Go To

* The song "Illness and Ruins" from ''[[Franchise/DotHack .hack//Roots]]'' sounds extremely similar to the intro song from ''Film/EdwardScissorhands''
* The opening theme of ''Manga/LaidBackCamp'' (''Yurucamp''), ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEeTwzOldIs "SHINY DAYS!! Atarashii kaze!"]]'' is very similar to Music/TheJacksonFive's ''I Want You Back'' and ''ABC'', and the internet [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMTaPgnSVu0 didn't]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72FJSwegork pass]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5oXojwBkEI up]] on the opportunity.
* Anime/GodzillaSingularPoint: “Alapu Upala” sounds very similar to the classic “Mothra’s Song”. The series composer stated that Mothra’s Song was a major inspiration as well as a ripe opportunity for a MythologyGag.
* ''Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}}'''s opening theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCWVMZoRHhY Fire Wars]] by Music/JAMProject sounds very much like Music/BonJovi's ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aqc3VTpz9HQ You Give Love a Bad Name ]]''.
** Someone even [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imFOIwEwHbA put the latter to the intro]] and it surprisingly synchs up very well with the animation.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogSFZJXRC-8&t=9m34s "Tension" music]] from ''{{Literature/Slayers}}''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtxFAA0xlg8&t=2m54s "Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part One"]] by Music/KingCrimson. You may notice a slight similarity.
** "Beginning", from ''Mobile Suit Gundam III'' sounds very similar to Crimson's ''Prince Rupert Awakes''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0hiaikO9Ds Observe]].
* From 1974's ''Anime/JackAndTheBeanstalk1974'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z9hB0yC69w No One's Happier Than I]] sounds eerily similar to the Music/{{Carpenters}}' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1u6628Rdqs Top Of The World]]
* "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqPVz101nd0 Uprising]]" sung by the English rock band Music/{{Muse}} takes its inspiration from the song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avJqMDaaDNs Pray For You]] sung by Cindy Wood from the Opening of the 1983 anime film ''Anime/Golgo13''.
* The lyrics of the song "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q334lwleCTA Golgo 13 and I]]" sung by Cindy Wood from the 1983 anime film Golgo 13 sounds closely familiar to the 1970 spaghetti western [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ5Osst18sU Opening theme]] of [[Film/TheSabataTrilogy Indio Black/Adios Sabata]] composed by Bruno Nicolai.
* Orochimaru's theme in ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'' borrows part of its melody from [[Music/JohannSebastianBach Bach's]] Music/ToccataAndFugueInDMinor.
** The opening to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4v3xvUY4dM Sarutobi]], the Third Hokage's BattleThemeMusic, is an almost exact copy of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jfso3CiHwN8 Ozzy Osbourne's 'Bark at the Moon']]...
* ''Anime/BombermanJetters'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZaSgnYLceQ Mujoe's theme]] sounds more like a ShoutOut to the Series/{{Seinfeld}} [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V2sBURgUBI theme]], as it uses ALL the instruments and arrangement of the infamous theme, but with just little changes on some notes.
* The theme "Nunnally" from ''Anime/CodeGeass'' uses the same melody, same lead instrument, SAME [[{{Scales}} KEY]], and a similar chord progression to the main theme from an obscure Music/EnnioMorricone-scored film, ''Malena''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzJxHw4JF10#t=0m52s Hear for]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK0msdFrqt8#t=1m16s yourself.]]
* For whatever reason, Gojou Shioji from ''Anime/ExcelSaga'' appears to have "[[Music/{{Queen}} Another One Bites the Dust]]" as his theme song, with a few courtesy notes thrown in.
** The second episode uses a parody of Music/{{Metallica}}'s "Sad but True."
** The track "Ikamino Gekiban" sounds like the theme song from ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' for some reason.
* ''Nandemo Q'' was a children's television show which aired on Creator/{{NHK}} between 1995 and 2004 that featured educational Suspiciously Similar Songs of popular western songs that often featured {{Pun Based Title}}s such as "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20cAmTQgwrU Hotaru California]]".
* ''Literature/FullMetalPanic'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjVmU8y4SiY "Tokkou Yarou"]], a background theme used in that series is incredibly similar to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyz_2DEah4o the theme]] from ''Series/TheATeam''. The title is actually "Tokkou Yarou?" / 「特攻野郎?」(yes, with question mark) which means something along the lines of "Gung-ho guys". Lampshaded with a cameo as a cellphone ring tone and someone says it sounds like an old American TV show (which indeed was called ''[[https://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki_pages/25421 Tokkou Yarou A-Chiimu]]'' when broadcast in Japan).
** Also, in ''Anime/FullMetalPanicFumoffu'', the ending song, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1whm9gc0hmk "Kimi Ni Fuku Kaze"]] sounds VERY similar to Music/{{Santana}} and Music/MichelleBranch's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKLnmMacEB4 "The Game of Love."]]
** "Tokku Yarou" is also used in ''Fumoffu'' for the next episode preview. ''The Second Raid'' switches it out for "[[https://youtu.be/rFYyQ0J86p8 Shissou]]", a piece suspiciously similar to [[https://youtu.be/l8syGlAMTKA the theme]] from ''Series/{{Airwolf}}''.
* ''Anime/HyperdimensionNeptuniaTheAnimation'' has an end credits theme that has a soundalike of Brian Culbertson's "Colors of Love", entitled "Neptune Sagashite" by Afilia Saga.
* The opening to ''Manga/InterspeciesReviewers'' sounds ''very'' similar to the Music/VillagePeople's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CS9OO0S5w2k "YMCA"]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmGuy0jievs "In the Navy"]]. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zxHGxKY5OE Just listen to them played together.]] This also overlaps with VisualPun in a meta-way: Both the manga and the anime adaptation are ''literally'' about people that live in a small village.
* ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'':
** One of Shirou Sagisu's pieces ("[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4u6V6UisBz8 Decisive Battle]]") is suspiciously similar to a Music/JohnBarry composition, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLpciaZzONY "007"]], used in ''Film/FromRussiaWithLove''.
** Another example ("Barefoot in the Park") is suspiciously similar to "The Girl from Ipanema" used when the characters are having a coffee break.
** Shinji's theme, "I. Shinji" is basically a minor-key version of "God Save the Queen" mashed-up with "Film/TheGodfather Waltz".
** On the soundtrack for ''Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance'', the track "2EM05_KK_B09" sounds suspiciously similar to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4JpDUMXBqo "The Third Man Theme"]] by Anton Karas.
** Another example of this, also from the soundtrack of "Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance", in which the track "L'Agresseur (2EM03)" [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bzLh0UCKrU]] sounds pretty much the same like "Dennis steals the Embryo" [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67kUTkrB_sY]] from the soundtrack to ''Film/JurassicPark''.
