'''''WARNING: {{Late Arrival Spoiler}}s abound for Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi.'''''

In the year 2086, magic is already a fact of life, having been revealed ten years earlier, allowing for an acceleration of technological progress culminating in the creation of [[StarScraper a massive skyscraper that literally pierces the heavens]].

Touta Konoe is one such boy who dreams of scaling it and finding out what lies atop that tower. His mentor/guardian Yukihime claims it can only be crossed if he can defeat her, a feat nigh-impossible but something he will nonetheless try.

One day, however, a bounty hunter mortally wounds him, forcing his target, Yukihime, to reveal herself as Evangeline A.K. [=McDowell=], the notorious daylight-walking vampire who was also the friend and mentor of his supposedly-deceased grandfather: Negi Springfield, the boy-mage who saved the Magic World seventy-five years ago. To save his life and honor a request from his dying parents, she transforms him into a vampire.

Despite what Yukihime/Evangeline warns is a life of solitude, Touta is more than willing to journey into a world of immortals in a society where the line between magic and technology have become blurred.

''UQ Holder!'' (aka ユーキューホルダー!, or "Eternity Holder!") is the sequel of ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'' by Creator/KenAkamatsu. Set 75 years after the end of ''Negima!'', in an AlternateTimeline, it explores a number of ambiguous or unexplored details left at the end of that series, such as the space elevator and the adoption of magic on earth. The story began serialization in ''[[Magazine/ShonenMagazine Weekly Shonen Magazine]]'' in late August of 2013, and later moved to ''Bessatsu Shonen Magazine'' in October 2016. In November 2016, the manga was retitled ''UQ Holder!: Magister Negi Magi 2'', more or less confirming its sequel connection to ''Negima!''. In February 2022, the manga officially concluded with its 192nd chapter, coinciding with the start of Akamatsu's parliamentary campaign.

''UQ Holder!'' is one of the first round of manga to be [[http://www.crunchyroll.com/comics/manga/uq-holder/volumes simultaneously published]] on Website/{{Crunchyroll}}.

The series received an AnimatedAdaptation By Creator/JCStaff in Fall 2017.

----
!!''UQ Holder!'' provides examples of:

* TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture: The series is set in the 2086, 76 years after ''Negima'''s ending, but 50 years before [[spoiler:the world Asuna's wakes up in]] within the same series.
* AbortedArc: The [[TournamentArc Mahora Martial Arts Tournament arc]] got hijacked and discarded ''twice''.
** First, Touta's group teams up with Afro to participate on the preliminaries until Yukihime's former teacher Dana shows up out of nowhere to take Touta and his friends to the VoidBetweenTheWorlds for some TrainingFromHell. From that point on, the manga abruptly becomes focused on Touta's TimeTravelRomance with a Yukihime from the Middle Ages that happened to also be at Dana's castle and the tournament preliminaries arc is never reassumed.
** Later on, Touta gets on the actual tournament to go to the top of the SpaceElevator in the finals. Then the Lifemaker's faction drops in at the end of Touta's harem's swimsuit race so they can attempt to kidnap Touta. Afterwards, the Mahora tournament storyline is abandoned completely.
* AccidentalKiss: As Touta tries to stop Kirie from committing suicide over lost money, she ends up on top of him in lip lock. It was also her FirstKiss. It happens again a few chapters later to reveal that Kirie kissing Touta can [[TimeStandsStill freeze time]] even if her save point isn't damaged.
* AdaptationalBadass: [[{{Downplayed|Trope}} Downplayed]] with Kuromaru's feminine body in Episode 6, while it's still weaker than his normal body, the loss of power is lesser in context than in the manga where by that point Kuromaru had already passed through Dana's TrainingFromHell.
* AdaptationalCurves: In the anime, many of the girls in 3-A are curvier than they are normally, it's especially noticeable when Negi blows their clothes off and a number of the more flat-chested girls (Natsumi, Konoka, etc) are considerably bigger.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: The anime adaptation takes various elements from the manga that don't happen until much, much later, [[Administrivia/TropesAreTools most likely to keep pacing in a steady level]].
** The very first moments... are a flashback to the time of Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi, from Chapter 129, [[spoiler: completely omitting that Touta was there as well,]] as a bit of fanservice before the [[PlayerPunch Viewer Punch]] that is Evangeline leaving them seemingly forever.
** Shinobu's introduction is a [[{{Zigzagged|Trope}} zigzagged]] version: in the anime, she first appears as a maid in Episode 3 and is shown as already working for UQ Holder while originally she appeared before Touta met Kuromaru (Episode 2) [[PutOnABus to disappear]] [[TheBusCameBack and reappear]] ninety chapters later and only then does she start working for UQ Holder as a maid.
** Episode 6 adapts Kuromaru's date with Touta and the later fight from chapters 101 to 103 while keeping some elements from earlier chapters like Kuromaru telling Karin he has no defined gender yet. [[PromotedToLoveInterest His development of his crush on Touta]] is also rushed several chapters due to Shinobu's interactions with Touta.
** Cutlass makes a brief appearance in Episode 8 while Touta and company wait for Fate to show up.
* AdaptationExpansion: The first episode of the anime adds a couple of brief visions of Negi that only Touta can see which tell him that he waits for him at the top of the SpaceElevator, this serves both as a subtle CallBack to Negima and [[AdaptationalContextChange to give a deeper reason for Touta to go to the Capital]].
* AdvancedAncientAcropolis: According to the High Daylight Walker Nikitis Laps, there was a super advanced {{Magitek}} civilization in the planet Venus over 12,000 years ago. They ended up destroying themselves through wars over immortality. [[spoiler:The survivors got tossed into an alternate plane called Inverse Venus, which eventually became known as the Demon World. This is where demons like Zazie Rainday and the High Daylight Walkers come from.]]
* AllPowerfulBystander: The True Pure-blood Vampires mentioned in chapter 77 are incredibly powerful and ancient beings -- so ancient, that most of them have stopped giving a crap about anything and are completely cut off from the rest of the world.
* AlternateTimeline: The series is eventually revealed to take place in a timeline where the GoldenEnding of ''Mahou Sensei Negima'' did ''not'' take place: [[spoiler:Asuna was not brought back in time, and the Mage of the Beginning was not defeated by Negi and his comrades]]. Touta {{Lampshades}} this when seeing a vision of ''Negima's'' ending, saying that in such a world [[spoiler:he would never have been created]].
* AlternateUniverse: In Chapter 184, [[spoiler:Kirie]] mentions that she was sent to an alternate universe. [[spoiler:It's all but directly stated to be the universe that we currently live in, being the year 2021 and how there's a virus currently plaguing the world]].
* AndIMustScream: With a lot of characters being immortal, this trope is surprisingly rare in the series, as though some characters are put out of commission for a long time (like three cases of {{Transflormation}}, and two of {{HumanPopsicle}}, they're usually not conscious during those times. Or if they are, they don't seem to care much for it, like Jinbei being "forgotten" in solitary confinement for [[TimeDissonance two years]] for stealing a piece of pudding. Except for one notable example. [[spoiler: In chapter 182, it is revealed that Karin has been flung into outer space at 0.1 Cee, and been flying at that speed for 43 years alone in space During that time, she slowly falls into despair and madness before resigning herself to her fate. However, 43 years is exactly enough time for her to reach the closest star, Alpha Centauri, and nearly falling into said star. It is notable that while her body is entirely indestructible, she still feels everything, meaning what awaits her is an eternity of being burnt alive at ludicrous heat for billions of years, [[FateWorseThanDeath ''and remain perfectly awake and conscious for it all''.]]]]
* AndTheAdventureContinues: The manga ends this way. [[spoiler:While the threat of Ialda is completely removed and the universe is prospering, there's still problems to solve and injustices to fight. Because of that, Touta continues to fight for the protection of mortals.]]
* AnywhereButTheirLips: Touta kisses Kirie in the cheek after reaffirming his promise to never betray her in chapter 169.
* TheApocalypseBringsOutTheBestInPeople: Lampshaded by the good guys when they note the local school bully is surprisingly cooperative during Sayoko's ZombieApocalypse, and then goes back to being a {{Jerkass}} when Kirie rewinds time.
* ArcWords: "Keep moving forward" and "a little bit of courage is the real magic", the ArcWords from ''Negima'', show up here as well.
* ArtisticLicensePhysics [[ArtisticLicenseEngineering & Engineering]]: Locating a space elevator in Tokyo (or Japan period) is problematic since centrifugal force from Earth's rotation is critical to such designs, so an equatorial location is required and Japan is too far north. Though given the strong presence of {{Magitek}}, it can be brushed off as AWizardDidIt.
* AvengersAssemble: [[spoiler: In chapter 191, UQ Holder and the newly freed Ala Alba and Ala Rubra, all gather and charge into the FinalBattle against Ialda and her army]].
* BabiesEverAfter: [[spoiler: In the epilogue, it's revealed that Negi had fathered children with his surviving Ala Alba comrades. A son with Asuna, and daughters with Chisame, Nodoka, and Yue. Konoka and Setsuna appear to have two daughters of their own.]]
* BadassCrew:
** [[TeamTitle UQ Holder]], an organization made up of immortal humans, vampires, robots, demons, gods, and various other monsters. One of their duties is to help and protect the various friendly monsters that may be targeted by hate and/or monster hunting groups.
** Another one was shown in a flashback 20 years prior to the series: one consisting of Evangeline, [[spoiler:Negi, Fate, Albireo, Chachamaru, Mana and Zazie, all pursuing the Mage of the Beginning yet again.]]
* BadassFamily: Touta Konoe, grandson of Negi Springfield, great-grandson of Nagi Springfield both famous for saving the [[spoiler: Magic World]] among other outstanding feats. Not to mention the fact that he was adopted by [[TheDreaded Evangeline A.K. McDowell]].
* BadDate: Twice, between Touta and Kuroumaru.
** First, Kuroumaru's date with Touta as "Kuryu" gets ruined when both are attacked by Xingzai Chao and Asura Tu.
** Several chapters later, Touta and Kuroumaru try going on a date again. All seems to be going well until Kuroumaru's older brother shows up with the mercenaries Nagumo and Tsukuyomi, having come to capture Kuroumaru before the Tougen Shinmei School do.
