->''"There's no such thing as 'absolutely impossible' in this world!"''
-->-- '''Ikuto Touhouin'''

''Nagasarete Airantou'' is a a series of manga written and illustrated by Takeshi Fujishiro. It was later adapted into a 26-episode anime in 2007 by Studio Feel. There's also the light novel version based on the manga.

After a fight with his father, [[UnluckyEverydude Ikuto Touhouin]] runs away from home and boards a ship. After falling overboard during a huge storm, he washes ashore on a [[LostWorld mysterious island]] [[LadyLand inhabited by only women]], with no means to escape. With a guy on the island at last, now everyone is determined to make him their husband.

It has a sister series named ''Manga/CaheDetectiveClub'', by the same creator, where one of the main cast is one of Ikuto's cousins.
%% Not a typo - the title of said series using "Cahe" instead of "Cafe" is part of a joke.
----
!!This series provides examples of:
%%* AccidentalMisnaming: M...suke.
%%-->'''Michiru''': ''Come on, calling me by a pet name; you still can't remember my real name?!''
%%* TheAce: Suzu.
%%% BrokenAce
%%* ACupAngst: Ayane.
%% AbusiveParents: Ikuto's father
%%* AccidentalKiss: Ikuto to [[spoiler:Ayane]].
* AccidentalPervert: As much as he tries to avoid an "eyeful" (or a [[ThanksForTheMammary handful]], or a faceful, or...[[OverlyLongGag yeah, we'd better stop now]]) Ikuto still crosses into this.
* AchievementsInIgnorance: Ikuto manages to BEAT UP A GHOST because he refused to believe it was actually a ghost.
%%* ActionGirl: Pretty much every girl in the island.
* AcquiredPoisonImmunity: Kokoro reveals that she has been putting poison into her daughter's drinks and food for years to gain this affect after Ikuto accidentally drinks from the wrong cup.
%%* AdamAndEvePlot:
%%* AllThereInTheManual: Listen to the [[AudioAdaptation Drama CD 1]] To Know More!
%%* AllYourPowersCombined: Weather Charm 1-2-3-Shikis' Muramasa.
%%** [[spoiler:Devil Sky Dragon Muramasa is its alternate ''and'' stronger form.]]
%%* AlwaysABiggerFish: A literal example.
%%* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Suzu to Ayane.
%%** Also, Machi to Ayane.
%%* AnIcePerson: The [[{{Youkai}} Yuki-onnas]].
%%* AnimalEaredHeadband: A few times with Chikage's cat cosplay obsession.
%%* ApologeticAttacker: Mei Mei.
%%* ApologizesALot: Mei Mei, again.
* ArbitrarySkepticism: Ikuto has gradually become accustomed to talking with the anthropomorphic animals on the island, yet still refuses to believe in anything of paranormal or mythological origin ''even if it is right in front of him''.
** The most trouble he had was being introduced to Shima-Tora as the Southern Leader and Suzu's master of martial arts. Until Shima-Tora clawed his face.
** He doesn't have any problems believing in Aliens and {{Robot Girl}}s either.
*** He winds up on the other end of the spectrum, when he tries to convince the islanders on the existence of the aforementioned aliens.
** A later chapter had Ikuto get sick and get a fever which made him start to believe in magic. Then when he was still recovering he started to mix science fact with magic, and then he freaked out when he realized what he was saying.
** [[spoiler: It is revealed that he had a spell cast on him to make him that way.]] After Chapter 106 [[spoiler: it wore off due to being under the effect of a stronger spell. Although this wasn't discussed until Chapter 125]].
* {{Arrowgram}}: Occasionally done by Machi or the ninjas. Also Michiru has the ability to control her arrows flight. So Obaba uses her to send messages to the entire village multiple arrows at a time.
* ArtShift: During Michiru and Tohno's confrontation, they emanate a BattleAura that shows them how they should look like outside of Airantou.
%%* AsideGlance: Among many other examples:
%%--> Chibi Machi [[VSign pawns all!]]
* AbsurdlyYouthfulMother: The first mother introduced is Chizuru, Machi and Ayane's mother (and to the hilarious reaction by Ikuto by this revelation). We then found out that the women marry at young ages since their life-style's that of the Fedual Era. Chizuru is the first to have children at her ''age''.
* AttackItsWeakPoint: How Ikuto defeats [[spoiler:The North Leader, Taiga.]]
%%* AuthorAppeal: Single male, on an isolated island with only females, most of them are pretty and young? ''Come on''.
* BadassNormal: Ikuto the most because he fights the most, but any badass who is not a {{miko}}, {{ninja}}, or {{Youkai}}.
** Some may be on the border line of CharlesAtlasSuperpower though. Example? [[spoiler: He has the power to punch ghosts bare handed.]]
* TheBabyTrap: Ayane once planned doing this to Ikuto to make him more unwilling to leave the island. [[ButtMonkey For once]] her plan works and she manages to pin down Ikuto under her while being half naked. Unfortunately she has no idea what they are supposed to do next. [[spoiler:At least she gets their FirstKiss out of it!]]
%%* ThroughHisStomach: Most of them do this.
%%* BadassAdorable: Most of them count.
%%* BadassBookworm: Chikage.
%%* BadLuckCharm: The Muramasa Broom.
%%* BadlyBatteredBabysitter: Yukino to Taka-Taka's nephew.
%%* BagOfHolding: In the manga, this was {{lampshade|Hanging}}d a bit.
%%* BalloonBelly: Suzu in episode 2.
%%** Ikuto when Suzu tries to give him {{CPR|CleanPrettyReliable}} when he first washes ashore.
* BambooTechnology: Ikuto introduces the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icebox Ice Box]] to the island. The islanders use {{M|agitek}}ichiru to create the ice for the boxes though.
* BathtubBonding: Suzu (and most of the island girls) innocently wishes to do this with Ikuto just for fun, but doesn't understand why he has a problem with that or why he always faints with a nosebleed the times she got close to doing it.
** One time Suzu and Misaki finally managed to get him into bath together with Machi's magic. Then gets to be on the receiving end of the embarrassment that Ikuto was trying to explain.
* BatmanGambit: The Scavenger Hunt StoryArc doesn't count on its own at first; it took the aftermath chapter to show it to be one. [[spoiler:Obaba made sure that all the girls will be exhausted in the competition so that the winner and the "prize" (Ikuto and whoever-he-picks/whoever-picks-him) would not be disturbed at the hotsprings while Sakuya guards the inn. On the rare night that a magic that makes a couple marry is active.]]
* BattleAura: Apparently, all the Leaders are supposed to possess this.
%%** {{Youkai}}s, too.
%%** Oh, poor Mei-Mei.
* TheBeard: Machi goes on a fake date with Ikuto to get Hikaru Genji to stop pursuing her.
* BerserkButton:
** Telling Ikuto anything is "impossible".[[note]]Anime only[[/note]]
** Getting between Suzu and mame daifuku is pretty stupid.
** Insulting Machi about her age once, shame on her; insulting Machi about her age consecutively, prepare for the ''''' worst'''''.
** Taiga is ''very'' protective...[[RealMenWearPink of the sakura tree in his territory]].
* BecomingTheMask: This is what lead Shizuka [[spoiler:to become Beniyasha]]: The man who she harbored her feelings for wishes to be a detective and write about them in novels. She does it herself after hearing about Ikuto, and decided to write again.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Suzu. When she becomes {{clingy|JealousGirl}}, even her ''sensei'' (one of the ''Four Leaders'', mind you) is afraid of her!
* BigBadWannabe: The Kami Kami group, a pair of foxes that want to usurp the Leaders' position, but are downright pathetic in strength and skill.
* BigBrotherMentor: [[spoiler:The known fathers of the main girls acted like big brothers for Ikuto as he was growing up.]]
* BigDamnHeroes: Ikuto gets one saving Ayane and Michiru from an enraged Taiga, the North Leader, by [[ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks throwing his sword]] to hit [[AttackItsWeakPoint Taiga's weak point.]]