** "Misato's Theme" also shadows parts of "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" which has been covered by artists like Diana Ross and The Beach Boys.
** "Komm, Susser Tod" -- that song that plays when [[spoiler:everyone gets turned into Tang]] -- sounds a lot like [[Music/TheBeatles "Hey Jude"]].
*** The slide guitar solo at the end of the song owes a bit to the ending solo of Pink Floyd's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmeyocnsEIk&feature=player_detailpage#t=315s High Hopes]].
* In what can only be called a hilarious example of FollowTheLeader , ''Anime/RahXephon'' has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNHdbiZPdOo The Chariot]], aka Ayato's kill music, which is a hybrid of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5Qo9iAB9q0 "Decisive Battle"]] with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHRBFTWSguY "The Beast 2"]] (the theme of berserk Eva-01). Since "Decisive Battle" already sounds suspiciously similar to "007" above, this turns it ''doubly'' suspicious.
* The Italian version of ''Manga/MermaidMelodyPichiPichiPitch'', which composed all-new songs, made many of them sound suspiciously like the songs they were replacing. Try comparing [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVkfIRhbYd8 Assoluto Amore]], Sara's VillainSong, with its original, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kkazt9DMCyU Return to the Sea]], and see what we mean.
** A closer similarity is within the original version of the series itself, and intentional: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eJrg-k2EIA Tsubasa wo Daite]], Michel's VillainSong, and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geTcMZFQr5k Ashita ga Mienakute]], Michal's ImageSong. Their names already matched, as did the names of their birds, and they couldn't be active at the same time... but when their ''songs'' matched, all bets about coincidence were off.
* One episode of ''Manga/{{Gintama}}'' has a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfiLVdEceO8 Suspiciously Similar Song to the Rocky theme]]. This gets [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] by Gintoki and Kagura.
** Speaking of ''Franchise/{{Rocky}}, the boxing OVA ''Bewitching Nozomi'' featured a Suspiciously Similar Song to "[[Film/RockyIII Eye of the Tiger]]".
** Another Suspiciously Similar Song of the same often accompanied the Bear's appearance in ''Gakuen''.
** In Gintama, there's also a Supiciously Similar Song of ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar'''s ''Ai wo Torimodose''. Hilariously, the song lyrics only consist of the parts of "You Wa Shock" changed into "I Am Shock".
** Gintama's ''Manga/DragonBall'' parody ep introduced the song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbyVUdeCY0g&feature=player_detailpage#t=588s "Dondake"]] (basically a Japanese "WTF?"), a Suspiciously Similar Song to Hironobu Kageyama's ''Dragon Ball'' themes.
* ''Manga/SoulEater'' occasionally uses a music piece that sounds like that damn Milkshake song.
** And one that sounds oddly like the opening to "[[Music/TheRollingStonesBand Gimme Shelter]]".
* The ''Anime/SCryed'' theme "Reckless Fire" sounds slightly similar to Music/RickyMartin's "She Bangs".
* ''Manga/AirGear'' was inspired by the ''VideoGame/JetSetRadio'' series, and has several background songs that are soundalikes to the music used in those games. Compare: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUvBiG1U7yM Not Hummin' But Vibin']] (Air Gear) vs. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EElSzVpbHeg Hummin' The Bassline]] (Jet Set Radio); [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNpiuVzJHbE Sky 2 High]] (Air Gear) vs. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QywxbS4pzsM Fly Like A Butterfly]] (Jet Set Radio Future).
** [[JustifiedTrope Justified]]: Hideki Naganuma composed both of the last two songs (he two songs for ''Air Gear'' under a pseudonym, so as to not break his contract with Sega). Not Hummin' But Vibin was composed by Masao Mase under Naganuma's supervision.
** ''Air Gear'' also has a ''non''-JSR example in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSutWNf_4Vg Rise Electric]]", which is suspiciously similar to Europe's "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZkllM8znx4 The Final Countdown]]".
* The TrainingMontage in the first episode of ''Anime/GunBuster'' uses a musical cue essentially ripped off from Music/{{Vangelis}}' theme from ''Film/ChariotsOfFire''. So much so, in fact, that Creator/StudioGainax ordered the US distributors to replace the music in the North American re-release.
** Public Domain Example: The last episode uses a conspicuously-synthesised piece of music that sounds suspiciously similar to the Hallelujah chorus. Considering that the original song would later turn up in ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'', this example's rather perplexing.
* In an earlier example of ripping off Vangelis, the music from the first scene in the original ''Anime/BubblegumCrisis'' [=OVAs=] is suspiciously similar to the opening theme from ''Film/BladeRunner''.
** "Konya wa Hurricane" is very clearly an attempt to create a song in the style of Music/JimSteinman, particularly those from ''Film/StreetsOfFire''.
** The intros to "Victory" and "Akuma to Tenshi no Kiss" are derived from different parts of the intro to "Nowhere Fast", the opening theme from ''Streets of Fire''.
** The intro and chorus of "Mysterious Night" copy French singer Jeanne Mas's 1985 song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_iudxvCPpE "Johnny Johnny"]].
** The guitar riff in "Say Yes" from OVA 7 resembles Music/{{U2}}'s "Where the Streets Have No Name".
** The entire melody of "Hateshitenai Tabi", the opening theme from ''Bubblegum Crash'', is plagiarized from Filipina singer Joey Albert's 1982 song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNl4gZfxGIw "Larger Than Life"]].
* The opening theme to ''Anime/TheBigO'' sounds suspiciously like Music/{{Queen}}'s "Film/{{Flash Gordon|1980}}". This one was also replaced for the USA DVD re-issue, although not from Creator/AdultSwim. The full version also contains a tiny hint of "Bohemian Rhapsody"; it appears the artist is a major Queen fan.
** "Roger, I love you, but we only have 14 hours to save Paradigm City."
** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnaQZgZaOkg second theme tune]] is heavily inspired by Barry Gray's theme tune for [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpMcHro9Dfc UFO]].
* ''Anime/BattleProgrammerShirase''[='s=] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXF1bVF_1RQ opening tune]] bears an uncanny resemblance to, you guessed it, Rick Astley's ''"Never Gonna give You Up"''.
* Kogarashi's Theme from ''Manga/KamenNoMaidGuy'' is suspiciously similar to the ''Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean'' theme (or a pastiche thereof). This doesn't prevent it from being awesome.
* An ImagineSpot in ''Manga/LuckyStar'' of a trip to the dentist as a SuperRobot show is accompanied by a brief Suspiciously Similar Song to the ''Anime/{{Gunbuster}}'' theme "Active Heart".