* BadFuture: As revealed in chapter 137, the whole UQ timeline could be considered this, [[spoiler:as it takes place in a different "world line" than the "happy end" where [[ForWantOfANail Asuna was brought back in time at the end of the previous series, which in turn allowed her to avert the chain of events that turned Negi into the Mage of the Beginning]]. Tota even notes that he would be unnecessary in that world.]]
* BaitAndSwitch: In chapter 136, the other members of UQ Holder send Touta and Kirie out on a date in Kyoto, with Karin prodding Kirie to use the chance and go all the way with Touta. At the end of the day, Touta and Kirie go into the bathtub together, Touta says they're going all the way... And just kisses her because he ''doesn't even know what sex is''. Kirie spends the rest of the night giving him TheTalk.
* BalancedHarem: After the GenreShift to HaremGenre, the main three immortal girls get the same number of ShipTease chapters with Touta, usually one right after another. Although, there was [[SpotlightStealingSquad way too much focus]] on [[{{Tsundere}} Kirie]] for a while. There's also two mortal girls crushing on Touta who are around for gags.
* BarbieDollAnatomy: As standard for a Creator/KenAkamatsu manga, even though you see the characters naked often, their bodies have the anatomical detail of Barbie dolls. After the series shifts to monthly, the female characters start having visible nipples and cases of MaleFrontalNudity, even if they are only outlines and not drawn in detail.
* BareHandedBladeBlock: In chapter 3, Yukihime stops Kuroumaru's blade with only her fingers.
* BathtubBonding:
** Whenever Touta and Kuroumaru have a bonding moment that gets them closer, including their Pactio [[spoiler:and mutual love confession]], they're taking a bath together.
** At the end of their "date" in chapter 136, Kirie invites Touta to join her in the bathtub and again in chapter 184 [[spoiler: after they have sex from the first time (and a lot of it) in her kitchen]].
* BattleHarem: More of a subversion. All the immortal girls of UQ Holder take an interest in Touta and eventually form Pactios with him, but they don't really get to fight alongside him and haven't made use of the Artifacts they got from him for battle.
* BigDamnHeroes:
** Yukihime shows up with three of the high-ranking memebers of UQ Holder in order to save Touta in Chapter 28.
** Kuroumaru, Kirie, and Santa arrive to save Touta from his evil sister in Chapter 71.
** [[spoiler:Touta walks into a trap of the evil demons he has been fighting for two years and is completely cornered by them, only for Kuroumaru along with the other surviving Numbers to show up and rescue him]] in Chapter 178.
* TheBigDamnKiss:
** [[spoiler:Touta and Kuroumaru]] share a passionate UnderwaterKiss that covers a double-page spread in Chapter 181. Bonus points for [[spoiler:the kiss happening during sex]].
** [[spoiler:In chapter 182, Touta and Karin kiss to celebrate their RelationshipUpgrade as they make love among the stars.]]
** [[spoiler:In chapter 184, Touta and an older, depowered Kirie share a long kiss after affirming their love for one another. Since Kirie had lost her time powers prior to this., it is the first kiss they shared that doesn't trigger a Timefreeze.]]
** The series [[SealedWithAKiss ends]] with [[spoiler:An OlderAndWiser Touta and a newly reborn Evangeline having a romantic kiss near the water.]]
* BigDamnReunion: The end of chapter 178 shows the reunion between [[spoiler:Touta and Kuroumaru]] after they were apart for 45 years. Cue TearsOfJoy from both.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Mr. Tachibana looks like a friendly, helpful guy, but he actually set up Yukihime's students to depower her so he could leap in to grab her bounty. Just so that it's clear that he's definitely a bad guy, he even makes it clear that he intends to kill all five of them as well.
* BloodierAndGorier: While ''Negima'' was never a BloodlessCarnage, it was more sedated compared to ''UQ Holder''. Getting impaled, dismembered and even decapitated happens here almost all the time. [[ImmortalLifeIsCheap Courtesy of large portion of the cast being immortal.]]
* BoyMeetsGhoul: Santa died because of bullying, but his girlfriend turned out to be a ghost and she turned him into a ghost too through {{Necromancy}}.
* BreastExpansion: Yukihime joins the ranks of [[Manga/LoveHina Kanako]], [[Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi Asuna, Nodoka, and Anya]] in getting breast expansion inflicted upon her. Twice. Along with expanding her butt and enlarging her torso to resemble a fertility goddess. What's different compared to most of the previous examples is this expansion appears to be actual breast tissue, not just air. This actually worries Fate, since the one who did this to Yukihime easily tore through Yukihime's formidable magical defenses in the process.
* BridalCarry:
** After Kuroumaru's body is ripped in half by Kaito, Touta carries Kuroumaru bridal style until Kuroumaru's legs grow back.
** Kuroumaru returns the gesture by carrying Touta in the same way when they're running away from monsters in chapter 180.
* BurnTheWitch: According to Xingzai Chao, Karin was burned at the stake once in the Middle Ages when she was captured by some villagers who accused her of being a witch.
* TheBusCameBack: After 93 chapters, Shinobu, the girl that Touta befriended in Chapter 2, has reappeared, arriving in the capital.
* BustContrastDuo: In the female Numbers, we have Kirie, the flat-chested {{Tsundere}} with ACupAngst and Karin, the MsFanservice with big boobs.
* CallBack:
** Along with the ArcWords above, the age changing pills makes a return in chapter 2 as a sort of off-hand response to Touta's woes about [[BlessedWithSuck not being able to grow up past fourteen]].
** Remember when Eva was cursed to remain within the confines of Mahora Academy before the main story of Negima? Chapter 10 has her leaving Jinbee underground about 2 years before the start of the story.
** The underground mansion used by Albireo in Negima reappears in the underground cavern used by UQ Holder.
** Most of [[Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi Class 3-A]] appears walking with Evangeline in the opening pages. As they wave good bye to her in the following panel, each character is wearing the clothes they were last seen with at the end of the previous manga.
** The Mahora Martial Arts Tournament makes a return, this time open to the public. A video reveals the winners of the 2015 tournament were [[spoiler:Ku Fei and Yue Ayase]].
** In Chapter 75, Touta gets his butt handed to him by a demon (one of the bounty hunters Negi fought in the previous series in fact). After beating Tota, his opponent then takes a page from Rakan's book and tells Tota he should come up with a finishing move.
** Later on in the series, Touta fights a high level lightning daemon-implied to be the same one that Jack Rakan mentioned fighting back in Negima. This is shortly after Rakan appears in an imagine spot from Kirie.
** Shinobu arrives at Fairyland Hall and is chased in a direct parallel to Keitaro's arrival at Hinata inn.
** In chapter 136, Touta and Kirie visit most of the places that Class 3-A went during the Kyoto Arc.
* CatchAFallingStar: At the start of chapter 170, Touta and his blood clones catch Kuroumaru, Honoka, and Isana midair after they fall from [[FloatingContinent New Ostia]].
* CaughtTheHeartOnHisSleeve: Kuroumaru (as "Kuryu") does a variation by grabbing Touta's apron (jacket in the anime) during their "date".
* CerebusRollercoaster: The series can go from murder attempts, to high-school hi-jinks, to a zombie apocalypse, to fanservice-heavy bathhouse antics in a single arc.
* ChainmailBikini: Non-combative version. When entering in a hoverbike race, everyone is wearing swimsuits rather than protective gear (though the do wear helmets). [[LampshadeHanging Kirie points out how dangerous that is]], only for Mizore to inform her that, due to the use of magical protection in clothing, the current trend is to see [[RefugeInAudacity how skimpy people can make the outfits and get away with it]]. Plus, if the outfits fly off, it'll just boost the popularity of the race, so the sponsors are all for it.
* ChekhovsGun: A fifteen year long one. [[spoiler:At the beginning of ''Negima'', Negi knew nine spells, the last of which was never revealed during the course of the series. Turns out that it was a high level spell that Nagi (then later on Negi) used to seal himself after he was possessed by the Lifemaker.]]
* CityOfAdventure: Neo-Tokyo, where the Mahora Martial Arts Tournament Preliminaries are underway all year long. You can pick a fight with anyone anywhere as long as they're competitors.
* ClothingDamage: Just like in ''Negima'', it's rare for the characters to have a fight where they come out with their clothes intact.
* ColorMotif: The Pactio cards, like in ''Negima'', give a color to represent the Ministra. In the cards seen here there's violet for Yukihime, white and black for Kuroumaru, yellow for Karin, purple for Kirie, white for Ikkuu, black for Santa, and gold for Mizore.
* ComfortingComforter:
** In chapter 83, Touta finds Kitty sleeping on a railing and covers her body with a cloth.
** Chapter 159 has a brief ShipTease moment where Touta covers a sleeping Kuroumaru with a blanket.
* CompressedAdaptation: The anime adaptation takes the material of thirteen and a half volumes and attempts to compress it into a TwelveEpisodeAnime, unsurprisingly shortening events and cutting out entire arcs and characters in the process.
* ConfessionTriggersConsummation:
** [[spoiler: In chapter 181, Touta has sex with Kuroumaru right after they confess their mutual feelings for each other.]]
** [[spoiler:Happens again the chapter after the above when Karin admits her feelings for Touta after he rescues her from the vacuum of space.]]
* ContinuityCameo:
** Ku Fei and Yue make an appearance in a video of an old Mahora Martial Arts Tournament.
** Morborgran from Canis Niger faced off against Touta in the Underground preliminaries for the Mahora Martial Arts Tournament. Chiko-tan later shows up as a guest at Fairyland Hall.
** Whenever Touta talks about how powerful the ability to [[TimeStandsStill stop time]] is, the Cassiopeia appears behind him.
** Touta and Yukihime had a doll that looked suspiciously like Chachazero back in the first chapter.
* CoolAirship: The Akashic Skywheel is an airship left behind by the lost civilization of Venus. After the Numbers find it hidden at rift between dimensions, it serves as the Numbers' base of operations in the 45-year TimeSkip. As it's said to be capable of space travel, it also doubles as a CoolStarship.
* CooldownHug:
** In Chapter 155, after Karin recounts to Touta her history with Yukihime, she brings up the failed pactio with Yukihime from earlier that day, and cries in despair, taking it as a sign that Yukihime isn't deserving of salvation. Touta, seeing her distress, hugs her. Karin accepts the embrace and calms down soon after.
