''Steel Panther'' is a AffectionateParody of HairMetal, claiming to have failed to gain mainstream success during their formation in 1988. Their look is an obvious throwback to the 80's hair band era, and the music they produce is a spoof of all that was 80's rock music from Music/DefLeppard ballads to Music/GunsNRoses hard rock. Taken up to 11. Unsurprisingly this leads to tracklists filled to the brim with sex, drugs, self deprecation and Asian hookers.

The group are also notable for their live performances. Frequently calling known celebs on stage to join them and proceeding to mock or try to sleep with them. Live shows often feature cover versions of classic rock songs just for the hell of it too. The persona's of each member carries over into an entertaining live experience filled to the brim with pretend infighting, stories of sexual exploits, overly elaborate solos and of course a healthy slice of FauxYay. It also doesn't hurt a bit that they're all actually talented musicians.

First gaining success in early 2000, the quartet played in the Sunset Strip, originally under the name "Metal Skool". The bands lineup consists of vocalist Ralph Saenz (''Michael Starr''), drummer Darren Leader (''Stix Zadinia'') and guitarist Russ Parrish (''Satchel''). The bassist was Travis Haley (''Lexxi Foxxx'') for most of the bands life. Lexxi sat out a tour in 2018 and some dates on subsequent tours, before leaving the band for good in 2021 for undisclosed reasons. Various bassists filled in before Joe "Spyder" Lester, the band's tour manager who had filled in for Lexxi before, was named the new permanent bassist.

----
!!Steel Panthropes:
* AbsurdlyYouthfulMother: Bobbie Brown (Lexxi's Mom) is only 15 years older than Travis Haley (Lexxi). Of course, given the stories about Lexxi's Mom's prowess, this is ''possible''.
* AccidentalHero: "Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World" - after finding out {{Satan}} is ending the world tomorrow, the band decide to throw the best party ever before everyone dies. It's so epic Satan himself decides to attend and has such a good time changes his mind about ending the world.
-->'''Michael:''' "Satan! It's the fucking end of the world dude, what are you doing here?"
-->'''Satan:''' "Ah fuck it!"
-->'''Stix:''' "Are you telling us we just saved the fucking world?"
-->'''Satan:''' "Yeah dude, does that float your fucking boat?"
-->'''Michael:''' "That's right, the greatest band ever just saved the fucking world!"
* AerosolFlamethrower: Seen in "Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World" with Lexxi Foxxx using his iconic hairspray to make one. Typically he's gazing entranced at how pretty the flames are.
* AffectionateParody: The members of the band are all confessed and avowed fans of the genre and bands they lampoon. All of them started in HairMetal tribute bands.
* AlterEgoActing: The band assumes stage names and personae based on tropes and trends popular during the heyday of [[TheEighties 80's]] HairMetal.
* AmbiguouslyGay:
** Lexxi's persona, who frequently makes advances towards Satchel during performances. Satchel usually slowly walks away while Lexxi plays it off. Could also be bisexual, since he's equally likely to be cozying up to one of the ladies in the videos.
** Satchel has claimed in interviews to have had sex with both Michael Starr and Lexxi Foxx (albeit he mistook Lexxi for a girl at the time). Stix appears to be the only dedicated heterosexual in the band.
* AntiLoveSong: "If You Really Really Love Me", in which Michael Starr demands that his girl show her love by overlooking his many, ''many'' flaws such as laziness, rampant infidelity, spending her money on himself rather than important stuff like the rent, and insulting her family members. All that, and he can't even bring himself to say "I love you" back, only being able to muster that he's "really really fond" of her. The only positive trait one can glean from the song is that he's "[[BiggerIsBetterInBed hung like a horse]]".
* ApocalypseAnarchy: In "Party Like Tomorrow is the End of the World", [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin the world is ending, so Steel Panther throw a huge party]] which ends up being a massive orgy full of sex, drugs, and rock & roll. The lyrics encourage the listener to have unprotected sex, go on a crime spree, and engage in potentially deadly stunts; after all, you won't have to face the consequences of these actions tomorrow. {{Subverted}} in the video, as the party ends up being so awesome that {{Satan}} himself changes his mind about ending the world after having that much fun.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: The "strikes" in "Ten Strikes You're Out" include looking at Michael's iPhone without his consent, cheating on him, giving his dog VD, and the very last straw: drinking his last beer.
* AsianHookerStereotype: "Asian Hooker", identifying a geisha as a prostitute.
* BestialityIsDepraved: One of the titular strikes of "Ten Strikes You're Out". Proving even an amoral sex fiend like Michael Starr [[EveryoneHasStandards can be weirded out]]
->Strike three, you gave my dog VD
->How'd you fucking go give a dog VD?
->That's just beyond me
* BrainlessBeauty:
** Musician example: Lexxi.
** Song example: "You're Beautiful When You Don't Talk".
* TheBigGuy: Stix is the only one of the guys who isn't rail thin and is said to be the physically toughest in the band.
* {{Bowdlerization}}: One would think a band as raunchy as Steel Panther wouldn't take kindly to this, but some lyrics in "Community Property" are changed in the video to make them (slightly) less explicit. For instance, both "cock" and "dick" are changed to "dong".
