%%
A variation on the InsufferableGenius, this character is usually charismatic, incredibly good at what they do, and rather good-looking. Members of the same sex both admire and envy them, while those of the opposite fall all over them (often forming an InstantFanClub), and the only thing that saves them from being TheAce is their overwhelming arrogance and constant annoyance at being surrounded by people they see as idiots. They'll often make snarky comments on the current situation which show that they know much more about what's going on than anyone else, and answer any questions with the preface, "Are you so stupid you can't see it?"

This doesn't necessarily make them evil, though. (If anything, it's understandable, given the mindless way people often act around them.) They're just not a character who plays well with others and are therefore at risk of becoming an IneffectualLoner. Their snarkiness is usually brought low not with sarcasm, but a good old InsultBackfire.

Often paired or Foil placed in contrast with an insufferably cheerful, outgoing, nice, and/or idealistic character, and may act as TheLancer. This character is usually responsible for teaching the Tall, Dark and Snarky about ThePowerOfFriendship or ThePowerOfLove, once he or she has enough skill to make the Tall, Dark and Snarky actually respect their opinion. However, this can backfire, with the Tall, Dark and Snarky feeling threatened by the character's newfound power and becoming TheRival instead or, worse, give the idealistic guy a pair of JadeColoredGlasses to wear.

This archetype is also frequently used as a mentor or older brother type, used as a foil for the protagonist's optimistic and foolish nature. They also are a common choice for a villain role as well. See also TallDarkAndHandsome for the straight vanilla versions, though a good-looking enough example of this trope may double as both.

!!Examples:

* Doumeki Shizuka from Manga/XxxHolic is tall, never smiles, and is a master at snarking at Watanuki.
%%* Anime/AshitaNoNadja: Antionio Fabiani.
* Guts from Manga/Berserk isn't just tall (6'4") and handsome, he has quite a bit of snark in him as well.
%%* Roger Smith from Anime/TheBigO is well-behaved, but otherwise fits this trope perfectly. He may be too smooth to say how stupid people are being, but you can see it in his facial expressions.
* Manga/BlackButler: Sebastian, in spades. He's black-haired, tall, handsome, and usually talks down to others, even his master.
** William T. Spears certainly counts as well.
* Manga/BlackClover:
** Yuno is black-haired, handsome, 172 cm5'7" at the age of 15, and can be sharply critical with his honesty at times, especially around Asta and Klaus.
** Yami Sukehiro (who provides the page image) is tall, has black hair, and a sarcastic attitude especially towards his squad.
%%* Manga/BlackJack is absurdly hyper-competent, dresses like Dracula most of the time, and has a misanthropic streak the size of Tokyo.
* Uryu Ishida (though he defrosts a bit when he joins the TrueCompanions), Byakuya Kuchiki, , Ulquiorra Schiffer, and Shukuro Tsukishima of Manga/Bleach.
%%* Mui in Manwha/TheBrideOfTheWaterGod.
* Lelouch from Anime/CodeGeass is tall, handsome, arrogant and very snarky when especially around a certain green-haired lady.
%%* Synchro from Anime/CorrectorYui has dark skin and acts somewhat less aloof than the standard, but otherwise fits pretty well.
%%* This is an Abh's hat in Literature/CrestOfTheStars and its sequels. The guys mean business, and their snarkiness is well justified (for the most part), but God, are they arrogant...
* Yu Kanda from Manga/DGrayMan and Tyki, who, in fact, pretty much matches the title Tall, Dark and Snarky literally.
* Izaya Orihara from Literature/Durarara is a bizarre cross between this and MagnificentBastard. Clad all in black, oh-so appealing to the fangirls...and an Jerkass arrogant jerk who loves messing with people, to boot.
%%* Manga/Eyeshield21: Agon Kongo.
%%* TallDarkAndHandsome Dee from Manga/FAKE is a LovableSexManiac that also happens to be the series' ButtMonkey enamored with the resident male ingenue. So naturally, he has much to snark about.
%%* Tokiya Mikagami from Manga/FlameOfRecca, although he has light blue hair (or light brown, if you're watching the anime).
%%* Manga/FullmetalAlchemist: Roy Mustang has his moments.
%%* Naoki Shinjyo in Anime/FutureGPXCyberFormula is TheAce, and he's also moody and a jerk at first (especially when Kyoko makes a separate team for Aoi). He softens up in the later [=OVAs=], but it still shows up on occasion.
* Rei Otohata in Manga/Gals has been elected the most popular guy by a Gal magazine, but he's often cold and sarcastic towards Gals and her their lifestyle, thinking that they are shallow.
%%* Edmond Dantes/Gankutsuou of Anime/Gankutsuou.
%%* Shion Izumi from Manga/Gantz. The most brutal fighter on the team and an incurable smartass, as well.
* Manga/GetBackers: While not particularly tall, Ban Mido has dark hair, is a "combat expert" very well-read on a number of obscure subjects, and is the most arrogant, foul-mouthed member of the main cast. And a Type-A Tsundere, to boot.
%%* Hayato Jin from Manga/GetterRobo.
%%* Kazuya Shibuya from Manga/GhostHunt. Mai believes that he's so incredibly full of himself that she starts calling him "Naru" (shorthand for "narcissist") after she first meets him.
* Manga/Gintama: Hijikata has dark hair, is popular with ladies, snarky, and strict.
%%* Franchise/Gundam:
%%** Since Heero Yuy is too short (5'1"), Treize Kushrenada (181 cm)...only he is much more FABULOUS. He rarely outright says that people are being idiots, but you can tell that that's exactly what he's thinking.
%%** Rau Le Creuset from Anime/MobileSuitGundamSeed and Gilbert Durandal from Anime/MobileSuitGundamSeedDestiny.
%%** Tieria Erde (pre-CharacterDevelopment), Hallelujah Haptism, Lyle Dylandy, Lasse Aeon, Ali Al-Saachez (despite being a redhead), and Andrei Smirnov from Anime/MobileSuitGundam00.
%%* VillainProtagonist Alucard, BadassBookworm Walter Dornez, and JerkWithAHeartOfGold Pip Bernadotte of Manga/Hellsing. Even LadyOfWar Integra Hellsing has her moments.
%%* Mamoru Takamura from Manga/HajimeNoIppo.
%%* Roderich/Austria from Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers is more of a SugarAndIceGuy, but he approaches this when he's at his snarkiest.
%%* Sesshoumaru from Manga/InuYasha is a particularly deadly example of this trope. Helped along by the fact that he typically punctuates his snarks with incredibly devastating attacks.
* Anime/ItazuraNaKiss: Being an InsufferableGenius gave Naoki a rather sardonic sense of humor to match his very good looks. He's often snarking at Kotoko's lack of common sense or her poor performance at school.
%%* Reito Kanzaki from Anime/MyHime, to an extent. [[spoiler:His inner Obsidian Lord persona]] is just as snarky and several times darker.
%%* Caren from Manga/MermaidMelodyPichiPichiPitch.
%%* Manga/Naruto:
%%** Uchiha Sasuke, mainly in part one.
%%** Hyuga Neji is this too, both in part one and in Shippuden.
* Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion:
** Misato's ex-boyfriend, Ryoji Kaji, who even manages to deal the snark .
** Gendo Ikari is a MagnificentBastard version of this.
* Manga/OnePiece: Rob Lucci is an explicitly villainous version, although everyone around him does tend to act like morons.
** There is also Trafalgar Law, a DeadlyDoctor and SuperDoc who is also a cunning DeadpanSnarker.
* Kyoya-senpai from Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub has dark hair, ScaryShinyGlasses, and intense snark.
* George from Manga/ParadiseKiss is a Tall, Dark and Snarky dandy and InsufferableGenius with an outstanding talent as a fashion designer.
%%* Hayate from Manga/Pretear, though, half the time, he is snarky and acts like a jerk on purpose.
%%-->Hayate: [after Himeno falls and lands on him] You are so heavy! Dammit, there are limits even to stupidity. You jump out of a bush, land right on top of me, and expect I won't mind the inconvenience? Damn, you are heavy. I thought was gonna die.\
%%Himeno: Hey, don't you have any manners? Why didn't you ask, "Are you alright, miss?" before you tossed me aside?\
%%Hayate: Hey, I could say the same thing to you. You nearly crushed me when you came flying out of that hedge. You're very heavy!
%%* Yuushi Oshitari and Eishirou Kite from Manga/ThePrinceOfTennis.
* Fakir from Anime/PrincessTutu is taller than most of the show's characters, with dark hair and an endless supply of snark:
** In the first episode:
--->Fakir: [to Mytho] What were you thinking doing such a pointless thing?\
Ahiru: So like I said, he was protecting me!\
Fakir: That's why I said pointless.
** In Episode 14
--->Ahiru: Oh, Fakir, is your wound healed yet?\
Fakir: It had started to improve, but seeing your face again has triggered fresh stabs of pain.
* Manga/RanmaOneHalf: In the manga, although Ranma Saotome is an InsufferableGenius and a DeadpanSnarker, he's also one of the most optimistic people in the cast. So much so that when he tries to learn an attack based on depression, he fails because he's just too much of a happy person. In essence, he fulfills both the optimistic Hero role and the sarcastic, untrusting Lancer role.
-->Shampoo: This present for Ranma!\
Ranma: [looks at the oversized bell she's giving him] Just what I wanted. A huge metal acorn.
%%* Nozomu "Mr. Despair" Itoshiki of Manga/SayonaraZetsubouSensei.
* Ikuto from Manga/ShugoChara. Amplified by him being five years older than the rest of the cast, and the PowerOfLove bit with Amu isn't even subtle -- giant, heart-shaped IKnowYouAreInThereSomewhereFight attacks anybody.
%%* Rukawa Kaede and Hisashi Mitsui from Manga/SlamDunk.
%%* TheDragon and CreepyMonotone user Legato Bluesummers from Manga/Trigun.
%%* Studio Ghibli's Whisper of the Heart has Amasawa Seiji.
%%* Akira Inugami of Manga/WolfGuyWolfenCrest.
%%* Tsume of Anime/WolfsRain.
%%* Kuroyanagi Ryou from Manga/YakitateJapan.
* Hak, from Manga/YonaOfTheDawn, establishes himself as a SarcasticDevotee in his first appearance in chapter one (Princess Yona was complaining about her hair, to which he responds that there is nothing wrong with her hair but rather her head), and at least half of what comes out of his mouth is snark-laden. He also happens to be among the tallest characters of the cast, the greatest military genius known to the setting, and a chaste ChickMagnet who is completely devoted to Princess Yona.
%%* Seto Kaiba (6'1") from Anime/YuGiOh and his Expy, Kaiser Ryo Marufuji, in Anime/YuGiOhGX. Edo Phoenix also comes off as this type in the dub: "Now whether you like me or not, there's one fact no one out there can dispute: I'm the best. I can't be beaten."
%%* Hiei from Manga/YuYuHakusho is small, but he's definitely dark and snarky.