** He also brought lunch.
** [[spoiler:Machi's shikigamis [[AllYourPowersCombined transformed]] [[ThePowerOfFriendship into]] Devil Sky Dragon Muramasa to save the day.]]
** The remaining Harlemettes arrive just in time to stop the still-unnamed youkai from returning Ikuto to Japan in chapter 112.
%%* BigEater: Machi
%%* BigFancyHouse: Chikage's.
%%* BigSisterInstinct: Tohno towards Mei Mei.
* BigStupidDoodooHead: Swordswoman Yoshidzu Katana and carpenter Abeno Kanna are rivals that hate each other from a few hundred years ago. And now their spirits are fighting while possessing Ayane and Suzu respectively. Their argument devolves into the trope after their evenly matched fight goes on for a while and ran out of things to say.
* BoomerangComeback: The girls nervously let Shinobu throw some shurikens to cut some rope across the river who believes that her skills isn't that rusty to miss. They somehow ''[[EpicFail return]]'' [[EpicFail to the girls instead]], who point out this should be impossible.
** Later at a festival Ikuto shows that he mastered this technique while training with Shinobu. It results in shurikens flying in random patterns but still precisely hits the target. Even Mikoto, who's confident with shurikens, has no idea how to dodge them.
* BreakTheHaughty: Shizuka, [[spoiler:as Beniyasha]], did this to Kagami. She kinda overdid it to the point of trauma for Kagami. Justified because Kagami never approved of Shizuka marrying her older brother, 'causing Shizuka to wear the mask and scare the hell out of her ''7 times''...
* BrickJoke: Two in the first Beniyasha StoryArc, both involving the hotsprings.
## When we first see the haremettes in Sakuya's hotsprings, they all decide to wash themselves silly for the sole reason of Ikuto staying under the same roof as them. Things happen, and then we later see the girls have over-scrubbed themselves to the point of having ''rashes''.
## Later the girls decide to spring a trap for Ikuto so that they can join him in the hotsprings. Chikage, who was supposed to lead Ikuto into the trap, completely forgets about them when the plot picks up. What happens when you spend too long in the hotsprings again?
** Speaking of Beniyasha, the {{flashback}} StoryArc shows that Kagami is deathly afraid of the prankster [[spoiler:especially since Beniyasha was her future ''sister-in-law''.]] In the second Beniyasha arc, we have a little throwaway scene showing that Kagami is ''still'' afraid of Beniyasha.
** One would never expect Ikuto's nosebleed to [[spoiler:help him win in his first duel against Taiga]], would you?
** Similarly, Taiga's weakness [[spoiler:between his tails.]]
** During Tonkatsu's errand to go to Shima-tora alone, Suzu (who was following Tonkatsu), runs into a lost Shinobu, completely immobile because of hunger. Suzu promises to Shinobu that she will come back for her. As shown in chapter 65 here, Suzu didn't make good on that promise.
* BridalCarry: Ikuto does this to Machi when Hikaru Genji attacks them during their fake date. Unlike many instances of this trope with ActionGirl Machi is fine with Ikuto carrying her like that. Then again the whole thing is part of her BatmanGambit...
%%* BrilliantButLazy: Machi; a highly-gifted {{miko}}, but...yeah.
%%** To a larger extent, Michiru.
* BrotherSisterIncest: Misaki seemed to act like her brother was her boyfriend in many of the flashbacks. Ikuto seems to think that normal sisters just do that.
%%** [[spoiler: When she read Ikuto's letter-in-a-bottle, she was UNPLEASED.]]
%%** A case of NotBloodSiblings considering one of the flashbacks revealed a weird age discrepancy. There is about 3 months between their birthdays.
* ButtMonkey: Ayane, for the most part. She gets stepped on constantly, for instance.
** She is such a ''ButtMonkey'' that she thinks that the blood sucking plant is just playing when it is gnawing on her face. She lets it do it every day.
*** She also fails to notice the effects of a BadLuckCharm because her luck is ''already'' terrible.
** Michiru, after her initial introduction was often [[RunningGag stepped on, forgotten by the characters, or simply not noticed.]] Around the same time, Ayane started getting more competent.
*** CosmicPlaything: The author likes to even ''directly'' poke fun at Michiru. [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall Hello, Table of Contents!]]
** Being a {{harem}} male protagonist Ikuto gets the stuffing beat out of him on a fairly regular basis.
%%*** One episode of the anime emphasizes Ikuto's status as the ButtMonkey.
%%** The East Leader, in most of his appearances, seems to have some sort of bad luck...
** Kagami, Yukino's mother, is this to Beniyasha [[spoiler: AKA Shizuka]]. Therefore she is Beniyasha's personal butt monkey, to the point that Kagami cannot sleep due to her nightmares of Beniyasha.
* CallBack: Several in the story. The author really knows his series.
** The man with the top hat on the boat in Obaba's flashback is the same man who stopped the old way of of determining the ruler of the South Forest. He also built Chikage's mansion. He is also hinted at being Rin's ancestor!
%%** Remember Chikage's floating chair? Well it makes a few more appearances.
%%* CallingYourAttacks: Karaage mostly, but a few others.
* TheCameo: Some ''Manga/CaheDetectiveClub'' characters like Naru and Emina appear in some flashbacks when Ikuto was at school.
%%* CantActPervertedTowardALoveInterest: Rin's father Tadanori.
%%* CantHoldHerLiquor: Risa.
* CarnivoreConfusion: All animals on the island can talk for some reason, so humans eat fish instead. Eggs are still fair game, though, making it a little awkward when a hen has a friendly chat with the male lead before handing over a basket of hers... This was particularly unsettling when [[spoiler:Chikage found a spellbook and uses it to turn all the animals into people and the people into animals, and the hen becomes a woman somewhere in her 30s.]]
* {{Catgirl}}: Suzu, who is on very good terms with the cats and spent some time being trained by their Leader, wears a bow that seems to only be there to give the impression of cat ears in certain shots, sometimes makes feline sounds when excited or scared, and a cat-like aura appears [[RunningGag whenever she goes]] {{yandere}} (inherited from her mother). This is played even straighter when she turns into a cat for the human-animal transformation episode.
%%** Also, Shima-tora's wife Myaa (see VoluntaryShapeshifting below).
* CelibateHero: Ikuto makes it apparent from the beginning that he doesn't want to get romantically involved with any of the girls in his UnwantedHarem. For now, that is...
%%* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: Rin is the most primary example in the series.
%%* ChineseGirl: Mei Mei
* ClingyJealousGirl: The most interesting variant of which is Suzu herself, who ''[[ObliviousToLove doesn't]]'' [[ObliviousToLove know what she is being jealous about...]] Also when she becomes jealous she wants to take a bath with him. Not to do anything, just bathe together.
** Because Ikuto said she is cute when she smiles, she tries to curtail her jealous tendencies later on.
*** While it can also be [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation alternately interpreted]] as a protective instinct towards Suzu, Ikuto inverts the usual situation by reacting '''very''' badly on [[spoiler:Beniyasha-as-Ikuto trying to seduce Suzu, to the point that Beniyasha went OhCrap.]]
** [[spoiler:Ayane, after she really falls in love with Ikuto rather than in lust with him,]] displays many jealous tendencies and starts to follow him around a lot more.
%%* CluelessChickMagnet: [[spoiler:Ikuto, if there are other men around.]]
* CosplayOtakuGirl: Chikage has an...interesting [[PornStash "source"]] for her different ideas of clothing when impressing Ikuto, it seems.
** During the preparation of an yearly festival, she tried making some uniforms which is minimal clothes over exposed underwear. Ikuto criticizes that it has [[ExactWords too much skin exposure]]. Later she modified it by giving it long sleeves, gloves and knee-high socks.
* CoverInnocentEyesAndEars: Mikoto got affected by the poisonous pollen of the Heavenly Eggplants which causes a rapid change of personality. While she became angry, Misaki covers Konayuki's ears when she says a few censored rude words.
