''Sonny with a Chance'' (2009-2011) is a Creator/DisneyChannel show created by [[WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents Steve]] [[WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom Marmel]] about a girl who joins the cast of a kids' sketch comedy show called ''So Random!''. The show follows the {{Zany Scheme}}s of the cast members, as well as those of the star of [[SoapWithinAShow melodramatic]] TeenDrama ''Mackenzie Falls'', a rival TV show that appears to shoot at the same studio.

Characters include Sonny, the NaiveNewcomer and PromotedFanboy; Tawni, the AlphaBitch of the cast; Nico, the show's token attractive male star and borderline KidAnova; Grady, Nico's best friend; Zora, miniature {{Zany Scheme}}ster and borderline junior ManicPixieDreamGirl; and Chad Dylan Cooper, the aforementioned star of ''Mackenzie Falls'' and token JerkWithAHeartOfGold who consorts with Sonny and her castmates. ''Sonny with a Chance'' is a vehicle for Radio/RadioDisney pop-star Music/DemiLovato, joining other live-action Disney Channel series such as ''Series/WizardsOfWaverlyPlace'', ''Series/HannahMontana'', and ''Series/LizzieMcGuire''.

Come the third season however, the title of the show adopted its {{Defictionalized}} version of the ShowWithinAShow, ''Series/SoRandom'', due to the departure of Demi Lovato (i.e. Sonny) from the cast. The format changed a bit as well, changing to a variety comedy akin to ''Series/AllThat'', though it still features the same characters (along with new ones).
----
!!This show contains examples of:
* AdamWesting: Selena Gomez's guest star appearance in "Battle of the Network Stars." She even managed to lampshade one of her more, ahem, prominent roles.
* AllJustADream:
** Tawni invokes this trope in "Sonny in the Middle" when Nico and Grady bust out into a huge public fight during a "Gary and Larry" sketch in order to play off to the audience that it wasn't real and try to diffuse the tension.
** In the episode "High School Miserable" when Sonny and the gang feel unappreciated about not getting what they want, they decided to write a letter to Mr. Condor about their dissatisfaction of their perks, but before that, they get a glimpse of what it would be like if Mr. Condor have gotten their letter: [[spoiler: The cast would be fired and replaced by his daughter, Dakota, making her the one and only star of ''Series/SoRandom'' and they would have to attend a public high school]]. It turns out to be a total nightmare for the gang, but thankfully, is was all just a dream.
* AlliterativeName:
** Chad Dylan Cooper, but without the middle name included.
** Raven's character Amber Algoode.
** Allisyn Ashley Arm, who plays Zora.
* AlphaBitch: Again, Tawni fits this description to a tee.
** Selena to a certain extent.
* AnnoyingLaugh: Blogger Sharona has one of these, so when So Random parodies her in a ''Film/TheWizardOfOz''-inspired sketch called "Wicked Witch of the Web", it's naturally mocked for all it's worth by Sonny as the Wicked Witch.
* ApatheticClerk: There's a series of sketches on [[Series/SoRandom So]][[ShowWithinAShow Random]] called "The Check Out Girls", which is about two stereotypical [[ValleyGirl Valley Girls]] who work as cashiers. They spend most of their time talking to each other and insulting the customers. In one skit, they nonchalantly react to someone trying to rob them at gunpoint.
* AscendedExtra: The actors who played characters in the ''Mackenzie Falls'' webisodes were all given recurring roles in the actual show starting in the second season, replacing the various extras from the first season.
** [[spoiler:Penelope]] even functions as the villain in [[spoiler:Sonny with a Secret]]
** In fact, the entire ShowWithinAShow became one with the Season 3 spin-off.
* AttractiveBentGender: In "You Got Fan Mail", Tawni starts to fall for Eric (Sonny's fake number one fan), not knowing that Eric is actually [[spoiler: ''Sonny in disguise!'']].
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Sonny Munroe and Chad Dylan Cooper have at least one "Aww, Look" moment an episode, almost.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Chad and Sonny.
