->'''Mercenary:''' What, you gonna kill me with a tranq gun?\
'''Quinn:''' You took my kid, so yeah.
-->-- ''Film/ThePredator,'' a second before Quinn [[NotHyperbole does that]] via point-blank [[EyeScream eye shot]].

Paternal instinct can transform a BumblingDad into an ActionDad. If someone threatens his kids they will soon wish they'd never come within a mile of them. This is because fathers are expected to take care of their family and this naturally extends to keeping them safe. Such occasions serve as a way for a father to prove his worthiness--see ARealManIsAKiller. Expect his children to have a newfound respect for their father and for them to brag that MyDadCanBeatUpYourDad. If their relationship was previously strained expect it to improve.

Often Papa Wolf incidents serve as a way to reveal that a NonActionGuy is really a RetiredBadass or a CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass (or even a RetiredMonster). In contrast to a BoyfriendBlockingDad (who sometimes ''thinks'' he's this; there is no overlap between them), a Papa Wolf is always portrayed heroically because the latter is defending their kids from genuine threats instead of imagined ones.

A TeamDad may display a streak of this, but the Papa is more likely to be related to his children by blood or through formal adoption, and the children tend to be younger, which may be part of why the Papa Wolf is more oriented toward [[{{Protectorate}} protecting them]] rather than [[{{Mentors}} training them to defend themselves]]. However even completely grown children can summon this response in the face of crisis because they are ''still'' his children no matter how old or strong they get.

This is the [[DistaffCounterpart Spear Counterpart]] to MamaBear. When MamaBear and Papa Wolf ''[[BattleCouple team up]]'', no force on earth can stop them.

Subtrope of BewareTheNiceOnes. See also AFatherToHisMen and FamilyMan. Combining this with DisproportionateRetribution can lead to a KnightTemplarParent. If the guy is a teacher instead, he's a BadassTeacher. If the guy doing this is a sibling/cousin, you get BigBrotherInstinct. Inversely, see ParentsInDistress for the kids rescuing the dad. Evil characters can use this too; after all, EvenEvilHasLovedOnes. Expect such villains to be given a significant amount of CharacterDevelopment as the audience sees that for all of their villainy, they are GoodParents. A subtrope of the Papa Wolf is the BadassAndChildDuo, where an adult male badass takes it upon himself to protect an orphaned, unrelated young child. See also CubCuesProtectiveParent for examples from the animal kingdom, which might include a ''literal'' wolf.

Remember when adding examples that this is AlwaysMale. The female equivalent is MamaBear, so all {{Distaff Counterpart}}s should be placed there. When MamaBear and Papa Wolf team up, it's a BattleCouple and all pairs should be placed there. ParentsInDistress is the inversion, when Papa needs to be bailed out by the kids, and ExtremelyProtectiveChild is when the child exhibits this kind of general protectiveness over one or both of their parents.

Also, note that this is ''not'' the trope for being protective of one's friends, unless of course it is something like an IntergenerationalFriendship. In that case, it is okay. Otherwise, don't do it. Tropes about helping friends should go to AFriendInNeed, ThePowerOfFriendship etc.

[[folder:Advertising]]
* In the Advertising/GotMilk commercial [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UQ7I9g5pYM seen here]], [[Wrestling/TheRock Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson]] lets nothing - not a cat up a tree, a bank robbery, or even an AlienInvasion - keep him from getting milk for his kids.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Asian Animation]]
* In ''Animation/HappyHeroes'', despite knowing that the Supermen can protect themselves, Doctor H., their nonbiological father, can still act overprotective of them from time to time. For instance, in the Season 1 finale, he jumps between them and a giant robot... while injured.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Strips]]
* You don't want to mess with ComicStrip/DickTracy's kids. You really don't.
* ''ComicStrip/{{Popeye}}'' is fiercely protective of his adopted son, Swee'pea. Of course, having been raised by Popeye, Swee'pea can easily hold his own in a fight despite being only an infant.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Music]]
* Music/{{Nickelback}}'s song "I'd Come for You".
* Music/{{Eminem}}. Don't fuck with his daughters, or his evil alter ego Slim Shady will kick your ass. Ja Rule found this out the hard way; all he did was ''mention'' one of Eminem's daughters on a track, and Em was ready to tear Ja Rule's head off. Not only that, but he constantly mentions how he knows he has young fans, and that they listen to his lyrics to not only enjoy the music, but to feel better about themselves, and he’s proud of that fact.
-->I ain't here to save the fucking children\
But if one kid\
Out of a hundred million\
Who are goin' through a struggle\
Feels and can relate that's\
Great!
--->—'''The Monster'''
* Music/KanyeWest seems to be something of a {{Jerkass}} version of this when it comes to his new family.
* The Reign of Kindo's song "Breathe Again" is about one PapaWolf who, upon discovering that his kids' Christmas presents were stolen from the tree on Christmas Eve, [[NightmareFuel tracks down the thief, murders him in cold blood,]] and brings the presents back to his kids. [[LyricalDissonance Delivered in a mellow jazz-rock melody]].
* "I Will" by Music/{{Radiohead}}. According to Thom Yorke:
--> That's the angriest thing I've ever written. Almost inexpressible rage. Someone fucks with my family, I'm gonna kill them. That absolutely primal "you can do anything you like, but if you do that I'm not responsible for my actions"
* {{Deconstructed}} in the song "A Howling Dust" by Music/{{Cormorant}}, where said father murders an ultimately innocent man who shot his son in the leg by accident. Both face MyGodWhatHaveIDone, with the father drinking himself to death.
