* The series finale of ''Series/TwoTwoSeven'' has Lester's widowed father showing up for Brenda's graduation with a new girlfriend. Lester spends most of the episode being quite rude to the woman and even trying to find ways to prevent the two from sleeping together. He comes around after his father assures him that he hasn't forgotten his wife, he simply doesn't want to spend his remaining years alone.
* ''Series/SeventhHeaven'': An older version with Annie when her father Charles begins dating again after the death of her mother. The woman whom Charles dates (and eventually remarries to), Ginger, treats Annie kindly. Annie, on the hand, treats Ginger awfully because the close proximity between her mother's death and the beginning of Ginger's relationship with Charles. This doesn't really improve much over the next couple of seasons; one instance has Annie knocking her head into a wall when she learns of her father and Ginger's engagement. Annie and Ginger's relationship gets slightly better when Charles is diagnosed with Alzheimer's but even after the latter's death, Annie makes it clear to her husband that she likes the idea that her father and her mother are now back together in Heaven.
* ''Series/AmberBrown2022'':
** Amber's mom is dating again after her divorce from her dad, which Amber is not happy with (she wants them back together). She grows even more unhappy on learning they're engaged as well, but slowly accepts it.
** Then she gets this again when her dad reconnects to a woman he knew years before. She tries to stop them dating through subtle means.
* ''Aquila'': One kid freaks out about their mother dating a new man, and spies on him, convinced he's up to something. Eventually he gets used to it.
* ''Series/ArrestedDevelopment'' played with this trope whenever Michael got a new love interest. He always worried about what his son thought of his dating, and usually ended up sabotaging the relationship because of that. Of course, while George Michael would usually be fine with it, the two times he didn't consult him were the two times he would in fact have minded. One, when Michael started dating the teacher he had a crush on, after misinterpreting George Michael's opinion of her. And two, with Jesse, because she's psycho.
* ''Series/{{Arrow}}''
** In the pilot, Oliver Queen has returned from witnessing his father's death and five years marooned on an island hellhole to find his mother Moira is now involved with Walter Steele, a former business partner of Robert Queen--the warmth with which Oliver greets his family is in noticeable contrast to the stoic response to him. [[spoiler:Although this appears to foreshadow a reveal that Steele is a villain, he turns out to be an HonestCorporateExecutive and Oliver eventually warms up to him.]]
** Oliver's son William warms up to Felicity pretty quickly, especially after she starts helping him with his math homework, given that math has never been Oliver's strong suit. Eventually, after Oliver and Felicity get married, William stops being afraid of becoming an orphan in case Oliver is killed while out as the Green Arrow, since now he has a stepmom.
* ''Series/AvocadoToast'': Elle is quite upset to learn that her mom is leaving her dad and dating a much younger man. The two have a temporary falling out over it.
* ''Series/TheBabySittersClub2020'': In this reimagining, Kristy is even more antagonistic towards her mother's fiancé Watson than in the books. She’s reluctant to bond with him or his kids. She wants her mom to be happy; she just wants her and her brothers to be enough for her. Over the course of the series, she slowly warms up to him.
* ''Series/{{Bones}}'': Happens often with Booth's son Parker.
** Parker doesn't like his mother's current boyfriend, who appears to be a decent guy. Of course, Booth doesn't like said boyfriend either, and Parker even mimics his dad's sarcastic nickname for mom's boyfriend.
** In "[[Recap/BonesS6E8TheTwistedBonesInTheMeltedTruck The Twisted Bones In The Melted Truck]]", Booth's plot involves him trying to introduce his new girlfriend Hannah to Parker. Parker doesn't like him having a new girlfriend at all and Hannah is terrified at the prospect of him not liking her since she's not good with kids. By the end of the episode, they're shown to get along fine, much to Booth's relief and Brennan's jealousy.
