This is a character contrast trope. Both female characters are decidedly feminine but in different ways. The light is generally angelic and feels love, whereas the dark is generally devilish and plays with desire. The light is usually sweet and naïve, whereas the dark is usually aloof and brooding. Either type applies to a TomboyAndGirlyGirl contrast. May overlap with HairContrastDuo when their hair color is used to denote their light-and-dark femininity. When a love interest is involved, it's likely to lead to a BettyAndVeronica love triangle: Betty being the Light Feminine, and Veronica being the Dark Feminine.

As with any two-character trope, the two characters have to have some sort of relationship with each other, be it friends, family, love interests, or rivals for a love interest, so the two characters can be playing the traits directly off each other.

The dark feminine character is not always a villain or a whore, or even necessarily half of a "good girl, bad girl" or "naughty and nice" pair. It could be that she's just the more serious, sophisticated, or mature half of the pair. In some cases, she's even as sweet and innocent as her Light counterpart but finds herself drawn to the shadows. Remember, DarkIsNotEvil. Likewise, LightIsNotGood and the Light Feminine need not be either TheIngenue or ThePollyanna but may be distinguished by her nobleness, proactiveness, or determination.

Compare the innocent child and the seductress of TheThreeFacesOfEve as well as the sweet-naïve one and sexy one of the FourGirlEnsemble. With a duo consisting of a MagicalGirl and a DarkMagicalGirl, in general, the MagicalGirl is Light Feminine and the DarkMagicalGirl is Dark Feminine.

The SpearCounterpart is NobleMaleRoguishMale -- two guys who are both masculine but in different ways.

In modern Western culture, "feminine" usually implies Light Feminine, while "masculine" usually implies Roguish Male. When Dark Feminine and Noble Male are paired up, you usually get MasculineGirlFeminineBoy.

Not to be confused with PaleFemalesDarkMales. This is about personality, not fur/skin color.