* ButtMonkey: Lexxi. Michael and Satchel banter with one another back and forth, but everyone picks on Lexxi and he frequently winds up the butt of jokes in videos.
-->'''Satchel:''' "On the bass guitar, please make some fuckin' noise for a dude who is pretty fuckin' stupid--but let me tell you something; whenever there's not any girls backstage, it's fun to jack off in his hair when he falls asleep. Make some noise for [=LEXXI FOXX=]!"
-->'''Michael:''' "Let's get something clear: Lexxi is truly fuckin' retarded. Make no mistake."
* TheCameo: Tons in the video for "Party Like Tomorrow is the End of the World". According to Michael (on "Talk is Jericho"), none of the people who appear in the video were paid. They (and director Rob Riggle) just put the word out that "Steel Panther is throwing a party" at a certain address, and people just showed up.
** Some songs also feature vocal cameos, such as [[Music/{{Slipknot}} Corey Taylor]] in "Death To All But Metal", [[Music/{{TheDarkness}} Justin Hawkins]] in "Party All Day", and [[Music/{{Nickelback}} Chad Kroeger]] in "[[PlayingAgainstType It Won't Suck Itself]]".
** Creator/SarahSilverman is the principal in the "Death to All But Metal" video.
* CompanionCube: Lexxi's mirror.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Though still full of the usual Steel Panther ridiculousness, ''Heavy Metal Rules'' is much heavier and angrier than their usual fare.
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: "Hell's On Fire".
* TheDevil: Appears in the video for "Party Like Tomorrow is the End of the World".
* TheDitz: As far as their stage personas go, none of the guys are very sharp. But Lexxi is easily the dumbest one in the band.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: All the members play up this aspect of the hair metal era. Lexxi Foxxx takes it a bit further; during concerts, he'll spend a ''lot'' of time touching up his makeup.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The band's premise used to be that they were an 80's band who missed their chance and were making up for it now. They used to joke about how old they were (supposedly in their 60's). This has been left out of their more recent appearances and the band simply exists as they are with no real story. The just are what they are and embrace it.
* EightiesHair
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: "Party All Day, Fuck All Night" and countless others.
* FauxYay: The live shows and videos all have large doses of this.
* GoldDigger: The song "Gold Digging Whore" is about one of these.
* HairMetal: A parody band that takes the sex, drugs and rock and roll aspects of hair metal up to eleven.
* HandsomeLech: Well, they think they are, anyway.
* HeavyMetal
* {{Homage}}: Strangely not only of the music they grew up with but also the music they were ''involved'' with. Making it partially an InternalHomage.
* HotForTeacher: The teacher in the "Death To All" video certainly dresses to please and that's ''before'' she throws off the glasses and rips open her top.
* HypocriticalHumour: In Steel Panther's [[{{Mockumentary}} Behind the Music special]], Matt Sorum of Guns N Roses makes a comment about how ridiculous it is for a band to take twenty years to release a record and asks "Who would do such a thing?"
* IAmGreatSong: "The Burden of Being Wonderful."
* ImAManICantHelpIt: "Community Property"
--> My ''heart'' belongs to you.
--> But my ''cock'' is community property.
* IntercourseWithYou: It would be easier to list the songs which don't fit. Such a list might consist entirely of "The Burden of Being Wonderful". It's also about the only clean song.
* ItsSnowingCocaine: "Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World" - the amount of drugs shown is ludicrous, there is so much coke that someone literally ends up with their face covered in coke in one scene.
* TheLancer: Satchel is about the only one who gets the best of everyone.
* LanternJawOfJustice: Though not heroic, Satchel sure has one hell of a distinctive jawline.
* TheLeader: Michael Starr, the band's lead singer.
* LongRunnerLineup: The original lineup ran from 2000-2021 until Lexxi Foxx left the band.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: In theory any of the members, and they all have a female following; however Lexxi seems to have the biggest one.
* MetalScream: A couple of times per verse/chorus.
* MisogynySong: "That's What Girls Are For" tells the story of a man who learned how to treat women from his late father, who pretty much drilled into his head that women were put on this earth to [[StayInTheKitchen do housework and have sex with you]]. The DeliberateValuesDissonance of the song is lampshaded with the protagonist saying he's "stuck in 1955".
* {{Mockumentary}}: Steel Panther has its own [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL6wZkiK9JA VH1 Behind the Music]] special, complete with fictional backstory.
* MythologyGag: The party thrown in the video for "Party Like Tomorrow is the End of the World" is a lot like the one described in "Tomorrow Night". It's packed with naked chicks, drugs, random celebs (though none of the ones mentioned in "Tomorrow Night"). The couch even winds up on fire in the front yard.
* NobodyLovesTheBassist: Mostly averted, but after Lexxi departed Satchel had [[https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/steel-panthers-satchel-we-didnt-want-lexxi-foxx-to-quit-the-band/ this]] to say:
-->"We ''did'' put the word out for bass players, and we've already gotten a lot of submissions. And we've gotten some really great ones as well. No musicians yet. We don't really want a musician, though; we want a [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg bass player]]. So…"
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed:
** A woman looking very much like Rihanna appears whipping one of the girls by the pool in the "Party Like Tomorrow is the End of the World" video. (Rhianna had a hit with a song called "S&M".)