** In Chapter 181, Kuroumaru has an emotional breakdown over [[spoiler:doing nothing but fight without Touta for 45 years]] and in her moment of vulnerability, indirectly asks Touta for sex. Realizing the implications of what she said, Kuroumaru freaks out and tries to run away from Touta. Touta grabs Kuroumaru and holds her in his arms to calm her down.
** In Chapter 182, Karin, having broken down completely when faced with [[spoiler:the reality of everlasting torment of being drawn into in a sun sized star]], suddenly sees Touta again after so long, once she confirms him to be the real deal, she begins to weep profusely in joy and relief. Touta pulls her into a hug and reassures her it's going to be okay, he's come to save her.
* CosmicMotifs: Like in ''Negima'', the Pactio cards give a cosmic symbol for each Ministra. Here we get: Pluto for Yukihime, Uranus for Kuroumaru, Venus for Karin and Mizore, and Saturn for Kirie.
* CryIntoChest: After [[spoiler:failing to defeat Nagi Ialda and losing his closest comrades-in-arms and Chisame, the [[HeroicBSOD depressed Negi]] walks to Eva's cottage and cries his heart out into her chest.]]
* CulturalCrossReference: In chapter 2, Touta states that his big dream is to sing... with the same style as Music/LouisArmstrong.
* CurbStompBattle:
** Fate delivers one to the Numbers in an alternate future, taking out Touta, Kuroumaru, Karin, and Ikkuu and petrifying Kirie. She only managed to go back in time by slashing her own throat before the petrification finished, allowing her [[SavePoint immortality to trigger]].
** Cutlass beats Touta so badly that it went straight through his HealingFactor and left him on death's door until his friends showed up.
** Touta and his team, Afro UQ, pretty much sweep through the remaining C-rank teams and B-rank fights.
* CuttingTheKnot:
** So you need to capture the vampire, but you can't get past the immortal that can {{Retcon}} damage away? Teleport her to the moon instead so she can't get back in time.
** Facing opponent with superhuman durability? Rattle his brain can't send signals to his body and render him unable to move.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Moreso than its predecessor. Whereas ''Negima'' was about a harem story that graduated into an action story to save the world, this story starts with attempted murder and the rise of class difference leading to an attempt to burn down an occupied shantytown and then gets ''darker''.
* DatePeepers:
** Touta's UnwantedHarem plus Santa and Ikkuu go spying on Kirie's date with Touta at Kyoto, although it's only revealed after the fact.
** Kuroumaru, Kirie, and Karin spy on Touta's date with Yukihime in chapter 168.
* DaywalkingVampire: Evangeline A.K. [=McDowell=] and Touta Konoe are immortal [[OurVampiresAreDifferent vampires]] without any of the normal weaknesses.
* DeathByOriginStory: Both of Touta's parents died two years before the start of the series. They were apparently members of the Konoe family, but it's not clear what their precise relationship to Konoka (children, cousins, adopted children, etc) was. [[spoiler: Touta is a clone so he's not likely related to the Konoes at all]].
* DefeatByModesty: When Karin challenges Touta to a duel, he uses his Revolution to destroy Karin's clothes and she stops attacking him to cover herself up. Twice. Weird, given how nonchalant she was about FullFrontalAssault in early chapters.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Invoked. Touta makes a bet with Kuroumaru that Kuroumaru has to do whatever Touta says if Touta wins a bout between the two. When Touta does win, his only request is Kuroumaru becomes his friend (and sign a contract formally establishing such).
* DeliberateInjuryGambit:
** Kuroumaru assumes that decapitation will kill Touta while Touta assumes it won't. Touta is right and uses the opportunity to slam Kuroumaru into the ground and end the fight.
** During his fight against [[spoiler:berserk sword god Kuroumaru]], Touta lets himself be stabbed through the chest so he can trap his opponent by grabbing the sword with his bare hand. [[spoiler:Instead of attacking, he takes the chance to restore Kuroumaru's sanity with a kiss.]]
* DidNotDieThatWay: Touta believes his parents died in a car accident two years before the start of the story. The very first chapter makes clear that wasn't the case; they were murdered and Yukihime could only save Touta.
* DidTheyOrDidntThey: It's heavily implied that [[spoiler: Negi and Evangeline]] ended up sleeping together [[PreClimaxClimax the night before the final confrontation with the Life-Maker]], but all the reader sees is them kissing before the camera cuts away as the chapter ends. Next chapter, [[spoiler:Evangeline]] gets up from bed in her underwear, obviously suggesting a SexyDiscretionShot between chapters.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Kirie knows Fate is coming to capture Touta and she decides the best way to deal with him is to trap him in a place he can't escape from. What place does Kirie choose to imprison the powerful earth mage? An underground cave... And none of the Numbers notice a flaw in their capture plan until they see Fate getting a power boost in the cave.
* DifferentWorldDifferentMovies: In chapter 185, when Gengoro reveals to Touta that he was sent to the UQ timeline after being killed in his own, basically describing it as an {{Isekai}} reincarnation. Touta, usually a GenreSavvy PopCulturedBadass, is left puzzled at what he heard. Gengoro then remarks the {{Isekai}} boom of the early 2010s never happened in UQ Holder's world.
* DistantFinale: [[spoiler: The final chapter takes place 12 thousand years after the FinalBattle.]]
* DistantSequel: The story is set seventy-five years after the events of ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'', focusing on Negi's grandson Touta Konoe.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything:
** Karin's Pactio has Touta laying on top of her as he keeps kissing her deeply and their clothes get blasted off by a BoltOfDivineRetribution. The way the entire scene is illustrated would make anyone think Touta and Karin are having wild sex. Hence, the NotWhatItLooksLike moment when Touta and Karin are found stark naked in a wrecked room next morning.
** For Kirie's Pactio, she and Touta must stay with their bellies pressed against each other for three hours straight because their time stop kiss nullifies the effect of the regular provisional Pactio. During the whole process, Touta and Kirie embrace each other in a suggestive manner before laying down on Kirie's bed with her on top of him, making it look like they're having clothed sex.
** Chapter 170 is overloaded of sexual innuendo and {{Double Entendre}}s between Touta and Kuroumaru. After being attacked by Kuroumaru's brother, Kuroumaru is inflicted with a WoundThatWillNotHeal through the chest. Touta transfuses his blood (bodily fluids) into Kuroumaru to keep Kuroumaru's body together, but since their blood types don't match, Touta and Kuroumaru must "become one" by synchronizing Touta's Revolution with Kuroumaru's KiManipulation as the two hold their bodies closely together (to keep Kuroumaru from splitting in two). Touta asks Kuroumaru to "accept him inside" and promises to "be gentle" with Kuroumaru. To top it off, Touta gives Kuroumaru the KissOfTheVampire, which he heard feels "weird and even painful", to force Kuroumaru's body to accept his blood so it can sew Kuroumaru's body tissue back together. The whole thing ends with Touta nearly "making Kuroumaru into a girl" as [[SomethingElseAlsoRises wings grow from Kuroumaru's back]] in a sequence that is illustrated like Kuroumaru having TheImmodestOrgasm. Kuroumaru seems to be the only one recognizing the naughtiness of the situation.
* DudeHesLikeInAComa: More than once one of Touta's love interests will see him sleeping and go in to kiss him. Kirie actually succeeds... which incidentally breaks the TimeStandsStill moment they were trapped in and immediately gets her caught. This becomes the focus of chapter 173 where Kuroumaru, Kirie, and Karin wash Touta's body while he's unconscious and ''then'' make out with him in bed as he sleeps.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:With the Life-Maker vanquished, after suffering through longer than a normal human's lifespan, the main cast of Negima get the happy endings they all wanted, as Asuna, Chisame, Yue, Nodoka, Konoka, and Setsuna all get to consummate their relationships with Negi and have children. Meanwhile, Touta, Karin, and Kuroumaru make use of their eternal lives protecting humanity and ensuring the reduction of suffering. Thanks to their efforts, 12 thousand years later, Evangeline finally returns and reunites with them]].
* ElaborateUniversityHigh: The fourth story arc sends Touta, Kuromaru, Karin, and Ikku to Mahora of all places, though it is now called Amano-Mihashira Academy City. As the name suggests, the campus has become so massive that it's now effectively a city within the city.
* {{Elopement}}: In a flashback in Chapter 149, [[spoiler:Eva]] suggests to [[spoiler:Negi]] to leave the world behind and live with her. [[spoiler:He thanks her for worrying about him, but declines.]]
* EmbodimentOfVirtue: Same as in ''Negima'', those who make a Pactio get a card that list a virtue that they embody most: Fides (Faith/Loyalty) for Yukihime, Karin, and Santa, Temperantia (Temperance) for Kuroumaru, Sapientia (Wisdom) for Kirie, Spes (Hope/Expectation) for Ikkuu, Audacia (Courage) for Shinobu, and Caritas (Charity) for Mizore.
* EmergencyTransformation: Touta is forced to drink Evangeline's blood in order to save her, himself, and his four friends in the first chapter.
* EroticDream: Chapter 135 starts with Kirie dreaming of Touta stripping her naked when they're in bed together.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Everyone is aware of who has a crush on Touta with the exception of [[ObliviousToLove Touta himself]]. Karin practically says this word for word when talking to Kirie. Much to Kirie's dismay, Kuroumaru, Ikkuu and Karin basically force Kirie to join the speeder race because they all know that she likes Touta and think winning it will get her closer to him. During the ensuing battle with Ala Alba, the entirety of the enemy team can instantly tell Kirie loves Touta, which they confirm it by reading her mind out loud. She still sometimes denies it, but at this point nobody (including Touta) takes her denials seriously.
* ExplainingYourPowersToTheEnemy: Gengoro gloriously [[AvertedTrope averts]] this by refusing to explain the method of his immortality. Many members of UQ Holder keep their powers unknown from their enemies, and even other members.
* {{Fanservice}}: This being a work from Creator/KenAkamatsu and a sequel to ''Negima!'', it shouldn't be a surprise to see bath scenes and for some ClothingDamage to happen. The early chapters try to keep it a bit tamer compared to its predecessor due to having a smaller female cast, but as the manga begins to shift into harem tropes, the fanservice levels become similar to those of ''Negima!''. Once the shift to monthly release occurs, entire chapters get devoted to Kirie getting naked and ending in several erotic situations with Touta.