* CovertPervert: Mei Mei plays this trope as straight as possible, with her erotic book reading and what she thinks will happen anytime a girl is alone with Ikuto.
-->'''Mei Mei''': No one under 18 allowed to see!
%%* CPRCleanPrettyReliable: Used in the very first chapter.
%%* CreateYourOwnVillain: Machi was responsible for the release of her own ''nemesis'', Genjumaro.
%%** How Beniyasha came to be.
%%* CulturedWarrior: The North and South Leaders are fans of mystery novels.
%%* CurseCutShort: Ikuto when about to be eaten by a fish.
%%* CuteBruiser: Almost ''everyone'' in the series.
%%* CuteLittleFang: Suzu, but rarely shown, even in "feline" mode.
%%** Yukino has two.
%%* ADayInTheLimelight: The current StoryArc hasn't featured Ikuto at all, at least until the last part.
* DeathGlare: Suzu has a nice one reserved for when people start to hit on Ikuto. [[spoiler:Maybe she got it from her [[GenerationXerox mother]].]]
%%* {{Delinquent}}: [[spoiler:Karaage, the West Leader]], in his youth, after his TomatoSurprise.
%%* DemotedToExtra: Obaba.
* {{Determinator}}: Ikuto once he decides something he does not give up on it,even when his decision is not have a bath with three gorgeous women.
%%** A more straight example is any of his battles with the guardians.
** And in the first chapters when he was determined to leave the island, despite the whirlwinds, his fear of heights and the fact that no one had been able to leave before
** Shinobu also never gives up on her goals. Once she very closely followed Ikuto for a few days to request a duel, Ikuto was equally determined that he has no reason to fight her. It was Suzu caught between them that lost patience first and forced Ikuto to accept it to get rid of her. And then after the duel she did that again to become his apprentice.
** When Shinobu remembered Mei-Mei as the one that ate her fish when she arrived here, she immediately resumes her chase she had to stop before as she was hungry. They run all day around the island until Mei-Mei apologizes which she accepts.
* DeusExitMachina: Twice, the West Leader was conveniently out of the story just when things are getting hairy. First with Mei Mei and Tohno's introductions, leading into a crisis that involved the ''other three Leaders'' (granted, the West Leader's identity ''is'' a secret up to this point, but that's out of the subject), and the second time when a couple of troublemakers decided to usurp his position, leading Ikuto to protect the West in his place.
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud: Ayane has not caught on that most people scheme in their head silently. She just blurts her plans out loud and hopes no one hears them. Being the ''ButtMonkey'' they usually do.
* DirtyOldMan: Cute {{ninja}} carpenter Mikoto; she likes to peek at girls in the bath, especially Rin, [[MarilynManeuver lift up their skirts]], and [[BlackComedyRape grope them]].
%%** Also the East Leader.
%%** And Hikaru Genji
* DisappearedDad: All of the men of the island are this for all of the females on the island due to being washed away in the storm. [[spoiler: They all appear to be alive and well, as Nagamasa was identified at the end of Chapter 125, with a nice suit to match]].
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: When Beniyasha targeted her, Mei Mei became...''stimulated.'' The offending liquid was sprayed all over her face. Yeah.
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: Four out of five of the theme songs were played by [[Creator/YuiHorie Yui "Suzu" Horie]].
%%* DoesNotLikeSpam: Suzu.
%%** Also Machi.
* TheDoorSlamsYou: The first time Ikuto visits Chikage's house, he wasn't expecting an elephant to open the door with enough strength to slam him into the wall.
* DoubleEntendre: Not infrequently but chapter 90 in the manga is this trope. From the title to the last scene. A large part of this chapter is Shinobu, Yukino, and Suzu talking about riding Ikuto; you know on his shoulders.
* DoubleStandard: Ikuto repeatedly states that boys and girls should bathe separately and will usually have a problem with either being naked in front of the girls or the girls being naked in front of him; but at the same time, he doesn't mind bathing alongside Panako, who is still female despite being a humanoid [[FunnyAnimal Funny Elephant]] with almost no feminine characteristics. Suzu calls him out on it.
* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale: Not actually rape, but when when [[spoiler:Ayane paralyses Ikuto with poison and accidentally kisses him]], ''he'' "mans up" and takes responsibility for "offending" her. And he actually seems to think that it was his fault...
%%* DreamLand: A chapter deals with Machi spying on peoples dreams and we get to see some of these.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Nagamasa, Chizuru's husband in Karaage's flashback, from whom Machi ''[[GenerationXerox takes after in appearance]]''.
* DynamicEntry: Frequent, but most notable would be Shima-tora when he interrupted Tohno's and the East Leader's brawl, by ''knocking them both out'' (temporarily, but still [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome awesome]]).
* EarlyBirdCameo: [[spoiler:Suzu's father Takatora was first seen in a flashback of Ikuto's in chapter 50, over two years before his proper introduction two years later in a flashback chapter 76. Even then, it wasn't immediately obvious that the character in chapter 50 was Takatora, since there was a 14 year gap between the two flashbacks. It wasn't until chapter 126, released a whopping 5 years after chapter 50, that it was confirmed that the man in the flashback was indeed Takatora]]
%%* EasternZodiac: Yashiro's shikigamis.
* EatTheDog: One bonus chapter has mame daifuku that were accidentally made with alcohol, so Suzu gets drunk...and sees Tonkatsu, or anything round and soft for that matter[[note]]including Rin's ''breasts''[[/note]], as a mame daifuku. HilarityEnsues.
%%* {{Ecchi}}
%%* EmpathyPet: Tonkatsu, to an extent.
* EpicFail: How else would you describe Ikuto forfeiting a game of shogi to Suzu because he has ''only the'' King ''remaining'' '''and''' Suzu ''wasn't even paying attention?''
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Even the normally-sadistic Machi said that it was "too ''cruel''" for Suzu to [[spoiler:sic a beehive on Genjumaro.]] [[PlayingWithATrope Uh-huh, sure...]]
%%* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Much to Rin's dismay.
%%* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Takatora and Suzuran.
* EveryoneKnowsMorse: One time in the anime, Machi sends a message to her little sister Ayane with morse using VoodooDoll chest pains. Also, they were a short walk away from each other the whole time.
* EvolvingCredits: The anime OP makes slight changes to include Mei Mei and Shinobu after the episodes they were introduced.
* ExactlyWhatIAimedAt: While chasing Genjumaro, Suzu once throws a rock at it that seemed to have missed, except it dropped a [[ScaryStingingSwarm bee hive]] onto it.
* ExpressiveMask: Even under that mask, you can tell that Beniyasha went OhCrap, on ''two'' occasions.
%%* EyelidPullTaunt: Chikage during the ForcedTransformation incident she caused.
* FaceOfAThug: Karaage ''attempted'' to have this in his delinquent days, but fails horribly on account of his being [[spoiler:a ''chick'' at the time.]]
* FamilyBusiness: Each family on the island were assigned a job or crops to farm which is passed down to the children as well. And it's frowned upon to steal other's jobs. If you want to try something else you become an apprentice of that family. Or have to prove in a competition that you are better at the job.
* {{Fanservice}}: With one exception, no female has any inhibitions about [[FuroScene bathing]] with the male lead; Suzu in particular is upset throughout the series because Ikuto won't let her come in with him. And that's just the most common way to give Ikuto something to {{nosebleed}} over.
%%* FastballSpecial: Used at least twice.
%%* FearfulSymmetry: A doppelganger fight.
* FelonyMisdemeanor: Kaarage reflects on his "delinquent past" in chapter 76, only for Ituko to tell him that in the outside world, it's ''normal'' for birds to go around and eat people's crops.
* FluffyTamer:
** Yukino usually rides along on the back of an animal she befriended - most often Kuma-Kuma.
** Machi and her great-grandmother Yashiro, who love their shikigamis as friends and are loved by them in turn.
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** When they were looking for the [[labelnote:"Thief"]] Mei Mei[[/labelnote]] Suzu is the one who grasps the pattern in their crime spree. Fast Forward 70 chapters later guess who solves the pattern in the Beniyasha case?