** "Yuuchou Sentai Dararenja" has a part that sound suspiciously like a remix of Snake Man's theme from ''VideoGame/MegaMan3'', and "Ore no Wasuremono" is reminiscent of Storm Eagle's theme from ''VideoGame/MegaManX''
** The repeated use of an almost-but-not-quite "Gunbuster March" cue.
** And the 1942 beat used a few times... And Series/TwentyFour, and... A lot of others.
** Gravity by MOEV sounds very much like Noizy Tribe by m.o.v.e. Fitting, since it's played during the ''Manga/InitialD'' parody.
** The ''Full Metal Panic''[=/=]''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars'' parody even features "Tokko Yaraou?", mentioned above in that series.
* The music from ''Mr. Lonely Chaser'', theme song for the TransformingMecha show ''Anime/SuperHighSpeedGalvion'' sounds suspiciously similar to Music/MichaelJackson's "Beat It". The lyrics, however are something else altogether.
* One of the riffs from ''VisualNovel/{{Clannad}}'''s [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1z7CyPFtq0 Dango Daikazoku / Chiisana Te No Hira -- Rock Version]] sounds like "Oh Come All Ye Faithful".
* [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Viral]]'s {{Leitmotif}} ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZz74yFLkvg Nikopol]]'' sounds a lot like Music/LinkinPark's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTlgHM6qLnY Points of Authority]], minus the rap bits.
* It's a lot harder to recognize than most examples, but [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgHNzgZn2SM Shinken]] from one of the ''Manga/LoveHina'' soundtracks is suspiciously similar to "Eye Of The Tiger".
* In ''Anime/{{SonicX}}'', the X-Tornado theme from the eighth episode can be similar to the music that is played when Tina uses her psychic powers from the film ''Film/FridayThe13thPartVIITheNewBlood''.
* The ''Manga/{{Trigun}}'' theme is eerily similar to Music/LedZeppelin's "Black Dog".
* A recurring piece in ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanoha'', from ''A's'' on, is suspiciously similar to the Franchise/{{Metroid}} main titles.
** Don't forget [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsSjvKOdL8M Ace of Aces]] sounding a great deal like the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLlJD7EAsYg Main Title]] from ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack''.
* In ''Manga/DeathNote'', one of Mello's themes sound like the ''Film/Terminator2JudgmentDay'' theme.
** The ''Death Note'' soundtrack is actually [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYmIKcP7Nbc quite notorious for this.]] For instance, L's theme sounds like [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYmIKcP7Nbc Tubular Bells]] from ''Film/TheExorcist''.
** The instrumentation of the Death Note theme sounds similar to "O Fortuna".
* "Ark" from Music/YokoKanno's ''Anime/BrainPowerd'' soundtrack starts off like the ''Terminator'' theme with bagpipes. Och, I'll be back, laddie!
* Also by Music/YokoKanno, "Jig" from ''Anime/TurnAGundam'' resembles John Williams' "Letting Off Steam" from ''Far and Away''.
* In ''Anime/GenesisOfAquarion'', Kanno's piece "Exodus" borrows from "Victorius Titus", from the ''[[Theatre/TitusAndronicus Titus]]'' score by Elliot Goldenthal.
* Somebody in charge of ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'''s soundtrack seems to be [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfyHeQO7-Ww a fan]] of [[Theatre/ThePhantomOfTheOpera Andrew Lloyd Weber]]...
* Near the end of the ''Manga/AhMyGoddess'' OVA, a Suspiciously Similar Song to [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%27amour_est_bleu "L'amour est bleu"]] shows up in the scene where Keiichi works several part-time jobs to buy Belldandy a ring.
* The soundtrack for ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam0083StardustMemory'' is credited to Mitsuo Hagita, but his credit should probably say "Assembled from other sources by", because nearly the entire soundtrack seems to be directly ripped from various American and European films. The full list assembled so far can be found on the show's [[YMMV/MobileSuitGundam0083StardustMemory YMMV page]].
** On a less plagiarism-tastic note, ''0083'''s first opening [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeq36PYSdJU "The Winner"]] sounds somewhat like "Danger Zone" from ''Film/TopGun'' and the second opening, "Men of Destiny", resembles Top Gun's "Mighty Wings".
* ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamF91 Gundam F91]]'' is ''full'' of Suspiciously Similar Songs to ''Franchise/StarWars'' pieces, most notably the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDiTaoTcoL0#t=0m45s Imperial March]].
* And ''Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam''s dub theme had to be changed because one of the original openings sounded a little too close to George Michael's '80s hit "Careless Whisper".
** The opening and ending themes in Japan were written by Neil Sedaka (for which he made Suspiciously Similar Songs to some of his past works).
* "Rush! Issei and Yohshi" from the score of ''Manga/GiantRobo'' OVA 2 is a suspiciously similar to the ''How the West Was Won'' theme.
** "Vogler's Landing" from OVA 3 rips off a passage from Igor Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring".
* Music/YokoKanno pulled this off again several times in ''Anime/MacrossFrontier'':
** [[https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/159123184/11%20-%20Big%20Boys.mp3 "Big Boys"]] sounds suspiciously like [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvnMQ9Z5K3g "Will & Elizabeth"]] from ''Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean''.
** [[https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/159123184/18%20-%20The%20Target.mp3 "The Target"]] takes more than a few cues from [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHGXfFJ2TMk the TIE Fighter theme]] from ''Franchise/StarWars''.
*** By the same token, the TIE Fighter theme can be considered a modification of the magic spell from "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", which "The Target" also resembles.
** The first twenty seconds of [[https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/159123184/13%20Sayonara%20no%20Tsubasa%20~%20the%20end%20of%20triangle.mp3 Sayonara no Tsubasa ~ the end of triangle]] sound suspiciously like the first seventeen seconds of school food punishment's [[https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/159123184/01%20-%20futuristic%20imagination.mp3 futuristic imagination]] with some parts switched around.
* Speaking of sorcerers, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvvN1DpLdH0 "Materialise"]] from Kuniaki Haishima's ''Anime/MyOtome0Sifr'' soundtrack copies verbatim from the Eagles' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rOMGIbY-9s "Journey of the Sorcerer"]], better known as the theme from ''Franchise/TheHitchhikersGuideToTheGalaxy''.
* Music/YukiKajiura isn't immune from this either. The track [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUSAzjEwsXo "Sacrifice"]] from ''Manga/TsubasaReservoirChronicle'' shares many similarities with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOtoIBrBAYE "Navras"]] from ''Film/TheMatrixRevolutions''.
** Listen to Handel's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91sfrw106xs "Sarabande"]], better known as the theme music to ''Film/BarryLyndon''. Now listen to the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KvVli3poq8 main theme]] from the seventh ''Literature/TheGardenOfSinners'' movie. [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything Notice anything?]]
* Episode 7 of ''Manga/MyBrideIsAMermaid'' has a Suspiciously Similar Song to Wagner's "Music/RideOfTheValkyries".