* The first two lines of Creator/WillSmith's "Just the Two of Us" have the singer as this.
--> From the first time the doctor placed you in my arms
--> I knew I'd meet death before I'd let you meet harm
* The Irish folk song [[https://mainlynorfolk.info/steeleye.span/songs/mysonjohn.html "My Son Tim"]], which dates to {{UsefulNotes/The Napoleonic Wars}}, tells of a sailor whose legs were [[WarIsHell blown off by a cannonball]]. When his father finds out about it, he vows to ''personally punish'' the rulers of the enemy states who harmed his son. (Though in some versions, it's [[MamaBear his mother]] who makes this threat)
--> ''And now I'll cross the ragin' main''
--> ''To the King of France and the Queen of Spain,''
--> ''And I'll make them rue the time''
--> ''That they shot away the legs of a child of mine!''
* Stolen City's video for the song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksYre7Av4OE "Faces"]] revolves around a transgender girl who gets beaten up by three bullies when they discover her secret. Throughout the course of the video, her father comes to accept her and walks back into the bar with her - giving each of the bullies a DeathGlare, making it clear that they won't be picking on his daughter again.
* John O'Brien from Paul Shapera's ''AudioPlay/TheNewAlbionRadioHour''. A {{cyborg}} {{super soldier}} used by New Albion's oppressive government to eradicate rebels, he finds his daughter [[MoralityPet Constance]] in the line of fire during one of his missions. As soon as he recognizes her, he turns against the other soldiers and starts slaughtering them to keep her safe.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Myths & Religion]]
* According to ''The Short Stories on the Tang People'' (唐人傳奇 Tangren Chuanqi), the Qian Tang Dragon King had a niece that he loved very much. When he found out that her husband abused her, he got so pissed off that he rescued the poor girl and then used his ElementalPowers to flood and destroy the city she lived in, as punishment for the {{Domestic Abuse}}r and the people who didn't help her in her time of need.
* When his son Hanuman was struck down by the [[BoltofDivineRetribution Vajra]], Vayu the Wind God of {{UsefulNotes/Hinduism}} went ''berserk'' and retreated into a cave cradling his unconscious boy, sucking away all air on the planet. He would not relent until the ''entire heavens'' came to his cave, revived (and blessed) his child and begged for his mercy. All this, despite the fact that Hanuman arguably incited the incident by trying to ''eat the Sun''. Granted, he was no more than a child and using the ''Vajra'' was overkill.
* OlderThanFeudalism: Athenians explained the name of the Areopagus by saying the first trial there was when [[Myth/ClassicalMythology Poseidon prosecuted Ares]] for murder, over the death of his son Alirrothios. Ares was acquitted on the defense that he was [[AttemptedRape protecting his daughter Alkippe from being raped by Alirrothios]].
* ''Literature/TheOdyssey'':
** The only reason Poseidon made Odysseus's journey home hell was because Odysseus had blinded his son Polyphemus. Polyphemus invoked his father's favor to avenge him, and dad complied.
** Odysseus himself tried to avoid joining the Trojan War effort by faking madness; he did this by plowing his fields and salting them, effectively ruining his own land. The emissary Palamedes decided to test Odysseus by ''placing Odysseus' infant son Telemachus in the path of the plow''. When Odysseus avoided touching little Telemachus, his cover was blown and had no choice but to go to Troy. Odysseus later got his revenge and the last laugh (sorta) by framing Palamedes for treason and getting him executed.
* Lucretia of Rome, according to tales the most [[ProperLady virtuous wife]] in the city was raped by an EvilPrince. She went up to both her father and husband, told her tale [[{{seppuku}} and then commited suicide]], as it was expected from dishonored Roman nobles ([[DefiledForever and sadly, even more in her case]]). In rage, both of these led Rome in a revolution and overthrew said EvilPrince.
* Apollo's son, Asclepius, was such a good healer that he brought someone back from the dead. This angered Hades, the god of the dead, who demanded Zeus kill him. Zeus did so with a lightning bolt, and Apollo was so angry that he killed the cyclopes that made the bolt. Although he ''did'' have to serve a king as a shepherd for a year, in the end he got what he wanted since his son was not only revived, but made into a god, and the king treated him well.
* ''Literature/TheBible'':
** Most of the text can be summed up as {{God}} [[GodIsGood guiding and protecting]] His chosen people from enemy empires, as well as protecting humanity as a whole from Satan and his servants. To say nothing on how He comes down to [[UsefulNotes/JesusChrist take a mortal form]] and [[HeroicSacrifice endure absolute Hell]] so that humanity doesn't have to.
** A huge portion of ''The Bible'' is an endless loop of the Israelites being a FaceHeelRevolvingDoor, being God-fearing one minute and worshiping idols the next. Yet every single time they cry out to God for help, He answers them.
** Joseph got his wife Mary and his foster son Jesus to Egypt and back on a freaking donkey to protect them from the Romans.
** UsefulNotes/{{Jesus}} inverts this in ''Literature/TheFourGospels''. The one and only time he truly gets angry is when he goes to his Father's temple and finds it desecrated. He sits down, braids a whip, then (metaphorically) unleashes hell.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Pinball]]
* Occurs in ''Pinball/WhoDunnit1995'' with [[spoiler:Butler, who is secretly Victoria's father Walter.]] When he overhears her husband threaten her (because he caught her [[BlackWidow plotting to kill him]]), he sabotages the brakes of the car and causes him to die in an auto accident.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Podcasts]]
* Lieutenant Victor Sabien of ''Podcast/BlackJackJustice'' has gained this reputation over his career as a homicide detective. Bad guys on the street know that if you hurt young girls, Sabien will come for you. "The Albatross" highlights this most strongly, as he simply can not let go of a case concerning the murder of a young, pregnant black girl, goes to Jack and Trixie for help when he's essentially taken off the case, and [[spoiler:comes within a hair's breadth of killing the man responsible once he's identified]]. A few episodes earlier, the narration mentioned Sabien had a teenage daughter.
