->''"Last time I got shot in the arse! I am in mourning for my arse!"''
-->-- '''Izzy Buttons''', ''Film/TheMummyReturns''

ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin -- a character takes a bullet to the hindquarters. The '''ultimate''' in AmusingInjuries which, as well as being OnlyAFleshWound, is an assisted LiteralAssKicking by a bullet to the buttocks. Or an arrow. Or a bolt of lightning. Or anything. Usually PlayedForLaughs because, seriously, a bullet to the ass?

In RealLife, any gunshot can kill, especially if left alone long enough to get horribly infected. But of all the places on the body where one can get shot, the butt has the greatest chance of not being life-threatening and causing any permanent damage when treated properly. In fact, survival experts often (semi-seriously) advise people confronted by guns to stick out their butts to offer them as the least risky targets. Of course it's still pretty undignified, especially as far as [[UndignifiedDeath deaths]] go.

In several wars, being shot in the ass was known as a "million-dollar wound", because it was serious enough to get you medically discharged and shipped home but not permanently debilitating in any way once it had healed, and, as such, worth a million dollars to a war-weary grunt.

If you happen to deliver one of these, a "[[AsTheGoodBookSays turn the other cheek]]" one-liner is always good form.

SubTrope of PainToTheAss. Compare ButtBiter and LiteralAssKicking.

