->'''Wiz:''' The future. Everyone wants to see it, and why not? It has robots, flying cars, and, of course, superheroes.\
'''Boomstick:''' Yeah, the future still has those, but they're even cooler 'cause of the sweet gadgets.\
'''Wiz:''' Like [[Characters/DCAUTerryMcGinnis Terry McGinnis]], the WesternAnimation/BatmanBeyond.\
'''Boomstick:''' And Miguel O'Hara, [[ComicBook/SpiderMan2099 the Spider-Man from 2099]].

In a unique twist on the tried-and-true formula of pitting DC against Marvel, season four's fifteenth episode takes the companies' most iconic heroes and sees not those cultural icons, but their successors from dystopian futures, and pits them against one another. The hosts will match the support and skills of an original hero against a new take of time-honored classics, bleeding-edge technology against genetic modification, for Terry [=McGinnis=] and Miguel O'Hara, have done much to earn and hold the monikers of Batman Beyond and Spider-Man 2099, but against one another, only one can also do what it takes to claim victory in [[TitleDrop a death battle]].

Kicking off the episode is a look at the life of Terry [=McGinnis=], an ordinary teenager in the distant future of Gotham City, or so it would seem. The years of vigilante work took their toll on the original Batman, the aging billionaire Bruce Wayne, but in an effort to ensure Gotham would always have a dark knight watching over it, government figurehead Amanda Wallar collected his reproductive DNA to overwrite that of Terry's biological father Warren. Terry's life was full of violence and troublemaking, having served in street gangs at the age of fourteen; his life changed when he got involved with a motorcycle chase with the Jokerz street gang. [=McGinnis=] escaped the gangsters and found himself on the presence of Wayne Manor, where he found the secret that escaped Gotham for ages; the owner of the city's manor was also once its most feared vigilante, the Batman. After being greeted and subsequently kicked off the premises by Bruce himself, Terry returned to Gotham to find that the Jokerz murdered his father Warren. Distraught, Terry returned to the Batcave and stole one of Bruce's many suits, modeling himself into a new generation of the caped crusader, a Batman Beyond.

It just so happens that Terry stole not the original outfit of Wayne's, but the most advanced technology that was available to him. Leaps and bounds ahead of the original suit, Terry's Batsuit is a masterpiece, using nanotechnology to increase his strength and speed while also providing him with bulletproofing and his own array of equipment. Such a selection of gadgets and weapons can include infrared and ultraviolet vision, rocket propellers on the soles of his boots, a cloaking device, flight capabilities, an electric stun that can disable numerous foes, and retractable blades on the arms. The Batarangs that Bruce Wayne popularized in his heyday have likewise been improved and made much more versatile for his successor's usage; not only are the Batarangs sharper, but they also come in numerous varieties, explosive and electric included amongst them, and [=McGinnis=] can even fire them with an arm launcher. The suit is a technological marvel, but Terry is no slouch himself, having been trained in martial arts by former Robin Dick Grayson and even Bruce Wayne. On that note, Bruce, once he forgave Terry for stealing his suit, became an advisor to the new Batman, feeding him information through the Batsuit while he himself works mission control in the Batcave and its independent network and supercomputer.

More impressive than the story of Terry's conception is that of how he developed himself into a respectable figure for the society of Gotham City. Even before Bruce chose to train him in the ways of martial arts, his punches were strong enough to send people flying, and he only got more impressive once he chose to become the next Batman. With the suit and his training, Terry regularly survives hundreds of tons of pressure bearing down on him and reach speeds of Mach 19. As impressive as he may be compared to his predecessor, however, [=McGinnis=] still falters in key aspects; namely, he lacks the wellspring of intelligence and cunning that Bruce himself possesses. However, this alone does not mean Terry is any less worthy of the mantle of Batman. He has proven himself able to fight off the Justice Lords, dictatorial counterparts of Bruce's companions in the Justice League and even put an end to the threat the Joker and his legacy posed to Gotham once and for all. While he may not be as renowned as the original Batman, Terry is every bit as remarkable in his dedication in his cause to Gotham City and continuing the saga that the original Batman began.