%%
%%* ComicBook/DoctorStrange: Doctor Strange at least in his backstory as Stephen Strange M.D., accomplished young neurosurgeon who was DrJerk and thought only of himself.
%%* Jackie Estacado, ComicBook/TheDarkness is a highly amusing mafia hitman with demonic powers. ComedicSociopathy style.
%%* The Shade, particularly after James Robinson's ComicbB the day you crossed me!\
%%Shade: If I had a "rue" for every time someone told me that, I'd own Paris.
%%* The ComicBook/SupremePower version of Emil Burbank/Master Menace is both an InsufferableGenius and Tall, Dark and Snarky. The mentally challenged Shape is the closest thing he has to a "cheerful" foil; it really says something about the Supremeverse that only a literal moron can be cheerful there.
%%

* Franchise/DisneyAnimatedCanon:
** Jafar from WesternAnimation/Aladdin is not happy a lot until he gets the lamp, wears a dark RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver robe and turban that contrasts with the palace, the Sultan, Jasmine, and "Prince Ali", is taller than everyone else except the Genie, and makes a few snarks. He's also called a "tall, dark and sinister ugly man" by the Genie.
** Scar from WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994. His fur is darker than his brother, King Mufasa's. The quote "I am surrounded by idiots" is among his most famous ones. It was directed at the incompetent hyenas.
** Chief Bogo of WesternAnimation/Zootopia is tall, strong, handsomely built, competent, honorable Chief of Police, greatly respected by his fellow officers. He is also not above making blunt, unforgiving, or snarky comments about other animals' thoughtless behavior as needed.
** Mother Gothel from WesternAnimation/Tangled is an EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette who is taller that Flynn Rider, the latter of whom is 6'1" according to WordOfGod. She also makes a lot of snarky comments throughout the film, including this gem to Rapunzel:
--->"Look in that mirror. I see a strong, competent, beautiful young lady. Oh, look. You're there, too!"
* Beret Girl from WesternAnimation/AnExtremelyGoofyMovie is a charismatic, bold, beautiful beatnik, loved by both the resident depressive ShrinkingViolet, PJ, and the resident manic AttentionWhore, Bobby, and very snarky. She is willing to get into an insult match with the PrivilegedRival JerkJock, Bradley, whose reputation is significantly higher than her own and to very bluntly reject Bobby's advances, even explicitly calling him a "fool." Her genuine compliments and interest directed at PJ cause him to be significantly less depressive and shy.
%%** Mr. Peterson from WesternAnimation/MrPeabodyAndSherman: His wife admits he doesn't laugh too much. He gets less snarky as he becomes friends with Mr. Peabody.
%%* Jack Skellington from WesternAnimation/TheNightmareBeforeChristmas could be considered this, though he's nicer than most examples.

%%* This trope applies to nearly every character ever played by Creator/AlanRickman, villainous or heroic unless he's trying very hard to play against type. This may account for much of the aforementioned DracoInLeatherPants directed at Snape from Film/HarryPotter series.
%%%% generál examples are not allowed; please list concrete films and roles
%% ** Film/DoctorStrange2016. Comes with the territory of being played by Creator/BenedictCumberbatch.
%%* Film/JamesBond, and most of the Bond girls most notably Xenia Onatopp since Bond keeps screwing her over.
* Dr. Ian Malcolm in the Franchise/JurassicPark franchise "suffers from a deplorable excess of personality. Especially for a mathematician", as Dr. Hammond explains in the former's very first scene. He's played by the dark-haired, six-foot-four-and-a-half-inches tall Creator/JeffGoldblum, dresses primarily in black at all times, wryly sums up his love life as "always on the lookout for a future ex-Mrs.-Malcolm", and is always, constantly warning other characters in GibberingGenius fashion about the inevitability of their best-laid plans involving the dinosaurs going horribly wrong. And...as he puts it in the first film as the T. rex breaches the deactivated fence, "Boy, do I hate being right all the time." He's the BreakoutCharacter as far as the humans go -- he didn't survive the original novel, but not only was he SparedByTheAdaptation a Retcon made him the protagonist of the sequel novel The Lost World and corresponding loose film adaptation -- in which his ego is pricked by having to deal with/protect both a current girlfriend and a frustrated daughter from a previous relationship...though he's still the OnlySaneMan of the good guys. After all that, his cameo appearance in Film/JurassicWorldFallenKingdom 20 years later reveals he's gone grey and dropped the snark in the intervening time, and is now a sort of BigGood.
%%* Snow in Film/{Lockout}} is paired with idealistic Emilie who wins his regard by making a tough decision under tough circumstances, causing him to have to go back for her.
* Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse:
** Loki is snarky, tall (the actor's height is 188 cm and the in-universe character's height is 187 cm) and has raven-black hair.
%%** Tony Stark (although Creator/RobertDowneyJr is shorter than most examples) is dark-haired and snarky. Exemplified by this exchange in Film/TheAvengers2012:
%%--->Captain America: Big man in a suit of armor. Take that off, what are you?\
%%Iron Man: Genius playboy billionaire philanthropist.\
%%Black Widow nods in agreement.
* Septimus from Film/Stardust. He's tall, dark, a skilled assassin, and thinks he is surrounded by idiots. He's played by Creator/MarkStrong
%%* Franchise/StarWars:
%%** Darth Vader shows his snark with a BondOneLiner after Captain Needa goes to take responsibility for losing the Millennium Falcon, or for example in Film/RogueOne during his meeting with Director Krennic. When Krennic is trying to justify his "successes" with the Death Star and its power, the tall dark-suited man has this to say about it, with an annoyed and condescending tone all throughout:
%%--->Darth Vader: Its power to create problems has certainly been confirmed. A city destroyed. An Imperial facility openly attacked?
%%** Kylo Ren from Film/TheForceAwakens is substantially taller than the protagonists and never found without his black cloak. Unlike them, he's constantly being snide and sarcastic, sometimes because his subordinates have screwed up ("The droid... stole a freighter?") and sometimes just because ("Comfortable?").
%%--->[General Hux is defending his Stormtroopers after .]\
%%Kylo Ren: How skilled are your soldiers, General?\
%%General Hux: I won't have my men questioned by the likes of--\
%%Kylo Ren: They're certainly skilled at committing high treason.
%%** DJ the Slicer (Star Wars lingo for Computer Hacker); Played by Creator/BenicioDelToro. He's certainly very tall, dark (clothes, skin tone, ethics) and amusingly snarky.
%%* Film/XMenFilmSeries:
%%** Wolverine. At 6'2, his snarkiness is as tall, if not taller, than his height.
%%** The Juggernaut from Film/XMenTheLastStand, in an almost TypeCasting kind of way.
%%--->Pyro: Nice helmet.\
%%Juggernaut: Keeps my face pretty.
%% ** Liev Schrieber's portrayal of Victor Creed in Film/XMenOriginsWolverine.

