As he gets ready for the day, [=SpongeBob=] wonders to Gary how Patrick's mornings are. As the episode shows, fairly chaotic.
!! Rise and Shine contains examples of:
* BottleEpisode: This episode largely revolves around Patrick getting ready for the day.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: Patrick claims what he went through this morning is ''usual''.
* ContinuityNod: The live-action footage of the dancing anemone is reused from "Your Shoe's Untied" and "The Sponge Who Could Fly".
* ADayInTheLimelight: It's a Patrick episode. [=SpongeBob=] gets a few lines and sets up the episode but does little else.
* DecoyProtagonist: [=SpongeBob=].
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: "And now live from Bikini Bottom, it's Bikini Bottom live!"
* MediumBlending: Patrick watches live-action footage of a dancing anemone on [=TV=].
* ShoutOut: Patrick, upon realising the time ([[ItMakesSenseInContext from the alarm clock that he was just about to eat]]), starts shrieking "[[WesternAnimation/AliceInWonderland I'm late! I'm late! I'm late!]]"
* {{Spoonerism}}: "I gotta put on my teeth and brush my pants!"

[=SpongeBob=] finds a toy offer inside his box of Kelpo cereal. When he cashes the box-tops in, he finds out that he has to wait for his toy in the mail, but his method of waiting is staying by the mailbox so he sees the mailman deliver it, and he denies requests to hang out with the others due to impatience.
!! Waiting contains examples of:
* AccidentallyBrokeTheMacGuffin: Subverted. After [=SpongeBob=] receives the Kelpo toy, Patrick touches it and its limbs spring out, and [=SpongeBob=] accuses him of breaking it after waiting so long. Then Squidward comes out and surprisingly de-springs it, and tells them it's ''supposed'' to spring its limbs.
* AnAesop: Don't waste your life waiting for something. You'll miss out on life and what you have dedicated your time to may be an underwhelming result.
* ArtisticLicense: The Kelpo toy has a button on its tummy which presumably should be pressed to make it spring, but whenever it does so, the head is nudged instead. Nudging the head would've technically caused the breakage in the first place, as it could jam the mechanism.
* AsideGlance: As [=SpongeBob=] explains what happened to Squidward, the latter gives one off in annoyance.
* BaitAndSwitch: "Free prize...''offer'' inside?!"
* BigDamnHeroes: When the alien toy [=SpongeBob=] receives gets sprung by Patrick and he believes he broke it, Squidward comes over and shows them it's ''supposed'' to do that, and he's relieved.
* BigWhat:
-->'''Patrick:''' Hey, buddy!\
'''[=SpongeBob=]:''' WHAAAAAT!? WHAT DO YOU WANT!?
* BottleEpisode: Although less bottled up than "Rise and Shine". The episode largely revolves around [=SpongeBob=]'s mailbox as he waits for his toy. A few characters come over but only Patrick stays around.
* BrokenSmile: After Patrick makes the toy spring, [=SpongeBob=] remains smiling for a few moments before shifting to anger and accusing him of breaking it.
* CaptainObvious: After [=SpongeBob=] buys up the 99 Kelpo boxes for the offer, he begins eating all the cereal without ripping their tops off; as Gary tells him, he realizes it would be much easier if he sends in the box tops ''before'' eating all the cereal.
* EpicFail: [=SpongeBob's=] birthday present turns out to be a fork so he can eat his cake.
* ForgottenBirthday: [=SpongeBob=] apparently misses his surprise birthday party while waiting for the toy.
* FreePrizeAtTheBottom: [=SpongeBob=] misreads a "Free Prize Inside" message by ignoring the small print advertising a "free prize offer inside". After sending in the offer, the titular wait is [=SpongeBob's=] wait at the mailbox for the prize to arrive.
* IdiotBall:
** Patrick has no excuse to not let [=SpongeBob=] hold the cake and present to free up both hands while he looks for the fork, or put them on the ground.
** Earlier on, [=SpongeBob=] begins eating all the cereal from the 99 Kelpo boxes he ordered; Gary provides a more rational explanation to send in the box tops ''before'' eating the cereal.
* JerkassBall: [=SpongeBob=] holds it, out of impatience for the toy. Although, he eventually [[JerkassRealization realizes it and feels remorseful]].
* JerkassHasAPoint: Squidward comes upon [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick over the seemingly broken Kelpo toy, only to miraculously de-spring it and tell them it's ''supposed'' to spring its limbs like that.
* ManChild: [=SpongeBob=] when his toy comes in. [=SpongeBob=] gets very frustrated when the toy he's been waiting for gets "broken" and eventually cries when Patrick makes things worse. Fortunately, Squidward helps out.
* MissingYourOwnParty: [=SpongeBob=] spends so much time waiting beside his mailbox for his new toy that he misses his surprise birthday party at the Krusty Krab. Patrick arrives to break the news to him and give him a slice of cake and a present. Unfortunately, Patrick ends up eating the cake slice by mistake while searching for the fork (he stored the slice in his mouth to free up a hand to look for the fork), and the present turns out to ''be'' the fork.