** Also remember how in chapter 57 [[spoiler:Ikuto felt Michiru was somewhat familiar to him because she looks a lot like his sister, and like his sister, complains about the heat even when she shouldn't be and doesn't mind the cold even when she should? Well guess who else is revealed to not be entirely human in later on?]]
* FourthWallPortrait: The animals on the island of Airantou look significantly different and are more cuter than normal ones. An outsider Mei-Mei loves to create realistic looking animal costumes but they mostly scare the islanders.
%%* FragileSpeedster: Shinobu.
%%* FreakyFridayFlip: Ayane and Suzu.
* FriendshipMoment: The "rainy day" episode, [[spoiler:where Ikuto learns that it's practically a tradition for Suzu's friends to visit her on rainy days, when she would be feeling loneliest.]]
* FunnyAnimal: Well, compared to how RealLife animals look like anyway. Their existence is explained by [[spoiler:being created from the dreams of Kairyuu, an ancient and powerful Youkai, when it was lonely after its friend died]].
* FusionDance: The shrine maidens can fuse themselves or other people with one or more of their shikigamis to use their powers and gain enhanced strength. The result looks like they are wearing battle armor resembling the shikigamis.
* GenderRarityValue: All the island's girls fight over Ikuto, the only male around.
* GenerationXerox: Stories about the girls' parents are nearly the same as the stories about the girls themselves. Just with a few more guys to choose from. This is played hilariously straight with Machi, who is a shorter version of her ''father'' and a [[PaletteSwap black-haired version of her great-grandmother.]]
%%* GenieInABottle: A particularly cute one debuts in one of the omakes.
%%** LiteralGenie
* GeniusDitz: For some reason, [[OneManArmy Suzu]] can easily wipe the floor with everyone on the island - all at once.
* GentleGiant:
** Beefsteak's older brother, who is very large, buff, scarred, [[RealMenWearPink knows how to cook a good meal...]] Oh, and his reputation as a bruiser was only a rumor.
%%** Panako, unless you get her mad.
%%* GiantFood: Did you see the size of those eggplants?
* GivingThemTheStrip: Tohno and her friends simply wants to ask Ayane about the time when she encountered a Kappa a long time ago. But as it was a traumatizing event, she desperately runs away from the Kappa with her following. Being the IronButtmonkey, she goes through a lot of physical punishment losing a piece of her clothes each time, and yet nothing slows her down. By the time she's finally caught and tied up, she only has her underwear left.
%%* GlowingEyesOfDoom
%%* GoodScarsEvilScars:
%%** Taiga got it from The West Leader, [[spoiler:Karaage]].
%%** Takatora got one from saving Suzuran from a shark.
* GRatedSex: Hoo, boy. Aside from innuendo, the author has created probably the closest things one can get to child-friendly tentacle rape and bestiality.
%%* GroinAttack: Ikuto gets this because he doesn't believe Tohno is a kappa.
%%* HairTriggerTemper: Machi.
%%* HalfHumanHybrid: Michiru.
* HandsomeLech: Tadanori, Rin's DisappearedDad. Ironically CannotSpitItOut in regards to his true interest, Risa.
* {{Henohenomoheji}}: An eggplant with a henohenomoheji face is often used as a dummy to draw girls away from Ikuto.
* HeroismIncentive: To get the girls to care about the test results they offer a date with Ikuto as the incentive.
* HeyYou: Michiru is called this by almost everyone on the island, because they don't remember who she is. One time even she forgot her own name.
%%* HeyThatsMyLine
%%* HiddenBadass: [[spoiler:Karaage]], at least to Ikuto.
%%* HiddenEyes: Noticeable whenever anyone is going to, is, or did anything to Suzu/[[spoiler: Suzuran]]'s love interest.
* HotterAndSexier: Starting from volumes 28 and over, nudity is becoming commonplace to the point there is no censorship in any form. Most of the main girls are shown completely naked with the exception of Suzu and Misaki, who are still conveniently covered up.
* HumanlikeAnimalAging: The animals of the island, besides looking strange to outsiders, age at the same pace as humans. And also has the same average life span as well.
* IdenticalStranger:
** Ikuto just happens to resemble Takatora, Suzu's father.
** Also, a {{Youkai}} having the ''exact same appearance'' as Ayane. Think about ''that'' for a while.
** According to Ikuto, Michiru is an InUniverse {{Expy}} of his little sister, Misaki.
** According to Misaki and Ikuto, they have cousins who are also named Ayane and Machi who also looked like the Ayane and Machi of Airantou (except for who is the older sibling is swapped). They both appear in ''Manga/CaheDetectiveClub'' in case you're wondering.
%%* IdiotHair: Yukino, {{lampshaded}} even.
%%** A bit of Misaki's hair stands up when there's a youkai nearby.
* IdiotHero: Ikuto, as Karaage and Beniyasha both like to tell him. Even though it really only applies when he is dealing with women.
* IdiotsCannotCatchColds: Ikuto alludes to this trope when Suzu was the only one to not catch Machi's cold.
%%* ILetYouWin: The West Leader accused the North Leader of this, in regards to the latter's first duel against Ikuto.
%%* ImagineSpot: Ikuto has a few.
* IndirectKiss: Machi kissed Shinobu to kiss Ikuto.
* IncurableCoughOfDeath: Ikuto is trying to make a wooden object that involves water and then he starts sneezing. Few pages later Suzu runs into Michiru saying that she's in a hurry for some ice for Ikuto. Eager to help with his cold she quickly finds a way to fly with her ice powers, but keeps falling and hitting stuff all over the island looking for him. When she finds him he's still sneezing but [[spoiler:he was just allergic to the sawdust while trying to build a refrigerator.]]
* IntelligibleUnintelligible: The animals start this way to Ikuto until he 'gets used to life on the island.' Then they can be heard and understood in Japanese.
* InevitableWaterfall: {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d by Ikuto, who seems resigned to go over it (and he does).
** It's subverted later, too. When Ikuto finds himself in the same river, headed for the same waterfall, he remembers that it forks farther down. So he gets out...and then he gets eaten by a fish.
* InformedAttractiveness: {{Subverted|Trope}}; Ikuto was frequently told that Panako (Chikage's elephant maid) is the most beautiful person on the island, which he refuses to believe. [[spoiler:And then the ForcedTransformation episode came rolling around...]]
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: An entire island full of them. Since most of the main cast grew up without any contact with males, they never had to develop a since a modesty. As the story goes on, some of the girls begin to realize the affect they have on Ikuto and avert this trope. Though they still do the same things and realize what it entails.
* InnocentInnuendo: In Chapter 90, Suzu and Shinobu have a discussion about how much fun it would be to ride Ikuto. Sitting on his shoulders like Yukino, of course.
* InstantlyProvenWrong: Suzu, Ayane and Machi are fighting an unidentified snow youkai who kidnapped Ikuto. Then Ayane recognizes its techniques and declares it must be Michiru! In that same panel next to her Michiru appears and is shocked at this revelation herself.
%%* InterspeciesFriendship: See FluffyTamer above.
* InterspeciesRomance: For their mother's birthday, Shinobu, Mikoto and Kunai decide to give her a grandchild as a present. Which is the person they each chose to "do it" with them? [[CelibateHero Ikuto]], [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer Rin]], and '''Togeta''', respectively. And that wasn't the even ''only'' hint of Kunai's attraction to Togeta...
%%** HomosexualReproduction: um, yeah.
%%-->'''Mikoto''': Rin-neeesamaaaa♥...
%%-->'''Rin''': [[DefiedTrope That's impossible between girls,]] [[MegatonPunch you fool!]]
* IntimateHealing:
** In the manga when Ikuto [[spoiler: is poisoned during a visit to Kunai's house, Shinobu feeds him the antidote with mouth to mouth. It annoys Machi, surprise surprise.]]
