->''”We met while filming ''Film/AllAboutEve''. I was Margo Channing, and he was my director, Bill Sampson. We fell in love with each other in the film and in real life. We then got married in real life. But he thought he was marrying Margo, and I thought I was marrying Bill. It wasn’t long before he found out I wasn’t Margo, and he was certainly no Bill Sampson.”''

A pair of performers fall in love while working together, possibly even getting married and/or having kids over time. This happens quite a bit in Hollywood and is prime tabloid fodder. Such relationships seem to have a high breakup rate, but there are some long-lasting marriages that started this way.

What is actually being filmed is largely irrelevant. They're often a couple onscreen as well--when you spend all day pretending to be in love with someone, you may end up BecomingTheMask. However, it doesn't always happen that way. The point of the trope is that behind the scenes the two fall for each other.

TheMuse is a SubTrope, which is about a male movie director falling in love with his lead actress. CastIncest is another subtrope, namely the first type where the couple met while playing relatives, which adds a level of {{Squick}} before further thought reveals that it's no different from any other role.

In live theatre circles, the phenomenon is known as a "showmance" and tends to [[SickeninglySweethearts annoy their costars to no end]]. When it happens within a musical group, it's known as "bandcest," and while it tends to end badly, the fallout from the breakup often leads to [[CelebrityBreakUpSong the band's most famous work]]. [[Music/{{Rumours}} Just ask]] Music/FleetwoodMac.

Compare FriendshipOnTheSet, which is the platonic version and ActorShipping, where the fans ''want'' this to happen. Contrast HostilityOnTheSet, where the actors loathe each other... extra points if it comes ''after'' a relationship. See also PublicityStuntRelationship.

* Model Creator/KateUpton and [[UsefulNotes/{{Baseball}} pitcher]] Justin Verlander began to date after meeting on the set of a commercial for the ''Major League Baseball [=2K12=]'' video game. They eventually married in late 2017, fittingly after Verlander helped the Astros win the World Series that year.
* Razor manufacturer Schick had a series of commercials set in the Wild West during the early 1980s featuring a model named Jennifer Wallace as the "Schick Sheriff". One of the commercials in that series featured an appearance by [[UsefulNotes/NationalFootballLeague San Francisco 49ers]] quarterback Joe Montana; with the two dating soon afterwards and eventually marrying in 1985.

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* Creator/KenichiSuzumura and Creator/MaayaSakamoto were first acquainted with each other when working on ''Manga/MizuiroJidai'' in 1996. In 2004, they were cast together as Shinn Asuka and Lunamaria Hawke, respectively, in ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny''. As the years went by, they seemed to constantly play love interests in a lot of titles they were cast in together, such as [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Zack Fair and Aerith Gainsborough]], [[Literature/TheGardenOfSinners Mikiya and Shiki]], and in a more one-sided case, [[Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub Hikaru and Haruhi]]. Then in 2011, they got [[HappilyMarried married]].
* This happened between American voice actors Creator/MonicaRial and Matt Kelly while they were doing voice acting in ''Manga/BlueSeed''. Monica was Momji and Matt was Kusanagi. They married after the voice dubbing was done. But they divorced shortly afterwards.
* A-list stars Creator/YuukiKaji and Creator/AyanaTaketatsu shocked the entire anime world when they announced their marriage all of a sudden on June 23, 2019. Seiyuu fans are rife with speculation on when exactly their relationship started since the couple kept it under wraps extremely well (the first anime they both were cast in was ''Anime/StarDriver'' from 2010), but a good number of watchers are pretty sure that ''Literature/HighSchoolDxD'' must have played a role in it. Extra points for having Issei and Koneko as love interests ([[HaremGenre one of many for Issei]]) and the anime adaptation ongoing in one form or another from 2012-2018, as well as other ''[=DxD=]'' adaptations with voice acting such as video games, radio shows, and drama [=CDs=]. It's also certainly not a coincidence that the announcement was made on Taketatsu's 30th birthday.
* InUniverse example in ''Manga/YuriIsMyJob''. [[spoiler:Nene Saionji and Yoko Goeida]] entered into an actual romantic relationship while working at the Liebe Girls' Academy salon, in which they roleplayed as students at an all-girls school. This was on top of their relationship as "schwestern," which they formed by [[spoiler:Saionji dissolving her own schwestership with Sumika]]. The relationship ended very badly, with [[spoiler:Goeida]] leaving [[spoiler:Saionji]] behind without batting an eye, and [[spoiler:Saionji]] being hurt so badly that she left the salon for good... [[spoiler:but actually stayed on as a cook]].
* On December 29, 2019, Creator/TasukuHatanaka and Creator/SayakaSenbongi announced they had gotten married. When it comes to seiyuu relationships, this one went at lightning speed compared to most other marriages in the business: The two had first met when they were cast together as the main characters of ''Anime/KabaneriOfTheIronFortress'' only a little over three and a half years earlier. As a bonus, said characters also develop romantic feelings for each other.
* Creator/KazuhiroYamaji and Creator/RomiPark posted their marriage announcement on January 22, 2020 (which was Park's 48th birthday). Both of them are veteran voice actors with decades of experience in the industry, but their one major project together was in ''Manga/AttackOnTitan's'' third season, voicing Kenny and Hange.
* Creator/TomoakiMaeno and Creator/MikakoKomatsu announced their marriage on May 12, 2020. They've been in a few anime together, such as ''Anime/YuGiOhZexal's'' second season, ''Anime/PrettyRhythmRainbowLive'', and ''Anime/FairyGone'', always where one plays a major character while the other is a minor supporting character. However, their most significant shared voice acting project was when they played the two lead characters of ''Manga/AoharuXMachinegun'', to the point that the creator of the manga even made a [[https://twitter.com/ag0NAOE/status/1260259548427948043 special drawing]] of their characters in honor of their marriage.
* Creator/KenshoOno and Creator/KanaHanazawa announced their marriage in their Twitter on July 8, 2020. Their best-known cast together is ''VisualNovel/PrinceOfStride'' as Hozumi Kohinata and Nana Sakurai.
* Creator/AyakaSuwa announced she had gotten married on New Year's Day 2023 to manga artist Kotoba Inoya. In [[https://twitter.com/suwa_ayaka/status/1609383954309853184 her post]] she said they met due to working together on the anime adaptation of his manga ''Manga/SmileDownTheRunway'' (where she voice acted a minor character).
* Creator/YuumaUchida and Creator/RinaHidaka announced their marriage on New Year's Day 2024. This was a major shock to their fans as there had been zero hint they were in a relationship in spite of having worked together on several anime over the past 5 years, such as ''Literature/TheRyuosWorkIsNeverDone'', ''Anime/Tokyo24thWard'', the ''Literature/ThatTimeIGotReincarnatedAsASlime: Scarlet Bond'' movie, and ''Literature/ShangriLaFrontier'', which was still airing at the time of the announcement. In addition, they had already been cast to play in the movie ''Bloody Escape: Jigoku no Tousou Geki'' as well as the anime adaptation of ''Literature/VillainessLevel99'', both of which would debut in January 2024 just a few days after the announcement. Shirow Shiratori, the author of ''Ryuo's Work'', [[https://twitter.com/nankagun/status/1741692328799359108 made a post]] the next day about how the characters they played made their relationship a reality (unlike how the light novels went).
* Creator/YoheiAzakami and Creator/HitomiOhwada also announced their marriage on New Year's Day 2024. Their most notable roles together are in the ''[[VideoGame/AtelierSeries Atelier Ryza]]'' trilogy (as well as the anime adaptation) as Bos Brunnen and Klaudia Valentz, respectively.
* Creator/AyaHirano announced on January 3, 2024 that she married ''Franchise/KamenRider'' actor Masashi Taniguchi. They had earlier been [[https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2023-07-10/chainsaw-man-stage-play-ad-reveals-cast-led-by-aya-hirano/.200119 announced to be part of the cast]] for the ''Manga/ChainsawMan'' live stage play as Makima and Kishibe in July 2023, which then had its theatrical run from September to October 2023.

