Hoo boy, where do we begin?
----
* [[Film/{{Chinatown}} "Forget it, Nicholas. It's Sandford."]]
* A blink-and-you'll-miss-it ShoutOut occurs [[RunningGag repeatedly]] [[spoiler:with [[AlwaysIdenticalTwins the two identical twins]] running the front desk at the police station. One reads nothing but [[Creator/IainBanks Iain M. Banks]] and the other nothing but Creator/IainBanks novels.]] This is a [[SubvertedTrope subversion]] of... something... in that [[spoiler:while Iain M. and Iain are the same man, the two identical desk sergeants are not.]]
* [[Film/TheShining "You've always been here."]] In an inn, too. And his later compatriot is named Danny.
* There's a bit [[spoiler:where Nick has been stabbed by Danny, stashed in the boot of his car, then revealed only to be NotQuiteDead]], that's a homage to Creator/QuentinTarantino's favorite shot: from the boot of the car.
* In the supermarket, the DVD of ''Film/ShaunOfTheDead'' can be glimpsed for a few frames, with the title 'Zombies Party'.
** According to the DVD commentary, the ''Film/ShaunOfTheDead'' DVD was actually the Spanish version of the film, which had that CompletelyDifferentTitle.
*** Other shout-outs to ''Film/ShaunOfTheDead'' are Danny asking Nicholas if he "Wants anything from the shop" and during the chase of the shoplifter, Nick saying "What, you've never taken a shortcut before?" before starting to jump over a series of fences and the line [[Film/ShaunOfTheDead "You've got red on you."]]
* When a shed full of guns is revealed: "[[WesternAnimation/HeManAndTheMastersOfTheUniverse1983 By the Power of Grayskull!]]" Also said later on when Butterman's film collection is revealed.
* Outsider cop visits a small town and discovers an evil cult's plot? Sounds like ''Film/TheWickerMan1973''. Bonus points since Edward Woodward (who played the cop in the original ''Wicker Man'') appears in the film.
** Even his character's name Tom Weaver is a reference to this.
** Well technically, the [[spoiler:NWA]] is not an evil cult, but a WellIntentionedExtremist association GoneHorriblyWrong.
*** They just ''act'' like an evil cult, wearing black robes and chanting ominously, in a castle courtyard in the dead of night.
* The name of Janet Barker's twins announced at the NWA meeting, Roger and Martin; after the protagonists of the ''Film/LethalWeapon'' series.
* The village staging of ''Theatre/RomeoAndJuliet'' takes several cues from Creator/BazLuhrmann's ''Film/WilliamShakespearesRomeoAndJuliet'' (1996).
** Most notably, the use of The Cardigans' song "Lovefool."
** Blower and Draper are using the famous knight/angel costumes from that film. (While the background characters are in period dress).
** Juliet uses Romeo's Beretta to commit suicide.
* To ''Film/PhantomOfTheParadise'', one of Wright's favorite movies: the quick and menacing movements of the hooded killer with the black cape are meant to homage Winslow Leach's when he's the Phantom, particularly the frantic hand-held camera from behind when they're running away from Nicholas after killing Leslie Tiller, and when the killer goes through a plastic tent after slashing it down with a knife, which is similar to Winslow slashing the shower curtain to ambush Beef during the PsychoShowerMurderParody.
* The [[spoiler:priest]] seems to have spring loaded pistols in his sleeves a la [[Film/TaxiDriver Travis Bickle]].
** Looks more like The Mariachi in ''Film/{{Desperado}}''.
* Michael "Lurch" Armstrong bears a resemblance to Lurch from ''Series/TheAddamsFamily''.
* Tony Fisher getting Franchise/SpiderMan facial paint at the village fair.
* In addition to the NWA being a ShoutOut to [[Music/{{NWA}} you-know-what]] (see FunWithAcronyms), Danny's "[[Music/PublicEnemy Yeaaaahh booooyyyyy!]]" to the barman before getting drunk with Angel.
* [[spoiler:Mr. Treacher]] firing a Winchester Model 1887--sawn off--is a reference to ''Film/Terminator2JudgmentDay''. A Winchester also appeared in ''Film/ShaunOfTheDead'' and played a major role in that movie.
** Whenever Nicholas chases after someone on foot, he emulates the T-1000's manner of swinging his arms.
* When Nicholas returns to Sandford, he interrupts Mr. Reaper's attempt to warn the NWA by slamming into his car. The only word Reaper gets out is "[[Series/MontyPythonsFlyingCircus It's...]]"
* Nicholas' attempt to arrest [[spoiler:the entire NWA]] by himself recalls a similar LeeroyJenkins scene in ''Film/{{Dragnet}}'' where Joe Friday tries to arrest an entire cult by himself.
* Nicholas is in a shop when the shopkeeper asks him if he's found "the killers" yet - just visible behind her is a poster of the album ''Hot Fuss'' by Music/TheKillers.