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* Happens to Amata in ''Anime/AquarionEvol'' a few times to stop him from floating/his emotions getting out of control.
* In one ''Manga/CityHunter'' story, Ryo gets [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/42651/city-hunter_v7_ch25.1_by_manga-daisuki/16 shot in the rear with several arrows]] by the person targeting the IdolSinger he's been hired to protect.
* In ''Manga/DestinyOfTheShrineMaiden'', when [[spoiler:Chikane]] takes out the [[QuirkyMinibossSquad Necks of Orochi]], [[spoiler:[[CatGirl Nekoko]] ends up getting an arrow in her ass]].
* An early episode of ''Literature/DirtyPair'' has Yuri getting shot in the ass during a mission. Thankfully she's wearing a full-body bulletproof suit, but it still hurts her and she quickly takes payback against the responsible.
* In the first ''Franchise/FireEmblem'' OVA, during the bandit attack in Talys, the archer Gordin saves a soldier by shooting the bandit attacking him in the rear. [[AccidentalAimingSkills He seems rather pleased with the result.]]
* PlayedForLaughs in ''Anime/FullMetalPanicFumoffu''. The boys are trying to spy on the girls while they are in the hot spring, Kurz is shot in the buttocks with a laser and loses the ability to go on and must leave it to Shinji to protect the male honor.
* A running gag in ''Manga/{{Gintama}}'', where every so many episodes the bad guy (Zenzo or Gintoki) is disabled by a poke or shot in the ass from a kendo sword or projectile weapon.
* ''Manga/{{Jormungand}}'':
** Lutz constantly getting shot in the ass becomes a RunningGag - to the point that even ''he'' openly expresses his irritation over it.
** Jonah was shot in the ass at one point in his past. The bullet is still there, in fact. The only reason he doesn't have it removed is because he's AfraidOfNeedles.
* ''Manga/MadBull34'': Happens to Sleepy during a gunfight, just when he mentions how it's [[TemptingFate fortunate that he's wearing a bulletproof vest]].
* ''Manga/SPYxFAMILY'': In a bonus chapter, Yor gets shot in the butt while performing an assassination job. Loid, not knowing that Yor is an assassin, thinks Yor's discomfort and irritation are because of something ''he'' did and resolves to take her out on a date to make it up to her. Throughout the date, Yor refuses to sit for any reason because she knows it'll cause her intense pain. It reaches the point where she's hover-sitting at dinner and an attempt to poison her actually makes her feel ''better'' because it numbs the pain.
* In ''Manga/{{Yaiba}}'' this happens to Musashi who was trying to hide from Yaiba using a ninja technique, and getting an {{arrowgram}} in the ass by error.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Asian Animation]]
* In the ''Animation/ThreeThousandWhysOfBlueCat'' episode "Will Earth Be Destroyed?", Blue Cat shoots an arrow at Feifei in this spot during their escalating BowsVersusCrossbows war.
* ''Animation/HappyHeroes'': In Season 6 episode 7, an alien bee chases after Careless S. and Little M. and shoots a stinger projectile at the latter, hitting him squarely in the bottom. The stinger causes Little M. to mutate into a half-bee monster.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* ''ComicBook/BirdsOfPrey'': As Killer Shark is about to kill Lady Blackhawk, her teammate Huntress arrives just in time, shooting two arrows into his butt and knocking him out.
* In the ''ComicBook/New52'' ''ComicBook/{{Deathstroke}}'' comic, ComicBook/HarleyQuinn shot ComicBook/LadyShiva in the ass to stop her from killing Rose Wilson.
* ''ComicBook/DisneyDucksComicUniverse'': Someone getting shot with salt in the ass (usually by Scrooge or Hard Haid Moe) is almost a RunningGag. This is also how a furious WesternAnimation/DonaldDuck once [[OneManArmy crushed an army]] -- and he shot most of them ''from their front'': the first two shots, directed at their leader to keep him from forcefully marrying Reginella, were indeed from behind, but everything else was as the enemy was charging him.
* ''ComicBook/SinCity'': In ''Family Values'', this happens to the owner of a Greek restaurant during a drive-by shooting.
* ''ComicBook/TheSmurfs'':
** In "The Smurf Menace", Farmer receives an {{Arrowgram}} for Papa Smurf from the Grey Smurfs right in the behind.
** In a four-page comic book story regarding Smurfette's visit to the Smurfs, one Smurf fires an arrow with a rope attached to it to [[LiteralMetaphor literally fulfill Smurfette's desire for one of her fellow Smurfs to "bring her the moon"]] -- only to accidentally shoot another fellow Smurf in the behind.
** In "The Smurfs And The Magic Flute" from the ''ComicBook/JohanAndPeewit'' series, Johan accidentally shoots an arrow into somebody's ass when Peewit messes up his aim by playing the magic flute.
* ''ComicBook/LesTuniquesBleues'': In one album, Chesterfield takes one of these, with Blutch insinuating that it might be reported to high command that such a wound implies the victim [[DirtyCoward wasn't facing the enemy...]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Strips]]
* A ''ComicStrip/TheFarSide'' cartoon depicts a medieval soldier being carried away on a stretcher with several arrows in his butt as another soldier tells his buddy "So then I says to Borg, 'You know, as long as we're under siege, one of us outa {{moon|ing}} these Saxon dogs.'"
* ''ComicStrip/HagarTheHorrible'': The eponymous Hägar occasionally shows up with an arrow in the rear as a [[AmusingInjuries comedic injury]]. Given his somewhat potato-like physique, it's lodged ''somewhere'' in the vicinity of his butt, though your guess is as good as any where it ended up precisely.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* In ''Harry Potter and the Muggle Who Lived'' (a crossover with ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer''), Tonks complains about Xander shooting her in the arse with a paintball gun. Xander counters that she shot him back in the same place, and has five paintball splatters to prove it.
* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7053661/8/Harry-Potter-The-Forgotten-Brother Harry Potter, the Forgotten Brother]]'', Snape receives one of these after trespassing on Harry’s farm. While Pomfrey and Snape [[InsistentTerminology insist he was shot in the upper thigh]], Hermione is more than glad to explain where he was shot...
* Jayne is shot in the butt in the ''{{Series/Firefly}}'' fic "[[https://m.fanfiction.net/s/7737894/1/He-s-got-a-secret/ He’s Got a Secret]]". It starts out funny but turns serious when it's revealed taking his pants down for treatment is actually pushing a TraumaButton.
* In ''[[http://b7fic.livejournal.com/93671.html On the Up]]'', a ''Series/BlakesSeven'' fanfic, Avon is shot in the bum; both Vila and (uncharacteristically) Avon find this hilarious and collapse into a cackling fit. This becomes immediate {{mood whiplash}} when they realise that a) [[spoiler:the laughter is a symptom of hypoxia, because they're trapped in a lift with no ventilation]], and b) [[spoiler:Avon's bleeding both ends.]]
* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11183769/1/A-Prickly-Problem A Prickly Problem]]'', a ''Bonanza'' fanfic, features Little Joe in the unfortunate position of, while not having been ''shot'' in the ass, having been bucked off of a bronco onto [[https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/94/Cylindropuntia_bigelovii.jpg/220px-Cylindropuntia_bigelovii.jpg this]], which is just about as painful (and leaving Adam in the arguably just as unfortunate position of having to remove all of the spines).
* ''Fanfic/ThisBites'': Mikey gets ''stabbed'' in the ass twice, both by flying objects, in "Road to Sabaody part 4". The first time it's by a skewer that Bonney casually tossed behind her without realizing he was there. The second time is during the BarBrawl near the end, when Hawkins throws a knife at Cross, Soundbite sends it off course and it bounces off a wall and into Mikey.
* A RunningGag in ''Webcomic/AdaptingToNight'' is bad ponies who don't realize Vinyl Scratch is a vampire aiming for her flank. Such as [[https://www.deviantart.com/rated-r-ponystar/art/AtN-One-Shot-Stories-Part-1-661327492 one time]] she faked her death. [[https://www.deviantart.com/rated-r-ponystar/art/AtN-Strike-Hard-Strike-Fast-Part-3-780121178 Eventually]], after taking out two Dawn Crusaders who shot her in the flank she goes on a rant about it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/ChillOutScoobyDoo'': One of the traps that [=LaFleur=] sets up is a device that shoots tranquilizer darts. It ends up hitting him with ''five'' right in his butt, rather than the yeti that was his intended target.
* ''WesternAnimation/DespicableMe2'': Gru is saved from a bad date (who's about to humiliate him by taking his toupee off in public) when Lucy shoots the woman in the butt with a tranquilizer dart.
* A few ''Anime/DoraemonFilmSeries'' movies have Nobita, the ButtMonkey protagonist, subjected to this:
** ''Anime/DoraemonNobitasLittleSpaceWar'' has the gang shrinking themselves on Planet Pirika[[note]]a world of {{Lilliputians}}[[/note]] trying to help their friend Papi, only to be sentenced to ShotAtDawn by the PCIA dictatorship, but luckily the effects of the Shrink Light turning them finger-sized had worn off. They quickly revert to human size, but Nobita still gets shot in the rump by rifles (which he shrugs off thanks to GiantEqualsInvincible).
** In ''Anime/DoraemonNobitasDiaryOfTheCreationOfTheWorld'', when Nobita, Shizuka and Doraemon explore an underground tunnel in the Artificial World, Nobita feels a stinging pain up his rump, which Dorarmon dismisses as insect bites. But the pain remains even after the gang left the Artificial World and returned to Tokyo, so Doraemon asks Nobita to drop his trousers -- and finds out Nobita's hit by ''tiny'', needle-sized arrows fired by insect-people.
** In ''Anime/DoraemonNobitaAndTheSpaceHeroes'', when the gang first encounter the Space Partners' {{Mooks}}, they find out that the partners are ''not'' friendly when they start firing laser blasters on them. One stray bolt catches Nobita in the rump, and would've killed him if not for the fact that the particular installment is a SuperheroEpisode in which the cast gains invulnerability and enhanced strength. Still, it does hurt like crazy, necessitating Shizuka (who gains MakingASplash powers) to wet the spot on Nobita's butt.
* ''WesternAnimation/LeroyAndStitch'': During the battle between the first 626 experiments and the army of Leroys, Spike (Experiment 319) shoots one of the Leroys in the butt with his silliness-inducing spines.
* ''WesternAnimation/Madagascar3EuropesMostWanted'': In the finale, [[spoiler:after [=DuBois=] ends up in Alex's cage at the zoo, Mort shoots her in the ass with a tranquilizer dart from her own gun, which he'd stolen shortly before.]]
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Moana}}'': [[GeniusLoci The Ocean]] convinces Maui to train Moana in way-finding by stabbing him in the butt with one of the Kakamora's paralyzing darts.
-->'''Maui:''' Really? Blow dart in my butt-cheek... You are a bad, bad person.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Mulan}}'': During the TrainingMontage, Yau takes a flaming arrow to the hindquarters, which makes him leap in the air amusingly.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheRescuers'': Madame Medusa accidentally shoots one of her crocodiles in the ass with her shotgun (she was trying to shoot Bernard and Bianca instead).
** ''WesternAnimation/TheRescuersDownUnder'': Wilbur spends some time in a hospital. The doctors decide he needs some sedatives, and decide the best way to give them to him is to load syringes into ''a double barrel shotgun and shoot him in the ass''. AmusingInjuries indeed.
* ''WesternAnimation/RobinHood1973'': The little rabbit Skippy shoots Prince John in the rear with an arrow (it bounces off) during the big battle at the archery tournament. (Luckily for Skippy, it goes unnoticed as to just ''where'' the arrow came from, otherwise he would have been in ''serious'' trouble considering Prince John's general attitude at that point.)
* ''Franchise/{{Shrek}}'':
** ''WesternAnimation/Shrek1'' gets an arrow in his ass in the first film, but doesn't even notice until it's pointed out to him (his reaction being a very mild [[MajorInjuryUnderreaction "Oh, would you look at that"]]). Fiona forcefully yanks it out, much to his discomfort.
** ''WesternAnimation/PussInBootsTheLastWish'': Jack Horner accidentally shoots one of his Baker's Dozen henchmen with a unicorn horn in the butt. Suddenly, said baker explodes into confetti, [[ComicallyMissingThePoint much to Jack's awe]] (since he didn't know what the unicorn horns would cause to shot people until then).
--->''(Baker explodes)''\
'''Puss:''' ''(spits out confetti) [[BigWhat WHAT?!?]]''\
'''Jack:''' ''(laughs)'' So that's what they do! Cool!\
'''Ethical Bug:''' No, not cool!
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* ''Film/The51stState'': The protagonist is shot in the arse by a [[AlmostLethalWeapons suddenly less dangerous]] high velocity rifle. It appears to be about as [[OnlyAFleshWound damaging as an airgun]], despite having killed a bunch of guys moments before. Even ImprobableAimingSkills couldn't really pull that one off.
* In ''Film/AreYouBeingServed'', the sister gives Mrs. Slocombe injections in her bum when she requires her inoculations for the holiday:
-->'''Mrs. Slocombe:''' Oh, it's ''typical'', isn't it? All these pamphlets talk about is "sun", an' "sea", an' "sex". They never mention a ''jacksie'' full o' vaccine!
* ''Film/BadBoysII'': At the end of the first shootout, Mike, [[GunsAkimbo who is using two guns]], accidentally shoots his partner Marcus in the ass while trying to get the last KKK guy who had gotten the drop on him. Marcus suffers [[TheLoinsSleepTonight problems in the bedroom]] as a result of the ass-shot, and is only cured of his dysfunction by accidentally ingesting some X (the drug whose traffic the two are trying to fight) during a trip to the morgue, leading to one of the most hilarious scenes in the movie.
* ''Film/BigJake'': One of Jacob [=McCandles=]' sons takes a load of buckshot in the nether regions.
* In ''Film/BillyMadison'' when Eric threatens the audience at gunpoint when losing the decathlon to Billy, he gets shot in the ass by a man Billy called earlier, saving the day.
* In ''Film/BirdOnAWire'', Mel Gibson takes a bullet to the behind, which makes it necessary for him to visit his veterinarian ex-girlfriend for extraction.
* ''Film/BlackBeltJones'': One such accident ends the opening credits.
* ''Film/BlackChristmas1974'': One of the sheriff's men got shot in the ass when he went on one old man's property.
* ''Film/BlazingSaddles'': After being in a whole series of gunfights against a bunch of [[TheGunfighterWannabe wannabe gunfighters]], the [[FastestGunInTheWest Waco Kid]] hears a voice from behind him shout "Reach for it, mister!" and turns around with his guns drawn to see his challenger: a six year old with a set of revolvers. At this point Waco goes to throw down his guns and walk away, but the "little bastard shot me in the ass." Such a humiliating defeat [[TheAlcoholic drove the Waco Kid to drink]].
* ''Film/{{Braveheart}}'': A Scottish pikeman gets this treatment. Turns out mooning the English archers wasn't such a good idea after all. (As well as being one of many of the [[ArtisticLicenseHistory violations of historical fact depicted in that film]].)
* ''Film/TheBurning'': To get back at Glazer for pushing Alfred into the water, Dave has Woodstock shoot him in the ass with his air pistol to ruin Glazer's chance at impressing girls.
* ''Film/CaptainCorellisMandolin'': Not bullets, but in the movie version Mandras gets hit in the ass by rocks shot from a cannon. Leads to a funny moment with John Hurt as the village doctor.
* ''Film/CentralIntelligence'': Calvin grazes Bob in the ass [[spoiler: to make him drop his ground and leave Phil vulnerable.]]
* ''Film/TheCherokeeKid'': Isaiah shoots Bonner in the ass with a derringer. Instead of getting medical attention, he goes to a bar to get drunk.
* In ''Film/AChristmasStory'', during Ralphie's daydream where he runs off Black Bart and his minions, he shoots all of them in their asses.
* ''Film/CityHeat'' (1984). A mafia goon who gets shot in the ass goes to a BackAlleyDoctor for treatment. The drunken 'doctor' pours [[HealItWithBooze booze on his behind to disinfect it]], and at that point our protagonists walk in and threaten to literally set his ass on fire if he doesn't talk.
* In ''Film/CoolWorld'', Nails the Spider shoots himself in the ass after psyching himself up to go and take down Holli without Frank's assistance.
* ''Film/Cradle2TheGrave'', Creator/AnthonyAnderson congratulates someone for shooting a Helicopter in the rear via "YEAH! YOU SHOT HIM IN THE ASS!"
* In ''Film/{{Crank}}'', Chev catches a bullet in his ass during his visit to the hospital. It results in an amusing line, and is then swiftly forgotten. Clearly, it takes more than a butt-shot to even inconvenience a dedicated badass like Chev Chelios.
* ''Film/DancesWithWolves'': Timmons is shot in the butt by an arrow from the Pawnee.
* ''Film/Deadpool2016'': At one point, Deadpool is shot there by a gunman. He promptly falls to the ground, but the shooter is lured close to his seemingly dead body before Deadpool shoots him back with his gun held between his legs. Having a healing factor, the shot didn't kill him, but he does limp for a while, remarking that the bullet went "right up Main Street".
* In ''Film/DeltaFarce'': Because everyone with a gun evidently attended the ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy, Bill is the only one to actually get shot.
* In ''Film/{{Disorderlies}}'', a Fat Boys movie, the villain, thinking he's succeeded in having his uncle killed, gets one of his criminal associates to do this to him to make him look like he tried to defend him to the last. He takes the bullet, hops around in agony, and ''then'' [[AllForNothing discovers his plan failed.]]
* ''Film/DoctorSeries'':
** ''Film/DoctorAtSea'': When trying to give Captain Hogg a surprise injection, Dr. Sparrow accidentally backs his rear into the needle Easter is holding.
** ''Film/DoctorAtLarge'': Sam needs Dr. Sparrow to help him with treatment for this issue. He lies that his dog set off his shotgun when he was actually shot while poaching fish.
--->'''Sam:''' Sit down, won't you?\
'''Dr. Sparrow:''' How about you?\
'''Sam:''' I like standin' up, if you don't mind.\
'''Dr. Sparrow:''' Well, what can I do for you?\
'''Sam:''' The fact is, Doctor, I had a little accident with my gun.\
'''Dr. Sparrow:''' Oh, I see. You, er, got some shot in you, have you?\
'''Sam:''' That's it.\
'''Dr. Sparrow:''' Ha-ha, where?\
'''Sam:''' ''Oh''... where it makes me prefer standin' up.\
'''Dr. Sparrow:''' Oh, I see. How on earth did you manage to shoot yourself there?
** In ''Film/DoctorInClover'', Dr. Grimsdyke gets Symington to give him a shot of Dextranome 90 (claiming that it's a flu shot) in his rear to try and rejuvenate him. When Symington is unable to give him the shot thanks to Jeannine distracting him, Dr. Grimsdyke takes the syringe and backs away, accidentally injecting Sir Lancelot in his rear.
* In ''Film/{{Dragonheart}}'', with an arrow however instead of bullets as this was set during the medieval era; Brother Gilbert shoots one of the [[BigBad evil king's]] men in the ass; he even says "Turn the other cheek, brother".