* Matoi from Manga/AyakashiTriangle embodies both sides: Her real identity is a boisterous drunk, an imposing authority figure (both to her subordinates and her own child), and a provocatively-dressed tease. Her disguise as the assistant teacher Ibuki is much more modest, demure, and passive to the point of being harassed by her own students.
* In Manga/BlackClover, Mimosa is the Light to her cousin Noelle's Dark. Mimosa is kind, polite, and modest about her social class, while Noelle is outwardly haughty, cold, and flaunts her status as a royal. Mimosa is more sweet about her affections for Asta while Noelle is a Tsundere to him. Mimosa is more of a recovery mage, using a restorative flower dress, in contrast to Noelle who grows to become an attack mage, forming an elegant water armor to fight up close.
* Manga/Bleach: Rangiku and Momo's Zanpakutos fit this trope. Haineko is a CatGirl Tease and interested in fashion, boys, and her looks; by contrast, Tobiume is very cute and ladylike looking and refers to herself as a YamatoNadeshiko (though technically, she's more of a Tsundere), as well as less open about her own share of fangirlism.
* Manga/CaseClosed:
** The happy, friendly Ran as the light and the BrokenBird Haibara as the dark (the former being the subject of Shinichi's SingleTargetSexuality and the latter being implied to have strong feelings for him).
** Yukiko Kudo and Sharon Vineyard aka Vermouth. Yukiko is Shinichi's kind and beautiful mother who is also kind of a WomanChild sometimes, and Sharon is her long-time friend and quite the dangerous mixture of FemmeFatale and DarkActionGirl.
* Manga/CountCains sweet, energetic, Princess but utterly good-hearted baby sister Meriweather and Yandere jealous, Trickster-ish, spider-controlling... something Mikaela vie for his attention through much of the Godchild arc. They even dress in clothes that resemble Sweet and Gothic Lolita, respectively.
* Manga/CrossplayLoveOtakuXPunk: Hana is blonde, dresses in more feminine clothing like dresses, and is much kinder and softer than the dark-haired Mei, who dresses more androgynously and still shows some of Delinquent Shuumei's HotBlooded personality. Both of them are actually crossdressers, but don't know the other is as well.
* Manga/DearBrother:
** Nanako Misonoo and Mariko Shinobu, contrasting with the BifauxnenAndLadette duo of Rei and Kaoru. While cute, mild-mannered, and softspoken Nanako sits firmly on the NiceGirl spectrum, Mariko is a mixture of Yandere and Tsundere from day one. It's lampshaded in a scene at the start when Nanako tells Mariko that she's fascinated by the latter's ruby-red lips and she explains that she keeps them like that via biting on them... then tries to get Nanako to do it, but she gets scared and runs off.
** Nanako and the very Ojou elegant and aloof Fukiko "Miya-sama" Ichinomiya, who displays her own share of femininity in a very sophisticated and high-class way.
* Anime/DigimonDataSquad: This is the case between the two BridgeBunnies Megumi Shirakawa and Miki Kurosaki. As if their last names and hair colors (blonde and dark purple, respectively) aren't enough, each of them has a [=PawnChessmon=] as a partner, with Megumi having the white one and Miki having the black one. Personality-wise, Megumi is the more cheerful one, and Miki is the more serious and mature one. They later switch their uniforms for rider suits, with Megumi's being more modest to fit her cute personality and Miki's being more revealing to show off her sex appeal. Their Digimon partners eventually evolve into two different kinds of Digimon once they reach their Perfect-level. Megumi has the white [=BishopChessmon=] who is more magic-orientated, while Miki has the black [=RookChessmon=] who is more physically orientated.
* Manga/FruitsBasket:
** The kind and sweet YamatoNadeshiko Tohru Honda is the Light to the sexy BrokenBird Rin Sohma's Dark.
** There's Tohru's friends, Uotani (a tall, outgoing, tough former gangster) and Hanajima (a PerkyGoth who's frail and tends to creepily threaten people with her psychic powers, if they upset Tohru).
** Later in the series, we also get sweet, happy Tohru and the depressed, broken spoiler:Akito, a much-abused young woman who keeps the Sohma clan's reins through fear and anger (and sometimes sex, in the case of Kureno and Shigure). Tohru then helps the Sohmas through her issues, thus she becomes Akito's target... and she ultimately manages to reach for her too.
* Anime/FutariWaPrettyCure: Nagisa, a sporty tomboy on the lacrosse team, is oddly the Light Feminine considering her generally upbeat nature (to say nothing of her love for sweets), and Honoka, the more down-to-earth scientist, is the Dark Feminine considering she literally pulls no punches against the enemy.
* Franchise/Gundam:
** Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED has Lacus Clyne as Light opposite Fllay Alster as Dark. Lacus is softspoken and ladylike and a TokenWholesome in looks (save for sometimes showing off her long legs), while Fllay is a very busty BrokenBird with serious issues and who uses her looks to her advantage. They are also interested in the same guy, Kira Yamato, though not at the same time;
** Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny has the aforementioned Lacus and her much HotterAndSexier BodyDouble, Meer Campbell. It's also deliberately invoked: Chairman Dullindal and his entourage carefully craft Meer's HotterAndSexier image to make her (or better said Lacus') popularity soar and use it to their advantage.
* Manga/Haikyuu: Shimizu and Yachi are the boys' volleyball team's much-loved female managers. Shimizu is a tall, poised brunette considered sexy and responsible by other characters; Yachi is a sweet, klutzy, motherly blonde whom Shimizu acts as a CoolBigSis mentor to.
* The Literature/HaruhiSuzumiya series has a one-woman example with Mikuru Asahina: her sweet and shy younger self is the Light Feminine, and her sexy and manipulative future self is the Dark Feminine.
* Manga/HighschoolOfTheDead portrays Rei and Saeko as polar opposites in more ways than one:
** While Rei is a MartialPacifist, Saeko's an AxCrazy BloodKnight. In her recount of how she'd once been accosted by a would-be rapist, Saeko told Takashi that realizing she had the upper hand and seeing his fear was exhilarating for her, which incited her to beat him within an inch of his life. By contrast, when Rei was given the opportunity to kill Shidou (whom she loathes), seeing the fear in his eyes had the opposite effect.
** This is also reflected in their ongoing LoveTriangle with Takashi, with Rei being the "Betty" to Saeko's "Veronica". As such, Rei is the ChildhoodFriend[=/=]GirlNextDoor with a crush, whereas Saeko prefers to let her sex appeal do the talking and flaunts it. This is further reflected by the difference in the way they dress. Rei wears her school uniform, with knee and elbow pads for protection. Saeko modified hers to include: garter belts, lacey black thigh-high stockings, and stiletto-heeled boots, along with a matching mini-skirt with a split seam so high, it flashes her panties when she walks. When Rei and the others see what she's wearing, Rei explodes:
--->Rei: (incredulous) What the heck is THAT!? Aren't you embarrassed showing off like that!? I can't believe stripperific you're walking around like that!!
* In Anime/IdolDensetsuEriko, we have the two main ladies, the aspirant IdolSinger Eriko Tamura and the already famous performer Rei Asagiri. Eriko is the Light thanks to her moe child-like appeal which fits well in Japanese society's obsession with cuteness and innocence and her position as a NaiveNewcomer to the business which will make her suffer more than once, while Rei is the Dark since she's an IceQueen with HotterAndSexier looks, quite a bit more of singing/performing experience under her belt
* Manga/InitialD gives us the only team made of girls: the driver Mako Satou, who is a NiceGirl, and her best friend/co-pilot Sayuki who goes the FemmeFatale way.
* Manga/InuYasha has the good-natured, cheerful Kagome, and the brooding, vengeful Kikyou. Despite Kagome being Kikyou's reincarnation, inheriting her looks and Miko powers, the two are exact opposites of each other: Kagome is plucky and optimistic while Kikyou is broken and embittered.
* Manga/KimagureOrangeRoad: Hikaru Hiyama and Madoka Ayukawa were a TomboyAndGirlyGirl duo as little girls, but switched to this as teenagers. Bright, naïve, cheerful Hikaru is the Light, while initially harsh yet kindhearted and very sexy Madoka is the Dark. This is also emphasized by their hair color (Hikaru is blonde while Madoka is dark-haired) and even their names (Hikaru's name references the sun and light while Madoka's name references the night and darkness).
* Ranka Lee (Light--Moe, ACupAngst, naïve, youthful) and Sheryl Nome (Dark--BrokenBird, BuxomBeautyStandard, Stripperiffic when on-stage) in Anime/MacrossFrontier.
* In the American arc of Manga/MarmaladeBoy, Jinny Golding was the flirty FemmeFatale Dark to Doris O'Connor's mature CoolBigSis Light.
* Literature/MyYouthRomanticComedyIsWrongAsIExpected has cheerful and outgoing Yui as the light feminine, and initially harsh and cold, but kind-hearted BrokenBird Yukino as the dark feminine.
* In Manga/NatsuENoTobira, Ledania is the Light, as a shy woman with gentle and chaste behavior plus blond hair; Sara is the Dark as an older and sex-aware older woman, with RavenHairIvorySkin looks. It's especially empathized by foil how they're viewed in-story: the chaste-looking Ledania is a symbol of passive innocence who can only watch as everything goes to Hell, while the sensual Sara is more of an "adult lover" and TheTease who dramatically "moves" the plot as she appears. spoiler: Tellingly, one of Sara's most story-important actions happens when she takes TheProtagonist Marion's virginity, while Ledania has her "child-like" love for Marion rejected and ends up as the "neutral" vortex of a LoveTriangle between two of Marion's friends.
* In Manga/OnePiece, Nami and Robin are both an interesting mix of both types of femininity. Tsundere Nami is not afraid to show her feelings and tell if she is fond of someone (as a friend, that is), and she has a soft spot for cute animals and children, but she is more known for being greedy, wearing skimpy clothes and using her feminine attributes to blackmail just about everyone. Robin is polite, motherly and has many ProperLady traits, but on the flip side, she is something of a BrokenBird, she always thinks up macabre things, and she is absolutely ruthless in battle.
* Anime/PantyAndStockingWithGarterbelt has the light feminine Stocking and the dark feminine Panty. Stocking dresses like an ElegantGothicLolita, believes in true romance and has a comparatively tame vice in the form of sweets. Panty, on the other hand, wears skimpy outfits, only sees romance as sex, and has an endless desire for it.
* In Anime/PrincessTutu, Ahiru/Duck is a cheerful and clumsy GenkiGirl whose mission in life is simply to get Mytho, the boy she admires, to smile. Rue is an elegant and aloof girl who also cares for Mytho, but in a far more possessive way due to her BrokenBird nature. Both girls have white and black costumes of their respective MagicalGirl personas, Princess Tutu and Princess Kraehe, who are both based on Odette and Odile from Theatre/SwanLake.
* In Manga/PrivateActress, we have the actresses Sayuri Nagasawa (the main character's mother) and Ruriko Daichi. Both women are pretty and talented performers, but whereas Sayuri is a classical beauty who plays "NiceGirl" roles, Ruriko has sexier looks (huge breasts included) and tends to play Ice Queens or Rich Bitches, often as the "love rival" or "bully" to a chara by Sayuri.
-->Shiho: Ruriko Daichi, the person known as Japan's Creator/MarilynMonroe in terms of sensuality... She is the opposite of the pure and innocent Sayuri Nagasawa.
* Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica: "best friends" Madoka and Homura (post-reveal) are Light and Dark respectively. Madoka is an open-hearted, generous girl who grew up in a good neighborhood , and Homura is a determined, pragmatic warrior who doesn't trust most people further than she can throw them. Their shipping fanart usually plays up this contrast.
* Another one-woman example occurs with the dual personalities of Moka Akashiya in Manga/RosarioPlusVampire, with the more personable Outer Moka being the Light Feminine and the Terror Heroine Inner Moka being the Dark Feminine.
* Anime/SonicX has the happy-go-lucky CuteBruiser Amy as light feminine and seductive MsViceGirl Rouge as dark feminine.
* Manga/TomoChanIsAGirl: Cheerful, seemingly-naïve, PerpetualSmiler Carol is the light to prickly, scheming, Evil Grin-wearing Misuzu's dark. The trope isn't played perfectly straight, however; as Carol's HiddenDepths are revealed and we find out that she too can be manipulative, just she's a lot nicer about it.And her reasons for being manipulative are usually more benign than Misuzu's.

* In ComicBook/Asterix and the Actress, a Roman actress named Latraviata pretends to be village sweetheart Panacea with the goal of retrieving some treasure unwittingly fenced by the Gauls, and vamps the character up significantly. Although she is a HoneyTrap, it's apparent from early on that she's not a bad person, and she ends up being something of a sexy, clever love interest for GuileHero Asterix, where Panacea is an innocent, delicate love interest for KindheartedSimpleton Obelix. Both Latraviata and Panacea start out as rivals but end up as best friends by the end.
%%* In Bone, Rose is the Light Feminine, while her twin sister Briar is the Dark Feminine.
* ComicBook/Vampirella has this dynamic between the heroine (Dark) and her protege Dixie Fattoni (Light). Whereas Vampirella is a seductive and alluring LadyInRed, Dixie is a vulnerable teenager who grows into a BadassNormal under Vampi, who serves as a CoolBigSis figure to her.
* Franchise/WonderWoman and her ry ComicBook/Artemis have this dynamic. While Diana is diplomatic, patient, and kind, Artemis is brash, aggressive, and rude to anyone who isn't a Bana Amazon.