* FantasticFightingStyle: The Shinmeryuu sword style from ''Manga/LoveHina'' and ''Negima'' makes its return here, with its exorcist and KiManipulation techniques being used by immortal hunters like Kuroumaru.
* FateWorseThanDeath: When you are an immortal you can survive things you really wouldn't want to. Like being eaten by a magical beast and having to endure thirty years of being digested, or having your head locked up in a safe and dropped down the Mariana trench while alive and conscious the whole time, or being flung into a star and burn for billions of years until the star burns out or the universe ends...
* FemaleAngelMaleDemon: There's a bit of this motif going on with Touta and some of his Ministra Magi. Touta tends to take a demonic form when using Magia Erebea. Among his Ministra Magi, there's Kuroumaru who eventually can grow feathered wings due to being a bird demihuman and Karin who uses holy magic that can make her take an angelic form with wings and a halo.
* FieldOfBlades: Kuroumaru's Artifact summons a bunch of replicas of the sword Mikazuchi Munechika stabbed on the ground, being a direct reference to [[TropeMaker Ashikaga Yoshiteru]]. Unlike most examples, the swords are all summoned sheathed.
* FightClubbing: In the city hosting the Mahora Martial Arts Preliminaries, there's an underground arena for B-ranked and up fighters. it's a full-on spectator sport, but since gambling on it is illegal they've taken it underground. Even residents of Inverse Mars can participate, as well as fighters from all over the Solar System.
* FirstEpisodeResurrection: In the first chapter, a half-dead Touta drinks Yukihime's blood when he's dying turning him into a vampire.
* FlamesOfLove: In Chapter 182 [[spoiler: Touta and Karin make love as the Sun-like star, Rigil Kentaurus, burns brightly behind them.]]
* FlirtatiousSmackOnTheAss: Touta slaps Kuroumaru's ass when they're undressing before going into the public bath together in chapter 61. Of course, since it's [[ChasteHero Touta]], he didn't understand the flirtatious implication of what he did.
* FloatingContinent:
** The Witch of the Rift Dana lives in a gigantic floating palace in a sky-like VoidBetweenTheWorlds.
** The floating city New Ostia from ''Negima'' makes a reappearance during UQ Holder's short trip to the Magic World.
* FlowersOfRomance: Chapter 181 has a romantic scene between Touta and Kuroumaru [[spoiler:that culminates in them having sex]] at an open-air bath where flower petals are falling everywhere.
* ForWantOfANail: [[spoiler: Asuna's presence changes history immensely. Without her, the Lifemaker isn't defeated, steals four of Negi's allies, and kills Chisame in the process. Not only that, magic and society don't prosper well at all, resulting in the class problems seen at the beginning of the series. In the timeline where she is present, the Lifemaker is defeated without a hitch, magic is seamlessly introduced into society, and Negi eventually marries the girl he loves]].
* ForcefulKiss:
** Yukihime gives a surprise kiss to Touta in chapter 110, right after telling him she won't move on with him because of her feelings for Negi. She does it again in chapter 168, leaving Touta not entirely sure of whether Yukihime rejected him or not.
** Touta forces a kiss on Kuroumaru twice in chapter 151, both times for Pactio purposes. Later, he also forcefully kisses Karin to [[spoiler:show her that "God's rejection" forbids him from making a Pactio with her like it did with Yukihime.]]
** Kirie and Touta steal kisses from each other several times after they discover they can freeze time by kissing.
** Karin forcefully kisses Touta in chapter 182 [[spoiler:before they have sex]].
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** The UQ Holder database states that Touta is four years old...
** The pactios of Kuroumaru, Karin, and Kirie with Touta were made in an overtly sexual manner. [[spoiler:They each have sex with him upon reuniting after 45 years of separation.]]
** When Agali Arept tries to break Touta by [[spoiler:showing him the inactive cards of his pactio partners, something that makes Touta's worst fears that they are dead to be confirmed,]] he suspiciously leaves out Ikkuu. Sure enough, later chapters show Ikkuu [[spoiler:alive, albeit brainwashed to be on their side. This omission is likely because showing an active card would give Touta hope, which would defeat the purpose of BreakThemByTalking.]]
* FourIsDeath: Santa lives at the room 401 of the school dorms. Santa says no one gets near the room because they call it the forbidden dorm. Also, the person living in it is a ghost.
* FriendVersusLover: In a single person. Kuroumaru insists they want to be Touta's {{Bash Brother|s}}, but Karin and Kirie know Kuroumaru has a crush on Touta and pressure Kuroumaru into pursuing a romantic relationship with him as a girl.
* FriendlyRivalry: Mizore and Shinobu get along fairly well when they aren't competing for Touta's affection. Mizore even offered to soup up Shinobu's racer with expensive parts.
* FullFrontalAssault: Considering the overdose of ClothingDamage in action sequences, the characters just start saying "screw it" and leave putting clothes on for later. It's almost never that Karin, Kuroumaru, and Gengorou especially start and end a fight with any clothes on.
* GenderReveal:
** Chapter 16 reveals Kuromaru has NoBiologicalSex until he is 16, but for now he identifies as male. However, since he has a crush on Touta, he struggles whether he should become a woman and is encouraged by Kirie and Karin to do so.
** The second time Touta met Shinobu, he was surprised to discover she's a girl.
* GenreShift: As the inverse of ''Negima'', ''UQ Holder'' starts as a shonen battle manga to then undergo an abrupt and drastic change to HaremGenre 95+ chapters in. The series then repeatedly shifts between over-the-top gory action and harem shenanigans. It finally settles back into grim and gritty fights in the final arcs.
* AGlassInTheHand: Karin breaks two glasses before she can actually deliver them to Yukihime when Yukihime mentions Touta lived with her and he might end up as the only immortal on the world after Karin.
* GloveSlap: In chapter 119, Mizore throws a glove at Kirie's face when she challenges her to participate at the speeder race, betting Touta as the prize.
* GrandTheftMe: [[spoiler: The Mage of Beginning possesses whoever defeats/kills their previous body, with Nagi being possessed before Negi at present. Touta's magic cancel can end the effect, which is why everyone wants him.]]
* GrayRainOfDepression:
** As revealed in chapter 148, in a timeline without Asuna present, [[spoiler:Negi cannot win against [[BigBad Nagi Ialda]] in 2025. Yue, Nodoka, Rakan and Albireo Imma all become the Lifemaker's marionettes and [[TakingTheBullet Chisame blocks an attack]] for Negi. The next scene shows Negi slowly walking with his head low towards Eva's cottage, not caring whether he is soaking wet in the rain that initially masks that he's crying.]]
** And again in chapter 176 [[spoiler: where Touta comes to grips with the fact he outlived his human friends, Shinobu and Mizore]].
* GreatBigLibraryOfEverything: The CoolAirship Akashic Skywheel is comprised of library upon library, to the point that its captain and UQ Holder's resident {{Bookworm}}, Nikitis barely went through 0.1 percent of its contents even after 20 years of reading.
* GreenRooming: Early characters like Touta's friends haven't appeared since the introduction of the UQ Holder organization.
* GroinAttack:
** Karin delivers one to the immortal hunter who assaulted her in the shower, kicking him in the nuts, after which she proceeds to [[NoHoldsBarredBeatDown kick his ass]].
** Karin also grabs Touta's male member [[spoiler:when they're all alone in space and she's trying to, um, "persuade" him to show her he's real with his body]].
* HackerCave: Santa, a {{Hikikomori}} hacker, lives in a dark room filled with computer screens.
* HammerSpace:
** In Chapter 63, [[spoiler: Mana Tatsumiya not only pulls extra guns from magic portals, [[VictoriasSecretCompartment she also pulls a sniper rifle from between her breasts.]]]]
** In Chapter 122, Mizore pulls one of Touta's shirts and some hair ribbons from a portal labeled "Mizore's Closet" to replace clothing lost due to a difficult turn on the course.
* HeadbuttOfLove: Touta and Kuroumaru share a cute headbutt in chapter 181 [[spoiler:right when they're about to have sex]].
* HealingFactor:
** Vampires of Eva's level can regenerate entire limbs in the blink of an eye. Though Touta does soon lose consciousness after too much of that. Later it's revealed this healing factor has a weakness: the limb only regenerates if the original limb is destroyed. If the limb is merely cut off and doesn't get destroyed, no regeneration happens because the arm is still linked to the body and therefore not considered dead.
** In the case of Kuroumaru's, his regenerates due to body modification so if anything gets injured or cut off it regenerates. There's a set speed to how fast it works however.
* HotterAndSexier: The monthly chapters manage to up the ante when compared to the weeklys. More nudity for characters both genders this time around [[note]] In the weeklys, much like in Negima before, male characters usually avoid ClothingDamage, and when they do they tend to keep their underwear, unlike the women who are stripped bare. The monthlys, by contrast, are more equal opportunity in the depiction of nudity. This shift is best shown through Touta, who before, was rarely shown fully nude. Ever since the first monthly chapter, he can spend sequences or even entire chapters in the nude. [[/note]] and increasingly risque situations characters get themselves in. Later chapters even show [[spoiler: onscreen sex between Touta and the female Numbers, with each scene progressively more explicit than the last]].
* HumiliatingWager: Mizore forces Kirie and Shinobu to compete at a speeder race where they bet Touta as the prize. Karin spices up the bet by declaring that the losers must walk a lap around UQ Holder's island while naked.
* IWantYouToMeetAnOldFriendOfMine: Yukihime brings Touta back to Class 3-A to meet [[spoiler: an older Ayaka Yukihiro, Chachamaru Karakuri & Sayo Aisaka]] in Chapter 112. [[spoiler: Zazie Rainyday appears later on in the chapter.]]
* ImagineSpotting: Touta spots chapter 181's flashback of [[spoiler:his goodbyes with the female Numbers before his HeroicSacrifice]]. He comments it looks like an emotional scene, but can't remember any of it.
* {{Immortality}}: A major theme. UQ holder is an entire organization of beings with various types of immortality, drawing a clear line between not aging and actual ''[[NighInvulnerable invulnerability]]''.