* BettyAndVeronica: Sonny and Tawni, respectively.
* BishieSparkle: Parodied with the cast of ''Mackenzie Falls'', standing dramatically with rays of light in the background while an angelic choir sings.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead:
** Tawni, Sonny, and Zora.
** Also, Snowy, Beauty, and Cindy in the sketch comedy show named "The Real Princesses of New Jersey".
* BoundAndGagged:
** Sonny in ''Sonny and the Studio Brat''.
** Chad, Nico, Grady, and Tawni in ''That's So Sonny''.
* BurgerFool: Fasty's Really Fast Food, whose service is downright ProducePelting given the food is thrown/sprayed on the unfortunate patron.
* CatchPhrase: Many, many, many:
** "Fine!" "Good!" "Good!" "Fine!" and variations thereof.
** Chad being the number one actor of his generation. Also using the full Chad Dylan Cooper name.
** "Peace out, suckers!"
** "EVIL!"(Whenever Dakota shows up where Zora is.)
* ChristmasEpisode: "A So Random! Holiday Special"
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: The original cast of ''Mackenzie Falls'', most notably Portlyn.
* CloudCuckooLander: Zora. Sonny too, but Zora is strange even by ''her'' standards. Example from "The Legend of Candy Face":
-->'''Sonny:''' Zora, go get your camera.\
'''Zora:''' But I covered it in dew. You know, to attract the bats.\
'''Sonny:''' Okay, just go get the camera, you little freak.
* CoincidentalAccidentalDisguise:
** Ms. Bitterman gets a rash from poison ivy and is mistaken for [=CandyFace=].
** Chad was trying to help children with fear of clowns, but an attempt to stop his baldness leaves looking like a clown himself and scares the children away.
* CrazyWorkplace: the TV studio the characters work at is populated almost exclusively by DramaQueen[=s=] who consider the rivalry between their shows SeriousBusiness. Even its backstage areas resemble a giant prop room, with costumes, ill-fitting furniture, and gag items scattered everywhere.
* CustomUniform: They did this in the "Mackenzie Falls" Web shorts tied in with the show. Then again, those are supposed to be LampshadeHanging schlocky teen drama tropes.
* CutShort: Due to Music/DemiLovato leaving the show (and in turn converting the main show to So Random), The series ends as this, with the last episode where Sonny and Chad have a small talk and Sonny sings bits of her last song while walking away. In short, You'll never get a chance to see Chad and Sonny get back together, or the entire Season 3. Ever. Spin-off series, ''Series/SoRandom'' would be canceled after one season a year later.
* TheDanza: InUniverse, all of the characters on Mackenzie Falls, barring Mackenzie have the same name as their actors. (Despite the tie-in website stating otherwise)
* DartboardOfHate: A flashback in the pilot episode shows Tawni throwing darts at a picture of [[AlwaysSomeoneBetter Sonny]] with a goatee drawn on it.
* DatingCatwoman: [[spoiler:The main character dating Chad, the lead character of her show's biggest rival.]]
* DepravedKidsShowHost: Pauly the Polar Bear
* DisappearedDad:
** Tawni, despite her mother making an appearance in one episode, has not had her father mentioned.
** Downplayed with Sonny; though her mother is known, her father was only mentioned in the pilot; she apparently gets her humor from him.
** Subverted with Chad when Hank [[spoiler:insults first Chad's parents, then more directly his father, Chad tells Hank to "leave Dad Dylan Cooper out of this!"]]
* DisguisedInDrag: When Sonny and Tawni can't be on the cast of an episode due to some math test related drama, Nico and Grady fill in during the "Check it Out Girls" sketch, with sexy results.
** The creepy part about that? They're EXCITED ABOUT IT.
* DisproportionateRetribution: [[spoiler:Penelope, a member of the Mackenzie Falls cast,]] actually tried to ''kill'' Sonny with a bomb due to her being jealous of Sonny and Chad's relationship.
