->''"Oh, don't look at me! My eyes aren't even fully formed yet! No eye whites! It's a problem, I can't see a lot of colors."''
-->-- '''J.P.,''' ''WesternAnimation/CraigOfTheCreek'', "[[Recap/CraigOfTheCreekS4E24MyStareLady My Stare Lady]]"

You may notice that some cartoon characters don't have to have whites to their eyes. Well, they're certainly not ''white.''

Skintone Sclerae are [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin just that]]: As opposed to the irises being surrounded by white space, a character's skin will apparently go on into the eyeball.

Compare BlackBeadEyes -- you could alternately describe this trope as Black Bead Eyes but with a small line to indicate the upper eyelid, sometimes eyebrows, and no more detail than that.

!!Examples:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Anime and Manga]]
* ''Anime/CuteHighEarthDefenseClubLove'': The first monster enemy, Chiku Kazutake, has those.
* ''Manga/Cyborg009'':
** More than one female character in like Arisu, Princess Ixquic, and the Pu-Awak sisters.
** Subverted with Cain and Von Bogoot, since they seem to have this but they're actually shades.
* ''Manga/DragonBall'':
** Krillin and Yajirobe having this in common, [[ActorAllusion along with their Japanese voice actors]], leads to Goku comparing them when he meets Yajirobe. Though this only applies to Krillin in the anime; he has white sclerae in color manga illustrations and most video games.
** {{Funny Animal}} like Puar also have flesh-colored sclerae.
* Several characters, including the protagonists, have this in ''Literature/{{Katanagatari}}''.
* Some characters in the original ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam'' have these, notably Bright Noa and Mirai Yashima. (Other characters are drawn with eye whites.) Mirai can start to look odd [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdQUJ2CqttE when she's placed next to characters drawn in other styles.]]
* Very noticeable in ''Anime/TheMysteriousCitiesOfGold'' with most of the human cast.
* Tsubasa Yuuki from ''Anime/{{Penguindrum}}'', since unlike all the other characters she looks like she stepped straight out of a Shojo manga from the 70s, a reference to her career as a Creator/TakarazukaRevue [[{{Bifauxnen}} otokoyaku]].
* ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'':
** ''Anime/PokemonTheSeriesBlackAndWhite'':
*** Cilan. Made even weirder by Cilan being the first main character afflicted with the condition. Even weirder still, his two brothers have regular eye-whites.
*** Lenora's husband, Stephan, and a few other background characters also have this.
** ''Anime/PokemonTheSeriesSunAndMoon'': Lana and Sophocles are the only classmates of Ash who have these kinds of eyes. Unlike Cilan, however, it's clearly a familial trait since all members of Lana and Sophocles' families have these eyes as well.
* Nanami Kiryu of ''Anime/RevolutionaryGirlUtena'', [[EarlyInstallmentWeirdness although she occasionally has white sclerae during the first arc.]]
* Nils is portrayed with these in ''Literature/TheWonderfulAdventuresOfNils'', rather than the usual big eyes seen in anime shows.
* Starting with volume 6, everyone in ''Manga/{{Yotsuba}}'' has these; the earlier volumes have standard eyes. To match this change, ''Manga/AzumangaDaioh''[='s=] 10th anniversary re-release also features skintone sclerae on its cast.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* In ''Gaspard de la Nuit'', an obscure French comic book series, all characters are drawn like this.
* ''ComicBook/{{Norby}}'': The characters' eyes [[SuddenEyeColour shift]] from tiny black dots with skin-coloured sclerae to [[BlackDotPupils black dots with white sclera]] when the characters are closer, to fully-coloured irises when closest to the "camera". This is minimized in the second adaptation, which tries to preserve eye details even at a distance, but isn’t entirely absent.
* ''ComicBook/{{Superman}}'':
** In ''ComicBook/TheUnknownSupergirl'', ''ComicBook/TheUntoldStoryOfArgoCity''... and other ''ComicBook/{{Supergirl}}'' stories drawn by Jim Mooney, the interior of the eyes often has the same color as the character's skin.
** In ''ComicBook/MustThereBeASuperman'', the Man of Steel's eyes are consistently given a flesh-colored tone.
** ''ComicBook/LetMyPeopleGrow'': Kal and Kara's eyes are flesh-colored in several panels.
* ''Franchise/{{Tintin}}'': The protagonist and supporting characters are all drawn like this. Herge' popularized the Ligne Claire (clear line) style of European comics and as a result, skintone sclerae and Ligne Claire are more often than not seen together.