Reaching the end of Terry's rundown, Wiz and Boomstick move on to one Miguel O'Hara, a survivor in the year 2099, when the earth was torn asunder by war between humans and mutants. Even here, in this land of destruction and chaos, there were still those who wanted to survive and see another age of heroes, and the young Miguel was part of this generation. Miguel was a child prodigy, specializing in genetic tinkering, which earned him a position at the megacorporation Alchemax. Miguel was specifically hired to recreate the genetics of Peter Parker himself, the original Spider-Man; however, like many heroes of his time, little remained of Parker beyond the folklore his outings as a superhero had turned into over the decades. Thus, Miguel had to create Peter's genes using his own as the base; when a human test subject died during the procedure, however, Miguel was overcome with guilt and attempted to resign from Alchemax. The corporation's vice president and O'Hara's boss, Tyler Stone, tricked Miguel into using the Rapture drug, binding itself to Miguel's genes and fostering a crippling addiction to Rapture in order to blackmail him and continue his work. To free himself from the drug, Miguel used his pure genetic code from the machine, but the experiment was sabotaged, and the genes stored in the machine, modified with spider DNA, merged with those in Miguel himself, creating the Spider-Man 2099.

Ordinary array of enhanced strength, agility, speed aside, Miguel is an entirely different superhero from the modern-day Spider-Man; having his own takes on Peter Parker's trademark abilities. O'Hara possesses retractable talons at the tips of his hands and feet, which serve as both close-quarters weapons and his own variant of wall crawling. His spider sense is less the precognition of the classic web slinger in favor of a more traditional yet extremely improved set of senses; Miguel can see objects perfectly in the dark and at high speed and his hearing lets him detect objects from miles away. And of course, no Spider-Man would be complete without having their take on web shooting or the trademark arachnid-themed suit; in Miguel's case, the former manifests as a pair of spinnerets in his arms that produce organic webbing stronger than steel, much like real spider silk. The suit itself, however, is a bodysuit with a cape and repurposed Day of the Dead mask; the rest of the suit is made of unstable molecules that allow Miguel to use his talons without tearing it to shreds. However, a chance meeting through time with the original Spider-Man gave him an improvement to his suit, binding his unstable molecules with Kevlar for a further improved defense. The suit is now so durable, in fact, that it can survive a hit from a howitzer round with over 102 tons of force, on top of its additional features of hologram projectors, infrared scanners, and improved flight. Like his opponent, Miguel comes into battle with his own holographic aide, the Lyrate Lifeform Approximation, or Lyla. Lyla helps keep track of Miguel's vitals and surroundings and reacts in a nanosecond, proving to be an invaluable ally in Miguel's outings.

Nothing would seem to get in the way of Miguel's tenure as the Spider-Man of the future, but his senses do come with one key flaw in addition to how it helps serve him: his eyesight in particular is so sensitive, that O'Hara needs specially tinted glasses when outside the suit to shield his eyes from daylight. That said, Miguel has proven himself a worthy inheritor of the Spider-Man title. During his outings in the year 2099, the future Spider-Man has been able to survive shotgun blasts, ripped a 20-ton turret off a military tank, and alongside the Spider-Man of the present, pulled back on a tower antenna assumed to be an even 200 tons. Miguel has even been granted the right to wield Mjölnir, though instead of a weapon, used it as a symbol of his authority after becoming the CEO of Alchemax, turning the wasteland of the future into a utopia, the kind of hero who can do good in the suit as well as outside it.

Intense studying complete, both fighters are prepped, and ready to fight. One advertisement for the Blue Apron cooking service later, and now, it's time for a death battle!

The moon casts a brilliant glow over the misty skies above the future's Gotham City. Terry [=McGinnis=], Batman Beyond, watches over his city in his signature black-and-red suit when Bruce Wayne himself pitches in with a warning for Terry to keep alert; apparently, some disturbances have been present in the current area. Not a second later does a thick strand of webbing fly towards a gargoyle upon the rooftop, the figure responsible swinging by and knocking Terry off his perch. Barely able to correct his footing with the boosters in his boots, Terry finds the perpetrator - Miguel O'Hara, Spider-Man 2099 - traversing the city skyscrapers, forcing the Batman of the future to give chase. Miguel gives a smarmy response to Terry, who seems to be in no joking mood.

'''FIGHT!'''

