[[MemeticMutation Memes happen.]] Whether it's a catchphrase that [[TheCatchPhraseCatchesOn catches on]], an [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments intentionally]] or [[{{Narm}} unintentionally]] funny moment, or an unfortunate coincidence, these things spread throughout the Internet like a virus. Sometimes crew members catch on and reference them.

It can be anything--a line at a convention, a Platform/YouTube video, even a piece of supplementary material. To qualify for this trope, it just has to be outside the show.

Often, this takes the form of a "lesser" worker (as in, not the creator or showrunner himself) referencing it, as trying to get it put into the script could potentially cause an uproar. Also, a lot of memes are [[OutOfCharacter OOC]], [[DoubleEntendre risqué]], or just plain [[MoodWhiplash random]], which wouldn't fit at all in {{canon}}. The ExpandedUniverse gets more leeway in this department.

A SisterTrope to AscendedMeme, which is when the show itself references the meme. See ApprovalOfGod if they enthusiastically support the meme, not just know of its existence.

[[folder:Anime and Manga]]
* Creator/WayneGrayson, voice of Joey in ''Anime/YuGiOh'', said [[WebVideo/YuGiOhTheAbridgedSeries "Brooklyn Rage!"]] several times at a 2008 convention. He referred to it as "his favorite line" even though "It's not even a line my character says, but I've been saying it all weekend".
** Also, in regard to ''Anime/YuGiOh5Ds'': [[http://twitpic.com/34lcdk Card Games on Motorcycles.]]
** Creator/DanGreen once read a dialogue between Yami Yugi and Yugi from the Abridged Series. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mhQpPpAsWs It has to be seen to be believed.]]
* Creator/ChristopherSabat frequently acknowledges the [[Franchise/DragonBall "OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAND!!!!"]] meme, though he does find it odd that people ask him to say it when it was a line from the [[Creator/BrianDrummond older dub]] that he had no involvement in.
** He intentionally trolls anyone who asks him to say it by stringing them along in the conversation until they figure out that they're being trolled.
** In the censored TV version of ''Anime/DragonBallZKai'', his "Over 8,000!" line[[note]]Which is what Vegeta actually said in the Japanese version in the first place.[[/note]] from the DVD release is [[AscendedMeme changed to 9,000]], complete with the hammy delivery.
* The Funimation [[https://www.funimation.com/blog/2014/11/11/free-eternal-summer-cast-announcement-nagisa/ announcement of Nagisa's VA]] for the English dub of ''Anime/{{Free}}'' referred to him as "the cute, hilarious, '''definitely-not-a-thug''' Nagisa Hazuki", referencing ''WebVideo/FiftyPercentOff'''s version of the character.
* ''Manga/AttackOnTitan'': The parody ''Spoof on Titan'', made by Hajime Isayama himself, pokes fun at some of the fandom's memes and shipping pairs.
* ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'' is (in)famous for its dramatic, stylish poses, and the fan tendency to recreate them in real life. Not only has the author/artist, Creator/HirohikoAraki, done it himself (see [[http://www.ohtabooks.com/quickjapan/blog/images/arakihirohiko.jpg here]]), but [[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/jojos-pose the posing made it into an ad for one of the video game adaptations!]]
* In Japan a meme surfaced in 2017 that briefly crossed ''Manga/DemonSlayerKimetsuNoYaiba'' and ''Manga/ThePromisedNeverland'' over, [[https://66.media.tumblr.com/1bd4c4f9e050beba63b905553a368b48/tumblr_pk8atrZajj1vv0rdg_400.jpg an image edit]] of Zenitsu, a ''Demon Slayer'' character, being scared witless of Sister Krone, a ''Promised Neverland'' character, made its rounds in Japanese imageboards, to the point Zenitsu somehow was voted the 29th most popular character in ''The Promised Neverland'' for its first official poll, while Sister Krone was voted the 59th most popular character in ''Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba'' for its first official poll. Going even further the meme was in fact recognized by Shueisha itself in 2019, as [[https://soranews24.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2019/05/mm-15.png they made a gigantic mural]] with hundreds of Magazine/ShonenJump characters being all over a school building, Zenitsu and Krone were paired together alone, creating the same effect of Zenitsu being scared of Krone as she looms behind him.
* ''Manga/TheDemonGirlNextDoor'' meme "It's all Shamiko's fault" comes from a fanart, yet it became trending in 2019, to the point of being named number 1 in Platform/NicoNicoDouga's top 100 memes of the year. Nico Nico presented a trophy to Izumo Ito, the creator of this series, and Ito responded with [[https://safebooru.donmai.us/posts/3723573 art]] of a puzzled (because they didn't say that in canon) Yuko and Momo receiving the trophy.
* The official ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' Twitter account tweeted "Porygon did nothing wrong." in reference to fans who demanded justice for Porygon after it was banned from appearing in ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'' because the episode [[Recap/PokemonS1E38ElectricSoldierPorygon "Electric Soldier Porygon"]] caused seizures, even though the seizures were actually caused by Pikachu blowing up missiles. The tweet was later deleted, presumably because it could be seen as insensitive.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animation]]
* In the DVDCommentary of ''WesternAnimation/TurningRed'', director Domee Shi acknowledges that Riley's dad from ''WesternAnimation/InsideOut'' is memed and wonders if Mei's dad, Jin, will be as well which she wants.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Film -- Live-Action]]
* ''Film/TheBatman2022'': The casting of Creator/RobertPattinson as Bruce led to widespread jokes that his ''Film/{{Twilight}}'' co-star and ex-girlfriend Creator/KristenStewart would be playing the Joker. Stewart was asked about it by ''[[https://variety.com/2021/film/news/kristen-stewart-joker-robert-pattinson-batman-1235093469/ Variety]]'' and replied the Joker was a stretch but suggested she'd be willing to play another member of "the Pattman's" RoguesGallery.
* Franchise/DCExtendedUniverse:
** Creator/HenryCavill's mustache which he grew for ''Film/MissionImpossibleFallout'' (and was contractually obligated to not shave) had become the ''de facto'' symbol for the [[TroubledProduction behind-the-scenes problems]] that plagued [[Film/JusticeLeague2017 the 2017 theatrical cut]] of the ''Justice League'' movie. None of this ended up bothering Cavill as during the period ''Justice League'' and ''Fallout'' were set to release, Cavill's social media seemed to double as a repository for jokes about the mustache by the man himself. When he finally shaved it off, he jokingly [[InMemoriam made a memorial montage]] that included an infamous shot of [[SpecialEffectsFailure the dodgy CGI]] used to cover his facial hair and the UnintentionalUncannyValley results.
** Doubling as a subverted AscendedMeme, Creator/JaredLeto apparently improvised a line to include "We live in a society" in ''Film/ZackSnydersJusticeLeague'', but it was ultimately not included in the final version, only in [[MissingTrailerScene the trailer]]. Leto quote retweeting the trailer on Twitter with the meme verbatim pretty much confirms that he knew exactly what he was doing.
* Jared Leto would also give a nod to the ironic fandom of ''Film/{{Morbius|2022}}'' with [[https://twitter.com/JaredLeto/status/1532849263809396736 "It's Morbin' Time".]]
* ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings'': It took them eight years to catch on, but Creator/PeterJackson actually got Creator/OrlandoBloom to sing his famous VoiceClipSong [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NGguk8VXYc "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!"]] on the set of ''Film/TheHobbit''.
* Thanks to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDHCLjuOzXY a particularly popular mashup]] of [[Manga/AttackOnTitan "Guren no Yumiya"]] with a dance number from a Bollywood movie starring screen idol NTR Jr., the Japanese release of a new Bollywood movie with the same lead actor actually promotes him as the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ampehgla0Y Shingeki no Indian.]]
* To promote their airing of ''Film/{{Downfall}}'', Creator/{{SBS}} made a WebVideo/HitlerRants video.
* Creator/GeorgeLucas, creator of ''Franchise/StarWars'' and namesake of the notorious GeorgeLucasAlteredVersion, sometimes wears a t-shirt reading "Han Shot First", a reference to one of its most hated changes that became a meme within the fandom.
** In ''Film/TheForceAwakens'', a tool is referred to as a "Harris wrench", named for Lucasfilm art director Mark Harris according to a tweet by fellow Lucasfilm artist Phil Szostak. When asked by a fan what the wrench was named for in-universe, Szostak [[https://twitter.com/PhilSzostak/status/1564999016198180864 responded]] "Harris Shitto, Glup’s inventor cousin, of course.", referencing the "Glup Shitto" meme that parodies ''Franchise/StarWars''' penchant for following naming tropes like WordOName and AerithAndBob.
* ''Franchise/JurassicPark'': Phil Tippet is fully aware of the meme as a "Dinosaur Supervisor" and getting backlash for having dinosaurs escape, especially the raptors in the kitchen. He ran with it, and posted "I have one job" on his Platform/{{Facebook}} account involving ''Film/JurassicWorld''.
* Creator/BenAffleck [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wiCgtMm-go learned]] to not be silent while making interviews with Creator/HenryCavill, or otherwise people will [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtfoRESVir0 play]] a Music/SimonAndGarfunkel song over it. Later in the same interview, when asked what fans on the street say to him: "I hear a lot of, uh, that [[Film/JayAndSilentBobStrikeBack I was the bomb in]] ''Literature/{{Phantoms}}'', [[Film/JayAndSilentBobStrikeBack yo]]."
