''[[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/profile Tower of Animus]]'' is a JournalRoleplay which began on Livejournal but moved to Dreamwidth, and concluded in 2014.

Somewhere, in a world not associated with any other, there's a lone Tower surrounded by [[OminousFog fog]]. This Tower has no entrances and no exits; people simply wake up in a bed provided for them, and are given some of their possessions in a trunk and a couple of letters explaining the situation. From there, they are trapped in the Tower and expected to live there, under the watchful eyes of the Tower administration; for better or for worse.
----
!!''Tower of Animus'' provides examples of:
%%Administrivia/ZeroContextExamples are not allowed on the wiki. Please expand them with context before uncommenting them. Thank you.
%%* AlienGeometries: Riki's pod in the Infighting event.
* ApocalypseHow: Class 4 across a multitude of worlds. At least, according to the administrators of the Tower.
%%* ArcNumber: 037.
* BearsAreBadNews:
** The Hitori Kakurenbo event featured living teddy bears that killed whoever they encountered.
** [[VideoGame/{{Persona4}} Kanji Tatsumi]] was slowly turned into a bear during the Infighting event. Which ended with him being covered in pink fur, having no organs, his entire body being stuffed in fluff and his brain taken out.
%%** Captain Cinnamon Claws has become particularly notorious among the player base.
%%* BiggerOnTheInside: Many of the floors seem to be this.
%%* {{Bizarrchitecture}}: And this.
%%* BodyHorror: In ''spades''.
* BookEnds: [[spoiler: Jason's death]]. The first time the Labyrinth appeared, [[spoiler:Jason killed Zelda]]. The second time it appeared, [[spoiler:Zelda killed Jason. Zelda also killed Jason by making precise strikes at weak points, something Jason himself is famous for.]]
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: There's quite a few examples.
** [[VideoGame/Persona3 Ryoji]] and [[VideoGame/Persona2 Jun]] both, while under the effect of a [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica Witch's Kiss.]]
** [[VideoGame/Persona3 AU!Minato]] had an entire episode of this thanks to a combination of a TraumaCongaLine [[spoiler:and AU![[Webcomic/{{Homestuck}} Karkat]]'s Mind Control abilities telling him to murder people and just generally cause havoc.]] [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/232959.html He did not disappoint]].
** [[VideoGame/Persona3 Minami]] had this happen to her as well many moons ago, when [[spoiler: the fragment of Death inside her used her to murder plenty of people]].
** [[VideoGame/Persona3 OU!Minato]] also [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/241500.html had this happen]], though he was [[Anime/CodeGeass under Lelouch's control]]. It leads one to wonder if any Persona user is safe from mind control at this point.
%%* BrotherhoodOfEvil: The villains have formed one of these.
* CameBackWrong:
** A large likelihood if a character dies during an event.
** Every single soul from the universe your character originates from has been revealed to be in the Tower, too. [[spoiler:Except they're not really themselves, anymore. Rather, they've become [[http://animusmods.dreamwidth.org/11658.html Psychelysis Phantoms]].]]
* ClingyCostume: During the Trick-or-Treat event, characters woke up dressed in various Halloween costumes that could not be taken off.
%%* CloudCuckooLander: [[VideoGame/JetSetRadio Rhyth]] definitely qualifies as this.
* ColourCodedCharacters: The collar colors of all the different characters (which are assigned by the mods upon acceptance into the game), though why characters get the colors they do is up for debate.
* CosmopolitanCouncil: [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Ganondorf]] set up a council where the villains can meet and be villainous.
%%* CreepyChild:
%%** Zo (in ways).
%%** Let's not forget good old Pharos and Lucifer of SMT/Persona fame.
%%** Some of the Homestuck characters have their moments.
* {{Cyborg}}: [[VideoGame/Persona3 Jin]] gradually became one of these over the course of the Infighting event, thanks to Jason.
* DarkWorld: Parts of the tower were made into the dark world during a [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/525140.html?view=top plot]] orchestrated by Ganondorf and Richtofen.