* TheDitz: Grady.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything:
** '"Dolphin Boy''. Hopefully unintentional.
** Not to mention Tawni and Sonny's dressing room, when Tawni uses 'The Clapper'. The LesYay in that scene throws the needle in the red - and it's implied that if the mail-guy hadn't shown up when he did...
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: Like most Disney shows, Music/DemiLovato stars in the main role and sings the theme song.
* EatTheEvidence: Played with a little bit.
-->'''Sonny:''' Well, if my plan works, we'll all be failing school in no time. Operation: Breakup is now underway. Tawni and I will target Bitterman, you two target Marshall, if anyone gets caught, eat the instructions. Got any questions?\
'''Grady:''' Oh, uh, Sonny?\
'''Sonny:''' Yes, Grady.\
'''Grady:''' Well, what happens if I've already eaten lunch, so I'm kinda full? Do I still have to eat the instructions?\
'''Sonny:''' Yes.\
'''Grady:''' Well, then can you put the instructions on cake?\
'''Sonny:''' No!\
'''Grady:''' Cookies?\
'''Sonny:''' No! Now go, go go!
* EngineeredPublicConfession: In one episode, Chad uses Sonny to fake a good reputation about himself by intruding on her tv interview and indirectly makes Sonny look like a diva by angering into a rant on live. Sonny tries to get back at him in his own way, but it only ends up making her image even worse. Fortunately, Sonny manages to record Chad gloating about his ruse with a hidden camera in her cap.
* EstrangedSoapFamily: With the exceptions of Sonny and Tawni (whose moms only made a couple of appearances), we never get to see Nico's, Grady's, or Zora's parents for some reason.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: The {{UST}} between Sonny and Chad.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: In the episode 'Poll'd Apart' Tawni shaves her head, symbolically. She actually just wears a bald cap. Also serves as a ShoutOut to Britney Spears during her own perceived breakdown.
* FakeStatic[=/=]ICanSeeYou: In "Sonny And The Studio Brat", Sonny calls Chad to ask him to meet his 9 year-old fan with a {{Precocious Crush}} on him. Chad refuses and lies that he is very busy when he is really sunbathing outside the studio lot with the rest of the Mackenzie Falls cast. He even fakes static noises in an attempt to get rid of her, but Sonny sees him from behind the cafeteria.
* FakeOutMakeOut: Sonny does this to Chad as part of a {{Batman Gambit}} to dump his best friend. {{It Makes Sense In Context}}...kinda.
* FawltyTowersPlot: In one episode, Sonny writes a fan letter to herself under the name "Eric", and everyone else starts thinking this Eric is real, until Tawni finds out Sonny's scheme.
* FishOutOfWater: Sonny in the first episode and in some of the later ones too.
* [[FourTemperamentEnsemble Five Temperament Ensemble]]: Sonny (sanguine), Tawni and Chad (choleric), Nico (leukine), Grady (phlegmatic), and Zora (melancholic).
* {{Gasshole}}: Gassie, a parody of America's Favorite Collie, who communicates through her flatulence.
* GenderEqualEnsemble: Three girls (Sonny, Tawni, and Zora) and three boys (Nico, Grady, and Chad).
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Zora slaps Tawni to break her out of her obsession over the fancy cafeteria food served only to Mackenzie Falls.
-->'''Tawni:''' I need it! I'm pretty enough for lobster! And I'm core enough for lobster! I [=AM=] [=LOBSTER=] [=WORTHY=]!!!!
-->'''Zora:''' (slaps Tawni) Snap out of it, woman!
-->'''Tawni:''' Thank you. (puts her hand over her cheek in pain)
* GilliganCut: Happens multiple times.
* HalloweenEpisode: "A So Random! Halloween Special"
* HatesBeingTouched: Tawni's reaction to Sonny's hugging in the beginning of the series.
* HeelFaceTurn: Chad started out as an antagonist in his debut, but he did redeem himself many times even throughout Season 1 but didn't get along with "So Random!" just yet. It wasn't until the two-parter "Falling for the Falls" where he completely devotes to Sonny and slowly befriends the "So Random!" cast afterwards. After Season 2 ended, he joined the cast of So Random! and took over Sonny's place who mysteriously vanished.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Nico and Grady.