* Literature/TheAdrienEnglishMysteries: Adrien supposedly looks like Creator/MontgomeryClift and uses sarcasm to cope with just about anything.
* Literature/AirAwakens: Aldrik, the silver-tongued prince. Tall, dark-haired and handsome in a bit eerie way, he is very intelligent and a very powerful sorcerer but he often treats people with contempt or hides compliments within insults (and insults within compliments).
%%* Gerald Tarrant from the Literature/ColdfireTrilogy.
* Literature/DarkHeart: Arvis is a tall, black-haired demon and nearly every remark he makes is sarcastic.
%%* Literature/DarknessVisible: William Marsh starts out mostly TallDarkAndHandsome, but being paired with the GentlemanSnarker Lewis causes him to slide ever further into this trope as the book progresses.
%%* Nick Ryves from Literature/TheDemonsLexicon.
* Literature/Discworld: Vetinari has moments of extreme snarkiness and he's described as tall and dark. Although he's gaunt and has an "equine face", it's mentioned in Literature/UnseenAcademicals that he's "quite handsome, in a way".
%% * Franchise/DisneyFairies: The fastest of the Fast Flying fairies, Vidia's condescending attitude toward everyone else drives them away, which is usually just the way she likes it.
* Literature/TheDresdenFiles: Harry Dresden is this trope, being variously between 6'8 and 6'11 (the general consensus is "I can look down on some guys in the NBA), dark haired, and while certainly not bad looking, also not classically handsome. Oh, and he is constantly sarcastic and he never, ever shuts up. He'll also occasionally invoke this trope, usually with insulting variations.
%%* Literature/Flashman is an interesting subversion: actually Tall, Dark and Snarky as all hell, but appears to the world as a good-natured heroic naif.
%% * Literature/GoneWithTheWind: When they are fleeing Atlanta and Rhett is about to leave Scarlett and Melanie to join the Confederates, Scarlett starts cussing Rhett out on it. His response:
%% -->Rhett: Never mind the rest, I follow your general idea.
%%% Half-context example. Do not uncomment unless you describe the character.
%%* Crowley from Literature/GoodOmens.
* Subverted with Severus Snape in Literature/HarryPotter. He's very snarky, dark, and intelligent, but shorter than Sirius Black, and in Harry's opinion ugly and extremely petty.
* Literature/TheInfernalDevices: William Herondale has dark hair and is implied to be quite tall (Tessa Gray mentions that he is taller than her and that she is uncommonly tall for her own age). Despite the HiddenHeartOfGold, his type of snark is practically his defining character trait.
**
--->Tessa: Gideon and Gabriel. They're really quite good-looking, not hideous at all.\
Will: [in sepulchral tones] I spoke of the pitch-black inner depths of their souls.\
Tessa: [snorts] And what color do you suppose the inner depths of your soul are, Will Herondale?\
Will: Mauve.
**
--->Gabriel: You know, there was a time when I thought we could be friends, Will.\
Will: There was a time I thought I was a ferret, but that turned out to be the opium haze. Did you know it had that effect? Because I didn't.
**
--->Tessa: ...you behave as if you dislike us all.\
Gabriel: (pointing at Will) I don't. I just dislike him.\
Will: Dear me. Is it because I'm better-looking than you?
%%* Literature/JeevesAndWooster: Jeeves is quieter and less outwardly arrogant than typical examples, but he's TheAce and a ServileSnarker. Bertie and his UpperClassTwit friends worship the ground he walks on. In the TV series, he's even more overtly snarky.
* Literature/JonathanStrangeAndMrNorrell:
** Invoked when it is noted that magicians are expected to be tall, dark, and snarky. One reason Jonathan Strange becomes more popular than Mr Norrell very fast is because aside from having dark auburn hair, he fits the classic image of a magician perfectly, particularly when he is mourning for .
** John Childermass, Mr Norrell's EnigmaticMinion, is foreshadowed to secretly be a magician by fitting the bill, especially in the TV mini series. While initially described as looking twisted like a tree, he nonetheless has three maids fall for him. He has long dark hair, wears a black coat with a black top hat, is the master of the eye roll and has barely any dialogue in any social situation where he does not snark. He fits the bill so perfectly, in fact, that Drawlight initially assumes he must be Mr Norrell, the magician of Hanover-Square.
%% * InspectorJavert of Literature/LesMiserables - at least, the book version.
* Clip in the Literature/MalazanBookOfTheFallen is not a full-blooded Tiste Andii, but still dark-skinned and black-haired. He rarely has anything nice to say to his companions, unless you count condescending ridicule as nice.
%%* Fang from Literature/MaximumRide.
%%* Fitzwilliam Darcy from Literature/PrideAndPrejudice, the TropeCodifier, is tall and very attractive but intimidating, reserved and disagreeable. However, close reading proves that he actually smiles a lot throughout the novel, and of course, Elizabeth's lively character improves his manners.
%%* To everyone else's confusion, Prof. Colette from Literature/ThePrincess99 is in love with the embodiment of this trope, Prof. Marius.
%% * Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire: Theon Greyjoy is described in his first appearance as being "a lean, dark youth of nineteen who found everything amusing."
* Heathcliff from Literature/WutheringHeights has very dark physical features and he's capable to charm ladies easily. He counts as a Deconstruction since he lacks the heart of gold and "redemption by the love of a good woman" typically associated with the character.