** So does ''Anime/PonyoOnTheCliffByTheSea''; or rather, Music/JoeHisaishi reworks the ''Ponyo'' theme InTheStyleOf "Music/RideOfTheValkyries".
** ''Mermaid'' also has a Suspiciously Similar Song to the ''Film/Terminator2JudgmentDay'' theme (the iconic metallic beat) because, well, one of the characters IS the Terminator.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwSgaLMkcb8 "Daybreak Symphony"]] from ''Anime/YakitateJapan'' sounds quite suspiciously like [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx3m4e45bTo a certain other Britpop "Symphony"]]... with the "We Will Rock You" beat also thrown in just for good measure.
* The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xz43HbQA3KU opening theme]] of ''Tenamonya Voyagers'' is suspiciously similar to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph6GIWOCiO8 theme]] from Mel Brooks' ''Silent Movie''. Both are played by marching bands.
* ''VisualNovel/UminekoWhenTheyCry'': Jessica's image song, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHlhrhPKgPU Dokkyun Heart]] is a faster-sung and slightly cheerier version of [[Franchise/TouhouProject Tsurupettan]].
* One of the BGM tracks in ''Anime/CoyoteRagtimeShow'' sounds strikingly similar to the ''Series/MissionImpossible'' theme song.
* The BGM track from ''Manga/KOn'' called [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6amYBsNtWM "Pinch Daisuki!"]] is suspiciously similar to the 1970s synthesizer piece [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y_VHOCp7Lw "Popcorn"]].
** And [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JraVFiq2wQ "Happy End"]] sounds a lot like [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQNqk54HPdE "Daydream Believer"]].
** A Suspiciously Similar Song to Pachelbel's Canon plays during the graduation ceremony in K-ON!! episode 24, which is peculiar because, again, it's in the public domain.
** When the music store clerk tells the history of Sawako's guitar, images of Music/EricClapton, [[Music/{{ACDC}} Angus Young]], [[Music/BlackSabbath Tony Iommi]] and [[Music/TheWho Pete Townshend]] are shown, along with Suspiciously Similar Songs to Sunshine of Your Love, Thunderstruck, Paranoid, and Won't Get Fooled Again respectively.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC9MLTpqt8g The opening riff in "Cagayake GIRLS!"]] sounds oddly similar to the melody that occurs 20 seconds into [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clcirPeGqMs&t=21s a piece]] of music from the unreleased UsefulNotes/SegaGenesis version of the game ''Time Trax''.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_7BbkdojXE Air Of Northern Countries]] from [[TheMovie the movie]] is practically an instrumental cover of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXKFbOTQ1HQ Where The Streets Have No Name]] by U2.
* There are so many examples of this across ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' media that recurring composer Kenji Yamamoto[[note]]not the one from ''Franchise/{{Metroid}}''![[/note]] was publicly blacklisted for plagiarism in 2011. As a result, all of his music for ''Anime/DragonBallZKai'' was replaced with Shunsuke Kikuchi's score for the original anime and ''VideoGame/DragonBallZBudokai [[UpdatedRerelease HD Collection]]'' replaced his tracks with songs from the ''[[VideoGame/DragonballZBudokaiTenkaichi Budokai Tenkaichi]]'' games. Some examples from Yamamoto:
** The ''DBZ'' incidental piece [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMYt9sGOcTU "Battle Point: Unlimited"]] sets a new bar by ripping off ''an entire album'': ''A Secret Wish'', by German SynthPop band Music/{{Propaganda}}. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qda4OW8TTpE This video]] even recreates the song with samples from ''A Secret Wish''.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZSnlZoTR-Y "A New Foe Rears His Head"]] so blatantly rips off the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDcPv6olllQ opening theme]] of ''Film/TerminatorSalvation'' that it almost feels like a parody: it was used for ''Dragon Ball Kai''[='=]s version of the Android Saga, which itself is a send-up of ''Film/TheTerminator''.
** While not composed by Yamamoto, compare [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woHtuw_xtcc "Super Buu's Theme"]] from the English dub of DBZ with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLVYAerVZHs Marmalade]] by Music/SystemOfADown. Both songs have near identical riffs throughout.
* The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IV_KYL62kaw# first opening]] of ''Manga/WeddingPeach'' lends some notes from 1960s singer [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5aeeSmkPwQ# France Gall]].
** ''Manga/SugarSugarRune'''s [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zopSafJApeU theme]] is based on the same song, only more blatantly.
* The second opening of Manga/ACertainScientificRailgun sounds sort of like [[Franchise/TouhouProject Hong Meiling's stage theme.]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FTG7JFmU7A Take a]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbqoImQZ-EY listen.]]
* One of the pieces of music from ''Anime/ReadOrDie'' sounds like the stock music piece "Valse Aux Champs-Elysees", which was used on ''WesternAnimation/TheRenAndStimpyShow''.
** That's minimal, Read or Die's main theme rips off from every musical aspect of James Bond's main theme... without actually ripping a note from it, and made a much more cohesive, surprising and captivating version, like Picasso (allegedly) said "Good artists borrow, great artists steal".
* The first ending theme in the English dub version of ''Anime/HareGuu'' sounds suspiciously like the soul classic "T.S.O.P. (The Sound of Philadelphia)".
* The opening song of the ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'' English dub sounds an awful lot like Music/Blink182's "Dammit" at times.
* The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H55tPLezqOc chorus]] of Blood Shepherd's Japanese theme in ''Anime/YuGiOhVRAINS'' sounds quite similar to the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBp1Y-LoObs main theme]] from ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy2014''.
* A track on the ''Literature/{{Baccano}}'' soundtrack, "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOYA5zb6dbA Yurumikatta Kannou no Dance]]", sounds distinctly similar to the famous "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whFUUFo1eXQ Habanera]]" from Suite No. 2 of Bizet's ''Carmen''.
* One of the {{Character Song}}s from ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'', "Carrots and Sticks", is sung by Belarus and Ukraine. If you pay attention to the BackgroundMusic, it sounds like a pitched-down, remade version of Music/{{Tatu}}'s "All The Things She Said".
** To say nothing of the music cue for the opening titles, which strongly evokes "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (AKA the ''Film/TwoThousandOneASpaceOdyssey'' theme).
* The ''Anime/{{Monster}}'' anime has "[[Film/TheWizardOfOz Over The Rainbow]]" played multiple times; it's even explicitly referred to as such. Except, it's instrumental and only vaguely sounds like it. The song isn't in the public domain. It's not known if the original Japanese version had this problem or not.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RprSeqWwUM This parody scene]] of ''Film/WilliamShakespearesRomeoAndJuliet'' from ''Anime/PantyAndStockingWithGarterbelt'' has a Suspiciously Similar Song to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7eH9qnH8TM "I'm Kissing You" by Des'ree]].