** A giant snowball chases Ikuto and Michiru helps him escape. It turns out to be a snow fairy named Konayuki who's trying to bond with him, but only freezes him because he's just a regular human. To warm him up until Koyuki can get Tsurara's help, Michiru takes off their clothes and hugs him tight. Suzu, who was worried about him, is furious when she finds them.
%%* ItAmusedMe: Machi's reason for doing '''''everything''''' she's doing.
* ItIsDehumanizing: Ikuto defeated the other 3 lords of the island and is now looking for the West Lord, whose identity he never learned. Machi gives him a ride to where the West Lord said would challenge him along with [[spoiler: Karaage, the family chicken,]] that was watching his journey. When Ikuto doesn't see anyone there and asks when the Lord is coming, Machi can't believe that Ikuto still doesn't know who the Lord is and calls attention to [[spoiler: Karaage]]. When Ikuto still takes a while to understand, Machi eventually picks up [[spoiler: Karagge]] in frustration and shoves him in his face shouting "THIS!".
* IWantGrandkids: Guess.
%%* IWasQuiteALooker: Obaba.
%%* JackOfAllStats: Ayane.
%%* JawDrop: An epic one in chapter 5.
* JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind: Machi finds/creates a spell that allows her to do into a [[DreamLand persons dream.]]
%%* KidWithTheRemoteControl: Yukino.
* KillerRabbit: The South Leader, Shima-tora (cat) and the West Leader, [[spoiler:Karaage, a [[strike:rooster]] ''chicken'']], the latter of which was reputed to be the strongest of the Four Leaders.
** The East Leader could possibly count, too. After all, he is a cute (albeit large) fuzzy ''panda''.
* KillingIntent: Most main characters feel the killing intent when they are about to be attacked or when someone's very angry about them even from somewhere else on the island. In one case the girls felt a strong killing intent from outside the island [[spoiler:when Misaki found Ikuto's letter and is jealous that he's living with only girls.]]
%%* KlingonPromotion
%%* LadyLand: The island, obviously.
* LapPillow: Ikuto is the pillow for Machi while she is sick, and Suzu because she asked him which causes a three way brawl for his lap...
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: Michiru, daughter of [[HalfHumanHybrid an islander and a Yuki-onna]] and Obaba's medical apprentice. First appears during the ''end credits'' of the last episode. The manga has since {{retcon}}ned her into the very beginning of the story: she is now seen helping treat Ikuto when he first shows up on the island. Her late appearance is explained away as a consequence of being the daughter of a snow woman, a spirit associated with winter. She is immune to cold but sensitive to heat, and thus rarely went outdoors to avoid the sun.
* LastOfHerKind: This is what Tohno believes when she thinks there's no more Kappa on the island. As it turns out, she's not and Ayane and Tohno didn't seem to ask Chizuru of all people due to her hilariously horrific artwork.
%%* LawOfChromaticSuperiority: In Machi and Ayane's clan, a red hakama is proof of a first class miko.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: Done time to time, but chapter 65 takes the cake.
** There is a tendency of the characters to measure time by the issue number, [[LampshadeHanging only to be corrected by another character.]]
** Oba-sama is getting tired of Ikuto not making progress with any girl on the island, even though 50 issues have passed already.
** In one bonus chapter Suzu picks up an ad from the beach. Ikuto reads that Nagasarete Airantou will become an anime and notes that the manga is still going. Suzu doesn't understand and says to be careful with his words. Afterwards he wonders how Tonkatsu would be animated to move.
** The flashback chapters starring Suzuran and Karaage are chock-full of this. Notably, when narrating a certain event in the flashback, Karaage compares Suzuran to a demon, only for Suzuran to [[BerserkButton go berserk]] and '''point at Karaage's ''dialogue box''''' while beating him up.
** Later Karaage talks about older boys getting interested in girls and Suzuran blushes thinking about herself. Then violently kicks him into a tree correctly guessing he thought "What the heck would guys think is sexy about you?" Karaage says her kick was so fast the readers would think they skipped a page.
* LethalChef:
** {{Double subver|sion}}ted with Machi. After she takes lessons in cooking, it still looks like the stuff is literally ''cursed''... but actually tastes quite good. The catch? She makes A ''lot'' of food, and won't let you leave until you eat it ''all'' of it.
** In the {{Manga}}, she leaves behind a truly frightening mess of what used to be the kitchen that some [[ButtMonkey unlucky soul]] has to clean up.
%%* LikeFatherLikeSon: They won't admit it but Ikuto and his father are alike according to Gento.
%%* LightningBruiser: Some of the cast are this.
* LimitedWardrobe: One early chapter has Suzu wondering what to wear...[[LampshadeHanging and the manga goes out of its way]] to point out that she was choosing between ''two identical clothes''.
* LockedInARoom: An interesting variation where its more tied together suspended from a bridge. Ikuto uses this time to find out why Ayane has been avoiding him.
* LongRunners: As of 2023 the manga has ''forty volumes'' and shows no sign of stopping - maybe not too impressive compared to some {{Shonen}} juggernauts, but damn respectable for a harem series. In fact, it's the oldest still-active series in ''Monthly Shonen Gangan'', beating out [[Literature/ACertainMagicalIndex the next-closest contender]] by five years.
%%* LostWorld: The titular island.
%%* LoveHurts:
* LovesMeNot: Machi does this with a VoodooDoll. When she got "Ikuto won't come" she says it was practice and tries again. Later Ikuto finds her with the entire room flooded with used voodoo dolls.
%%* MadScientist: Chikage. During one certain storyline, she becomes a [[spoiler:CuteWitch, ironically enough]].
* MadeOfIron: It seems like Ikuto learned this by being on the island. In the beginning he would actually have to rest a day after being beaten to a pulp. Now he can [[spoiler:fight all 4 guardians, fall in a river, get eaten by a fish, and still be perfectly fine the next day.]] He has come a ''very'' long way. He may have always been this. He drifted at sea for 7 days without any food or water with no visible discomfort. He may have just been recovering from that still in the get go which explains how weak he was in the beginning.
%%** Ayane and Shinobu are noted in story to be exceptionally tough.
%%* MagicSkirt: Used in the anime, but noticeably [[PantyShot absent]] in the manga.
%%* MasterApprenticeChain: Suzuran --> Karaage --> Ikuto --> Shinobu
%%* MasterOfNone
* MayDecemberRomance: Funnily enough, ''this'' is what started the series. [[spoiler:Because Ikuto's mom was missing, he thought his father was planning to remarry, causing him to find her and revoke it, leading to him running from home after the fight with him. Misaki later revealed that his ''grandfather'' is remarrying. Meaning the ''entire'' series started because of a misunderstanding and this trope]]. Ikuto has every right to be {{Squick}}ed by this revelation.
%%** {{Subverted|Trope}} by Chikage, whose expected personality quickly gives way to MadScientist.
%%** Played straight with her mom Shizuka [[spoiler:although it turns out that she's also ''Beniyasha''.]]
* {{Metaphorgotten}}: lampshaded: Suzuran makes up her own proverb, and a couple of horses turn up to ask her why they were the ones in the proverb.
%%* MightyGlacier: Pandaro, the East Leader.
%%* {{Miko}}: Ayane, Machi, Chizuru, Yashiro.
%%* MiniatureSeniorCitizens: ''The'' Grandma.
%%* MissingMom: Ikuto's mom is still not mentioned in the series. [[spoiler:Until chapter 125.]]
%%* MamaBear: [[spoiler: Ikuto's mother ''did not'' take kindly to her husband's fight with Ikuto]].
* MomentKiller: Many times. The one that stands out would be when [[RobotMaid Sakuya]] '''swears''' that Ikuto and [[spoiler:Suzu]] would never get disturbed, only for ''Sakuya'' to spoil the biggest one herself.
* MoodWhiplash:
** Beniyasha makes his dramatic exit, ominously announcing his plans to an aspiring detective that plans to capture him...[[spoiler:and is interrupted by Panako shouting her a message. Cue the epic FaceFault, from ''[[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments Beniyasha herself]]'', no less.]]
