''Akkan Baby'' is a {{shoujo|Demographic}} manga by Saya Miyauchi, which was serialized in ''Bessatsu Friend'' from 2001 to 2002 and compiled into three volumes.

The story revolves around the adventures of two 16-year-old TooDumbToLive rock band groupies named Yuki and Shigeru. These two meet at a concert and start having a carefree FriendsWithBenefits relationship until some of Shigeru's more down-to-earth friends mention the possibility of pregnancy. After some humor based on Shigeru's inability to read a pregnancy test, she discovers she's pregnant. HilarityEnsues.

!!''Akkan Baby'' provides examples of the following tropes:

* BabiesMakeEverythingBetter: Downplayed, but this seems to be the case of Puni's parents.
* BerserkButton: Don't make the pet seal of Yuki's father cry or he'll kick your ass.
** Yuki lets any and all personal insults slide off his back. Only disrepecting Shigeru or his friends will provoke his wrath.
* BigBrotherMentor: For what it's worth, Rui and Nina are very supportive and do what they can to help Yuki and Shigeru through Shigeru's pregnancy. Considering that the main characters are nothing more but groupies to Rui's band, it's quite commendable.
* ColorFailure:
** Yuki turns into a statue for four hours after learning that Shigeru is pregnant. He goes into an even worse state once Rui tells him it's up to him and Shigeru to decide whether they want to keep it or abort it (and scar Shigeru in the process).
** Shigeru's parents are white with shock when [[spoiler:Shigeru asks them if she can keep the baby.]]
* ComfortFood: PlayedForDrama, as [[spoiler: Mika put on weight due to eating as a way of coping with the stress of being pregnant with Puni and not being able to tell Shigeo]].
* CutenessProximity: Yuki when he first touches Puni after finding him on the doorstep. [[Heartwarming/AkkanBaby It's extremely endearing.]]
* DeanBitterman: To an extent, the new principal at the school. She bans electronics, makeup, shortened skirts, and jewelry, and even tries to ban male-female contact. [[spoiler:Cue Yuki bursting in late, carrying Shigeru (whose skirt is extremely short) - and then ends up blurting out she's pregnant. It doesn't end well.]]
* DeathGlare: Most prominent when Yuki finds out [[spoiler: Mika intended to abandon Puni]].
* DeconstructedTrope: Puni and the drama related to him. Along with showing just how hard it is to take care of a baby as two 16-year olds, it shows that not all teen couples think like Shigeru and Yuki and see teen pregnancy as something exciting. To most, it's actually frightening and not something that every teen is (or would be) ready for. This is seen with Puni's mother Mika, [[spoiler: who becomes completely stressed out because she was afraid to tell Shigeo about being pregnant, balloons in weight due to eating to cope with the stress and eventually tries to abandon Puni]] like a lot of teen mothers do (especially, when, unlike the main couple, they don't have any help/resources).
* DoorstopBaby: Puni, who was left on Yuki's doorstep in a cardboard box in a note.
* ExpressDelivery: Yuki thinks this has happened when Shigeru, only three months pregnant, brings Puni inside.
--> '''Yuki:''' It's already been born?!
* FriendsWithBenefits: Shigeru and Yuki's relationship, until romance ensues.
* GenderBlenderName: Shigeru is usually a boy's name, and Yuki can be a girl's name. This actually gets discussed in-universe when Yuki meets Shigeru's parents for the first time: Shigeru's mom never thought much about her daughter staying over at Yuki's place all the time because she thought that he was a girl. She also knew that Yuki's dad is rarely at home due to his job, so she thought that Yuki was a girl with problems that needed a good friend.
-->'''Kaoru''': But...that's right...even girls like you can be 'Shigeru'...so it's possible that...that was frivolous of me...
* GoodGirlsAvoidAbortion: Played VERY straight, at least in Yuki and Shigeru's case. PlayedWith in Mika's case, as she initially intended to get an abortion after [[spoiler:Shigeo left]], but she was too far along.
* HappilyMarried: Shigeru's parents.
* IWasQuiteALooker: Downplayed, as she isn't really bad-looking (and neither is she old), but Mika is a FormerlyFit example of this trope.
* JawDrop:
** Shigeru's parents' reaction after the ColorFailure.
** Yuki and Shigeru when they walk in on Rui and Nina having sex.
* JerkassHasAPoint: When Puni is rushed to the hospital due to Yuki and Shigeru's attempt to keep him warm via stacking futons on him, they get quite the tongue-lashing from the doctor who yells that they fail at being parents. Not exactly great bedside manner (it sends Shigeru into a temporary HeroicBSOD after Puni gets out of the hospital) but his anger is justified considering that Yuki and Shigeru could have killed Puni. For what it's worth, it motivates Shigeru and Yuki to do better (complete with parenting manuals).