* ''Film/EasyMoney''. Just when Rodney Dangerfield has given up on his effort to quit drinking/smoking/carousing (in order to inherit ten million dollars), his daughter's estranged husband shows up with a gun, and this happens -- putting Dangerfield in the hospital and saving the inheritance.
-->'''Doctor:''' It looks like [[ExpospeakGag trauma to the gluteus maximus]].\
'''Dangerfield:''' Ha, you're wrong, Doc, he shot me in the ass!!
* ''Film/ForrestGump'': Forrest gets shot in "[[FunetikAksent the but-toxs]]" in Vietnam, and then shows the wound to UsefulNotes/LyndonJohnson. LBJ laughs -- which is ''exactly'' the sort of thing LBJ would do. Gump even mentions the "million-dollar wound" bit:
-->'''Forrest:''' They said it was a [[MillionToOneChance million-dollar wound]], but the army must keep that money 'cause [[LiteralMinded I still haven't seen a nickel of that million dollars]].
* In ''Film/FlutteringHearts'', a 1927 comedy, a man shoots a pistol at a mannequin. After the shot goes though his intended target, a woman dancing a short distance away reacts in pain after receiving the bullet in her ass.
* ''Film/GoodMorningVietnam'': Used as a joke when Garlick is telling Robin Williams's character about a ComicallySerious NCO he'll be working with:
-->'''Garlick:''' Plus, I think he got shot in the ass, but I can't confirm that.
* In ''Film/{{Gotcha}}'', after fighting a battle on his college campus against KGB agents armed with only a tranquilizer gun, Anthony Edwards shoots a blond college student in her ass with a dart.
* In ''Film/TheGrayMan2022'', Lloyd is shot in the butt with a tranquilizer dart by Miranda, much to his consternation.
--> '''Suzanne:''' Why are you limping?\
'''Lloyd:''' [[LargeHam 'CAUSE I GOT]] ''[[LargeHam SHOT IN THE ASS]]'', [[LargeHam SUZANNE!]]
* In the climax of ''Film/TheGreatOutdoors'' Chet defeats the "Bald-Headed Bear" by doing this with a shotgun. Since the shotgun was doing double-duty as a lamp the damage was superficial, leading to:
-->'''Raccoon:''' Oh no... don't tell me.\
'''Other raccoon:''' Yup! She's bald on both ends now.
* In ''Film/{{Gunless}}'', Sean arrives in Barclay's Brush dripping blood from an unseen wound, which is eventually revealed to be a bullet wound in his butt just before he passes out. Later, Sean is trying to clear a jam in Jack's gun so they can finish their duel when the gun discharges accidentally. The bullet ricochets off a grindstone and hits Jack in the butt in exactly the same spot Sean had been shot earlier.
* In ''Film/HerAlibi'', Nina accidentally shoots Phil there with a ''bow and arrow'' while practicing archery. ([[ItMakesSenseInContext Conveniently]] while he's on the phone with a detective who has doubts about the ruse they're using.) After some rather hilarious attempts to extract it herself, she manages to drive him to the hospital. (He says he plans to tell them he did it himself, but that would be quite a tough sell...)
* Another non-bullet example in ''Film/HomeAlone2LostInNewYork'': one of Kevin's traps tricks Marv into shooting himself in the ass with a staple gun.
* ''Film/TheInterview'': Kim Jong-un shoots one of his men in the butt.
-->'''Kim Jong-un:''' Your butthole is ironic!
* ''Film/JayAndSilentBobStrikeBack'':
** One only threatened:
--->'''Whillenholly:''' Fire a warning shot into his bulbous ass.\
'''Sheriff:''' One rectal breach comin' up.
** And one much later that is successful, by a monkey no less:
--->'''Willenholly:''' Oh my God. I'm paralyzed! That monkey shot me in the ass and paralyzed me! Oh sweet irony!\
'''Justice:''' You're not paralyzed. It was just a tranquilizer.
* In ''Film/JohnWickChapter4'', John shoots Killa, a High Table target that he needs to kill, in the ass as the latter is running away from him. Funnily enough, [[BerserkButton it pisses Killa off so much]] to the point that [[LetsGetDangerous he finally stands his ground and starts fighting John back.]]
-->'''Killa:''' ''[In German]'' You shot me in the ass! BASTARD!
* In ''Film/JumpinJackFlash'' Terry Dolittle (Creator/WhoopiGoldberg's character) gets shot with a tranquilizer by the bad guys in one scene.
* In ''The Jungle Book: Mowgli's Story'', [[ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated Rumors of Shere Khan's Death Were Greatly Exaggerated]] as a result of this happening at the film's beginning.
* ''Film/KidnappingCaucasianStyle'': The main villain tries to escape from his house by the window, but is shot in the behind and falls to the ground. The shooter reveals he shot him with... salt. Cut to the court room where the man's hearing is in process. While everybody sits down, the man remains standing with a straight face, until someone points out he can't sit down and giggles.
* ''Film/LightningJack'': Two unfortunate townspeople [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03NK73OhsCA take some buckshot]] to their derrieres in one scene.
* ''Film/LoveStinks'': After Seth reveals [[spoiler:he tricked Chelsea at the end to get his house back, Chelsea grabs a handgun from a security guard and shoots Seth in the ass as he attempts to escape]].
* ''Film/TheMan'' has Samuel Jackson (as Agent Derrick Vann) getting shot in the ass, where in the next scene, he tries to get on a plane, but a metal detector prevents him from doing so because the bullet is permanently lodged.
* ''Film/MenAtWork1990'': When Carl sees Jack assaulting Susan in her apartment, he takes offense at it and decides to pay him out by shooting Jack with his pellet gun. He lands a shot in Jack's posterior, which sends him into a sitting position from which he can't seem to get up.
* Used (hilariously) as a TrustPassword of sorts in ''Film/MoneyTalks''. [[FridgeLogic Not the best Trust Password if "everyone knows"]], but still funny.
-->'''Franklin:''' Tell him I was there when he shot Baby Bro at [=MacArthur=] Park.\
'''Bodyguard:''' Where'd he shoot Baby Bro?\
'''Franklin:''' At [=MacArthur=] Park, you big dumb mother--\
'''Bodyguard:''' Nah! Where'd he shoot him?\
'''Franklin:''' In the ass! Everybody know he got shot in the ass!
* ''Film/MulhollandDrive'': The heavy-set woman thinks she's bitten bad when it actually was a bullet penetrating her behind.
* ''Film/TheMummyReturns'': Izzy the pilot claims he's gotten shot every time he's worked with O'Connell -- most recently in the ass. He's actually quite upset about this because he brings it up [[RunningGag at least three times]] after the page quote is spoken.
* In ''Film/MysteryMen'', the Spleen (whose superpower is farting) gets shot in the ass. He does a "systems check" afterward to make sure it hasn't affected his abilities.
* ''Film/NakedKiller'': During her assassination attempt on Mr. Bee, Kitty manages to shoot his kneecaps first, and then shoot his anus from point-blank for good measure. Unfortunately, a bodyguard manages to subdue her, leading to Bee scolding his {{Mooks}} for "letting that little bitch shoot [his] ass".
* ''Film/NewInTown'': One of the main characters gets shot in the rear when a gun goes off by accident while they are hunting crows.
* During the final shootout of ''Film/OnceAThief'', a random thug got his anus pumped full of lead by a shotgun.
* ''Film/OneForTheMoney'': Stephanie pushes Jimmy to the ground, making him drop his weapon. As she tries to grab her gun, Jimmy picks up his pistol and shoots a round. After firing back, and the gunfight now over, Stephanie puts her hand over her tight jeans and realizes that she's been hit in the left buttock. Driving away from the scene, she calls dispatch: "Yeah, I got two dead bodies, a hit man, an F.T.A., and a bullet in my ass."
* ''Film/ThePinkPantherStrikesAgain''. While Clouseau is in England he accidentally causes a shotgun to shoot a Scotland Yard official in the behind. A later scene shows the official having the shotgun pellets painfully removed.
* ''Film/Protocol1984'': The premise has the main character saves a visiting Arab emir this way.
* Twice in ''Film/SavingPrivateRyan'':
** Used as BlackComedy and {{Bathos}} during the [[WarIsHell Omaha landings]] one of the medics helping Wade takes a bullet through the canteen hanging from his hip. The canteen begins leaking water... and then it begins leaking bloody water. The medic jolts up and begins frantically reaching around for bandages to stuff down his trousers.
** Later during the final battle, Horvath gets shot in the ass when he and a German soldiers stumble on one another: Both of their rifles jam, they then throw their helmets at each other, and then scramble for their sidearms. Horvath kills the German, but not before getting a round right in the back. He's so infuriated he throws his pistol at the dead German before stomping away.
* In ''Film/ScaryMovie 4'', Tom puts his gun in the waistband of his pants. It accidentally goes off, resulting in a self-inflicted example of this trope.
* In ''Film/ShootEmUp'', Mr. Smith places a bullet in a goon's behind. When the goon mentions this as a reminder to take out bystanders first, Hertz shoots him in the other cheek as a reminder not to fail him.
* ''Film/{{Spaceballs}}'': Princess Vespa shoots a trooper in the arse.
* ''Film/ThatBeautifulBlondeFromBashfulBend'': The heroine continually shoots at her no-good boyfriend -- only to perpetually hit the ''town judge'' in the butt.
* ''Film/TheThreeStooges'':
** This often happens to the Stooges, who react to it in about the same way a cartoon character would.
** In the short film "Rusty Romeos", the GoldDigger who played the stooges gets her comeuppance when Joe Besser makes her bend over to pick up a $100 bill, then shoots her rear end full of carpet tacks. He finishs it up by spanking her as the short fades out.