* HiccupHijinks: The end credits to the season 1 finale have a gag where Demi Lovato and Tiffany Thornton are going over the scene where their characters have each other's backs, and the former hiccups three times.
* HumiliationConga: Sonny of all people undergoes this in one episode, being harassed by the paparazzi constantly because of accusations that she's been stealing and revealing her friend's secrets. It was actually [[spoiler:a member of the Mackenzie Falls cast, who was jealous of her relationship with Chad.]]
* HurricaneOfPuns: In the “So You Think You Can P.P. Dance” sketch, Sonny delivers a handful of bathroom and water-related puns as the dancers struggle to hold it in while dancing:
-->'''Sonny:''' What's up, '''peeps?''' I know you're all '''flushed''' with excitement because we are '''streaming''' live across the world! The final votes have '''trickled''' in and we're about to find out which one of you will become '''number one''' at '''holding number one''', right after '''this-s-s-s!'''
* IdioticPartnerConfession: In the third episode, Chad devises a plan to make Sonny join Mackenzie Falls only to be thwarted in the end when Portlyn, one of his female co-stars, brags about it in front of Sonny's friends.
* IdiosyncraticEpisodeNaming: Several episodes are named "Sonny With A _____", "_____ With A Chance", or vice versa, at least starting with the episode "Sonny With a Chance of Dating" (Since the first few episodes were named after a song or a movie, etc).
* IfICantHaveYou: After the above HumiliationConga, [[spoiler:Penelope has Chad, Grady, Nico, and Zora trapped in an in-flight plane without a pilot and with only two parachutes, one for her and one for Chad. Since she expects Sonny to be [[MurderTheHypotenuse killed]] by a bomb, she tells Chad to jump out of the plane with her and date her. Chad chooses Sonny, and Penelope snarls this trope before taking both parachutes and jumping out of the plane.]]
* IfYouCanReadThis: Season 2 Episode 13:
** Sonny with a Secret has "How to build a cheese ball bomb".
** Season 2 Episode 11. It looks like Demi is reading a geometry textbook, but if you take a look at the text a few seconds later, you can clearly read the words "The feces, which pass through the rectum and out the anus."
* InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals: Chaz Milton Looper.
* InformedAbility: ''So Random'' being funny.
* InformedAttractiveness: Blake Radisson, and to a lesser extent, Jackson Tyler.
* IWantYouToMeetAnOldFriendOfMine: Music/SelenaGomez (a good friend of Music/DemiLovato) appearing on ''So Random!''
* IWasQuiteALooker: An old man in one episode that spoke to Chad, even with a picture of him looking ''exactly'' like Chad himself.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold:
** Chad Dylan Cooper, as mentioned.
** Tawni falls into this at times. As of the first season finale, she fits this to a 'T', as she kept Sonny and Chad's TenMinutesInTheCloset moment from bring broadcast nationwide by a {{jerkass}}.
* {{Jerkass}}:
** Mr. Condor dotes on his horrible daughter but will [[GeorgeJetsonJobSecurity fire any of the people working at the studio on a whim]].
** There's also the principal of the school in the AllJustADream episode, who gives the cast detention after the cast does an improvised musical number, then gives them ''double detention'' when he hears better singing.
** Gilroy Smith, the host of ''Gotcha'' from the Season 1 finale. His entire goal is to get Sonny and Tawni to spill embarrassing things about themselves and the rest of the cast. When he can't get them to spill anything, he pulls out a video shot from a camera in a ''gift basket'' to make them break their pact to each other about having each others' backs. When that still doesn't work, he hones in one Sonny's expression during her flashback to a moment between her and Chad, and then brings Chad out onto the stage. He then says that the entire reason that he brought Chad to the show was to get his and Sonny's reactions to a secretly-shot video of them that he takes out of context. And ''then'', when Sonny and Chad flee to discuss how to handle the on-stage situation, Gilroy reveals ''another'' hidden camera, that he plans on using to eavesdrop on their conversation and broadcast whatever admissions they make to each other on air (luckily for Sonny and Chad, Tawni turns the camera off before anything really damaging is said).
