->''The reputation of [[BadassCrew Team Gurren]] echoes far and wide! When they talk about its badass leader, the man of [[HeroicResolve indomitable spirit]] and paragon of masculinity, [[BadassBoast they're talkin' about me! THE MIGHTY KAMINA!]]''
-->-- '''Kamina''', ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann''.

The mighty realm of anime is no stranger to [[MemeticBadass badasses whose names echo in legend]].

----

* Somewhat a dark example but fans have noticed that a few series have their characters killed thanks to any vehicle, usually a truck, ramming into them, setting off a lot of {{Reincarnation}} stories.
* ''Anime/AngelBeats'': A clothespin! Y-you pin it... and it doesn't fall! The laundry doesn't get dirty! So beautiful!
** There's also T.K. Most of the fandom believes he's God.
** Shiina's appearance means that your force has been strengthen by [[OneManArmy a thousand men]].
* Chirico Cuvie from ''Anime/ArmoredTrooperVOTOMS'', a man who is able to turn an otherwise scrapworthy mech into a killing machine on par with gundams. It's also one of the few reasons why he doesn't give every other army a curb stomping. And even if you do shoot down his mech? He'll survive and find another within a week ready to fight again and even outside a scopedog, he can shoot down planes with his pistol.
** Forget ''planes'', he can shoot down ''the galaxy-sized '''[[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Granzeboma]]''' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqAmzPj9bLE with a pistol]]'' as seen in ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Jigoku-hen]]''.
* ''Manga/AttackOnTitan'': To the surprise of absolutely no-one, [[WorldsStrongestMan Captain Levi]] has developed into this. Also, more hilariously, the walnut from the second ending.
** The Walls weren't built to protect humans from the Titans, they were built to protect the ''Titans'' from '''LEVI MOTHERFUCKING ACKERMAN.'''
* ''Manga/{{Berserk}}'' has of course Guts TheBerserker (his love is like a truck), The Black Swordsman (not that skinny teen from ''Anime/SwordArtOnline''), The 100 Man-Slayer manga protagonist with a {{BFS}} who makes [[VideoGame/Doom2016 Doomslayer]] look like Princess Peach in comparsion. Fans consider Guts no less than a giga-chad who is simultaneously also TheWoobie to the greatest degree. There's also his purse for when Guts wears it, the purse "[[https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/915/061/637.jpg BECOMES A MANLY BAG]]".
** Rickert became one after [[spoiler:slapping [[BigBad Griffith]] himself in the face and ''getting away with it.'']] He's no slouch with his ingenious inventions either, which include a repeating crossbow and a prosthetic arm cannon.
%%* After the knife incident, [[CloudCuckooLander Osaka]] from ''Manga/AzumangaDaioh''.
* ''Literature/{{Baccano}}'':
** [[AxeCrazy Claire Stanfield]]. Most Baccano fans agree that he could take anything, from mere mob bosses to immortals to even possibly elder gods. And unlike Franchise/{{Batman}}, he would need no preptime at all.
** [[ShrinkingViolet Jacuzzi]] [[CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass Splot]] may make you groan in annoyance with his crybaby attitude, but he '''WILL''' make you groan in '''PAIN''' if you tempt him enough.
* ''Manga/BlackButler'':
** Elizabeth Middleford. Yes, you read that correctly. [[GirlyBruiser Underneath that cute, frilly exterior]] is a [[spoiler:dual sword wielding, zombie horde wrecking beast.]] Haters gonna' hate.
** Sebastian Michaelis, in his own words "[[BattleButler one hell of a butler]]".
* ''Manga/BlackClover'':
** While Yami is already considered badass by the fandom, it is agreed by everyone that he's at his strongest when someone interrupts him when [[ToiletHumor he's taking a dump.]]
** In a similar case to [[Manga/TheSevenDeadlySins Lord Twigo]], [[ButtMonkey Sekke]] of all people has become one, with people joking that he will become the next Wizard King, that he's the most powerful character of the manga or that he is the true BigBad of the series, manipulating everything from the shadows and using his arrogant and unlucky facade to not draw the attention.
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'':
** Aizen is famous for being an absolutely overpowered villain who is so powerful that not even multiple captains can defeat him. [[spoiler:Years later when he comes back to the action, he's become so powerful that he can defeat the Gotei 13 while being bound to the chair he was imprisoned in. In fact, the only thing that stops him from being wrecking more shit is the ''chair''. It is now Chair-kun, the most powerful being in the universe.]]
** We have Aizen's truly gigantic ''couch'', which has been theorized to be The [[strike:Man]] Couch ''Behind'' TheManBehindTheMan and the strongest character in the series. To a lesser degree, this applies to the rest of Aizen's furniture as well, all of which is over the top.
** There is also Yammy, Espada # 10 who had been propelled to Godlike levels of power long before he was revealed to be [[spoiler:in actuality, ''Espada # 0'']].
** Kenpachi Zaraki is actually an alternate universe version of Chuck Norris. Just replace "roundhouse kick" with "cut you to little bits".
*** They say that if Kenpachi reached Bankai, the Universe would implode. An AscendedMeme (though not word for word) thanks to the anime.
*** It's more likely that [[http://www.animerda.com/2010/07/fantira-bleach-chuck-norris-553.html his bankai is Chuck Norris]].[[note]]The linked strip is in Portuguese, and written in a very fan-style, so never mind the misspelling[[/note]]
*** Same result.
** Squad 11, which Kenpachi leads, fears only one person more than their captain: the captain of "wimpy" Squad 4, Unohana Retsu. Who walks into Hueco Mundo, and promptly scares off a powerful Arrancar ''as well as an entire squad of his clones'', with a ''polite request and gentle smile''. She can scare ''anybody'' -- even '''''Aizen''''' -- into submission with with a polite request and a smile. Hell, she does not even have to be in the room. She even '''GOT FREAKIN' KENPACHI''' to back down. She's that terrifying. And here is why: [[spoiler:She was the First Kenpachi -- the person '''Zaraki''' desires to be!]]
** Isshin's so badass he can take Aizen on with just his middle finger.
** Chojiro Sasakibe was known for being a MemeticLoser due to his severe lack of screentime, being quickly defeated by Ichigo and later unceremoniously killed off at the beginning of the ''Thousand-Year Blood War'' arc. The anime adaptation of the ''Thousand-Year Blood War'' changes his reputation for the positive, particularly it adds a flashback scene where Sasakibe contributed to Yhwach's defeat 1000 years prior to the story, namely stabbing him from behind with a sneak attack. This led to countless memes of Sasakibe stabbing/cutting other characters from behind, and people joking about him being so dangerous to Yhwach that he decided to take Sasakibe out first.
* ''Anime/{{Canaan}}'': Need a taxi anyone?
* ''Literature/ACertainMagicalIndex'':
** Touma Kamijou. In the Japanese side of the fandom: Put him up against ''anything'', he'll [[AntiMagic Imagine Break]] it into oblivion, and he has his own [[MemeticMutation meme]]: Sogebu (stands for '''So'''no '''Ge'''nsou wo '''Bu'''chikorosu[[note]][[CatchPhrase "I will Kill that Illusion!"]][[/note]]). In the West? He's the freaking ''Tou'''MAN'''''.
*** He's also this InUniverse: after all the stuff he's done, plenty of people are ''terrified'' about the idea that he could get involved in anything close to them, and within Academy City he's earned a reputation as the guy that will [[SpannerInTheWorks screw up your plans]], [[WorldsBestWarrior kick your ass]] and [[CluelessChickMagnet steal your girlfriend]].
** Accelerator. Dude has invincible powers, loses them, and that just makes him even stronger. He's still Academy City's #1 esper.
** Acqua of the Back is Franchise/{{Superman}}.
* ''Anime/{{Clannad}}'': Tomoyo Sakagami. Mess with her and she'll [[KickChick juggle you with her feet.]]
* Teresa from ''Manga/{{Claymore}}'' will cut your God in half. BEFORE HE BREATHES. Just ask the 4 other Claymores that attacked her.
* ''Anime/CodeGeass'':
** Margrave Jeremiah Gottwald is '''THE ULTIMATE SYMBOL OF CHIVALRY AND LOYALTY'''.
** Suzaku Kururugi. In-show, he does boast some pretty impressive CharlesAtlasSuperpower, but the fandom has raised him to the point where his "Spinzaku" alter-ego can throw down in ArtisticLicenseMartialArts with Chuck Norris and at least draw.
** Kyoshiro Tohdoh has also become one among certain segments of the English-speaking fandom, credited with such abilities as shooting lasers out of his eyes and consuming human souls through eye contact.