* Creator/MarkRuffalo [[https://twitter.com/MarkRuffalo/status/917839056972730368 posted]] this [[https://pics.me.me/thor-ragnarok-2017-cant-wait-thorragnarok-hulk-thor-26332096.png meme]] of ''Film/ThorRagnarok'' to promote his appearance on ''Series/JimmyKimmelLive''.
* Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse:
** A meme started based on an ''Film/AvengersEndgame'' theory that Ant-Man would defeat Thanos by shrinking, [[AssShove going inside Thanos' butt]], and [[{{Squick}} expanding again]]. Creator/JoshBrolin, Thanos' actor, responded by [[https://www.instagram.com/p/BvkbvZSAFq9 posting a clip of himself on a toilet, attempting to excrete Ant-Man]].
** Creator/RobertDowneyJr regularly reposts MCU memes, specifically those featuring Iron Man, on his social media.
** ''Film/SpiderManNoWayHome'''s marketing team released an image of its three live-action Peter Parker actors (Creator/TomHolland, Creator/AndrewGarfield, and Creator/TobeyMaguire) recreating the [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/508cd06a_dd09_47c4_bbea_d21bae30ff68.jpeg Spider-Man pointing meme]] by posing similarly to it while in costume.
* ''Film/MuppetsMostWanted'':
** As seen in "A Very Pentatonix Christmas", Constantine is aware of his status in the "Evil Kermit" meme, and he's not a fan of that being what he's famous for, compared to Kermit's fame as a pop culture icon.
** Kermit himself has commented on Twitter that he doesn't have a problem with the meme "which I guess shows that I'm not Evil Kermit".
* ''Film/SpaceJamANewLegacy'' had a scene referencing the "Big Chungus" meme, with Bugs briefly morphing into Elmer Fudd.
* ''Film/SpiderManTrilogy'': Creator/TobeyMaguire in a [[https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/ztqlgb/hi_im_tobey_maguire_actorexecutive_producer_of/j1eqiz3/ reddit AMA]] acknowledged the “Bully Maguire” meme and said he’s “fairly neutral” about it.
* The "Ultra Instinct [[Franchise/ScoobyDoo Shaggy]]" meme gets a nod in the LogoJoke for ''WesternAnimation/MortalKombatLegendsBattleOfTheRealms'', as a glowing Shaggy grabs Scorpion into the WB shield.
* Given ''Film/DieHard'' is described as "the best Christmas movie" for its AnAssKickingChristmas setting, an increasing number of TV channels airs it during the December holidays.
* A common joke among fans of ''Film/TheWhale'' is to claim that it only has one frame, due to [[https://static01.nyt.com/images/2022/12/09/multimedia/08whale1-1-fefc/08whale1-1-fefc-superJumbo.jpg one particular frame]] being used by nearly every single news article about it and even the film's own poster. It would end up being acknowledged by its distributor Creator/{{A24}} in [[https://twitter.com/A24/status/1648713127540805632?cxt=HHwWgMC--dX2s-EtAAAA a tweet]] responding to someone complaining about ''Film/KillersOfTheFlowerMoon''[[note]]which only had [[https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BZmMyMDc4NWMtZmUzNC00ZjczLWE1ZmYtYWQ3ZTk4ODBmYzE2XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMTkxNjUyNQ@@._V1_FMjpg_UX1280_.jpg one released still]] for the better part of two years until two other frames were released during [=CinemaCon=] 2023[[/note]] having a similar problem.
** On the subject of ''Killers of the Flower Moon'', Creator/AppleTVPlus released a new still of it a few weeks before release, which was just [[https://twitter.com/DiscussingFilm/status/1711411977858248994 the exact same scene at a different angle]], seemingly just to troll fans.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* The [=#BlackHogwarts=] hashtag, which documents the events in ''Franchise/HarryPotter'' from an African-American perspective, [[https://twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/951598325417078784 is acknowledged]] by Creator/JKRowling herself a mere few days after it started trending.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* "Bear" Grylls of ''Series/ManVsWild'' has occasionally made jokes about reacting to events with "better drink my own piss" [[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/bear-grylls-better-drink-my-own-piss just like the meme parodying this trait of his]].
* When Creator/ElizabethBerkley, best known as Jessie Spano on ''Series/SavedByTheBell'', appeared on ''Series/DancingWithTheStars'', she and her partner Val had some fun before they had to do a jive routine by recreating one of the most iconic (and infamous) memetic moments from the series: Jessie's caffeine-pill fueled breakdown while singing "I'M SO EXCITED!" The Internet rejoiced.
** Similarly, Alfonso Ribeiro's jazz routine to "It's Not Unusual" in Season 19 included [[Series/TheFreshPrinceOfBelAir the Carlton Dance]]. Even the song choice counted, as Carlton's love of Music/TomJones was a RunningGag on the show, to the point where Jones appeared AsHimself as Carlton's guardian angel in one episode.
* Creator/OprahWinfrey famously gave away cars to everyone in her audience in a 2004 episode of [[Series/TheOprahWinfreyShow her show]]. Her screams--particularly "YOU GET A CAR!"--quickly reached meme status. Nine years later, when Oprah appeared on ''Series/JimmyKimmelLive'', she was in the middle of talking about her new film ''Film/TheButler'' when she suddenly stopped the interview and declared "I just got that feeling again." She called a random woman from the audience down to the set and abruptly screamed "YOU GET A CAR!," giving her the keys to a brand-new Ford Fusion that was outside. The whole thing was played as a joke, with Oprah describing her "problem" of giving away new cars as a compulsion that she tries to keep under control--in this case, she apparently skipped lunch, which made her condition flare up.
* James May remarked in an interview with motoring [=YouTuber=] Jimmy Broadbent that he was aware of the "Bottom Gear" meme and had actually watched the video himself.
* When ''Series/MasterChef'' presenter Gregg Wallace appeared on short-lived British TV show ''The Magicians'' (not [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Series/TheMagicians2016 that one]]), he went out of his way to reference the memetic [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfeyUGZt8nk MasterChef Synesthesia]] tune, loudly proclaiming his love for the "buttery biscuit bass".
* In ''Series/TheSopranos'', a second-season episode has Livia Soprano watching Emeril Lagasse's cooking show, ''Emeril Live'', on television, and complaining that he doesn't wash his hands at all before preparing food. Due to the popularity of the series and fan amusement with this comment, Emeril himself would make a point of washing his hands before making anything afterwards, and turned the comment into a RunningGag about how he hoped "the woman from ''Sopranos'' doesn't bug me."
* In the UK comedy ''Wasted'', ChronicallyKilledActor Creator/SeanBean appears as the spirit guide of one of the protagonists, frantically AdamWesting the whole time, while dressed as Ned Stark from ''Series/GameOfThrones''. The first season ends with him delivering the line "One does not simply kill Sean Bean".
* After the ''Series/LazyTown'' song "We Are Number One" became the subject of a number of parodies (usually titled "We Are Number One but [description of the changes]"), the official [=YouTube=] channel went ahead with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uN-UUeh-yA "We Are Number One but it's the original and it's 1 hour long...."]]
** In addition, the original actors performed a live version of "We Are Number One" and also released a video of all the individual components making up the song. All of this was done to keep the memes flowing.
** One of the unlikelier mashups from the show was a combination of "Cooking by the Book" and the Music/LilJon song "A Little Bigger." Chloe Lang, the second actress for Stephanie on the show, later [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QihpB_3g4H0 recreated the mashup]] on [=TikTok=] for a laugh.
* People getting disturbed by the world, specially technology-related news, often inspires "This is so ''Series/BlackMirror''" responses. Twice, it warranted the show to respond, [[https://twitter.com/charltonbrooker/status/645720372109799424?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.huffingtonpost.com%2Fentry%2Fpiggate-david-cameron-charlie-brooker_us_5600025fe4b0fde8b0cedb05 once]] [[https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/shortcuts/2015/sep/21/pigs-prime-minister-black-mirror-ashcroft-allegation-charlie-brooker when]] LifeImitatesArt, and [[https://twitter.com/blackmirror/status/796192757836554240 another]] when the 2016 election led the phrase to be used too many times.
* During the run of ''Series/KamenRiderExAid'', the web-exclusive ''Poppy Pipopapo's Room'' video series had an episode where Poppy and Emu try some gummies and scream "JUICY!", parodying the "Juicy Kid" from the ''Franchise/KamenRider''-branded gummy advertisements.
* The ''Series/DoctorWho'' Twitch marathon spawned a meme from Ian Chesterton's excited reaction to returning home to "London 1965!"
** As a result, the official ''Doctor Who'' [=YouTube=] channel changed the title of the clip where this happens to "London 1965".
** The 2018 ''Magazine/DoctorWhoMagazine'' Christmas Quiz, had a section of questions about "[[Recap/DoctorWhoS2E8TheChase The Chase]]", in reference to Bradley Walsh hosting ''Series/{{The Chase|GameShow}}''. The first one is when and where Ian and Barbara arrive, and the answer is given in the following issue as "London, 1965!"
