!! Tropes associated with this episode

* AmusingInjuries: Stewie once saw Music/BobbyMcFerrin fall down a bunch of stairs in the most funny way possible.
* AntagonistTitle: Not a direct example, but Patrick is indeed the antagonist in this episode, and [[TitleDrop those very words are indeed used a few times]].
* BigEater: During lunch with the guys, Peter managed to eat seven 16 ounce steaks[[note]]over three kilograms worth[[/note]].
* BlatantLies: Carter denies that Lois has a brother despite showing proof of his existence in their family photo.
* BrickJoke:
** During a meeting of fat guys in the Griffon's living room, Stewie starts impersonating a carnival barker seeing who can find his penis first and win one dollar. Later, when the group band together to hunt down Patrick, one guy can be overheard saying "Hey, I found my penis!"
** To prove whether or not Patrick's "imaginary" wife is real, Brian and Stewie leave a cucumber on the couch, and if it pickles after a couple of weeks, then she's RealAfterAll. Later on in the episode, Lois asks who the pickle belongs to.
* CaptainObvious: After his physical (and being unable to deny it any longer), Peter announces to the rest of the family that he's come to an [[SarcasmMode earth-shattering revelation]]: he's fat.
* CarnivoreConfusion: At the steak restaurant where Peter, Quagmire, Cleveland and Joe eat endless giant steaks at, a cow is in the restaurant having just eaten two large steaks and plans to eat cheesecake for dessert.
* ContinuityNod: Brian throws a rock at Peter for rolling up the window when he tried to jump into the General Lee in "[[Recap/FamilyGuyS3E12ToLoveAndDieInDixie To Love And Die in Dixie]]."
* ContrivedCoincidence:
** Lois discovers that she has a long-lost brother who has a murderous hatred of fat guys in the same week that Peter starts a coalition for...fat guys. And to make it worse, the only reason Lois learns about Patrick is because Peter tries to prove he's thin by sticking a hula hoop over his large gut, which inadvertently knocks over an old family photo and reveals that a part of it has been folded over.
** Patrick's SerialKiller tendencies emerged when he was a little boy and watched his mother performing oral sex on Jackie Gleason. When Patrick mentions Gleason, Peter just so happens to have a bus driver's uniform waiting just offscreen and puts it on, sending Patrick over the edge and starting the Fat Guy Strangler murders.
* TheDogBitesBack: When Peter blames Meg for his being fat and announces that he has a plan to deal with it, Meg snaps back "You gonna lose some weight, ''fatass?''" in a rare showing of spine.
* EveryoneHasStandards: When chasing down Patrick, Todd, one of the members of the Association For Fat People, belches out a live chicken. Peter is appalled at the sight, and recommends for him to chew his food.
* FatAndProud: The entire purpose of the group Peter creates.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Lois inadvertently sets every fake-out about dying Dr. Hartman gave Peter into motion by releasing her murderous brother from the asylum.
* FridgeLogic: In-universe. When Brian tells Lois that Patrick is insane due to his imaginary wife he made up, Lois asks him if his wife is so imaginary then how can one explain the pickle on the couch. Brian realizes this confirms his theory of where Marianne is sitting and yells to Stewie.
* GruntingOrgasm: Jackie Gleason, apparently.
* HarmfulToMinors: When Patrick was a child, the sight of Jackie Gleason ejaculating on his mother Babs traumatized him.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Despite huge amounts of evidence otherwise, Lois doesn't want to believe Patrick is connected to the Fat Guy Strangler killings.
* HypocriticalHumor: Peter's meeting for fat men carries a sign reading "No Fat Chicks".
* ImAHumanitarian: After being found as evidence that Patrick is the killer, a half-dead fat guy asks if he could eat the other dead fat guy in the room. Later, Stevie comments that the half-dead fat guy is already eating the dead fat guy.
* ImplausibleDeniability: Lois absolutely refuses to believe that Patrick could be the Fat Guy Strangler. Brian shows her Patrick's room, where the walls are covered with pictures of strangled fat guys, the corpse of a fat guy is under his bed, and a half-dead fat guy who says Patrick tried to kill him. Lois remains resistant to the brazenly obvious until Brian yells at her.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Peter is a {{jerkass}}, but he had no way of knowing that Patrick was traumatized over Jackie Gleason. He still brainlessly does it again right after Patrick has been stopped.
* InstantlyProvenWrong: PlayedForLaughs when Brian shows Lois the overwhelming evidence about Patrick being the Fat Guy Strangler. Whenever she tries to defend him, something immediately contradicts her:
-->'''Brian''': What about the dead fat guy under the bed?
-->'''Lois''': Coincidence?