*** The fact that Tohdoh's English voice actor is Creator/SteveBlum (considered the English equivalent of Creator/NorioWakamoto on this very wiki for a reason) may be a contributing factor.
** [[{{Bishonen}} Clovis la Britannia]] and [[UnluckyEverydude Rivalz Cardemonde]] have both qualified, thanks to a plethora of SoBadItsGood Fanfictions that were spawned on a certain image board. Some of the sheer badassitude attributed to Clovis in [[http://fanfiction.wikia.com/wiki/Clovis_Of_Britannia certain fanfics]] has to be read to be believed. Clovis remained extremely popular among certain fans throughout the series run, despite having bit it within three episodes. His popularity may have contributed to him being mentioned and referenced throughout the first series and into R2.
** Lelouch vi Britannia only misses out on this page because he doesn't ''need'' to be exaggerated. He really did hit an army with a mountain. [[spoiler:'''And''' a ''volcano.'']]
%% When did Lelouch do those things?
* Only Ange in ''Anime/CrossAnge'' can claim to break a metallic arm ''with her ass. While she was cavity searched.'' In ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsV'', if the Vilkiss is in a space map, she ''still'' opens the Vilkiss' cockpit to deliver her killing blow with her machine gun ''without any space suit or even a mask!'' Remember the abovementioned Chirico Cuvie? Even he had to wear a mask!
** There's only one awesome maid in this series capable of serving Ange, and that's Momoka Oginome, [[GratuitousEnglish TOPPU MEIDO!]] She can even survive anything with just a frying pan on her chest!
* [[FanNickname Space pimp]] Banjou Haran from ''Anime/{{Daitarn 3}}'' is essentially Film/JamesBond with a HumongousMecha, with all of the badass that implies.
* After [[spoiler:Kirigiri]]'s death in ''Anime/Danganronpa3TheEndOfHopesPeakHighSchool'', the fanbase split into two groups: those who reacted with sadness, and those [[https://www.reddit.com/r/danganronpa/comments/51aenb/dr3_spoilers_x_might_be_alive/ who]] [[https://www.reddit.com/r/danganronpa/comments/51anik/dr3_future_arc_09_spoilers_drthh_spoilersdont/ proclaimed]] [[https://www.reddit.com/r/danganronpa/comments/51dvcu/throwing_my_hat_into_the_ring_for_the_theory_of/ that]] she was too badass to die, that this was an ''obvious'' fakeout, that her being imprisoned and poisoned and forcibly sedated was no guarantee that her murderer had succeeded, etc.
** Izuru Kamukura had always held this title after ''VideoGame/DanganronpaAnotherEpisodeUltraDespairGirls'' showed him punching through ''solid steel'' with his bare hands without flinching, but the anime elevated it after, in short order, he completely curb-stomped (literally) [[BigBad Junko]] and back-handed [[TheDragon Mukuro]] into a wall...while staying completely seated on his bed. Cue thousands of posts proclaiming his real title was Ultimate Badass, that his hair was a measurement of his power, that if he ever got serious he would end the show on the spot, etc.
* Hei AKA Chinese Electric Batman from ''Anime/DarkerThanBlack''. Even before getting his power, he was badass incarnate, after getting it, he's pretty much the most dangerous Contractor in the world. His coat is also bulletproof only when he wears them, because he's just ''that'' badass.
* In terms of {{Power Level}}s, [[VisualNovel/{{Demonbane}} Elder God Demonbane]] is one of the end-all discussions of PowerLevel arguments out there (not just limited to HumongousMecha either): essentially, anything a character can do, [[AlwaysSomeoneBetter there exists a Demonbane who can do it better]].
* Daimon Masaru (known as Marcus Damon in the dub) from ''Anime/DigimonDataSquad'', due to his in universe ability to punch and actually ''hurt'' enemy Digimon. The finale of the series has Masaru [[spoiler:punching and defeating Yggdrasil, the Digital World equivalent of ''God''.]] Needless to say, this is carried over to his finale in ''Anime/DigimonXrosWarsTheYoungHuntersWhoLeaptThroughTime'', which has him punching bigger and more impressive things and the fandom has run with it.
** As seen in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrHdXHdVJ8w this video]], [[Anime/DigimonDataSquad Masaru Daimon]] owns your soul, and he probably owns it solely for the purpose of punching it into submission.
** Also from ''Anime/DigimonDataSquad'': [=BancheoLeomon=]: Fedora, BadassLongcoat, deep gravelly voice, ''and'' is a MysteriousProtector. Amongst the fandom, he's commonly known as "the manliest digimon ever".
** Beelzemon from ''Anime/DigimonTamers''. {{Determinator}} extraordinaire, [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomped]] the heroes when they fought, [[spoiler:''killed'' one of the heroes when they fought]], [[CharacterDevelopment had an awesome redemption arc]], and his appearance can be summed up as "[[HellBentForLeather leather-clad]], black-winged BadassBiker with a [[{{BFG}} Big Fucking]] ArmCannon". If [=BancheoLeomon=] is the manliest digimon ever, then Beelzemon is not too far behind him.
** A little more old-school is Matt's dad, Hiroaki Ishida. As the most hands-on and helpful of the team's parents, he had this rep back in season one's heyday.
* The Literature/DirtyPair. Hell, even their ''name'' is because of their reputation. Space stations, buildings, cities, whole planets (and in one Adam Warren comic, an entire star cluster) get destroyed in their adventures. Never mind that it's not actually their fault.
* ''Manga/DragonBall'':
** Although possibly a localized example, Mr. Popo from became this on the Website/GameFAQs board devoted to the series. The origin of this is a filler scene where he manages to catch the punches of Super Saiyans Trunks and Goten, despite being far, far less powerful than them. So many topics were made asking how he could do this, that eventually the posters just ran with it. This is also the case in ''WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged'', whose version of Mr. Popo is... massively over-the-top, prone to [[ForTheEvulz random acts of cruelty]], and hilarious. It helps that one of his earliest appearances in ''Manga/DragonBall'' has him casually and literally ''eating'' the Kamehameha.
---> "Enjoy the climb back up, [[ThisIsForEmphasisBitch BITCH!]]"
---> "I'll tell where they're not. '''Safe.'''
** In the first episode of ''Anime/DragonBallZ'', there is an anonymous farmer who tries to confront Raditz with a shotgun, only to be casually murdered and never heard from again. At some point, this character became known as "Farmer With A Shotgun" and generated rumor that he is phenomenally powerful, and could even defeat Cell or Majin Buu ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EaBfxAmd_g or Raditz, for that matter]]) for good.
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OLZb8paVuE Case]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDvvMGo-FX8 in]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rI57EY58SxE point.]]
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTKPBZDAw5Q Here's another version that jumps around less.]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGHWJyDSXps Here's another.]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsvQadxQXHs Then we have a long one with Cell.]] In fact this guy collected (seemly) all of them he could find and put them on this account, but gave credit for them. Then he made some originals.
*** He's not quivering in fear, ''he's trembling with rage!!''
*** This may have some basis in reality, seeing how the guy is seen near the end of the series, alive and well.
** Also postulated to be the most powerful characters in the series (and in all of existence) by [=GameFAQs=]: Mr. Satan (of course), Dr. Briefs' cat, and a random at one of the tournaments wearing a t-shirt that says "Super Saiyan" on it.
** SON FRIGGIN GOKU. His PowerLevel is '''[[OverNineThousand OVER NINE THOOOOOUUUUUUUUUSAAAAAAAAAAAAND]]!!!!!''' And even before that, he was beating back entire armies with a magic stick and taking people up to the moon. He then killed the Demon King with one hand and beat his more powerful son with all his limbs disabled. You also can't kill Goku unless it's on ''his'' terms. When one of the most notable memes among the fandom is ''whether or not someone can beat Goku'', he's one of these full-stop.
** Don't piss [[MartialPacifist Son Gohan]] off, or you'll be '''''[[UnstoppableRage fi]][[BewareTheNiceOnes ni]][[SuperPoweredEvilSide sh]][[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown ed!]]''''' He vaporized the UltimateLifeForm when he was just eleven.
** Perhaps the best example though has to be [[MamaBear Chi-Chi]]. Goku may be the strongest being in the Universe, but he's scared crapless by his wife. Hell, Chi-Chi would've won the Cell Games in one episode.
** [[GooGooGodlike Baby Pan]] is jokingly regarded as one of the most powerful beings of Universe 7, able to fly into outer space and beat up Future Trunks while still be just a year old. Some even claim that Pan holds the record of being the youngest person (literally as a fetus) to ever go Super Saiyan since Videl is able to partake in a Super Saiyan God ritual when she is pregnant with Pan.
