4->"It's likely that no amount of practice will allow you to hurl fireballs just by crouching, moving towards someone and then punching the air. Still, if you do run across an opponent who's dressed in a gi (with sleeves that appear to have been ripped off in savage fury), it's probably best to steer clear of them."

6
7
8A scene in which a martial artist warns an antagonist that he knows martial arts before kicking the guy's ass. Bonus points for the martial artist assuming an outlandish AssKickingPose beforehand. The antagonist will always laugh off the warnings and be defeated in a humiliating fashion. If the martial artist's skills turn out not to be effective, it's probably an example of IKnowKungFaux. These scenes were popular when martial arts films started getting attention in the west. The martial artist will almost always study an Asian style, but the trope can still hold true with any named system of self-defence.
9
10This trope is the inversion of GoodOldFisticuffs, in which an ArrogantKungFuGuy gets defeated by plain, no-nonsense asskicking (for bonus points, this happens before he's finished boasting).
11
12It's pretty much a DeadHorseTrope now that Asian martial arts films and choreography have reached a saturation point in western culture. Ironically, the trope might have come full circle due to the rising popularity of UsefulNotes/MixedMartialArts over most classic Asian martial arts styles.
13
14You might be looking for SuddenlyAlwaysKnewThat, which used to be called "I Know Kung Fu", or the UsefulNotes article about UsefulNotes/Karate. There's also IKnowMortalKombat, where a person learns Martial Arts (or some other skill) by watching movies or playing video games.

17!!Examples:

19
20
21
22* Subverted in VideoGame/GateKeepers anime: Kageyama Reiji did this complete with throwing his jacket to the air for a good montage, even without the lines. When the jacket drops back on his hand, the thugs seemed to be hurt, until he himself collapsed. Though, .
23* Saikawa claimed that she's won karate competitions when she challenged Kanna in Manga/MissKobayashisDragonMaid. She never got the chance to show it off since the sight of Kanna's fake crying destroyed her Tsundere attitude. She is shown practicing in Kanna's spin-off though.
24* Manga/1999: It's mentioned that Chiba is a martial artist, though for most of the series it's an Informed Attribute we only see when he harasses his friends with kicks and pro wrestling moves. His skills are finally put on display when he uses Karate to rescue Koyuki from a recurring villain and periodically trounces schoolyard bullies. It's even more impressive in the live action movie, when he knocks around a large gang at the skatepark. Most of the fight happens off-screen, but the bullies limp away frantically as Chiba triumphantly cheers, so it can be inferred he's just as tough as he claims to be.
25* Manga/GreatTeacherOnizuka: Said verbatim by Kikuchi to Murai, when Kikuchi wants to give up on making their Onizuka's life hell.
26* In Anime/GundamBuildFightersTry, it's revealed that Sekai's sister, Mirai, learned the Jigen Haou martial arts skills Sekai uses when she was younger. She doesn't use this as much as she's a model who uses her earnings to help care for herself and Sekai, so it comes as a surprise when Mirai pulls out the kung-fu schtick to deliver a painful Shoryuken GroinAttack.
27* Several times in Manga/KyouKaraOreWa, delinquents would tell Mitsuhashi and/or Itou that they know karate, boxing, kendo, etc. They go down before they can show off their skills.
28* Subverted in Manga/GunslingerGirl: Subverted. The girls have their fearsome combat abilities programmed into them as a part of their reconstruction package, but at the increasing cost of their remaining humanity. After her defeat to Pinocchio, Triela gets supplementary training from Italian special forces, as she's become too used to relying on her cybernetic abilities.
29* Anime/HurricanePolymar: In some adaptations, Polymar himself without his suit (despite the lampshading in Ippatsuman's ending) is already a worthy karate master. His suit's powers tend to be a bonus on top of that.
30* During Saikawa's first apperance in Manga/MissKobayashisDragonMaid, she challenges Kanna while boasting that she won a karate tournament in the past, but Kanna's CrocodileTears defuse the situation before she has the chance to show off. Kanna's spin-off also reveals that her claim was slightly less impressive than it sounds. She did get first place in a tournament, but it was for proper form rather than actual combat.
31
32
33
34* ComicBook/Superman:
35** In pre-ComicBook/OnInfiniteEarths comics, it was established that Krypton had martial arts.