* MoodWhiplash: [=SpongeBob=] cries when he realizes what a jerk he's been, then instantly cheers up when his toy finally arrives, only for it to seemingly break. Cue instant fury, followed by more tears. Then Squidward arrives and tells them it's ''supposed'' to do that, and he's immediately all smiles again.
* PatiencePlot: The plot of the episode is [=SpongeBob=] waiting by his mailbox for a cereal box prize to arrive.
* PoorCommunicationKills: It somehow doesn't occur to [=SpongeBob=] to send in the 99 box tops ''before'' eating all that cereal he bought. Luckily, Gary reminds him.
* ReadTheFinePrint: When [=SpongeBob=] gets Kelpo with a free prize inside, there is nothing; then it turns out there is a really small "OFFER" in between the latter two words.
* RedHerring: At first when the toy springs, [=SpongeBob=] accuses Patrick of breaking the toy, then Squidward arrives and tells the two it's ''supposed'' to do that.
* SeriousBusiness: For [=SpongeBob=], waiting for the toy to arrive is real important, as he wants to actually ''see'' the mailman delivering it; and he worries if he leaves now, the mailman will come and deliver the toy while he is gone, thus missing the delivery.
* TheSlacker: [=SpongeBob=] neglects to feed Gary and makes Patrick do all the work setting up the cake and fork when he didn't have anything to do but wait for the toy.
* ThisIsGonnaSuck: After Patrick causes the Kelpo toy to spring, Patrick starts nervously asking [=SpongeBob=] if he is okay as he ascends into TranquilFury.
* TranquilFury: [=SpongeBob=] has this when he thinks Patrick broke the toy he waited so long for.
-->'''[=SpongeBob=]:''' I waited... so long... and you broke it.
* YouExclamation: Done by an angry [=SpongeBob=] when Patrick seemingly breaks his toy.

[=SpongeBob=] finds a gross fungus and accidentally spreads it to the customers in the Krusty Krab.
!! Fungus Among Us contains examples of:
* AnAesop:
** If you're sick, don't go to school/work or it will spread.
** If you come across something strange and unfamiliar, try to learn more about it. It could be dangerous and may require proper handling.
** If someone is responsible for spreading something, don't attack them physically or verbally. It might make the situation worse.
* BigNo: [=SpongeBob=] screams this when the angry customers come close to destroying his bubble and releasing the ick.
* BodyHorror: A relatively low-key example, but [=SpongeBob=]'s condition gets worse and worse overtime leading to him swelling to three times his height and spewing pus from large boils.
* BubbleBoy: [=SpongeBob=] is contained in a plastic bubble to prevent the spread of the "ick". When Patrick rips it up with a game of "Pirate Wrestling" (waving a sharp pirate hook around), he has the smart idea of making a bubble big enough to contain his friend while letting him go to work.
* ChekhovsGunman: Gary.
* FailedASpotCheck: Mr. Krabs, Squidward, and the customers in the Krusty Krab don't seem to notice the incredibly obviously large green fungi on the Krabby Patties and fries. Squidward eventually realizes he's been covered in ick and admits to spreading it, causing the customers to riot.
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** Gary was interested in eating the ick off of the bedroom floor in the beginning of the episode. At the end of the episode, Gary eats the ick off of everyone in the Krusty Krab.
** Also note that Gary is looking for food in a dumpster outside of the Krusty Krab before clearing the ick.
* InfectionScene: After Squidward calls in a SWAT team to take the ick-infected [=SpongeBob=] away by helicopter, a flake of ick falls off his body onto Squidward's head, which the camera zooms in on with ominous music. Squidward later shakes his head, unknowingly causing the ick to fly all over the Krabby Patties, and it spreads to the customers as they eat their food. After giving a customer some change with his infected tentacle, Squidward [[OhCrap realizes he's got the ick]] when he sees the customer push up his glasses and get ick on his face.
* {{Jerkass}}: The customers at the Krusty Krab who were infected with the ick.
* NeverMyFault: Mr. Krabs blames Squidward for the ick spreading, followed by Squidward blaming [=SpongeBob=]. While it is true that [=SpongeBob=] was the initial cause for the ick spreading, Squidward and Mr. Krabs are also at fault for infecting the customers since they were serving ick-covered food to the customers, [[FailedASpotCheck and they somehow didn't notice the ick on the food even though it was so easy to notice.]]
* OhCrap: Squidward, when he realizes he's been infected with the ick and spread it around the Krusty Krab.
* PlotHole: How Gary escaped from his bubble was never shown.
* RapidFireNo: Done by Squidward when Mr. Krabs makes him serve the food.
* ScreamingAtSquick: Squidward does it when he realizes that [=SpongeBob=] gave him the ick, and he gave it to everyone else.
* ShoutOut:
** The episode's title comes from Music/{{Incubus}}'s 1995 debut album, ''Fungus Amongus''.
** The way [=SpongeBob's=] house is covered in a plastic bag with police tape and barbed wire around it is similar to ''Film/ETTheExtraTerrestrial''.
* SickEpisode: Deals with [=SpongeBob=] with an "ick" sickness that spreads.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: [=SpongeBob=], who tries to clean the ick off his bedroom floor, but gets it on himself instead and unintentionally spreads it at work.