** Inverted with Bones, his father's work partner and potential LoveInterest, whom Parker seems to like. But then, Parker idolizes his dad and Bones has a pool she lets him come over and swim in (Parker at one point suggests his dad should marry just for this reason, being largely unaware of their {{UST}}). In later seasons, Brennan and Booth become the OfficialCouple and have a baby, and Parker treats Bones just like a regular mom and seems happy when he spends time with them. One episode played with it by making it seem that Parker was unhappy that not only were Booth and Bones living together, but having a daughter. Parker was lying to both of them about where he's spending his afternoons, breaking the new radio-controlled car Booth got for him, and destroying pictures of Bones. In the end, it turned out that their relentless worrying ruined his surprise. He'd spent his afternoons making a mobile out of all their family photos and motorized it using the parts from the car so that his new little sister would know her family (and especially her big brother).
* ''Series/TheBradyBunch'': This is the case of Parent With New Paramour taken to the ideal conclusion, with a relative minimum of tension between the parents and stepchildren, and no tension worse than normal SiblingRivalry between the step-siblings. After Season 1, the show rarely mentioned the fact that Mike wasn't the girls' birth father or that Carol wasn't the boys' birth mother again.
* ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'':
** Buffy had her mother dating [[Recap/BuffyTheVampireSlayerS2E11Ted Ted]], a gentleman whose only flaw was being a psychotically domineering killer robot. Even before she knew this, Buffy responds to a suggestion of her mother getting married again by threatening to kill herself.
** There's Giles, who had a somewhat tentative but eventually friendly and entirely mature and responsible platonic friendship with Joyce. You know, except for that one time they ate the band candy, reverted to the mental age of 16 and had sex on top of a police car. Twice. Something of a SubvertedTrope there, since Buffy canonically thinks of Giles as a father, but reacted with horror when she found out about the tryst - though that might have been because she got [[{{Squick}} the gory details]] [[PsychicPowers directly from Joyce's brain]], and the memory was apparently a very pleasant one. Also ''{{Dracula}}'', though that lasted even less time, and was offscreen. She seemed happy after when Joyce went out with a nice guy in season five, Joyce's hilariously squicky jokes notwithstanding. Of course, this being a Creator/JossWhedon show, [[spoiler:Joyce died the next day.]]
* ''Series/BurnNotice'': Michael often lets his clients stay at his mother's house. He is hilariously ''horrified'', in one episode, when he finds out she slept with one of them.
* ''Series/CallTheMidwife'': Timmy actively ships his dad with [[spoiler: Sister Bernadette, going so far as to propose on his dad's behalf]]. [[ParentalSexualitySquick He still doesn't want to see them kissing, though!]]
* ''California Dreams'': In this '90s teen show, TheDitz Tiffany has been living with her dad since her mom walked out on them years before the time of the show. When Dad starts dating again, Tiffany is fine with it at first...until he starts blowing off his plans with her to be with the new girlfriend. She feels left out and unwanted, and makes a fool of herself trying to prove that the girlfriend isn't on the level (she's actually quite a nice person). The episode ends with something of a BrokenAesop, because while Tiffany apologizes for being insecure and acting like a bit of a bratty teenager, her father never apologizes for ditching her or hurting her feelings.
* ''Series/{{Californication}}'': Both Karen and Hank date lots of people, and Karen especially gets serious with them. Their daughter Becca has to deal with them and she mostly has no problems with them when the respective relationship is steady, but she would very much like if her parents were back together. Hank and Karen are kind of that constant on-again-off-again couple.
* ''Series/{{Castle|2009}}'': Alexis, who is used to basically being the mature one in the household, is personally fine with her father hooking up with Beckett.
* Played with in ''Series/{{Coroner}}''. Jenny's son Ross doesn't have an issue with Liam as a person - in fact, they got along well with Liam teaching Ross how to build a bridge - but it is more of the fact that his mother is hooking up with someone just months after Ross's father suddenly died.
* ''Series/TheCrowdedRoom'': Danny wasn't too pleased when his mom had started dating Marlin years after his dad left. After they married, he and Marlin got only quite poorly. It turns out to be because Marlin was molesting Adam, his twin brother (or rather, Danny himself).