** Karaage attempts to [[spoiler:attack Takatora since the former thought that he was going to break Suzuran's feelings]], only for Takatora to tap into Karaage's "playful side".
* {{Multishot}}: With Michiru's [[spoiler:half snow fairy]] powers she can control her arrows' flight. So she sometimes sends [[{{Arrowgram}} notices to the village]] multiple arrows at a time. And one time in battle with a youkai, her arrows kept getting blocked. So while Ayane distracts it, [[https://i.imgur.com/jAIfwZ1.png she prepares]] about a hundred arrows in one shot.
* MundaneWish: In the anime version of a story the characters find a genie that will grant 7 wishes. The wishes end up being: mame daifuku, "give me a second to think about it", "the previous wish didn't count", some candy, catch Chikage, release me, a cup of tea. Also, the purpose of finding the genie was to reverse the spell Chikage put on the whole island.
%%* MyBelovedSmother: Suzu's protective of Tonkatsu, and one chapter is dedicated to showing it.
%%* NakedApron
* NeverFoundTheBody: Sort of. No mention is ever made of the bodies of the men of the island being buried, and there are no graves or even markers of for them. This might all just be ConservationOfDetail in a light and soft series[[spoiler: until we find out that Machi and Ayane's dad is still alive, in the same boat as Ikuto's family, is apparently using magic and shikigami to find Airantou, and is with men who look suspiciously like the main haremettes' dads. The other men are similarly alive and are working, some are under the employ of the Touhouin family.]]
%%* NeverGotToSayGoodbye: Ikuto to his family when he ran away from home.
%%* NeverMessWithGranny
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Everyone widely (and correctly) assumes that [[spoiler:it was Chikage's own fault why Suzu hates studying...]]
%%* NightmareFetishist: Machi. Oh '''''GOD''''', Machi. Apparently, she gets from her mother, who unknowingly is unaware her works of art makes people and Kappa uneasy.
* NoPeriodsPeriod: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] according to Ayane in regards to Suzu, as she hasn't started menstruating yet.
%%* NoSenseOfDirection: Shinobu could give Manga/{{R|anmaOneHalf}}yoga and [[Manga/OnePiece Zoro]] a run for their money, if they could find it, that is.
* NoSocialSkills: Since men have long since vanished from the island, most of the current generation of girls have lost much of modern society's norms on ethical behavior towards men in public, hence their constant bombardment of fetish appeal towards Ikuto (see above) and they think there's nothing wrong with that.
** Subverted with Rin, who actually tries to seduce him at one point by deliberately taking his hand and putting it on her breast knowing the implications (and [[TheImmodestOrgasm she squirms and moans from the sensation]] too). Also, she's the only female who screams in embarrassment and scolds Ikuto for stumbling on to her while she's bathing naked.
* NoodleIncident: No one wants to elaborate why Sakuya wrecked her own inn that one time.
* {{Nosebleed}}: Ikuto, [[OverusedRunningGag constantly]] and [[OverdrawnAtTheBloodbank massively.]] One time Suzu even describes his reaction as Ikuto exploding.
%%** ''Nagasarete Airantou'' may very well be the king of this trope.
%%** Misaki gets these from cute animals.
%%* NotHimself
* NotSoWeak: Pandaro, The East Leader. He may be the ButtMonkey among of the Four Leaders but is the Leader to the ''most dangerous place'' on the island. ''And'', he has a '''chimera''' as an UnknownRival that could hardly dent him.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: You'd never guess ([[TheUntwist at first]]) that [[spoiler:Karaage, the goofy-looking family [[strike:man]] chicken]] is one of the island's most powerful residents...
* ObliviousToLove: There are a few in the cast, but [[spoiler:Ikuto]] gets a special mention.
** [[spoiler:He both {{subvert|edTrope}}s ''and'' plays this trope straight. The reason he never lets any of the girls too close is that he knows they don't really mean it. They are more interested in the fact that he is the only man on the island than the man himself. Played straight when the girls really ''do'' begin to develop real feelings for him, and he still thinks its the idea of love the girls are acting on.]]
*** Wow, [[spoiler:Ikuto]] shows us how this is done, [[SerialEscalation and the manga is still ongoing]].
-->[[spoiler:'''Ikuto''': In the end...I still don't understand why Machi suddenly kissed me...]]
* OhCrap:
** Whenever Machi gets angry, expect ''anyone'' to have this expression.
** [[spoiler:Karaage's face when he realizes that Ikuto switched the hand that was holding his sword. It was awesome.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook:
** Machi is '''18'''. [[BerserkButton Just don't say she's old.]]
** Kagami, Yukino's mother, who looks like she's around Yukino's age.
* OpeningShoutOut: The end of the anime is a bird's eye view of Ikuto being chased around the island, exactly like the chase shown in the [=OP=].
* OurGhostsAreDifferent: Oh, yeah.
** They can be touched, normally speak only in "Bake"s (Japanese word for ghost), can fly, and can possess people, for that extra bit of ParanoiaFuel.
** None of them are really evil, though.
* OutOfCharacterAlert: Suzu figures out that Ikuto [[spoiler:was replaced by Genjumaro because of Ikuto's ArbitrarySkepticism, which Genjumaro didn't possess.]]
** [[spoiler:Genjumaro makes this [[IdiotBall same]] mistake again! He was giving Mei Mei a gift though so [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation he may have made the mistake on purpose to be found out]] and gather praise from her.]]
* OutOfContextEavesdropping: First, Mikoto partially overhears a conversation between Ikuto and Ayane and assumes they are going on a date so she and Suzu spies on them for the day. When they eventually end up at Ayane's room, Mikoto assumes they are finally doing "something better than kissing". And they overhear Ayane telling Ikuto to be more gentle with wrapping his hands around something he finds softer than he thought. [[spoiler: They were making rice cakes for Suzu]].
* OverlyLongGag: Ikuto challenging the whirlpools in the first episode/chapter. Over and over and over...
%%* OverlyLongName: [[AllYourPowersCombined Weather Charm 1-2-3-Shikis' Muramasa.]]
%%** Even {{lampshade|Hanging}}d.
* OvernightAgeUp: Chapter 81-82 for Yukino. [[spoiler:In the end, she [[FountainOfYouth ages down to a baby]], much to Chikage's delight.]]
%%* OvertookTheManga: The anime covers a small chunk of the manga.
* ParentalSubstitute: After Suzuran's disappearance, Karaage said that he took it upon himself and his family to look after Suzu.
%%* PetitePride: Ayane, much to her displeasure.
* PetTheDog: According to the most recent chapter, Taiga has mellowed down somewhat, dropping by Mei Mei's every once in a while to give her a gift. Tohno, being TheTease that she is towards Mei Mei, [[InterspeciesRomance hilariously guesses that there might be another reason why.]]
%%* PintsizedPowerhouse: Machi.
%%** The West and South Leaders qualify as well.
* ThePiratesWhoDontDoAnything: The [[{{Delinquent}} Shiritori Group]] lasted only a week before Suzuran broke them up. Even during that week, all they do is [[PokeThePoodle do what normal birds do]].
%%** See FelonyMisdemeanor.
%%* PlayboyBunny: Suzu and Ayane. Naturally, Chikage helped them.
* PleasePutSomeClothesOn: Suzu mostly because he lives with her, but he says it to just about every girl in his UnwantedHarem at one point or another.
* {{Polyamory}}: About the only way humanity is gonna survive on the island. Even then there is gonna have to be some sort of first [[KissingCousins cousin]] marrying going on.
%%** Grandma says that it's cool, but difficult.
* PottyFailure:
** Implied to happen to Ayane at the end of chapter 72. Ayane also accuses Suzu of having been a bed-wetter until just a year or so ago.
** Apparently for Suzu it's InTheBlood; Suzuran used to wet her bed until pretty late on, according to Karaage.
** Happened to Yukino in chapter 47, when she’s startled on her way to the bathroom at night.
%%* ThePowerOfFriendship: Is used to transform as [[spoiler:Devil Sky Dragon Muramasa]].