** TheAgeless: Jinbei stopped aging after eating the flesh of a mermaid in the 7th century, but lacks the HealingFactor of most other immortals.
** BrainUploading: Ikkuu Ameya gained immortality by transferring his mind into a robotic body.
** CompleteImmortality: Absolute agelessness and invulnerability are said to just not exist, though Evangeline does believe that Karin and Touta have the "strongest" possible immortalities.
** HealingFactor: Kuroumaru Tokisaka's immortality comes from powerful regeneration, which allows them to regenerate their body even after losing more than half of it.
** ImmortalityInducer:
*** Touta's immortality comes from Magia Erebea, an ability that basically makes him an immortal monster powered by BlackMagic.
*** Juuzou gained immortality by eating an immortality pill his father brought home when he was a kid.
** NighInvulnerability: Karin was blessed with the inability to age or be harmed in any way, so any damage to her is instantly ''[[{{Retcon}} retconned away]]''.
** ResurrectiveImmortality:
*** Gengorou Makabe has a form of literal VideoGameLives, which allow him to revive if killed.
*** Kirie Sakurame can set a literal SavePoint with her specialized ritual magic. Upon death she will return to the time and place she created the save point. She can even bring people back with her in time.
* ImmortalLifeIsCheap: Yukihime declares that a mission where a Number could die "two or three times" is perfect for beginners.
* IntimateHealing: In chapter 170, to keep a badly injured Kuroumaru's body warm, Touta cuddles with Kuroumaru while both are shirtless. Hence, Kuroumaru has a WhatDidIDoLastNight moment after regaining consciousness.
* IntimatePsychotherapy: In chapter 181, [[spoiler:Kuroumaru starts crying in front of Touta as she can't keep repressing the sadness and pain she felt from Touta fusing with a World Tree to save the Earth, 45 years of fighting demons while waiting for him, and losing several of their companions to their enemies. Touta also just came out of two long years of wandering Earth alone as he was frequently attacked by demons who claimed to have killed all of his allies. Touta and Kuroumaru have sex after confessing their love for each other, something both desperately needed to wash away the feelings of depression from the years they were separated.]]
* JumpingTheGenderBarrier: Kuroumaru is a {{demihuman}} born with NoBiologicalSex and will be able to pick their physical sex when they turn sixteen. Kuroumaru insistently presents themself as a guy and acts as Touta's brother-in-arms while keeping their sexless state secret from him. Karin and Kirie, both who know about Kuroumaru's gender deal and obvious crush on Touta, try pushing Kuroumaru into becoming a girl and pursuing a romance with Touta. Kuroumaru refuses to give in to their attraction to Touta, but their body still reacts to their feelings and begins transitioning into female on this own, starting with growing breasts. Meanwhile, Touta is completely oblivious to Kuroumaru's gender and love woes [[spoiler:until Kuroumaru finally shares their secrets with him. Afterwards, Touta finds that Kuroumaru is very cute as a girl and becomes attracted to his potentially female friend. 45 years later, Touta gets into a heterosexual relationship with a female Kuroumaru.]]
* KiManipulation: Like in ''Negima'', martial artists and the Shinmeiryuu swordsmen specialize in ki techniques.
* KillSat: Chapter 37 reveals that the Holders have access to [[spoiler: Chachamaru's ''Al-Iskandariya'' Orbital Satellite Weapon]], and it's currently under Ikku's control.
* KissOfTheVampire: In Chapter 170, Touta bites Kuroumaru's neck to make Kuroumaru into his temporary vampire follower and patch up a WoundThatWillNotHeal left by Kuroumaru's older brother. [[PervertedDrooling Kuroumaru's arousal]] [[TheImmodestOrgasm isn't subtle at all]] and acts like a deflowered maiden afterwards.
* LampshadeHanging: Realistically there's no way Kuroumaru should have completely dressed in the girl's school uniform, skirt, long socks, and all, without realizing his uniform had been switched from the boy's one, courtesy of Karin. The whole scene was obviously done for fanservice purposes. Touta lampshades this by pointing out "Dude you should have noticed before you put the skirt on!"
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: [[spoiler:As Kirie explains her adventures in the parallel world, she helpfully mentions that, were it to be put to manga, it'd be a five volume series.]]
* LegendaryInTheSequel: Ala Alba's exploits in ''Negima'' have made them quite famous in this series. [[spoiler:There's an entire street in the Magic World dedicated to them along with statues of each member]].
* ALightInTheDistance: Eva enjoyed her time with Class 3-A, but as the decades pass, she slowly outlives everyone else and grows tired of life, as the panels get darker and darker. However, as she walks on, she sees a light in the distance and [[AndTheAdventureContinues new people waiting for her]].
* LivingForeverIsAwesome: Touta doesn't put much stock in the "living forever sucks" line of thought Evangeline espoused through the decades. Though pulls a reversal in chapter 2 (PlayedForLaughs), when he finds out that he's stuck as a short fourteen year old for the rest of eternity, which, as it turns out, interferes with the dream he and his schoolmates promised each other.
* LoopholeAbuse: So Touta's been banned from the tournament and none of them will pay his way onto it by Yukihime's orders. He ends up wandering into a preliminary where 15 out of thousands of people will end up getting there.
* LosingYourHead: Cutting off the head of a vampire as powerful as Evangeline or Touta doesn't actually kill them immediately. And as long as they can get their head back on their body, they're just fine.
* LotusEaterMachine: Chapter 183 reveals [[spoiler:Yukihime]]'s mind is trapped in an illusionary world made of her happiest memories [[spoiler:of her days with Class 3-A. Meanwhile, her body is now controlled by the Lifemaker.]]
* LoveConfession:
** Kuroumaru tries to confesses to Touta in Chapter 99, who completely misinterprets it. Kuroumaru tries to confess again in Chapter 151, only for Touta to not get it again until Kuroumaru admitting they have NoBiologicalSex gets it through Touta's thick head.
** Kirie's infatuation with Touta is of the EveryoneCanSeeIt variety, but she consistently denies it...until it gets brought up during a life-or-death struggle with the remnants of Ala Alba, who helpfully read her mind in order to confirm it. She finally admits it to Touta during the struggle, but afterwards tries to deny it by claiming it was part of a scheme to trick Ala Alba into wasting time [[note]]Also counts as TalkingIsAFreeAction since the entire exchange which results in the confession is part of a plan to stall for exactly 37 seconds, but it doesn't seem to actually consume any of the time since the dialogue alone would require far more than 37 seconds. [[/note]]. To his credit, although Touta skeptically accepts her attempt at a take-back, he quickly figures out the take-back is a lie, and kisses her on the cheek in appreciation.
** In chapter 181, [[spoiler:Touta pulls in a nervous Kuroumaru to a CooldownHug, after the latter tried to run away in shame for asking "a reward" in the heat of the moment. Touta tells them it's all fine because he loves them.]]
** In chapter 182, [[spoiler:Karin reunites with Touta after 45 years of isolation in space. She opens up to Touta and confesses that she has fallen for him. Touta has a hard time believing it because he thought Karin hated him, but after a bit of thought, admits he does like her back, happily reciprocating.]]
* LoveConfessor:
** In Chapter 73, Touta confesses to Kuroumaru that he loves Yukihime. Though he's quick to deny that it's romantic love -- [[WellDoneSonGuy he just wants her to acknowledge him]].
** In Chapter 110, Yukihime confesses to Touta that she's still in love with Negi and that's why she can't reciprocate Touta's feelings, at least not until Negi is freed from the Lifemaker.
** In Chapter 135, Touta admits to Yukihime that he likes Kirie and wants to protect her. Kirie, who had passed out from getting trapped with Touta in a sauna, wakes up right on time to hear him say this.
* AMagicContractComesWithAKiss: The Pactio system is brought back when Touta starts kissing every girl in his UnwantedHarem (plus Ikkuu and Santa) to give them Artifacts.
* MagicalLibrary: Dana leaves Kirie in one for a week, but makes her use her time travelling powers to make the week long enough to read all the spellbooks.
* {{Magitek}}: It's stated that {{Muggles}} who can't use magic on their own can purchase what are basically magical [=iPhone=] apps that allow the use of simple spells. There are even developers for it.
* MarryThemAll: [[spoiler:While it's not explicitly stated in the finale if Negi marries anyone, he does still have children with Asuna, Yue, Nodoka, Chisame, Konoka and Setsuna]].
* MarshmallowHell: In a flashback of chapter 181, Touta gets his face between Yukihime's naked breasts as they hug [[spoiler:before he has to sacrifice himself to save the Earth by turning into a World Tree for 43 years]].
* MasculineFeminineAndrogyneTrio: In the first arcs, the main trio of immortals is made of a guy (Touta), a girl (Yukihime/Karin) and someone who isn't male or female (Kuroumaru).
* MesACrowd: Kirie, Shinobu, and Mizore all want to drive in a speeder race with Touta. Honoka casts a spell on Touta to split him into three so each girl can run with their own Touta.
* MeditatingUnderAWaterfall: Kuroumaru instructs Touta to stand under a waterfall to help with his KiManipulation training.
* MeetCute: Touta and Kuroumaru's first meeting is an extremely embarrassing one as it involves a NakedFirstImpression, Touta's head bumping into Kuroumaru's naked butt, and accidental groping from Touta. After Kuroumaru tries to kill Touta, both calm down and start getting along.
* MentalWorld: Like in ''Negima'', this series has "Phantasmagorias" which are alternate dimensions outside of time and space undistinguishable from the real deal. They're used to transport the spell's targets' minds inside. [[spoiler:The Lifemaker uses the mental dimension to trap Touta in their confrontations.]]
* MileLongShip: In the TimeSkip arc, UQ Holder's new hideout is now a miles-long CoolAirship that's a relic from an ancient civilization in Venus.
* MilhollandRelationshipMoment: For over 150 chapters, Kuroumaru refuses to let Touta know of their NoBiologicalSex out of fear that may damage their friendship. Chapter 151 has [[spoiler:Kuroumaru finally gathering the courage to show Touta the truth of their body and Touta instantly affirms that doesn't matter; they're still partners.]]