* ''Series/{{Dexter}}'': Astor and Cody are very fond of Dexter, their mom's boyfriend, and do ''not'' like it when Rita dumps Dexter. They're delighted when she decides to take him back.
* ''Series/{{Dynasty|1981}}'': Much of the first season focused on this, as the plot is kickstarted when the former SexySecretary of the male lead becomes his second wife as well as the female lead, whom his son is indifferent towards and his daughter '''really'' dislikes. And then the ex-wife shows up in the second season...
** It's no different in the [[Series/Dynasty2017 reboot series]] with the daughter getting into a rivalry with her stepmother who, unlike the original, is not above having physical catfights with her. The son is mostly okay with the situation, though.
* ''Series/EverybodyLovesRaymond'': In one episode, Debra's mom, who recently divorced her dad, reveals that her dad plans to bring a date to Thanksgiving dinner. Her mom is okay with it, although Debra is upset, even though Ray points out that as long as her mother is happy, she should be happy. Everyone assumes that her dad's date will be a much younger woman, but it is actually a much older woman.
* ''Series/{{Everwood}}'':
** Dr. Andy Brown is a widower; the death of his wife and the family dealing with their grief kicked off the series. His young daughter Delia doesn't like when he dates Linda Abbott, and his son Ephram disapproves also, but mainly because she's ill and he's afraid that Delia will become attached and they will have to go through it yet again. At the end of the series, [[spoiler: Andy gets together with his friendly neighbour Nina. Both Ephram and Delia have always liked her, so they will probably be okay with it.]]
** When divorced Nina dated Jake, another newcomer and a young handsome doctor, her son Sam seemed to like him.
** Edna, a CoolOldLady married Irving Harper, who was in turn a CoolOldGuy. It was a wonderful case of DecemberDecemberRomance and a HappilyMarried couple. In a flashback, the audience finds out that Edna's son Harold was against the marriage, which hurt Edna's feelings. Irving's children were fairly estranged from him anyway, but were no fans either.
* ''Series/FreaksAndGeeks'': Has Bill's mom, [[Series/BabylonFive Susan Ivanova]] dating his gym coach, [[Franchise/BackToTheFuture Biff Tannen]]. Not only is this a to-the-letter case of example three, but Bill uses the opportunity to slack off in gym class and mouth of to the coach, placing said coach in a very difficult situation.
* ''Series/GilmoreGirls'': Shows up more than once, perhaps unsurprisingly what with ''Gilmore Girls'' being a show about a single mom and her teenage daughter. Rory usually gets along well with Lorelai's boyfriends, and indeed gets upset at least once about her mother not properly breaking up with them.
* ''Series/{{Glee}}'': Has Kurt's father Burt finding love with Finn's mother Carole. While they're one big happy family now, at the beginning both boys had issues with the relationship. Finn was afraid that Burt would try to replace his father, who died in Iraq when Finn was a baby, while Kurt jealously (and erroneously) believed that his father would rather have Finn as his son.
* ''Literature/GossipGirl'':
** Blair is excited to meet her mother's new boyfriend Cyrus, believing him to be a dashing, charming, worldly man. He turns out to be tiny, nearly bald and, well, played by Creator/WallaceShawn. She does learn to at least respect him by the end of the episode, and by the time he becomes her stepfather, they have formed a pretty close relationship.
--->'''Blair:''' I was expecting Creator/CaryGrant and I got Creator/DannyDeVito!
** Chuck and Lily may also count. Since Chuck's mother died when he was born it's never a case of him feeling like she's replacing his birth mother. They get along great at first, then he hates her for a while after his father dies, but then agrees to let her adopt him. She's practically a better mother to him now than she is to her biological children.
* In ''Series/{{Hawkeye|2021}}'', Kate Bishop is pretty distrustful of Jacques Duquesne, not only for him being his mother's new boyfriend, but also for his involvement with black market dealings and possible involvement with the Tracksuit Mafia, despite him presenting himself as a person who tries his best to be friendly with Kate. [[spoiler:In the end, it turns out he is as friendly as he appears to be, with the danger coming actually from Kate's mother's shady dealings with the Kingpin, complete with him taking the fall for Armand Duquesne's murder.]]