* Fanfic/TheSecretLifeOfTheBackyardKids: Achmed's LoveInterests Samantha Pearce and Tiffany Stevens, respectively. Interestingly, they also overlap with BettyAndVeronica, and Sam is more tomboyish than Tiffany.

* Ghosts of the Past, sequel to Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm, has Jean as the Light Feminine in both personality (sweet, affectionate, and generally lovely) and dress sense (favouring warm colours, greens and reds in particular) to , the Dark Feminine, who's darker, grimmer, and more brooding, and generally favouring cold colours.
* In the Fanfic/InfinityTrainBlossomverse, we have Chloe Cerise and Amelia Hughes in Fanfic/InfinityTrainBlossomingTrail and Fanfic/InfinityTrainVoyageOfWisteria. Chloe is the young GenkiGirl who wears white and has bundles of enthusiasm towards the stuff on the Train (Light Feminine) while Amelia is the older, stoic and a DefrostingIceQueen while wearing a grey suit (Dark Feminine). Fanfic/InfinityTrainSeekerOfCrocus plays with this since while they still play off their Light/Dark dynamic, Chloe's final outfit for Act 1 is completely in black and her love of demons is more pronounced while Amelia has a lighter side by showing that she has a tendency for corny puns and is lightening up more.

* Fanfic/DanganronpaKommSusserTod: Nanae Mochizuki is a SweetBaker who dresses in bright pink. Her best friend, who she is rarely seen apart from, is Mayu Ikezawa, a BrokenBird who wears dark, morose purple clothes.

* Fanfic/TheStoryOfApolloDaphneAndLucaAnItalianTragedy: Rosa and Bianca. Rosa is sweet, kind, innocent and a hopeless romantic, while Bianca is cool-headed, blunt and aloof.

* Downplayed in Fanfic/TheSpectreTrilogy. Tally is a friendly NiceGirl who has pink as a signature colour, and Carla is a little more aloof and wears dark colours. Ironically, Tally has black hair and Carla is blonde.

* In WesternAnimation/Frozen2013, Princess Anna is a GenkiGirl who ThinksLikeARomanceNovel and is trusting to a fault (Light Feminine), while her sister Elsa is mysterious, aloof, and powerful (Dark Feminine).
* WesternAnimation/SleepingBeauty: Aurora is the Light Feminine (a pure-hearted princess with blonde hair) to Maleficent's Dark Feminine (manipulative and the embodiment of DarkIsEvil).
* Rapunzel from WesternAnimation/Tangled is the Light Feminine (sweet, innocent, and ObliviouslyBeautiful) to Mother Gothel's Dark Feminine (a cold and ruthless ProudBeauty). Fittingly, Mother Gothel is dark-haired while Rapunzel is blonde.

* In Film/TenThingsIHateAboutYou, a modern adaptation of Theatre/TamingOfTheShrew, elder sister Kat is snarky, intellectual, and aloof (dark) while her younger sister Bianca is bubbly and outgoing (light).
* In Creator/TimBurton's Film/AliceInWonderland2010 the White Queen is the sweet and benevolent light while her sister the Red Queen is the tempestuous and murderous dark.
* Film/TheBabysitter2017: Melanie and Bee are both friends with Cole and have varying degrees of affection for him. Between the two, Bee fills the "dark" role as Cole's hot babysitter, whom he has a childhood crush on. By contrast, Melanie is Cole's 12-year-old neighbor and his only real friend at school. But as the film progresses, Cole finds out Bee and her friends are a Satanic cult that intends to kill him, prompting Melanie to let Cole seek refuge at her parents' house. In the end, Bee's cult is defeated and Cole's friendship with Melanie has advanced to puppy love.
* Film/Barbarella: Sweet, naive, and eager-to-please Barbarella is light, while her enemy/sorta-suitor, the Black Queen, is more overtly sexual, debauched, and domineering, and therefore the dark.
* Film/BatmanForever has Two-Face's molls, Sugar (played by Creator/DrewBarrymore) and Spice (played by Debi Mazar). Subverted in that both of them are "bad", and "Sugar" is probably worse because she
* Film/BatmanAndRobin had a dark villainous character (Poison Ivy) and a light heroic character (Batgirl).
%%* Discussed in Film/BlackSwan with the characters portrayed by Creator/NataliePortman (light) and Creator/MilaKunis (dark).
* Film/BlueVelvet: Sandy and Dorothy fall into this trope, the former being a high school friend of Jeffrey, the latter being a diva vocalist who has some dark secrets. Creator/DavidLynch is very fond of this trope in general, Film/MulhollandDrive offering another example with Betty as the light feminine and Rita as the dark one.
* Film/BramStokersDracula had Mina Murray as Light Feminine, a prim and proper schoolteacher whom Dracula legitimately falls in love with, and the Dark Feminine being her best friend Lucy, a flirty highborn-lady.
* Film/BrideOfChucky had Jade and Tiffany as the former's Light to the latter's Dark. Both are reasonably feminine female characters who are smitten with their male cohorts. However, Jade is a naïve, sheltered teenage orphan who is sweet and kind, if somewhat rebellious. Tiffany on the other hand is an older and more experienced woman who smokes, dons sexy and dark outfits with heavy makeup accented by a LasciviousBeautyMark, and is a seductive and sadistic SerialKiller.
* Film/Disenchanted2022 takes this approach to it's two villains, Queen Malvina and Wicked Stepmother [[spoiler:Giselle who's been turned evil due to a wish gone awry]]. Queen Malvina wears black, lives in a palace made of dark grey stone, and rides in black and dark purple horse carriage; whereas the Wicked Stepmother has a more "homemaker gone bad", living in a sunny cottage, rides in a white and gold carriage and whilst her outfits are still dark colors they are shades of blue, gold, and pink-purple and have more varied colors in general.
* Daphne and Luster in Film/TheGamers: Dorkness Rising. Daphne is LawfulGood, dresses sensibly, and usually conducts herself with (relative) dignity. Luster is a Stripperiffic HeroicComedicSociopath.
* Film/GentlemenPreferBlondes: Jane Russell is the dark, snarky and seductive character is the Dark Feminine, while Creator/MarilynMonroe is the blonde, vapid and flirty Light Feminine.
* Film/InglouriousBasterds two female characters fit this trope well--Light, glamorous movie star, Bridget Von Hammersmark; and dark UnkemptBeauty on a vendetta, Shoshana Dreyfus.
* Subverted with the two main love interests of Franchise/JamesBond in the Creator/DanielCraig continuity. His FirstLove Vesper Lynd is a brunette, his SecondLove Madeleine Swann is a blonde, but they're actually very similar--a DarkAndTroubledPast, being forced to betray him because of a threat to someone they love, etc.
* Film/KissOfTheDamned: Redhead Djuna wears fairly light colors usually. She's a VegetarianVampire who resists the urge to feed on humans most of the time. Her sister Maia is a brunette, wears dark clothing, and has no compunctions at all about lethally feeding on people. Both have long hair and favor feminine clothing like blouses, dresses, or skirts, often of a very high quality.
* Film/LegallyBlonde: somewhat ditzy, bubbly blonde Elle (light) versus career-oriented, serious Vivian (dark). Warner chooses Vivian over Elle because as an aspiring politician, he needs his wife to be a "Jackie, not a Marilyn".
* Lili is both of these over the course of Film/Legend 1985, first as an innocent and naïve virgin in a white dress, then as a sexy and cunning ManipulativeBitch in an extremely low-cut black gown. [[spoiler:It's all an act, however. She's actually a FakeDefector trying to TheAtoner fix her own, terrible, mistake.]]
* In Film/LemonadeJoe, Or Horse Opera, Winifred Goodman and Tornado Lou both love the IdealHero Joe. Wini is a sweet and naïve Ingenue with who dresses in white and is usually seen helping her PreacherMan father or visiting her mother's grave, while Tornado Lou is a SoiledDove and a Chanteuse who wears dark and skimpy outfits and works in a saloon but dreams of becoming a different, better person.
* Film/LoveActually has the two interests of Creator/AlanRickman's character -- his wife and his aspiring mistress. Guess which one is which...
%%* Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse: Pepper Potts and Natasha Romanoff/"Natalie Rushman" in Film/IronMan2 and Film/2012.
* Film/MeanGirls had dark AlphaBitch Regina and light HollywoodHomely Cady.
* Maria and her mechanical doppelganger in Fritz Lang's Film/Metropolis are an example of this trope. Maria is loving, kind, and saintly, whereas the machine-woman is a demonic temptress deliberately created by Rotwang and Joh Fredersen to discredit her.
* Franchise/MonsterVerse:
** In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Madison Russell is a young but kind girl and is the most well-balanced member of her grieving family. On the other hand, her mother Emma Russell, who kept custody of her after the divorce, .
** In Film/GodzillaVsKong, Dr. Ilene Andrews is the most maternal character in the cast, whilst her and her team's benefactor Maia Simmons is an unfriendly RichBitch .
* Film/Matinee: Sherry is the light feminine, with her vivacious demeanor, PinkIsFeminine wardrobe, and all the dolls and stuffed animals in her bedroom. Sandra is the dark feminine, with her modest Beatnik dresses and intense, contemplative attitude. While both girls are ultimately sympathetic characters, Sandra, the dark feminine, is more caring and mature.
* Film/MyNightAtMauds: The one woman in the protagonist's life, Maud, is a free-spirited EthicalSlut who doesn't believe in God and tries to seduce the protagonist. His other woman, Francoise, is sweet and sleeps with a crucifix above her bed.
* Film/Niagara: Kind-hearted and morally upright Polly Cutler (light feminine) is contrasted with scheming, duplicitous FemmeFatale Rose Loomis (dark feminine). Ironically for the trope, Rose is blonde and Polly is brunette.
* In Film/TheOtherBoleynGirl, Mary Boleyn is kind and humble (and rather more chaste than the actual one), while her sister Anne is a flirtatious and hot-tempered woman who wants to be queen.
* Film/PalJoey: Vera (Rita Hayworth) is a former stripper and an example of AllWomenAreLustful who is perfectly ok with keeping Joey around as her boy toy. She also smokes and drinks. Linda (Kim Novak) is rather virginal, has never taken a drink, is horrified when Joey suggests she do a striptease in the club, and is very self-conscious when she does it in rehearsal.
* Film/PrettyPersuasion had two [=BFFs=] plotting the demise of their teacher in their search for fame -- light Brittany (naive) and dark Kimberly (FilleFatale).
* Film/Sunrise: The Woman from The City is the Dark Feminine (hedonist, cheater), while The Wife is the Light Feminine (goody-goody all the way through).
* Film/SweetSweetLonelyGirl: Adele starts out as very sweet and naïve. Her friend and later romantic interest Beth is rebellious and worldly.
* Film/TheyThem2022: Kim is a sweet, feminine blonde who's easily intimidated and really wants to conform by being straight. Veronica, a more fiery, aggressive butch punk girl, insists there's nothing wrong with being gay, resisting any demand for changing.
* In Film/Vertigo, the cool, mysterious Madeleine is the Light Feminine that Scottie obsesses over and the earthier Judy is the Dark Feminine that Scottie tries to mold into Madeleine's image.
* Film/TheVirginSpring features Karin, the innocent who is specifically stated to be a virgin, and is also a Christian, and Ingeri, her servant girl, who is about eight months pregnant, isn't married, and is a secret pagan.
* In Film/XMenFirstClass (at least in the beginning), there is a textbook contrast between Raven/Mystique the usually blonde ingenue, and Angel, the dark-haired former-stripper-turned-DarkActionGirl.

