Bart gets in trouble for setting off the steam pipes in the school. The punishment: time in a behavioral modification camp in Oregon. Unfortunately, Bart has been put on the "No Fly" list after unbuckling his seat belt before the plane to Atlanta could land, so Homer must sacrifice his Vegas trip (funded by Moe, who won a settlement from a company that makes the faulty rope he recently used in a suicide attempt) to take Bart to the camp. Meanwhile, Marge and Lisa clean house and hold a garage sale -- and Marge inadvertently becomes a drug dealer when everyone begins buying the family's expired medication.

!!This episode provides examples of...
* BathroomBreakOut: While eating in a diner, Bart makes Homer think he's doing this to escape him, so he tries to follow him, only to get stuck in the window. Then Bart tells the chef that Homer's trying to do a dine and dash.
* BecauseImGoodAtIt: Bart justifies his bad behavior this way, saying that pulling pranks is the only thing he's good at.
* CallingTheOldManOut / CallingTheYoungManOut: Homer and Bart back and forth after Homer chains Bart up in the passenger seat.
-->'''Bart:''' Dad, I think you actually enjoy seeing your own son suffer!
-->'''Homer:''' I don't enjoy it! Being a father is just a job! Long hours, no pay, and at the end, all you get is someone yelling, "You screwed me up"!
-->'''Bart:''' Well, maybe if you enjoyed me more, I wouldn't ''be'' so screwed up!
* CelebrityParadox: Homer Simpson, a creation of Creator/MattGroening, is aware of and complains about the existence of Matt Groening.
* ColdTurkeysAreEverywhere: In Homer's ImagineSpot of Vegas, everything he sees reminds him of Bart. He goes back to rescue Bart out of guilt.
* ConscienceMakesYouGoBack: Homer doesn't even get as far as Vegas before he's turned around to retrieve Bart, imagining himself there and knowing he won't enjoy himself after having left Bart at the camp.
* DiabolusExMachina: Homer decided to take Bart with him to Las Vegas. Next time we hear from him, he explains that he got arrested.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Bart is absolutely ''relentless'' towards Homer, and even fakes being sad about being on the "No Fly List" and completely jackknifing his father's plans, claiming maybe ''this'' [[TemptingFate would finally be what turned him around]]. Then he's legitimately ''shocked'' when he puts his foot down and decided to drive him there himself, and for once was completely strict and focused on his driving (to the point where he shouts into his ear asking "fun Homer" to "fight back"). Considering how much he's messed with him and plenty of others with his pranks, and considering he's so inconsiderate of his father, to the point of referring to him always as "Homer", and never as "dad", he really should've planned on if-or-when he finally snapped.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Because of Bart unbuckling his seatbelt before his plane in Atlanta came to a complete stop, [[InsaneTrollLogic the pilot flew the plane back to Minneapolis before anyone could get off]].
* DontExplainTheJoke: Combined with LampshadedTheObscureReference.
-->'''Chief Wiggum:''' Save it, Ma Peddle.\
'''Lou:''' Ma Peddle?\
'''Chief Wiggum:''' It's a reference to Ma Kettle, a movie character from the 1940s.\
'''Lou:''' Chief, if you have to explain it, it's not very good.
* DownerEnding: Marge is arrested for selling drugs and is being held in prison with $10,000 bail, while Homer took Bart to Vegas and is now in Nevada State Prison after getting into a fight with a pit boss while Bart ends up missing. Lisa and Maggie are the only ones left to fend for themselves and the episode ends with Lisa vowing to look for work in the morning. Fortunately, [[SnapBack everything is back to normal by the beginning of the next episode]].
* FelonyMisdemeanor: Bart got put on the No Fly List for unbuckling his seatbelt before his plane came to a full stop.
* FrivolousLawsuit: Moe sues a company that made a rope that broke when he was trying to hang himself.
* GaveUpTooSoon: It's implied that--much as in the incident in "Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie" where Homer failed to hold out on making Bart skip dinner--Bart was on the verge of actually learning his lesson before Homer came to pick him up from camp. On the other hand, [[ShaggyDogStory they were about to tell Homer his card had been declined anyway]].