* MonsterSlayerRomance: Touta is an artificial vampire and and Kuroumaru is a practitioner of the Shinmei-ryuu ("Gods' Cry School"), a sword style developed specifically to exorcise demons and handicap immortals. Despite being raised by an immortal hunter clan, Kuroumaru quickly develops a big crush on Touta and near the end of the manga, Touta begins feeling attracted to Kuroumaru as more than a friend.
* MoodWhiplash: Chapter 133 is especially bad about this. [[spoiler:One minute we have all of Touta's allies getting defeated. The next Nodoka reveals that Kirie has a crush on him and they all tease her about. Then Cutlass decides to stab her and pull out her teeth.]]
* {{Mooks}}: Played with. A group of soldiers with identical weapons and armor attack Touta, and he clearly considers them video game style FacelessMooks. They proceed to beat the hell out of him with ease. Though they are generic and, as a later fight shows, not incredibly powerful, they're still way stronger than him.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: Hula-hoops play an integral party in the defeat of [[spoiler: a lightning spirit]]
* MusclesAreMeaningless: The bulky Kaito is beaten by the scrawny Touta.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: Tota [[spoiler: while under the effects of a truth potion]] proclaims his love for everyone he comes across, until he runs into Mizore whom he simply calls "Tiny".
* MysticalPlague: [[spoiler:The Net Bug is revealed to be Baal's own recreation of Ialda's perfect word spell mixed with Sayoko's virus. Using Sayoko's methods, it is transmitted like a disease. Unlike the true version which quickly and peacefully turns people into flower petals, the Net Bug slowly affects its victims, reducing them to dust at different rates. Due to it being a knockoff, it is also irreversible.]]
* MythArc: Touta's dream to climb to the top of the space elevator, also appears to be developing one about [[spoiler: Negi's fate]].
* MythologyGag: In chapter 135, Karin refers to Touta's unintentional ChickMagnet antics as his "natural gigolo" powers.
* NakedFirstImpression: Touta and Kuroumaru meet for the first time while bathing.
* {{Necromancer}}: Sayoko, [[spoiler:despite being a ghost, can bring back other people as ghosts,]] turned others into zombies in an infection that spread across the world. The first in the series.
* NeverSuicide: The official report of Santa's death is that he committed suicide after [[BulliedIntoDepression growing sick of all the bullying he had to put up with]]. [[spoiler:The truth is he was murdered by some rich kids that pushed him off a building because he made things hard for them and they [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections used their connections to cover it up as suicide]].]]
* NewNeoCity: "New Tokyo: Ama No Mihashira City"; since the space elevator (the "pillar of heaven") has been built in Tokyo, the city − as well as [[Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi Mahora academy]] − was renamed after it it seems.
* NotADate: Chapter 136 is about Yukihime sending Touta and Kirie out on a mission at Kyoto, but it's mainly an excuse so they can go on a date and spend the night together. They're even registered as newly-weds at the inn where they're staying, to Kirie's panic.
* NotWhatItLooksLike: The gang comes across Karin and Touta naked and on top of each other after trying to form a pactio over protests and the BoltOfDivineRetribution of the god who cursed her 2,000 years ago. She tries to explain this, but Touta's absent-minded phrasing makes the others think they had sex.
* NumerologicalMotif: The Pactio cards here once again include a Roman number to represent the Ministra. In the cases of the Numbers, they get the same Number they were given in the UQ Holder's ranks.
* OfficialKiss: [[spoiler:Touta and Kuroumaru]] had kissed a few times before for a [[AMagicContractComesWithAKiss Pactio]] and such, but they share their first romantic kiss as lovers in chapter 181. [[spoiler:Since both are naked, the kiss makes Touta get hard and one thing leads to another...]]
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Chapter 181 reveals that right before the 45-year TimeSkip, UQ Holder got into a big battle with [[spoiler:the High Daylight Walker Ba'al and his demon minions at the top of the SpaceElevator to stop their terrorist attack]]. Since Touta lost all memories of the event, the reader only sees Jinbei tell Touta they fought and won somehow, very unfortunately.
* OlderAndWiser:
** Evangeline returns from ''Negima'' to serve as the new main character Touta's guardian and mentor.
** You remember how a few members of Negi's class were TRAINING to be magisters? [[TheBusCameBack They obviously graduated since then...]]
* OneSidedArmWrestling: Kuroumaru and Karin effortlessly beat Touta in arm wrestling. Touta getting frustrated about it is what motivates him try and learn KiManipulation.
* OpenSecret: Kuroumaru acts very guarded about the fact that his body is sexless, and when Karin finds out he makes her promise to keep it a secret, especially from Touta. However this fact, or at least the implication, has been input into UQ Holder databases, meaning that it's not that difficult to find out if someone cares to look. At this point it looking like nearly everyone in the main cast knows about it ''except'' for Touta.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: Evangeline and Touta are both powerful vampires with a HealingFactor, SuperStrength, SuperSpeed, and [[DaywalkingVampire no problems with daylight]]. Chapter 77 reveals that they are merely knockoffs created with magic. True pure-blood vampires are powerful and ancient superhuman beings that can put even ''Fate'' on edge.
* OutdoorBathPeeping: Touta first meets Kuroumaru when both are bathing at a lake and Touta accidentally sticks his head into Kuroumaru's butt.
* OutfitRipSexCheck: Unconvinced that Kuroumaru is a guy, Touta pulls down Kuroumaru's pants while the latter is knocked out from Yukihime's attack in chapter 4. Kuroumaru wakes up to punch him before he can check anything, though.
* PerspectiveFlip: The first OVA adapts Yukihime's past self's meetings with Touta, but told from her point-of-view while in the manga it all happened from Touta's perspective.
* PlaceBeyondTime: Dana's castle is located in the VoidBetweenTheWorlds, which is connected to anywhere and anywhen. Dana usually keeps the time frames separated, but she loses control over her castle's time-wrapping properties when she's asleep. Touta, who comes from 2086, sees a Yukihime from the Middle Ages and a Meganeura from the Carboniferous period during his stay at the castle.
* {{Polyamory}}:
** [[spoiler:Nodoka and Yue]] confessed to [[spoiler:Negi]] both wanted to be his girlfriends. [[spoiler:In the timeline of ''UQ Holder'' where he didn't confess to Chisame, Negi agreed to make both Nodoka and Yue his formal Ministra.]]
** [[spoiler:After Touta turned into a World Tree to save the world, the female Numbers of UQ Holder made an agreement that they all would have sex with him after he came back and no one is allowed to monopolize him. Touta goes along with the agreement, having sex with the three when he finds them, one after another.]]
* ThePowerOfLove: [[spoiler:Kuroumaru is transformed into a sword. Touta calls out Kuroumaru's name, making his feelings reach Kuroumaru and this causes Kuroumaru to return to humanoid form, now with the power of a sword god. However, Kuroumaru goes berserk because she hasn't regained her mind yet. Touta kisses her, with the intention of accepting all of Kuroumaru, to bring her back to sanity and he succeeds.]]
* PreClimaxClimax: [[spoiler:Touta has sex with Kuroumaru, Karin and Kirie in Volume 26, right before the final battle begins in the next volume.]]
* PrivateMilitaryContractors: One enemy faction has their own private military trained against occult and chi-users, all EliteMooks.
* ProductionThrowback: The series has {{Shout Out}}'s to ''Manga/LoveHina''. There is a character named Shinobu with the same design as Love Hina's Shinobu. There is also a recreation of Keitarou's first visit to Hinata inn featuring Shinobu's first visit to Senkyokan inn. And ''UQ Holder: Magister Negi Magi 2'' begins... in ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'', complete with one of Negi's infamous sneezing fits stripping several members of his class.
* PunBasedTitle: The title's English UQ has the same pronunciation as the Japanese 悠久, the word for ''Eternity'', making the title "Eternity Holder!". 悠久 also gets featured inside the UQ in the first chapter's title page.
* PyrrhicVictory: [[spoiler:In the aftermath of the Orbital Ring attack, UQ Holder managed to beat Baal and drive off the Demon Barons, but the orbital ring is still destroyed and is set to release a virus that would annihilate humanity. To prevent this from happening, Touta performed a HeroicSacrifice by becoming a WorldTree to save the world, separating himself from his comrades. Costing their TrumpCard against Ialda as a result.]]
* RRatedOpening: The first chapter involves Yukihime/Evangeline being rather graphically chopped to pieces by a bounty hunter. Needless to say, Akamatsu is making it clear from the start that this is ''not'' going to be a ''Manga/LoveHina'' clone... at least until the series falls into harem clichés after around 95 chapters.
* RandomPowerRanking: The Mahora Martial Arts Preliminaries have participants ranked from "E" to "S", with E being the lowest. Your ranking is determined by your points and defeating someone of a certain rank gives you their points worth. Get enough and you'll rank up, but only people who have "S" rank and have defeated another "S" rank can go to the finals next year.
* RedBaron: Like in ''Negima'', the pactio cards have an epithet that describes traits or skills of the ministra. Here are some found in the cards put on sale for the anime:
** Yukihime's ministra epithet, Regina Glacialis, meaning "Ice Queen", refers to her [[AnIcePerson powerful ice magic]].
** Kuroumaru's ministra epithet, Gladiarium Neutrale, meaning "Neutral Swordwielder", is a reference to Kuroumaru's affinity with swords and NoBiologicalSex. "Kuryuu's" ministra epithet, Gladiaria Splendida, means "Spendid Swordswoman", continues the sword affinity and is a CallBack to when Karin said Kuroumaru would make a "lovely girl".
** Karin's ministra epithet, Sanctus Lucifer, meaning "Holy Light Bringer or Holy Morning Star". The former translation is a reference to her Holy Magic powers. Lucifer is the Latin word for Lightbringer. Morning Star, despite being used as a byword for the devil nowadays, was originally a reference to the King of Babylon, "falling from heaven". Morning star is also a title used to refer to both the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ, ironically or appropriately enough. Lastly, Morning Star is also used to describe the planet Venus, which happens to be her planet on her pactio card.
** Kirie's ministra epithet, Viator Temporis, meaning "Time Traveller", is a reference to her SavePoint MentalTimeTravel ability.