%%* Series/Angel:
%%** Angel is overall moody and brooding but has frequently shown a dark sarcasm and taunting, snarky behavior to those he disliked.
%%** In later seasons, Wesley begins to resemble this as well.
%%* Series/AustinAndAlly: Ally, not to an extreme, but does have her moments.
%%* Every Edmund since Series/BlackAdderII. Trope since he has to deal with Upper Class Twits all the time and everyone around him is likely to be a CloudCuckooLander.
%%* Series/BlakesSeven: Kerr Avon. Not so big on the tall part, especially when compared with the likes of Blake or Gan, but he makes up for it with a triple helping of snark.
* Series/Community: Jeff Winger is known for his DeadpanSnarker tendencies as well as his height and good looks, even playing off Annie as ThePollyanna, her more idealistic views serving as a foil and counterpoint to Jeff's sarcasm, such as when Troy and Abed fight over their blanket fort, with Jeff initially dismissing the whole thing as silly and taking advantage of the situation to blow off classes, while Annie pushes him to mediate for the two.
%% * Series/CriminalMinds: Aaron Hotchner could vie with Prof. Snape as the Trope Image.
%%* Series/TheNextGeneration:
%%** Jimmy.
%%** Ellie (minus tall) fit it early on.
%%** Holly J was probably snarkiest (but never tallest, but she carried the description well enough).
%%** Sav being tall and snarky toward the end of his run.
%%** Eli (Dark and Snarky), Jake (Tall and Snarky).
%%** Fiona (Bishoujo and Snarky).
* The Fourth Doctor in Series/DoctorWho is by a long way the tallest and deepest-voiced Doctor, 6'3" even without the huge amount of dark MessyHair and his usual habit of wearing high-heeled riding boots, and a character influenced by GothicHorror heroes and the bohemian subculture of the late Victorian era. He is casually condescending and mendacious to his friends (his companion Harry gets the worst of this, but Leela was also constantly reminded how small and worthless her tiny little brain was compared to his) and delivering it all either offhandedly as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, or with a huge, adorable CheshireCatGrin. He's also probably the most sarcastic Doctor of the lot, due to how resigned he is to everyone else's perceived stupidity. Both these traits were also adopted by the Ninth Doctor, who does it just the same but with a lot more Angst, and fitting the trope archetype better.
%%* Series/Elementary: Sherlock.
%%* Nathan Stark on Series/Eureka isn't overly snarky, but he does get off a few good ones, usually at Carter's expense. This doesn't stop him from being referred to as "...and I assume 'tall dark and brooding' is Nathan Stark" early in season 3.
%%* Series/TheFlash2014:
%%** Dr. Harrison Wells was a charismatic celebrity scientist before his fall from grace, and he has a snarky sense of humor and a tendency to be rather prickly and brusque with people who get on his nerves. He's also very much a pragmatic foil to the young and idealistic Barry Allen. The other aspects of the trope are downplayed, however, as his good looks are never actually commented on and his height is only noticeable in flashbacks to before he ended up in the wheelchair. [[spoiler:When he is revealed to be Eobard Thawne, he ditches the wheelchair permanently and becomes rather hammier, making him very much a villainous version of this trope.]]
%%** is famous, charismatic, handsome and tall, but also quite the Jerkass with very little patience for social niceties. Understandable, since Being nice to people is pretty low on his current list of priorities.
* Series/GameOfThrones: Oberyn Martell is tall and dark, and is a forceful, lusty man with a quick wit and barbed tongue.
* Series/HoratioHornblower:
** Mr. Bush (appeared in Series Two and Three) is a fine specimen of TallDarkAndHandsome, but his lines involve a fair share of snarky remarks and sneering comments. Though a decent man and reliable friend, he's also very strict with his subordinates, as seen with his initial disdain towards Archie and Horatio, and his memorable introduction to Midshipmen Hammond and Orrock in the third series: "I expect you to know this ship like the back of your hand, or else you shall know the back of mine."
%%** Sir Edward Pellew is an ace of a captain (later an ace of an admiral), and he's generally very much respected and admired. He's not arrogant, though, but he loves dry humor and mercilessly teases and chews out his crew. Priceless moments come when his favorite SarcasmBlind midshipman/ lieutenant/ captain Horatio does not get his snarky remarks and it takes him forever to figure out that Pellew is joking.
%%* Series/House: Dr. Gregory House. Almost all women in the show want him at some point. He can't bear idiots. He's got the nice, cheerful friend too, in Dr. Wilson, who tries to teach him humanity and caring.
* Series/JessicaJones2015: Jessica herself is pretty tall compared to the other female characters, has very dark hair and makeup and has dark, snarky humor for every situation.
%%* Series/KamenRiderKabuto: Tendou Souji is superhumanly skilled and superhumanly arrogant. But he's the main character, so we're presumably supposed to like him.
* Series/Mash: Hawkeye Pierce is a brilliant surgeon, charming and very good-looking, seduces women extremely easily, snarks at Frank Burns every episode in a way that would make Groucho proud, and he's even described by a Korean cleaning women as "tall, dark hair, snotty attitude," which is almost the trope name word-for-word. Younger characters look up to him and envy him -- which is shown especially with Radar. However, he's pretty messed-up and drinks heavily. He deals with the war and all the killed and badly injured kids he encounters by being a StepfordSnarker.
%%* Series/Merlin2008: The titular wizard is no longer a wizened old man with a beard (though he can and does occasionally disguise himself as such), but an adorable young man with cheekbones to rival anyone's, and a razor-sharp wit.
%%* Series/TheMysticKnightsOfTirNaNog: Garrett.
%%* Series/NCIS: Very Special Agent Anthony [=DiNozzo=].
%%* Series/NodameCantabile: Chiaki Shinichi.
%%* Series/OneTreeHill: Dan Scott.
%%* John Reese from Series/PersonOfInterest, though given that he's inhabiting a WorldOfSnark, he's just as likely to be described as "Tall, Dark and Deranged" by the likes of Detective Fusco.
* Series/Revolution: Miles Matheson seems taller than most of the characters, is dark-haired, and most of his sentences are aimed at snarking at the current state of affairs. Then again, he has been a soldier practically his entire life, and he has little patience with people who just don't seem to listen to his mostly sound advice.
* Series/Riverdale: Jughead Jones is a very dark-haired, broody boy who almost always has something snarky to say and stands at 6'0, as per his actor's height, which makes him the tallest of the Deuteragonist four main characters.
-->Jughead: Sardonic humor is just my way of relating to the world.
%%* Series/Sanctuary: UsefulNotes/NikolaTesla is quite good looking and never hesitates to remind everyone that he's a genius and they're not.
* Series/SchittsCreek: David Rose is the tallest member of the Rose family, dark-haired, handsome and very snarky. Despite being very insecure, he jumps at the chance to show off his smarts, especially when interacting with his BookDumb sister Alexis.
%%* Series/Scrubs: Dr. Cox.
%%* Series/Sherlock: Sherlock Holmes probably picked it up off his AloofBigBrother Mycroft, who's raison d'etre seems to be to turn up and be snarky in a mysterious fashion. And Martin Freeman's Watson is utterly the "nice Lancer" described above.
%% * Series/SilentWitness:
%% ** Dr. Harry Cunningham, with Dr. Nikki Alexander as the idealistic lancer.
%% ** His replacement, Jack Hodgson, fits on occasion.
%%* Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration: Q - Tall, dark and most definitely snarky.
%%* Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries: Mr. Spock is one of the taller members of the cast, considered good-looking in and out of universe, and one of the series' greatest Deadpan Snarkers. However, unlike standard versions of the trope, who are redeemed by the love of a beautiful girl, Spock is redeemed by the (platonic) love of his captain[=/=]HeterosexualLifePartner James Kirk.
* Series/TedLasso: Tall, dark pro footballer Roy Kent has two default modes SirSwearsALot and DeadpanSnarker. And these two modes are far from mutually exclusive.
%%* Series/TeenWolf: Derek Hale.
%%* Series/TheThickOfIt: MagnificentBastard Malcolm Tucker.
%%* Series/TheVampireDiaries: Damon has a sarcastic personality. Much of his sarcasm is often used as a defense mechanism used in order to keep people at a distance.
%%* Series/WhiteCollar: Neal Caffrey.
* Series/Willow: Boorman is the tallest and darkest-skinned member of the rescue party, he's very quick with a quip, and doesn't hesitate to call out things (or people) he sees as foolish.
%%* Series/WizardsOfWaverlyPlace: Both siblings, Justin and Alex Russo, are this, even though they're a SiblingYinYang in all the other aspects.
* Series/TheXFiles: Special Agent Fox Mulder, TallDarkAndHandsome and a DeadpanSnarker extraordinaire. He's paired with one clever Agent who he respects greatly, and his boss is a ReasonableAuthorityFigure, but other than that, the people he makes his quips towards are people who do not understand (or believe) that his crazy theories about the paranormal are in most cases actually true.

