->'''Flora:''' Uncle Greeny, where are you?\
'''Greensleeves:''' I'm under the door, ya twits!\
'''Rod Rescueman:''' That's a pretty stupid place to be when people are knocking doors down.

Alice is approaching a door, or is standing beside or in front of a door, when abruptly the door is thrown open from the other side by Bob. Alice is then revealed to have been {{squ|ashedFlat}}ished against the wall by the door when it was smashed open.

While this is a type of {{Slapstick}} that is very common in animation, being hit by a door happens in live-action media also (not to mention real life). Definitely a case of TruthInTelevision: if you've ever seen a sign on a door warning you to open it slowly, chances are that sign was put up ''after'' someone got clobbered by that particular door.

There's also a second variant, where someone is rushing at an open doorway for whatever reasons he or she may have... only to have someone else close the door. This trope applies when the runner ends up splatted on the door; if they make it through, it's normally ImpactSilhouette, and if the runner dives through a narrowing gap, you have an IndyHatRoll variant.

Compare with DoorJudo, DoorFu, and AutomaticDoorMalfunction. Sister trope to TaeKwonDoor -- for when this is weaponized during a fight. See also ToyotaTripwire for the car variant. Might be the deed of a GhostButler, or a side effect of TacticalDoorUse. Can also overlap with FacePlant. JustForFun/NotToBeConfusedWith HeelFaceDoorSlam, although one might slam a reformed villain to death with a literal door.

This trope is not exclusive [[RussianReversal to Soviet Russia]].

** There's also a LeftTheBackgroundMusicOn version where Nielsen knocks down a band playing the ''Naked Gun'' theme. [[DestructiveSaviour As per usual, he never notices any of these incidents]].
* In another Leslie Nielsen ad, {{Japanese tourist}}s are photographing a Dutch windmill when Nielsen suddenly opens the windmill's door, knocking the miller into the path of the sails. Nielsen then proceeds to explain the benefits of Dutchtone, unaware that the tourists gasps of amazement are over the miller traveling round and round on the windmill sails.

* ''Manga/ACertainScientificRailgun'': Wallslam, thanks to a door thrown open by dorm mistress infuriated with the late-evening ruckus, ends Kuroko's rowdy chase in the end of episode 6 of anime first season (it was Kuroko's one-sided decision to consummate the newfound appreciation her roommate eponymous character showed after having tried out the same part-time job earlier same episode).

And ''then'' Futaba-chan comes by in a hurry and slams the door against Takane as she is starting her own speech.
* ''Manga/HanaukyoMaidTeam La Vérité'' episode 7. As Konoe Tsurugi is waiting on one side of a door, her lieutenant Yashima Sanae slams open the door from the other side and smashes her in the face, giving her a temporary bloody nose.

Instead of getting to use his ImplausibleFencingPowers though, an angry Fujiko barges in, opening the door with such force it smashes Goemon behind it.
* Happens regularly in ''Manga/MonsterMusume'' to main character Kimihito Kurusu. Still played for comedy, but more justified than some examples given that it's super-strong monster girls who do it, almost always by hitting so hard that instead of slamming open and squishing him onto a wall, the door instead breaks off its hinges and pushes him into the floor using the greater weight of the girls' monster bodies.
* ''Manga/NagasareteAirantou'': The first time Ikuto visits Chikage's house, he wasn't expecting an elephant to open the door with enough strength to slam him into the wall.

* ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'':
** In the episode "Here Comes the Squirtle Squad", Ash is trying to buy some Super Potion for an injured Pikachu, and as he's running into the store, Gary opens the door and squishes Ash against the wall.

* ''Anime/{{Pecola}}'': This happens twice to the mysterious alligator in "Hide n' Go Sleep", once when Mr. and Mrs. Bernard slam their bakery's door on him and once when Hillary slams the art museum's door on him. The second time, the alligator is also SquashedFlat, mistaken by Hillary for being a poster that doesn't fit with the museum, and thrown away in a nearby trash can.
* Both Daichi and Mii gets slammed into the wall by Mai opening the front door at the wrong moment in the first episode of ''Anime/{{Popotan}}''.
* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'':
** One of the few times that Shampoo [[ThereWasADoor uses the door]] to enter the Tendō house, she flattens Akane behind it.
** Happens ''again'' to Akane when Ranma bursts into the bathroom to [[ItMakesSenseInContext say that he wants to see her breasts]]. Too bad Akane has come out several minutes before and is slammed ''quite painfully'' between the door and the wall... and hearing that Ranma wants to see her naked does ''not'' improve her day.
** And Ranma also does it to Kodachi in her own intro story just as the latter is about to attack Akane. She just twitches and spasms behind the door for a while.
** Sort of happens in the anime when Dr. Tōfū is introduced; startled by the good doctor appearing behind "her", Ranma leaps up onto the door. Akane comes barging in and slams the door shut, catching Ranma's fingers painfully between the door and the edge of the wall due to Ranma not having enough time to let go before being knocked out of the room.
* Happens in ''Franchise/SailorMoon'' to Usagi in [[Manga/SailorMoon the manga]], [[Anime/SailorMoon '90s anime]] and [[Anime/SailorMoonCrystal 2014 reboot]] when she is teased by her brother so she tries to kick him, but he closes the door and she ends kicking that instead. Ouch!
* In an episode of ''Manga/UruseiYatsura'', Ataru is trying to get out of his house and away from Lum, and slams the door in her face (literally) as he's exiting. An upset Lum pushes the door forcefully open and flies out to catch up to Ataru, but can't see him anywhere. A zoom in then shows that Ataru is flattened behind the door, his face ground into the wall.