* DeadlyGame: The Labyrinth event and the Hitori Kakurenbo event, and thanks to [[PsychopathicManchild Ruana]], the Infighting event as well. Animus really likes these.
%%* DeadpanSnarker: Where to begin?
* DeathOfAChild: Kids can and do die in this game. For example, during the [[Manga/DeadmanWonderland Branch of Sin]] event, [[spoiler:[[Manga/{{Yotsuba}} Yotsuba Koiwai]] was killed once she stumbled across Wretched Egg and Hagire Rinichiro.]]
* DeathIsASlapOnTheWrist: The attitude a handful of characters have taken because of the tower respawn.
* DeathIsNotPermanent: Characters typically wake up the next day after suffering a death.
* TheDeterminator: So many players have lost track of how many times [[Literature/BookGirl Tohko Amano]] has died, but despite this, she still insists on acting as a relationship counselor to [[Manga/FutureDiary Yukiteru Amano and Yuno Gasai]], [[DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu trying to scold some of the worst villains in the Tower including the Administrators]], and hanging out with almost every OmnicidalManiac in the game.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: When [[VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising Dark Pit]] put [[VideoGame/GoldenSun Sheba]] on his shoulders and tried to lance Jason, allowing [[Franchise/KingdomHearts Xion]] to run past him which [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/662535.html?thread=64165639#cmt64165639 successfully distracted him enough]] to let their entire group escape.
%%* DuoTropes: Between all the interactions, there's at least one of each flavor.
* EldritchAbomination:
** [[Webcomic/{{Homestuck}} Feferi]] was turned into one during the Infighting event. First, the Cthulu kind, then the cute plush toy kind.
** On that note, so was [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/218408.html?thread=18781480#cmt18781480 Jason's]][[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/218408.html?thread=18782248#cmt18782248 Pod]] during Week Three.
%%** [[Fanfic/NobodyDies T!Rei]] starts turning into this when her core is damaged.
%%* EldritchLocation: Riki is rather fond of making the Tower seem like one of these.
* EvilGloating: An increasingly popular use of the network for the villains (particularly [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Ganondorf]] and [[Franchise/MarvelUniverse Dr. Doom]]).
* EvilIsOneBigHappyFamily: Subverted and joked about by the playerbase in a [[Film/TheGodfather Godfather]] variant. Join once, and you are a member until the end...
* FauxYay: The [[Webcomic/{{Homestuck}} Daves]] have been in a game of [[Webcomic/ManlyGuysDoingManlyThings Spartan Gay Chicken]] for a few months now, all for irony's sake. It's getting out of hand.
* FloatingContinent: Floors 32, 33, 34 and 35 (31 and 36 if you include the floors that border the floating island floors) inexplicably, with a stair winding around the outside.
%%* ForgetsToEat:
%%** Many, many characters are guilty of this from time to time.
%%** Inverted in that you actually ''cannot eat anything else'' until the first terrible tasting bowl of oatmeal is consumed.
* FreakyFridayFlip: Happened under Jason, [[spoiler: with [[IdentityAmnesia horrible side effects]].]]
* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: The Pandemic event saw a giant whale crash into the Tower from the outside. It returned for a brief encore during the Rumor Has It event.
%%* GlamourFailure: And how!
* HeroicBSOD: Anyone who still could feel emotions during the Infighting event. Notably:
** [[VideoGame/Persona3 AU!Jin]] had a notable one after coming back to his senses and realizing he'd been brainwashed into operating on all the people in Jason's Pod.
** [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Zelda]] had a pretty bad one when she saw [[Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers England]] die, too, and the smaller America freaked out.
%%* HeWhoFightsMonsters:
%%** [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica Sayaka]] has definitely [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/218408.html?thread=18889256#cmt18889256 begun to take on shades]] of this. Not that she didn't have them canonically!
%%** [[VideoGame/Persona3 AU!Strega]] does this for a ''living''. Minato is the most notable of them, however, as he picks the hits.
