Basically, this is when the main outfit of a redhead, auburn, or even a pink-haired character is (at least mostly) green. This trope can sometimes be used to hint that somebody is of Scottish, Irish, or in rare cases, Slavic or Jewish descent, but sometimes, illustrators use it for traditional RedGreenContrast or because they just feel like it. Bonus points if the character in question has nature-themed abilities.

The trope comes from a long-standing tradition among fashionistas that red and orange hair contrasts best against green or blue attire, which is one reason redheads are encouraged to wear green, and sometimes blue, to make a striking visual appearance.

See SignificantGreenEyedRedhead for a similar theme.

* The current spokeswomen for Wendy's, the real Wendy the hamburger chain was named after and a representative of the girl on the logo, are both vibrant redheads who frequently wear green.

* Marc of Anime/HelloSandybelle is a rare male example of this. He has ginger hair and blue eyes, and when Sandybell meets him for the first time, he's wearing a sunhat and a white coat over a green jacket.
* Noriaki Kakyoin from Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureStardustCrusaders wears a green school uniform. Combined with his pinkish-red hair, it makes him have the colour palette of a cherry.
* Misaki from Anime/K wore a long-sleeved green shirt in his younger days. Now he wears green cargo pants.
* The one "fancy" civilian outfit Asuka from Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion wears (on her offscreen "Date") is entirely green in about three shades.

* Brief from Anime/PantyAndStockingWithGarterbelt is normally seen in a green hoodie and pants.

* Sailor Jupiter from Franchise/SailorMoon has a variation of this. Although Makoto's hair color is inconsistent in the manga of Manga/SailorMoon, as it ranges from brown to auburn to pink and even blond in some illustrations, in Anime/SailorMoonCrystal her hair is definitely pink and her outfit is green.
%%* From Anime/ShadowSkill, Kyou Ryu. The trope fits so well, it's almost surprising that Elle didn't throw a net over her to steal her pot o' gold. (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample)
* Kurama from Manga/YuYuHakusho loves this trope. He has long, bright red hair, and large green eyes. In some instances, he is seen wearing an olive-green Chinese outfit. Those bonus points may also be rewarded--he is a master at controlling plants.
* Android 16 in Anime/DragonBallZ, though his green "armor" is apparently part of his body.
* Anime/VoltesV: Subverted with Lozaria, the deceased first wife of . She has brownish-red hair, and in his flashback, she is seen wearing a green PimpedOutDress with yellow ribbons.
* Anime/LucyMayOfTheSouthernRainbow has Lucy's big sister Kate. While Lucy-May often wears pink, and Ben, Clara and Tob often wear blue, Kate's clothes are almost always green. She also has reddish-brown hair that she inherited from her mother.

*** Sometimes, The Riddler. The hair varies, but it frequently comes back to red to complement that green Riddler suit.

** Guy Gardner, the resident FieryRedhead of the ComicBook/GreenLantern Corps.

** Mera, Queen of Atlantis and longtime love interest of ComicBook/Aquaman, has flaming red hair and a green, scaly, skintight number.
** Reformed rogue and close friend of Wally West, Pied Piper/Hartley Rathaway. His orange hair and bright green attire contrast well. At least when he's not being drawn as blonde.
** ComicBook/WonderWoman:
*** Volume 1: Queen Atomia is an EvilRedhead in a green dress, with green gems in her crown and other jewelry.
*** In the Post-Crisis continuity, Diana's friend and temporary AntiHeroSubstitute Artemis is a redhead who can usually be picked out from a crowd due to her long red hair and green suit, though when she was pulled in as a ComicBook/RedHoodAndTheOutlaws character her outfit got a recolor to red.

*** Jackpot wore a green and white costume with red hair (actually a wig). She later changed the costume to one with a red-black color scheme, though.
*** Norman Osborn, AKA the Green Goblin, has red hair, although his costume hides it.
* ComicBook/Melusine: Mélusine is a red-haired witch, and her standard outfit is mostly green (dress, hat and shoes) with some black underneath.
* ComicBook/WerewolfByNight: Redhead Jack Russell really likes his green pants. 77