Not so, which result in him being slammed against the floor when said door is torn of its hinges, and Obelix grumbling he should have listened. Repeated faithfully both in the AnimatedAdaptation ''WesternAnimation/AsterixAndCleopatra'' and the LiveActionAdaptation ''Film/AsterixAndObelixMissionCleopatra''.
* ''ComicBook/GastonLagaffe'':
** Gaston once invents a system that slams all other doors shut as soon as one is opened. Queue Prunelle, Lebrac and De Mesmaeker all getting a door to the face. A number of other gags also feature door antics.

* In ''Fanfic/MyHuntsmanAcademia'', Izuku gets a face full of door after he makes the mistake of walking up to his dorm room while Weiss is about to leave from the other side. It's treated more seriously than most examples, as the story explicitly states that he probably would have broken and bloodied his nose if not for his Aura.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animation]]

They're ''surprised,'' being as they're invisible, and work out a chain of events that doesn't mean they can be seen where Butler opened the door and hit one by accident. This assumption lasts until they get a good look at him looking directly back wearing unfamiliar goggles and a grin... OhCrap.
* A dramatic example in the ''Ashtown Burials'' series, when Nolan happens to be standing in front of the door that Maxi [[HandCannon blasts open with a ]]''[[HandCannon fireball]]'', and goes down under the door, the flames, and most of the wall. [[GoodThingYouCanHeal It doesn't stick.]]

** In "The Movies", Graeme manages to inflict one of these to ''himself'' -- he kicks open a door with enough force to have it bounce off the wall and slam in his face.
** Another variation in "Rome Antics". Graham finds himself on the wrong side of the door with Attila the Hun, who throws a spear at him. Fortunately the spear hits the door instead, but then Bill and Graham open the door causing the spear's shaft to knock over first Graham, then the other two whenever someone opens or closes the door.

* One episode of ''Series/{{MASH}}'' has Henry Blake walloped by the door to his office ''twice in one scene''. Apparently, he was either so dazed by the first impact or so distracted by the news that followed that it didn't occur to him to move out of the way before someone else did the same thing.
* Howard Moon gets this done to him by Mrs. Gideon in an episode of ''Series/TheMightyBoosh''. Then later he steps out from behind the door in a strange way that gets a second laugh out of the same joke.
* ''Series/MobCity''. Our introduction to William Parker has him as a rookie cop sent to negotiate with a shotgun-wielding hostage taker. The moment he turns the lock Parker rushes the door, grabs the shotgun and repeatedly slams the door into his face until he's knocked unconscious.
* Happens a few times in ''Series/TheNanny'' to Niles, CC and Fran. Especially CC, since she was usually found sitting on a leather couch behind the door in Maxwell's office.

** In the season 10 episode "Family Ties", Sergeant Siler slams into an open door after turning around while being [[DistractedByTheSexy distracted by Vala and Sam in civilian clothes]]. The last of a great number of bruises he received over working at the SGC for 10 years.

* In one episode of ''Series/TheThundermans'' named "You've Got Fail", Max tries to lock his sister Phoebe in a janitor's closet in order to sabotage her ballet show. Cue the janitor who comes by later on and hears her yelling for Max to let her out, and when he does -- '''"SLAM!"''' Phoebe bursts through the door and runs back into the auditorium to try to save her show. Unfortunately she wasn't aware she had slammed the janitor in between the door and the adjacent wall. When she leaves, the poor janitor [[CirclingBirdies slumps to the floor against the wall in a dazed stupor and goes unconscious with his eyes rolled back,]] when the door slowly swings back closed from the wall again.

