[=HammerFall=] is a [[PowerMetal power]] and [[HeavyMetal heavy]] metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden, formed in 1993 by Oscar Dronjak, former guitarist of Ceremonial Oath. A good number of their songs are HotBlooded and heroic themed anthems.

And yes, that town in ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'' is named after them and the game's art director, Samwise Didier, has made some of the band's album covers.

----
!!The band gives us these examples:
* AtomicFBomb: They fit one in their cover of Music/TwistedSister's "We're Not Gonna Take It", when the pace of the song slows down.
* AudienceParticipationSong: The anthemic nature of many of this band's songs leads to this occuring often, but a special mention to "Templars of Steel", which includes the lyrics "Raise your fist to the sky!" and Cans often has the audience shout the word "Revolution" in the chorus.
* BadassBoast: The single ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cohNst5zQMI Bushido]]'' is essentially one big, loud, hammy boast from the point of view of an incredibly proficient samurai.
* ChronologicalAlbumTitle: ''Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken'' is the fifth album of the band.
* CoverVersion: Among others, "[[Music/TheKnack My Sharona]]" and "[[Music/IronMaiden Hallowed Be Thy Name]]".
** CoverAlbum: ''Masterpieces'', which contains covers of songs originally performed by Music/{{Warlord}} ("Child of the Damned"), Music/{{Stormwitch}} ("Ravenlord"), Music/{{Picture}} ("Eternal Dark"), Music/PrettyMaids ("Back to Back"), Music/{{Helloween}} ("I Want Out"), Music/{{Rainbow}} ("Man on the Silver Mountain"), Music/{{Accept}} ("Head over Heels"), Music/HeavyLoad ("Run with the Devil"), Music/TwistedSister ("We're Gonna Make It"), Music/JudasPriest ("Breaking the Law"), Music/{{Chastain}} ("Angel of Mercy"), Music/YngwieMalmsteen ("Rising Force"), Music/{{KISS}} ("Detroit Rock City"), Music/{{Loudness}} ("Crazy Nights"), Music/RogerPontare ("När Vindarna Viskar Mitt Namn"), Music/{{Riot}} ("Flight of the Warrior"), Music/SkidRow ("Youth Gone Wild") and Music/{{Europe}} ("Aphasia").
* CreatorCameo: On one live concert they started singing "När Vindarna Viskar Mitt Namn" and in the middle of the song, Roger Pontare the songs creator himself joined in.
* DoNotGoGentle: [[DeathOfTheAuthor One of the most common interpretations]] of "At the End of the Rainbow" is that the warriors have already died and this is their heaven.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * DoomTroops: ''Any Means Neccessary''
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * EverythingsBetterWithRainbows:
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) ** "At the End of the Rainbow" on ''Legacy of Kings''.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) ** The cover of ''I Want Out'' also features one.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * EpicFlail: On the cover of ''Crimson Thunder''.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample and Administrivia/ExamplesAreNotGeneral) * GlorySeeker: "Glory to the Brave", as well as a number of others, given that their gimmick is that they pretend to be Templars.
* GrievousBottleyHarm: Cans got a beer bottle broken on his head while visiting a bar once.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * HeavyMeta: Many songs reference metal itself. Especially ''Life Is Now'', ''Stronger Than All'', and ''B.Y.H.''.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * HeavyMithril
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: Discussed in "Last Man Standing". The song is sung by a man who gave up everything and refused to budge in his beliefs, only to now see that he's just about out of time to make things right.
--> ''"Seeing clearer what I've done, I refused to let things go\
I could never once admit I'm wrong, and what do I have to show?\
Seeing clearer what's at stake, and the things I have to change\
I just hope I can, it's not too late to get a chance to end this pain!"''
* HesBack: After receiving a lot of flak for not including [[SeriesMascot Hector]] in the cover of ''Infected'', cue ''(r)Evolution'' not only featuring him, but the video for its opening song [[HesBack (being called ''Hector's Hymn'' even)]], [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome featuring every album cover in the history of Hammerfall that did include him!]]
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample and Administrivia/ExamplesAreNotGeneral) * HistoricalHeroUpgrade: The Knights Templar in many songs.
%% (Administrivia/ExamplesAreNotGeneral) * HorribleHistoryMetal: They have a number of songs about the Crusades.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * HotBlooded: As if the "Hearts on Fire" wasn't a clue...