** Broly's power is ''maximum!!''
*** So maximum he [[CanonImmigrant became]] canon.
** Cooler, Frieza’s [[{{Pun}} cooler]] older brother is frequently considered this especially in the ''VideoGame/DragonBallFighterZ'' community where [[https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQOnTGkhunajsMAWS85fQIY6iepOu-zXcJiXw&usqp=CAU he wields guns]] and plants Goku in the ground like a “dumbass ass tree”.
** Roshi's turtle, anyone? It obviously has the power to suppress its power level, and even General Blue knew better than to engage the turtle in a fight. Turtle > [=SSJ4=] Gogeta.
** Bulma gets this in ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'' for being the only character (aside from Whis) who is able to get away with scolding and hitting Beerus. It even appears that Beerus is scared of Bulma, sweatdropping or looking nervous whenever Bulma gets angry. That's right, the [[DestroyerDeity God of Destruction]] is intimidated by this one mortal. She's also jokingly said to be immensely powerful for her slap scratching Beerus in ''[[Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods Battle of Gods]]'', while sustaining little damage from Beerus knocking her down.[[note]]Beerus had greatly suppressed his power when he hit her, but she was still knocked unconscious.[[/note]]
** Yamcha has received this status for getting away with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EneFn2qslUk&ab_channel=DarkraiX smacking Beerus]]. Yamcha's playable incarnation in ''VideoGame/DragonBallFighterZ'' also gets this due to how surprisingly awesome he is to play, with numerous comments on gameplay videos declaring him one of the most powerful beings in the Dragon Ball universe.
** Vegeta [[FountainOfMemes has a power level over 9000 due to the amount of juice he drinks.]] He managed to beat up Golden Frieza and Beerus[[note]]Not at his full power, of course, but Goku couldn't land a punch on him at Super Saiyan 3, a form Vegeta can't access, while Beerus was using a similar amount of power.[[/note]], both of which Goku had failed to defeat not long before his first fight with them, and defeated [[spoiler:Frost]] in one punch just for [[spoiler:looking kinda like Frieza.]] Like any good Dragon Ball character, he also has a habit of getting back up again no matter what he's hit with.
* Shizuo from ''Literature/{{Durarara}}''. It took [[spoiler:getting stabbed in the knees with pens twice]] for Shizuo to notice he was getting attacked.
** Shuji directly asks Celty the "who would win in a fight?" question, which causes her to burst out laughing. It's Shizuo against an unkillable fae with the ability to give darkness physical form -- Of course Shizuo would win.
*** Shizuo is this so much in-universe that Tom considers anyone who lives in Ikebukuro but doesn't know about him as most likely [[TheDitz public school dropouts]].
** Mikado is considered one now after the [[spoiler:pen-stabbing incident]] with Aoba.
** Izaya, on the other hand, will ''[[ItAmusedMe troll]]'' you out of your clothes. [[MemeticMutation And then stomp on your cellphone]].
* ''Manga/FairyTail'':
** When your name is [[{{Determinator}} Erza]] [[ActionGirl Scarlet]], is there really anything more to say?
--->''"That's Erza for ya!"''
** What will Natsu eat? He eats from an ''Explosion''.
** Mirajane [[BerserkButton doesn't tolerate you harming her family]].
** Gildartz made [[{{Determinator}} Natsu]] cry.
** PlayedForLaughs in canon with Lucy, who would get credited with a bunch of wild, incredible deeds... maybe ten percent of which she actually performed, and which were ''all'' horrendously exaggerated due to unreliable word-of-mouth.
* ''Literature/TheFamiliarOfZero'': [[OneManArmy Saito]] ''can'' and '''will''' simply [[MemeticMutation walk into Mordor]].
* ''Franchise/FateSeries'':
** The Servant Archer from ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' had such a badass final fight, it spawned the creation of the word/concept of GAR. (Note: This one is actually true.)
** The Berserker from ''Literature/FateZero'', also known as GARserker. His first scene in the anime is already badass enough, but it goes up to eleven when he [[spoiler:TAKES OVER A JET FIGHTER AND DOGFIGHTS GILGAMESH.]] He also kicks Saber's ass in the span of 40 seconds (she did have limited use of her left hand but it would've barely made a difference), later curb-stomps her until he runs out of mana, and shoots a minigun from the hip in midair.
** Given how powerless he is and how amusingly [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex full of himself yet completely pathetic]] he behaves, it was inevitable that Shinji has become a bit of an ironic memetic badass in the fandom.
* Thanks to his infamous and vastly parodied catchphrase, ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar'''s Kenshiro regularly wanders into meme battles from out of nowhere. Which, ironically, is how every single non-essential story in the ''[=HnK=]'' universe starts out. One particular example had him challenge and utterly destroy a near-hundred person band of marauding raiders who had recently ravaged a small township he had passed through. He simply stood in the way of the only exit from the cavern, and stated any who made it past would be granted amnesty and live past this day. [[ABloodyMess Yeah, no surprises what happens next.]]
** Also, Raoh. When a [[ViewersInMourning real-life]] [[SeriousBusiness funeral]] is held when the character dies, you know they're one of these.
* Nasa, the protagonist of ''Manga/FlyMeToTheMoon'', has gained a reputation as a badass among Romantic Comedy protagonists; not only did he survive a direct hit from [[LookBothWays Truck-kun]], but he also married ''and'' kissed his LoveInterest in the opening chapters of the manga/first episode of the anime, while most would take dozens of not hundreds of volumes/episode to even get to HoldingHands.
* Klaus Heinz van dem Eberbach of NATO Intelligence, from ''Manga/FromEroicaWithLove''. So badass he is known as "Iron Klaus". When he arrived on Alaska, the local FBI commented "I heard that all the Alaskan bears are migrating out after hearing that Iron Klaus is here".
* '''THIS PRACTICE OF BADASSERY HAS BEEN PASSED DOWN THROUGH THE [[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist ARMSTRONG]] FAMILY FOR GENERATIONS!!!'''
** Roy Mustang deserves a spot on here. He closes his wounds with FIRE. He also never cries, it just happens to rain sometimes.
*** When he's fuhrer all female officers will wear '''TINY MINI SKIRTS!!!'''
** King Bradley killed a tank. With a sword.
*** You don't bring a tank to a Bradley fight!
*** You don't bring a Bradley to a tank fight!
** Izumi doesn't even need vital organs to KICK YOUR ASS.
* ''Literature/FullMetalPanic'': Believe me -- ask ''anyone'', and they will tell you it's canon that Gauron is an immortal zombie. People probably conceded to his immortal superpowers when he [[NoOneCouldSurviveThat survived a deadly explosion the five billionth time]].
* ''Manga/FutureDiary'''s Yuno Gasai is the unstoppable {{Yandere}} of all Yanderes. Don't get in her way, and whatever you do, don't hurt [[BerserkButton Yukki]].
** Yuno [[MemeticMutation WILL PROTECT THE SHIT OUT OF YOU.]]
* ''Manga/GetterRobo'':
** Unlike most martial artists Ryoma Nagare does not [[BrickBreak break bricks]]. He breaks dinosaurs. And swords. You think stabbing Ryoma's going to stop him? He just flexes and that sword breaks. There's also his ability to shrug off a knife in the shoulder. New Getter just had him pull it out. In the manga, he remarks that all the assailant did was sever a tendon. Rendering Ryoma's arm inoperable doesn't even slow him down.
---> "The voice which quakes the universe itself, was indeed that of Ryoma Nagare."
** And he's not the only one. Hayato gets this somewhat (if only for the fact that [[BeyondTheImpossible he BREAKS SOMEONES EYES AND EARS IN TWO CONTINUITIES]] and yet is still TheStoic of the team), and Musashi... well, somewhat for [[TheyKilledKenny his obvious conclusion]] being one of Ryoma's biggest {{Berserk Button}}s, but also because [[DyingMomentOfAwesome of what he DOES while going down. Up to and including BLOWING UP NEW YORK.]]
** Also, Jack King and Texas Mack. [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments Their cannon has too much high power man!]]
* Fictional example: Much of ''Anime/GhostInTheShellStandAloneComplex'' is about Laughing Man imitators. His already godlike hacking abilities are exaggerated by the media and greedy corporations.
** The Major. There will always be plenty of people who will have the rank of Major, but to fans, there can only ever be one "The Major."
* In three and a half years, Manga/{{Golgo 13}} will have killed everyone on the planet.