* Tachyon in TabletopGame/SentinelsOfTheMultiverse. Okay, she's blonde. But, with a great sense of humor (she memorably described her lab team as "only the top scientific badasses") and standing at a full six feet tall, she fulfills most of the name, and certainly fits the archetype.
%%* TabletopGame/Warhammer40000: Literature/CiaphasCain.

* The title character from Theatre/Brand, by Creator/HenrikIbsen, is described as a man with black, straight hair, and is a SnarkKnight if ever there was one. He also has an impressive effect on his fellow men.
%%* In the 2013 West End musical Theatre/CharlieAndTheChocolateFactory, Willy Wonka qualifies when the icy side of his SugarAndIcePersonality is in play -- eccentric he may be, but he's also elegant, commanding, impatient, and obsessed with punctuality. (The sugary side of his personality, artistic, childlike, and wonder-filled, lies BeneathTheMask.) He also has black hair, unlike in other adaptations (the novel notes he has a black goatee, but illustrators are left to decide if his hair matches). Early in Act One, when Charlie's grandparents are recounting the legends of Mr. Wonka, Grandma Josephine actually declares that he "has a sex appeal what makes me feel young!" suggesting that before he became a recluse, he even had female admirers.
%%* Elphaba Thropp from Theatre/Wicked, despite what people think with her green skin, is actually quite attractive and gets some admirers from her fans, and even in-universe. But she is also very sharp-tongued and will be quick to point out someone's flaws in a usually snarky way. Even more so in the Broadway production, where she made this into one of her favorite pastimes with her friend G(a)linda and other characters.
%%-->Galinda and Elphaba: Yes there has been some confusion/for you see, my roommate is...\
%%Galinda: Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe.\
%%Elphaba: [in a very blunt tone] Blonde.
%%Is she dark-haired?
%%* Creator/WilliamShakespeare:
%%** Berowne in Theatre/LovesLaboursLost
%%** Benedick in Theatre/MuchAdoAboutNothing
%%** Mercutio in Theatre/RomeoAndJuliet

%%
%%* Adam Lazarra from TakingBackSunday.
%%* Music/TheBeatles had a reputation for being like this.
%%* Also John Nolan, to an extent.
%%

%%
%%* Wrestling/AlbertoDelRio
%%* Wrestling/Batista, especially when he's Heel.
%%* Wrestling/CMPunk.
%%* Wrestling/JohnBradshawLayfield
%%* Wrestler/Kane.
%%* Wrestling/KevinNash.
%%* Wrestling/RandyOrton.
%%* Wrestling/TheRock. Heel or Face, it doesn't matter what you think, do, say, or who you are, as far as The Rock is concerned.
%%* Wrestling/ScottHall.
%%* Wrestling/TheUndertaker.
%%* Wrestling/WadeBarrett, ex-leader of Wrestling/TheNexus.
%%

%%
%%* Oblivion from Roleplay/ShadowhunterPeril. It was more apparent when he briefly joined the Resistance as he would constantly make snide comments to EVERYONE, and use his powers on them without warning for his own amusement. He is also incredibly attractive, and always clad in black. He has RedEyesTakeWarning. His foil is Umbra--to an extent. Both of them have blonde hair and dress in black, and both are tall and muscular, but whereas Oblivion is selfish, consumed by anger, and is incapable of loving, Umbra can open his heart to anyone, and he cares more about others than himself.
%%