** "Jessica Biel" in the "Glory Hole" video.
* NoodleIncident:
** Matt Sorum of Guns N Roses claims Steel Panther had sex with his mom. How this happened, even he's not sure, considering she never went to any of their shows.
** Several of the band's "war stories" which they tell in interviews or during shows.
* OnlyOneName: Satchel
* OnlySaneMan: Styx is often this in their videos and stage skits.
* OverlyNarrowSuperlative: According to Michael, Lexxi Foxxx was voted the Sexiest Man on the Sunset Strip for two consecutive ''weeks''. In ''1987''. When he was only ''35 years old''.
* APartyAlsoKnownAsAnOrgy: "Party Like Tomorrow is the End of the World", "Tomorrow Night"
* PermaStubble: Satchel
* PizzaBoySpecialDelivery: Michael stumbles upon the "Gangbang at the Old Folks' Home" while delivering pizzas to the home.
* PowerBallad:
** "Community Property" ticks all the boxes for this song genre then subverts it as the singer goes into detail about how he isn't faithful when he's away.
** "Just Like Tiger Woods"
** "Weenie Ride"
* PsychicPowers: The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPWGo7qkzWA&feature=related "ESPN"]] that Lexxi believes he shares with Satchel (go to 8:02).
* PunnyName:
** Stix Zadinia - sticks it in ya.
** Apparently he has a father "Pops Zadinia" and a little brother "Squirtz Zadinia", according to the band's appearance on Wrestling/ChrisJericho's podcast.
* ReallyGetsAround:
** Lexxi's mom, according to the [=DVD=] accompanying the album ''Songs From Lexxi's Mom's Garage'' and "Walk of Shame". Everyone in the band except Lexxi has been in her "Garage". And then Michael points out that Lexxi came out of there...
** "Walk of Shame" tackles the subject.
** The singer of "Community Property"
** "Poontang Boomerang" discusses some possible side-effects of this.
** "Always Gonna be a Ho"
* RefugeInAudacity: The band is so ''ludicrously'' over the top in so many areas (lyrics, stage show, videos, personas, etc.), they get away with things that would be considered offensive in any other context.
* RippedFromTheHeadlines: "Just Like Tiger Woods".
* RussianRoulette: Styx winds up playing a drunken round of this with Creator/CarrotTop in the video for "All I Wanna Do (Is Fuck Myself Tonight)". The scene is clearly an homage to ''Film/TheDeerHunter''.
* SelfDeprecation: Considering all the members were either in an actual glam rock band or hair metal tribute band, everything they do can be considered self parody. Michael Starr frequently takes a moment ''during'' a song to mock himself for laughs. During ''Death To All But Metal'', Starr lampshades the rhyming style of the track:
--> Why do all my lyrics sound like Creator/DrSeuss?!
* SexDrugsAndRockAndRoll: The band parodies an era and genre of music associated with this mindset.
* ShoutOut: During live performances, Steel Panther regularly does covers of songs from famous 1980s HairMetal bands such as Music/VanHalen, Music/DefLeppard, Music/BonJovi, and more. They no longer do so many covers since they have enough of their own songs now that fans want to see them perform, but they still slip an occasional one in.
* SmallNameBigEgo:
** A lot of their early videos and the "war stories" they tell about the "good old days in the 80's" which, of course, never happened.
** The music video for "The Burden of Being Wonderful" tells the story of a man who is kind of a loser, but he's a complete narcissist who considers himself the equal of the guys in Steel Panther.
* SpellingSong: The title of "Gold-Digging Whore" is chanted letter-by-letter. The E, which doesn't really fit in with the rhythm, is delivered as an afterthought.
* SoBeautifulItsACurse: "The Burden of Being Wonderful"
* SubvertedRhymeEveryOccasion: "Gold-Digging Whore" again, due to the band's lack of NWordPrivileges.
--> She's a gold-digger, she's a gold-digger
--> Fucking all the white guys and all the Persians
* TakeThat: "Death To All But Metal" spends the entire song insulting popular mainstream music and its artists. And of course MTV and the record companies.
* TheReliableOne: Satchel, who not only books all the bands' plane tickets, but claims to write all the songs and teaches Lexxi to use more than one string on his bass.
* TitleOnlyChorus: ''Death To All But Metal'' and ''Supersonic Sex Machine.''
* WrongSideOfTheTracks: Parodied with "Wrong Side of the Tracks (Out in Beverly Hills)". The singer has a mansion the size of a city block, lavish statues, and his name on the side of a plane. But he's considered on the "wrong side of the tracks" because his Trophy Wife threw away his Dokken [=CDs=], he can't figure out how to set up Bluetooth to his mansion, and he can't afford a hanger for his plane yet.
* XtremeKoolLetterz:
** Lexxi Foxxx is an obvious parody.
** The band's old name, Metal Skool.