* LoonyFan: Downplayed, but this is originally how Yuki and Shigeru endeared themselves to Rui and the rest of Conflict. Instead of going back home to Osaka, they follow Conflict's tour van. On ''bike''. Rui and the others found this to be so hilarious that they let them join them on tour.
* MakingLoveInAllTheWrongPlaces: Yuki and Shigeru initially start having sex because they accidentally stumble upon Rui and Nina having sex in the bushes and decide that they want to try it. They continue having sex, but unlike their idols, neither of them know what contraception is (much to the horror of anyone that asks them). It's no real surprise that Shigeru gets pregnant.
* MaternallyChallenged: As demonstrated with Puni, Shigeru and Yuki had no clue how to take care of a baby but they try and, after pulling a particularly dangerous stunt, they get chewed out, after which, they decide to do better, complete with parenting manuals.
* MeetCute: Shigeru and Yuki first meet each other over summer vacation at one of Conflict's concerts. They initially bond at overhearing the other gush about how cool Rui is.
* MissConception: Shigeru asks "What's a condom?" in all seriousness. Yuki is similarly unfamiliar with birth control.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Why Mika came back for Puni after [[spoiler: trying to abandon him]].
* NotQuiteTheRightThing: A rather light-hearted example, combined with some [[LethallyStupid lethal stupidity]]. Shigeru and Yuki really do have pure intentions but, unfortunately, lack a lot of common sense.
* NiceGirl: Shigeru, without a doubt. She frequently does her best to break up fights and arguments, and even tries to befriend the principal [[spoiler:despite the principal insisting it won't reverse her expulsion]].
* PapaWolf: Yuki is very protective of both Shigeru and Puni. In the case of the latter, it's to the point where [[spoiler: he initially refuses to give Puni back to his real mother once he found out that she originally intended to abandon him.]]
* PetTheDog: When the school principal [[spoiler:saves Shigeru from a miscarriage]].
* PoorCommunicationKills: Mika's boyfriend Shigeo is at first insensitive to her current state, even going so far as to make fun of her weight, but after Yuki accuses him of abandoning her because she was pregnant, he's completely shocked. [[spoiler: This is because Mika never even told him that she was pregnant. She was too afraid to tell him that she was pregnant with Puni, and he mistakenly believed that her being constantly sad around him, fidgeting like she had something to say and withdrawnness towards having sex with him meant that she hated him. Once he hears the truth, he's totally willing to raise the child with her, even going so far as to offer to marry her.]]
* ThisIsReality: After taking care of Puni, Shigeru and Yuki think that's proof that they can handle a kid and are confident that they can tell Shigeru's parents that they want to have the baby. Shigeru's father expectedly objects to this [[spoiler:and then runs away]], with her mother telling them that taking care of a baby for just a few days is obviously different from taking care of one for your entire life.
* RunningGag: Shigeru and Yuki asking what a condom is. Not to mention the unique reactions from the people around them when they hear that question.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: Yuki sees Puni being left on his doorstep as this, going by the fact that Puni's mother said she'd come back for him in one week. She comes back three days early, but as Rui correctly guesses, [[spoiler: she never had any intentions of coming back at first. Even though her guilt and love for Puni changed her mind, Yuki still takes this fact very poorly.]]
* TakeMyHand: When Mika is about to fall off the telephone pole, Yuki puts his contempt for her aside and grabs her hand to pull her up [[spoiler: ...but she falls anyway since a) Yuki is very scrawny and b) Mika is twice Yuki's weight. Luckily Rui and the neighbors save her from being a bloody mess on the pavement.]]
* TeenPregnancy: [[ThisIsYourPremiseOnDrugs On LSD (the manga, not the parents).]]
* TinkleInTheEye: Puni to Shigeru and Yuki.
* WhatTheHellHero: In one particularly misguided attempt to take care of Puni, Shigeru and Yuki pile up a mountain of futons on him in order to keep him warm. He stops breathing and they have to take him to the hospital, where they're rightfully chewed out by an angry doctor for such a stunt.
* WhoNamesTheirKidDude: [[spoiler: The name Shigeru and Yuki settle on for their son is Muni, after the onomatopoeia for his soft round cheeks.]]
