* The game starts out rather cute and adorable. Until Apple Bloom decides to follow the strange pony that just wandered into that corner. You find a strange town, discover a dark secret, and are then hunted down by the remains of the ponies you just met.
* The [[SarcasmMode wonderful]] MoodWhiplash when you look into the fireplace.
* After you find Ruby's skeleton in the fireplace and leave the house, the cheerful town instantly turns into desolate ruins, and the seemingly friendly ponies reveal their true forms as skeletal zombies. And after you find out what they did to Ruby, they have no intention of letting you leave Sunny Town.
-->'''Grey Hoof''': There was no other way. She was going to spoil the party.\
'''Three Leaf''': The curse had befallen her this very night. She had the mark! She had to go!\
'''Gladstone''': Please...stay with us. We will never let the same happen to you.\
'''Roneo''': All we want is friendship. Don't leave, the others won't like it.
* The sight of Starlet induces a brief but heart-wrenching sense of dread because of how fast she is and makes one wonder how many victims she had caught and killed with little effort on her part.
* If you get caught by any of the zombie ponies, you turn into one of them as the screen flashes black and red.
-->Don't worry, you will never become like her. We will protect you.\
''(with each letter appearing one at a time)'' F O R E V E R.
* The pseudo-sequel Hoofball is mostly just adorable, but does have one easter egg that can be sort of unnerving if you aren't expecting it. Walking through the forest on the screen with Fluttershy in it will transfer the Cutie Mark Crusaders to a dark, purple area with eerily calm music in the background. Enough exploration will reveal a bunny rabbit... which transforms into a glitched pony sprite that spits garbled gibberish at you... which transforms into many glitched ponies that "corrupt" the room constantly until you find a way out.