* ''Series/{{iCarly}}'': Mrs. Benson started dating the doorman Lewbert in one episode. They end up [[ComedicSociopathy throwing Freddie down the stairs]] so they can break the FlorenceNightingaleEffect between his mom and Lewbert.
* ''Series/KnotsLanding'':
** When Karen starts dating Mack in Season Four, Diana dislikes him intensely to begin with but she eventually grows to like him. On the other hand, her younger brothers Eric and Michael liked Mack right from the start, though it did take Eric some time to get used to no longer being the man of the house after Karen and Mack married and Mack moved in with them in "A New Family".
** In Season Eleven, Bobby and Betsy hate Valene's new boyfriend and eventual husband Danny. It turns out that they are much more perceptive than she is.
* ''Series/MadMen'': Gives us something of a combination of an InvertedTrope and Type 1: Don Draper invites his secretary Megan Calvet on a vacation to California with him and his kids specifically because she handled them so well on a visit to the office. It's only on the trip that he sleeps with her and ''then'' proposes after she's established a firm rapport with Sally and Bobby. When he announces his decision to marry her, they are actually kind of happy it happened.
* ''Series/{{Manifest}}'': Olive is shown in flashbacks to be reluctant to warm up to Danny at first, but in the present, when told to call her father, she calls him instead of her actual father, and later directly tells her mother "I love Dad, but Danny's my father too."
* ''Series/MiamiVice'': Caroline's second husband, Bob Ballard, is a type 2 or 3. Billy thinks he's boring and overly strict and treats him like a baby.
* ''Series/MightyMorphinPowerRangers'': Season 3 had an episode with Kimberly fretting about her mother's new boyfriend, a french artist (JustifiedTrope in that the artist wished for them to move to France with him, putting Kimberly's Ranger career to an end).
* ''Series/{{Misfits}}'': Nathan and his mum's live-in boyfriend Jeremy do ''not'' get on - it seems to be mostly Nathan's fault though, and apparently he has a history of trying to ruin his mum's relationships (he even falsely accused one of her previous boyfriends of sexually assaulting him). He verbally abuses Jeremy a lot, even punching him for no good reason at one point and breaking the guy's nose. Nathan's mum gets sick of the situation and actually kicks her son out of the house, making him homeless. They do reconcile in the end though, and Nathan accepts that he was wrong to stand in the way of his mum's happiness and he moves out of the house permanently.
* ''Series/MyMumYourDad'': Reality show based on playing this trope straight. Middle-aged parents are watched by their [[KidsPlayMatchmaker teenage children]] as they try to find love once more. At the end, the kids give their blessing - or not - for the relationship to continue.
* ''Series/TheOfficeUS'': In the episode "The Lover", Pam returns from her honeymoon to learn that her boss Michael has been sleeping with her divorced mother since the wedding. She freaks out and behaves so much like an angry child dissatisfied with a new stepfather that she makes Michael look uncharacteristically reasonable by comparison. She even says at one point, "[[YoureNotMyFather You'll never be my father]]!"
* ''Series/PushingDaisies'': Has a tweaked example: Ned's father trots him off to boarding school and ignores him in favor of his new wife and kids.
* Subverted in the episode "Adolessons" from ''Series/RavensHome''. Chelsea's son Levi is proud that his mother's dating again.
* ''Series/{{Revolution}}'': Ben with Maggie. Ben's daughter Charlie had a difficult time accepting it in the [[Recap/RevolutionS1E1Pilot pilot]]. However, Charlie came to accept her to the point that [[spoiler: she was quite upset with Maggie's death in "[[Recap/RevolutionS1E4ThePlagueDogs The Plague Dogs]]"]].
* ''Series/TheRising'': Katie isn't happy, it turns out, by how quickly her dad got remarried after her mom's death, acting hostile toward them as a result at times.