36** Villain Faora Hu-Ul knows Horu-Kanu. In ComicBook/TheGreatPhantomPeril she warns Superman about it before proceeding to knock him around pretty effectively.
37** Lois Lane studied the art of Klurkor in the bottle city of Kandor, and got to use it from time to time.
38** ComicBook/Supergirl knows Klurkor in every main continuity. She has also been trained by Franchise/WonderWoman, Franchise/Batman and ComicBook/Batgirl. In ComicBook/WhoIsSuperwoman she warns Reactron she is a Klurkor first level before proceeding to kick his butt.
39** Karate Kid from the ComicBook/LegionOfSuperHeroes comics is the galaxy's master of all known forms of physical combat.
40* ComicBook/Batman:
41** The villain Scarecrow in ComicBook/Knightfall. No, really. It is, of course, crane style. Crane's combat style, at least per other comics from the 90's, was actually a self-taught and designed style, 'violent dancing', based around weaponizing his Crane's namesake crazy dancing from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, part of a popular trend of retconning a lot of Batman villains during those years to have studied hand to hand combat at some point, to explain how they could actually fistfight Batman and last longer than three seconds.
42** ComicBook/DetectiveComicsRebirth: Clayface says this almost verbatim in #952 while fighting League of Shadows goons.
43* ComicBook/SuperMarioAdventures:
44** The Minister of Massage learned his art at "the ancient Mount Fuji karate school."
45** During her jailbreak, the Princess belts out a "HIEEE-YAH!", performing a surprise spin kick (in heels!) on the awestruck Koopa Kids.
46* José Carioca from the ComicBook/DisneyDucksComicUniverse once tried to scare a bunch of criminals by claiming to be a good UsefulNotes/Capoeira fighter, only to learn one of the criminals was a master of that art. He then claimed to know UsefulNotes/Karate and was told another criminal of the bunch was a black belt.
47* Inverted in the Franchise/Tintin album "The Black Island". Tintin is thrown to the floor by one of the bad guys, who tells him "That was jiu-jitsu!". Tintin KO's him with a kick in the chin from the floor, responding "And that's savate!" Savate is both a French style of kickboxing and a word for shoe. You may now start groaning.
48* In ComicBook/Gen13, it was pulled by Grunge on a rather physically unimpressive scientist who had developed a power-nullifying device. After the team spends almost all issue helpless, he hands the scientist his ass in about three panels.
49* Franchise/Transformers: In every continuity of the comic books that he appears in, every time he gets into a fight Bludgeon will always brag about how he knows the forbidden art of Metallikato.
50
51
52
53* The WesternAnimation/KimPossible fan fiction Zen and the Art of Ass-Whupping inverts this, playing out an alternative to one episode in which the large football player is warned that the ninja knows martial arts. The martial artist naturally wins. In the fan fiction, though, it's turned around with the football player being a boxer and succeeding.
54* In Fanfic/GloriousShotgunPrincess:
55** It's exclaimed by Shepard in surprise.
56--->Pria: That's pedestrian street brawling made by peasants. You know Solar Hero Style.
57** The geth have successfully emulated Shepard's martial arts using a combination of Essence and mass effect fields, creating Synthetic Hero Style.
58* Fanfic/SupermanOf2499TheGreatConfrontation has Katherine de Ka'an go to a martial arts instructor in order to shape up and become a better hero.
59* In Fanfic/MarsVsJupiterAsToldByMina, while Lita represents pure power and strength, Raye, on the other hand, has martial arts that she learned from her grandfather.
60* In Fanfic/KaraOfRokyn, the titular character is extensively trained by martial arts master Lady Shiva.
61* FanFic/TotalDramaLegacy: In "A Dark and Storm-y Night", when the Modern Mandrills get to a hall with two doors guarded by Crimson and Ennui, Skave and Keith say this:
62-->Skave: We know karate...\
63-Keith: And we're not afraid to use it!
64
65
66
67* Subverted in The Return of Sherlock Holmes: Holmes warns the bruiser, "I know judo." The bruiser knows karate -- and knows it better than Holmes does judo.
