joe after he's crushed under rubble shaken loose when Batman tried to wrestle a laser rifle out of Joker's hands. Operative word being "tries" as Joe passes of his injuries, taking the secret of Batman's identity with him. His final words are a tearjerker too.
--->'''Joe Chill:''' Funny... ''(groans in pain)'' Because, I started you off as Batman... those other mugs made me pay. Yeah... I-I guess you got me after all. ''(death rattle)''
** The Spectre shows Batman who pulled the trigger by taking him to when Joe Chill visited Lew Moxon at Blackgate Penitentiary and offered to get in good by evening the score against Thomas Wayne. Moxon flippantly agreeing to it prompts this furious response from Batman.
--->'''Batman:''' So, just like that, he signed away their lives. [[ButForMeItWasTuesday So casually, without remorse, without blinking a filthy eye]]. WHERE WAS JUSTICE?!
* The ending of "Mitefall". It is both a {{SugarWiki/Heartwarming Moment|s}} and a TearJerker at the same time. Goodnight.
* Billy's life in "The Power of Shazam!" is pretty sad: bullies at the orphanage, a strict administrator running the place, and looking on sadly at kids who have parents. He's so certain there's a kinship with Black Adam, but he has to accept in the end that he was wrong. It makes it all the more heartwarming when he finally gets what he wanted most.
-->'''Shazam:''' Captain, what troubles you?\
'''Captain Marvel:''' Black Adam. When I saw that symbol on his chest, I thought I had the chance for a family again. Guess by now I should know better than to get my hopes up like that.
** Even Batman himself knew what it's like of being an orphan.
* Plastic Man in "Cry of the Freedom Fighters". He just wants to be part of a team and mentions that not even the Justice League was willing to take him. Considering the League in this version has [[{{Jerkass}} Guy Gardner and Captain Atom]] as members it's not hard to view it as an intentional snub to Plastic Man.
* Ted Kord's HeroicSacrifice in "Fall of the Blue Beetle!". Even Batman looks horrified.
* Speaking of Blue Beetle, "Menace of the Madniks!" sees Booster Gold travel back in time to hang out with Ted Kord only to make a serious mess in the present. After spending the rest of the episode getting chewed out by Batman for it, Booster admits that he just wanted one more day with his best friend, causing Bats to softly admit Ted was his friend too. And to really twist the knife, at the very end of the episode, Ted goes off to Science Island where he performs his aforementioned sacrifice.
* The death of the first Black Canary in "The Golden Age of Justice!". No heroic sacrifice, no grand battle to save the world, she was helping the rest of the JSA stop a building fire when debris fell on her. With her dying breath she makes Wildcat promise to keep her daughter safe.
* Though the changes Bat-Mite makes are largely played for laughs, among the additions are a wife for Batman as well as a daughter and a Scrappy clone for Ace. As in he created them out of thin air, not grab a random woman and child. And then they disappear. There's something heartbreaking about being literally born yesterday, enjoying life and fun with your family and friends, and then suddenly it all goes away before you even have a chance to figure out what's happening or say good bye. They are not present at the party either.