* HonoraryUncle: Zett Takajo dubbed both Enoch and Lucifel as his. Given that he is a demon and they are the scribe of Heaven and an archangel respectively, the relationship is a little strange.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: There are a lot of these.
** AU!Xion and Justice Arcana [[VideoGame/{{Persona3}} Strega!Ken]] think Master Xehanort is a nice old man who can teach them lots of things. AU!Kanaya is also in the boat of thinking Master Xehanort is a pretty cool old dude. Of course, she also thought stabbing was just Jack Noir's way of saying hello.
** Self-proclaimed Ally of Justice [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica Sayaka]] gets along really well with the members of the villainous group [[VideoGame/Persona3 Strega]].
** [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Fem!Link]] thinks Kuja is a nice, considerate person with great magic ability.
** AU!Dave, between Lelouch, Master Xehanort, and Strega...in all fairness, he's not one to care.
** [[Literature/FateZero KARIYA MATOU]]. He's friends with Doctor Doom.
** [[VideoGame/Persona4Arena Labrys]] seems to think [[NightmareFetishist Mono]][[Franchise/{{Danganronpa}} maru]] is an upstanding student council member.
** [[VideoGame/Persona3 Ryoji]] thought that [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Ganondorf]] and his allies worked to save everyone and helped them in the Dark World Plot. It [[http://animus-network.dreamwidth.org/241769.html?thread=20611689#cmt20611689 hit him back]], hard.
* HorrorHunger: The aftermath of dying and regenerating without meeting the candy quota for the day during the Trick Or Treat event.
* AHouseDivided:
** The managers have begun to turn on each other, and are now getting the residents caught up in their antics.
** The admins appear to be attempting to invoke this in the Tower residents as well, including things like brainwashing people at random to try to discover resistance efforts, and a rather pointed reference to [[LaResistance Pandora]] in the Idealism event.
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight:
** Quite a few of these have happened during brainwashing or mass-murder player plots, or during other events.
** Almost guaranteed to happen whenever [[Manga/DeadmanWonderland Shiro]] goes [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Wretched Egg]].
* InvoluntaryBattleToTheDeath: The Labyrinth Experiment took several characters into a labyrinth where they had to kill each other until only one was left standing. And just to make everything better, each character already had a collar around their neck.
* ItsAllUpstairsFromHere: The Tower occasionally expands itself a few floors at a time, and always upward.
* JokeItem: Some characters received these as randomized weapons in the Labyrinth event. [[Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers France]] getting a megaphone is notable.
%%* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: Dax and Jason]]
* KnightInSourArmor: With her experience from [[Roleplay/AFacility the Facility]] combined with living in the Tower, [[Franchise/TouhouProject Remilia]] has started to turn into one of these.
* LaResistance:
** Dax's Army, as it's been dubbed by the muns.
** The ''entirety'' of Jason's pod became this during the Infighting event. Their success got Jason disqualified.
* MadDoctor: Jason is in charge of the medical needs of the Tower. He is also kind of a sociopath.
%%** [[VideoGame/NaziZombies Richtofen]] isn't much better.
* MercyKill:
** Some members of Jason's pod in the Infighting event (notably, AU!Minato) plan to try this, since being in Jason's pod is a FateWorseThanDeath.
** Sayaka [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/211654.html?thread=18411974#cmt18411974 succeeded]] in one. [[PyrrhicVictory Temporarily.]]
** Pretty much how Jade!Eridan got his arm back, via Teal!Feferi.
** [[VideoGame/Persona3 AU!Minato]] ended up [[http://animus-ooc.dreamwidth.org/194395.html?thread=3331675#cmt3331675 lobotomized]] for trying during the Infighting event, but [[spoiler: he somewhat succeeded when he went on a mass-murdering AxCrazy rampage after [[Webcomic/{{Homestuck}} AU!Karkat's]] mind and emotional manipulation abilities took hold of him]]. Sadly, it did no good.