Rocketing towards him with the boosters in high gear does nothing to throw Miguel off his game, only throwing a web towards a nearby streetlight and swing around, landing the match's first hit by kicking Terry square in the back. The momentum of the kick sends [=McGinnis=] careening towards a skyscraper, but he maintains his footing and rebounds towards the future Spider-Man. A second shot of webbing is caught with ease by Terry; now, it's his turn to whip Miguel around and, after catching him by the ankle, toss him down to a rooftop. The Alchemax CEO bounces off the roof and makes a hasty getaway with another web shot, heading to the same building he knocked Terry into and clinging onto it with his talons. As Terry hurtles a series of Batarangs towards Miguel, the future Spider-Man vaults off the side of the building, ensnaring the Batarangs in his webbing and hurling them right back at Terry. The projectiles slash clean through Terry who drops to a rooftop.

Seeing his foe immobilized for the moment, Miguel clings to another building and contacts Lyla for assistance. Unfortunately for Miguel, all the AI can do to help is hacking into Terry's communications array; the offer is given to Miguel right as Terry recovers and has a straight hook barely intercepted by Miguel's forearm. Miguel decides to press on with the assault, laying into Terry with several acrobatic kicks as he flips and swings away from anything the Batman Beyond tries to throw. Meanwhile, Bruce watches Miguel's fighting pattern; seeing how the new Spider-Man vaults and flips around in the air, nimbly evading Terry's attacks, the classic Batman informs his successor to get Miguel to ground-level. Terry makes good on this advice and hurtles a triple-weight bola at Miguel, ensnaring him long enough for Terry to barrel straight towards him. Miguel struggles to break free, and succeeds a moment too late; Terry plows right into Miguel as the pair leave the building's side.

Kicking Terry with all the strength he can muster only rewards Miguel with the future Batman beating him into a building, waiting until he bounces off to deliver a high kick to knock the future Spider-Man upwards and an axe kick to send him plummeting into a car. Miguel flails helplessly off the destroyed vehicle, but recovers and steadies himself seconds before Terry lands on the opposing end of the street. Back at the Batcave, Bruce is alerted to Lyla attempting to hack the communications; at the same time Miguel is updated on the situation. The two mission controls give their leads the best advice they can; from Bruce, to get in close and finish Miguel off, from Lyla, to use his fangs to penetrate Terry's suit. The heroes charge at each other when, at the last minute, Terry slams a flashbang onto the pavement.

Painful ringing fills Miguel's ears, blurry images all his eyes can register. By the time he shakes some sense back into himself, the fight has already been decided. Terry closes the distance and hammers Miguel with a number of punches that knock the wind out of Miguel, intense groans punctuating every blow. A wide-reaching hook pushes the future Spider-Man back, where a triangle of pulsating orbs glow white on his chest as they emit shrill beeps. A panicked Miguel screams for Lyla's assistance, but the next and last thing he hears is a burst of sound as the Batarangs explode, blowing a hole clean through his torso. Miguel's body slumps to the floor as Batmen original and current remark at the situation, Terry soaring off into the night.

'''K.O.!'''

The fight now over, the hosts waste no time jumping right into the analysis; specifically, staring off with the fact that Bruce's aid could help turn the fight into a two-on-one scenario by exploiting Miguel's eyesight and disabling the holographic Lyla; impressive she may be, the hologram was never built for combat purposes and her hacking skills could pose no match for the security systems of the Batcave's supercomputer, which can hold off attacks from technological geniuses like Brainiac. However, while both combatants had relatively even edges in durability and agility, Terry outclassed Miguel in speed greatly; Miguel may be able to avoid bullets, but Terry outrunning a Mach 19 intercontinental ballistic missile dwarfs that by a wide margin. Terry was also Miguel's superior in strength, as one particular weight Terry is known to have lifted is a boulder at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean; assuming the rock was of the local sedimentary limestone variety, the feat clocks Terry's strength at 192 tons, while Miguel and Peter holding the cable tower gives them an even 100 tons to pull equally. The hosts add that comparing Miguel to Peter is a difficult task as the two have different powersets, but to firmly end the discussion, they scale him to two of Peter's strength feats; carrying an airliner to safety and lifting himself off a massive locomotive-sized heap of rubble, feats that respectively required 58 and 130 tons of force, well beneath Terry's boulder lifting. In addition, Terry is less crafty than Bruce, but is still intelligent in his own right and has had actual time to train with combat experts, unlike Miguel. Lastly, Miguel, unlike Peter, had a vanilla series of super senses and not a spider sense proper, a fact Terry could exploit. Both the future superheroes live up to the legacies of the originals and then some, but Terry had blessing from the first title carrier himself that saw him through to the end.