* KidAnova: Both Nico and Chad tend to be this at times.
* LargeHam: Chad. Over the seasons he calms down. Also Grant, Grady's brother, plays this trope to its fullest. He has a nice moment during an episode, but that's pretty much it.
* LatexPerfection: Used twice by [[spoiler:Penelope]] in ''Sonny with a Secret''.
* LovableAlphaBitch: Tawni overlaps as one in the first season, especially when she prevents Sonny and Chad's {{Ten Minutes In The Closet}} moment from being broadcast live.
* MediumAwareness: Occurs in one episode where Tawni and Sonny are talking about something involving a CaptainErsatz of ''Literature/GossipGirl'', that is, a very influential blog. When Tawni was the blog's target and was talking about it with Sonny, a {{psycho string|s}} was playing, and turned out to be Zora's doing. When asked about the second one heard, Zora said, "It wasn't me this time!"... [[NothingIsScarier and that's how that scene ends]].
* NiceCharacterMeanActor: Mackenzie/Chad.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
** Sonny's overly-positive attitude has gotten the cast in trouble on more than one occasion. It was even lampshaded in the ''seventh episode''.
-->'''Sonny:''' You know that sketch that I thought would make everything better? It actually made it worse.\
'''Zora:''' That happens with you a lot.
** And put out into the general public, when the term 'Sonny It Up' becomes a CatchPhrase on ''Mackenzie Falls''. Sonny later calls Chad on it:
-->'''Sonny:''' 'Sonny It Up?' Really, Chad?\
'''Chad:''' Yeah - it's the word you use when 'meddling' just won't do!
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: The [[Literature/TheTwilightSaga Tri-dark]] series. It also has several [[Creator/RobertPattinson Rob Pattisons]] in the form of Blake Radisson and Jackson Tyler. Team Frederick!
* NoSparks: In "Sonny With A Kiss", Sonny and Chad feared that their relationship doesn't have a spark when they can't bring themselves to have their {{First Kiss}}. When they finally kiss, they realize they actually do have sparks.
* NotADate:
** Sonny and Chad go on a "fake date" to get back at Chad's [[TheCasanova Casanova]] castmate, James, after he broke up with Sonny for Tawni. When Nico and Grady see them and ask if they are on a date, they insists it's fake.
** When they eventually go on a real date in a later episode, they repeatedly insist that they aren't on a date, even after it becomes obvious to the rest of the ''So Random!'' cast.
* OohMeAccentsSlipping:
** It's glaringly obvious that Dinka was played by an American who was inexperienced with faking accents.
** When Grady likes a girl, he randomly goes in and out of a [[FunnyForeigner Scottish accent]].
* PaperThinDisguise:
** "That's So Sonny", a sort-of MythologyGag to ''Series/ThatsSoRaven'', features Raven as [[LoonyFan Amber]], president of Chad's Fanclub, trying to pry information out of Nico and Grady in a horrible man disguise, similar to many times on her former show. She also tricks Tawni, by being a facialist known as [[FunnyForeigner Mia Babouti]], who speaks in a [[OohMeAccentsSlipping very odd accent]].
** Sonny pulls it too, and in one scene Music/DemiLovato, out does several years of Raven's attempted disguises.
* ParanoiaGambit: Chad pulls this on the cast of ''So Random!'' when he hosts a celebrity prank show.
* PersonAsAVerb: In "Sonny With a Hundred Percent Chance of Meddling", a term called "Sonny it up" is created, which means meddling into things when meddling just won't do.
* PlayingCyrano: Sonny for Tawni in "Sonny in the Kitchen with Dinner".
* PlutoIsExpendable: In "Falling For The Falls", the gang is working on their science project about a model of the solar system. Sonny is about to tell them that she is dating Chad, but since they already angry at her for watching Mackenzie Falls she can't go through with it. She covers what she was about to say by insisting to count Pluto as a planet and Zora disagrees with her.