* PrecisionFStrike: Ikuto when [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome punching a white bear]] that had just terrified Ayane and Suzu into defeat.
%%* PsychoLesbian: Mikoto.
* ReadyForLovemaking: Ikuto has had at least Shinobu show up in his bed naked asking him to make a baby with her. Not that she knows what sex is but whatever...
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: [[spoiler:Misaki defeats the incredibly powerful Taiga by bitching to him on how much of a horrible husband. Taiga begs Ikuto to take her away]].
%%* RedHerring: Chikage in the first Beniyasha StoryArc.
%%* RememberTheNewGuy: Michiru. {{Lampshaded}} {{r|unningGag}}epeatedly.
* RememberedICouldFly: In chapter 112, after babysitting a young bird who could fly, Ikuto notes to Kamokamo since he was a duck, he should be able to fly. Kamokamo replies he forgot.
%%* RescueRomance: Is the point when Suzuran acknowledges her [[{{Tsundere}} deeply-hidden]] feelings for Takatora.
* RetiredBadass:
** {{Subverted|Trope}}; even though [[spoiler:he's finally settled in with a family]], the West Leader is still the protector of his area, and still enforces the law. Although, Taka-Taka did point out that he doesn't take things more seriously anymore.
** Sumeragi the shaved-ice penguin. [[TemptingFate Ikuto shouldn't have challenged him]] even though he was already informed beforehand [[spoiler:that Sumeragi used to be one of ''Karaage's [[TheRival rivals]]!'']]
* RidiculouslyHumanRobots: Wait, [[RobotMaid Sakuya]] can ''blush?!''
%%* TheRunaway: Ikuto's a Type 2.
* RunningGag: There are many, but '''one issue alone''' saw two running gags involving Taka-Taka's nephew Piyomaru: the chick's obsession with biting ''anything'' that sparks its interest, and people mistaking that he's Taka-Taka's ''illegitimate child''.
%%* SayItWithHearts: Happens frequently, but chapter 8 contains a rather ...humorous example.
%%* SamusIsAGirl: [[spoiler:Beniyasha.]]
%%** Tohno as well, since everyone (except possibly Mei Mei) actually mistook her for a man until the mass-ForcedTransformation episode.
%%* ScarfOfAsskicking: Shima-tora.
%%* ScaryShinyGlasses
%%* SceneryCensor: Chapter 73 contains the best example ever.
* SecretKeeper: [[spoiler:Chikage and Panako]], on Beniyasha's identity.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: It turns out that [[spoiler:the first Beniyasha StoryArc is actually a test to see if Ikuto can become the serial prankster's next WorthyOpponent.]]
%%* TheSevenMysteries: Airantou has Seven Wonders. Almost all of them seemed to be caused by the aliens though.
* ShipperOnDeck:
** Apparently, Shinobu doesn't find it strange that her sister Kunai's attracted to Togeta.
** It might count as just being teased, but still...Karaage, you trying to imply something? The smirk on your face seems to support the idea anyhow.
-->'''Karaage''': ''Right now, the both of you really [[LikeAnOldMarriedCouple look like a married couple]] arguing over what to do with their son's education.''
** Following in Karaage's own opinion above, Tonkatsu itself believes that Ikuto and Suzu are its parents.
** Karaage also ships Takatora/Suzuran, in a weird way.
** Tohno ships Ikuto/Mei Mei.
** And oddly enough, [[spoiler:Machi]] ships Ikuto/Ayane.
** [[spoiler:The fathers of the main haremettes, who are on Gento's boat, ship their own daughters with Ikuto.]]
*** [[spoiler:They also ship Ikuto with Misaki.]]
* ShipwreckStart: The basic premise of this harem series is that the main character, Ikuto, gets shipwrecked and ends up stranded on an island with only women.
%%* {{Shorttank}}
* ShoutOut: That speech Suzuran gave Karaage seems very [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann familiar]]...
** That, and Karaage's tendency to point his feather to the sky...yeah.
** Machi keeps a painting of a StringyHairedGhostGirl [[Film/TheRing stepping out of a well]].
** Ikuto's bag contains several mangas, including Manga/FullMetalAlchemist.
** Several of the Jizou statues shown in Chapter 71 are clear references to [[Franchise/{{UltraSeries}} Father of Ultra, Mother of Ultra and Ultraman King.]]
%%* ShrinkingViolet: Mei Mei. She gets better, most of the time...
* ShroudedInMyth: Ikuto's "theory" on the West Leader's identity.
-->'''Ikuto''': ''Just what kind of a monster is he?''
-->[[spoiler:'''Karaage''':]] '''''Who's''' the monster?''
** Ikuto himself became this when the Leaders narrate their experiences with him to Shinobu before the latter ever met him.
* ShyFingerTwiddling: Done by [[spoiler:Suzuran in reaction to Takatora's request to marry her, she then brutally attacks him, though in a loving way.]]
%%* SiblingRivalry: Ayane and Machi.
%%* SiblingYinYang: Ayane and Machi.
* SillyMeGesture: Yukino does this even though she lives on an island cut off from the outside world which makes it confusing where she picked it up from.
* {{Sneezing}}: On one infamous occasion, it was combined with a {{nosebleed}}.
* SortingAlgorithmOfEvil: The order that Ikuto fights the Leaders in the Scavenger Hunt: East (widely considered the weakest), South (however, his battle relied more on trickery than brute strength and power, so his position in the order only depended on the difficulty of his challenge), North, and finally, the West (whoever's superior between these two was sometimes contradictory; while the latter is often called the strongest fighter on the island, he himself admitted that the North was in "a class all his own").
%%* SoundEffectBleep: Mei-Mei when she forgets the covert part of CovertPervert.
* SpotTheImposter: One chapter is about Machi trying to recapture a shapeshifting Genjumaro along with Ikuto and Suzu. It ends up with trying to identify it when it transformed into Mei-Mei. Ikuto manages to find it by making up a detail on her body. [[spoiler: Except Ikuto was actually the Genjumaro. And the fake Mei-Mei was real Ikuto knocked out and transformed. Suzu suspects this since [[ArbitrarySkepticism he]] was [[OutOfCharacterAlert oddly accepting of magic]] during the search. Another unmentioned hint to the readers is when he wasn't nosebleeding while Machi was drying her clothes.]]
* StatusQuoIsGod: Except for a few things, like the arrival of Mei Mei, Ikuto's accustomization to the weirdness of the island and [[spoiler:Ayane developing an actual attraction to Ikuto]], the chapters could be read in almost any order and still make sense. This said, there is a running time line, since almost all chapters go right from the end of the previous chapter.
* StayInTheKitchen: Played around with. Ikuto is probably the weakest person on the island. He eventually starts to continue his kendo training from before his arrival on the island to overcome this fact.
** Played straight with Ikuto's family motto being Protect Women. Which is why he always is the one to fight, and the one to chase after any girl in trouble. The women of the island act with confusion to the idea, but respect his determination. It works for him in spite of many people being stronger than him because the worst person we have seen so far is [[DirtyOldMan a lecherous panda]].
** Michiru wishes for this.
* StealthEscortMission: Tonkatsu is eager to go on a delivery errand to the South Lord. A worried Suzu follows him after a warning from Ikuto that she must not help or be seen. After several troubles, Tonkatsu succeeds and he and Suzu returns home to find Ikuto sleeping after preparing a giant Tofu. [[spoiler: Ikuto also followed and managed to help Tonkatsu without being noticed by either of them.]] Suzu learns from Shima-tora, Karaage and Ikuto to trust the kids to learn from experience and only help by being unnoticed.
** When Mei-Mei goes on a date with Ikuto, Tohno protects her from the other jealous girls planning to ambush her. Then she has to keep throwing things at her to stop her from saying erotic stuff in front of Ikuto. And then suspicious of Ayane's map she keeps an eye on them although there were [[ExactWords no pranks set by her]], except that [[spoiler: the last area is within East Lord's territory]].