* Once a screencap out of ''Series/TheRealHousewives of Beverly Hills'' became half the meme known as "Woman screaming at cat", said woman, Taylor Armstrong, [[https://www.oprahmag.com/entertainment/a29739536/cat-meme-taylor-armstrong-explained/ became a fan of said meme]] ([[https://thetab.com/uk/2019/11/11/woman-yelling-at-cat-meme-131352 even if the image was originally her having a heated argument related to possible domestic abuse]], she has no problem seeing it twisted into a joke).
* Creator/AlexTrebek appeared AsHimself in the 1990 ''Series/{{Cheers}}'' episode "What is... Cliff Clavin", [[GameShowAppearance in which Cliff goes on]] ''Series/{{Jeopardy}}'', but blows it all in "Final Jeopardy!" by writing "Who are three people who have never been in my kitchen?" as his answer to a tough clue (having wagered everything, too, despite having a runaway lead). In the 1990 College Tournament, when the eventual tournament winner Michael Thayer wrote "Who is someone I have never met?" in "Final Jeopardy!", Alex quipped, "Michael, looks like you were watching that episode of ''Cheers''!". In the years that followed, Alex would warn players not to "[[PersonAsVerb pull a Cliff Clavin]]" in "Final Jeopardy!", and Cliff's answer also serves as a stock answer for tough clues among players.
* ''Series/SexLife'': The announcement for Season 2 directly mentioned how many people specifically watched the scene in episode 3 where Brad's MaleFrontalNudity happens. They specify that 20 million people watched that scene, and they even put a few reaction clips in the announcement.
* People trying to guess who Sauron is in ''Series/TheLordOfTheRingsTheRingsOfPower'', spawned a lot of memes, [[https://twitter.com/PrimeVideo/status/1572407161002819585?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1572407161002819585%7Ctwgr%5E838b82fee06a7a7409bad3113ceb8e04d684b05f%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fstartefacts.com%2Fnews%2Famazon-trolls-fans-with-sauron-guessing-game-related-meme which were acknowledged on Twitter by both the official accounts of the show and Prime Video.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Music]]
* Music/RickAstley himself JustForFun/{{Rickroll}}ed the UsefulNotes/MacysThanksgivingDayParade, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL-hNMJvcyI in what has become one of the parade's most memorable moments in its almost 90-year history.]]
* Music/RebeccaBlack, best known for her infamously SoBadItsGood 2011 viral song "Music/{{Friday}}", starred in the music video for Music/KatyPerry's "Last '''Friday''' Night (T.G.I.F.)."
* Music/TwistedSister is well-known for its hit "We're Not Gonna Take It". In Latin America, a popular and memetic way to sing the song is by mispronouncing it as ''"Huevos con aceite (y limón)"''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35PocLHx534 For a tour around Chile in 2013]], Dee Snider not only encouraged the public to shout the joke lyrics, but even added that the only thing it was missing was "Twisted fuckin' Sister". This is proceeded by both the band and the public playing out the song that way!
* The official account of ''Series/SchittsCreek'' has tweeted out memes featuring the line "You're My Mariah Carey." Music/MariahCarey has retweeted these memes and endorsed the show, to the intense delight of show ShowRunner Creator/DanLevy.
* ''{{Music/Vicetone}}'' made a tutorial on the sound used to make their hit song "Astronomia" (which went viral due to syncing very well with [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancing_Pallbearers a memetic video of Ghanaian coffin bearers]]), with continuously interrupting references to the video [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QURCstMlEaE throughout the tutorial]].
* Music/{{Sabaton}} frontman Joakim Brodén has a habit of [[MilkingTheGiantCow beating on his right knee during performances]], which has become a [[MemeticMutation meme]] in the band's fandom. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9QVQ9LsUHQ According to bassist Pär Sundström]], Joakim has occasionally come out of shows with bruises.
* Percival, the Polish folk band whose songs were used on ''VideoGame/TheWitcher3WildHunt'' acknowledged the Mondegreen from "...Steel for Humans", offering [[https://percival.pl/produkt/naklejka-banana-tiger/?v=9b7d173b068d "Banana Tiger" merchandise]] like stickers and mugs.
* Music/OliverTree:
** Oliver is fully aware that people like comparing him to Vector from ''WesternAnimation/DespicableMe1'', due to their shared bowl cuts and glasses. He occasionally posts memes about the comparison to his social media accounts, for example [[https://www.twitter.com/olivertree/status/1234194935500292096 this tweet]] of Vector dancing to his song "Alien Boy", joking that he performed it at Ride/UniversalStudios.
** He also knows about his song "Life Goes On" being a meme in the Latin American internet community, to which he directly responded by [[https://www.instagram.com/p/CUYpIfgJW9v/ posting a clip]] from the song's music video with Spanish subtitles and claiming he was moving to Latin America.
* In 2021, Music/{{Eminem}} announced he would open up a restaurant, and that it would be named -- what else? -- "Mom's Sphagetti".
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Professional Wrestling]]
* Late 2014 saw a meme on Vine featuring Wrestling/RandyOrton using his signature RKO finishing move on people who were falling or in accidents, making it appear as if Orton had caused them to fall. Wrestling/{{WWE}} eventually acknowledged it on their front page, and even posted a few vines of their own.
* Botchamania created "The Cornette Face", a screenshot of Wrestling/JimCornette with his mouth agape, looking like he just saw the most ridiculous thing he's ever seen. Cornette loved the concept so much that he enthusiastically agreed to the usage and even had merchandise made with the face on it (and proudly wears the t-shirt regularly).
* For a while, when the WWE has fired or released a wrestler from their contract, the announcements almost always ended with the phrase "We wish him/her the best in all his/her future endeavors." The term "future endeavored" became a meme among the SmartMark crowd as a means of talking about someone being fired. In TheNewTens, WWE actually started selling shirts with "Future Endeavored" on them.
** For a short time, they also started selling shirts with other common smart mark lingo, such as "I'm So Over," "I Get Heat," etc. However, the shirts quickly fizzled out of production.
* Wrestling/JohnCena has publicly acknowledged the meme surrounding him (and how annoying it is), and teamed up with Cricket Wireless to [[AscendedMeme perform his own take on it]].
** Another meme of his is him being invisible due to his "You Can't See Me!" catchphrase. WWE would acknowledge this on a September 2023 edition of RAW where Wrestling/TheMiz decides to talk smack with John...when really it's him talking to air as if he was invisible.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Video Games]]
* Garland's ''VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy'' voice actor, Christopher Sabat, said [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09u_s5MYnDA "I, Garland, will knock you all down!"]] on request at Another Anime Convention.
* At Comic-Con 2011, a panel featuring the voice directors for ''[[VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3 Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3]]'' had Creator/TaliesinJaffe (the English VA for Blanka and Adon in ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIV'') belting out [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xG2vGg8ygc&t=13m54s "Would anybody like... SOME POUND CAKE?!"]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xG2vGg8ygc&t=12m11s "JAGUAR SLEEPOVER!"]] The former is a meme originating from one of Creator/{{Egoraptor}}'s sketches from the ''[[http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/495979 Street Fighter Collab]]'' on Platform/{{Newgrounds}} and the latter is an oft-quoted Mondegreen of Adon's Jaguar Revolver Ultra in ''IV''.
* ''VideoGame/MetalGear'':
** Creator/DavidHayter, English voice of Solid Snake, has been known to spend a lot of time saying "[[WebAnimation/AwesomeSeries OhmyGodhotnessIwannaBANGYOU]]" and "CRAB...BATTLE...", references to two popular ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid'' Flash parody shorts. (He also claimed that the voice over director on the games brought in ''VideoGame/MetalGear WebAnimation/{{Awesome|Series}}'' for the cast to watch together during the recording of ''VideoGame/{{Metal Gear Solid 4|GunsOfThePatriots}}''.)
** Hayter has also [[MemeRoleReprise recited]] the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixWybGQnPHQ "Colonel, I'm trying to sneak around, but I'm dummy thicc"]] meme.
** Both Raiden's and Senator Armstrong's voice actors have [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr2lG__MD5I recorded themselves]] re-enacting their characters' "Nice argument, Senator! Why don't you back it up with a source?" "My source is that I made it the fuck up!" exchange from ''[[Webvideo/{{Max0r}} "An Incorrect Summary of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance"]]''.
* Creator/BioWare sells "Enchantment!" and "Morrigan Disapproves" t-shirts, based on popular phrases from ''Franchise/DragonAge'', as well as "UsefulNotes/IsaacNewton is the deadliest sonofabitch in space!" and "favorite store on the Citadel" memes from ''Franchise/MassEffect''. For a while, they also sold a t-shirt of ''Franchise/MassEffect''[='=]s "I should go."
** Speaking of Mass Effect, Creator/MarkMeer is well aware of the infamous "[[WebAnimation/GamerPoop We'll bang, OK?]]" meme, that [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYT66ALUUss he said the line itself for some fans.]]
* The ''VideoGame/{{Touhou}}'' character Hong Meiling. No-one could decide what to call her (she's Chinese, yet her name in Chinese characters could very well be a Japanese name), so everyone decided to call her China. It became a DiscreditedMeme... until ZUN said that he also calls her China. Poor Meiling...
* ''VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim'': On Xbox 360, you can get an "Arrow in the Knee" accessory for your Avatar.
** Additionally, at E3 2018, Todd Howard jokingly announced [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnEW6dX_BmU a very special edition]] of ''Skyrim'', as a reference to the meme that it gets released on pretty much every system.