* Literature/AnnaKarenina: Kitty and Anna are at first friends, with Kitty being younger and a great admirer of Anna's beauty and personality. They also both love Count Vronsky who courted Kitty but fell for Anna. Anna is a beauty who ends up being an adulteress while Kitty is a pretty girl who ends up in a happy marriage.
* The two leading ladies in Nathaniel Hawthorne's Literature/TheBlithedaleRomance. Priscilla is the demure, fragile, domestic (read: conservative) Light Feminine; Zenobia is the mysterious, sensual, outspoken, transcendental feminist (read: liberal) Dark Feminine.
* Literature/TheChroniclesOfDorsa: Tasia is a RebelliousPrincess who's fairly naive starting out, shows emotions and has a conventionally feminine style. Joslyn on the other hand is an experienced soldier, initially represses emotions and she's more masculine in her style.
* Ellony Leckery and Pharinet Palindrake in Literature/ChroniclesOfMagravandias, Ellony being a straight example of TheIngenue while Pharinet is something of a Yandere when pushed. Other female characters in the story, particularly those who Foil fill similar roles or are related to them or are named for them are more balanced between the two extremes.
* In "De skandalösa" by Creator/SimonaAhrnstedt, Magdalena Swärd (the story's female protagonist) ends up being a spicier contrast to Venus Dag och Natt, the girl who Gabriel (the story's male protagonist) has pretty much promised his mother that he will marry. Magdalena is the intelligent, brooding, cynical, and more mature woman, who is not afraid to have sex with Gabriel to get what she wants (dark feminine). Venus is much more sweet-natured, beautiful, docile, and slightly naive (then again, she might be a bit naive simply because she's only sixteen years old) (light feminine).
* In Literature/Dragonlance, Kitiara is the dark one, a cross between a BloodKnight and a FemmeFatale; Laurana is the light one, a sweet royal turned PrettyPrincessPowerhouse.
* Literature/GoneWithTheWind: Melanie is the sweet and demure Light Feminine, Scarlett is the more flirtatious and ambitious Dark Feminine.
* Virginal, timid, and highborn Rowena with the strong, fiery Jewish Rebecca from Literature/Ivanhoe.
* The Jack Weyland book Literature/MichelleAndDebra has the obedient Michelle as the light and her rebellious best friend Debra as the dark.
%%* Antonia and Matilda in Literature/TheMonk, as highlighted by Ambrosio's interest in both of them, their similar appearance, and the roles each of them play in the story.
* Literature/TheNeapolitanNovels: The two protagonists. Elena is a demure, dutiful, and well-mannered blonde (Light). Lila is a naughty, rebellious, and impulsive brunette (Dark). Ironically, Elena has more boyfriends and sexual experience than Lila (both at young and adult age), while Lila only dated three guys in her entire life, while also rejecting sexual contact for a long time.
* Literature/NightWorld features witch cousins Thea and Blaise, who are light and dark, respectively; Thea is said to be the 'day' to Blaise's 'night'. Thea is compassionate, nurturing, sensible, and modest. Blaise is seductive, carefree, vain, and troublemaking. This is reflected in the goddesses they tend to be associated with; Thea feels close to Eileithyia, a benevolent goddess of motherhood and healing, while Blaise is often compared with Aphrodite, the unpredictable goddess of love and beauty. Both can be protective of those they love, but in different ways; Thea aspires to be a healer and is willing to risk her own well-being to shield others; Blaise is more focused on vengeance and manipulation. Even their appearances reflect this; Blaise is dark-haired and favors darker or bolder colors, Thea is blonde and prefers lighter or more subdued colors.
* Literature/OfFireAndStars: Denneleia is a NiceGirl who wants to help others and she's more innocent. Mare, a rebellious tomboy, isn't very friendly starting out and she's much worldlier.
* Literature/ThePhantomTollbooth introduces the twin princesses of Sweet Rhyme and Pure Reason. Rhyme is golden-haired and always on the verge of laughter; Reason is dark-haired, thoughtful, and serious. Both are necessary to bring peace to the kingdom.
* Literature/PracticalMagic has motherly Sally (light) and seductive Gillian (dark). That goes double for the movie adaptation. In fact, a quote in the book used to describe them sums up this trope quite nicely:
-->Night and Day, the aunts called them, and although neither girl laughed at this little joke they recognized the truth in it, and were able to understand that the moon is always jealous of the heat of the day, just as the sun always longs for something dark and deep.
* Literature/PrideAndPrejudice has the AllLovingHero Jane Bennett (light feminine) and her DeadpanSnarker sister Elizabeth (dark feminine).
* This trope used in reverse is significant in Literature/TheSchoolForGoodAndEvil. Blonde, pink dress-wearing, fairy tale-obsessed Sophie and sullen, black-wearing, morbid Agatha appear to everyone as a cut and dry Light and Dark respectively, but Sophie is vain, selfish, and seductive while Agatha is gentle, considerate, and loyal.
* Literature/SenseAndSensibility has ThinksLikeARomanceNovel Marianne Dashwood (light feminine) and her more realist sister Elinor (dark feminine).
* Odile and Odette, despite being associated respectively with a black swan and a white swan, have the personality shades reversed in Literature/TheSorcerersDaughter. Odile is sweet, childlike, and friendly, while Odette is stern, brooding, and proud to the point of haughtiness.
* Literature/Tasakeru: Hanami is the Light Feminine, proper, timid, and girlish... while Faun is a confident, sexy trickster.
* Literature/TheTwilightSagas adoptive sisters Alice and Rosalie. Alice is happy in nature. She adores Bella from the start and cares about Bella's safety above anything. Rosalie is proud of her great beauty. She is initially annoyed by Bella's presence but she is the most respectful of Bella's choices.
* Lissa Dragomir and Rose Hathaway from Literature/VampireAcademy. Rose is the seductive, temperamental, and violent of the duo while Lissa is the more light-hearted, even-tempered, and angelic-looking of the two.