* ThePowerOfFriendship: The Randoms for Sonny, directly after her breakup with Chad.
* PunnyName: The dancers on the “So You Think You Can P.P. Dance” sketch are Flo, Pia, Agua, and Wee Diddy.
* PsychoExGirlfriend: Penelope. Whether or not she actually dated Chad is unclear though
* PutOnABus: Sonny for the third season due to Music/DemiLovato going to a treatment center.
* ReadingLips: Grady tries this very badly to figure out what Sonny and Chad are talking about in the cafeteria. He confuses "limo" for pillow", "to take us to" for "blackmeals fru" and "at eight o'clock" for "he ate a sock".
* RealJokeName: In one episode, Nico and Grady always write in fake names in the cafeteria list as a joke. All the sudden, someone actually named Ripa Big-One is seen taking his order at the cafeteria. Sonny laughs at the name, but Nico and Grady [[DudeNotFunny don't find it funny at all]] and even give Sonny {{The Reason You Suck Speech}}.
* RelationshipUpgrade: '''FINALLY!'''
* TheRival: ''Mackenzie Falls''.
* {{Ruritania}}: Glendovia from Season 2 Episode 2: Sonny Get Your Goat.
* SadistTeacher: The cast of So Random's teacher, Ms. Bitterman. The woman practices scowling! However, she cheers up for an episode when she dates Marshall.
* SecretRelationship: Sonny and Chad keep their relationship a secret from the rest of the ''So Random!'' cast in the first two episode of when they started dating. They eventually find out, however.
* SecondEpisodeIntroduction: Chad Dylan Cooper.
* SeriousBusiness: How Chad (and everyone else on the show) consider their roles on Mackenzie Falls.
* SetBehindTheScenes: The studio that hosts ''So Random!!'' and ''Mackenzie Falls''.
* ShipTease:
** Sonny and Chad are shaping up to have classic BelligerentSexualTension.
*** Even moreso in the Season 2 opener; when Chad is in the hospital, he calls Sonny over to his bedside and from their dialogue, even Sonny believes that Chad is about to tell her that he loves her.
** In the episode "Falling For The Falls," where [[spoiler:[[RelationshipUpgrade start dating]]!]]
* ShoutOut:
** Zora appears to be patterned in part on ''Series/AllThat'' alumna Amanda Bynes' "Ask Ashley" character.
** And oh so very much in the episode where Music/SelenaGomez appeared. Everything from ''Series/WizardsOfWaverlyPlace'' to Music/DemiLovato's and Music/SelenaGomez's real life friendship.
** The "Sicky Vicky" sketch is a more direct reference to the Ask Ashley.
** When Tawni vows not to look in the mirror for two days, she is unable to put makeup on without looking like a clown, which leads to her saying [[Film/TheDarkKnight "Why so serious?"]] to Nico and Grady with Joker-esque makeup on.
** The episode where Sonny meets the star of the 'Tri-dark' series, Blake ''Radisson''. She's totally Team Frederick.
** In "Gummy With a Chance", when Sonny tells Tawni about her visions, Tawni mocks her, responding with "Who are you? [[Series/ThatsSoRaven Raven]]?"
** Many sketches seem to be shout outs to ''Series/AllThat''. The aforementioned Sicky Vicky could be a shout out to Ask Ashley, the Check It Out Girls could be a shout out to the Inconvenience Store (especially when Nico and Grady played them), and Fasty's Really Fast Food could be a shout out to Good Burger.
** One episode of Mackenzie Falls mentions a 'freak ballooning accident', likely a direct reference to the 'Moody's Point' soap sketch from ''Series/TheAmandaShow''.
** The song in "The Legend of Candyface" is a parody of [[Theatre/SweeneyToddTheDemonBarberOfFleetStreet "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd"]].
* ShowWithinAShow: ''Mackenzie Falls'' & ''So Random!'' are the main shows. Later subverted, now that the show within a show ''is'' [[Series/SoRandom a show!]]