*** No joke. If you have an Echo, you ''[[https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B07D6STSX8/ref=nosim/cheapassgam08-20 actually can play it.]]''
* Nintendo has a history of doing this at their [[UsefulNotes/ElectronicEntertainmentExpo E3]] shows:
** At E3 2012, Creator/{{Nintendo}}[='=]s Reggie Fils-Aime came out and said "Yes, [[VideoGame/WiiFit my body was ready.]]"
** In a Nintendo Direct after E3 2012, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata held a bunch of bananas for a few seconds, for seemingly no reason. This quickly turned into a meme, and the very next E3 Nintendo posted a picture of Iwata holding bananas with the caption "Bananas @ E3" on Facebook.
** In Nintendo's show for E3 2014, when talking about the success of ''VideoGame/MarioKart8'', they edited in the memetic "Luigi Death Stare," wherein Luigi gives off a DeathGlare when he passes an opponent. Keep in mind this meme was ''less than a week old'' when they did this.
** Nintendo's show for E3 2015 was a fountain of this, all with Iwata, Miyamoto, and Fils-amie as muppets. Of course, there was Reggie's "My (puppet) body is ready" and a brief scene where puppet Iwata stares at a bunch of bananas for several seconds. Iwata also acknowledged his CharacterTic a few times, first when his puppet self was first revealed ("I will go ''directly'' to the stage"), and another brief scene where he does it repeatedly for no apparent reason, then somehow knocks puppet-Reggie over by directing the gesture at him.
*** A video promoting the Mii Fighters in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros for UsefulNotes/Nintendo3DS[=/=]UsefulNotes/WiiU'' showed Iwata using the gesture as an attack (resembling MakeMeWannaShout) during his battle with Reggie.
** E3 2016 saw the release of a new wave of ''[[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario]]'' Toys/{{amiibo}} being released, including EnsembleDarkhorse Waluigi. Due to the semi-facetious demand for him to be made into an amiibo, Nintendo's official Platform/{{Tumblr}} [[http://nintendo.tumblr.com/post/145972607094/all-your-dreams-are-coming-true announced it with a post reading "All your dreams are coming true!"]] (Note that they don't make any mention of any of the other characters, showing how strong the meme had become.)
** During the 2017 Nintendo World Championships, though not at E3, one announcer noted in the ''VideoGame/MarioParty2'' round that [[MemeticBadass Luigi]] [[WinsByDoingAbsolutelyNothing couldn't win just by doing nothing]].
* Creator/CharlesMartinet said [[Webcomic/BrawlInTheFamily "Too bad. Waluigi time!"]] in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcdTwhcO-B8 Waluigi's voice on request]] [[note]][[BeamMeUpScotty Waluigi never said this in the games]], although he says "Waluigi time!" in ''VideoGame/MarioKartDoubleDash''[[/note]].
* Creator/BlizzardEntertainment has been using the phrase [[ZergRush "the rush begins"]] (changed to "has begun" after release day) in some of the advertising for ''VideoGame/StarCraftIIHeartOfTheSwarm''.
* The last 24 hours of the ''VideoGame/StarCitizen'' crowdfunding campaign were streamed from lent office space in Austin, TX. For about two hours, the team went out for dinner and left an IKEA table lamp with a paper sign taped to it perched in front of a camera as a makeshift, "We'll be right back" sign. The team returned to find that, in their absence, the silly, sleep-deprived fan community had begun building all sorts of weird lore around the lamp, jokingly deifying it, naming squadrons or guilds for it, giving it an imagined personality, addressing direct questions to it in the chat threads, and so forth. Some members of the development team joined in on the joke, and at least for the foreseeable future, the Lamp will continue to make appearances in some of the development team webcasts.
* ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'':
** Creator/MikePollock, voice actor of Dr. Eggman, was once asked to say "Snooping as usual, I see!"[[note]]from ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog'', which came ''long'' before Pollock began voicing Eggman; the original line became memetic because its [[AccentOnTheWrongSyllable odd inflection]] was exploited by video editors, who [[ManipulativeEditing clipped the quote]] in order to make him say something which sounds a bit like "penis"[[/note]] in his Eggman voice. Once he learned [[YouTubePoop why]] he was given the request, [[WhyFandomCantHaveNiceThings he stated that he would never take requests from fans again]]. While he has said the line in official media, such as an episode of ''WesternAnimation/SonicBoom'', he's made it clear that he simply reads the lines he's given. He seems to have lightened up on his "no requests" policy, as he did [[https://twitter.com/itsamike/status/913469810759041024 read an excerpt]] from the ''ComicBook/SonicBoom'' comic at a fan's request, though he appended it with "don't expect me to become a Requests Machine".
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k78AsNVlvdU Pollock directly acknowledged]] the "I've come to make an announcement" skit from ''Webvideo/RealTimeFandub'', even saying that line in his Eggman voice... and immediately going on to tell fans to stop asking him to recite the full speech, as he knows that its profane nature would put his career at risk. He later acknowledged the meme [[https://soundcloud.com/itsamike/ive-come-to-make-an-onnouncement in a more lighthearted way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.]]
** In June 2015, [[PromotedFanboy long-time fan]] Aaron Webber a.k.a. [=RubyEclipse=] became the PR representative of the franchise, and [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/with_replies the series']] [[Blog/SonicTheHedgehogTwitter official Twitter]] took this into truly outrageous heights. It's referenced [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/608763896040726528 the Tails Doll]] [[note]]a memetically strange and creepy doppelganger of Tails from ''VideoGame/SonicR''[[/note]], [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/608824863629975552 "IT'S NO USE!"]] [[note]]the most recurrent piece of Silver's BossBanter from ''[[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006 Sonic '06]]''[[/note]], [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/609085969942376449 "original character do not steal"]] [[note]]a mockery of the fandom's tendency to create [=OCs=] who are often [[CopyCatSue blatant recolors with exaggerated powers]], as popularized by ''Webcomic/BoxerHockey'' and ''WebAnimation/SonicShorts''[[/note]], [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/608823635499958272 "Strange, isn't it?"]] [[note]]Sonic's line to Metal Sonic during their final battle in ''Anime/SonicTheHedgehogTheMovie''[[/note]], [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/608359346863542273 the Barrel of Doom]] [[note]]a legendary instance of GuideDangIt from Carnival Night Zone Act 2 of ''[[VideoGame/Sonic3AndKnuckles Sonic 3]]''[[/note]], [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/608722820739293185 "Bounce Pad!"]] [[note]]one of the more notable examples of FillingTheSilence from ''[[VideoGame/SonicBoom Rise of Lyric]]'', as seen below[[/note]], [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/608802671911444481 Knuckles' rap music]] [[note]]Knuckles' {{Leitmotif}} in the ''[[VideoGame/SonicAdventure Adventure]]'' [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure2 duology]], as well as all his stage music in ''Adventure 2'', falls under the genres of rap and jazzhop and is often considered to be SoBadItsGood[[/note]], [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/608343347623796736 Sonic 06's load times]] [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/608822114368544769 and infamous kiss scene]] [[note]]among its many grievances, ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006'' is full of LoadsAndLoadsOfLoading and features [[InterspeciesRomance a kiss between Sonic and a human woman]][[/note]], [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/608354712149237760 both versions]] [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/609115871747833856 of "Sanic"]] [[note]]a series of fan art and animations involving [[StylisticSuck a crudely drawn, poorly illustrated version of the Blue Blur whose name is deliberately misspelled]], often accompanied by the '''GOTTA GO FAST''' meme started by ''Anime/SonicX''[[/note]], ''[[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/820034360271175680 Sonic.exe]]'' [[note]][[Fanfic/SonicExe a well-known]] ([[SoBadItsGood and oft-mocked]]) ''Sonic'' {{Creepypasta}}[[/note]], and [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/608718532529037312 even]] ''Webcomic/{{Sonichu}}'' – culminating in [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/608802671911444481 a contest]] devoted to the "[[VideoGame/Sonic3AndKnuckles & Knuckles]]" meme.
** Said Twitter account also has an annual "Twitter Takeover", where [[HostileShowTakeover Dr. Eggman takes over Sonic's Twitter]] and answers questions from fans. These have references quite a few memes:
*** In the 2016 one, when ''WebVideo/GameGrumps'' tweeted, Sonic and Eggman quoted Arin's infamous RageQuit during their ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006'' playthrough.
---->'''Sonic''': Whoa, Eggman, listen. Sometimes you gotta draw a line in the sand, man. You gotta ask yourself, "What am I willing to put up with today?"
---->'''Eggman''': Well, clearly not this.
*** The 2017 one, which featured Shadow, opened with Shadow introducing himself and mentioning that he's been searching for that fourth Chaos Emerald for some time now, referencing the "Where's that DAMN fourth Chaos Emerald?" meme from ''VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog''.
*** When the anime series ''Anime/KillLaKill'' premiered in 2013, the main character Ryuko Matoi received numerous comparisons to Shadow for being similarly red-and-black "edgy" character that share parts of their backstory. The comparisons ignited a few years later when ''VideoGame/SonicForces'' gave even more material to compare the two characters with, culminating in the 2017 Twitter Takeover, where Shadow [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/926617266564743168 revealed]] that his favorite anime is indeed "the one with the edgy girl and the scissor blade".