* Alvaro Véliz's songs "Ni tú ni ella" ("Neither you nor her") are about a guy who can't choose between two loves. The girl he's "singing" to is the Light Feminine -- sweet, gentle, kind, whom he cares for dearly. The other girl he's referring to in the lyrics is the Dark Feminine -- a sensual and passionate BlitheSpirit able to bring out his wilder side.

* In apocryphal Abrahamic mythology, Myth/Lilith (the first wife of Adam, who refused to submit) represents the Dark Feminine -- while Eve (Adam's second wife) is the Light Feminine.

* At Ring Warriors Bombshells and Jingle Bells, the overly kind, sweet and hyperactive Wrestling/SuYung (Light) and the confrontational, temperamental and cocky Amazona (Dark) are equally enthused about teaming with each other to take down the Canadian brutes Silver and Gold. Su's ring gear was traditional in form but otherwise overly feminine in design, being colored bright purple and stamped with heart symbols. Amazona's was less orthodox, including a headband in addition to being all black save her feathers, which were merely dark brown, but was still distinctly feminine, including a skirt. Su and Amazona would remain friends, with Yung becoming known for physical but innocuous displays of affection, whereas Amazona would spank people.
* The ninth LLF tag team champions "La Chica Celestial" Angelica and "La Guerrera Sensual" Amazona(no relation to the above). They're both warriors, being a parejatag team, but Angelica doesn't resort to squeezing heads or throats with her thighs, to say nothing of Amazona's cabezazo, which is basically a spread leg headbutt to the crotch. Visually, Angelica wears noticeable "beauty" makeup but also wears a mask in lucha libre tradition, and her gear is adorned with religious symbols to invoke her namesake and RedBaron. Amazona shows her face for all to see and usually wears black mixed martial arts gear when she isn't in a bodysuit she neglected Fanservice to zip all the way up.
* In TNA we have Wrestling/Rosemary and Allie. Rosemary is a gothic zombie hybrid creature who speaks in plurals and refers to herself as "The Demon Assassin", with dark theme music and frightening skull or death-themed face paint. Allie is a bubbly blonde happy-go-lucky girl, initially played as a straight-up ditz in TNA. On the independent circuit, Allie as Cherry Bomb was the (light) KnowNothingKnowItAll ProperLady heel and Rosemary as Courtney Rush was the(dark) extroverted but socially inept and reckless face, whom Cherry Bomb triggered the birth of Rosemary in by traumatizing Rush. But they were an inseparable pair in TNA/Impact after Rosemary saved Allie from a beat down because the voices in her head told her to protect Allie, the innocent bunny surrounded by danger. They have become known collectively as Demon X Bunny, and have their own custom merch reflecting their Dark & Light unlikely friendship. The trope was subverted in May 2018 when Rosemary was written off TV to rehab an ACL tear. Allie in her absence has become seemingly possessed by Rosemary's darkness and seeks revenge on Wrestling/SuYung, who put Rosemary out of action.
* The team of Wrestling/AlexaBliss and Wrestling/NikkiCross fit this trope, though Alexa is usually in a traditional sexy-girl heel role while Cross is more in a comedic heel. Alexa usually wears outfits that range from Franchise/Disney princesses to Harley Quinn cosplay while Cross has become a dress-all-in-black tomboy.

* Roleplay/DawnOfANewAgeOldportBlues has best friends Vivian and Lenore. Vivian is nervous but lovably awkward and upbeat, whereas Lenore is a RebelliousSpirit with a goth-punk aesthetic.

* In Theatre/AvenueQ, Princeton gets romantically entangled with kindergarten teacher Kate (light feminine) and prostitute Lucy T. Slut (dark feminine).
* In Theatre/LaBoheme, InnocentFlowerGirl Mimi is the Light Feminine, and flirtatious FemmeFatale Musetta is the Dark Feminine.
* Theatre/Carmen: Don José's love interests consist of his innocent and devoted GirlNextDoor Micaëla and the free-spirited seductress Carmen.
* Theatre/AGentlemansGuideToLoveAndMurder has the virtuous InnocentSoprano Phoebe in blue (light feminine), and the flirtatious, ambitious Sibella in pink (dark feminine).
-->Monty: Look at Phoebe!\
Noble and pious,\
my esteem for her only grows.\
But, when I am with Phoebe,\
I am on fire thinking of\
Sibella!\