* The late ''Creator/DaisukeGori'': "'''''I AM THE [[RankScalesWithAsskicking PRINCIPAL OF OTOKO JUKU EDAJIMA HEIHACHI!'''''"]]
** Edajima Heihachi has since been given his own manga about how he became the principal of Otokojuku. Amongst other insane acts of badassery, he took (and passed, top of his class) the entrance exam to Tokyo University at twelve years of age. He rescued the Emperor of Manchuria from a prison cell on accident, and mastered Kung Fu just by watching someone else practice it for 30 seconds. Need we say more?
* ''Manga/{{Hellsing}}'':
** Alucard, a character so powerful that there is basically no way to actually exaggerate the stuff he can do, gets this treatment often.
** Integra gets this treatment at lesser degree, because she's the one sending Alucard to be a badass. "SEARCH AND DESTROY!"
** A curious in universe example of this is Sir Shelby Penwood, who went down Hellsing history as a true hero and badass who can slice through Zeppelin and nazi armies.
** Piss off the police girl, and you get "NO FORGIVENESS! EVER!"
** Father Alexander '''''[[CatchPhrase AAAAAAAAAMEEEEEEEEENNNNN!!!!!!!!]]'''''
** Just about every character in ''Manga/{{Hellsing}}'' gets this treatment. ''[[WorldOfBadass Seriously.]]''
* ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'':
** "ALL HAIL PRUSSIA! PRAISE HIM! ON YOUR KNEES!"
** [[ImprobableWeaponUser Hungary]], the manliest character in all of history, would like Austria's vital regions returned.
** [[PsychopathicManChild YOU WILL ALL BECOME ONE WITH]] [[HuskyRusskie RUSSIA]]. Not to mention that he broke Busby's Chair which is supposed to send anybody who sits in it to hell... twice!
** ALL HAIL FLYING MINT BUNNY, OUR GOD, THE CREATOR.
** As of ''Manga/{{Hetaween 2011}}'', we have Romano. Or better said: [[spoiler:GRANDMANO.]]
** Finland (specifically Sniper Finland) seems to be becoming this, mostly on the grounds that any country that could produce someone like Simo Hayha is automatically a badass.
* [[ChivalrousPervert Issei Hyoudou]] in ''Literature/HighSchoolDXD''. He's got at least '''''[[SerialEscalation SEVENTEEN]]''''' badass tropes in his name, three more than ''[[VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia Yuri Lowell]]'' and just as many as '''[[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim the freaking Dragonborn]]'''.
** Not too far behind we have [[FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire Gasper]] -- or better, '''[[StupidSexyFlanders GAR]]'''sper -- being able to twist time to his liking and literally blow stuff up, [[MadScientist Azazel]], with all the crazy -- and stylish things he does, and [[BunnyEarsLawyer Sirzechs]], as... Well, if he scared Hades shitless he's got to be badass.
* ''Toys/{{Jewelpet}}'':
** Garnet can [[Film/AvengersInfinityWar finger snap]] [[Film/AvengersEndgame the whole]] Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3d8B1nc2j8 away]]...and while [[spoiler:Iron Man snaps once and dies, she can snap repeatedly without feeling a thing and doesn't need the Infinity Stones to do the Snap.]]
** Luea is stated to be able to do more damage in a single episode than [[WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra Korra]] can in her entire show. Why, you ask? Luea's canon feats alone include turning Sakutaro into a toothpick, creating a massive water tornado, repeatedly encircling a large area in six seconds and lighting it on fire to heat up everyone around her, crushing a giant monster with the entire Leaning Tower of Pisa, landing on a moving plane, and levitating a castle into space. She even one-shotted [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHYT585GK_s Amon]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSVPhbrimbo Zaheer]] (the former so hard he exploded) and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrZA2gJBPaE blew up]] [[WesternAnimation/KungFuPanda2 Lord Shen's]] ship just by kicking a soccer ball into it. Oh, and it's a good thing Ruby dodged her punch, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ly20jZOnXkg for it's]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_qEvvbq1OE powerful enough]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZWtt5vWgTA to one-shot]] [[Film/GreenLantern2011 Parallax]], [[Anime/DragonBallZBrolyTheLegendarySuperSaiyan Broly]], and [[Film/PacificRimUprising a Mega Kaiju]].
* ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'':
** It's become something of a joke among fans that series author, Creator/HirohikoAraki, is [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Arakilander.jpg an ageless immortal]] ([[Manga/{{Gintama}} or an immortal fairy]]).
** Joseph goddamn Joestar, espeically when he says "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jnVadPvjro&ab_channel=Jos%C3%A9Fino Your Next Line is]]" which he used even on the UltimateLifeForm. In ''[[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureBattleTendency Battle Tendency]]'' with no Stand, posing and plenty of bullshit, he wrecked four Aztec superbeings who were 10 times more powerful than Dio was in ''Phantom Blood'' and he's the only [=JoJo=] who got to live until old age. Even as a 69 year old man in ''[[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureStardustCrusaders Stardust Crusaders]]'' he still generates PerverseSexualLust in and out of universe "OH MY GOD" and it's pretty confirmed had Alessi used his FountainOfYouth Stand on Joseph (returning him to his prime) the adventure would've been over in no time at all, because peak Joseph ''is just that badass''.
** While Robert E. O. Speedwagon is a BadassNormal at best, his status as the series' biggest EnsembleDarkHorse has resulted in him being proclaimed as the strongest character in the franchise.
** ''[[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureGoldenWind Golden Wind]]'':
*** While Giorno Giovanna is [[spoiler:canonically '''the strongest''' character in the entire series thanks to his evolved [[FightingSpirit Stand]], [[StoryBreakerPower Gold Experience Requiem]], being able to NoSell '''literally any attack''']], many fans joke that he could beat anyone ''even without'' [[spoiler:Requiem]], just as long as ''[[ThemeMusicPowerUp Il vento d'oro]]'' is playing.
*** Guido Mista, who manages to be both this ''and'' MemeticLoser. Despite suffering from TheWorfEffect a number of times throughout the Part, fans often treat him as a ComicBook/{{Deadpool}}-esque badass with a harem of every character in the Part.
* ''Manga/KenichiTheMightiestDisciple'':
** Furinji Hayato]] can take on the US army and win. Also he used people as weapons.
** Anything in Shigure's hands becomes a [[AbsurdlySharpBlade deadly weapon]] though she [[MartialPacifist won't kill you]].
** Apachai can punch through a few walls and down a few stories without killing you.
* Takamachi Nanoha in ''Franchise/LyricalNanoha'': mostly justified, though her tendency to shoot first ([[TheParalyzer because magic damage can't kill people]]) extended by fans into outright battle lust to [[DefeatMeansFriendship befriend people through maximum firepower]] rather than a last resort.
** This is silly of course. Everyone knows [[EmpathicWeapon Raising Heart's]] [[ArtifactOfDoom the true reason behind Nanoha's battlelust and god-like power]].
** Just like Chuck Norris's legs, Nanoha's index fingers have names. The left one is Shock and the right one is Awe.
* ''Anime/MacrossFrontier'':
** Because Ozma Lee '''IS A MAN!''', [[ItMakesSenseInContext he punched the curse of pineapple cake in the face, and then ate it.]]
** Machida, a [[RedShirtArmy NUNS]] VF-171 pilot who appears for roughly 20 seconds in a single episode. In a world where RedShirts last about ten and generally die in a flurry of StockFootage, we see what at first glance appears to be said StockFootage of a flight getting killed by missiles. The missiles come in and... [[HighSpeedMissileDodge get dodged]] as Machida laughs "You thought that was going to work every time?!" Commence ass kicking of two red vajra (which usually require combined arms attacks from the protagonists to take down). Has becomes something of a meme for any random vehicle pilot (at least Valkyrie pilots in any ''Macross'' series) who ''should'' be a RedShirt and yet does something ''beyond'' the call of the RedShirt, since obviously all of them were Machida. Yes, this goes retroactively to all the older ''Anime/{{Macross}}'' series too.
* For decades, the ''Anime/{{Mazinger|Z}}'' franchise codified plenty of {{Mecha}} tropes, but wasn't exactly a notable machine, when others like the Elder God Demonbane and Getter Emperor eclipsed what Mazinger Z can do in terms of abilities and power. In comes [[Manga/ShinMazingerZero Mazinger ZERO]], whose immense StoryBreakerPower leads to [[spoiler:every HumongousMecha in TheMultiverse ever created fighting ZERO, yet only beat the latter into submission]]. It's telling that ZERO has put ''Mazinger'' back into the upper echelons of the {{Mecha}} genre when MassivelyMultiplayerCrossover ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars'' explicitly states ZERO is the single greatest threat to all parties.