* WesternAnimation/The3LittlePigsTheMovie: Rublad, a red fox, wears a green vest. He even extends the aesthetic to his CoolBike, with the motorcycle being orange, and the sidecar, built to look like a shoe, being green.
* The Ghost of Christmas Present in WesternAnimation/BarbieInAChristmasCarol is a redhead who wears a green HappyHolidaysDress (and the skirt is even Christmas tree-themed).
* Merida from WesternAnimation/Brave wears a dark blue-green dress for most of the film, which stands out against her red hair. She's Scottish so she has the Celtic background down.
* Danny from WesternAnimation/CatsDontDance is a red-furred anthropomorphic cat who typically wears a green shirt.
* WesternAnimation/Coraline: Ms. Spink, whose hair is turning a faded pink and who always wears an emerald dressing gown. All of the posters of her (and Ms. Forcible) as a young woman show her with bright red hair and a green outfit.
* Franchise/DisneyAnimatedCanon:
** Creator/Disney's incarnation of WesternAnimation/PeterPan has red hair, and wears a green outfit intended to invoke leaves.
** Likewise with WesternAnimation/RobinHood1973. Any iteration of Myth/RobinHood is bound to wear the Outfit Lincoln green, which -- combined with Disney's choice to adapt the character as an anthropomorphic red fox in a WorldOfFunnyAnimals -- leads to this trope.
** Taran from WesternAnimation/TheBlackCauldron is a redhead who wears a green vest and pants.
** Fagin from WesternAnimation/OliverAndCompany sports bushy red hair and a large green trenchcoat, alluding to his book counterpart's portrayal as a GreedyJew by invoking imagery commonly used in Creator/CharlesDickens' time to code characters as Jewish (together with his SizableSemiticNose).
** Ariel from Franchise/TheLittleMermaid has a green tail in contrast with her bright red hair. This was actually one of the reasons the directors of the film decided to make her into a redhead in the first place. This is downplayed in WesternAnimation/RalphBreaksTheInternet in that her shorts are green, but her t-shirt is purple, likely a nod to her seashell bra. Furthermore, while she wears a pink dress in much of the film, merchandise often portrays her in seafoam green dresses, not just because the color complements her red hair, but also because Ariel in pink would get her confused with Aurora, who wears pink in merchandise but blue in film.
** Quasimodo from WesternAnimation/Disney has red hair and wears a green tunic.
** Anna from Franchise/Frozen has strawberry-blonde hair, and most of the dresses in her wardrobe are made of shades of green. The only exception is actually her most iconic outfit, her traveling clothes, which are blue and magenta. In WesternAnimation/RalphBreaksTheInternet, her casual clothes include a green plaid shirt.
** WesternAnimation/Zootopias Nick Wilde is a red fox who wears a green shirt for the majority of the movie.
* WesternAnimation/AGoofyMovie:
** Roxanne wears a turquoise shirt as part of her default clothing.
** A straighter example occurs in WesternAnimation/AnExtremelyGoofyMovie, with Sylvia Marpole and her bright green disco outfit.
* Downplayed somewhat in WesternAnimation/ThePeanutsMovie. The Little Red-Haired Girl wears a bright teal dress with matching socks and hair ribbon.
* Cousin Mel from WesternAnimation/GrandmaGotRunOverByAReindeer has red hair and wears a green square-neck blouse.
* Franchise/HowToTrainYourDragon:
** Downplayed with Hiccup. He has auburn hair, but one of his consistent cloth colors is green (i.e., green tunic, green pants, etc).
** Hiccup's father Stoick is a straight example, as he has brighter red hair and, like his son, wears a green tunic.
* The StopMotion puppet animation WesternAnimation/MadMonsterParty has Francesca, a curvy redhead who's in a green dress for much of the film.
* Fiona from Franchise/Shrek. At the end of the first movie, she becomes an ogress permanently and gains green skin.
* Downplayed in WesternAnimation/TurningRed. Ming usually wears a bright green blazer for most of the film but only briefly after the climax does she sport red hair. This applies to Mei's grandma and aunties as well except they wear dark green and/or teal clothing. Mei herself averts the trope completely: while she spends most of the movie with bright red hair, her preferred clothing is a red cardigan, pink polo shirt, and dark blue skirt.
* WesternAnimation/Wolfwalkers:
** Mebh is a FieryRedhead who also wears a green dress. Not only is she Irish, her green dress also highlights her connection to nature as a Wolfwalker.
** Downplayed with Mebh's mother Moll; she's also a redhead and part of her skirt is green, but she mainly wears purple.

* Film/BlackNarcissus: Features Sister Clodagh wearing green clothes in her Happy Flashbacks to her youth in Ireland. Her red hair is usually covered by her nun's habit, but in the flashbacks we see it loose and free, covered by a green scarf in one Christmas scene. In another she's wearing a pale green evening gown as her grandmother presents her with a pair of emerald earrings.
* Film/TheCallbackQueen: Kate Loughlin, an (Irish) redhead in a green dress on the movie's poster.

* Franchise/StarWars: While Mara Jade is frequently depicted in a catsuit, the Vision of the Future book cover (and a photoshoot with model Shannon [=McRandle=] depicting the same outfit) has her wear a green tunic.

* Rosa Blackwell from VideoGame/TheBlackwellSeries is a redhead that usually wears green or cyan.
* In VideoGame/BlazBlue, one of Ragna the Bloodedge's alternate colour schemes is this. 223* The Zoologist from VideoGame/Terraria wears a green tanktop and has bright orange-red hair, which is apparently the result of the fox bite that turned her into a lycanthrope. During full moon or a blood moon, her entire body is covered in orange-red fur similar to a red fox.

* As noted in the description, green and red are complementary colors, and many redheads are fond of green clothes and accessories as a result. The inverse also probably has something to do with it: redheads frequently have pale skin or a pinkish color to their skin, so cooler colors (such as blue, green and purple) are flattering for redheads. By contrast, warmer colors (like red, orange and yellow) can look unflattering (but not always). Actually, hardly anyone with lighter skin looks good in yellow.
* The Irish, who are stereotypically seen as very likely to have natural red hair (and there is actually some truth to this -- Ireland has the second highest percentage of redheads, only being beaten out by Scotland), also have a strong association with the color green.
* In Argentina, the Pelirrojos Club (Redhead Club) make gatherings where their redheaded attendants wear green t-shirts.
* In medieval Europe and for many centuries afterward, red hair and green clothes were commonly used to code characters as Jewish; since this was almost invariably done with antisemitic intent, a character being described as redheaded and/or dressed in green was usually the first sign that they were the villain of the story.