*** The Sonic fandom's notoriety for having a high output of...questionable fan art ended up getting referenced in an [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/1621571398589366272?cxt=HHwWgIDS7Y6m_YAtAAAA early 2023 post]], which showed that the characters apparently have both a [[TheSwearJar swear jar]] and a "Seeing Fan Art We Wish We Hadn't" jar, the latter of which is filled to the brim.
** The use of FillingTheSilence from ''VideoGame/SonicBoom: Rise of Lyric'' became a meme very quickly. Creator/RogerCraigSmith (the voice of Sonic) [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqrxL_nbbDA happily joined in on it]] during a charity livestream in which various ''Sonic'' games were played. [[note]]The best part is, he wasn't even playing ''Rise of Lyric''. Instead, he played City Escape, the first level of ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure2''.[[/note]]
--->''BOUNCE PAD!''
* "[[Creator/{{Nintendo}} Nintendo of Europe]] [[LetsPlay/{{Chuggaaconroy}} supports]] [[https://twitter.com/chuggaaconroy/status/317317910022455296 the No Coin Left Behind movement!]]"
--> '''LetsPlay/SlimKirby''': No coin left behind? [[ComicallyMissingThePoint Yet they forgot the star coin...]]
* Creator/FocusHomeInteractive, who produce ''VideoGame/SherlockHolmes'' video games, had Watson [[OffscreenTeleportation teleporting]] in ''VideoGame/SherlockHolmesVersusArseneLupin'' due to the developers being pressed for time, forcing them to not implement pathfinder A.I. for Watson, and Watson's mad teleportation skills were widely [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13YlEPwOfmk seen as creepy.]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc5x9tclNh0 In March, they produced a video based off of this small "Creepy Watson" meme.]]
* One of the songs in ''VideoGame/HatsuneMikuProjectDiva F'' is the song from the once-popular Nyan Cat meme, since the original, rather limited, vocals belonged to Hatsune Miku!
* Creator/CrypticStudios' James "Borticus" Randall, part of the dev team for ''VideoGame/StarTrekOnline'', voiced Captain James Kurland, C.O. of Deep Space 9, in the featured episode "The 2800". After complaints about Kurland's constant spamming of the line "KURLAND HERE" in "Boldly They Rode" [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teERVO8zY0c went memetic]], Borticus commented on the forums that it was "not my best work, I'm afraid" and even added it to his forum signature.
* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'':
** At Gamescom 2014, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EPAij3Nugg#t=28s Masuda says Hoenn Confirmed]] in his message to fans awaiting the upcoming ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire]]'' games.

** An American Valentine's Day card references the meme revolving around posting a Slowpoke when someone is late to notice something. The card has a Slowpoke on it and says "Happy New Year!" [[https://web.archive.org/web/20170122202503/https://www.pokemoncenter.com/slowpoke-valentines-relaxed-fit-crewneck-t-shirt-741-02396 They've made a shirt like this.]]
** The social media team [[https://www.facebook.com/Pokemon/photos/a.242732142515404/3094951293960127/?type=3&theater embraced the Slowpoke "late to the party" meme]] for a time in 2020.
** Many jokes exist about the move "Fly" and "Surf" and how the protagonist can apparently ride very small Pokémon. For the 20th anniversary of the series, [[https://www.pokemon.jp/special/moyadoga/hiden/ official art of the protagonists and their Pokémon using HM moves]] was made. A few feature them riding tiny Pokémon.
** When a new regional form of Wooper was revealed to be appearing in ''VideoGame/PokemonScarletAndViolet'', the official Pokémon account [[https://twitter.com/Pokemon/status/1554855868469952512 tweeted a picture of one]] simply captioned "This", refencing a meme that originated all the way back in ''VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver''.
* During the second day of the EUIC 2023, Wo-Chien ended up being the only Ruinous Legendary not in the top 12 most used Pokemon. The official Twitter account for Play Pokémon posted a picture of an empty chair at the tournament captioned "Wo-Chien Live Reaction", referencing the meme itself derived from the "Live Slug Reaction" meme.
* Nintendo UK's website once had an [[https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Wii/Wii-huge Error screen]] saying [[VideoGame/ZeldaIITheAdventureOfLink I AM ERROR]]. As of Sept. 2017, only the title bar/tab name says that, and it's a page where the visitor can make the screen "[[Franchise/StarFox do a barrel roll]]".
* The official ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' Facebook page indulges in this on occasion when uploading character card photos that give info such as their first appearance and Final Smash. Ike's for instance was uploaded with the caption: "For Fun? For Glory? No. For Friends," referencing a memetic victory phrase of Ike's from ''Brawl''. (It also references a meme to have an alternative to "For Fun" or "For Glory" modes -- like For Freedom.)
* [[VideoGame/FireEmblemThreeHouses Byleth]]'s [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc6k6kLCmqQ trailer]] for ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' pokes a little fun at the series's seeming propensity for adding "anime sword fighters" to the roster.
-->'''Sothis''': I see. Too many swordsmen, are there?
* One of Creator/MasahiroSakurai's screenshot posts for ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' shows a Mii wearing the [[VideoGame/{{Undertale}} Sans]] costume and Ness from ''VideoGame/{{EarthBound|1994}}'' together, which many have interpreted as a nod to ''WebVideo/GameTheory''[='=]s infamous joke video that Sans is an undead Ness.
* The Boxing Ring stage in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' has the fighters appear on the background screen with [[RedBaron special titles for them]]. The [[VideoGame/{{Splatoon}} Inklings]] get a nod to the memetic "You're a kid, you're a squid" commercial with their title being "Half-kid, half-squid".
* The reveal trailer for the [[VideoGameRemake 3DS remake]] of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask'' really played up the creepiness of Termina, and at one point the camera lingers over Link's Elegy of Emptiness statue (the face behind "WebVideo/BenDrowned") for longer than the other scenes.
* Link's catchphrase of "Well, excuse me, princess!" uttered in ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfZelda1989'' animated series is used by an NPC in a sidequest in ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1''. (Monolith Soft was the developer of that game, but Monolith is owned by Nintendo.) This line actually works, because the character on which this line is spoken to ''is actually a princess''.
* ''VideoGame/StreetFighterXMegaMan'' has a track called [[Memes/StreetFighter "Goes With Everything."]] Once the appropriate code is activated, [[EasterEgg all the music in the game is replaced with this one]]. This track is, as you might expect, [[VideoGame/StreetFighterII Guile's theme]].
* The VillainProtagonist of ''VideoGame/{{Hatred}}'' earned the FanNickname "Not Important" from the trailer, where he stated [[MemeticMutation "My name is not important."]] The creators themselves have taken to referring to him as Not Important as well.
* ''Franchise/{{Splatoon}}'':
** A ''VideoGame/Splatoon1'' update added a bit of stage announcement chatter for Callie and Marie that references the infamous "YOU'RE A KID YOU'RE A SQUID" meme.
** The Squid Research Laboratory Tumblr page has also acknowledged a number of in-jokes and memes that regularly cropped up on the player-made Website/{{Miiverse}} graffiti.
** In ''VideoGame/Splatoon2'' Marina references the "I wish squids were real" meme with "I wish humans were real". Note that [[spoiler:Marina does know humans are real as [[AfterTheEnd they're an extinct species]] whose fossils are ''everywhere'']], so it's clearly just a joke.
* The box art of ''Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call'' (the PAL version of ''VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiIIINocturne'') had, on the cover, the phrase "Featuring Dante from the ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry'' series." The line became massively popular, to the point where Atlus mentioned it twice in the buildup to ''VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiIVApocalypse'' -- once in a blog post about naming the game, and once in a joke video about the game's name.
** Capcom itself, the publisher/developer of ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry'', referenced the meme [[https://twitter.com/monsterhunter/status/989656356889083905 in a tweet]] when a ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry'' inspired {{crossover}} event went live in ''VideoGame/MonsterHunterWorld''.
** Another meme connected to ''Nocturne'' involves the FinalBoss' appearance as a disco ball. Sure enough, a late-game NPC in the HD Remaster calls said FinalBoss a "goddamn arrogant disco ball".
* Adam Croasdell [[https://twitter.com/ACroasdell/status/811648030881484801 acknowledges]] the memetic status of his character Ignis's line "I've come up with a new recipe!" from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXV''.
* Tabata himself even acknowledged the [[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/ffxv-car-driving "car driving" meme]] - he thought it was ActuallyPrettyFunny ''and'' even released high quality image templates for people to use.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm932Sqwf5E This video]] of ''VideoGame/{{Doom 2016}}'''s original soundtrack, uploaded by Bethesda themselves, includes a brief appearance by the "Doot Revenant."
** The game itself acknowledges the "[[ComicBook/{{Doom}} Rip and Tear]]" meme literally seconds into the opening.
* Many of the voice actors in ''VideoGame/{{Overwatch}}'' are known to reference and tease the {{Shipping}} of their characters.
* ''VideoGame/FireEmblemEchoesShadowsOfValentia'' has had a couple of the voice actors reference some of the fandom jokes.
** Gray's early line of "Shut up, Tobin" quickly became a meme due to its delivery. Creator/MaxMittelman, Gray's voice actor, has brought up the line at [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BCGVQJUcTc at least one con]].