** "The Diet Syndrome" from has two tracks that play in succession to one another: the first one sounds like "[[Film/{{Rocky}} Gonna Fly Now]]" or "[[Film/RockyIII Eye of]] [[Music/SurvivorBand the Tiger]]", and the second one sounds like "Theme from Series/MissionImpossible".
* The chorus of the song "Cendrillon" from by [[Music/{{Vocaloid}} Kagamine Len]] sounds an awful lot like the chorus of the ''WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated'' Japanese opening theme. Or is it the other way around?
* In ''Manga/UltraManiac'', a Suspiciously Similar Song to the theme song of ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls'' plays whenever Nina's cousins arrive. The creator of the manga, by the way, ''loves'' the PPG.
* In ''Literature/{{Bakemonogatari}}'', the song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wl3JS3y6_M Suteki Meppou]] by Kousaki Satoru has a jazzy piano chord progression and rhythm that sounds like Paul Desmond and the Dave Brubeck Quartet's ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzpnWuk3RjU Take Five]]'' There's also ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3i7Sznuu-Ww Hyouri]]'', which sounds quite a bit like ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7yjB08yCLw Tubular Bells]]'', of ''Film/TheExorcist'' fame.
* The song "HARDBOILED" off of the ''Anime/TheGirlWhoLeaptThroughSpace'' soundtrack sounds like it could have been an outtake from [[Music/PinkFloyd David Gilmour's]] solo album ''On An Island''.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYdKHsuX-ks Momiji's song]] in the ''Manga/FruitsBasket'' anime is just a few notes off from "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3C5ELNQ1ek Momiji]]" (a folk song). Given the name, it's doubtful that it was a coincidence.
* ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLTFlif70Uo The Anger of Crimson Lotus]]'' from ''Manga/FairyTail'' sounds as if composer took Grass Theme from ''[[VideoGame/HeroesOfMightAndMagic Heroes of Might and Magic IV]]'', cut it in pieces, sew them randomly together, and added rock-style accompaniment over all of it.
** A little breakdown: first listen to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-gnjMemqdE#t=2m30s this]], then to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9-PsHkDbVY#t=1m36s this]], then [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9-PsHkDbVY#t=1m36s this]], and for last one go to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-gnjMemqdE#t=2m30s the first part]].
** And this is far from being the only song in the soundtrack.
** The theme used for Lucy's summoning is eerily similar to a bit from ''WesternAnimation/TheLittleMermaid1989'' (the track called "Fireworks" to be specific).
** The intro to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSsmv2nWfsU Eternal Fellows]] sounds very similar to [[Manga/KOn Cagayake!]] [[http://youtu.be/gnd1wSIyN-g?t=7s GIRLS]]
** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6kb96YWXMA Main Theme]] is similar to the beginning of ''{{Music/Dragonforce}}'s'' "Operation Ground and Pound".
* ''Literature/{{Toradora}}'' has very short song that's suspiciously similar to Vangelis' "Film/ChariotsOfFire" in episode 8, when Taiga is practicing swimming for the competition.
* There's a series of Youtube videos from a Japanese cartoon that are suspiciously similar to various western rock songs. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zei1LXw1qfU NOT "Separate Ways" By JOURNEY]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvVK77gC6EU NOT "Don't Look Back" By BOSTON ]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG_CyNfjUZs NOT "All You Need Is Love" by BEATLES]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9yCA5uCnJo NOT "Europa" by SANTANA]], and many others. They can be found [[https://www.youtube.com/user/yusacinosh on this Youtube channel]].
* The ''Anime/GingaDensetsuWeed'' song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcIugqglkp4 "Dash!"]] sounds almost identical to the ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CySGjCDaRy4 opening theme]].
* ''[[Anime/RoninWarriors Yoroiden Samurai Troopers]]''' first opening theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKIpzkoAqC0 "Stardust Eyes"]], borrows heavily from [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf3Ay1Y2Kks "It's A Sin" by The Pet Shop Boys.]]
* The ''Kodomo No Jikan'' ending "Hana Maru Sensation" sounds almost exactly like the chorus from Music/TheOffspring's One Fine Day, which in turn sounds like the chorus of the ''Kiteretsu Daihykka'' theme song "Suimin Bosukou".
* The final battle theme of ''Anime/CowboyBebop: TheMovie'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiUjOFYDiBE Pushing the Sky]], sounds very similar to the Lunatic Calm song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0X6BeszEXm4 Leave You Far Behind]].
** "Bad Dog No Biscuits" from the second episode is basically a slightly more bombastic version of Music/TomWaits' "Midtown".
** And, of course, "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaKH9bywzgQ Go Go Cactus Man]]" sounds like it was scored by Music/EnnioMorricone for use in ''Film/ForAFewDollarsMore''. This one was, at least, probably fully intentional given whose {{leitmotif}} it is.
* In ''Anime/ZoidsChaoticCentury'', the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RShfhjV2Y2Y#t=1m50s theme]] that plays when the Ultrasaurus awakens sounds an awful lot like the ''Film/JurassicPark'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8zlUUrFK-M#t=1m40s theme]]. They sound almost identical when both themes climax. Also consider how similar the scenes with the Ultrasaurus first moving and Dr. Grant seeing the living Brachiosaur are, especially since the aforementioned themes start playing in both instances.
* ''Manga/SkipBeat'' is an interesting example in that it's a plot point when some random band comes out of nowhere and plagiarizes Fuwa Sho's released work and [[KarmaHoudini make it big.]] No one in the industry comments, and Sho ends up getting only more and more pissed. Then [[BewaretheNiceOnes Kyouko]] [[ItsPersonal enters the picture.]]
* When listening to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwxLJGK3xck A Ke Mi Ya Ma Sa Ki]] from [[Manga/WhisperedWords Sasameki Koto anime]] do you feel like roaming among blasted town ruins covered by lush vegetation on a calm sunny day with occassional [[NothingIsScarier feelings of]] [[ParanoiaFuel tension or threat]]? VideoGame/MedalOfHonorAlliedAssault [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAfWRLajbcI The Nebelwerfer Hunt]] anyone?
* ''Anime/PrettyCure'':
** ''Anime/SmilePrettyCure'''s first ending theme, "Yay! Yay! Yay!", happens to be in the same tempo and key as Music/AvrilLavigne's "Girlfriend", thus the two songs sound shockingly similar. Of course, it didn't take long for a fan to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inUe0hXMRaM combine the two]].
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THIA7t0PRNI Don't Give Up on Dreams]] sounds like a fluffed up version of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EynZ65x6Tmo the main theme]] from ''Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean''.