Alonzo, not believing Jake will shoot him, calmly and slowly turns his back to pick up the gun that he's dropped, and Jake shoots him in the ass as more or less a warning shot]].
-->'''[[spoiler:Alonzo Harris:]]''' Shit! Ooh you mooooootherfucker!\

[[folder:Literature]]
* In the MonsterMash neo-noirs ''Literature/CityOfDevils'', ''Literature/FiftyFeetOfTrouble'', and ''Literature/WolfmanConfidential'', the hero was shot in the ass during World War II.
%%* ''Literature/CityOfThieves2008'', where it's not played for laughs.
* In ''Literature/DannyTheChampionOfTheWorld'' Danny's father tells Danny of how keepers like to shoot poachers from behind -- not to kill, but to wound. Danny switches between being amused and horrified at the descriptions:
--> "Many's the night when I was a boy, Danny, I've gone into the kitchen and seen my old dad lying face down on the table and Mum standing over him digging the gunshots pellets out of his backside with a potato-knife. [...] Towards the end, he was so covered in tiny little white scars he looked exactly like it was snowing."\
"I don't know why I'm laughing," I said. "It's not funny, it's horrible."\
"''Poacher's bottom'' they used to call it," my father said. "And there wasn't a man in the whole village who didn't have a bit of it one way or another. But my dad was the champion ..."
* ''Literature/TheFifthHorsemanASleepyHollowLegend'' (by Gregg Gonzalez) has one of the protagonists, Patrick Higgins, get shot in the butt by the HeadlessHorseman itself, while he's part of a group trying to follow the horse that the demon is using. Fortunately, it's just a flesh wound.
* ''Literature/{{Flashman}}'': In ''Flash For Freedom!'', Flashman is shot in the ass by slave hunters while crossing the Ohio river with a fugitive slave (and accidentally inspiring ''Literature/UncleTomsCabin''.) Most of Flashman's battle scars happen to be in the rear, for [[DirtyCoward logical reasons]].
* In ''Literature/FullMetalPanic'', Gauron disguises himself as a member of Mithril and makes his way to his Arm Slave (Mecha). When Mardukas sends people to stop him, Gauron turns around and opens fire on them. All of them manage to run away safely, except for one poor sap who's crouching in a corner and literally gets shot in the ass.
* In a Creator/VinceFlynn novel, Mitch Rapp suffered this trope while fighting terrorists, and trying to hide his job from his wife. It backfired when she discovered the injury during an intimate moment.
* ''Franchise/FridayThe13th'': Jason gets shot in the butt (and [[GroinAttack groin]]) quite a few times in ''Friday the 13th: Hell Lake''.
* ''Literature/HarryPotter'': The magical version is apparently easily self-inflicted for wizards who carry their wands in the back pockets of Muggle clothing. At least according to Alastor Moody, who warns Harry that "Better wizards than you have lost buttocks!"
-->'''Tonk:''' [[NoodleIncident Who do you know who's lost a buttock]]?
* ''Literature/{{Jackdaws}}'': Michel, Flick's French Resistance husband, gets shot in the buttocks in the first chapter and is embarrassed every time Flick tells anyone. Given that at the beginning of the book she discovered he was cheating on her, this happens ''a lot''.
* In Sir Thomas Malory's ''Literature/LeMorteDArthur'', there's a completely ridiculous moment where Lancelot is accidentally shot in the behind by a woman out hunting. That Malory's narration is completely matter-of-fact throughout just makes it funnier.
-->''And ... she put a brode arow in her bowe and shot at the hynde -- and so she overshotte the hynde, and so by myssefortune the arow smote Sir Launcelot in the thycke of the buttok [...] And the wounde was passynge sore and unhappyly smytten, for hit was on such a place that he myght nat sytte in no sadyll.''