* Char Aznable from ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam'' is stated to make anything three times faster (from a statement that Char's [[AceCustom custom red Zaku]] was three times faster than a normal Zaku). This is also expanded to just mention the word "three times" in some way, like Char Aznable is three times as badass as Chuck Norris.
** Additionally, it became a common meme that everything painted red in ''Gundam'' is three times faster that its counterparts. At one point ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Gundam 00]]'' {{lampshade}}d it with [[spoiler:Trans-Am system]] which, when activated, actually paints an otherwise traditionally colored Gundam red and makes it ''exactly'' three times faster than before.
*** The Zudah showed what would happen if you tried to make a suit go three times faster without a red coat of paint. It explodes.
*** [[TabletopGame/Warhammer40000 Da Red wunz go faster, ya gitz!]]
*** Points must be given to Major Duvall for going out in style, as well as completing his objective as he does so, comparable to [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamThe08thMSTeam Norris Packard]]'s own awesome death.
** "Nu Gundam isn't for Show!" And how given it single handely stopped an asteroid
** ''Anime/MobileFighterGGundam'': Master Asia could solo the Gundam multiverse. ''On foot and armed only with a sash.''
*** Also, anytime a person fights a HumongousMecha that's not a MechaMook on foot tends to be referred to as channeling the great Undefeated Of The East.
** Bright Noa: [[GetAHoldOfYourSelfMan slapping spineless wimps]] into '''[[TookALevelInBadass MEN OF DESTINY]]''' since UC 0060.
*** In ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars4'', this is completely canon: He is responsible for making [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Shinji Ikari]] a Badass, and has killed the Angels! He's also proven himself to be so awesome a battle commander, forces from over 50 different mecha anime have been willing to concede to his authority.
** Ali Al Saachez of ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Gundam 00]]'' is quite popular, and egregiously so. Some fans adore seeing him for not [[BloodKnight what]] [[PsychoForHire he is]], but what [[DracoInLeatherPants they have turned him into]], and it has affected some people's views on the plot (usually positive). A particular trait is his abnormally high survival rate and "high score" on main character kill counts, both on and off screen. After all, ''"Prince Ali, mighty is he!"''
*** Furthermore, he doesn't wear the seatbelt for his safety. He wears it for the car's.
** Patrick Colasour could take on all the memetic badasses on this page, get knocked into a black hole, and pull himself out of it unscathed.
** [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSeed Lacus]] [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Clyne]] will take over the universe with a smile, her songs, and her army of Haros! [[spoiler:She does. As the leaderess of the [=PLANTs=], that is.]]
*** Kira Yamato's also gotten in on this with his status as "Commodore Kira", a hyper-competent, infallabile, prodigy military commander who is perfect in every way. [[SubvertedTrope Though in this case it's meant to ridicule and mock the character rather than to be taken seroiusly.]]
*** All hail Jesus Yamato!
** Mix one part ''Zeta''-era Amuro Ray, one part Quattro Bajeena and one part Bright Noah in a blender and set to liquefy. Add HotbloodedSideburns. [[Anime/AfterWarGundamX The result? JAMIL NEATE.]]
** Tobia Arronax is considered one for all the amazing feats he pulls off in Crossbone, which include surviving being shot in the chest, hijacking a Gundam you were fighting against ''on foot'', being a pirate, and having a 13-bladed beam saber.
*** Let's also not forget his plan for getting into orbit: strap a ''gigantic rocket'' on your Gundam's back and hang on tight!
*** He's been called the Creator/ChuckNorris of the UC timeline. [[http://kyon.pl/img/13753,extreme_advertising,Gundam,Tobia_Arronax,MacGyver,.html This image says it all, really.]]
** Daguza Mackle from ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamUnicorn'' is heading in this direction, for taking on an ace custom with a handheld bazooka. He does it again in Episode 3, but this time to [[BigBad Full Frontal's]] [[AceCustom Sinanju]].
** Harry Ord is one among ''Anime/TurnAGundam'' fans, described on its page as "Char minus [[FatalFlaw ambition]] plus awesome".
*** The Turn A itself, on account of being undeniably the most powerful Gundam ever made (well, unless [[spoiler:the Turn X]] counts as a Gundam, in which case there is room for debate); most stalemated [[UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny Gundam vs. Gundam "who would win"s]] end with "Turn A kills them both".
** Gihren Zabi is depicted in the original series as a cold-hearted dictator willing to kill millions and permanently damage the Earth's environment if it means he'll get to rule it, but because of games like ''VideoGame/GihrensGreed'' (which, if you do a "good" playthrough as him and win, results in an ending where Gihren takes over the Earth and leads it into a glorious future) some fans have taken to joking about Gihren as if he were a benevolent dictator who could have singlehandedly solved everything in the series and brought about everlasting peace.
** ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamTheWitchFromMercury''[='s=] Chuatury "Chuchu" Panlunch became this thanks to her MemeticHair, but clearly exploded in popularity after slugging two bullies in the face and later getting in the winning shot by sniping Shaddiq's Mobile Suit in the head with a wrecked beam sniper gun.
*** In the second cour, Felsi Rollo joined Chuchu after she [[spoiler:saved Guel from dying in his Mobile Suit and chewed both him and his brother Lauda for their idiocy]]. Because of this act, Felsi suddenly became a badass that could save anyone from the ''Gundam'' franchise's infamous tragic moments.
* ''Manga/{{Monster}}'': Johan Liebert can make you [[DrivenToSuicide kill yourself]] just by [[DissonantSerenity smiling pleasantly]].
* In a similar vein to [[TriangleShades Kamina's sunglasses]], it's agreed that adding Creator/GoNagai's [[HotbloodedSideburns trademark fiery sideburns]] and eyebrows to a character will make them more manly and/or HotBlooded. [[http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/2500/shinjimanlyjf9.jpg Observe]]. This has even become a part of the industry itself, with tribute characters such as [[Anime/MartianSuccessorNadesico Gai Daigoji]] and [[Anime/LuckyStar Meito Anisawa]] sporting a pair of impressive 'chops.
** Interestingly enough, in Parallel Works #4 ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_g49VVhiDg link here)]], Evil!Kamina has both his sunglasses and HotbloodedSideburns. Perhaps if we mix both, the result is [[GoneHorriblyWrong evil?]]
* ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'':
** Kinoko Komori is this due to her ''extremely'' lethal and just as underutilized power which allows her to grow Mushrooms anywhere. Including inside your body. She can give you ''literal'' brain rot by growing mushrooms on your brain. Or stop your heart by clogging every artery in your body at once. Horikoshi himself seems to have realized just how much potential Mushroom has to be a StoryBreakerPower which is why in the finale he has Kinoko matched up against Dabi, who is able to take advantage of her quirk's only meaningful weakness which is that her mushrooms can't grow in high temperature environments.
* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'':
** Due in large part to him [[ButterflyOfDoom starting a chain of events that ultimately caused Sasuke to defect from Konoha]] by letting it slip that Itachi came by, thus bringing the story to where it is now, [[http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Aoba_Yamashiro Aoba Yamashiro]] has been hailed as a badass SpannerInTheWorks or ChessMaster by the fans. Recently, his legend grew when he showed up again with a team of reinforcements after two major villains succeeded in [[spoiler:killing a major secondary character]]. The villains were ordered to retreat shortly thereafter, but that didn't stop the fans from claiming that they had, in reality, ran in terror at the sight of Aoba and his Murder of Crows no Jutsu. It's worth noting that the databooks state his favorite phrase is in fact "[[Manga/DeathNote Just as planned]]". He's also stated to be the "door master", generally with shoops showing him killing people by opening a door.
** For a time on [=GameFAQs=], a running joke on the ''Naruto'' boards claimed that the strongest person in the manga was [[EnsembleDarkhorse Iruka Umino]]. The man who did little more than get hit in the spine with a giant shuriken. Ironically, ''this is one of the reasons fans cite as him being near immortal'', as well as claiming that he possesses [[spoiler:the Rinnegan]] and can dual-wield two [[{{BFS}} BF Zabuza swords]], which are [[MemeticMutation memetically mutated]] into insanely powerful weapons of mass destruction which "cannot be beat" (based on an ad for a toy of one which accomplished the feat of ''tearing rice paper'').
** Einstein's original theory of relativity said: If Might Guy kicks you, your relatives will feel it. [[spoiler:Humorously, near the end of the manga, Might Guy unleashes a technique that ''bends space and time''.]]