** The [=CureLine=] ringtone in ''Anime/HappinessChargePrettyCure'' seems to take a cue from the Family Mart entrance chimes.
*** Episode 2 features a song that sounds like "Beautiful" by Music/ChristinaAguilera that's used as BackgroundMusic.
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iINy5tsq12M Aiming to Win]] is practically a {{Gender Flip}}ped version of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioE_O7Lm0I4 Gonna Fly Now]] from ''Franchise/{{Rocky}}''.
** ''Anime/SuitePrettyCure'''s "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdtNwU2A4BM&index=6&list=PLo_MF3x8zffR9Wl2hLa5Dq4UEbZrWwStf Kimi Ga Iru]]" sounds like a gender flipped version of Simple Minds' "Don't You (Forget About Me)", a song from another popular 80's movie, ''Film/TheBreakfastClub''.
** ''Anime/KiraKiraPrecureALaMode'''s second ending theme, "Shabadoobie Sweets Time", has a very similar sound to "Bills" by Lunchmoney Lewis.
* The chorus of the theme song to ''Prism Generations: Prism Magical'' sounds a lot like the chorus to the theme song to Takashi Murakami's [[http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm12968795 Six Hearts Princess]].
* The beginning part of ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwVIZ2U4tbs Yliaster Battle Mode]]'' from ''Anime/YuGiOh5Ds'' sounds similar to the first part of ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q52bJ3E19DU Sword of Promised Victory]]'' from ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight''.
* Elsewhere in the Franchise/{{Nasuverse}} franchise, all of ''Anime/CarnivalPhantasm'''s BGM track [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=933nFxHL3KY "Event Taikai"]] except the bridge is a ripoff of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBQWsBiM5YY "76 Trombones"]] from ''The Music Man''.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJiOf_sld3k "Oi, Oi"]] from ''Literature/HaruhiSuzumiya'' has a timpani rhythm that sounds exactly like the timpani rhythm in Music/FatboySlim's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KITOnupL1bw "Everybody Loves a Carnival"]], just a half-step lower.
** "Itsumo no Fuukei" is incredibly similar to the game over song from ''VideoGame/MegaMan3''.
* The theme "The Original Sin" from the ''Manga/{{Hellsing}}'' RAID OST has a lot in common with the famous track "Ave Satani" from ''Film/TheOmen1976''.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_w3utLLevE Gundam AGE-FX]], the theme used by the eponymous mobile suit from the third generation of ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamAGE'' is very similar in tune in tune and atmosphere, albeit faster, as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2uEEsvCrL0 Into Anger and Fears]], used when Annelotte uses her [[spoiler:SuperpoweredEvilSide]] in ''Anime/QueensBlade Rebellion''.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugnDt9SD9rQ Merry Go Round of Life]] from ''Anime/HowlsMovingCastle'' is quite similar to the opening phrases of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_FeLLZ7eIU Memories of Fanelia]] from ''Anime/TheVisionOfEscaflowne''. Joe Hisaishi (composer for ''Howl''), the composer for Studio Ghibli, was the one to discover Yoko Kanno and lead her into anime music composition. However, ''Escaflowne'' actually came first, meaning the teacher referenced the student.
* The chorus of the Getbackers' song, "Namida no Hurricane", sounds an awful lot like "Hey Mickey."
* The opening theme to ''Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub'' has an underlying guitar melody taken note-for-note from the bridge synth of "Kiss Me Deadly" by Lita Ford, and "[=Sk8ter=] Boi" by Avril Lavigne.
* There is a particular BGM track in ''Manga/YuYuHakusho'' in which the bassline interpolates the opening riff in The Four Tops' "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch". Another one is a soundalike of "[[Music/MichaelJackson Thriller]]".
** Yet another piece of BGM is a pastiche of "Time of the Season" by Music/TheZombies.
* The chorus of the first ''Anime/SuperSonico'' opening, "Beat Goes On!" sounds like the chorus of "Hot Patootie" from ''Film/TheRockyHorrorPictureShow''.
* The last part of ''Manga/BrynhildrInTheDarkness'''s first opening is reminiscent of the ''WesternAnimation/XMenTheAnimatedSeries'' cartoon's theme.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHwtxMYnXcg "Scatterbrain"]] from the original ''Manga/SailorMoon'' OST sounds like the original ''Series/SesameStreet'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHp_Mq0hdxo theme.]]
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPDyUNKG0To "Fire Soul Love'']], one of the Sailor Mars image songs, is a few notes off from being [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAwaNWGLM0c "Rhythm Nation"]] by Janet Jackson.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfBIDctXOxs The battle theme "Ai no Senshi"]] is pretty close to much of the music used in Ys Book I & II, while sounding much like a sped-up version of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK8uUFqKsaM the Palace theme.]]
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bBpiHJm3t0 "Moonlight Densetsu"]], the original theme song, sounds like a mash-up of Music/BonJovi's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aqc3VTpz9HQ You Give Love a Bad Name ]] and Music/VanHalen's [[https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zRhOe-Gztso Jump]]. Its melody was also inadvertently borrowed from the 1965 J-Pop song, "Sayonara wa Dansu no Ato ni (Goodbye after the End of the Dance)", which was performed by Chieko Baisho. This actually led to an arbitration case between the songs' respective composers, Daria Kawashima (aka Tetsuya Komoro) and Hirooki Ogawa, when the series first aired; as a result, Ogawa obtained a percentage of the "Moonlight Legend" royalties.
** Sailor Venus' ImageSong "Route Venus" has been compared to "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" by Music/KylieMinogue.
** The [[https://youtu.be/-km-mHrqIMU?t=21 guitar solo]] in "Usagi vs. Jadeite", a piece of BackgroundMusic for the first season, is very similar to the solo in [[https://youtu.be/wGmIL2gtieU?t=99 "Young Lust"]] by Music/PinkFloyd.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9MfR0dSgRI "Determination"]] another piece of BackgroundMusic in the show, sounds similar to both [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btPJPFnesV4 "Eye of the Tiger"]] by Music/{{Survivor|Band}} and [[https://youtu.be/D0JWch9baEQ?t=76 "Rock 'n' Roll Children"]] by [[Music/RonnieJamesDio Dio]].
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SqJqszeQvc "Split Soldiers"]] from the third season uses the riff and chord progression from King Crimson's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jX0caf1HvNs "Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part Two"]].
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaYKyGqRROY "Kirby!"]], the second opening of ''Anime/KirbyRightBackAtYa'', sounds oddly similar to the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEOxjQJmwj4 opening theme]] for ''[[Manga/SailorMoon Sailor Moon Sailor Stars]]'', with certain portions of both songs sounding oddly alike and the two sharing identical musical structures.