** Creator/ChrisHackney, Boey's English VA, has acknowledged a number of Boey-related jokes on his Twitter. Most notable are the ones regarding his strange liking of flour and the infamous scream he makes in Act 4.
* In ''VideoGame/FireEmblemFates'', the fandom quickly latched onto tomatoes being Leo's TrademarkFavoriteFood. The above-linked video also features Creator/MaxMittelman (who is also the English voice of Leo) referencing all of the tomato jokes.
* An announcer pack for ''{{VideoGame/Dota 2}}'' has Gabe Newell, founder and CEO of Valve, calling out your killing sprees, and many lines in the pack have Newell acknowledging many memes and jokes about him and his company.
* The Director's Cut commentary for ''VideoGame/DeusExHumanRevolution'' has the staff acknowledging the memetic videos involving Adam Jensen, such as Safety Dance, Adam Jensen Walks Into A Bar, and Punch Punch Revolution.
* ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'': Most of the community's memes have gone [[AscendedMeme straight into the game itself]], but some have been kept in supplementary material and on the website:
** Riot Game's periodic Q&A session posted on their website is named 'Rito Pls', a common gag used in-game for when you want to complain about the developers making the game the way it is (usually in the vein of 'why is this character so broken').
** In one of their website posts explaining about new use of smart pings, the developers' chosen image was of the '?' ping over a dead player character - a common site in-game when players are demanding to know what someone thought they were doing when they got themselves killed.
** In a 2018 run of the One For All mode, where everyone on each team plays the same character, the devs pointed out that in this version buffs can stack on top of each other when they wouldn't normally. Among the examples they gave for this was that Sivir, with five stacks of Sivir's ultimate ability stacked at once, is the fastest thing in the game. They highlighted this by saying she has won the title of The Fast from Jhin, after a notorious Jhin movespeed build of that name that became popular on [=YouTube=].
* ''VideoGame/Persona5'':
** Whenever you go to Mementos, a Palace, or have multiple days of plot events (usually to set up the new target and the next Palace), Morgana [[ScrappyMechanic will refuse to let you do anything that will take time once you return to your room besides going to bed.]] The fandom quickly picked up on this and joked about it extensively, up to and including Morgana telling the protagonist to Literature/GoTheFuckToSleep. October 20th, 2018 saw Morgana's English VA, Creator/CassandraLeeMorris, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHKc-YXVBhM reading the book in question]]. In Morgana's voice, to be precise.
** Goro Akechi's single mention of "delicious pancakes" led fans to declare pancakes his TrademarkFavoriteFood, mostly because [[spoiler:only Morgana mentioned pancakes in the Phantom Thieves' conversation, and Akechi being able to understand him revealed he'd been to the Metaverse long before he said he had]]. Creator/{{Atlus}} USA referenced this by calling Akechi "everyone's favorite pancake-loving detective" in the description of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKkM_s7aB38 the trailer for his pre-order bonus]] for ''VideoGame/Persona5DancingInStarlight'' and ''VideoGame/Persona3DancingInMoonlight''.
*** And then in the UpdatedReRelease ''Royal'', one of Akechi's lines while driving through Mementos is that he does not want to hear the word "pancakes" for a long, ''long'' ,time.
* ''VideoGame/FireEmblemThreeHouses'':
** One meme that circulated in the fandom involving Claude being depicted upside-down in reference to his depiction on the box art. His voice actor, Creator/JoeZieja, [[https://twitter.com/JoeZieja/status/1151639441892503552 made his announcement]] for the role while hanging upside down.
** Seteth's quests for Byleth have been edited into all kinds of silly requests. His voice actor, Creator/MarkWhitten, [[https://twitter.com/mpwhitten/status/1157550070583029760 voiced]] [[https://twitter.com/mpwhitten/status/1157547996159963136 a few of them]] in character.
* ''VideoGame/PAYDAY2'' generated lots of memes. Some of the most notable examples are:
** Drills are a common tool to open doors and similar objects and they are infamously known for always breaking down at the worst possible time and multiple times at that. When the developers did a Twelve Days of Christmas parody, the first day of Christmas has Chains gifted with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjnJk5V9nSM a broke dick piece of shit drill.]]
** One of Huston's lines towards hostages is "Don't act dumb!", which is said in a very deadpan manner. Overkill took that one line and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRrZWoBc860 made a whole song out of it]]. It's even selectable in game as track to play during an assault wave.
** When Chains get incapacitated, [[MissionControl Bain]] is very likely say "Chains is in a pickle!", which lead to fans making fan art of Chains being in an actual pickle. The devs took it to the next level by making a wearable pickle mask and then having Chains's voice actor rapping to a song about [[https://youtu.be/WXyYdY_o4sQ Chains getting into all sorts of trouble, which leads to him being in a pickle.]]
* ''VideoGame/TotalDistortion'' writer/composer Joe Sparks [[https://youtu.be/HE8UJNWJnNE?t=568 has made clear]] he's amazed at how memetic the song "You Are Dead" became. He'll probably show up in the comments of videos about the song (or the game) too.
* [[OurElvesAreDifferent Orion]] is often called "Mel Gibson" by fans of the ''VideoGame/TotalWarWarhammer'' games, due to a perceived resemblance with the actor, and Creative Assembly mentioned the meme in a patch notes, noting that Orion "denies any resemblances with the human actor Mel Gibson".
* ''VideoGame/{{Civilization}}'':
** Update announcements for ''Civilization VI'''s New Frontier DLC packs are often signed off with '...and thank you, for taking one. More. Turn.'
** In the introduction for [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B28V9N3N-EI their developer livestream to showcase Ethiopia's introduction as DLC]] in ''VI'', the three commentators were presented on-screen as if they were in-game Governor units. The host's apparent Governor ability is 'Trade deal with England', referencing the memetic voice clip from ''V''.
* The game ''VideoGame/VineRealms'' was largely created as this, being roughly half this and half {{Mythology Gag}}s from the WebVideo/{{Vinesauce}} community. Many, many community in-jokes are mentioned or referenced in-game.
* Gabe Newell made a cameo in a music video for Music/TheChalkeaters, where he said "Is this what you’ve been waiting for? Say "One, two....and four"!"
* The official ''Final Fantasy'' Facebook page made a post that celebrated the 27th anniversary of ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI''. The post recapped memorable moments from the game, including suplexing trains.
* Following the announcement of the last content update for ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossingNewHorizons'', Nintendo conducted a poll on its [=YouTube=] channel asking what new/returning content coming to the game that players were most excited about. The options for said poll were the addition of an expanded version of the wildly popular Happy Home Designer mode from ''New Leaf'', the return of many beloved but conspicuously absent [=NPCs=] such as Brewster and Kapp'n, the new decorating and customization options, and...[[MemeticMutation the Froggy Chair]].[[labelnote:*]] which, yes, did indeed get the most votes.[[/labelnote]]
* ''VideoGame/NickelodeonAllStarBrawl'': In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdBAEpx6o9k the official moveset showcase video]] for Franchise/{{Garfield}}, the narrator explains his regular light attack is a simple kick before saying "It's time to kick Odie off the table." This is quoted verbatim from the notorious [=YouTube=] parody ''WebVideo/{{Garfielf}}''.
** [[WesternAnimation/TheAdventuresOfJimmyNeutronBoyGenius Hugh Neutron]] being added to the game (before his son, no less) can be seen as a public acknowledgment of the way the man has been a source of memes on the internet.
* ''{{VideoGame/MultiVersus}}'' all but makes Ultra Instinct Shaggy canon, with the game's first trailer having Shaggy, after being upset at other characters picking on him for no reason, scream out of his lungs and having an aura around him in a similar fashion to a ''Franchise/DragonBall'' character powering up. One of Shaggy's entrance lines also references Ultra Instinct Shaggy when he says he needs to use 2% of his power.
* The devs behind ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIV'' knows about the memes the game makes and have taken notice in various ways:
** When Yotsuyu was introduced in the ''Stormblood'' expansion, one of her memorable scenes was her stomping her heel onto Gosetsu's head. This led to a lot of "Step on me!" memes from the community who were enamored by Yotsuyu for [[PerverseSexualLust obvious reasons]]. One of the dev blogs that talked about an upcoming fan festival showed a picture of several paper cutout figurines on a stand. One of them showed Yotsuyu's figure standing on top of Gosetsu's, whose figurine is knocked over.
** The Dragoon job used to be unwieldy and was infamous for its lengthy animation lock after using Jump, which could get the player killed from an enemy attack if used at the wrong time. This had many players using the LOLDRG meme[[note]] Actually originated from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXI'' where the job was mocked for similar reasons.[[/note]] whenever a player playing as a Dragoon died. The devs joined on the fun by mocking the job in several ways, such as the Dragoon's job pin being knocked off the table or the Dragoon face planting in the ground in some sprite art.
** When fighting Omega, its theme plays during the fight and is accompanied by lyrics. Due to everyone constantly mishearing the lyrics, fans often heard "A chicken tender, get ready to fry!" [[labelnote: Actual lyrics]] A drifting tender Come ride, heroes, ride![[/labelnote]] A 2019 April Fool's gag from the devs showed a mother frying chicken tenders while Omega's own theme song plays in the background.