* Cobalt, one of the leads of ''Podcast/PokemonWorldTourUnited'', has a very strong protective streak where his Pokemon are concerned, and it shows in the few times he shows genuine anger. When confronting Brian in the Underground Path, faced with Brian's insulting remarks towards Treble and the implication that [[spoiler:Brian was Treble's trainer before Cobalt got him]], he is far quicker than normal to engage in battle. In episode 30, upon discovering that Team Rocket has kidnapped [[spoiler:his Cubone and Nidoran among others]], his reaction is, quite simply, '''"They took my babies!"''' and, when he needs to get to them in a hurry to rescue them, simply jumps down on top of the Rocket currently threatening them with zero hesitation.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Professional Wrestling]]
* The famous "Cane Dewey" promo [[Wrestling/MickFoley Cactus Jack (Mick Foley)]] made toward the ECW fans, explaining why he had, seemingly out of nowhere, [[FaceHeelTurn turned heel]] on Wrestling/TommyDreamer and sided with Wrestling/{{Raven}}. It was brought about after seeing a sign in the crowd reading 'Cane Dewey'. [[DudeNotFunny Dewey is Mick Foley's son; at the time this happened, Dewey was only three years old]]. In real life, Foley was actually ''glad'' for the sign, as it gave him a reason to turn heel in {{kayfabe}}, something he was struggling with as he had no idea how the character was supposed to justify suddenly turning heel. The guy who brought the original sign [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone felt immensely guilty about it]], up until Foley actually told the guy that it had helped him out and that he had no hard feelings on the matter.
* Wrestling/{{Kamala}} was enough of a threat already but some foolish individuals decided to try and attack his various managers anyway, making him even more dangerous.
* In RealLife, Wrestling/{{Vince McMahon}} is an example of this. As Wrestling/TripleH said, "Hurt his wife or kids and he will use every resource he has to destroy you." And don't even get us started on what happens if you try to touch his company.
* Wrestling/CMPunk's feud with Wrestling/ReyMysterioJr started with Punk interrupting Rey, who was celebrating his daughter's birthday. Wrestling/EddieGuerrero brought this side out in Rey as well in regards to his son, Dominic.
** Heaven help you if you powerbomb Dominic from the ring to the floor like Wrestling/RomanReigns did.
* Wrestling/WilliamRegal showed this previously unseen side of himself due to HHH's attempts to manipulate [[Wrestling/NickDinsmore Eugene]].
* Subverted with Wrestling/DustyRhodes, who tried to be this for his son Wrestling/CodyRhodes in the summer of 2007 but was beaten senseless with a cowbell by Wrestling/RandyOrton for his trouble. After this, [[Wrestling/BobHolly Hardcore Holly]] took over as Cody's father figure.
** Subverted again when Cody turned on Holly and teamed up with Wrestling/{{Ted DiBiase Jr}}. , costing himself and Holly the tag team titles in the process.
* Wrestling/JamesStorm turned into this on one episode of ''[[Wrestling/ImpactWrestling TNA Impact]]'', when Wrestling/BobbyRoode made a sexual comment about Storm's young daughter.
* Wrestling/UncleElmer (Wrestling/HillbillyJim's uncle) was ordinarily an enormously fat, lazy, slow-witted buffoon. But threaten his nephew or one of his own two boys, and he might just sit on you until you beg for mercy.
* In RealLife, Wrestling/TheUndertaker is this towards the younger superstars in the locker room (and that's everybody).
* Wrestling/KevinSteen is already known to be one not to be messed with, but you dare mock his son, he will reign vengeance upon thee... [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and let his son get the pin on you.]]
** He was also victim of this when he mocked Wrestling/ShaneMcMahon's family and said that Shane was the one who should have died in the accident. Shane had to be physically restrained.
* [[Wrestling/AlPoling 911]] was this way towards anyone who threatened his manager, [[Wrestling/PaulHeyman Paul E. Dangerously]].
* Wrestling/MikeQuackenbush is this toward his students and Wrestling/{{CHIKARA}} in general, as his RoaringRampageOfRevenge against GEKIDO in 2012 proved, also qualifying as BewareTheNiceOnes[=/=]YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry.
* Wrestling/AlSnow was this way toward Maven and Wrestling/{{Nidia}}, who were the inaugural ''Wrestling/WWEToughEnough'' Champions. During Nidia's ''WWE Divas [[LingerieScene Undressed]]'' segment, she talked about how uncomfortable it was for "dad" to be there when she was topless.