* GhostInTheMachine: We go inside Homer's head to see that the harsh and militaristic Serious Homer has locked up drunk, crazy Fun Homer and is threatening to murder him just like he murdered Intellectual Homer ([[ThisExplainsSoMuch which is one of many, many reasons why Homer is an idiot]]).
* GoryDiscretionShot: While driving back to get Bart from the camp, we hear a loud thud followed by Homer screaming "Stupid horse! The sign says ''deer'' crossing!" and then the windshield of his car with streaks of blood on it.
* {{Jerkass}}:
** Bart throughout much of the episode.
** Marge & Lisa go through all of Homer and Bart's stuff and end up selling it all in a yard sale.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Bart points out to Homer that by driving him to a boys camp, he would unfortunately have to miss out on his trip to Las Vegas.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Marge gets arrested for selling expired pills and trying to sell Bart and Homer's stuff (albiet with less than successful results).
* MoodSwinger: Homer's car is hanging off the edge of a cliff. Bart goes outside and when he is about to push it in, Homer gets incredibly angry and gives him death threats. When he tips it closer to the ground, Homer acts nice to him, then resumes threatening him after Bart helps him. [[OverlyLongGag This continues for about a minute]].
* MythologyGag: Homer mentions Oregon as being the birthplace of Matt Groening, and later accidentally destroys his birth home.
* NoodleIncident:
** Homer's SkywardScream is heard by Lenny, Carl, and Moe. Following this is a very loud, echoing "[[CatchPhrase Ha ha!]]" from Nelson. Carl comments that "Nelson saw something funny!", but it's never shown who or what Nelson is laughing at, especially if it's so funny that he laughs that loud.
** We never find out why Bart was flying from Minneapolis to Atlanta by himself.
* OhCrap:
** Homer's reaction when he realizes that because Bart is on the "No Fly List", he would have to sacrifice his Las Vegas trip in order to drive him to camp.
** When Marge tells someone on the other end of her door that she's out of drugs to sell, she has this reaction when she sees that Chief Wiggum is on the other side.
* OverlyLongGag:
** Ned singing all the colors in the theme to ''Theatre/JosephAndTheAmazingTechnicolorDreamcoat''. To make it more excruciating, as he reaches the last color, he starts at the beginning again!
** Bart tipping the car over the cliff, and Homer's mood swings.
* PersonaNonGrata: Bart's on the airport's 'No Fly' list because he unbuckled his seatbelt.
* PetTheDog: Bart has the chance to let the car fall off a cliff with Homer in it, but ultimately couldn't bring himself to do it despite Homer threatening to kill him.
** Homer came as an UngratefulBastard at first by leaving Bart at the camp despite Bart saving him, but changed his mind and broke Bart out.
* PromotionToParent: During TheStinger, Lisa comes home from school to an empty house, sans Maggie who's alone in her high-chair. When Lisa check's the messages on the answering machine, first Marge calls the house and asks Homer to hire a lawyer because she got arrested for selling his pain medication at her garage sale. Then, Homer asks Marge for a large sum of money because he accrued a large gambling debt in a casino, and that he lost track of Bart doesn't know where he is. Lisa then tells Maggie that she knew it would just be the two of them some day, and non-nonchalantly states she'll look for a job in the morning.
* PushoverParents: As Bart acknowledges and Homer admits, the "fun" side of Homer is at war with the "serious" Homer that wants to put his foot down. Homer's serious side holds out for most of the episode, but his softer nature wins out in the end.
* RememberTheNewGuy: Apparently, Skinner now has a secretary named Myra and she seems on okay-ish terms with Bart, despite having never appeared before this episode.
* SelfDeprecation: One of Homer's complaints about Oregon is being the birthplace of Creator/MattGroening. Later on, while distracted, he mows down a shack with the sign "Birthplace of Matt Groening".
* ShoutOut: The band plays (and eventually hums) the ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}'' theme music.