** [[Literature/{{Slayers}} Lina Inverse]] [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/231480.html attempted this]], ''[[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill on the whole tower]]'', but was prevented by the tower itself.
** [[VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss Luke]] [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/357314.html?thread=30941378#cmt30941378 attempted this]] with [[VideoGame/Persona4 corrupted Yu]] during the Halloween event, only to be stopped short by the fact that Yu was ''far'' more powerful.
** [[Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers England]] [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/640668.html did one]] for colonial America during the [[http://animus-ooc.dreamwidth.org/375086.html Idealism]] event, though it was [[ShootTheDog without America's knowledge]].
* MundaneSolution: Many elements of the Ex Machina event, where the characters - and their players - tried to find many complex solutions to the puzzles, only to find out it was something rather simple they overlooked.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: The ''SMT/Persona'' cast has many, many characters going through this. To name a few:
** [[VideoGame/{{Persona4}} Yu]] upon seeing the results of voting (which included his own vote) in the Infighting event.
** [[VideoGame/{{Persona3}} Minami]] after her fragment of Death took over and she killed several people.
** [[VideoGame/{{Persona3}} AU!Minato]] after his brainwashed murder rampage.
** [[VideoGame/{{Persona3}} AU!Jin]] had a particularly [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/224434.html?thread=19380658#cmt19380658 heartbreaking]] moment of this at the end of the Infighting event.
%%* NightmareFetishist: [[Literature/FateZero Ryuunosuke]] asked Jason out.
* NonPlayerCharacter:
** The five 'administrators' of the tower, most of them unpleasant to deal with.
** In a more straight-up example, there are multitudes of identity-less tower drones - people with red or clear collars who seem to lack any will of their own, that perform various tasks and busywork about the place.
%%* NoodleIncident: ''Whale'' is well on its way to becoming one.
%%* OntologicalMystery
* OurSoulsAreDifferent: Directly invoked. According to [[spoiler:the research Dax left after his death]], the soul in Animus' world seems to be defined best as the sense of self/identity, so that even characters who might not have their world's definition of a "soul" have one in the Tower
* PlotRelevantAgeUp: The Tower is Forever Event, where everyone was made to believe they had gone through a TimeSkip.
* PowerIncontinence:
** What happened to anyone whose collar went down the color spectrum during the swap event.
** In a slightly different flavor, it happens when around certain monsters or during certain events, as well.
** The red-collared retrieval units and the administrators can disable all abilities, too.
%%* PutTheLaughterInSlaughter: [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Hallelujah]] and [[VideoGame/NaziZombies Richtofen]] are particularly notable examples of this.
* RealMenCook:
** Quite a few characters are notable for this one, particularly [[Anime/DarkerThanBlack Hei]], Shinjiro Aragaki and Minato Arisato of ''VideoGame/Persona3'' fame.
** Subverted with [[FanFic/RedDeadVirgo Equius]], who cooks constantly but is otherwise not masculine in any sense of the word.
%%* ReplacementGoldfish: So. Many. Replica. Characters.
* SecretProjectRefugeeFamily:
** [[VideoGame/Persona4 Yu Narukami]] pretty much adopted [[VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss Luke]] after the Infighting event, and made it official after the Shadows player event. Asch ended up adopted later by extension. Then he added [[Franchise/KingdomHearts Xion]] to this family when [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Reno]] disappeared from the tower. This was made official during the Massive Infiltration plot.
** [[Literature/FateZero Zero Lancer]] adopted [[Anime/FatePrototype ProtoLancer]] as his younger brother and [[VideoGame/Persona3 Ryoji]], [[VideoGame/Persona4Arena Labrys]], [[Anime/CodeGeass Suzaku]], and [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica Mami]] as his children.
%%** [[VideoGame/Persona3 AU!Strega]], ''and how''!
%%** Many of the members of Jason's group during the Infighting event have a chance of becoming this, if they aren't ''already''!
%%** Team Protag/YOLO Protags/[[{{ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin}} Ohana]] became this in Something Unexpected...
%%** The "Replica Herd" is slowly becoming this. ...Very, very slowly.