* StealthHiBye: A number of characters pull this off in the manga, but the master has got to be Machi. On one memorable occasion she shows off by appearing between Yukino ''and the animal that Yukino is currently riding on.''
* StealthMentor: The West Leader for Ikuto, who ''doesn't know who the West Leader is'', before TheUntwist. Later becomes a TricksterMentor of sorts.
** LockedOutOfTheLoop: The West Leader ''insisted'' to the islanders that his identity be kept a secret from Ikuto just because he thinks it'll be more fun that way.
* StealthPun: One chapter has Tonkatsu "squealing" to Chikage about Suzu going truant.
* StepfordSmiler: According to Karaage, Suzu's default expression before Ikuto arrived on the island.
* StoneWall: Ikuto's fighting strategy is the Turtling variety using his superior swordsmanship to block and redirect blows, also he can take a few hits himself, as noted by Karaage.
* StrangeMindsThinkAlike: Mei-Mei thinks the animal costumes she made are cute but they are based on the realistic animals from outside. [[{{Kappa}} Tohno]] says that it's even giving her nightmares and recommends not taking them to the village. [[spoiler:Ayane]] took the lion costume and accidentally scares some villagers while trying to see Ikuto. After she's caught she says she finds it cute too to Mei-Mei's delight. Tohno just says both of them are weird.
%%* SurvivalMantra: Played for laughs.
%%* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: Chapter 72. Why would she say that instead of asking for help?
%%* TacticalRockPaperScissors: Genjuumaru beats Machi who beats Ayane who defeats Genjuumaru.
%%* TalkingAnimal: Most of them.
* TemptingFate: After the ''many'' times Ayane tried to one-up her sister, you'd think she'd ''ever'' learn? ''Noooo...''
%%* ThanksForTheMammary: Ikuto.
%%* TomatoSurprise: Played for laughs with [[spoiler:the West Leader, who never knew that he was a chicken (i.e. couldn't fly) until he was ''6+ years old''. He even had a HeroicBSOD right afterwards...]]
%%* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Tohno and Mei-Mei, apparently.
* TookALevelInBadass: After some training, Ikuto can now go toe to toe against the Leaders. [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg Oh, and the Panda, too.]] Sure, when he last fought them the battles were non-"traditional", but still...
* TooDumbToLive: For their mother's birthday, Shinobu, Mikoto and Kunai decide to give her a grandchild as a present. Which is the person they each chose to "do it" with them? [[CelibateHero Ikuto]], [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer Rin]], and '''Togeta''', respectively. At least Shinobu's choice was biologically possible, but there was no way she could pop out a kid by the next day, let alone the fact that she does not know what sex is, or at least that's how one makes a baby. Apparently it is rather common to not know what sex is and be in the {{harem}}. Ayane [[DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale paralyzed him and was going to try and get pregnant]] with his child so that he could not leave the island. She never expected to get [[ButtMonkey this far]] in her plans anyway. This may be {{justified|Trope}} because there were no men on the island up till now so teaching your girls about the birds and bees may have seemed a waste of time. You would think that they would have got a crash course though once Ikuto showed up.
* ToughLove: Machi really ''does'' care for her little sister Ayane. She just has a...weird way of showing it. She even [[LampshadeHanging said so herself]]. While there's good reason to doubt this statement, Machi actually provides a visual example [[spoiler:by giving Ikuto himself an example of her "love".]] FridgeBrilliance, folks.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Curry for Ikuto.
** Mame daifuku for Suzu.
** Spicy foods for Ayane.%%
** {{Justified|Trope}}, since [[BigEater Machi]] [[DoesNotLikeSpam does not like spicy foods]], so these are the only things left for Ayane to eat freely.
%%** Cold foods for Michiru. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], since she's [[HalfHumanHybrid half-]][[AnIcePerson Yuki]][[{{Youkai}} -onna]].
* TrainingFromHell: Apparently Ikuto had this in the past from his grandfather.
** Mei-Mei, Suzu, and Shinobu decide that Ikuto needs this to overcome his fear of bathing with people. Although it's more like training from [[{{Pun}} marshmallow]] [[MarshmallowHell hell.]] Actually it did just about kill [[{{Nosebleed}} him.]]
** Karaage went through this to learn how to fly. Although being a chicken that goal is impossible, but it did turn him into an amazing fighter.
** Subverted with Michiru. She was ignoring her mother's letters to finish her snow fairy training because she didn't specify what it is or how long it will take ("depends on how well she does"), it's hard for her to leave the house, and she's worried about the other girls spending a lot more time with Ikuto than she can. When she eventually meets her after rescuing Ikuto from a snowman youkai, she says her training is already finished. Defeating the snowman was all she had to do so that it's bound to her as its master.
* {{Tsundere}}: Most notably [[spoiler:Suzuran, Suzu's mother.]] She is never honest with herself, especially with regards to her crush [[spoiler:Takatora, who's Suzu's father.]]
%%** Apparently [[spoiler:[[InTheBlood runs in the family]]]] since Suzu is growing into something like one herself...
* TheUnreveal: Before the West Leader's identity was actually unveiled, it's a RunningGag for Ikuto to ask about him only for something to happen before he gets his answer. While the readers are clued in on the Leader's identity [[spoiler:by Chapter 28]], but the RunningGag for Ikuto stays until the climax of the Scavenger Hunt.
%%* UnwantedHarem: The women are determined to have the Ikuto, the only male, to themselves, to an often violent degree.
%%** CursedWithAwesome[=/=]BlessedWithSuck: Ikuto, like the center of ''some'' {{harem}}s, constantly refers to it as both "heaven" ''and'' "hell".
* VerbalTic: Shinobu's sentences always end in "-degozaru".
** Typical for the anthropomorphic talking cats (and [[CatGirl Suzu]]), they are prone to make "~nya" sounds when they speak.
* VictoriasSecretCompartment: Suzu. Episode 22. That is all.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Shima-tora's wife, Myaa, who can change her appearance between a cat and CatGirl. Shima-tora can do it, too, but it's best that no one ''sees how he does it'', as Suzu and Tonkatsu found out the hard way.
* VoodooDoll: Machi often uses this to cause pain whenever someone upsets her even for minor things. Especially on her little sister Ayane.
%%* WackyMarriageProposal: Takatora to Suzuran. Wacky as in not to how he proposed, but on how she ''reacted''.
* WeakButSkilled: Ikuto is one of the physically weakest people on the island, at least at first more arguably now, but that does not stop him from fighting at all.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Why Did It Have to Be Heights, Ghosts, Age, Kappas, Worms, Ane-san...?
* WorthyOpponent: The Leaders to each other, as the flashback StoryArc shows. Although, the North sometimes holds contempt for the East, while seeing some potential in Ikuto himself.
%%* WrestlerInAllOfUs: Obaba. No, ''really.''
* WrongGenreSavvy:
** Ikuto, Ayane, and Suzu see Rin barely conscious after having eaten Machi's cooking, assume that Machi is a LethalChef. When they actually eat her cooking they find there's nothing wrong with it, it's just that she forces them to eat FAR more of it than they can.
%%** In the manga version the trouble is that Machi somehow destroys the kitchen for every meal.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Played with. Suzu tells Ikuto that her mother is this but Karaage, who knows better, says that it is all a facade because Suzuran hopes that Suzu would not take after her.
%%* {{Yandere}}: Suzu arguably fits this trope the best and has yet to even realize why she fits it so well.
* YouDidntAsk: Konayuki had important information about her and Misaki's past that proves she is [[spoiler: born on the island and Tsurara's second daughter]]. After this information was revealed, this is Konayuki's reply when Misaki asks why she never told her.
%%* YouNeedToGetLaid: This memorable exchange:
%%-->'''Kagami:''' Karaage-chan, who is the same age as you, already had his own family. But you-
%%-->'''Taka-Taka:''' ''Shut up!'' Living a single life is my principle!
%%* YoungerThanTheyLook: In the case of Suzu, even {{lampshaded}}.