* Wrestling/TonySchiavone is this to Wrestling/BrittBaker. As Schiavone revealed in an AEW webcast, Baker's real-life boyfriend Wrestling/AdamCole, who at the time was performing in [[Wrestling/{{WWENXT}} NXT]], specifically asked him to look after Baker on the road.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tabletop Games]]
* Most [[ProudWarriorRaceGuys Clans]] in ''TabletopGame/BattleTech'' look down on the unnecessary deaths of lower-caste civilians not as empathy for the suffering of innocents but as a needless waste, a concept they despise. Clan Ghost Bear, though? Hurt any of their people and they will ''end'' you. Just ask the [[ChurchMilitant Word of Blake]] or the Motstånd, a sepratist terror group operating in Rasalhauge. Both dared to use mass terror tactics that indiscriminately hit civilians and soldiers, whereupon the otherwise slow-to-act Bears promptly turned on them and messily ground them into bloody paste. The Ghost Bears are traditionally very tightly knit and embrace familiarity and even familial ties more than other Clans, so daring to attack any Ghost Bear is a great way to get lots of big angry people in HumongousMecha and PoweredArmor breathing down your neck in a hurry. Khan Bjorn Jorgensson basically held this view during the Alshain Avenger crisis, soundly crushing the renegade Black-Dragon-backed forces when they dared strike at his people on their Inner Sphere homeworld and accepting a truce after discovering and snuffing out the guilty parties responsible for the invasion.
* ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons''
** 1st Edition ''Monster Manual''. When a pair of mated dragons had offspring, any attack on the young dragons caused the father and mother to attack the intruders with a ferocity bonus of +2 to hit and +1/+3 on clawing/biting damage.
** 1st Edition ''Monster Manual II''. If a male cheetah's cubs are threatened he will attack at a +2 to hit and do +2 HitPoints damage per attack.
** In the ''TabletopGame/{{Ravenloft}}'' setting, Rudolph van Richten went PapaWolf on the Vistani band that kidnapped his son, and then hunted down the vampire who'd hired them to deliver the boy. It was revealed in ''Van Richten's Guide to the Vistani'' that the originally kindly and very forgiving doctor's curse of vengeance upon that particular Vistani clan for what they did is the reason why they can never rest in one place for more than a day or two. Because with his curse that "the undead take you" as they took his son to the undead, every surviving member of the clan is forever hunted by the undead until Van Richten lifts the curse with his forgiveness.
* ''TabletopGame/MagicTheGathering'' has quite a few, such as [[DarkIsNotEvil Jarad vod Savo]], towards his son Myc.
* The biography of Marc Oberlindes, a sample character of ''TabletopGame/{{Traveller}}'', tells how once when his son was imprisoned he recruited [[{{Posse}} a band]] [[PrivateMilitaryContractors of mercenaries]] to rescue him.
* Midkemia Press's supplement ''TabletopGames/HeartOfTheSunkenLands''. If two of the monsters known as Purples are encountered, they will be a mated pair. One quarter of mated pairs will have a cub with them. If so, each Purple will make attacks at +4 "to hit" while the cub is present.
* ''TabletopGame/Warhammer40000'':
** The [[BarbarianHero Space Wolves]] Chapter of the [[SuperSoldier Adeptus Astrtes]] are this towards civilians and innocents, and will hunt down and ''[[RoaringRampageOfRevenge destroy]]'' anyone who hurts one - even other Space Marines or the Inquistion.
** The [[ScaryBlackMan Salamanders]] Chapter consider the protection of Imperial civilians and innocents to be their primary purpose and objective, and are the only known Astartes Chapter that makes protecting civilians their mission in all things; anyone harming the ordinary humans of the Imperium or threatening them is rather prone to dying horribly from the fire-based weapons they favor.
** Kill one of Sanguinius's Blood Angels (ergo: Sons) and he WILL break your spine. Likewise, if you hurt Sanguinius, the Blood Angels will tear you apart.
** Unusually for a Runtherd, the 2nd Edition [[OurOrcsAreDifferent Ork]] special character Zodgrod Wortsnagga had a tendency to get extremely protective of his [[SlaveRace Gretchin and Snotling]] trainees and gets quite upset if they are killed needlessly. This came to a head in one battle when Zodgrod fired a Mekboy through his own [[WeaponizedTeleportation Shokk Attack Gun]] for wasting the lives of his Runts.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Theatre]]
* In ''Theatre/LoveNeverDies'', after Christine sings the title song, she discovers her son Gustave is missing. Needless to say, his father is livid. He is ready to use every bit of his influence to stop [[spoiler:Raoul de Chagny]] from leaving Coney Island, and to manhandle and/or murder [[spoiler: the Girys]] to get back his son.
* In {{Theatre/Macbeth}}, Macduff’s response to having his family slaughtered is (after weeping his eyes out) to murder the bitch that ordered the killings.
* Deconstructed in ''{{Theatre/Matilda}}'', as the Escapologist is so enraged at the Acrobat's sister's abuse of his daughter that once he discovers it, he goes to confront her himself. Unfortunately, she is a former world-class Olympic champion and is heavily implied to have murdered him, leaving [[spoiler: Jenny]] with nobody to protect her from her aunt's wrath.
* After Romeo fatally stabs Tybalt in "Theatre/RomeoAndJuliet", Lord Montague defends his doing so because Tybalt had killed Mercutio.
* In ''Theatre/SweeneyToddTheDemonBarberOfFleetStreet'', Judge Turpin's mistreatment of Johanna is half of Sweeney's motivation to go on a murdering rampage (the other half being, of course, [[RapeAsDrama what the bastard did to his wife Lucy after transporting him for life]]).
* In ''Theatre/TheTempest'', Prospero could be considered one in his fierce protectiveness of Miranda.
* Captain Walker in the 1993 musical of ''Music/{{Tommy}}''. And he's not very happy when he discovers his wife and son with her new {{jerkass}} lover on her 21st birthday!