** It is all part of Shikamaru's {{plan}}. [[GambitRoulette ALL of it; no matter how strange or farfetched]]. Its AllAccordingToPlan. An excerpt from [[http://www.narutoforums.com/showthread.php?t=424008 this thesis]] that meticulously details exactly ''why'' [[MemeticMutation Shikamaru is hot shit:]]
--->"8. Number Eight, He fucking moves shadows. Do you even understand that. Moves...Shadows. THEY ARE FUCKING SHADOWS. IF HE WANTED TO HE WOULD FUCKING TAKE THAT SHADOW ON THE MOON AND PULL THE EARTH AND MAKE A FUCKING EPIC COLLISION."
** And then there's [[TookALevelInBadass GARuto]]... His latest form, [[http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6CztPET-kCg/Tx_az9J45-I/AAAAAAAAACI/DWVIZuELtqQ/s1600/3019d851e50c537bef9415b49f229c49.png Tailed Beast Mode]], has a longrobe. Made of ''chakra.'' So far, no character has managed to look that awesome (and open a skyscraper-sized can of whoopass while doing so!).
** The Raikage was badass from the word "Go", and it now seems Kishimoto is trying to outdo himself each week. So far he's broken a table by accident, [[ThereWasADoor broken through a wall instead of taking the door]], tanking a Chidori with little more than a scratch, [[spoiler:nearly killed Sasuke]], survived Jugo's BeamSpam, punched through [[spoiler:Amaterasu to get to Sasuke (nearly killed him again!)]] and chopped his own burning arm off ''with his hand''. BAD. ASS. [[strike:[[AllThereInTheManual Dude doesn't even have a name yet]]]] [[OneLetterName His name is A]]. It's now generally accepted that his punches are nearing Falcon-level, and can solve pretty much anything. [[WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer ANYTHING]]. He also [[spoiler:broke the "Zabuza sword"]], and then he [[spoiler:decapitated Kisame, WITH HIS ARM! And not even his good arm (because he didn't have it anymore)!]]
** A gets it from his Badass father who faced 10000 shinobi '''BY HIMSELF''' for three days!!!
** The entire Hidden Cloud Village can be considered memetically badass, due to spawning a lot of badass ninjas (WordOfGod has actually stated they're tied for having the biggest army, and have ''the'' best economic strength), and everybody claims that their ninjas can [[spoiler:destroy a village with one pebble]], due to a joke that happened in Chapter 450 when someone from the Cloud Village thought they accidentally did exactly that.
** A more specific form of this is how some joke that Karin has "Kage level dodging skills" for how she was able to stand in middle of a battle against [[spoiler:multiple Kage]] without getting injured in the crossfire. It may also be called "Kage level survival skills" and also refer to how she was ''[[ManOnFire set on fire]]'' once ([[spoiler:and by [[HellFire Amaterasu]] fire to boot]]) and later getting [[PunchedAcrossTheRoom kicked across a bridge]] and hitting both the ground and a wall from about 50m in the air, again [[ConvectionSchmonvection with minimal]] [[MadeOfIron visible injury]], and then surviving [[spoiler:being impaled by a sword made of electricity.]]
** The Fanon said that, Tora the cat was said to be a descendant of Nibi the Demon Cat.
** Paperwork can defeat even the mightiest Kage.
** [[DrunkenBoxing Drunken]] Rock Lee is unstoppable; not even Madara can NoSell him.
** The real reason Kisame committed suicide is because he knew he could not stand a chance against Yamato's Headgear. Yamato's headgear is so badass, it is the only non-human/demon to receive any votes in the latest popularity contest.
** OF course, who could forget the REAL mastermind of the series, Ramen Guy Teuchi? For a while his name was thrown out there for contender of the 6th coffin, because Tobi had every right to be scared of his lethal godliness. Then when Tobi's identity was questioned, Ramen Guy was another contender because who else could orchestrate the series' events like this? No body would have seen the sharingan because he always squints. But that was thrown down because the fans got over their joke and agreed that Tobi couldn't be Ramen Guy. If he was, Tobi would have taken over the world LOOONNG ago.
** Hashirama is this in-universe for very, VERY, VEEERRRRRYYYY good reason.
** Some people joke that Tenten will be the hero of story, because she's THE minor character among the Konoha 11.
** Itachi has [[MindRape entered your mind]] the minute you start fighting him.
** In the short extra ''Anime/TheDayNarutoBecameHokage'', [[spoiler:Himawari Uzumaki]] became famous for [[spoiler:knocking out Naruto with one hit]]! RuleOfFunny was probably at work here, and Naruto obviously didn't want to hurt her, but that hasn't stopped [[http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:181699#161 fans from joking]] that she is now the most powerful character, or that she should have been the hero in ''Anime/BorutoNarutoTheMovie''.
* Jack Rakan in ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi''. In his case, the meme is mostly reserved for his awesome style rather than actual power. The actual power part of it left over is enough to break [[RealityWarper reality]] ''thrice'' just to BrightSlap Negi followed by some cheery advice. And the third one's the charm [[spoiler:because he came back to ''stay alive'' and joined the fight that was going on. Immediately. HE'S THAT BADASS!]]
* ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'':
** {{Fanon}} commonly elevates Gendo Ikari from TheChessmaster to literally omniscient, because, hell, ''[[GambitRoulette he might as well be]]''.
** Adding his [[ClaspYourHandsIfYouDeceive arms]] and ScaryShinyGlasses to anyone can make the victim a mysterious, creepy motherfucker.
** "[[WebVideo/EvangelionReDeath It's Gendo]]." *[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RsepQh342g cue music]]* Oh~ baby!
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PALxktAMw3I FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK...!]]
** [[MemeticMutation LIKE A BOSS!]]
** [[MemeticMutation GENDOWNED!]]
** He also has a lot of Chuck Norresque "facts". For example:
--->You are what you eat. The Commander's diet consists of the 14th Angel, bullets, and the tears of small children.
--->The Commander has never seduced a woman, as 'seduction' implies he had to work for it.
--->The Commander's paternal instincts have two settings -- 'Open fire' and 'Activate the [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Dummy Plug]]'.
--->The [[BeehiveBarrier AT Field]] is not for keeping the soul in. It is for keeping [[{{Determinator}} Commander Ikari]] ''out''.
--->Whenever the Commander makes love, he always uses a condom, not because it's "safe," but because the last time he horsed around ''without'' one, he let loose Second Impact.
** Curiously {{Inverted|Trope}} with his son, Shinji, who [[TraumaCongaLine despite (or, for some, because of) all the crap he deals with]] is known as a MemeticLoser. However, now that [[Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion Rebuild of Evangelion]] has come around, he's starting to get normal treatment with this trope as well.
* ''Manga/OnePiece'':
** After the Whitebeard War story arc, the fandom is now [[BrokenBase divided]] between those who apply this treatment to [[WorldsStrongestMan Whitebeard]], and those who apply it to Admiral Akainu.
** And [[FanNickname MANSOPP]]
*** Now overshadowed by ''GOD USOPP,'' the true mastermind behind the attack on the SMILE factory and the most dangerous member of the straw hat alliance.
** Nami also gets this treatment by the fan base. She's the only one who could beat the tar out of Luffy and get away with it, also actually being capable of hurting him, which no one could before the Amazon Arc. Oda also joined on in this, claiming she's beating up HIS SPIRIT!![[note]] Highly plausible, though, Haki is the physical form of spirit, and she might have Armament Haki dormantly [[/note]] Also, she pawned the Monster Trio in the Fishman Island Arc which none of the [[ArcVillain arc villains]] were able to do, with the Fandom claiming that she's the strongest Straw Hat who could beat the Emperors in seconds. And this badassery seems to be escalated when she managed to tame one of Big Mom's ''dragons'' and making him an ally of the Straw Hats.
** Also, [=PWNGoat=]. Just by virtue of being the fleet admiral Sengoku's pet fans jokingly attribute all kinds of super-powers to it ...
** Silvers Rayleigh '''swam the Calm Belt!'''
** Luffy has also somewhat gained this status, seeing as how Creator/EiichiroOda revealed that Luffy ''can'' stretch every part of his body...
*** Gear Third anybody? Hehehe...
** Anyone who carries the [[SecretLegacy Will of D]] in their name; fans don't know what it is, but since it's been pretty much outright stated to be very important to the MythArc in some way and pretty much every known carrier of it is a badass in their own right, it's become a fandom joke to add this to people's names (either completely ironically to weak characters who pretend that they're stronger than they really are, or jokingly to actually-strong characters who accomplish something awesome) to signify that they're clearly a highly important and kickass figure in the ''One Piece'' world. Just a few examples include "Buggy D. Clown" for Buggy the Clown, "Con D. Oriano" for filler character "Condoriano", and the below mentioned "Ma D. Monk" for "Mad Monk" Urouge.