* RejectedMarriageProposal: In chapter 96, Touta bursts into Yukihime's office and shouts out that he wants to marry her for everyone in Fairyland Hall to hear it. Yukihime responds by beating the crap out of him and bluntly rejecting him. She would have probably said yes if he had proposed to her past self during the weird TimeTravel shenanigans at Dana's castle.
-->'''Eva:''' Dummy... You're 500 years late...
* RescueArc:
** The vs. Immortal Hunters mini-arc has Kuroumaru being captured by the family heads of the Tougen Shinmei School that need the power of the divine sword inside Kuroumaru's body to eliminate the Lifemaker. Touta then sets out to save Kuroumaru.
** The 45 years later arc has a collective rescue of [[spoiler:Santa, Karin, Ikkuu, and Kirie who have all been sealed and/or taken away by the Demon Barons. Only Touta's Magic Cancel can save them and his return motivates UQ Holder to start the operations to take their missing members back.]]
* RescueSex:
** [[spoiler:Touta and Kuroumaru]] have TheirFirstTime soon after she arrives with the other Numbers to rescue him [[spoiler:from a trap set up by the Demon Barons]] and also protects him from a horde of monsters [[spoiler:while he's busy releasing Santa from a Jizo statue]].
** In chapter 182, [[spoiler:Karin has sex with Touta when he travels to the Alpha Centauri system to rescue her after she was floating aimlessly in space for decades.]]
* TheReveal: [[spoiler:Yue reveals that Fate and Yukihime created Touta as the 72nd Clone of Negi.]]
* TheRevealPromptsRomance: [[spoiler:For a long time, Touta thinks he and Kuroumaru are just male best friends. That is until Kuroumaru finally confesses to Touta that they're from a race that's sexless until they turn sixteen. This makes Touta quickly realize that the feelings Kuroumaru has towards him are romantic and he starts to reciprocate soon after.]]
* RomanticSpoonfeeding: Subverted in chapter 73. Kirie and Kuroumaru both try feeding an injured Touta with a spoon, but both get flustered and don't go through with it.
* SeriesGoal: Touta wants to climb to the top of the StarScraper tower, but then he finds out all you have to do to climb it is buy a ticket. Then he decides to start organization to bring fellow immortals together, only to find one already exists. It's starting to become a RunningGag that Touta's goals are ether easy to achieve or already done. [[spoiler:Later on he decides on working towards Eva's approval.]]
* SexMagic: The "Formal Pactio" is all but stated to be this. It's strongly implied that Negi engaged in this with [[spoiler:Nodoka and Yue]] and this keeps them eternally youthful.
* ShipSinking:
** Chapter 110 [[spoiler: basically sunk any subtext between Touta and Eva, with her confessing her love for Negi, and that she could not move on until she frees him from the Mage of the Beginning. Not even with Touta.]] Touta still can't move on for a long time. Chapter 168, however, does sink it for good [[spoiler:when Eva has a heart-to-heart with Touta about why she won't start a romantic relationship with him since she now loves him as a son/little brother. Touta actually doesn't take it badly at all because he has already realized he never loved Eva romantically and Kuroumaru is the one he really wants to be with.]]
** The cassette from the [=GoodEnd!World=] of ''Negima'' shows that [[spoiler:Negi rejected both Yue and Nodoka after their graduation.]] Then it proceeds to sink nearly all ships from the original ''Negima'' [[spoiler:with the revelation that Negi was in love with Chisame and married her in the good timeline.]] Ironically though, in the ''UQ'' timeline, [[spoiler:Negi never hooked up with Chisame and she was ''killed'' in front of him. With Nodoka and Yue gone too, Eva was the closest thing to a girlfriend he had left, but they never admitted their feelings until right before he was possessed by the Lifemaker.]]
** The TimeSkip arc [[spoiler:sinks the ships of the mortal girls who liked Touta since Shinobu and Mizore died before he returned 43 years later.]]
* ShirtlessScene: A lot with Touta.
* ShoutOut:
** In chapter 2, the race in the space is reminiscient of ''Videogame/FZero'' and the ships in the race heavily resemble ''Franchise/StarWars'' ships.
** In the first chapter Touta mentioned ''VideoGame/{{Castlevania}}''
** Neo-Tokio really? ''Anime/{{Akira}}''
** When Jinbei talks about the comrades he used to have when he first became immortal, a picture is shown of him(?) with another [[Film/SevenSamurai six samurai]].
** In after-battle conversation in chapter 14, Karin speaks about [[{{Cyborg}} cyborgization,]] [[VideoGame/MetalGearRisingRevengeance who have been available after a strife on the world in 2050's as means of helping disabled veterans, but end up weaponized.]] To drive point home, enemy they faced has some resemblance to [[spoiler:Sundowner]][[labelnote:Note]]He's [[BaldOfEvil bald]], [[EvilGloating loves to flaunt his apps]], [[CombatPragmatist has no hesitation to shoot innocents to distract his enemies]] [[ForTheEvulz (or just plain being dick)]], and has full complete cyberized body[[/labelnote]], while on the last page, we have someone resembles [[spoiler:Jetstream Sam]][[labelnote:Note]]He's katana user, he has clearly cyberized left arm, while his other parts of his body looks normal[[/labelnote]].
** Kirie's save point is [[VideoGame/DarkSouls a mount of dirt with a burning stick on top]].
** Two of the combatants from the underground fighting ring in chapter 69 could easily pass for [[VideoGame/LeagueofLegends Lucian and Twisted Fate]]
** When Dana tells Touta to make posses during his training, the posses he makes are references to ''Franchise/KamenRider'' and ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'', the latter becoming HilariousInHindsight because he posses like Dio Brando, a vampire who also has the power to [[TimeStandsStill stop time]].
** Shinobu's arrival at Fairyland Hall plays out just like Keitaro and Ema's arrivals at the Hinata House in ''Manga/LoveHina''. This also qualifies as a MythologyGag since it's all but stated that the two series take place in the same universe. Speaking of ''Manga/LoveHina'', Shinobu's racer is called the Tama-chan.
** In chapter 105, Touta realizes that [[TimeStandsStill time has stopped]] when he sees a spray of shotgun bullets frozen in midair, but he can walk around them and grab them. This is also how [[spoiler:Dio Brando discovered his Stand's time-stopping power]] in ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'', and Touta further underlines the reference by gushing that Kirie can do it for "more than five seconds."
** In the year 2135, one of the many ships whith flying in the sky, one is a [[Franchise/StarWars Mon Calamari cruiser]].
** During the final battle versus the lifemaker, Jack Rackan fight using the [[Videogame/FinalFantasyVII Buster Sword]].
** The true form of Lifemaker is likely the final form of ultimecia of ''Videogame/FinalFantasyVIII''.
** Goddamnit, all the final battle versus the lifemaker in the timeline A is same a final battle of ''Videogame/FinalFantasy'' franchise, OneWingedAngel form, the scenery and all the party reunite for final.
** During the final battle versus the lifemaker in the timeline A, Natsumi mentioned '' Franchise/StarWars''.
** In one chapter Gengoro mentioned [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario]].
** In the same chapter Jinbei use the [[Franchise/DragonBall Kamehameha]].
** Nikitis is fan of Music/ElvisPresley and [[Music/MichaelJackson MJ]].
** Ikku uses many [[Franchise/StarWars lightsabers]].
** In chapter 183, the heroines of the previous series discuss playing ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros''.
** In chapter 185, Touta asks Gengorou how many lives he's accumulated. He responds with [[{{Cap}} 65535]]. Touta wonders how many times you could beat ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'' with that stock of lives. Gengorou later remarks that his life events heavily resembled the ''VideoGame/LikeADragon'' series.
* SickEpisode: Touta spends chapter 73 weak and sick in bed after the attack from his evil sister. Kuroumaru and other of his companions nurse him at Afro's place.
* SocietyOfImmortals: The titular UQ Holder is an organization where all members are immortals.
* SoftWater: In chapter 170, Touta, Kuroumaru, Honoka, and Isana fall from the FloatingContinent New Ostia and land in the lake thousands of feet below. Touta and Kuroumaru at least have the excuse of being actual immortals, but normal girls like Honoka and Isana have no logical reason to come out unharmed.
* SomethingElseAlsoRises: In chapter 170, [[KissOfTheVampire Touta bites Kuroumaru's neck to suck blood]], causing wings to grow from Kuroumaru's back in what looks like Kuroumaru getting TheImmodestOrgasm.
* SpaceElevator: There's one in the capital that Touta wants to go up.
* SpiderTank: Strong Hand deploys one against Yukihime and Touta, but it doesn't survive long enough to be of any use, courtesy of other Numbered members of UQ Holder.
* SpinOffspring: The main character Touta Konoe is (allegedly) the grandson of Negi Springfield.
* StableTimeLoop: It turns out Yukihime's younger self was inspired to create Magia Erebea after she saw Touta using it against their teacher Dana. Negi eventually learned the technique from Eva and it got passed down to his clone, Touta.
* StarScraper: There's an impossibly tall tower in the capital where Touta believes strong mages live at the top. Yukihime/Evangeline tells him it's an orbital elevator.
* StargazingScene: Chapter 151 opens with a flashback to Kuroumaru's older brother holding a child Kuroumaru as they watch the night sky together. Later in the same chapter, Kuroumaru does the same with Touta before Touta tells Kuroumaru they should do as Kuroumaru's brother said and go on a journey to space after the Lifemaker is dealt with.
* StealthSequel: The fact that this series is a sequel to ''Negima!'' wasn't revealed until the actual release of the first chapter. It later dropped the "stealth" aspect and began openly advertising as a sequel to ''Negima!'' in 2016, with the explanation that it takes place in a timeline where ''Negima'''s GoldenEnding did not occur.
* SuddenSequelDeathSyndrome: Chapter 1 shows us Negi's gravestone telling us he is apparently dead. Eva's [[WhoWantsToLiveForever opening speech]] about can imply much of Class 3-A has followed and being 80 years in the future most would be rather old now anyways to say nothing of any adult characters from Negima. Yet this is a series about immortality so time will tell...
** A flashback later provides that as recently as ten years ago [[spoiler: Negi and a few other 3-A members were alive and fighting the Lifemaker on Mars]].