* In ''Theatre/{{Rigoletto}}'', after the title character's daughter Gilda is kidnapped by the courters and handed over to the lecherous Duke, Rigoletto threatens to kill them all with his bare hands unless they give her back to him. After Gilda emerges from the Duke's bedroom [[RapeAsDrama without her virginity]], Rigoletto secretly arranges to have the Duke murdered by the hit man Sparafucile. [[spoiler: Tragically, it backfires, as Gilda loves the Duke and performs a HeroicSacrifice to save him.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Visual Novels]]
* ''Franchise/AceAttorney'':
** With Phoenix Wright and Maya, it's a tossup between a father-daughter and brother-sister relationship. Either way, if you try to arrest Maya, he'll defend her with every last '''''Objection!''''' he has. If you kidnap her, he'll [[spoiler:stall the trial and call in a favor with the prosecution to keep it going until she's safe.]]. And if she's in actual physical danger, he'll [[spoiler:charge across a burning bridge over a hundred-foot drop into an icy river to save her.]]
** Phoenix also displays this for his protégés, Apollo Justice and Athena Cykes, even boasting a TeamDad role in ''Duel Destinies'' when Apollo's confused feelings about Athena's apparent connection to the murder of his childhood friend Clay lead to him distancing himself from her, to her clear distress.
** In ''Investigations'' there's Kay and her 'Uncle Badd'. [[spoiler:If Lang hadn't gotten in the way, we probably wouldn't have to worry about giving Shih-na a trial.]]
** From ''Trials and Tribulations'', we learn that Bruto Cadaverini is a PapaWolf to his granddaughter [[spoiler: Viola]]. [[TheDon You don't want to piss this guy off]].
** In ''Dual Destinies'', there's Phoenix and Trucy. [[spoiler:When she's taken hostage, he quickly agrees to the demand to hold a re-trial for Simon Blackquill, even having it be held in a bombed courtroom to make sure it happens.]]
** Blackquill is willing to accept execution for a crime he didn't commit to protect Athena.
** Damian Tenma from case 2. Throughout the entirety of his incarceration, his daughter Jinxie is never far from his mind. For starters, he repeatedly threatens to break out of jail when he thinks she needs him. [[spoiler: Even when he was extorted with his daughter's safety to agree to a town merger, he only objects to it with a secret identity, while publicly pushing for it, even if it means everybody in his home town will hate him. And that's not even mentioning ''pretending to be possessed'' in order to disrupt the court proceedings and make himself a valid witness when Jinxie is accused of being an accomplice to his alleged crime.]] It's made overwhelmingly clear that there's nothing he won't do for Jinxie's sake.
* Lucio Steelwind from ''VisualNovel/TyrionCuthbertAttorneyOfTheArcane'' will resort to extreme measures in order to protect his daughter. [[spoiler:Aria is the puppet of King Aster thanks to a Blood Contract he tricked her into signing, and the only way to free her is if Aria or Aster dies. Lucio has his doubts because a kingdom without a king has a bleak future... but then Celeste is revealed to have a claim on the throne as well, so Lucio kills him on the spot even if it means he will spend the rest of his life in prison for regicide.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Animation]]
* In ''WebAnimation/DeathBattle'', Vegeta maintains equal footing with Zod for most of the fight, until Zod reveals a captured Trunks and threatens to kill him if Vegeta will not kneel. Cue Vegeta HAMMERING Zod with blows in a fit of rage.
-->"THAT'S. MY. SON. YOU. GOD. DAMNED. BASTARD!"
* Pop from ''WebAnimation/HappyTreeFriends'' is usually [[BumblingDad really]] [[ParentalObliviousness bad]] at being a father despite his good intentions, and actually gets his son killed more often than not. However, the few times he actually notices Cub is in danger, he will [[{{Determinator}} stop at nothing]] to save him, like when he successfully fends off a rabid dog in "[[Recap/HTFDoggoneIt Doggone It]]".
* In ''WebAnimation/IfTheEmperorHadATextToSpeechDevice'', the Emperor is very happy with the news that he has biological children. When he finds out what happened to them, though, Warp storms abound over perpetrators' heads.
* ''WebAnimation/HomestarRunner'': Strong Mad gets like this when his best friend (nephew? pet?), The Cheat, is physically abused.
* ''WebAnimation/RevengeFilms'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EomfHJZIN2M Claire]] was being assaulted by her stepfather, the bus driver. Her mother Penny called her biological father Jake, who rushed to the scene and oversped to the point where he was stopped by the police. When Jake told the police officer about the situation, they both went to stop the stepfather from assaulting Claire. Jake gave the bus driver a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown, to the point where the police officer had to restrain him.
* ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'': [[CoolUncle Qrow]] is Yang's maternal uncle but he loves Yang's half-sister Ruby just as much as Yang. Nothing stands between him and his nieces: he rescues Yang and Ruby from a hoard of Grimm when they were young children and he spends Volume 4 secretly following Ruby's group through the wilds of Anima, killing any Grimm that get too close. He only reveals his presence when Ruby's group find themselves fighting the vastly superior Tyrian, charging in to protect Ruby from being seriously injured. [[spoiler: When the fourteen-year old Oscar locates Qrow in Volume 5 to reveal he's [[LegacyCharacter Ozpin's new reincarnation]], it means that [[BigGood Ozpin's]] vast abilities are limited by Oscar's young, untrained body. When Hazel tries to kill Oscar for being the new host of the man he blames for his sister's death, Qrow's UndyingLoyalty to Ozpin combines with his instinct for protecting children; he throws himself in harm's way over and over again to prevent Oscar's death, only stopping once he's too badly injured to fight any more.]]