%%** Mihawk as well.
** Shanks. All he has to do is look at you and you'll either: 1) back down, or 2) faint.
*** He's also the greatest mediator in all of anime & manga, if not fiction. How do you get a HopelessWar to end? Get Shanks to step in, let him say "This war is over", and no-one will dispute it.
** ''Buggy the Clown.'' After bullshitting his way through the entire Impel Down and Marineford arcs by gathering a following of notorious criminals, fighting alongside Luffy, Ivankov, Crocodile, Jimbei and all the other big names, revealing that he was on Gold Roger's crew and ''becoming a fucking Warlord,'' Buggy has been worshiped as the true main character of One Piece and the one who will become the Pirate King, if not the Pirate ''God''.
** "Mad Monk" Urouge got an ironic following after appearing to be the weakest of the Worst Generation, complete with the usual brags about his power. Post-timeskip, however, he proved to have taken a few levels in badass by actually defeating one of Big Mom's stronger subordinates. Cue full revival of the following, complete with the "Ma D. Monk" nickname and claims even [[WorldsStrongestMan Kaido]] fears him and actually jumped from that cloud to run away from him. Urogue giving Luffy TheWorfEffect in ''Anime/OnePieceStampede'' only helped matters.
** Charlotte Katakuri. Badass design. Badass powers. Badass Observation Haki. Voiced by Joseph Joestar and inspires PerverseSexualLust for his appearance. He’s such a MemeticBadass, a lot of the fanbase were genuinely [[RootingForTheEmpire rooting for Katakuri]] in his fight with Luffy.
** Stealth Black/Soba Mask, Sanji’s HenshinHero. A heroic contender to Sogeking or even Great Saiyanman, the protector of soba stands and the naked women of the public bath house, wrecker of dinosaurs and so badass even the stoic Law and X-Drake fanboy over him InUniverse. This along with some [[ThemeMusicPowerUp awesome theme music]] made Soba Mask be considered by some of the fanbase to be more badass than even his real identity Sanji.
** Kozuki Oden “The Chad” who started the “Harem Wars”. Utterly idolised by the fanbase from the moment he appeared casually using a man’s cremation to boil his food and only got more fan worship when he fought Whitebeard and held all nine of his men above his head while being boiled alive, which wasn’t enough to kill him. Oden is considered the ultimate badass fusion of Luffy, Zoro and Sanji’s best traits, most epic flashback character and One Piece’s equivalent to WesternAnimation/SamuraiJack.
* ''Webcomic/OnePunchMan'':
** Saitama, the eponymous character. He [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin only needs one punch]] to beat '''''ANYONE'''''. In particular, on VS forums, just 'one punch' is the answer to many debates involving him. Hilariously, while it's [[DudeWheresMyRespect not a status he has in-universe]], it's gotten to such a point that he rivals even '''''Chuck Norris''''' and '''''Captain Falcon''''' as the biggest Memetic Badass ''of all time''.
** There is also King, who routinely beats Saitama[[note]]at video games[[/note]] and can beat any opponent with his luck, even defeating monsters without even fighting them, thus making him 'Zero Punch Man'.
** Mumen Rider is also considered a badass for his [[HeroicResolve Determinator]] attributes
** Various gag characters, like the mosquito that Saitama failed to smash, the cat that scratched his face, and the Hotdog Man monster, are also given this treatment by the fandom sometimes.
* ''Anime/{{Penguindrum}}'': Kanba Takakura will kill Gods and Goddesses and all that stands in his way [[MemeticMutation FOR HIMARI'S SAKE!!]]
* ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'':
** GARY MOTHERFUCKING OAK... was here, Ash is a loser. [[http://www.halolz.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/halolz-dot-com-pokemontvshow-garyfuckingoak-motivational.jpg There are 8 badges to earn in Kanto]], but he somehow earned ''ten'' of them. And then he went to try and earn one more.
** Ash's Buizel is another example. As one forum put it, "WATCHA GONNA DO WHEN BUIZELMANIA RUNS WILD ON YOU!?!"
** Tobias, in a rather tongue-in-cheek manner. We know he has two Legendaries and curbstomps everyone, so people joke that he also has ridiculous things, such as a shiny Arceus.
** Giovanni. Whatever he does, is done LIKE A BOSS!.
** Alain, due to his strong track record, more mature attitude and the fact that he defeated Ash's [[SuperMode Ash-Greninja]] and won the Pokemon League despite not really even caring that much about the League itself. This has morphed by fans into making him stronger than every trainer and being able to defeat legends, and saying that he'll take over the show and be the new main character, stealing away Ash's ImpliedLoveInterest Serena on the side by being such an impressive battler.
** The recurring Bewear that replaces Team Rocket's "blasting off" RunningGag in the ''Sun and Moon'' series, for its ability to show up ''anywhere'' to whisk them away, pulling feats such as hopping across high rooftops and running on water in the process. Nicknames such as "Ninja Teddy Jesus" have been making the rounds.
** Ash’s Lycanroc began getting this treatment when it became the Pokémon which finally [[spoiler:won Ash a League]]. Some fans even produced memes about Ash ditching Greninja for it.
* [[CharacterTitle Princess Tutu]] the character may have not yet reached memetic badass status, but ''Anime/PrincessTutu'' the ''series'' has. There's something to be said about the fact that the [[RatedMForManly testosterone-laden cesspit]] of ''Platform/FourChan'' not only respects a MagicalGirl series about ballet, but affectionately nicknames it ''[[http://www.lurkmore.com/wiki/Guitar_Ninjas Guitar Ninjas]]''. (Ads on site are NSFW)
* ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'':
** Homura is a CrazyPrepared badass packing heat who can still find time to flip her hair while she kicks witch ass.
** Junko Kaname is a Memetic BadassNormal. She's among the few characters (from all media) the fandom assumes can take on Homura on even footing in fanart.
* Commander Kuunugi from ''Anime/RahXephon'' is an in-universe and out-of-universe example. He buries Mulians under the trees in his garden.
* ''Literature/RecordOfGrancrestWar'' ends with Theo [[spoiler:becoming Emperor]], but fans [[http://boards.4chan.org/a/thread/170583220#p170602690 praise him]] as "Theo-sama", destroyer of oppressors, greater than George Washington, etc, even in response to episodes where he's "just" an unusually badass warlord.
* ''Manga/RecordOfRagnarok'':
** As far as fans are concerned, the frog-like being that gives Raiden salt to start his battle against [[Myth/HinduMythology Shiva]] (referred to as "[[FanNickname Salt Frog]]" by fans) is a supreme god that even [[Myth/ClassicalMythology Zeus]] doesn't stand a chance against.
** Despite not participating in Ragnarok and seemingly not possessing any of the abilities he's known for, fan like to portray UsefulNotes/{{Jesus}} as one of the most powerful beings in the series.
* Orion Eden in ''Anime/SaintSeiyaOmega''. [[spoiler:He was capable of curb-stomping one of the strongest Gold Saints in the entire series. He only needed to pull one Orion Devastation and it sent Virgo Fudou flying like a kite. In fact, Eden and Phoenix Ikki (of whom Eden is an expy) pretty much curb-stomp every battle they're in.]]
* [[TheScrappy Makoto]] from ''Anime/SchoolDays'' is dubbed Man-koto and jokingly worshiped on a certain image board for attracting and banging pretty much anything female in the cast without hesitation or mercy. If you count the games, this includes the mothers, sisters, and several threesomes. He [[strike:''doesn't'' get away with this in the end]] [[LaserGuidedKarma pays for his actions]] ([[MultipleEndings some]][[EarnYourHappyEnding times]]) and is hardly an admirable character, but that's why this is ''Memetic'' Badass.
* Vy Low a.k.a. Scarface from ''Manga/ShadowSkill''. He killed a giant evil werewolf by looking at it, to death.
* In ''Literature/{{Slayers}}'' the main character, Lina Inverse, often finds that her reputation as a violent, cruel, infinitely powerful sorceress has preceded her: often just the rumor that she's in town can reduce entire populations into terrified, quivering wrecks. Of course, when she's banking on her reputation producing that effect, no one has heard of her. More precisely, no one has heard of the "Beautiful Genius Sorceress, Lina Inverse". ''Everybody'' has heard of "Lina Inverse, Dragon Spooker and the Enemy Of All Who Live".