-->Chewie chuckled.\
"It's not funny, furball. It hurts."
* In ''Literature/PercyJacksonAndTheOlympians'', while Chiron is trying to teach Percy archery, Percy accidentally shoots him in the hindquarters. Chiron being a centaur and the arrows not being particularly sharp means that there is no serious injury.
* In ''Literature/{{Sharpe}}'', the titular protagonist shoots a particularly cowardly and incompetent UpperClassTwit in the arse during a duel. It was nearly subverted, in that Sharpe was actually aiming for the man's belly (which would lead to [[AgonizingStomachWound a prolonged and agonizing death]]), but missed.
* In the ''Literature/SherlockHolmes'' stories, Dr. Watson says in some stories that he was shot in the arm, and in others that he was shot in the leg. One of the sillier [[EpilepticTrees fan theories]] to explain the discrepancy is that he was really shot in the behind and was too embarrassed to say so.
* In ''The Sinner'' by Madeline Hunter, a woman suffers a minor bullet wound in the butt.
%%* In Creator/CarlHiassen's ''Skinny Dipping''.

* Series/HoneyWest is shot in the butt in ''This Girl for Hire''.
* Happens to Porthos's servant Mousqueton in ''Literature/TheThreeMusketeers''. In the sequel ''Literature/TwentyYearsAfter'', when he's older and much more dignified, d'Artagnan [[DeadpanSnarker suggests]] that he show the scar to a cowardly younger servant who could use an example of bravery. And in a fight scene some chapters later, Mousqueton is wounded "in the other". Later still he's driving a carriage, and doing so upright for reasons known only to himself.
* In ''Literature/ToSailBeyondTheSunset'', a Creator/RobertAHeinlein novel, it is stated in jest that Lazarus Long was "shot in the ass" in UsefulNotes/WorldWarI. He ''actually'' got cut nearly in half by a machine gun, but was rescued by some of his [[TimeTravel time-and-space traveling relatives]].

Perconte gets it in "The Breaking Point". Since the series is BasedOnATrueStory, all of these double as RealLife examples
-->'''Penkala''': Yeah, kind of an Easy Company tradition, getting shot in the ass.
* ''Series/BarneyMiller'': In "Ambush", Barney is informed that Nick has been shot in the 'cheek'. Barney voices concern while running a finger along his face. Chano replies, smiling, "Not that cheek." Later, Nick has to sit on an inflatable ring.

The banker found out ''the hard way'' that Granny keeps a loaded shotgun with rock-salt and discarded bacon rind pieces as ammo!
* ''Series/BrooklynNineNine'': Boyle jumps in front of a gun trained on Diaz and gets two to the ass for his trouble. Played realistically: he's in bandages and has a cane for a few episodes and receives a medal for valor for being injured in the line of duty. Which does not stop everyone making fun of him, because it's [[ButtMonkey Boyle]].
* ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'':

* ''Series/FamilyMatters'': One episode features Carl getting Shot In The Ass, forcing him to share a hospital room with Urkel, who was in for an appendectomy.
* ''Series/TheFinder'': In the second episode, "Bullets", Walter is searching for a decades-old missing bullet which can clear a death row inmate, a former cop convicted of killing another cop. Walter ends up shooting [[spoiler:a corrupt former internal affairs officer]] in the ass. The reason? [[spoiler:The internal affairs officer was the real killer, but the wrongly convicted officer had gotten a shot off when the murdered officer was gunned down. That shot had ended up in the internal affairs officer's buttocks, and had never been removed, causing him to sit uncomfortably. And so, Walter 'finds' the bullet by shooting the man in the same cheek, so that when the new bullet is dug out, the old one will be as well.]]
* ''Series/{{Firefly}}'': Accidentally happens in the outtakes; in one scene (part of "House of Gold"), an actor playing a bandit shot a blank round at Alan Tudyk (Wash), and the paper wad shot out and hit Alan in the buttock. Cue Alan limping back into the shot a few seconds later and everybody on the set cracking up.

* ''Series/HomeImprovement'': In one episode, Tim accidentally shoots his old shop teacher Mr. Leonard (who's making a guest appearance on Tim's show ''Tool Time'') in the butt with a ''nail gun''. (In the next scene, Leonard, who is understandably upset, tells him, "I got shot in the butt in 'Nam and it didn't hurt this much...")

* ''Series/{{Lucifer}}'': In the pilot, when [[spoiler:Chloe is shot by Joe]], Lucifer is kneeling at her side as [[spoiler:Joe]] continues to fire. Lucifer takes at least four shots, and from the angle it's pretty clear they must have hit his butt. Of course, being the devil, [[ImmuneToBullets he finds this more annoying than anything]], so he just asks Chloe to excuse him for a minute while he deals with [[spoiler:Joe]]. MindRape ensues.
* ''Series/{{The Magicians}}'': In season 2, episode 3, a woman taunts a man holding a crossbow. After she turns around, he puts an arrow into the middle of her left butt cheek. "You shot me, you (expletive)!"

* ''Series/MarriedWithChildren'': Kelly was practicing her archery in one episode and shot a "bird" this way -- her father dressed as an owl.
* ''Series/{{MASH}}'': Happens to a couple of people, including Colonel Potter. In one episode Hawkeye is operating on a soldier who ponders what he should do when people back home ask where on his person he got wounded, as it's an example of this trope.

* ''Series/MikeAndMolly'': In the opening of one episode, Mike disarms a convenience store robber by throwing a can of Diet Coke which hits the robber in the head; the robber drops the gun, which through some weird ricochet (based on how the characters were facing) fires a shot into Mike's behind. The entire rest of the episode is rife with butt-shot jokes.
* ''Series/MyNameIsEarl'': Earl tried to make up for #147 on his karma list: "Shot Gwen Waters in the ass with a BB." As it turns out, the BB is still in there years after the incident and causes Gwen no shortage of humiliation when she goes through a metal detector.
* ''Series/MysteryScienceTheater3000'': One of the best lines from the roasting of ''Film/TheFinalSacrifice'': "''Ow.'' You shot my butt. What the ''hell'', you ''shot'' me in the ''butt!''"
* ''Series/MythBusters'': When testing the myth that a penny dropped from the top of the Empire State Building would kill anyone it hits, Jamie adapted a staple gun to fire pennies at their terminal velocity. Adam ''volunteered'' for a butt shot. [[spoiler:He wasn't injured, Myth Busted]].

** In season two, during the detectives' hunt for the Dictionary Killer, they interview a male victim who escaped, but not before being shot in the ass. Sipowicz and Simone tell him that they need the bullet which is still lodged there. After the removal surgery, the guy complains about how much pain he's in, and Sipowicz [[CallBack hands him that inflatable blue donut]], telling him, "This helped me."
* On ''Series/TheParentHood'', the father is involved in a mugging, shot, and in the hospital. The "will he live?" drama is cut short when an angel points out that nobody's going to die from being shot in the ass.