* Wash in ''WebAnimation/RedVsBlue'' becomes fiercely protective of the Reds and Blues. He pulls a gun on Carolina when the latter threatened to shoot Tucker. He went out of his way to rescue Donut from an attacking Tex robot, perhaps as a way to make up for [[spoiler: shooting Donut earlier]]. He performed a HeroicSacrifice, ordering Freckles to collapse a cave to give Tucker, Caboose, Simmons and Grif enough time to escape despite knowing he will be trapped on the other side with the attacking Feds. He stepped in front of Sarge, Donut and Lopez when Locus appeared, readying his gun.
* ''WebAnimation/{{Dreamscape}}'': [[OurDragonsAreDifferent Liz]] is fiercely protective of Dylan, and will dish out a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown to anyone who harms him.
* ''WebAnimation/CampCamp'': David may be a nice and friendly guy, but threatening any of his charges is a ''bad'' idea. [[spoiler:When Daniel pulled a knife on Max, he ''immediately'' tackled the guy to the ground.]]
* ''WebAnimation/HelluvaBoss'': Under no circumstances should you even ''think'' about hurting Prince Stolas' daughter Octavia. [[{{TakenForGranite}} Or else.]] Example: his on/off lover and main protagonist Blitz told him Octavia had gone missing. His response?
--> (''Breaks down the IMP headquarters door hard enough for it to slam into Moxxie'') '''''[[SayMyName BLITZ!!!!!!!!!]]'''''
* WebAnimation/WolfSongTheMovie: Damien is a literal example of this trope, willing to go through a lot in order to protect his kids and his pack at large (he basically adopted them and although not the best teacher, he has [[{{NobleWolf}} good intentions]].)He perfectly sums up this trope nicely in his own words:
->Damien:”everything I do is to protect my family”

* ''Webcomic/CrowTime'': Every goth has a crow guardian assigned to them, which seem to take on a parental role to the goth. When Verona's crow hears about her abusive ex-boyfriend, her crow is implied to be planning to ''murder'' him.
-->'''Crow''': ''[tear in its eye]'' Oh my goodness! They grow up so fast!
-->'''Spider''': Her last boyfriend was a dick though. It's been a hard year, wait till you hear all of it.
-->'''Crow''': Wow, that's a shame. Where does he live? Asking for a friend, haha.
%% This is a zero context example. Please do not unhide until further context has been added. * ''Webcomic/DaisyOwl'': Mr. Owl is a PapaWolf, despite being an owl. He's willing to go up against NASA armed only with a bear if it means saving his kids.
* Ed in ''Webcomic/{{Digger}}'' appears, for a Hyena, harmless and non-violent, [[spoiler:to the point he doesn't try to defend himself from or leave his abusive wife (hyenas are matriarchal, as is a major theme in Digger). That is, until his violent, mentally ill spouse started beating their daughter. This did not end well. ]]
* The Shintulla Chieftain from ''Webcomic/DominicDeegan'' gets royally pissed when [[spoiler:Jacob]] apparently kills his son. [[spoiler:Jacob's]] [[http://www.dominic-deegan.com/view.php?date=2009-08-28 expression]] makes it perfectly clear that he ''knows'' [[OhCrap he's screwed]].
** Most Weedles are just harmless little puffballs, but their Patriarchs are [[http://dominic-deegan.com/view.php?date=2010-07-20 very protective]].
* ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive'' gives us Mr. Verres. Sure, he's a ReasonableAuthorityFigure, sure he's an [[MemeticMutation endless barrel of exposition]], and sure he's a little eccentric. But mess with his son, his niece, or any of their friends, he '''WILL''' [[http://egscomics.com/?date=2009-11-03 blast you without warning or mercy.]]
* In ''Webcomic/ExterminatusNow'', Lothar Hex's adoptive mercenary father is fiercely protective of Lothar and his other foster son Kyle. He even threatened to cut out the hearts of the other main characters if anything happened to Lothar or Kyle because of their Inquisition work. Lothar is equally protective of his crazy mercenary family -- he and Rogue nearly killed each other when Rogue refused to believe Kyle selling weapons to cultists was just a stupid mistake and threatened to kill him and Lothar's dad.
* In ''Webcomic/TheFancyAdventuresOfJackCannon'' we have that rare example of both parents being Badass and protective of their son. Not that he can't stand for his own.
* ''Webcomic/TheGamer'' has Hwan Sung-Gon. He's feared far-and-wide as the Black Summoner and makes it clear to everyone that if they so much as think of touching his daughter, '''''they will die.''''' [[spoiler:When she's kidnapped by one of the nine strongest factions of Korea, he heads out to utterly annihilate it without a second thought. He would have destroyed it single-handedly if it weren't for the Eight Sealing Pillars.]]
* ''Webcomic/GetSchooled'': President Gangseok Choi is a tragic example. Two years before the start of the series, his only child, Gayoon, is brutally beaten to death by her own student. Gangseok just so happened to be the prime minister of education, and his daughter’s murder inspires him into kickstarting the Teacher's Rights Protection Agency (TRPA), an organization with the goal of defending both teacher's right to teach and students' rights to learn, especially from delinquents bullying both classmates and staff alike. He admits another major factor in TRPA’s founding is to make sure no one else will experience [[OutlivingOnesOffspring the same pain he did]].
** Warden Hwajin Na is no slouch either. He was a ex-soldier before joining the TRPA, and he gets really protective towards underaged bully victims. He’s especially vicious when dealing with adults who harm minors. Heck, he’s even brutal towards minors harming other minors. [[AbusiveParents Go Dong-Cheol]] learned the hard way why one should never beat your own child like a dog while Hwajin is within an earshot.
* ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'' has a number of them, most of them [[MadScientist Sparks]]:
** Adam Clay (né Punch) and his wife [[MamaBear Lilith]] (née Judy) are this toward their foster kid Agatha, willing to challenge [[TheEmpire the entire Wulfenbach regime]] to protect her.
** For that matter, Agatha's father Bill and her uncle Barry as well, to judge by flashbacks in both the comic and novelization. When Castle Heterodyne was wrecked and Bill's wife and children apparently dead, they embarked on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge to find and stop the Other. Given that the Other is still ''[[HorrifyingTheHorror terrified]]'' that [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20110223 Barry will show up]], they did a good job slowing the Other down.
** Even [[WellDoneSonGuy Baron Wulfenbach]] has his moments, albeit [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20040531 more subdued than most]]. And sometimes [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20150427 not so subdued]]. (Complicating matters somewhat in this case, the "Klaus" speaking here is [[spoiler:a mental imprint he put ''in'' his son...]]) Most plainly put, Klaus' reason for taking over most of Europe wasn't to seek power or out a desire to rule, but to keep his son safe.
%%** Othar Tryggvassen, '''GentlemanAdventurer!''', shows traits like this towards his sister.
%%* ''Webcomic/GoblinHollow'': When gargoyles come after ''his'' goblins: [[http://www.rhjunior.com/goblin-hollow-0303/ Ben in action]]
* ''Webcomic/{{Goblins}}'' has Pan, a blind ogre, fulfilling this role for Yala, a mute, disabled kobold who acts as his 'pilot'. Threatening Yala while Pan is nearby is a good way to get yourself brutalised, as the dwarf in [[https://www.goblinscomic.com/comic/03312009/ this strip]] finds out to his cost.
* In ''Goddamn Critical Hits,'' Dusty's father faces down a rampaging Vigoroth to protect him and his sister during an earthquake. [[spoiler:He's killed along with his daughter; Dusty is spared by evolving into an immobile Cascoon]].
* Zombie of ''Webcomic/HannaIsNotABoysName'' is [[TheStoic usually a pretty mellow guy,]] but [[http://hanna.aftertorque.com/?p=85 don't touch his friends]]. '''Ever.'''
** And you don't mess with ''him,'' either, or [[http://hanna.aftertorque.com/?p=804 you'll have Hanna to deal with.]]
* In ''Webcomic/TheInexplicableAdventuresOfBob,'' Mook the {{Bigfoot|SasquatchAndYeti}} is this to his son Rocko, almost starting a war by way of overreaction when Rocko gets stood up for a date.
** Bob [[TheStoic rarely loses his composure]] much beyond his stock look of DullSurprise. We've seen him scared or frantic upon occasion, but the only times we've seen him ''furious'' are the times Jerry has threatened Molly with a gun. When Bob believed she'd actually been hit, he launched himself at Jerry (who was armed) and tackled him without hesitation.
* ''Webcomic/KevinAndKell'':
** Even though his wife is the wolf in their marriage, Kevin Dewclaw can have his [[http://www.kevinandkell.com/1998/kk0325.html moments]]. When a rabbit's ready to go carnivore on his daughter's boyfriend....
** He also does have a moment or two of this with stepson Rudy Dewclaw, though nowhere near as much as with adopted daughter Lindesfarne due to the nature of their relationship early on.
** With his youngest daughter [[BadassAdorable Coney]] [[KillerRabbit Dewclaw]], this tends a lot more often to be inverted.
** Miranda Hutch, one of Rudy's gardening teammates at Beige University, has ''two'' fathers who are like this. She was adopted by her uncle when her parents were predated, and he is in a gay marriage. With her established rebellious tendencies and desire to date predators, they were compelled to hire a rhino classmate (Carl) to be her bodyguard after [[NoodleIncident a relationship with an unknown fox went south]]. It took a bit for them to accept her ultimate boyfriend and eventual husband, lion Edgar Carnassial; their acceptance was largely contingent on Kevin vouching for him through mutual friend Rudy.
* In ''[[http://luciphurrsimps.com/ Luci Phurr's Imps]]'', the three imps (Pain, Tears, and Misfortune/Alisdair) are devoted to happy, good little girl, Luci. But as some kids, adults, and even other imps have discovered, if you threaten or upset Luci, or try to take her away from the trio... you WILL end up regretting it.
* In ''Webcomic/{{Megatokyo}}'', Ed learned the hard way that just because Ibara may be a jerkass that leeches money off his daughter Junko doesn't mean he takes kindly to having a shotgun pointed in her general direction.
* ''Webcomic/MyDaughterIsAZombie'': Jeonghwan will die for his daughter Su-ah, who is a zombie and is supposed to be killed. When the chief of the village finds out, Jeonghwan takes a beating and refuses to back away, eventually causing the chief to relent after seeing what a true father is like. When Su-ah's biological father comes to kidnap her, Jeonghwan jumps off a cliff to stop the car and [[spoiler:has Su-ah bite the man so Jeonghwan has a reason to kill him. When Jeonghwan's crime catches up to him, he has Su-ah bite him so she won't have to die alone, and his sacrifice allows the soldiers to see that Su-ah is worth saving]].
%%* [[http://www.undefined.net/1/0/?strip=213 Max]] in ''Webcomic/OneOverZero''.
* In ''Webcomic/TheOrderOfTheStick'', Vaarsuvius' mate and children are threatened by the mother of a young black dragon the Order had slain earlier. [[spoiler:Vaarsuvius makes a deal with fiends to gain enough power to not only kill the dragon but use an epic spell to [[DisproportionateRetribution slay every single relative that black dragon had to great distance]]. His/her mate was suitably horrified. Said pastry chef then placed themself between V and the children, brandishing a stick.]]