* Tezca Tlipoca from ''Manga/SoulEater''. Not only is he able to defeat Medusa and Justin Law AT THE SAME TIME (and then being able to track down Justin Law) but he also wears A FUCKING BEAR MASK AND A TUXEDO! You can't get more badass than that.
** And HE WILL NEVER DIE!!!!
** Black☆Star has surpassed GOD!!!
** FOOLS! Excalibur's legend began in the 12th century!
* Over Justice, the two dimensional hammy flaming skeleton space cop from ''Anime/SpacePatrolLuluco''. His obsession with Justice and the law make him a god amongst men and aliens, and his burning justice utterly incinerates [[spoiler:the Life Fibers from Anime/KillLaKill]]. He's just that devoted.
%%* ''Anime/SpeedRacer'': Inspector Detector is a demon ''on foot''. And he's '''''insane'''''.
%%* ''Manga/SquidGirl'': Chizuru. You don't want her to open her eyes.
* Manga/{{Zeorymer}} of the Heavens is this thanks to its [[StuffBlowingUp explosion-themed powers]], [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic ominous theme song]], and [[GameBreaker overpoweredness]] in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars''. [[DesignatedHero The pilot]], not so much.
* ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann'':
** The reputation of [[BadassCrew Team Gurren]] echoes far and wide! When they talk about its badass leader, the man of indomitable spirit and paragon of masculinity, they're talkin' about none other than '''''THE MIGHTY KAMINA!!!'''''\
\
Adding his [[TriangleShades shades]] to [[MemeticMutation any photo]]= instant badass! And... guess whose picture that is on the top of this page: KAMINA!!\
\
To prove this point: In the first episode, he squared off against a HumongousMecha. With only a ''[[KatanasAreJustBetter katana]]''. The kicker: WordOfGod states that, even without Yoko or Simon's help, '''He would've won!''' \
\
Later, he [[spoiler:was killed. [[NormallyIWouldBeDeadNow Got up.]] and then ''avenged himself!'']]
** Simon's presence makes enemy units explode out of his sheer awesomeness. [[spoiler:He ''invented'' teleportation just to give a friend a GetAHoldOfYourselfMan punch. When given the option of either his woman or the universe, he chooses both and uses his awesomeness to back it up.]]
** Ironic inversion: [[spoiler:Lordgenome]] ''is'' as powerful as many {{Memetic Badass}}es have been made out to be: [[spoiler:when his mech gets beaten in a BeamOWar by Simon's MiniMecha, he climbs out of it and ''punches the other mech in the face and fistfights it'' (''without'' [[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam a scarf, no less]])]]; later, he [[spoiler:makes an epic HeroicSacrifice by ''recreating his mech out of nowhere'', catching ''a Big Bang'', and converting it and himself into a crapload of raw power for the heroes]]. While he maintains a cult following thanks to his rugged good looks and [[WalkingShirtlessScene shirtlessness]], he rarely sees the same treatment other characters do.
** Additionally, [[FanNickname Bruce Ironstaunch]]. While he only appears briefly as a crowd extra during Rossiu's speech about [[spoiler:executing Simon]], he instantly was raised to this status among Westerners due to the fact that he's seen making [[BicepPolishingGesture a gesture]] that indicates approval in Japan, but just the opposite in the West. [[spoiler:And hey, Rossiu ''deserved'' it.]] In fact, fans have declared that he was the one who [[spoiler:threw a rock at him]] shortly after.
* For Vash the Stampede in ''Manga/{{Trigun}}'', this is actually a ''bad'' thing. He has powerful enemies and despite the fact that the man himself is a MartialPacifist (with a heaping helping of ObfuscatingStupidity ) the fact that cities and towns tend to be destroyed wherever he goes gives him a terrible reputation for destruction, and that reputation only serves to heighten the destruction and madness that surrounds him.
** To add to the badassery, he's voiced by Creator/JohnnyYongBosch. Yes, [[Series/MightyMorphinPowerRangers that one]].
* ''Anime/UminekoWhenTheyCry'':
** Rosa Ushiromiya. She acquired the FanNickname "Rosa Musou" (Invincible Rosa), after she [[spoiler:fought off tons of magical goat-butlers who killed the rest of her family with a sawed-off rifle, a purse with a bar of gold inside and a ''fountain pen''.]]
** After [=EP7=], we have WILL MOTHERFUCKING WRIGHT. Notable feats include [[spoiler:being able to stand up to Bernkastel,]] facing off an army of demonic cats with an arm missing while protecting Lion, [[spoiler:returning in [=EP8=] with his arm fully healed, and HEADBUTTING A GOAT BUTLER TO DEATH. Just because he insulted the mystery genre!]]
* Exodia from ''Anime/YuGiOh'', noted as the only being capable of frightening [[IAmLegion Anonymous]].
** Rex Godwin from ''Anime/YuGiOh5Ds'' is quickly headed in this direction on the online game Duel Monsters Unlimited following the [[http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dcwACASAiVc first twenty seconds of this vid.]]
*** Jack Atlas from the same series gets a lot of this, too, to the point where it is said he demands his name be written JACK ATLAS. He [[spoiler:gets his new trump monster by telling an Eldritch Abomination that it's now his bitch, and that there's nothing it can do or say about it.]]
** Yami Yugi wins every game ever, even games that he is not currently playing.
** Seto Kaiba fully ascended to this after ''Anime/YuGiOhTheDarkSideOfDimensions'', though he'd been on the border for a while. After it became canon that he bought entire cities, built a space station shaped like his company's logo, invented cyberspace, shrugged off being absorbed into a HiveMind, broke his way into the afterlife, and shaped the face of culture for generations, there's really not much for the fans to add. It's become very common for fans to big him up even further, claiming him to be probably the most intelligent and wealthy individual to ever exist, and noting that every single series, conflict, and idea in the franchise can be traced to one man's salty runback.
** ''Anime/YuGiOhArcV'' has quite the fondness for its {{Anti Hero}}es.
*** Kurosaki Shun. His debut duel was a OTK against three people with a blazing machine falcon with '''''[[NoKillLikeOverkill 16.400 attack points]]'''''. And it got better. Not to mention how he's a literal OneManArmy even in a fist fight. Eventually he got a reputation in the fandom akin to Batman.
*** Another guy compared to Batman is Akaba Reiji. [[TheChessmaster Everything always goes according to his plan]], his deck is pure awesome, and he's a spectacular ColdHam.
*** And JACK ATLAS is back for more.
*** Kurosaki Ruri sure follows her brother's footsteps. She gook Shun's WeakButSkilled ZergRush deck up to eleven, ''won'' her [[FightingFromTheInside battle from the inside]] and only lost against Shun because she forfeited the match. On top of that, her secret Boss Monster [[spoiler:Independent Nightingale]] became an infamous card in the meta for its GameBreaker combo with the Tyrant Neptune and Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom.
* In a rather bizzare example, the Iguan from ''Franchise/{{Zoids}}'' was elevated to badassery on both sides of the Pacific in different ways. In the US, "Iguan" became a stock answer for any stock stupid question, starting with "What Zoid is the most powerful" and going downhill from there. It became a meme in the fandom that Iguan was the most powerful Zoid ever, that it could destroy anything with its mighty Iguan Kick and so forth. Meanwhile, in Japan, Iguan became a fan favourite in fanart and kitbashes, depicting its rival with the Godos as the greatest and deadliest rivalry of any Zoids (and helping to escalate the Godos to similar standards). The kicker? The two memes appear to be entirely unrelated, which seems to make Iguan's badassery even more so. For the record, Iguan is a small and innocuous generic mook Zoid that never appeared in any of the anime, and only rarely appears in licenced media. The toys then added to Iguan's badassery in two ways:
** First came the Lizar from the 80's American ''Technozoids'' line. A recolour of the Iguan, Lizar was never released and is only known from a pair(?) of prototypes, making it something of a legend in the toy collecting community.
** Then, in 2008, Tomy-Takara released the limited edition "Dark Iguan", an in-world badass upgrade.
* ''Anime/ZombieLandSaga'': The "Legendary" [[Characters/ZombieLandSagaFranchouchou Tae Yamada]]. Whereas the other girls’ titles explain why they’re legendary (“Legendary Biker Boss: Saki Nikaido”, “Legendary Heisei Idol: Ai Mizuno”, etc.), Tae's does not. Thus, viewers take her and every little thing she does to simply ''be'' legendary. Adding fuel to the fire was the later revelation that she is played by a real-life legend in the anime industry, Creator/KotonoMitsuishi, who voiced the title character of the ground-breakingly popular ''Anime/SailorMoon'' series.