%%* Jorge Garcia from VideoGame/BackyardSports.
* Bayonetta from the VideoGame/Bayonetta is a dark-haired StatuesqueStunner who snarks with just about every single person she encounters.
%%* VideoGame/BlazBlue:
%%** Ragna the Bloodedge.
%%** Hazama is almost as tall as him and a Troll par excellence, although he's the BigBad.
%%* Magus of VideoGame/ChronoTrigger.
%%* Reaver from VideoGame/FableII. Seemingly meant as a subversion/deconstruction, as he's almost as villainous as the BigBad.
%%* Vincent Valentine (6'0") of VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII. Because Cloud Strife's not tall enough (5'7").
%%* Paine from VideoGame/FinalFantasyX2. It helps that she was involved with spoiler:the Crimson Squad and their absolute disaster of a mission where the squad members ended up killing each other, and then one of the survivors (and her friend) shooting her and her other friends InTheBack.
%%* Although Niles from VideoGame/FireEmblemFates is dark skinned rather than dark-haired, he otherwise plays this trope perfectly straight. Paired with an Avatar of either gender, he can fulfill the role of being a foil to a cheerful optimist as well.
%%* VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance and its sequel:
%%** Shinon. He's very, VERY snarky and somewhat racist as well, but not necessarily evil.
%%** Soren is rather short but otherwise plays this trope perfectly. Despite his grating nature, he is nonetheless highly valued by his companions due to his brilliant mind.
%%* Advocat from VideoGame/GrimGrimoire is a devil of a teacher who charms the female students and makes snide comments at almost every opportunity. And yes, he's one of the good guys. It should be noted that while he tried many times to charm Amoretta, he failed every time. , it's not all that surprising.
%%* Braig in VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep.
%%* VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters:
%%** Kyo Kusanagi is 5’11” (181 cm) tall and deals the snark quite nicely in his XIII pre-match dialogues.
%%--->Kim: Kyo! Just look at my new disciples! They are trying to gain new lives through martial arts! How about it? Don't you feel like joining them at my dojo and working up a good sweat?\
%%Kyo: I don't think those guys are fooling anyone but you, man.
%%** His rival Iori Yagami is of the deadly variety:
%%--->Iori: Do you know what's going to happen, woman?\
%%King: What? Without your flames, you're all talk.\
%%Iori: Excellent! Then you know you're going to die!
%%* While King Graham of VideoGame/KingsQuest could also qualify as straight up TallDarkAndHandsome, especially in his younger days, he can get incredibly bitingly snarky whenever dealing with someone who rubs him the wrong way.
%%* Franchise/MassEffect: Garrus Vakarian becomes this in VideoGame/MassEffect2, becoming a dangerous VigilanteMan with a snarky quip for almost every situation and standing in at over six feet tall (average height among turians, but tall compared to humans).
* Halara Nightmare from VideoGame/MasterDetectiveArchivesRainCode is a 181cm tall detective who wears dark blue clothes and is a significant DeadpanSnarker.
%%* Solid Snake in VideoGame/MetalGearSolid qualifies, but his wilder traits get softened by the growth of a self-sacrificing, spiritual side as the series goes on.
%%* VideoGame/MortalKombatX gave us the new pre-battle banter system, allowing kombatants to engage each other verbally before engaging each other physically. It also reveals that the classically handsome Johnny Cage wavers between having a hilariously inflated ego and gleefully mocking his opponents and that the more rugged yet still attractive Kenshi still finds ways to politely sass everyone he comes across. When the two meet, it borders on SnarkToSnarkCombat.
%%-->Johnny: Have you been working out?\
%%Kotal Khan: Never have I heard such insolence.\
%%Johnny: You don't know me very well.\
%%\
%%Kenshi: Reptile.\
%%Reptile: You will not read my thoughts!\
%%Kenshi: There is very little to read.
%%* VideoGame/NeverwinterNights2:
%%** Sand not only (mostly) fits this trope, but improves on it by being an elf.
%%** Bishop is ruggedly handsome and hilariously sarcastic.
* Jake from VideoGame/ResidentEvil6 is tall and definitely snarky, he may not have dark hair, though he wears dark clothes.
%%* Frantz of VideoGame/RustyHearts.
%%* Jade Curtiss from VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss is the king of Snarking; friends, enemies, and random people on the street are not above his Whips of Wit!
%%* Judas from VideoGame/TalesOfDestiny 2 snarks at everyone but Nanaly and insists he only joined the party because it was entertaining to do so. Not so much the tall part, though, as an annoyed Loni points out that he looks younger than him. He has Kyle and Harold as his foils.
* Yuri from VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia is a tall dark-haired Bishounen who constantly points out fallacies in people's arguments or reasoning.
* Oleander from VideoGame/ThemsFightinHerds is a unicorn, one of the more taller species of the game's world, has a dark coat and mane due to black magic, and most of her dialogue when she's not being a SmugSuper is her undermining the skills and intelligence of her opponents. Even as guide during the tutorial sections she still occasionally talks about the fighters in a mocking way.
* Garret from VideoGame/Thief is kind of tall, dark for sure, and all kinds of snarky. No matter who he's dealing with, he has a witty line to deliver.
%%* VideoGame/ValkyriaChroniclesII:
%%** Zeri can be counted as this, though he mainly finds Avan to be the biggest annoyance.
%%** Pete.