Perfect and lovely!\
Who couldn't love her?\
Heaven knows!\
'Round and 'round and 'round\
It goes!
* In Theatre/Grease, HairOfGoldHeartOfGold Sandy is the Light Feminine while sensual, rebellious Rizzo is the Dark Feminine.
* Theatre/Iolanta: the naive, pure, and angelic Iolanta and the passionate and seductive Matilda.
* Theatre/JekyllAndHyde has Dr. Jekyll's sweet fiancee Emma Carew (light feminine), and Hyde's HookerWithAHeartOfGold girlfriend Lucy (dark feminine).
* Film/LordOfTheDance1997, features Morrighan, the temptress and Saoirse, the good spirit.
* In Theatre/MuchAdoAboutNothing, cousins Hero and Beatrice are best friends, almost like sisters. Hero is sweet and loving, courteous, and sunny. Beatrice is, by contrast, a great deal sharper and more outspoken and cynical.
* Theatre/NatashaPierreAndTheGreatCometOf1812: The InnocentSoprano Natasha who is dressed in white (light feminine), and the seductive AltoVillainess Helene who is dressed in green (dark feminine).
* In Theatre/SheLovesMe, InnocentSoprano Amalia is the Light Feminine while been-around-the-block Ilona is the Dark Feminine.
* Theatre/SwanLake features the stark contrast of Odette, the innocent, pure, and shy White Swan, and Odile, the Black Swan, who is bold, dark, and seductive.
* In Theatre/TheThreepennyOpera, Creator/BertoltBrecht's adaptation of Theatre/TheBeggarsOpera, Mack the Knife has an InnocentSoprano fiancee, Polly (light), and a decidedly less innocent first wife, Lucy (dark).
* In Theatre/WestSideStory, InnocentSoprano Maria is the Light Feminine while her brother's girlfriend, the sexy spitfire Anita, is the Dark Feminine.
* In Theatre/Wicked, Glinda the Good is blonde, perky, and wears a variety of bright-colored dresses throughout the show. By contrast, Elphaba a.k.a. The Wicked Witch of the West is a BrainyBrunette and DeadpanSnarker who wears dark colors for most of the show (the times she is not being due to Glinda's influence). Played with as Elphaba is passionate about social justice and always strives to help the underdog, while Glinda can be duplicitous just to remain in people's good graces.
* In Theatre/WonderfulTown, elder sister Ruth is a BrainyBrunette and DeadpanSnarker who aspires to be a reporter (dark), while her younger sister Eileen is an InnocentSoprano who ThinksLikeARomanceNovel and aspires to be an actress (light).

* Toys/EverAfterHigh’s co-protagonists, bubbly and idealistic but high-strung PrincessClassic Apple White and mature and down-to-earth but conflicted CulturalRebel Raven Queen.
* Toys/MonsterHigh plays the trope straight but inverts the colour-coding. GenkiGirl VegetarianVampire Draculaura (Light Feminine) dresses mostly in black clothing, and LovableAlphaBitch Cleo (Dark Feminine) wears a lot of glittery gold... and is deathly afraid of the dark.

* Kanae and Marilyn Sue from VideoGame/AkatsukiBlitzkampf. Light Feminine Kanae is a serious, dedicated, and aloof ActionGirl from the Japanese Army, who keeps her hair short and wears a form-fitting but mostly practical uniform as she grapples and tosses around her way into the plot; Dark Feminine Marilyn Sue is a bouncy DarkActionGirl in an even more form-fitting UsefulNotes/qipao, who fights like a LadyOfWar and relies quite a bit in her sex appeal to take her rivals off-guard.
* VideoGame/ArTonelicoIIMelodyOfMetafalica has this dynamic with Light Feminine Cloche (a bossy long-haired blonde wearing a FeatherMotif dress) and Dark Feminine Jacqli (a long dark-haired antisocial girl DressedLikeADominatrix).
* VideoGame/Catherine: Catherine is a sexy, beautiful, skimpy-clothed seductress who perfectly plays the Dark Feminine role, while Katherine is the Light Feminine by being the protagonist's ChildhoodFriend who mixes Meganekko and DefrostingIceQueen. [[spoiler: It's eventually justified: Catherine is a succubus sent to seduce men who won't get married in order to "weed out" the unfruitful couples, as part of a scheme by Mutton.]]
* VideoGame/Darkstalkers: Felicia, the childish cat monster raised by nuns would be the Light, and Morrigan, the rebellious hedonistic succubus would be the Dark. Both are MsFanservice but Felicia simply doesn't need clothing, Morrigan is a fashionista that's purposely seductive.
* In VideoGame/DevilishHairdresser, the Devilish Hairdresser is a goth with blood-red hair wearing mostly black, with a skull belt and high boots (Dark Feminine), while the Angelic Hairdresser is a blonde with a gold halo, a pink dress, and magenta Mary-Janes (Light Feminine).
* Franchise/DragonAge:
** VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins: Played with. Leliana, the quasi-nun and moral center of the group, is the Light Feminine, while Morrigan, the mysterious and cunning witch, is the Dark Feminine. While Leliana's idealism is genuine, she turns out to be atoning for her past as a spy/assassin, while Morrigan can come to see the Warden as the OnlyFriend she's ever had and shows ignorance to basic human interaction and sensibilities.
** A straighter example of this trope is in the sequel VideoGame/DragonAgeII with naive, duty-bound, and responsible Merrill (light) and worldly, hedonistic, and carefree Isabela (dark).
* VideoGame/FinalFantasyX: For the first half of the game, the only two female party members are Yuna and Lulu. As TheIngenue, Yuna is the Light Feminine: she wears mostly white and purple, is optimistic and somewhat naive due to her sheltered upbringing as a future summoner. She is also a bit reserved and innocent, often speaking in a gentle tone and getting easily flustered by the teasing from the other squadmates. Lulu is the Dark Feminine: a LadyOfBlackMagic, she wears an all black outfit that combines TooManyBelts with a plunging cleavage revealing neckline. While she is often MrExposition, explaining the world of Spira to Tidus, outside of those moments, she walks with an aloof air and expresses quite a bit of cynicism. As Yuna's guardian from long ago, she also has a motherly protectiveness over Yuna that extends to Tidus once she warms up to him. GenkiGirl Rikku joining the team later, changes this dynamic into more of a TheThreeFacesOfEve set-up, with Yuna as the Wife (calm, supportive, inviting), Lulu as the Seductress (mysterious, sexy), and Rikku as the Child (playful, prone to emotional outbursts).
* Franchise/FireEmblem:
** VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening has Olivia (sweet and quite awkward ShrinkingViolet) and Maribelle (sophisticated ojou with a CovertPervert side). Rather curiously, Light Feminine Olivia dresses in a very stripperiffic way, while Dark Feminine Maribelle wears far more conservative clothes. Olivia also fits in these dynamics with Panne (a shapeshifting HairRaisingHare and DefrostingIceQueen, whose own stripperiffic clothes are made by a light breastplate and FurBikini)
** VideoGame/FireEmblemFates has the Princesses of Nohr, Camilla and Elise. Dark Feminine Camilla is a MsFanservice with massive breasts, Stripperiffic attire, and a MagicKnight-like fighting style, whereas Light Feminine Elise is a GenkiGirl with pigtails and WhiteMage abilities.
* VideoGame/GalaxyAngelII has this dynamic between Kahlua and Tequila (who are technically the same person). Kahlua is the Light, being soft-spoken, kind, and generous, if a bit slow on the uptake, while Tequila is the Dark, more assertive, confident, and a tease.
* VideoGame/GarouMarkOfTheWolves gives us BadassAdorable Hotaru Futaba as Light and GoodBadGirl Bonne Jenet as Dark.
* VideoGame/GenshinImpact:
** Barbara and Rosaria are pretty much the perfect example of this dynamic. Barabara is a sweet, innocent WhiteMage who is loved by everyone in Mondstadt and has GirlishPigtails and a predominantly white frilly outfit, while Rosaria is cold and cynical towards just about everyone, which is reflected in her mostly dark-colored outfit and fishnet stockings that complement her nature as a sexy and dark MsFanservice. This dynamic is on full display whenever they interact; Rosaria wants nothing to do with Barbara, but Barbara still treats her with the same level of kindness that she shows to everyone else.
** Inazuma has the two opposing (at least initially) generals; the delicate-looking, peaceful but intelligent Divine Priestess Sangonomiya Kokomi and the ruthless, headstrong AntiHero Kujou Sara.
* A similar setup from the same developers occurs in VideoGame/JadeEmpire, with Silk Fox as dark opposite Dawn Star's light.
* VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters:
** King is a TeamMom Bifauxnen. Mai Shiranui is a Stripperiffic HighlyVisibleNinja. They manage to fill under TomboyAndGirlyGirl (King is the tomboy, Mai is the girly girl) and as this trope (King is Light, Mai is Dark). Yuri is the tomboy to both of them.
** Ángel and Isolde are (or were, in the latter's case) both white-haired women with origins linked to NESTS and with a close bond with a 9999th clone created by the cartel (for Ángel, K9999, and for Isolde, Nameless) -- but while Ángel Stripperiffic dresses in an extremely skimpy black and blue outfit and acts rather crude towards most people even after her defection, Isolde wore a modest EtherealWhiteDress and is willing to help her beloved even beyond death.
** In the KOF RadioDrama The Sun and the Moon, the Tanima sisters are this: older sister Konoe is the BrokenBird Dark while younger sister Kikuri is the ill girl Light. They both love Iori Yagami in their own ways (Konoe is a Tsundere to him while Kikuri is the Gentle Girl to his Brooding Boy), but they're not exactly rivals as they're each other's only relatives, are very close, and Konoe has taken care of Kikuri for years anyway. [[spoiler: Neither becomes Iori's girlfriend because Iori leaves the girls to protect them from himself. Oh, and Kikuri dies.]]
* Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda:
** VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess: Kind and benevolent Zelda is Light, while playful and snarky Midna is Dark.
** VideoGame/HyruleWarriors also plays this between spunky sorceress Lana and evil witch Cia, though this is complicated by how .
* The Florian Sisters of VideoGame/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAsPortable: The Gears of Destiny. The caring IdiotHero of a big sister Amita serves as the Light Feminine, while the coy, flirty, and cynical little sister Kyrie serves as the Dark Feminine.
* The two female love interests in VideoGame/MassEffect1 are Liara (young, naïve, virginal academic) and Ashley (gun-toting, suspicious of aliens, snarky soldier) largely follow the trope. The expanding cast and changing personalities prevent this from applying to the latter two games, however.
* VideoGame/MonsterMadness: Jennifer and Carrie, the two female player characters. Jennifer is a cheerleader who wears pink, and Carrie a goth girl who wears dark colors. They both dress femininely, wearing shirts that expose the tops of their shoulders and their midriffs, Carrie wearing a long skirt, and Jennifer wearing heels.
* In VideoGame/OctopathTraveler, protagonists Ophilia and Primrose can fight alongside each other. Ophilia is the insecure, compassionate Archbishop's daughter; Primrose is a confident HookerWithAHeartOfGold who can, quote-unquote, "allure" people into helping her out. In the scattered circle of party members on the world map, Foil they're opposite to each other. In a more literal case, Ophilia is the party's default light magic user, while Primrose is the default dark magic user.
* VideoGame/Overlord: The potential queens fall into this. In the second game, the first two mistresses fall into TomboyAndGirlyGirl -- but also serve as a collective "Light Feminine" to the third.
* Bede and Marnie, the rival characters from VideoGame/PokemonSwordAndShield. A subverted example since Bede is a boy, though androgynous. [[spoiler: By the end of the game's story, Bede inherits Fairy type Gym Leader position from his mentor, Opal. His team consists of cutesy Fairy and Psychic type Pokemon, thus the Light Feminine. While Marnie, who uses Dark and Poison type Pokemon, is the Dark Feminine. She also later replaces her brother as the new Dark type Gym Leader.]]
* VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiI has Yuki (Light) and Yuriko (Dark)
* VideoGame/TheSims2 introduces twin teenage sisters Angela and Lilith Pleasant. Angela is a well-behaved ace student beloved by her parents, while Lilith is a rebellious teenager and TheUnfavorite of the family. They have a comeback in VideoGame/TheSims4, this time as young adults going through college.
* Franchise/Splatoon:
** In VideoGame/Splatoon1, there is Callie (Light) and Marie (Dark). Callie is the black and pink Inkling who acts bubbly and kind. Marie is the white and green Inkling who acts stoic and snarky.
** Played with Off the Hook in VideoGame/Splatoon2. Pearl is short, cute, and has light colors, but is often short-tempered and imperious (but is also a lot nicer off-camera). By contrast, Marine is tall, sexy, and an Octoling weapons engineer, but is also a very caring young woman who happens to be a Shoujo artist.
* Chun Li and Juri Han from VideoGame/StreetFighterIV are both Kick Chicks, but Chun Li is an ActionGirl who's very firmly on the side of good, while Juri is a mix of FetishizedAbuser and DarkActionGirl.
%% Zero-context.* Franchise/TouhouProject: Reimu vs. Marisa, rivals. Satori vs. Koishi, sisters. Keine vs. Mokou, very close friends. The Aki sisters.