* ''ComicBook/{{Valerian}}'': This was the norm in the earlier volumes.
* ''ComicBook/WonderWoman'' [[ComicBook/WonderWoman1942 Vol 1]]: Save for in extreme close-ups in Harry G. Peter's art eyes are just outlines with the interior the same color as the character's skin tone.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Strips]]
* While drawn in a relatively realistic fashion, the characters in ''ComicStrip/FunkyWinkerbean'' have black-and-skintone eyes.
* The characters from ''ComicStrip/{{Peanuts}}'', human and animal alike. Particularly noticeable when they made a "troubled" face.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animation]]
* The AnimatedAdaptation of ''ComicBook/BatmanYearOne'' and the ''WesternAnimation/DCShowcaseCatwoman'' features every character with these.
* In the automobile version of [[Franchise/ToyStory Hamm the piggy bank]] seen at the end of ''WesternAnimation/Cars1'', his windshield is colored pink like his paint instead of white like everyone else's.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheRescuers'', the mouse characters have sclerae the same color as their fur, to give the illusion of having the black eyes of real mice without sacrificing the expressiveness of traditional CartoonyEyes, though there were a few exceptions where the mice had filled in eyes, either [[OffModel by accident]] or because [[FireBreathingDiner they just had some strong moonshine]] that caused their eyes to flash red and blue for a few seconds. %%[[ArtEvolution Averted in the sequel]].
* The characters in the Disney ''[[WesternAnimation/TheManyAdventuresOfWinnieThePooh Winnie-the-Pooh]]'' films have button eyes, occasionally drawn with eyelids but no sclerae for the sake of an expression. This is justified in the case of the stuffed characters, but the same style was used on Christopher Robin as well, perhaps to match the simple pen-and-ink illustrations of the original books.[[note]]However, he did have white sclerae in the 2011 movie, which turned him into a cute boy of sorts.[[/note]]
* ''WesternAnimation/YellowSubmarine'' plays this straight with the Beatles themselves, except for John, who wears glasses.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* Everyone in the ''Literature/MrMen'' series, except Mr. Sneeze. When glasses-wearing characters are seen without their glasses, they count as well; when they are wearing their glasses, they have EyeGlasses.
* In the ''Literature/RainbowMagic'' books, all of the characters have these, but it's most prominent in the movie.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* Inversion in the ''Series/DoctorWho'' episodes "[[Recap/DoctorWhoS32E5TheRebelFlesh The Rebel Flesh]] and [[Recap/DoctorWhoS32E6TheAlmostPeople The Almost People]]" -- the Gangers' skin looks like the white of a human eye.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Video Games]]
* This is also one of the eye types you can have in ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossing''.
* You can make a ''MediaNotes/{{Mii}}'' or an [[MediaNotes/XboxAvatars Xbox Original Avatar]] with this quality.
* A few characters in ''VideoGame/Persona3'' have this quality.
* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'':
** Cilan of ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'' is the first human in the ''Pokémon'' franchise to have them, although his very pale skin in official art means it's not immediately apparent. Not even his brothers have it. This is appropriate, as he replaced [[EyesAlwaysShut Brock]] in the anime.
** Togepi is born with sclerae that matches its skin. Its evolved forms just have beady black eyes.
** ''VideoGame/PokemonXAndY'' has a few Trainer Classes with this type of eye.
** Lana of ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon'' is another person who has this eye style.
** Milo from ''VideoGame/PokemonSwordAndShield'' also has this eye style.
* ''VideoGame/DragonQuest'':
** ''VideoGame/DragonQuestII'': In the original NES [[https://dragon-quest.org/images/e/e1/DQII_Prince_Of_Cannock.png artwork]], the Prince of Cannock has sclerae the same color as his skin.
** ''VideoGame/DragonQuestV'': [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px_dqv_ds_sancho.png Sancho]] is drawn with sclerae that matches his skin.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Animation]]
* Both ''WebAnimation/HomestarRunner'' and Strong Sad have this type of eyes.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
* On ''WebVideo/TheFundayPawpetShow'', while watching an episode of "The Dukes" Lisel mentioned that this practice freaked her out.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* This was common on Creator/HannaBarbera shows of the 1960s and '70s. Most of the human characters in the various ''Franchise/ScoobyDoo'' shows, for instance. No doubt this was motivated by the low budgets of the shows, as not having to paint the eyes saved a bundle on paint.