[[/folder]]

-->'''The victim:''' ''[moments before]'' I finally got over my fear of standing next to closed doors! ('''WHAM!''') Uhh!
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Theatre]]
* Happens twice in British farce ''Theatre/CashOnDelivery'' to the Uncle, setting up the comic misunderstanding first that he's crazy (due to him being dazed) and then dead (because he's been knocked unconscious).
* ''Theatre/ThePlayThatGoesWrong'':
** Happens to Sandra, the actress playing the FemmeFatale (and her impromptu replacements).
** A variation is used in the sequel, ''Theatre/PeterPanGoesWrong'', as the actor playing Nana gets stuck in the door's dog-flap, and is repeatedly slammed headfirst into nearby props for the rest of the scene.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Video Games]]
* Some early video games with hinged doors can crush the player if they stand in the wrong place as it automatically closes. Build engine games are notoriously bad for that, especially ''VideoGame/RedneckRampage''. ''VideoGame/BloodIITheChosen'' has a possible GameBreakingBug where the player's position during a cutscene midway through the game is near one such door, meaning the player can be killed by the door without being able to do anything to prevent it.
* ''VideoGame/BonanzaBros'': Anyone who stands too close to a door as it opens will get slammed by it into the wall. It's a good way to stun enemies, but you need to be careful it doesn't happen to you too.
* Weaponized in ''VideoGame/DarkSoulsIII'' with the Giant Door Shield, which is just two halves of a huge wooden door [[ImprobableWeaponUser wielded as a pair of greatshields]] that can be used to ShieldBash enemies in different ways.
%%* ''Franchise/DeadSpace'' takes this trope to {{g|orn}}risly levels.
* ''VideoGame/{{Deponia}}'': In ''Chaos on Deponia'', Rufus's "ring the doorbell and hide" prank always backfires because of this trope. In fact, the puzzle requires it. When Goal's in Spunky mode, she'll eventually swing the door so hard she'll end up [[ImpactSilhouette leaving a Rufus-shaped dent in it]], which Rufus then uses to make a wax mold of his face.
%%(ZCE)* This happens to WesternAnimation/DonaldDuck a couple of times in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'' for comedic effect.
* A sidequest in ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky'' has you investigating an "assault case" that turns out to be the result of this trope. A man was found unconscious on a balcony with no sign of any assailant, turns out a door just clocked them on the back of the head.
* The lethal version of this trope shows up in ''VideoGame/MachineHunter'', where alien soldiers can be squashed into a pile of red goop if they happen to be between two closing doors. This happens regularly during the laboratory and hospital levels, and players are known to, instead of shooting aliens like the norm, trick them into standing between shutting doors instead.
* In ''VideoGame/PacMan2TheNewAdventures'', one of the obstacles you have to guide Pac-Man past is a neighbor's door; if you fail to get Pac-Man to stop at the right time, the neighbor will slam the door in Pac's face every time. And it can go with either variant: either Pac-man can be running full-tilt, only for the neighbor to peek out the door and Pac-man smashes into it. Or you can shoot the door and when Pac-man comes walking by, the man slams it open, flattening Pac-man against the wall.
* ''VideoGame/QuestForGloryI'' on two occasions. Standing in front of, or to the wrong side of Henry the Hermit's door when he opens it will send the hero flying off a cliff, or crush him between the door and a cliff face (he ''does'' warn you to stand clear).
* ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'':
** In ''VideoGame/PaperMario'', the first time you go to see Merlon, he knocks you down when he opens it.
** In ''VideoGame/PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor'', when you're working your way to the top of the Glitz Pit rankings, you let the promoter know when you're ready for the next fight, then wait for security to come get you. If you're in front of the door, you flail about as you're pushed out of the way.
** The falling doors in ''VideoGame/YoshisIsland''.
** Doors that aren't part of the room (refrigerators and cabins) in ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion'' will slam into Luigi if you try to open it. If you do, Luigi lose some health. The worse has to be the fake doors, because not only that you'll lose health, but he'll also be squashed flat as a paper. The ghosts will laugh at you for falling into this trick.
%%* This happens to an unfortunate nurse in the opening cinematic for ''VideoGame/ThemeHospital''.
* When going to rescue Date from gangsters in ''VideoGame/Yakuza1'', Kazuma Kiryu punts a door open and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icCqsBIUL_Y sends an unfortunate mook flying]].

As she's holding the door shut with her pursuers pushing on the other side, she looks over her shoulder and [[OhCrap sees the rest of the Claws waiting on the street behind her.]] The door is then forced down on top of her, and [[CommercialBreakCliffhanger she ends the scene]] pinned helplessly under the door while the Claws dogpile on top of it.

-->'''Doug:''' ''[narrating]'' Me and Porkchop were putting the finishing touches on our costume for the dance. And everything was going fine when, all of a sudden, it hit me.\

* In ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}'''s "Space Pilot 3000", Fry stares in awe of the automatic sliding doors that slide up. However, he's doing so ''directly'' under the door, so just as he says "Wow, just like in ''Star Trek''" the door closes down on him. Then mere moments later, he goes through another door and looks up, expecting the door to come down again. Only this time, it closes on him from the side.
* Occurs in an ''ComicStrip/USAcres'' quickie on ''WesternAnimation/GarfieldAndFriends''. [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/otherpeople2/usacres5.html And some strips had it as well]].
* ''WesternAnimation/HeyArnold'':
** Happens to Helga in the episode "Beaned". Arnold is holding the door open for everyone to enter the cafeteria because they're holding their trays and Helga assumes he'll keep it open for her as well.