* In ''VideoGame/BoardGameOnline'', if you get a bow, you can shoot other players five spaces back with an arrow up the butt.
* ''VideoGame/{{Bulletstorm}}'' has doing this to a stunned mini-boss as one of the many skillshots you can perform. It causes flames to shoot out said mini-boss' ass. [[AwesomeButImpractical Funny, but worth less points and harder to set up than just leashing the mini-boss' head off.]] You can also do this to ordinary {{Mooks}} for a "Rear Entry" skillshot. Doing it to Burnouts with growths on their ass earns you an "Assplosion".
* In ''VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim'', the owner of the "Drunken Huntsman" explains the name of his shop as coming from an incident when he and his brother had gone hunting after consuming "a bit too much mead." When they separated, his brother, in his inebriated state, mistook him for a deer and shot him in the "rump" with an arrow.

* In ''VideoGame/KingdomOfLoathing'', the creators gave a unique [[http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/Arse-shooting_crossbow arse-shooting crossbow]] to a player. Strangely, the [[http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/Shot_in_the_Arse "Shot in the Arse"]] effect it bestows is beneficial. It even comes complete with a ''Film/{{Braveheart}}'' reference:
-->This crossbow looks like it'd be perfect for shooting people in the arse. Y'know, like that one scene in Braveheart where that guy gets shot in the arse? Like that.
* In the opening cutscene of ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3'', [[VideoGame/{{Darkstalkers}} Morrigan Aensland]] launches a flurry of tentacles at ComicBook/IronMan. They miss, and instead hit ComicBook/{{Deadpool}} in the butt.
* This trope drives the entire plot of ''VideoGame/{{Mercenaries}} 2''. Your former employer, instead of properly paying you, wants you dead and tries to kill you. You get shot in the ass. The enemy {{Mooks}} even call you the mercenary who got shot in the ass. The theme song from the ads, "Oh No You Didn't", sings about it, too.
* In ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolidPeaceWalker'', shooting any enemy either in the head or between the buttocks with the tranquilizer pistol will cause them to fall asleep from a single shot.
* ''VideoGame/MountAndBladeIIBannerlord'' has a death animation for any person who dies from a ranged attack to the butt, which is particularly rare because it requires the victim both be facing away from the shooter ''and'' within range of a shot. They drop whatever they're holding, scream in pain (and usually one of the loud screams too), grab their ass and fall to their knees, before eventually keeling over. Unique in that they may not be dead, though they might wish that they were.
* If you managed to land a shot on an enemy's buttocks in ''VideoGame/PerfectDark'', [[DevelopersForesight they'd do this awesome little hop and stagger about awkwardly for a few seconds]].
** Its technical predecessor, ''VideoGame/GoldenEye1997'', also has two versions of the hop-and-grab as rare animations if you shoot a guard in the butt.
* In ''VideoGame/SheepHappens'', If you lose and choose not to continue, then one of Hermes' flying sheep will shoot Perseus in the buttcheeks with a huge arrow.
* An actor in ''VideoGame/WolfensteinIITheNewColossus'' gets this (and dies) [[DisproportionateRetribution for giving a crummy audition]]. [[spoiler: ''By Hitler himself.'']]

'''Gene:''' [[ARareSentence I wonder how many other dads are saying that to their sons right now.]]
* ''WesternAnimation/TheCasagrandes'': In "Mexican Makeover", Rosa shoots Carl in the ass with a sticker gun. Given that she's shot several items in the apartment with labels of their Spanish translations, Carl's chonie-covered right butt cheek is emblazoned with a label reading "pompis" ([[DontExplainTheJoke Spanish for "butt"]]).
* WesternAnimation/DaffyDuck has his tail feathers blown off more than once, à la the above picture.
* ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom'': Danny is the unfortunate victim of this trope in two separate episodes.
* In the ''WesternAnimation/DextersLaboratory'' episode "Blackfoot and Slim", Dexter takes a tranquilizer dart in the butt.
* ''WesternAnimation/DuckTales2017'':

* ''WesternAnimation/DuffysDozen'' was an unsold Hanna-Barbera pilot from 1971 about Ted Duffy, his wife and their ten adopted children traveling the country in an RV. In a segment of the pilot taking place at Yosemite National Park, Ted is trying to retrieve his bowling ball from a sleeping bear. A park ranger sees the situation and fires a tranquilizer dart... which hits Ted in the butt. It was intentional as the ranger was keeping Ted from doing something dangerous.
* ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy'': "Believe It Or Not, Joe's Walking On Air" had Joe Swanson get surgery to restore his ability to walk, but [[AcquiredSituationalNarcissism it caused him to become an arrogant jerk]]. At one point his wife tries to re-paralyze him but is a terrible shot. One them ended up hitting "his perfect ass".
* In the ''WesternAnimation/{{Goofy}}'' short "The Olympic Champ", Goofy gets shot in the butt at the start of the explanation about hurdling, prompting him to start running.

* ''WesternAnimation/TheJetsons'': In the episode "TV or Not TV"; George and Astro have gone on the run after witnessing what they thought was a robbery (it turns out it was an episode of a TV shot being filmed), and George demonstrates what he wanted Astro to do while they went hunting for food while on the run; only for Astro (holding the gun) to taze George right in the butt.
* ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'': In the season 6 episode "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS6E18DungeonsAndDiscords Dungeons & Discords]]", the second time that Discord transports himself, Spike and Big Macintosh into their role-playing game world, he and Spike shoot the villain the Sqwizard in the rear with a magically flaming arrow (Discord -- the Archer -- fires the arrow, while Spike -- the Magician -- uses magic to set it on fire at Discord's request).
* ''WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb'':
** In the episode "Bad Hair Day", thanks to a CoincidentalAccidentalDisguise, Doctor Doofenshmirtz gets shot in the butt with a tranquilizer dart. He even closes out the episode by [[BigLippedAlligatorMoment singing a song about it.]]
--->''If you wanna know why, please refer to the chart\
I've been shot in the butt with a dart!''
** In the "Theme Song Takeover" ad for the spinoff ''WesternAnimation/MiloMurphysLaw'', Doof fills in for Milo in the opening theme song, and is hit with the same bad luck as Milo usually is, except he's not experienced with it and gets hit with just about every bad thing that Milo easily avoids. Right before the end, he discovers he's been hit in the butt with a couple of arrows, and demands to know who shot them.
* In ''WesternAnimation/PorkysDuckHunt'', WesternAnimation/PorkyPig accidentally shoots his upstairs CrankyNeighbour in the ass ''twice''- once for each cheek.
* A bumper on ''[[WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes The Road Runner Show]]'' had the Coyote drawing a portrait of himself and the Road Runner. As he displays it, he grabs the bird but then the Coyote in the drawing shoots him in the ass.
* Boris gets shot in the rear more than once in ''WesternAnimation/RockyAndBullwinkle''.

* ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsRebels'': In [[Recap/StarWarsRebelsS2E04BrothersOfTheBrokenHorn "Brothers of the Broken Horn"]], crime lord Azmorigan gets a stun bolt to the posterior when [[RobotBuddy Chopper]] goes after him with blaster pistols [[GunsAkimbo akimbo]] in his gripper arms. It doesn't do anything thanks to Azmorigan being [[{{Kevlard}} well-padded]].
* ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsResistance'': In the short [[Recap/StarWarsResistanceS0E2DartAndCover "Dart and Cover"]], astromech droid Bucket decides to try his hand at holo-darts, and although his first two shots are bullseyes, his third shot goes wild and ricochets around the room before hitting Kaz in the glutes, prompting Bucket to flee the room with Kaz chasing after him.
* ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'': In "Wawanakwa Gone Wild", Izzy, assigned with capturing a deer, unwittingly shoots Heather in the butt with a tranquilizer dart, mistaking her for a deer because she was wearing fake deer antlers. Earlier, Izzy also shot Chef Hatchet in the butt with three shots landing.

[[folder:Real Life]]
* According to a legend (depicted most prominently in ''Literature/GestaDanorum'') King Harald Bluetooth of Denmark died during an ambush from getting hit with an arrow in his ass. The story is more then a bit questionable though, and most likely a later attempt to smear and ridicule the King by depicting his demise as an UndignifiedDeath.
* During the Lewis and Clark expedition, Lewis got hit in the buttocks by one member of the party while they were hunting. It got infected, but he recovered a few weeks later. Lewis diary entry marks the first usage of the phrase "shot me in the ass", though the concept is considerably older.
* In the Behind-the-Scenes for ''Film/ShaunOfTheDead'', Nick Frost gets [[OverlyLongGag a shot in the ass]]. By shot, we mean a syringe, which, according to him, was for the cold. There's even footage and everything.
* In ''To Hell And Back'' the RealLife story of Medal of Honor recipient Creator/AudieMurphy, Audie's friend asks him where he got shot.
-->'''Audie:''' In... the hip.\
'''Friend:''' Yeah, but where'd it come out?\
'''Audie:''' ''[pause, then laughs]'' You know where it came out!
* Heriberto Seda, the [[JackTheRipoff Copycat Zodiac Killer]] who stalked New York City during the early [=90s=], shot his sister in the buttocks during a domestic dispute. She survived, and the incident led to him being captured.
* Sometimes doctors have to administer a vaccine in the buttocks area. And if you ''really'' act up and you have to be sedated a common place to administer intramuscular Haloperidol (often part of a "B52" consisting of the former as well as Ativan and Benadryl) is right in the buttock, especially if someone being held face down on the floor by security since it's the most convenient area to reach. In other words, they give you a [[{{Pun}} shot in the ass]].
** Injections into the buttocks are commonly used when a large amount of medication must be injected, or the material to be injected is an irritant. The deltoid (outer shoulder running into upper arm) is not big enough and very sensitive to irritation.
* UsefulNotes/BenitoMussolini was shot in the ass during UsefulNotes/WorldWarI.
* So was George Patton during one of the 1918 offensives, after he fell off the tank he was riding on.
* U.S. soldier James Bumgarner (later actor James Garner) was wounded by friendly fire during the Korean War.
* Lee Marvin was given a medical discharge from the US Marines after being wounded in the buttocks by machine gun during the battle for [[UsefulNotes/WorldWarII Saipan]] (June 1944).
* UsefulNotes/GeorgeCanning in his duel with UsefulNotes/LordCastlereagh. Standard histories say he was hit "in the fleshy part of the thigh". Natural historian/paleontologist/essayist [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Jay_Gould Stephen Jay Gould]] claimed he had it on good authority "he was shot in the ass". From which we get the title his essay "George Canning's Left Buttock" (later collected in Gould's 1991 book ''[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bully_for_Brontosaurus Bully for Brontosaurus]]''), which notes how this minor duel (both participants survived) impacted both US (concerning the treaty of Ghent) and natural history (concerning Darwin's Beagle voyage).
* One of the victims of the Kip Kinkel school shooting was hit in the ass by a stray bullet that ricocheted off the ground.
* This is a common battlefield injury for infantrymen. When one is lying prone and starts to crawl the natural inclination is to raise one's butt. Soldiers are trained not to do this, but it's easy to forget when they're under fire.
** Referenced in ''Literature/AllQuietOnTheWesternFront'' when one of the protagonists places the helmet of a fear-stricken recruit over the recruit's backside, on the grounds that this is his highest point (they are all sheltering from a bombardment as best they can)
** Referenced in a few of Bill Mauldin's earlier WWII cartoons. In one, a sergeant claps a soldier's helmet over his raised ass, saying to put it where it'll do the most good. In another, the sergeant demonstrates the consequences of improper crawling by going down the line with a spiked board.
* During UsefulNotes/WorldWarII, George Patton's son-in-law, Lt. Col. John Waters, was shot in the ass during a botched raid on Oflag 13B, a German POW camp (he had been taken prisoner in Tunisia two years earlier). To add to the irony, Patton approved the raid in the first place ''specifically'' to rescue him.
* In Chicago, this has become so common that heyjackass.com has created the [[https://heyjackass.com/2022-shot-in-the-ass-o-meter/ Shot in the Ass-O-Meter]]. There is also the [[https://heyjackass.com/2022-shot-in-the-junk-o-meter/ Shot in the Junk-O-Meter]].
* Joey Porter, American football linebacker best known for his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was shot in the ass as a bystander of a shooting outside a Denver nightclub shortly before the 2003 season. While he missed the first two games while recovering from the injury, and had a sub par season by his standards, he continued to play until 2011, including 3 season where he made the Pro Bowl.
* Commonly done to tranquilize large wild animals via [[TranquilizerDart dart gun]], as approaching them from behind is safer for the shooter and less likely to scare the animal off. With cheetahs, it's even necessity; they're such [[FragileSpeedster Fragile Speedsters]] that the muscle of the upper leg is the only part of them thick enough to be darted without the risk of literally breaking a bone.
* In Finnish, saying that someone is "like a bear that's been shot in the ass" is a metaphor for describing someone who is as angry as, well, [[BearsAreBadNews a bear that's been]] [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin shot in the ass]].
* UsefulNotes/JohnKerry received his 3rd and final Purple Heart from a bullet struck his backside while serving in UsefulNotes/TheVietnamWar; and the nature of that particular wound not surprisingly led to much ridicule from conservatives during Kerry's campaign for President in 2004.