68* Subverted in Film/ImGonnaGitYouSucka when the group's martial arts expert is surrounded by cops he says something along the lines of "You dare to challenge me? A master of karate, kung fu, jujitsu and all this other shit you've never heard of? Ha ha ha!" The cops respond by opening fire on him. And again later, when one of the heroes and bad guys square off against one another minus their guns, one of them hesitates and says, "I don't know any kung fu!" "Neither do I," says the other. "Want to fake it?" They then do just that.
69* In Film/TheMatrix, just after he's had the relevant knowledge uploaded into his brain, Neo informs Morpheus:
70-->"I know kung-fu!"
71* Parodied and subverted in Film/RomeoMustDie when big black gangster Maurice corners small Chinese man Han. Maurice does the crane stance because "Now, you know you ain't the only one that knows some shit," and Han (or as we call him, Creator/JetLi, the last person in the world who'd be impressed by the crane stance) immediately kicks out Maurice's supporting knee.
72* That guy with the glasses in Film/TheDevilsBrigade, which he apparently wears only so he can have TheGlassesComeOff.
73* Film/ThereGoesTheNeighborhood: When Willis approaches him with the pick ax, Albert lampshades this, but not before pulling out a move in very hilarious fashion.
74* In TheFilmOfTheSeries of Film/WildWildWest, a s attempts to intimidate Creator/WillSmith with a series of moves he "learnt from a Chinaman". Smith then whacks him with a shovel; "I just made that up".
75* This memorable exchange in Film/FoxyBrown:
76-->Bobbie: Listen skinny, before you start talking tough, I'd better warn you I've got a black belt in karate. So why don't you get out of here quietly, while you still got some teeth left in that ugly face?\
77[Foxy knocks her down with a barstool]\
78Foxy Brown: And I've got my black belt in barstools!
79* In the film adaptation of Film/RisingSun, a bouncer warns Creator/SeanConnery that he's a black belt. Connery takes him out with a throat strike. As a bonus, Sean Connery really was a black belt in Karate in real life.
80* Creator/RogerMoore (AsHimself) attempts to threaten a thug like this in Film/TheCannonballRun, saying: "I must warn you, I am Roger Moore" before trying an obviously fake martial arts move much like the ones he was using in his Film/JamesBond movies. It fails to work.
81* In Film/Dutch, an adolescent warns Dutch that he's a "high brown belt," then proceeds to kick his ass. Later, Dutch tries to pit his self-described "all-American streetfighting" against the kid's martial arts and loses again. He does, however, teach the kid how to throw a wicked haymaker.
82* Parodied in Film/OneCrazySummer.
83-->Cassandra: First, you have to get through me.\
84Kent: What do you know? Karate?\
85Cassandra: I know Dow.\
86Kent: Dow? What's Dow?\
87Cassandra: Dow is the chemical company that makes mace.\
88[She pulls out a can of mace and sprays them.]
89* In the original version of Film/GameOfDeath, the Hapkido master (Ji Han Jae) is the only one of the fighters to warn the heroes that fighting with him will result in death. This is very bizarre, as he should know already that they're accomplished martial artists and he's alone and they are a crowd of three.
90--> Ji Han Jae: As you gentlemen know, red means danger. Therefore I advice to you people, not to step into this warning arena. If you want to go on living, stop here, go back downstairs. Life is precious.
91* In Film/TorrenteElBrazoTontoDeLaLey, Malaguita claims to be a film-level martial artist and does some random UsefulNotes/Capoeira stunts to prove it, in reference to Film/OnlyTheStrong.
92* In the 1996 remake of Film/1996, Reggie Warrington, the InsultComic, attempts this on Buddy Love who heckled him one too many times, but Buddy anticipates his pathetic attempts to whip out his "streets skills" and Battles him.
93* Film/Taken:
94-->Bryan Mills: I don't know who you are, and I don't know what you want. If you are looking for a ransom, I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have, are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it: I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, Determinator I will find you, and I will kill you.
95* Film/WhileYouWereSleeping. Lucy's AbhorrentAdmirer claims this when he thinks that another guy is bothering her.
96* Film/DocSavageTheManOfBronze. After Doc Savage wrestles his gun off him, Captain Seas wordlessly challenges our hero to hand-to-hand combat using various fighting styles, each introduced with InSceneTitleText. Doc proves his mastery in Sumo wrestling, Gung Fu, Tai Chichuan, Karate, Bo jijsu, and finally GoodOldFisticuffs.