** Despite having a higher budget, coming after several series that did feature white sclerae, and it not really saving any money with digital coloration in use, ''WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooMysteryIncorporated'' returns to the skintone look to make the cast look more like their 1969 selves.
** Several Scooby-Doo direct-to-DVD movies beginning with "Abracadabra Doo" followed the aforementioned show by giving the characters their original designs and giving them skintone sclerae.
*** In "Moon Monster Madness", the human characters have white sclerae when wearing their space helmets.
** Penelope Pitstop had skintone sclera in ''WesternAnimation/WackyRaces'', but later got white sclera in [[WesternAnimation/ThePerilsOfPenelopePitstop her own show]].
** Hanna-Barbera continued this practice into the early 1980s. In the animated series of ''WesternAnimation/TheLittleRascals'', only Buckwheat and Darla have white sclerae.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheAmazingWorldOfGumball'': Alan is a balloon whose face is entirely drawn, and his eyes are the same color as his "body".
* Human characters in ''WesternAnimation/AquaTeenHungerForce''.
* The ''WesternAnimation/ArchieComics'' animated adaptations produced by Creator/{{Filmation}} (another company that, like Hanna-Barbara, utilized low budgets for their shows), including ''WesternAnimation/TheArchieShow'' and ''WesternAnimation/SabrinaAndTheGroovieGoolies''. Filmation would eventually abandon this and give their characters' eyes white sclera in later cartoons such as ''WesternAnimation/FatAlbertAndTheCosbyKids'' and ''WesternAnimation/HeManAndTheMastersOfTheUniverse1983''.
* The majority of characters in ''WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor'' have BlackBeadEyes, but a few girls (usually the more glamorous ones, like Numbuh 10) are depicted with upper eyelids and lashes, which produces this effect.
* Almost every character in ''WesternAnimation/{{Daria}}''. The most notable exceptions were Brittany, Stacy, Jodie, Mr. O'Neill, and Mr. [=DeMartino=]. Ms. Barch, the [[DoesNotLikeMen man-hating]] divorced science teacher, had skintone sclerae from seasons 1 to 3. When the show's animation changed in seasons 4 and 5, she was redesigned to have whites around her eyes.
* This trope sees plenty of use in the Franchise/DCAnimatedUniverse, most famously for Franchise/{{Superman}} (except in closeups and in ''WesternAnimation/StaticShock'') and [[ComicBook/{{Shazam}} Billy Batson/Captain Marvel]] (this also applies to non-DCAU production ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheBraveAndTheBold''). It's also used just shy of consistently for Asian characters.
* ''WesternAnimation/DorgVanDango'': Dorg is the only character to have these, being revealed when he's not wearing glasses, thus an example of the trope of nearsighted cartoon characters being depicted this way.
* Monique from ''WesternAnimation/KimPossible'' had these in the [[http://images1.fanpop.com/images/photos/2500000/kim-and-bonnie-kim-possible-2545618-512-384.jpg first season.]] In other seasons she has the same eyes as everyone else.
* Unlike most of the other characters, which have well detailed eyes, the platypodes in ''WesternAnimation/KulipariAnArmyOfFrogs'' have Hanna Barbera type sclerae.
* ''WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse'' in his earlier appearances in the WesternAnimation/ClassicDisneyShorts. Later depictions of him portray him as having normal-looking eyes.
* Everyone in ''WesternAnimation/MikeTysonMysteries'' has these to parody the art style of the original ''Scooby-Doo''.
* Miss Finster from ''WesternAnimation/{{Recess}}''.
* Eileen from ''WesternAnimation/RegularShow''. Justified as she's a mole.
* ''WesternAnimation/StarTrekTheAnimatedSeries''. Most noticeable with Uhura, of course.
* Babies in ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'', unlike adults and children, have flesh-colored eye.
* Most of the characters in ''WesternAnimation/XiaolinShowdown'' have small round eyes with flesh-colored sclerae. Omi's eyes are more of a BlackBeadEyes since they don't even have the upper eyelid the other human characters have, while non-human characters like Dojo have normal eyes.
* Brit Crust from ''WesternAnimation/MyLifeAsATeenageRobot''.
* Most of the Asian characters from ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDragonJakeLong''.