* Brutus from ''Webcomic/PixieAndBrutus'' is a retired military dog who becomes quite protective of Pixie the kitten. Upon hearing about Randall the raccoon making threats to Pixie, Brutus makes a threat of his own to Randall that he would bite the raccoon’s tail off if he ever hurt Pixie. Needless to say, Randall is on his best behavior whenever Brutus is around.
* ''Webcomic/{{Rebirth}}'': Do ''not'' harm, or attempt to harm, Neo in front of Noah. [[spoiler: Ian found that out the hard way.]]
* Even though Iratu and Sakido are demons, when they are put in danger Darius, the angel from ''Webcomic/SlightlyDamned'', exemplifies this trope [[http://www.sdamned.com/2008/12/12202008/ in spades.]]
* ''Webcomic/{{Thespiphobia}}'''s Rich Gurney will MAUL YOU if you mess with his techies. [[BewareTheNiceOnes Any other time, he's the sweetest, most harmless guy on the planet]].
* Hon Akraptor from ''Webcomic/TowerOfGod'' is a PapaWolf who failed to protect his daughter. As a result, he is overcautious whenever it comes to Miseng, who resembles her. This includes trying to fail her so she gets out of the inner section of the Tower and beating up the creeps that get too close to her. Their relationship is rather shaky, to say the least.
* In ''Webcomic/{{Wigu}}'', Quincy Tinkle may be a happy, somewhat dumb guy, but if Wigu or Paisley are harmed he will go to great lengths to get revenge. To date, Quincy has [[spoiler:annihilated an alien insect that bit Wigu, fought off a group of Plesiosaurs with nothing but a knife when they attacked the Tinkle family van, and almost murdered Hamburglar after the latter hospitalized Wigu.]]
* Matt of ''Webcomic/WhiteDarkLife'' is portrayed like this in the RP sections of the series where he attacks three out of the four suitors for his children regularly. He gets even more violent when his children are in actual danger. Walls, mooks, witches, god like beings? he'll break all of them.
* ''Webcomic/{{Widdershins}}'': Rajeev has settled down since his days as a sailor, but when he walks in to find a gangster [[https://www.widdershinscomic.com/wdshn/july-31st-2020 holding his son]] at gunpoint, his first instinct is to [[TheCoatsAreOff whip his coat off]] and take the man on barehanded.

* WebVideo/BartBaker's ''Blurred Lines'' parody ends with Thicke being confronted by the father of a woman he impregnated against her will. Thicke then gets slugged by the guy, [[spoiler:and it's implied that he was raped by him while he was unconscious]].
* Website/ChannelAwesome:
** ''WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall'': Linkara has been known to do this for WebVideo/MarzGurl.
** So has Spoony of ''WebVideo/TheSpoonyExperiment'' when it comes to fanboys.
** And on the ''WebVideo/{{Kickassia}}'' DVD, the ''Ask That Guy'' segment is not so much an ATG episode but more like Doug slamming those who thought certain producers shouldn't have been included.
** Rob Walker is usually a calm guy who is more than willing to admit if a Critic episode didn't come out great, but go too far with insulting Doug and he'll switch to big brother smash mode.
** WebVideo/TheNostalgiaChick: Mr. Ellis (Lindsay's father) didn't exactly take kindly to fanbrats who thought her abuse of Nella was real. The full quote is on her page.
** Whether you're a [[WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall bad comic]] or [[WebVideo/TheSpoonyExperiment a bad game]], do ''not'' mistreat young children unless you want a very angry reviewer raging at you.
** WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic goes on a sickened CharacterFilibuster when children are hurt in a film he's reviewing. Seeing as the Critic (not Doug) was apparently abused himself as a child, it's quite understandable.
** Even when it doesn't make sense (Ask That Guy for instance), Doug has made each and every one of his main characters a defender of kids. Donnie from WebVideo/DemoReel still had sympathy for a little horror who'd abused him when she was getting yelled at by her father.
** ''WebVideo/WhatTheFuckIsWrongWithYou'': Nash does ''not'' take kindly to his friends being slandered or otherwise insulted.
* Iaus Innskeep in ''Podcast/DarkDice'' is a retired assassin who stabs and struggles his way through unspeakable horrors in order to rescue his son. When father and son finally reunite, Iaus leaps over a bottomless chasm to stand between his son and a spine devil, executing his most cinematic and brutal attacks of the adventure in order to keep his boy safe.
* ''WebVideo/Dimension20:'' In ''A Crown of Candy'', this is ''part of Amethar's character build:'' if he rolls lucky, his magical weapon will instantly kill anyone who has slain a member of his family.
* Let's just say that [=YouTuber=] Creator/HunterAvallone does ''not'' take kindly to people who go after his daughter, Rose.
** On his social media, he dropped a PrecisionFStrike on someone who tried to convince him that it's bad to have gay/bisexual daughter.
--> '''Hunter:''' Your sexuality doesn't define you as a person. If my daughter turns out to be gay, that will never stop me from loving and respecting her. [[{{Bowdlerization}} (bleep)]] you for thinking otherwise.
** He also got very angry when another [=YouTuber=] went after Rose (as well as his fiance, Carissa) after Hunter made a video critiquing activists using veganism to push their agenda.
* Jessi Slaughter's [[MemeticMutation "You Dun Goofed"]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFJrSnxyeNU dad]]. He wouldn't hesitate to backtrack {{Troll}}s' messages and report them to the cyber-police should they harass Jessi or screw around with their computer. In short, come near his daughter, and consequences will never be the same!