** In the music fighting Ruby Weapon, a common mondegreen is to hear the lyrics as saying "big fat tacos, so big" [[labelnote: Actual Lyrics]]Beat, the Heat of Sabik, Sabik[[/labelnote]]. A ''separate'' meme is common image edits of a moment when the character G'raha Tia is chomping down on a cheeseburger. The first trailer for Dawntrail combines them, showing G'raha Tia eating, yes, a big fat taco.
* ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles3'':
** Eunie's voice actress, Kitty Archer, changed her Twitter profile to reference the oft-quoted "Hear that, Noah? Lanz wants something a bit meatier!" along with [[https://twitter.com/kittyarch/status/1565467838072119296 retweeting]] a "Eunie's the bus!" meme.
** Noah's voice actor, Harry [=McEntire=], referenced and/or quoted a number of fandom memes while livestreaming his playthrough of the game, including "It's Mwambin' Time", "WOTAH", and "Lanz wants something a bit meatier."
* Creator/TobyFox, creator of ''VideoGame/{{Undertale}}'', acknowledged Sans' popularity in Tumblr as a [[MrFanservice "sexyman"]] by writing a [[https://twitter.com/tobyfox/status/1567739718762364929?t=NwGy0zF2_uQ9PaNW5JX0tw&s=19 short fanfic]] where Sans beats [[Webcomic/MobPsycho100 Arataka Reigen]] by one vote in a "Tumblr Sexyman" contest.
* The ''Undertale'' meme about Sans being an acronym for [[WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse Steven After Not Surviving]] was referenced in the [[https://deltarune.com/sweepstakes/ Spamton Sweepstakes]] charity fundraiser for ''VideoGame/{{Deltarune}}'', where one of the prizes was "Spamton After Not Surviving", a jar of white sand (doubling as a StealthPun -- Sands, Sans) and a pair of balls representing Spamton's eyes. Another prize is a poster Spamton calls a "Fungible Token", referencing memes about Spamton and Non-Fungible Tokens ([=NFTs=]).
* ''VideoGame/DwarfFortress'': "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKv-liYc4qU Koganusan]]," one of the tracks on the soundtrack for the Steam release, is the dwarven name of the infamous fortress of Blog/{{Boatmurdered}}.
* In the early days since the release of ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4Remake'', [[https://twitter.com/Agrimmora/status/1639260271628677121 Twitter user Agrimmora posted fanart of Ashley Graham]] (the game's rescuee) as a [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter tiny cartoon]] [[FunnyAnimal mouse]]. "Moushley" caught on like wildfire and eventually, the official Resident Evil twitter would appear to subtly catch on, as a few days later they posted [[https://twitter.com/RE_Games/status/1641912037667225602?s=20 a single post consisting of two emoticons: a mouse and a block of cheese.]]
* Upon [[TheOtherDarrin taking over as the English VA]] of Tighnari in ''VideoGame/GenshinImpact'', Creator/ZacharyGordon [[https://twitter.com/ZacharyGordon/status/1646186336528011264 endorsed memes]] depicting Tighnari as Greg Heffley from ''Literature/DiaryOfAWimpyKid'', made as an ActorAllusion to Gordon's big role as Greg in [[Film/DiaryOfAWimpyKid the film adaptations]]. Later, in response to a challenge in which actors would share two roles showing off their range, [[https://twitter.com/ZacharyGordon/status/1656392945241673734 Gordon's own contribution]] compared Greg Heffley to Tighnari.
* In the leadup to ''VideoGame/StreetFighter6''[='s=] release, Luke's voice actor Creator/AleksLe created [[https://youtu.be/3YDXcMe-YiA his own version]] of the memetic [[https://youtu.be/7JM7pPpfIPY "Ryu from Streets™"]] video.
** He later got Creator/KyleHebert, the voice of Ryu since ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIV'', to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Re389qsXlI dub over the original]].
* It is a huge meme in ''TableTopGame/Warhammer40000'' that the [[HornyVikings Space Wolves]] use the world "Wolf" a lot, in that many of their units and characters have it (or a variation, like "lupine") as part of their name. You can point out to your Space Wolf companion in ''VideoGame/Warhammer40000RogueTrader'' that "Fenrisians [the planet they are from] seem to bring wolves into anything". He'll simply laugh and admit you have a point, and explains that it's because the animal is a huge part of the planet's culture.
* ''VideoGame/MarioVsDonkeyKong'': The January 15, 2024 Switch in-system Nintendo News article about the remake of the first game opens and closes with the memetic "mmm ... bananas" line from the game's intro.

* At one particular Comiket, [[VisualNovel/SchoolDays 0verflow]] named their booth "Nice Boat.", which initially spawned as an euphemism for the infamous finale of the anime of ''School Days'' in which [[spoiler:Kotonoha flees on a boat with Makoto's severed head]].
* ''Franchise/AceAttorney'':
** After "The miracle never happen" in ''VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorneyJusticeForAll'', Janet Hsu [[http://www.capcom-unity.com/zeroobjections/blog/2014/08/22/phoenix-wright-ace-attorney-trilogy-localization-blog-hello-again mentioned in an update]] for the 3DS ''[[CompilationRerelease Ace Attorney Trilogy]]'' that "the miracle did happen!" as they're proofreading the text again for the new release.

** The official ''Ace Attorney'' Twitter account celebrated the launch of ''VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorneySpiritOfJustice'' with [[https://twitter.com/aceattorneygame/status/773973311139086337 "some delicious ramen"]] while showing a picture of a cheeseburger, referencing the ''Webcomic/AwkwardZombie'' [[https://www.awkwardzombie.com/comic/culture-schlock comic.]]
** The official Twitter referenced the same meme again by celebrating the international release of ''VisualNovel/TheGreatAceAttorney Chronicles'' with [[https://twitter.com/aceattorneygame/status/1420112901319270402 a traditional English lunch.]] Even following that by directly quoting the meme, [[https://twitter.com/aceattorneygame/status/1420112904649543681 "Eat your Fish n' Chips Ryunosuke."]]
* Creator/SpikeChunsoft loves the ''VisualNovel/ZeroEscape'' parodies made by [=YouTuber CaptainCrisby=].
* Creator/BrycePapenbrook, the voice of Nagito Komaeda in the ''Franchise/{{Danganronpa}}'' series, acknowledged the bagel meme started by LetsPlay/NicoB. 244* Ever since Kokichi Oma's official artwork in ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony'' of holding a bottle of grape [[BlandNameProduct Panta]], the fans seem to treat it like it is his TrademarkFavoriteFood even though Kokichi never talks about Panta in the actual canon (although his report card says he likes carbonated drinks). [[http://jinjojess.tumblr.com/post/158567874223/ndrv3-nicocafe-drink-menu-translations-by-request NicoCafe menu drinks that are themed after this game]] ended up having Grape Fanta as his drink.

* ''WebAnimation/{{Shrapnel}}'': In an unusual ''stay-one-step-ahead-of-the-comment-section'' kind of way for ''KILL CONTRACT 2: Once Upon a Time in Uganda'', where the viewers were encouraged at the end of the episode to add #deadmeme to their comments to get a response from the creator about questions they may have, in acknowledgement that the meme that the Ugandan Knuckles characters featured in the episode came from, was already a DiscreditedMeme by the time the episode came out.

* ''Webcomic/FlorkOfCows'': After the [=NonCredibleDefense=] [[Website/{{Reddit}} subreddit]] started drawing the Florks [[https://www.reddit.com/r/NonCredibleDefense/comments/1262dt8/story_of_how_the_kontakt_1_got_onto_the_2a4/ putting explosive reactive armor on anything imaginable]], Flork [[https://www.reddit.com/r/FlorkofCowsOfficial/comments/12hw0f2/bricked_up/ drew his own comic referencing the craze]]. 254* ''WebComic/{{Homestuck}}'': The Betty Crocker corporation has referenced [[BeethovenWasAnAlienSpy their role as a villain]] in ''Homestuck'' several times on their Twitter account. They were once asked if they were aware that their CEO was an alien troll queen attempting to destroy the universe. Their response was "We can neither confirm nor deny."
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
* ''WebVideo/EpicRapBattlesOfHistory'' did a rap battle between Creator/DonaldTrump vs. [[Literature/AChristmasCarol Ebenezer Scrooge]]. The very next day after the video was released, Donald Trump himself tweeted about the video, understandably confused and asking "What's with this rap stuff between me and Ebenezer Scrooge?"
** Many of the real-life celebrities who have been "featured" in the rap battles have since acknowledged their respective videos, including [[https://www.twitter.com/StephenKing/status/473571946316443648 Stephen King]] (who even [[https://twitter.com/StephenKing/status/474569078162849793 tweeted]] [[https://twitter.com/StephenKing/status/474569565587136512 his own lyrics]] in response), [[https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/2arlx5/i_am_bill_nye_the_science_guy_and_ceo_of_the/ciy1q1s Bill Nye]], and [[https://twitter.com/GordonRamsay/status/733058268319354880 Gordon]] [[https://twitter.com/GordonRamsay/status/733058393926205442 Ramsay.]]
* The creator of quiz site Sporcle decided to [[https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/205kuw/i_am_the_founder_of_sporcle_ama/cfzz8yp answer a question to]] the site's AscendedMeme (UsefulNotes/{{Kyrgyzstan}}, the hard to spell country the fanbase loves) with another comment section RunningGag: "[[UsefulNotes/{{Basketball}} Mike Krzyzewski]] could have been our inside joke, ''but he's too U.S. centric''."