-->'''Brian''': What about the ''half-dead'' fat guy in the corner?
-->'''Half-Dead Fat Guy''': ''(Completely deadpan)'' Patrick tried to kill me.
* JerkassHasAPoint: While Carter was being a usual jerkass by lying to Lois about not having a brother, having Patrick put in an asylum turned out to be the right thing.
* LeftTheBackgroundMusicOn: A spoken version. Peter dresses as Jackie Gleason and inadvertently triggers a flashback for Patrick, who remembers the actor saying "POW, right in the kisser!" as Babs had an affair with him. Gleason's voice echoes...and we fade back to Peter, who is repeatedly saying "Pow, right in the kisser" for no apparent reason.
* NeverMyFault: Peter blames Meg, of all people, for him being so fat.
* NotSoImaginaryFriend: Implied with Marian. Brian and Stewie leave a cucumber in front of where she supposedly sits, and it pickles.
* OnlySaneMan: Brian realizes straight away that Patrick is the Fat Guy Strangler and tells Lois that it's pretty clear it's him. Lois however is in full blown denial.
* OverlyLongGag: Dr. Hartman's many fake-outs on whether Peter is healthy or not:
--> '''Lois''': So, Doctor? ls Peter healthy?\
'''Dr. Hartman''': Goodness. You'll be dead in a month.\
'''Lois''': What?\
'''Dr. Hartman''': Hägar the Horrible, if you keep up that lifestyle of pillaging and turkey legs, you'll be dead in a month. Now, onto you.\
'''Peter''': So what do you think? Pretty healthy?\
'''Dr. Hartman''': Well, Mr. Griffin, let's take a look at your physical results. ''(screams; Lois and Peter gasp)'' There's a spider in here. Now, here we go. Mr. Griffin, you're going to expire in a month. ''(Lois and Peter gasp)'' This is your driver's license, isn't it? I'm afraid you are going to die... ''(Lois and Peter gasp)'' when you watch these Dean Martin celebrity roasts!\
'''Lois''': Will you just tell us how Peter's health is?!\
'''Dr. Hartman''': Mr. Griffin, I'm not quite sure how to say this. Kim Bassinger? Kim Basinger? But now, onto the cancer.\
'''Lois''': My God.\
'''Dr. Hartman''': You are a Cancer, right? You were born in July? On to these test results. My, they're much worse than I thought. ''(Lois and Peter gasp)'' My son got a D minus on his history test. Now, that liver's got to come out.\
'''Peter''': What?\
'''Dr. Hartman''': It's been in the microwave for three minutes. Now-\
'''Lois''': Please. Please, we can't take any more shtick.
** The first meeting for fat people, which consists of a lot of belching, flatulence, heavy breathing, and unwrapping candy bars.
** Ball in a cup.
** "Pow! Right in the kisser!"
* PrimalScene: Patrick explains to Lois that his trauma started out like this when he walked into his mother's room asking for a drink of water and catches her and Jackie Gleason in their affair. Probably even worse is that [[CoitusUnInterruptus Gleason didn't bother to stop]].
* RiddleForTheAges: Why ''did'' Peter and Brian need the horse costume?
* ShoutOut: To:
** ''Series/TheHoneymooners'': Jackie Gleason (and later, Peter) doing his signature character's lines and mannerisms, including "Pow! Right in the kisser!"
** Music/BillyJoel: The "caveman who invented singing" performs Joel's 1984 hit "The Longest Time," a cappella style.
* StaircaseTumble: Music/BobbyMcFerrin fell down a flight of stairs while making funny noises in one cutaway gag, much to Stewie's amusement.
* ThisIsGonnaSuck: After Patrick introduces "Marian", Stewie merely sighs a deadpan "Oh, here we go...", knowing instantly things will go downhill from there.
* TraumaButton: Peter's insensitive impersonation of Ralph Kramden (from ''Series/TheHoneymooners'') triggers Patrick's trauma of seeing his mother and Jackie Gleason having an affair... and sets off his homicidal rage against overweight men.
* UnstoppableRage: PlayedForLaughs. Joe loses his temper, shoots the table, and threatens his friends at gunpoint for teasing him over being unable to finish his steak.
-->'''Joe:''' I SAID I'M NOT HUNGRY!!!! ''(shoots his steak into oblivion)'' WHERE IS IT NOW, HUH??? WHERE IS IT NOW????\
'''Cleveland:''' Easy, sailor. Easy.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Peter. First, he knocks over an old family photo of Lois, leading her to discover that she has a brother. Then, Peter pushes Patrick's TraumaButton by saying "Pow, right in the kisser!", which causes him to snap and start killing fat guys.
