You play as a single ant trying to build a colony and the odds are stacked against you. The world is covered with hazards like puddles, large bugs, enemy ants, human inventions, and most importantly, spiders.
----
* The spider is probably the most notoriously scary thing in the game, especially if this disgusting eight-legged predator managed to catch you. You are not only given a frightfully detailed description of your death ("As the spider's venom courses through your veins, you feel like you have been set on fire,"), but then are shown a lovely accompanying head-on view of the spider, gnashing its fangs and making low chewing noises.
** Just be thankful though that despite looking like a Wolf Spider on the playing field, the face you see when you die is really that of a Jumping Spider. As a Google Images search will efficiently tell you, the face of a Wolf is a [[NightmareFace lot freakier]] than that of a Jumper.
* Once you reach the house, you encounter a new hazard: the electrical socket. Walk into it and you're treated to a brief animation of your ant writhing in agony as it's electrocuted.
* The human homeowner can be quite deadly in scary ways. If he's walking around the yard, there's a minor risk of being trod underfoot and squished instantly. If he starts mowing the lawn, it is possible to have the lawnmower catch you up and chop your poor ant into bits between its blades. If he spots you in the house, there's a chance that he will break out the pesticide spray, which will result in your ant convulsing and a death message elaborating how the toxins in the pesticide cause some agony as your ant writhes until it dies.
* Ironically, the very goal of the Full Game is this. Imagine if an ant colony got so big that it could spread all over your backyard, and then overrun your house due to all the related colonies banding together into a single massive supercolony. Not too farfetched a nightmare scenario, considering the Argentinian Ants are known for this kind of behavior, amongst other similar invasive species.
* Some of the fanfares in the PC versions can be unnerving, especially the ones that play when the yellow ant dies or when you get some bad news. With the right soundcard, they could sound downright nightmarish.