* IAmLegion: "Legion" describes the Biblical demon, who's possessed by multiple demons at the same time.
--> ''"My name is Legion, for we are {{many spirits inside of one}}."''
%% (Administrivia/WeblinksAreNotExamples) * {{Instrumentals}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzKw1_IR2Og "Something for the Ages"]].
* LargeHam: Cans has two modes: "Ham" and "Hammier". Oscar goes further with his choice of costumes. It's no coincidence that "Ham" is in the band's very name.
* LyricalDissonance: "Natural High" sounds upbeat (like much of their stuff) but is actually about a vampire killing a woman.
* ManySpiritsInsideOfOne: "Legion" is the TropeNamer. It's a song based on the biblical tale of Legion, a man possessed by multiple demons.
* MetalBandMascot: Sir Hector, a knight wielding a large hammer.
* MetalScream: Cans is capable of some really high pitched and long ones.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: They made a second video for "Hearts on Fire" that starred [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL9mlqbG5CU the Swedish Women's Olympic Curling Team]].
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * MyHorseIsAMotorbike: In the song "Renegade".
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * TheNounAndTheNoun
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * PowerBallad: At least one per album, such as "Glory to the Brave", "Always Will Be", and "Send Me a Sign".
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * ThePowerOfRock: The first music video for "Hearts on Fire".
* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: The main character of ''Bushido''. The whole song is littered with references to how honorable he is.
* PunctuatedForEmphasis:
** "Unbent! Unbowed! Unbroken!" from "Fury of the Wild" (''Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken'', 2005).
** "Kill! Win! Live! Die!" from "Any Means Necessary" (''No Sacrifice, No Victory'', 2009).
** All the vocals of "Warriors of Faith" (''Legacy of Kings'', 1998).
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * RedSkyTakeWarning: "The Unforgiving Blade" by Hammerfall.
* {{Samurai}}: "Bushido" is essentially a IAmSong for the entire Samurai concept. So much that [[http://assets.blabbermouth.net.s3.amazonaws.com/media/hammerfallbushido.jpg its single cover]] has Hector's armor evoking this trope.
* ShoutOut:
** The song titles contain numerous references to ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'' - too many to be mere coincidence. For example, "Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken", part of the title of one of their albums, is also the motto of House Martell with the first two words swapped around. There is also the song titles "Take the Black", which is when somebody joins the Night's Watch, and "Dark Wings, Dark Words" which is an in-universe proverb about messages carried by ravens. Lastly, the song "Winter is Coming" from ''(r)Evolution'' contains direct references to the books.
** The song "Renegade" is a power-metal retelling of the setting of the TV series of the same name.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) *** The lyrics also fit the ''Comicbook/GhostRider'' mythos to a T.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) ** The song titled "Punish and Enslave" seems to be one to one of the labels on [[Film/Transformers2007 Barricade's vehicle form]].
** "No Sacrifice, No Victory" is the title of a track from the ''Film/{{Transformers|2007}}'' movie score, as well as a line from the movie.
** The song title "Bushido" from ''(r)Evolution'' is Japanese for "Way of the Warrior", also a song title from the album ''Renegade'' (2000), and the song ends with a CallBack to "Way of the Warrior".
* SongOfSongTitles: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtGFIrvtiAs "Hector's Hymn"]], its lyrics not only contain references from the band's previous singles, but also their albums. The music video even features the old album covers as well.
* StartMyOwn: The singer Joacim Cans has his own solo projects, one under the name ''Cans'' that mostly follows the style of Hammerfall, and one under his full name that's more folk inspired and uses Swedish texts.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample and Administrivia/ExamplesAreNotGeneral) * SubduedSection: Featured prominently.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * SuicideBySunlight: The music video for "Always Will Be" ends like this.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * TheXOfY
* WarIsGlorious: Hammerfall is just Music/{{Manowar}} with even MORE [[HeavyMithril fantastical elements]]. While Manowar has a 'low fantasy' barbarian theme, Hammerfall has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Em0GSw4qIFQ a clanky]] KnightTemplar Sword Brethren theme.
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) * ZombieApocalypse:
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) ** "Patient Zero".
%% (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample) ** Also, the video for "One More Time".