* Franchise/AceAttorney:
%%** Miles Edgeworth is TheComicallySerious Determinator and ruthless as a prosecutor, though time and CharacterDevelopment makes him a man who only pursues the truth. While he's irresistible to the ladies, he doesn't notice (being MarriedToTheJob), admired by the police force, and incredibly snarky. This is more evident when he's playable, as in VisualNovel/AceAttorneyInvestigations.
** Prosecutor Simon Blackquill is nearly an EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette, especially in his first appearance, and is taller than most of the cast. He delights in giving everyone nicknames, manipulating the court and the Judge with the power of suggestion, and punning at every opportunity. When his full motivation comes to light, it's clear that some of this is GallowsHumor.... but a lot of it is just Simon.
%%* VisualNovel/FateStayNight:
%%** Archer, except for the white hair. Then again, he is AmbiguouslyBrown,
%%** Lord El-Melloi II, Rin's sponsor for study in London ([[spoiler:as well as the OlderAndWiser Waver Velvet, one of the few surviving magi of the fourth Holy Grail War]]), doesn't let being a very skilled and well-liked lecturer of magic get in the way of also being surly and mean.
* VisualNovel/ShallWeDateNinjaShadow:
** Makoto Nakagawa's in-game sprite shows him as one of the tallest men in the whole group, his long hair is dark blue, and he's stone-faced and serious 90% of the time. He amps up the snark if he's the chosen LoveInterest for the bifauxnen PlayerCharacter, dealing all kinds of sarcastic comments towards her to rile her up.
** Makoto's ChildhoodFriend, Asagi, is fairly tall and dark-haired as well, plus a surly and snarky MagicKnight who's set up as the typical JerkWithAHeartOfGold. He keeps a kind yet cynical disposition towards the heroine -- save for the second part of his own route, which he shows a more vulnerable side.
* VisualNovel/UnderTheMoon has twin brothers Leni and Seizh; both have dark-hair, both have Instant Fan Clubs of adoring girls in their high school classes, but they express this trope in different ways.
** Leni does not suffer fools.
** Seizh does, but mostly for the chance to ridicule people.

%%* WebAnimation/RedVsBlue: Freelancer York is Incredibly good-looking, very good at what he does, and every other word out of his mouth is in the form of snarkily commenting on other people's quirks and flaws. Oddly he's still a NiceGuy, as he frequently delivers the snark in a manner that suggests he's more affectionately teasing than actually trying to be mean.
* WebAnimation/RWBY: Qrow Branwen is a tall, dark-haired man with PermaStubble who is the foremost master of the gun scythe and a member of Ozpin's inner circle. His reputation as a Huntsman is so fearsome that trained assassins like Mercury Black are running for the hills at the sight of him. He's also constantly drunk and snarks at everyone's expense when he feels that they're acting out of line (ignoring how his own actions can disturb the peace). Qrow is fiercely loyal to friends and family but has to minimize his time with his loved ones lest his Semblance bring them misfortune and tragedy.

* Webcomic/TheShufflers has Hiddenite, who has dark hair, a stoic, quiet, demeanour, and a tendency to snark at his charge Märchen. He is nonetheless incredibly loyal to Märchen. He even has a personal world where it’s always night and snowing.
* Webcomic/GirlGenius: Ardsley Wooster is tall, dark, British, the ServileSnarker as Gil's manservant, and Despite how dangerous it can be Wooster regularly snarks at the expense of Sparks, at one point saying he believes that a particularly dirty book Agatha noticed on Gil's shelves is one of Gil's favorites even as Gil tries to direct Agatha to a different one.
%%* Zombie from Webcomic/HannaIsNotABoysName is one of the tallest of the cast, a gentle but still pronounced snarker, and not too bad-looking for a green-skinned reanimated corpse.
%%* Esther de Groot from Webcomic/ScaryGoRound.

* WebVideo/TheAutobiographyOfJaneEyre: Mr. Rochester is Tall, Dark, Brooding and Mysterious. He is well-built, has tanned complexion, dark hair, PermaStubble and intriguing tattoos. He's bossy and almost rude but can be also nice and almost sweet when he's grateful or in a good mood. He's full of contradictions, and it's really hard to know when he's serious and when he deadpans and snarks.
%%* WebVideo/TheCinemaSnob
%%* Tim from WebVideo/MarbleHornets becomes increasingly snarky throughout season 3, even engaging in the occasional SnarkToSnarkCombat with Jay. His distrust and irritability, however, are perfectly justifiable.
%%* WebVideo/TheSpoonyExperiment: The Spoony One, who is also a LargeHam.

%%* Mozenrath from WesternAnimation/AladdinTheSeries is a pure evil take on this.
%%* Trent Lane and Thomas "Tom" Sloane from WesternAnimation/Daria are more than capable of snarking their way through the plot. Trent's sister Jane is a female example. %%%EXAMPLE INDENTATION! Jane needs context%%%
* Demon and SorcerousOverlord Tso Lan the Moon Demon from WesternAnimation/JackieChanAdventures is tall, has purplish-dark hair (a lot of it), wears blood red and royal violet robes, and is very snarky, as well as a bit scary, since Jade calls him "tall, dark and creepy".
-->Wind Demon: Perhaps we can find a civilized way to resolve this.\
Tso Lan: Like what? Alphabetical order?
%%* Shego from WesternAnimation/KimPossible. If one were to describe her character in three words (well, technically four), these would be them. A DarkActionGirl very snarky.
%%* Mako and his ex-girlfriend Asami Sato, from WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra. In season 2, this snarkiness seems to carry over into Mako's job as a cop as well.
%%-->Mako: Looks like you had some car trouble. Good thing the police are here.
%%* Carlos Ramon in WesternAnimation/TheMagicSchoolBus. Well, he's tall for a fourth-grader...
* WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic: Princess Luna is larger than most other ponies, dark by design, and as her personality is slightly more serious than most of the other characters she also has less patience, so she's prone to giving out sarcastic and snarky gems..
%%* Vanessa Doofenshmirtz from WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb. She wears always in black and is snarky to her dad.
%%* Vince [=LaSalle=] from WesternAnimation/Recess
%%* Moriarty from WesternAnimation/SherlockHolmesInTheTwentySecondCentury.
%%* Craig Tucker from WesternAnimation/SouthPark.
%%* Gwen from WesternAnimation/TotalDrama.
%%* Prowl from WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated is not quite so snarky as other examples, but fills the quota nonetheless.