* Legendary stop-motion animator [[Creator/TippettStudio Phil Tippett]] has apparently gotten sick and tired with people telling him, "You had one job, Phil! One job!" in response to his official job on the set of ''Jurassic Park'' being "Dinosaur Supervisor" and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8viBPFLcdnM uploaded a rebuttal to his YouTube channel]].
--->YOU WEREN'T THERE! Enough with the meme.
* One of the earliest and most popular stories on ''Website/NotAlwaysRight'' involves [[https://notalwaysright.com/de-ting-de-ting/67844/ a customer]] who is attempting to edit a video and tells tech support that it's "blue and blue on de ting". Readers have kept the phrase alive in the comments section for years, the site printed it on a T-shirt, and even the editors themselves have worked references to "de ting" into just about any story that involves the color blue in some way.
* In late 2022, Tumblr-users rediscovered a long lost mafia movie named ''WebOriginal/{{Goncharov}}'', supposedly created by Creator/MartinScorsese, as a PlayAlongMeme. When asked about it by his daughter, Scorsese confirmed that [[https://twitter.com/FilmUpdates/status/1596225898415546371 he did, in fact, create Goncharov]].
* In WebVideo/{{Pyrocynical}}'s [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvw3yawK7ww review]] of the first four episodes of ''WesternAnimation/HazbinHotel'', he points out the meme where people jokingly call the character Vox "Pyrocynical" or "Voxrocynical" because of the similarities of his avatar and Vox both having a [[NonHumanHead TV for a head]].

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' has a lot of these.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTPqjKk_xCo This season 2 promo]] acknowledges acknowledged the fan terms "brony" (term for fans of the show, usually defined as the [[PeripheryDemographic older male ones]]) and "DJ Pon-3" (for the DJ pony seen in "Suited for Success").
** At the January 2012 Bronycon, Creator/AshleighBall was asked to say one of Jappleack's lines from ''[[WebAnimation/PonyDotMov APPLE.MOV]]''. She settled for "Uh... [[CurseCutShort Fu... Forget you!]] Ah can eat all these apples!" Hotdiggedydemon, the maker of the .MOV series, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7YA5F5EWwI posted a response]].
** May 30, 2012 [[http://content.usatoday.com/communities/popcandy/post/2012/05/exclusive-preview-the-2012-special-edition-my-little-pony/1#.T88MoDmIhIE saw the announcement]] of a special edition toy for Comic-con. The toy packaging is nameless, but contains a gray pegasus pony with blond hair, bubbles cutie mark, and yellow walleyes. The package is complete with muffins on the box art.
** Speaking of, even in the show itself pretty much everything owing to Derpy Hooves' character, from her status as a [[TheDitz lovable good-natured ditz]], her job as a postal worker and mail carrier, and her (potentially romantic) relationship with Doctor Whooves all come from memes created by fans.
** The nature of Lyra and Bon Bon's friendship being so [[https://trixiebooru.org/1709402 overtly]] [[https://trixiebooru.org/1734319 romantic]] (though stopping just short of admitting it, or [[InsistentTerminology insisting they're ]] ''[[InsistentTerminology "best]]'' [[InsistentTerminology friends"]]) is a response to their now memetic standing as a very popular OneTruePairing among fans. Coming full circle, the term "best friends" has become a meme in the fandom that refers to characters who are in love.
** [=WeLoveFine=]'s officially licensed ''My Little Pony'' line of shirts is at least half ascended memes.
** Also inverted in a way: Ghost of ''Radio/TrueCapitalist Radio'' would often describe himself as "Melting Pot of Friendship" to deflect accusations of racism. He also hates the show and its fandom. So a [[{{Troll}} "fan"]] recorded Creator/TaraStrong saying in her Twilight Sparkle voice that she's a Melting Pot of Friendship. Ghost [[DudeNotFunny took it well]].
** A DVD box set featured a "Now 20% cooler!" sticker.
** The official extended version of the song "Awesome As I Wanna Be" includes the line "You wish you could be 20% cooler."
** The song "My Little Pony Friends," a song originally written as the end credits song for the ''My Little Pony Equestria Girls'' movie, includes the lyrics "Love and Tolerate".
** The [[MilestoneCelebration 100th episode]], "Slice of Life", was effectively written as a thank-you to the fans for supporting the series for so long - as such, it's a near-constant barrage of references to fandom memes, most notably canonizing "Steven Magnet"[[note]]originating from a poor-quality [=YouTube=] caption[[/note]] as the name of the campy purple serpent from "Friendship is Magic, Part 2."
* ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'' fandom managed to get Creator/SteveBlum to read out some "Comedy Amon" jokes at a convention.
* Creator/ComedyCentral's bumpers promoting the 2012 season of ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}'' were based off of several popular memes, including Fry's "Not Sure If..." and "Why Not Zoidberg?", with Creator/BillyWest providing the voiceovers.
* An ad for the 2014 Kids Choice Awards on Nickelodeon makes use of the [[WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants Surprised Patrick]] [[Memes/SpongeBobSquarePants meme]].
* An arguable case, since the meme referenced isn't related to the work itself, but ''WesternAnimation/TheLionGuard'' character Bunga, known for extreme bravery and and not being bothered by anything, is a Honey Badger. The creators even admit that the character was partially influenced by the "honey badger don't care" meme.
* ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'':
** ''Steven Universe'' has the incredibly well-known meme known as "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nr_UYwaVNqE "Pearl's]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY91IYtdjhU secret]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A4axXb6MR4 rap]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIVtnMHYmJI career"]] [[note]]created by [=YouTuber=] [[https://www.youtube.com/user/MightBeMaybeME MKAtwood]][[/note]]. The meme features Pearl singing and dancing to the song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXkCXuDxV78 "LA"]] by The Party, but only the verse sung by Deedee Magno Hall, Pearl's voice actress. Hilarious, especially since the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KCE1ReHrLU final installment]] of this meme features footage of Deedee herself REACTING to it.
** For a while there was a meme of portraying Peridot as very stereotypically Canadian. This was because some fans speculated she had landed in Canada, however it was later shown that she didn't. Still, Peridot becomes obsessed with a very Canadian ShowWithinAShow called "Camp Pining Hearts".
* The creators of ''WesternAnimation/VoltronLegendaryDefender'' have acknowledged [[TeamDad Shiro]] as being the [[FanNickname "Space Dad."]] Shiro's voice actor, Creator/JoshKeaton, seems to be especially fond of using it on social media.
* After the series finale of ''WesternAnimation/SamuraiJack'', Aku's voice actor Greg Baldwin had [[https://twitter.com/GregBaldwinIroh/status/866384652453371904 this]] to say.
* The SpecialEditionTitle of [[LongRunners Season 30]] of ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' had a very brief clip of an episode from the previous 29 seasons play in reverse chronological order. The clip that represents Season 7 was Superintendent Chalmers saying "steamed hams" from the episode ''22 Short Films About Springfield'', specifically Principal Skinner's segment of the episode. That segment was a rather popular meme during the year of the Season 30 premier, flying under the name "Steamed Hams".
* Dan Povenmire acknowledged [[https://www.youtube.com/shorts/LCy49hkHJIc the meme depicting Re-Destro as Doofenshmirtz.]]
-->'''Dan''': (as Doofenshmirtz) I can finally give Huge Hands Hans a run for his money!
* Creator/TomKenny and Creator/RodgerBumpass were once asked at a convention what their favourite ''WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants'' [[Memes/SpongeBobSquarePants memes]] were. 297* Creator/KlaskyCsupo, known for cartoons such as ''WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}}'' and ''WesternAnimation/TheWildThornberrys'', at one point took notice of the constant remixes on the internet of their second VanityPlate depicting a yellow construction paper face which infamously scared quite a few children when they watched their shows. Their response? They named said face Splaat, made him their official mascot, and gave him a short-lived webtoon called ''WebAnimation/RoboSplaat'', the first episode of which has him complaining about his scary reputation, the constant remixes he has to put up with, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking how the aforementioned remixers keep referring to him as the "robot" logo when he's actually an ink splat]].

* The [[UsefulNotes/NationalBasketballAssociation NBA]] [=YouTube=] account acknowledged MemeticBadass Brian Scalabrine by making a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnXQsJ8ung8 mixtape]] of his best moments, something usually reserved for superstars of the game.
* Creator/ChuckNorris and his public acknowledgment of Website/ChuckNorrisFacts in TV interviews. For the most part, he finds them very amusing. He even wrote a book compiling some of his favorites!
* UsefulNotes/BarackObama used the popular "Thanks, Obama" meme while he was still in office by posting a video of himself trying to dunk a large cookie into a glass of milk that was clearly too small for the cookie. The "Thanks Obama" subreddit promptly shut down, noting that there was no way anyone else could ever top that.
* Similarly, a photo of Hillary Clinton on her cell phone spawned the [[http://textsfromhillaryclinton.tumblr.com/ "Texts from Hillary"]] tumblr. 312* Football manager Neil Warnock, then at Cardiff City, went viral in 2019 after staring down and chasing away a TV camera that got a little too close to him during a match against Crystal Palace. When Warnock joined Twitter in May 2022, his very first tweet was a video him replicating the clip.
* Trivago has some played-to-the-point-of-overkill ads.