* SoapWithinAShow: ''Mackenzie Falls'', also partially {{defictionaliz|ation}}ed.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: It's Tawni not Tawn''y''.
* SpiritualSuccessor: Not the actual series so much as the "show within a show" being patterned after ''All That''. In fact, Brian Robbins, creator of ''All That'', is listed as a producer.
* SpitTake: Done with Sonny eating worms, Grady eating worms, and Sonny at the end of a later episode demonstrating specifically how to perform the spit take.
* StockFootage: Some episodes have flashbacks to past episodes relevant to the subject at hand.
* SuckECheeses: Arcadia, though it's probably more of a Dave & Buster's pastiche.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial:
-->'''Zora:''' Where's Sonny?
-->'''Connie:''' She's not with Chad.
-->'''Zora:''' She's with Chad.
* StealthPun: The title. At first it simply sounds like it means that Sonny has a chance at X (namely being on the show) and it takes awhile to realize that it's about weather forecasting.
* SweetPollyOliver: Sonny dresses up as a guy named Eric, her fake number-one fan in "You Got Fan Mail" when she hadn't received any fan mail from any of her fans.
* TakeThat:
** The whole point of ''Mackenzie Falls.'' TakeThat, Series/GossipGirl!
** One of the episodes has a fake music video about "SPS", aka Skinny Pants Syndrome. It's both a TakeThat at such music videos and a TakeThat at Disney's ''Friends For Change'' PSA's (such as Demi's and [[Music/TheJonasBrothers Joe Jonas']] "Make A Wave") and similar Disney Channel spots.
* ThatCameOutWrong: Ironically, this trope is how Sonny and Chad became an OfficialCouple. Sonny has just started watching Mackenzie Falls and starts asking Chad what will happen between Mackenzie and Chloe. However, she misplaces her words into making it sound like she is begging him to ask her out instead and he does.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Nico and Grady.
* TokenMinority:
** Nico, as the only African American member of the main cast.
** Sonny herself, as the cast's only Hispanic.
* TomboyishName: Sonny, which is a tomboyish ''nickname'' for her real name, Allison.
* TooDumbToLive: Grady once mistook an acting hopeful for Nico when the real Nico had ''walked into the room with him''.
* {{Tsundere}}: Sonny is a Type B toward Chad. She's nice to everyone except her love interest.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Sonny and Tawni.
* VomitingCop: A non-cop, non-death-oriented example, with [[TheCasanova Chad]] actually getting so nervous over his date with Sonny that he [[VomitIndiscretionShot goes 'Dolphin Boy' all over her]]. Apparently, Chad wasn't NiceToTheWaiter, because one turned {{Paparazzi}} on him and sold the shot, making for [[OnceDoneNeverForgotten a ''Tween'' magazine cover he'll never live down]].
* VomitIndiscretionShot: Taken to [[RuleOfFunny hilariously comic extremes by Chad]], when he achieves EpicFail after taking Sonny out on a date and has a CantHoldHisLiquor moment (with water!), causing him to spew all over Sonny.
* VorpalPillow: Sonny does a variation of this to Chad when he brags about how kids will stop reading books after seeing Mackenzie Falls' walkathon against books.
* WakingNonSequitur: When Chad gets knocked out by Zora during her karate training, he wakes up with a blurry vision and says "I drew on the wall with crayons, mommy!".
* {{Wedgie}}: A montage in the episode High School Miserable has Grady repeatedly receive wedgies.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse:
** Zora doesn't show up for the first two episodes of Season 2, though she's been absent before in a couple episodes in Season 1. She also didn't even appear in the last episode of season 2. Her disappearance is never commented on or explained.
** In another Zora example, [[ScareChord the second violin being played]] was never explained.
** Sonny and Tawni are constantly fighting with each other in "Sonny Get Your Goat". They make up at the end, [[NoodleIncident but what caused them to argue was never mentioned]].
** Who told Chad that he was the host of his (technically Zora's) reality show ''Celebrity Practical Jok'd''?