* Both ''Manga/BakiTheGrappler'' 's opening "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycz8RYFcm_Q All Alone]]" and ''VideoGame/ParappaTheRapper'' 's ending "[[http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/ygat68/parappa-the-rapper-anime-ending-2 Yellow Balloon]]" sound similar to Cathy Dennis' "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdKwlIaqWbY Too Many Walls]]".
* ''Franchise/LittleWitchAcademia'': The song "Chariot's Theme" is highly reminiscent of the main theme from ''Film/TheGreatEscape'', especially the brass militaristic fanfare portion of it, and less so the woodwind chorus (which later has a trumpet reprise) that constitutes the most well known and iconic part of the score.
* A background track heard in episode 8 of ''Anime/ParanoiaAgent'' resembles "Linus and Lucy" by Vince Guaraldi.
* ''Literature/NyarukoCrawlingWithLove'' has the title character's battle theme "Nyarko, Sanjou!", which is intentionally modeled on "Ore, Sanjou!", Momotaros' battle theme from ''Series/KamenRiderDenO'', even opening with the exact same riff. It helps that the show is ReferenceOverdosed and ''Franchise/KamenRider'' is one of its favorite works to homage; Nyarko even performs Momotaros' signature pose and CatchPhrase a few times[[note]][[UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns Though she changes the "ore" to the feminine "watashi".]][[/note]]
* The main riff of ''Anime/GunXSword'''s [[https://youtu.be/7c5asEISqQ4?t=75 opening theme]] (also heard in the eyecatch) sounds a lot like a sped up version of the ''Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NH6ZiySBy_w battle theme]], which is also used in its show's eyecatch.
* ''Manga/AttackOnTitan'':
** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGfvSe4QhEA opening]] to ''Literature/BlackBullet'' sounds similar to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbWFpzi8C94 Jiyuu no Tsubasa]].
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrlvspUk_ns Its first opening theme]] resembles in some parts the opening guitar riff in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtNL1ofuwgg "I'm Yours"]] by the late, great Music/{{Prince}}.
** It even resembles Dimension Tripper! from ''Anime/HyperdimensionNeptuniaTheAnimation'' in some parts.
** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xntraDmha38 VS Female Titan]]" in the soundtrack borrows the tempo, rhythmic percussion, and bass from ''Film/{{Inception}}''[='=]s "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUwszL6J81I Mombasa]]". All that's missing is the guitar on top.
** The climactic, patriotic section of the third ending theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o05UK9lXtC0#t=45s Requiem der Morgenröte]], resembles [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peVdsTglebA#t=46s the Russian National Anthem.]]
* ''Beast Fighter'' has an instrumental tune that sounds mainly in moments where Shinichi decides that it's time to turn badass and beat the crap out of the bad guys. It sounds a lot like Music/{{Queen}}'s "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tJYN-eG1zk We Will Rock You]]". Check it out [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaqnQ54nA5c here]] at 4:08.
* The opening theme to ''Anime/MagicalShoppingArcadeAbenobashi'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKrJa93z3Gs "Treat or Goblins"]], sounds like a stripped-down version of Alexander O'Neal's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8crlQaGL3cE "(What Can I Say) To Make You Love Me"]].
** The anime itself features occasional soundalikes of themes from other media, such as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyjCq_iB5yE "The Beast"]] from ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' and The Imperial March and Main Theme from ''Franchise/StarWars'', all of which support the parody-happy nature of the show.
* ''Anime/SamuraiFlamenco'' has "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uH-eVymXa0 Usankusai]]", which sounds a lot like Henry Mancini's Pink Panther Theme.
* The second ''Anime/PriPara'' opening, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v48xXGtDBR0 Miracle ☆Paradise!]], sounds very similar to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITRw7xOJ1B4 Music S.T.A.R.T!]] from ''Anime/LoveLive!'' It is unknown if this was intentional or not.
* The third opening to ''[[Literature/{{Bakemonogatari}} Owarimonogatari]]'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SQat3PNgaM Mein Schatz]], sounds similar to ''VisualNovel/UminekoWhenTheyCry'''s [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTojZzKi9V8 main theme]].
* In ''Manga/MyLoveStory'', during Takeo's TrainingMontage in episode 7 an offbeat version of "The Final Countdown" by Europe plays.
* The ending theme of ''Anime/MacrossDelta'' performed by Walkure, "Rune ga Pikatto Hikattara", sounds similar to "September" by Music/EarthWindAndFire. Which leads to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3nfweteZck&feature=youtu.be this mashup]]. The song "Giraffe Blues" sounds similar to "Un-break My Heart" by Toni Braxton. Which leads to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xI8-J6SFiKA this mashup]].
* The ''VideoGame/{{Aikatsu}}'' theme song "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPh2izSa-ko Do Wa Do Wa DO IT!]]" sounds like ROCO's "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mu6dDAIepuE Colorful Parade]]".
* Parts of "Kataware Doki" from ''Anime/YourName'' sound enough like Yiruma's "River Flows In You" that covers have seamlessly incorporated the latter.
* The first 40 or so seconds of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6gxtDkKoO0&list=PLtYTKcRzsHhcI7UDhz3ahJ43SkbQFGzPR&index=24 "Let the Games Begin!!"]] from ''Manga/{{Haikyuu}}'' sound somewhat similar to the opening of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fra-m7RNMrU "The Launch"]] from ''Film/Apollo13'' by Music/JamesHorner.
* The opening of "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHk1cJWp9cM Welcome to the World]]", Joseph's theme from the AnimatedAdaptation of ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureBattleTendency'', sounds like the iconic pickup from "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVOuYquXuuc Owner of a Lonely Heart]]" by Music/{{Yes}}. Since ''[=JoJo=]'' is well known for referencing Western music and musicians (including of course Yes), this may well have been an intentional homage.
** Also happens in ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureGoldenWind'': a song that sounds a lot like Prince's "P. Control" plays during the infamous dance scene on the boat.
*** The "chorus" of Giorno's theme ([[BilingualBonus il vento d'oro, "the golden wind" in Italian]]) sounds a lot like "Gold" by Music/SpandauBallet.
* In the ''Anime/LoveLive'' movie, when the group first catches sight of New York City, the BGM takes cues from Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue".
** The song "Guilty Night, Guilty Kiss" from ''Anime/LoveLiveSunshine'' sounds a lot like Music/KatyPerry's "Teenage Dream". Taken to its logical by Music/SiIvaGunner [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QPIqphO0uQ here]].
** The intro of "Guilty Eyes Fever" sounds a lot like the intro of Music/{{Usher}}'s "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love". [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSgiXKfNDoM Yet again, SiIvaGunner took note.]]
*** The song "Awaken the power", also from ''Love Live! Sunshine!!'', sounds very similar to Music/MyChemicalRomance's "Welcome to the Black Parade".