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* Creator/AlanMoore met his second wife Melinda Gebbie while working on the pornographic comic book ''Lost Girls''. They married in 2007 and are still together.

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* Shinji and Asuka in the ''Fanfic/AdviceAndTrust'' AnimatedActor omakes are just as in love with each other as their InUniverse counterparts (but without any of the codependency issues). Later omakes reveal that [[MyOwnPrivateIDo they got married in secret]] during a trip to Vegas.
* Happens InUniverse between Phineas and Isabella in ''Fanfic/FindingDad'' while they sing a karaoke duet version of their one hit wonder Gitchee Gitchee Goo before having their first kiss.

[[folder:Films - Animated]]
* The Norwegian voice actors of Nani and David from ''WesternAnimation/LiloAndStitch'', Heidi Gjermundsen Broch and Nicolai Cleve Broch would later get married in real life. They would also later do the voices of Riley's parents in the Norwegian dub of ''WesternAnimation/InsideOut''.
* ''WesternAnimation/SleepingBeauty'': Mary Costa, the voice of Aurora, revealed in an interview that during production, she and the actresses playing the fairy godmothers (Verna Felton, Barbara Jo Allen, and Barbara Luddy) were all attracted to Bill Shirley, the voice of Prince Phillip, and flirted with him.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* In the short story "Who Am I This Time?" by Kurt Vonnegut, the main character completely takes on the persona of whatever character he performs in the community play. A beautiful but socially awkward woman, when performing ''A Streetcar Named Desire'' with him, falls in passionate love with his persona. By living a life of RomanceOnTheSet through various plays, they become HappilyMarried.
* In-Universe in ''Literature/{{Redshirts}}'', Jenkins, whose wife had been Redshirted years before, sends a love letter to the actress who played her in Chronicles of the Intrepid when Dahl and the others go to the real world. In one of the epilogues, it is implied that she then ends up in a relationship with the actor who played him.
* In the commentary for ''Literature/TheTalesOfBeedleTheBard'', Professor Dumbledore mentions the unfortunate casting choices in a [[SchoolPlay theatrical version]] of the story ''The Fountain of Fair Fortune'' - the students playing "Amata" and "Sir Luckless" had been dating until "one hour before the curtain rose," at which point "Sir Luckless" dumped "Amata" for the girl who was playing "Asha." The two actresses began to duel and the resulting disaster is why Hogwarts no longer does school plays.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Roleplay]]
* At least one couple in ''RolePlay/WeAreAllPokemonTrainers'' have ended up in a relationship just like their characters.