%%* AoiShiro: Nami (Light) vs. Kohaku (Dark - she's not even very feminine), former lovers (or something to that effect).
%%* AkaiIto: Yumei (Light) vs. Nozomi (Dark), archenemies. Both of them are very feminine.
* In VisualNovel/DoubleHomework, the Johanna (light feminine) has lighter hair and clothing colors and a perky attitude to match. Tamara (dark feminine) has darker hair, dresses in all black, and has a largely cynical worldview.
* In [=ClockUp=]'s Euphoria, we have Nemu and Kanae, especially when taking into account how Takato sees them. Nemu is a reflection of his dark personality and sadism and wants him to drown in his own desires. Kanae represents innocence and naive happiness and is that how Takato wishes everything to end, even with Nemu keeping pushing his buttons.
* Lilly Satou and Shizune Hakamichi from VisualNovel/KatawaShoujo. Lilly is a serene, kind, YamatoNadeshiko-ish TeamMom who more often than not dresses rather conservatively (save for her pajamas), whereas Shizune is a bossy and straightforward MsFanservice who's very aware of her good looks and is very uninhibited in her sex scenes. [[spoiler: Though Lilly turns out to be also kinda kinky if she's pursued as a love interest.]]
* Royal sisters Amara and Ga'ran Sigatur Khura'in in VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorneySpiritOfJustice. Amara has white-blonde hair, a calm, benevolent presence, and is a FriendToAllLivingThings. Ga'ran has dark hair, a far more revealing outfit, and inspires equal parts fear and devotion in her subjects.
* Out of the LoveInterests in VisualNovel/TrueLoveJunaiMonogatari, Remi Himekawa and Mayumi Kamijou play it straight. Remi is a sweet and straightlaced CuteBookworm who's seen as a borderline "unapproachable" at first by the PlayerCharacter, whereas Mayumi is the tsundere GoodBadGirl who dresses sexily and approaches the PC without fear or excuses.
* VisualNovel/UminekoWhenTheyCry has kind, motherly Meido Shannon and decadent, sadistic Beatrice. .