!!''Batman Beyond vs. Spider-Man 2099'' contains examples of:
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: Between the batarangs, vision enhancing devices, and unassorted tools, the point that Wiz wraps up the list of Terry's gadgets on is his retractable tweezers.
* BloodlessCarnage: Downplayed. Between the severe drops both combatants take and Batarangs cutting Terry's suit, not a drop of blood is spilled, and while Miguel's chest exploding does cause a spray of blood, it's ultimately a much cleaner death than [[Recap/DeathBattleS01E23BatmanVsSpiderMan its predecessor's outcome]].
* BondOneLiner: Terry has a much more nonchalant approach towards taking another person's life based off his exchange of lines with Bruce at the end:
-->'''Terry:''' Aaaaand problem solved.\
'''Bruce:''' I guess that's one way to do it.
* BrokenWinLossStreak: With Miguel's loss, Terry defeating him marks the end of the ''Spider-Man'' franchise's winning streak against ''Batman'' characters; as the series has only gone up against more ''Batman'' characters, it also marks the end of ''Spider-Man'''s winning streak in general. Played with in that the winning streak for mainstream characters ''only'' is otherwise unaffected.
* TheCameo: Batman returns for his [[Recap/DeathBattleS04E03VenomVsBane second]] supporting appearance, helping the future Batman in his fight.
* ContinuityNod: Several of them regarding [[Recap/DeathBattleS01E23BatmanVsSpiderMan the first time these characters threw down]]:
** The micro-description for Bruce Wayne refers to him as "[[ComicBook/AllStarBatmanAndRobinTheBoyWonder The goddamn Batman!]]"
** Terry hurtles a series of Batarangs in the fight, only for Miguel to catch them with his webbing and slingshot them right back at Batman.
** Miguel slingshots himself towards Terry and tries to dropkick him, the way Peter Parker finished Bruce Wayne.
** The killing move is, once again, disabling the loser and delivering a blow to the chest.
** The battle starts high up on the skyscrapers of a city and the fighters gradually work their way towards the ground.
** Bruce analyzes Miguel's fighting patterns and adapts to counter it, much like how he won [[Recap/DeathBattleS02E11CaptainAmericaVsBatman his match with Captain America]].
** Miguel has Lyla try and hack into Terry's communications, much like [[Recap/DeathBattleS02E23SolidSnakeVsSamFisher Otacon did to Anna's comms]]. However, Lyla's effort is less successful in comparison.
* GeneticEngineeringIsTheNewNuke: Next to their status as {{legacy character}}s, this is the chief bond between the two fighters, the products of genetic modifications.
* IAmNotShazam:
** Terry doesn't have the ''actual'' moniker of Batman Beyond, he just has his predecessor's title as Batman, yet Wizard calls "Batman Beyond" the winner of the match.
** Miguel isn't ''called'' Spider-Man 2099; he simply happens to be a Spider-Man who comes from the year 2099.
* LegacyCharacter: The core premise of the episode, the two are almost entirely unrelated to those whom they inherit their titles from, yet follow many of the same tenets and share similar powers.
* MissionControl: The two fighters have their own to help provide them support; Terry has [[RetiredBadass Bruce Wayne himself]], while Miguel has [[BenevolentAI Lyla]].
* OhCrap: Miguel starts panicking when [[WhyAmITicking the explosive Batarangs on his chest start their countdown]].
* PoweredArmor: Both Terry and Miguel have superpowered technologically enhanced suits; Terry in particular has his described as if Batman made an ComicBook/IronMan suit.
* ShoutOut:
** ''Film/BackToTheFuturePartII'' is featured in the opening to describe the episode's premise.
** ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy'' is featured in a cutaway gag itself during the same sequence as the SpaceWhaleAesop below.
* SpaceWhaleAesop: While describing the lack of modern-day information that still exists in Miguel's world, Wiz offers some questionable advice:
-->"Remember, kids, always back up your files. It'll prevent the apocalypse."
* SpaceX: Terry's life in a future Gotham City is poked fun at with "future" adjectives sprinkled into his rundown (going to "future raves," having a "future girlfriend," etc.).
* SpiritualSuccessor: The match is one for [[Recap/DeathBattleS01E23BatmanVsSpiderMan season one's match of Batman vs. Spider-Man]], now featuring their successors from the future.