97* Film/TheyCallMeBruce. A RunningGag with the title character, who actually doesn't know martial arts but likes to pretend otherwise to impress women or fend off muggers.
98-->Bruce: With my right foot, I can knock out that knife. With my left, I can kick your nose. With this hand I can poke out your eyes, with this I can break your neck. Take a good look at my face. I'm an Oriental!
99* Film/TheEigerSanction. Pope brags that he has a black-belt in karate. Hemlock fakes a WhatTheFuAreYouDoing reaction, then punches him in the face.
100* Franchise/StarWars: Film/RevengeOfTheSith: "YouFool I have been trained in your Jedi arts by Count Dooku!" Followed by General Grievous using all four arms to wield four lightsabers at once.
101* Parodied in Film/GetSmart. While arguing with Agent 99 about his readiness for the mission, Maxwell Smart remarks that "I am an expert in the art of Hwa Rang Do." He takes a fighting stance... and 99 punches him in the face.
102-->Max: I was not ready!\
10399: [starts to walk off] That's my point. [turns around and slaps him for good measure]\
104Max: Hey -- what was that?
105* Parodied in Film/EllaEnchanted. Ella tries to intimidate a band of ruffians by warning them that she knows origami.
106-->Ruffian: Paper folding?\
107Ella: Oh. I was hoping you wouldn't know what that was.
108
109
110
111* In Creator/RobertRankin's Armageddon Trilogy, this exact line is said repeatedly by Music/Presley (yes, that Elvis). In the books Elvis constantly makes reference to his character from the movie Roustabout, in which he knew Karate (it goes with the 'sickle).
112** Also, subverted by the phrase "I must warn you that I am an exponent of Dimac, the world's most lethal martial art, and can maim or disfigure you with the mere pressure of a fingertip," because this phrase always causes the opponent to back down. Inevitably.
113** It's worth noting that in real life, Elvis was a first dan black belt and avid practitioner of Kenpo Karate. He later gained an honorary 8th dan black belt.
114* Subverted at one point with Literature/Spenser. He is questioning a female gay rights activist, and the activist bristles when Spenser inevitably goes into SarcasmMode. Her (also female) bodyguard decides the interrogation has gone on long enough and tells Spenser to back off or she'll use her karate to "kick his nuts into his ass". He tells her to come on, then she kicks him in the balls. She is about to attempt using martial arts on him, but Spenser is able to fight through the pain and proceeds to drop her with one punch. After she regains consciousness he instructs her on how a kick to the balls are all well and good, but if the big guy you're fighting has enough of a weight-and-strength advantage over you (and Spenser towered over her), and knows how to fight himself (Spenser really, really does), all the kicks and martial arts in the world will not help you.
115** There's another moment in Stardust when a guy he's interviewing gets pissed, and has his bodyguard put on a wondrous display of karate skill by beating the hell out of a heavy bag, in order to intimidate Spenser into backing down. Spenser pulls out a revolver and shoots the bag.
116* Paul Wilsen (black belt in kung fu) and Ed Summers (teaches karate) in Literature/TheUnexpectedWitness, though Paul doesn't explicitly say he knows kung fu until after the beatdown and Ed Summers is established about halfway through the book as being a karate instructor.
117* Noah in Literature/TsunTsunTzimTzum is a downplayed example. He's taken a variety of martial arts classes and even won a few minor tournaments, but in the WorldOfBadass he finds himself transported to, that's decidedly underwhelming. It does help him in the fights he gets into, but mostly to the extent that it lets him survive long enough for his BattleHarem to rescue him.
118* Mentioned in Literature/TheMagicSchoolBus and the Electric Field Trip. Turns out, Phoebe has karate after school.
119* At on point in the book version of Dave Gorman's Googlewhack, Dave discusses an encounter he had with an American man who boasts about knowing martial arts and then tries to goad Dave into attacking him so he can give a demonstration of his skills. Dave treats the incident as if he came across the world's politest mugger, who wasn't willing to make the first move.
120
121
122
123* In the first episode of season 2 of Series/LincolnHeights, Cassie Sutton completely demolishes a would-be racist attacker, much to the surprise of her boyfriend Charles. Her father taught the whole family defensive tactics after the hellish season 1 the family went through. Oddly enough this is the only time any of the Sutton kids displayed any martial arts abilities despite there being numerous occasions where they are needed.