* In ''Literature/HighSchoolDXD'', the track [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EzNkxywVps "Ano Hi no Omoi"]] is similar to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTSc4hBdCd0 the main theme]] from the ''Film/LoveStory'' soundtrack by Francis Lai.
* The {{Recurring Riff}}s from ''Anime/VoicesOfADistantStar'' call to mind [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nip7k0m08PM Starman Leaves]] from ''Film/{{Starman}}''.
* When ''Anime/DigimonAdventureTri'' was dubbed into English by Toei and Eleven Arts rather than Saban, rights issues led to the lack of the original English theme song, "Digimon are the Champions". Therefore, a new song with a similar feel to the original called "Digimon are Back Again" was recorded and used.
** The riff of the original Saban theme itself shares similarities with the guitar riff in the beginning of the song "Rocka Rolla" by Music/JudasPriest.
* ''Anime/RurouniKenshin'''s first opening theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIcvHSUCiAs "Sobakasu (Freckles)"]], especially the first half, is suspiciously similar to Music/ElectricLightOrchestra's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7dTBoW5H9k "Mr. Blue Sky"]].
* In episode 7 of ''Manga/MassuguNiIkou'' there is an ImagineSpot where Mametarou imagines Jack boxing him for Hanako's heart. An off-beat version of "Gonna Fly Now" from ''Rocky'' can be heard in the background during this sequence.
* ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica''[='s=] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCgajn0R0YE Decretum]] can easily be rendered as a DarkReprise of ''Greensleeves''. With this in mind, a version [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x17Vn6EzkWE combining the two]] is made, requiring some knowledge about both melody lines in order to distinguish the two.
* The song "Ai wo Shitta Yajuu no You ni" from the ''Anime/{{Dancougar}}'' soundtrack has the same opening and middle 8 as Stan Bush's "Dare" from "WesternAnimation/TheTransformersTheMovie
* ''Anime/SonicX'': The opening riff to the second Japanese ending theme bares a striking resemblance to the ''Music/MeatLoaf'' song Bat Out Of Hell.

* "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbeGeXgjh9Q Nee]]", the theme song for ''[[Manga/ChisSweetHome Chi's Sweet Adventure]]'', sounds very similar to "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sM3v2z7X1s0 Koi wo Surutabini Tsuzutukiyasuku]]", the theme song for the magical girl anime ''Manga/NurseAngelRirikaSOS''.
* The song "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTl8soYvElo Failure]]" in ''Manga/KaguyaSamaLoveIsWar'' sounds a lot like "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" by Music/DeadOrAlive.
** The track "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ8oLYO-vtw Positive]]", ironically enough, sounds eerily similar to the infamous track "Sayonara" from ''VisualNovel/DokiDokiLiteratureClub''.
* The Song "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5m5-1XrJuw Never Get Away]]" in ''Anime/FushigiYuugi'' shares similarities with the Song "Runaway" by Music/BonJovi in the first verse, especially the piano.
* The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rhrfm13l6mE main theme]] from the anime adaptation of ''Manga/CaseClosed'' sounds remarkably close to the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpNmmUDHokw theme tune]] of old-school Japanese cop show ''Series/TaiyoNiHoero''. No surprise, since the same composer (Katsuo Ohno) was hired for both series and ''Conan'' was a golden opportunity to pay homage to his previous work.
* ''Anime/ZombieLandSaga'': Saki's image song from episode 9, "Tokkou Dance", clearly draws a lot of inspiration from "One Night Carnival" by Kishidan, a J-rock group that got its start in 1997, around the time Saki died.
* The theme song of ''Literature/LegendOfTheGalacticHeroes: Die Neue These'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5fk80I3orw "Binary Star"]], sounds an awful lot like Music/{{Starship}}'s [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wxyN3z9PL4 "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now"]].
* ''Manga/SlamDunk'''s opening theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7Ow1XED9zE Kimi ga suki da to sakebitai]] sounds similar to Music/VanHalen's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im31A5yqKw8 Panama]].
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00L0ed_Z7hA Minmay's titular song]] in ''Anime/MacrossDoYouRememberLove'' sounds similar to Music/AirSupply's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRx58DgOxeg "Even the Nights Are Better"]].
* The intro to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReFSC3yeeMg "All In Good Time"]], the closing theme from the ''[[Literature/ShakuganNoShana Shakugan no Shana S]]'' OVA series, sounds very similar to the chorus of [[https://youtu.be/01VrpOfPdw4?t=43 "Listen To Your Heart"]] by Music/{{Roxette}}.
* "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad5TszNUVYI Swordland]]" from ''Literature/SwordArtOnline'' has similarities to "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7C60fj4TNI4 Invasion of Gracemeria]]" from ''VideoGame/AceCombat6FiresOfLiberation'', as noted for example [[https://www.reddit.com/r/swordartonline/comments/2ho42k/question_about_the_sao_battle_theme_ive_heard_it/ here]].
* In episode 3 of the anime ''Anime/{{Free}}'', the BackgroundMusic in the scene where Rei Ryugazaki is dragged to train on the swimming block, more specifically the [[https://youtu.be/mC1ruFCAXhg "bassline"]]; sounds eerily similar to a song called [[https://youtu.be/hSWbpVjwQGM "I'm Free"]] by The Soup Dragons. A song that happens to have a close title to the anime itself.
* "Where Does This Ocean Go" from ''Anime/GhostInTheShellStandAloneComplex'' sounds very similar to the song, "Hyperballad," by Music/{{Bjork}}.
* "The Time Has Come (Pikachu's Goodbye)" from ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'' sounds like "True Colors" by Music/CyndiLauper.
** "All We Wanna Do" from the Pokémon Karaokemon segments sounds like a mix of (coincidentally) "All I Wanna Do" by Sheryl Crow and "Shiny Happy People" by REM.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEVPIuMOl20 Fly to Dark]] from ''Manga/WataMote'' sounds very similar to "God Knows..." from ''Literature/HaruhiSuzumiya''.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waNB2HHp4aU&pp=ygUObXIgcHJpdmF0ZSBleWU%3D "Mr. Private Eye"]] from ''Manga/CityHunter'' bears some resemblance to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mD8TApX3btM&ab_channel=OMDVEVO "So in Love"]] by Music/OrchestralManoeuvresInTheDark.
* Another ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' soundalike: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4GvG3jUsLE "Lucky Dirty Boy"]], ''Manga/{{Isuca}}'''s theme for harem shenanigans.
* ''Anime/KikisDeliveryService'': Another Joe Hisaishi number -- "Starting the Job" (the track that plays when Kiki begins her first delivery run in the original Japanese version) is basically a ''pizzicato'' rendition of [[Music/AntonioVivaldi Vivaldi's]] "Spring" in a slightly different key (F- rather than E-Major).