%%** Much of the Replica Herd and the rest of Team NOLO has basically become this as of the Massive Infiltration Plot.
%%* ShipperOnDeck: Ruana [[spoiler:even came to Reno and Elena's wedding.]]
%%* SirSwearsALot: [[Webcomic/{{Homestuck}} Dave Strider]] and [[Anime/FatePrototype Lancer]]
* SpaceWhale: One had attacked the Tower and made the normally enigmatic admins crap their pants.
* TheStarscream: [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Ganondorf]]'s ambition and plan is to overthrow the administrators and rule over the tower himself.
* SuicideByCop: [[VideoGame/Persona3 Strega!Ken]] did this ''his second day'' with an event-addled [[VideoGame/Persona3 Minami]]'s 'aid', as he was just off of [[spoiler: Shinjiro's death]] in his canon. He got better due to [[DeathIsNotPermanent tower respawn]].
* SurroundedByIdiots:
** [[Literature/TheLordOfTheRings Gandalf]] has a meltdown at [[http://animus-network.dreamwidth.org/224633.html THE ENTIRE TOWER]] after a month of questionable decisions from other characters.
** [[VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss Luke]], [[IdiotHero of all people]], while he doesn't say it, definitely has one of these moments during the [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/525140.html?thread=47656532#cmt47656532 Power Dungeon boss fight]] in the Dark World player event.
** [[OnlyKnownByHisNickname OU!Riku]] [[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsChainOfMemories Replica]] continued the trend when [[VideoGame/Persona3 Ryoji]] learned he misjudged Ganondorf and the villains' intentions [[http://animus-network.dreamwidth.org/241769.html?thread=20611433#cmt20611433 the hard way.]]
%%* SweetPollyOliver: Fem!Link
* TitleDrop: The Tower was finally named in-character during a conversation with [[http://animus-network.dreamwidth.org/176439.html?thread=14931767#cmt14931767 Ruana]] as "Tower Designation Animus." Later on in that post we get an even more blatant one:
--> "it's better to drown or burn to death in a fire or be skinned and roasted alive than to lose your soul in the tower of animus"
* TokenGoodTeammate: Oftentimes it seems like Dax is the only manager of the Tower with any sense of common morality.
* TomatoInTheMirror: All characters are [[spoiler:just a little ball of light (their soul) trapped in a wireframe body full of their collar color liquid. Everything else about them is an illusion]]
%%* TheTower: Obviously.
%%* TransformationOfThePossessed: When Yggdrasil took over [[FanFic/RedDeadVirgo David]] during the Labyrinth event.
%%* TwentyBearAsses: If you plan on eating at the Restaurant. Just don't fail, or it will cost you AnArmAndALeg. Literally.
* UniversalTranslator: It doesn't matter what language you see, speak, or hear: the Tower somehow translates it, though everything in the game is written mostly in English.
%%* WhamEpisode:
%%** [[http://towerofanimus.dreamwidth.org/515071.html Something Unexpected]]...
%%** [[spoiler: Dax's death]].
%%** Divide By Zero failure [[spoiler: aka WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THESE WIRES and Error 037]].
%%* WhatIsGoingOn: ''Everyone.''
* WithFriendsLikeThese:
** Jaderi and Gamzee started out as [[LonelyTogether rather cute, friendly morons]] who got high and did cute, friendly things. Then [[DespairEventHorizon the Tower happened]] and now they are self-declared murderbros. Would be VitriolicBestBuds, if not for the bit where they wantonly murder each other. Suffice it to say, though, that trying to hurt one while the other is around is [[BerserkButton not a very smart thing to do.]]
** [[Literature/BookGirl Tohko Amano]] thought she'd give [[Manga/FutureDiary Yukiteru Amano]] a gift to give to [[{{Yandere}} Yuno Gasai]] for White Day, to show her approval of their relationship. The only thing about this that registered in Yuno's mind was "[[BerserkButton Tohko gave Yukiteru a gift.]]"