* WebAnimation/DSBTInsaniT: Portica is the Light Feminine, and Killdra is the Dark Feminine. Both of them are less than fond of each other, and are prone to getting into arguments, even in the middle of a battle with an enemy.
** Portica is still a bit of a tomboy, but she is also into jewelry, outfits, and isn't above gossiping. She doesn't really like Killdra because she thinks Killdra is creepy and weird.
** Killdra acts very dull and sarcastic but she still has a girly side to her, like squeeing about music. She doesn't really like Portica because she thinks Portica is pompous and judgmental.
* WebAnimation/Dreamscape: Anjren is the Light Feminine and Keela is the Dark Feminine. They don't quite see eye-to-eye, but they don't outright dislike each other either.
** Anjren is a TomboyWithAGirlyStreak who can get really excited and pumped up about things.
** Keela is a quiet EmotionlessGirl, but she doesn't have any outright tomboyish traits.
* In Season 4 of WebAnimation/TheMostPopularGirlsInSchool, we have Mackenzie (who dresses in red and pink to show that she's more controlled than her friend) and Brittnay (who dresses in all black during her Mercenary Cheerleader stint).

* Webcomic/DreamingFreedom: Played with with Jeongmin and Juhyeon. Jeongmin wears dark clothes and has black hair, while Juhyeon has white hair and prefers lighter clothes. It’s played with in that Juhyeon is a vicious bully, and while Jeongmin is our protagonist, is a far cry from a saint herself.
* Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers:
** The two sisters Ukraine and Belarus. Ukraine, a NaiveEverygirl of a TeamMom is the Light, while Belarus, the StalkerWithACrush Yandere who dresses as an ElegantGothicLolita is the Dark. They're also the extremely rare example in which the duo crosses into TomboyAndGirlyGirl as well: Ukraine is sweet and gentle but she dresses like a boy and has BoyishShortHair, whereas Belarus is stubborn and Yandere-like but looks very dainty in her ElegantGothicLolita dress.
** Among the Nyotalia ladies, Female!England (GirlishPigtails, Meganekko, depicted in a nurse uniform) is the Light to the Dark of Female!France (Ojou, with a bottle of good wine in her hand, wears classy dresses). Similarly, Female!Japan (YamatoNadeshiko with a kimono and hakama) and Female!America (Stripperiffic PluckyGirl with a rather smart mouth) have similar looks.
* Webcomic/Homestuck:
** The two girls among the beta kids follow this dynamic: the adorable, fun-loving, and girly Jade is the Light Feminine to the sophisticated and flirtatious Rose's Dark Feminine. It's even reflected by their dreamselves: Jane dreams in the Light Kingdom of Prospit and consults with the clouds of Skaia, while Rose dreams in the Dark Kingdom of Derse and consults with the Horrorterrors.
** [[spoiler:Post-Scratch]], Jane and Roxy are also this. The milquetoast, traditionally feminine Jane is the Light Feminine (WholesomeCrossdresser tendencies notwithstanding) to the roguish, devious Roxy's Dark Feminine. Once again, Jane is a Prospit dreamer and Roxy is a Derse dreamer.
** The dancestor pair of Aradia and Damara is this in a sense. Despite her dark and twisted tastes, Aradia is straightforward, full of love for everyone, and just loves when everybody gets along and has fun. Damara, on the other hand, is a cynical, Jerkass mean-spirited DragonLady who gets a kick out of making extremely lewd and insulting remarks about everyone around her. Just compare their design.
%%* Webcomic/OffWhite: The black and white human spirits are this.
* Webcomic/Rebirth: Parish is the light feminine, with golden hair and light color scheme, to Lena's dark feminine, with lavender hair and darker clothes. Ironically, Parish is a BitchInSheepsClothing who ignores one of her own children and while Lena is quite sweet and a good mother to her daughter.
* Medea and Psyche from Webcomic/YourThrone. Medea is stoic, cunning, jaded, and has dark purple hair and wears black and purple, in contrast with sweet, naive, and empathetic Psyche, who is blonde and associated with white and gold.

* WebVideo/CreamHeroes: The shy, sensitive Chuchu is the Light to sassy diva Lala's Dark. Of the more maternal female cats, the loving and sociable Nana is the Light while the aloof and stoic TT is the Dark.
* WebVideo/NintendoHigh: Sweet and innocent ClassPrincess Peach is the Light Feminine, while haughty and manipulative AlphaBitch Pauline is the Dark Feminine.

* In WesternAnimation/AdventureTime, Princess Bubblegum is pink and tries to uphold a sugary persona befitting the ruler of the Candy Kingdom (Light). Marceline the Vampire Queen meanwhile revels in her reputation as a mischievous punk rocker (Dark).
* In WesternAnimation/AlbertTheFifthMusketeer, Queen Anne is sweet-natured and amiable (Light Feminine), as contrast to the seductive villainess Milady De Winter (Dark Feminine).
* WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender: Ty Lee (Light) and Mai (Dark) - Ty Lee is bubbly and approachable, has big eyes, and wears pink; Mai is aloof and snarky, has RavenHairIvorySkin, and wears red.
* Most episodes of WesternAnimation/Ewoks, feature both princess Kneesaa and her best friend Latara. They're literally light and dark; and personality-wise, one is ridiculously innocent most of the time, all about sharing and caring, while the other starts out as a melancholic starving artist type and turns out to be a manipulative prima donna in the second season, after CharacterExaggeration.
* WesternAnimation/GravityFalls: Mabel (Light) and Pacifica (Dark).
* WesternAnimation/HiHiPuffyAmiYumi: bubbly, pink-haired Ami is the Light Feminine, while sarcastic, blue-haired Yumi is the Dark Feminine.
* The titular WesternAnimation/KimPossible is a model student-athlete, a loyal friend, and has a little side gig saving the world from evil (Light). Shego serves the BigBad Drakken, is the biggest DeadpanSnarker in the series, and has long black hair (Dark).
* WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse: Among the two eldest Loud sisters, Leni Loud is the KindheartedSimpleton Light Feminine, and Lori Loud is the BigSisterBully Dark Feminine.
* WesternAnimation/TheMagicSchoolBus has Phoebe Terese, the animal-loving NiceGirl, as the Light Feminine and Keesha Franklin, the bossy AgentScully, as the Dark Feminine.
* Two female characters from WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug fulfill this role: the sweet, girly, pink-wearing and extroverted Rose and her best friend or something more, the gothic, quiet, and introverted (but still kindhearted) Juleka.
* In WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic, there is Celestia (Light) and Luna (Dark) who are two alicorn princesses with a lot of their contrast with each other to do with this trope. Celestia is an utterly BenevolentBoss, compassionate, and too forgiving for her own good, and her job is ruling the sun, day, and light. The only times when she actually gets angry come into TranquilFury. Luna is the outgoing, self-confident ruler of the moon, night, and darkness. Nevertheless, she can be aggressive with UnstoppableRage and is the only member of royalty who has ever lost her temper.
* Susie from WesternAnimation/Rugrats, who fulfills the big sister role, is the Light Feminine to SpoiledBrat Angelica's Dark Feminine.
* WesternAnimation/TeenTitans2003: Starfire is bubbly and naive (Light Feminine), while her sister Blackfire is a cunning, seductive criminal (Dark Feminine), who also happens to look just like Starfire but with darker colored hair and clothing and narrower eyes. Within the Titans, Starfire contrasts as the Light to Raven's Dark, with the latter being generally much more serious and seeks calm in her leisure time; the season one episode "Switched" did a FreakyFridayFlip between them in order to draw out the differences in their powers (Starfire's are powered by emotion to function, while Raven's are always at risk of running out of control if she doesn't reign hers in) and the subsequent effects on their contrasting personalities.
%% * WesternAnimation/TotalDrama:
%% ** Heather is the Dark Feminine to Lindsay's Light Feminine.
%% ** Zoey is the Light Feminine to Anne Maria's Dark Feminine.
%% ** Samey is the Light Feminine to Amy's Dark Feminine.