** As the story goes on we learn that [[spoiler: Fate Averruncus]] is not only alive and well, but [[spoiler: the head of "Ala Alba" opposing UQ Holder and trying to recruit Touta to go rescue the still living but somehow imprisoned Negi Springfield]]. He's also accompanied by a [[spoiler:Tsukuyomi Iwai]] who may or may not be the same character.
** Chapter 37 reveals [[spoiler: Chachamaru's ''Al-Iskandariya'' Orbital Satellite Weapon]] is now under the control of UQ Holder, namely owned by Yukihime and controlled by Ikku. Given this [[spoiler: is Chachamaru's Pactio item, which is implied in Negima to not be transferable (and a little beat up)]], it could be implied that [[spoiler: Chachamaru from Class 3-A could still be alive/around somehow (or it got "transferred" via an undisclosed means). In Chapter 112, it's revealed Chachamaru is one of five former Class 3-A students still around in the 2080's.]]
** Despite the musings in the first chapter by Yukihime, five former Class 3-A students are still around come the events in UQ Holder. [[spoiler: In Chapter 62, Mana Tatsumiya is revealed to be alive, and is the Acting Headmaster of Mahora. In Chapter 112, a visibily older Ayaka Yukihiro, an upgraded/modified Chachamaru Karakuri & Sayo Aisaka meet Yukihime and Touta in Class 3-A along with Mana. Zazie Rainyday appears later on in the chapter to provide additional info about Negi.]]
** In chapter 117, it's revealed that [[spoiler:Nodoka Miyazaki and Yue Ayase are still alive along with Jack Rakan and Albireo Imma and they're with Negi... however it turns out they're all being used as puppets by the Life-Maker, and currently the only known solution for their freedom would mean Negi's death]].
** Chapter 148 reveals that [[spoiler: the Lifemaker killed Chisame decades before the series began]].
* SummonBiggerFish: Inverted. Rather than calling Yukihime to fight Fate, they bring Fate to ''her''.
* SupervillainLair: The BigBad builds herself one in the planetoids she assimilates, with a distinct fondness for vaguely Roman-like ruins, with stairs surrounded by broken columns leading to her throne.
* TalkingIsAFreeAction:
** Averted in Touta's fight against the bounty hunter. After his first attack is blocked Touta tries to throw your standard Shonen protagonist speech at the villain. Except the villain doesn't cooperate, gets behind Touta and lobs his arm off mid-sentence.
** Played straight when the Lifemaker-possessed-Negi and his minions pause a dramatic moment in a fight to tease Kirie about her crush on Touta, pressuring her into admitting to Touta how she feels about him. [[OffingTheAnnoyance Cutlass has enough of the misplaced romcom scene and stabs Kirie to shut her up.]]
* TeamTitle: In the sixth chapter, we're introduced formally to UQ Holder: A group formed by an immortal Eva knew that would gather other immortals together into a family.
* TeensAreMonsters: During the Investigation Arc we see a group of teenagers who regularly engage in "Hobo-hunting" and torment others who can't use magic because they lack either the talent or the money. This is not PlayedForLaughs at all, even more so as we learn [[spoiler:some other teenagers murdered Santa and their parents covered it up for them.]]
* TemporalMutability: {{Discussed|Trope}}. Kirie's MentalTimeTravel power allows her to turn back time and change the course of events without repercussions, but she isn't entirely sure of what she's doing to the timeline. Ikkuu and Touta bring up the possibility that Kirie's SavePoint doesn't actually send her back in time, but to an alternate timeline/dimension, that when she dies her memories are sent to alternate Kirie, while the original timeline continues but with Kirie being dead. The extradimensional witch Dana denies this theory; Kirie's reset power is so perfect that it overwrites the timeline she's in.
* TheStinger: [[spoiler:The final volume closes out with a short bonus chapter focusing on Gengoro in the "real" world.]]
* TheirFirstTime: [[spoiler:Touta and Kuroumaru give each others virginities in chapter 181.]]
* ThereIsOnlyOneBed: Touta and Kuroumaru stay at Santa's bedroom during their mission at the academy city. Since Santa's bed is big enough, the three end up sharing it and only Touta doesn't find the situation awkward.
* TimeSkip: The story jumps 43 years into the future in chapter 175 and then again jumps two years forward at the end of chapter 177.
* TimeStandsStill: In chapter 105, Touta and Kirie end up trapped in a time stop due to a "glitch" in [[SaveScumming Kirie's powers]] (her save point was destroyed at the exact same moment she committed suicide). They spend months like this until they accidentally cancel it.
* TimeTravelRomance: Touta goes to do some training at Dana's castle where different time periods connect when Dana falls asleep. There, Touta meets Yukihime from the Middle Ages and becomes her FirstLove.
* TournamentArc: Chapters 75-76 are about Touta and Afro the Forever participating in the preliminaries for the Mahora Martial Arts Tournament. The arc is then cut short for a training arc with Yukihime's old master Dana.
* TrainingFromHell: Dana's training for Touta, Kuromaru, and Santa starts with her chasing them around for half a day and repeatedly killing them to reduce the time it takes for them to regenerate. Appropriately, the chapter is titled "Spartan Training". She then tops that by sending them through progressive levels of difficulty, like sending Kuromaru to face enemies who take a number of other fighters to deal with, Santa against creatures that can eat spirit matter, Kirie has to learn a number of magic techniques that she gets quizzed on, and Touta has to balance hoops while juggling or it stops his heart.
* TwoPersonPoolParty: In chapter 181, [[spoiler:Touta and Kuroumaru]] have underwater sex at the hot spring of an outdoor bath.
* UnderwaterKiss: [[spoiler:Touta and Kuroumaru]] submerge in a hot spring as they share a passionate kiss [[spoiler:and start making love]] in chapter 181.
* TheUnmasquedWorld: Magic was finally revealed to the world at large ten years before the beginning of the series.
* UrbanSegregation: A very large theme of the story. We see the differences in class with how the residents of a shantytown struggle to make ends meet, only to be nearly murdered so their land could be cleared and taken.
* WallPinOfLove: Touta pulls out one on Kuroumaru in Karin's OVA when the magic chocolate he ate makes him confess he wants to have a "deeper relationship" with his partner. By that he means that he wants them to be even more awesome partners.
* WhamEpisode:
** Chapter 24, which confirms the presence of Magia Erebea [[spoiler:as Touta's newly-awakened power,]] and adds a flashback that shows [[spoiler:Negi and a few of his endgame allies being alive 20 years prior to ''UQ Holder!'', still fighting the Mage of the Beginning.]]
** Though some fans did suspect it, in chapter 42, [[spoiler: Fate declares that Negi is still alive and he's trying to save him. And that by saving him, he saves the entire solar system. However, he also does note that, yes he did kill Touta's parents.]]
** Chapter 65: [[spoiler:The appearance of a projection of both Negi and Nagi after Evageline touches Negi's signature on the registration paper, and then the subsequent appearance of the Mage of the Beginning intercepting the two and discovering Touta.]]
** Chapter 71: [[spoiler:Touta is a copy of Negi. Specifically, he is a defective attempt to pass Negi's power on, since Negi ''couldn't have children''.]]
** Chapter 95: [[spoiler: The appearance of 6 girls at the end: [[TheBusCameBack Shinobu]], Honoka and Isana ''Konoe'' (who look just like Konoka and Setsuna), a girl with pigtails that says she's going to marry Touta, an old lady who is implied to the girl's grandmother and introduces herself by holding up ''Ayaka's Pactio Card'', and an android who may or may not be ''Chachamaru''.]]
** Chapter 114: [[spoiler: Negi wants to be killed]]
** Chapter 119: [[spoiler: Nodoka, Yue, Jack Rakan, and Albireo Imma are all working with the Lifemaker-possessed Negi.]]
** Chapter 127: [[spoiler: Touta is actually a hybrid clone of Negi and Asuna (IOW, he's effectively ''their child'', genetically speaking), and the only one among 72 experiments to inherit the powers of both perfectly.]]
* WhamLine:
** [[spoiler:"The strongest Grand Mage in the Solar System...Fate Averruncus."]]
** [[spoiler:Evangeline: "I still love Negi Springfield."]]
** [[spoiler:Honoka Konoe: "Yukihime-han wants to kill Grandfather!"]]
** [[spoiler:Negi Springfield: "I am the Mage of the Beginning."]]
* WholeEpisodeFlashback: Two of them.
** The recording projected by Chachazero shows Yukihime and Negi planning the organization, buying the island that serves as its base, with Chachazero suggesting the name UQ Holder. It doubles as OriginsEpisode.
** Karin's flashback recounts how she, Yukihime and Jinbei, essentially formed a precursor version of UQ Holder, by teaming up to fight invaders from Inverse Mars.
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: According to Yukihime/Evangeline, immortality eventually becomes a curse. She appears to have outlived most of the original ''Negima!'' cast, leaving her alone once again. She's even apparently left ''Chachazero'' behind, though the opening colored pages are likely to be more symbolic than literal. The true pure-blood vampires mentioned in chapter 77 [[TimeAbyss who are much, much older than Yukihime]] have become so jaded in their old age that most of them are completely cut off from the world. One pure-blood who is apparently an exception claims the others are basically living corpses.
** A good chunk of chapter 94 is devoted to the characters discussing what they'll do when the Earth is eventually destroyed in 5 billion years.
* WrenchWench: Shinobu Yuuki was introduced trying to fix up an old hoverbike, and dreams of building a ship to compete in the Solar Olympics.
* {{Yakuza}}: Touta points out that the underlings of UQ Holder look like yakuza thugs.
* YearsTooEarly: Quoted word-for-word when Yukihime scolds Touta and his friends after they attack her for the first time on-panel.
* YouAreTooLate: Chapter 171 has Touta storm into Tougen to rescue Kuroumaru before the immortal hunters finish the ritual that will take away Kuroumaru's immortality. [[spoiler:When Touta finds his partner, the ritual is already over and Kuroumaru has been turned into the Hina Blade. Luckily for him, Kuroumaru soon turns back to human form.]]
* ZeroGSpot: [[spoiler:Karin]]'s sex scene with [[spoiler:Touta]] in chapter 182 happens when both are floating naked in space.
* ZombieApocalypse: [[spoiler:Sayoko unleashes a zombie epidemic on the school.]] By chapter 55, she's unleashed one on [[spoiler:the entire world]].