* ''Series/RoyalPains'': Hank Lawson was none too pleased when his dad showed up, and was even ''less'' pleased when he took up with one of his best clients, "New Parts" Newburg.
* ''Series/TheSarahJaneAdventures'': In "[[Recap/TheSarahJaneAdventuresS3E5E6TheWeddingOfSarahJaneSmith The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith]]", the title character's adopted son Luke, despite initial nervousness (and spying on his mother before finding out that she was disappearing to go on dates), gets along well with her new boyfriend/fiance and becomes the strongest supporter of her new relationship. He even brushes off his friends' valid concerns about the man's empty house with a warning not to spoil his mum's big day. [[spoiler:Of course, the relationship doesn't work out; the man had died weeks ago (thus the empty house), and the Trickster had revived him to serve as a trap for Sarah Jane. When he finds out, he chooses to die as he should have.]]
* ''Series/SomeGirls'': The main reason Viva can't stand her father Rob's new girlfriend and eventual wife Anna is that Anna is also Viva's sadistic gym teacher and football coach. (Viva also first discovered the relationship when she walked in to find Anna riding Rob.)
* ''Series/TheSpencerSisters'': Darby's dad was killed years ago, with her being less than enthused about her mom's new boyfriend when he's introduced. She gets suspicious of him being a con artist Gold Digger who only wants her mom's money, looking into his past.
* ''Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine'':
** Ben Sisko's son Jake actively encourages his widower father to date, wanting him to find someone special, and is the one to set Ben up with his eventual wife Kasidy Yates. While Jake doesn't think of Kasidy as his mother, he's fond of her.
** Nog's mother Prinadora walked out on him and his father Rom when he was a child, so he's all too happy when his father finds love with, and eventually marries, Leeta. He even refers to Leeta as "Moogie" (the Ferengi equivalent of "Mom") when he's congratulating them on the marriage.
* ''Series/TheSuiteLifeOfZackAndCody'' has this as both a RunningGag and an occasional cause of TearJerker moments. London Tipton's father is constantly marrying new women (with his third wife being London's biological mother), and all of them end up divorcing him fairly quickly. The one time we see a stepmother in person she does make an effort to make a bond with London, who at first wants none of it because she believes that her new stepmother will be gone faster than she can blink. London actually has a ''charm bracelet'' that lets her count how many step-mothers she's had.
* ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'': When Dean settles down with Lisa for a year, he gets along great with her 11-year-old son Ben. Ben met Dean for the first time when he was 8 years old, and Dean wondered if Ben was actually his son since they [[SharedFamilyQuirks had similar behavioral patterns]] (which was neither confirmed nor denied).
* ''Series/SweetMagnolias'':
** Noreen is trying to make a place with Bill's children. While she develops an IntergenerationalFriendship with Kyle and Katie is easy to please, she struggles to get along with Ty who is in a strained relationship on Bill.
** Also on the flip side, Ty initially disapproved of his mother dating Cal. Not because he disliked Cal as a person but because he was finally getting used to the gossip surrounding his father cheating and now he would have to deal with more gossip about his coach dating his mother.
* ''Series/TheTwilightZone1985'': In "Father & Son Game", Michael Stephens hates his father Darius' wife of six years Anita. This is mostly because she is Darius' strongest supporter and her efforts are preventing him from having Darius declared dead after his [[BrainUploading consciousness is transferred]] to a {{Cyborg}} body.
* ''Series/VeronicaMars'': Twice with Veronica's father Keith Mars. The first is an attempted relationship with her guidance councelor, but he decides to call it off because Veronica is still coping with the [[MissingMom loss of her mother after she abandoned them both]]. The second is with her best friend Wallace's mother, which lasts quite a bit longer. This one just weirds Veronica out for a while but she later warms to the idea when she sees how they're happy together.
* ''Series/{{Victorious}}'': In a tie-in video, Jade makes disparaging comments about her Dad's new girlfriend and her "yappy dog".
* ''Series/YouMeHer'': Izzy is at first not at all enthused when her dad starts seeing Lala, and even less after they get engaged. Slowly she comes around though.