124* Series/KungFu1972 did this, of course.
125* Series/KnightRider did it at least once. Given how tall David Hasselhoff is, you can imagine just how big the local color had to be to carry this off.
126* In Series/DoctorWho, the Third Doctor was a skilled practitioner of Venusian Aikido and, despite being grey headed and somewhat frail looking, had little difficulty in physical altercations, even when facing off against several opponents.
127** And while we hadn't really seen Doctor keep up their skills in the intervening period, the Eight, Twelfth, and Thirteenth Doctors were also known to use Venusian Aikido. Twelve gets asked about the extra number of arms required to properly practice it.
128---> Nardole: I thought you needed four arms for Venusian.
129--->Doctor: I've got hidden talents, as well as hidden arms
130* Subverted in an episode of Series/Alias in which Creator/QuentinTarantino starred. When Sydney attempts to beat him down with her martial arts skills, Tarantino susses out her style and responds with, "That's the problem with you kickboxers -- none of you can take a punch." And proceeds to knock her silly with her own skillset. She later acknowledges she does need to learn to take a punch ... and kicks him in the head when he's down. (Also an aversion of WouldntHitAGirl.)
131* Parodied and subverted in Series/Friends, where Ross is learning (comically overpronounced) karate. He claims to have supernatural awareness called "unagi" (actually a Japanese freshwater eel) but gets ambushed at the end of the episode.
132* Series/InLivingColor had Damon Wayans' character Anton the bum use this to try to get into the army (for the free food, of course)
133-->Anton: I know Tai-chi! Paw-paw-paw! I know Taikwondo! Paw-paw-paw! And I know Tyrone ... yeah, he taught me all of that.
134* Series/MidsomerMurders: A particularly silly example occurs in "Death in a Chocolate Box". Barnaby and Jones enter a room to find the elderly Lord Holm assaulting a woman. Lord Holm drops in a boxing stance:
135-->Lord Holm: I used to box at Eton!\
136Sgt. Jones: Yeah? I did karate at Causton Comp! (immediately grapples and immobilizes Lord Holm)
137* Series/EmptyNest. Carol is ready to beat up her boyfriend's ex-wife when she catches her trying to seduce him, but the guy warns her, "She's a black belt" (though the martial art is never specified).
138* In Season 4 of Series/StrangerThings, as Joyce and Murray are being flown to Russia by LovableTraitor Yuri, Murray (a goofy ConspiracyTheorist and apparent NonActionGuy who serves primarily as comic relief) assures a doubtful Joyce that he has a black belt and can overpower Yuri. It's very clearly a setup for him to get his ass kicked... and then the fight starts, and [[spoiler: he really is a competent fighter, winning the fight fair and square and knocking Yuri out. Unfortunately, they're still in the air at the time, and neither Joyce nor Murray can fly a plane...]]
139* Series/TheMuppetShow: In one of the two pilots produced early in developmentThe Muppets Valentine Show, Kermit gets into a brawl with an eight-foot-tall mouse. In an aside to the audience, Kermit says he likes his chances because he has never missed an episode of Kung Fu.
140
141
142
143* Music/TenaciousD's "Karate", of course.
144
145
146
147* Sir Rodney from ComicStrip/TheWizardOfId once tried to use this trope by telling a larger attacker that he had a black belt. Turned out the guy had the black suspenders.
148* An early ComicStrip/Garfield strip showed a mailman assuming a karate pose and warning Garfield not to attack him because he knows karate. But Garfield, being a cat, is much too small and moves much too fast for the mailman to land any blows, and bites and claws him repeatedly in a BigBallOfViolence, leaving the postman with AmusingInjuries. The last line of the strip: "And I know fast and furious."
149
150
151
152* It's formulaic in Japanese professional wrestling, which has many martial arts/combat sports influences, that the announcer lists the wrestlers's team or background in a solemn way while introducing them.
153* Part of Panama's Kato Kung Lee gimmick. An even more obvious case was a Wrestling/CMLL luchador who went by the name "Kung Fu". Naturally the two formed a TagTeam. They became El Triangulo Oriental with Wrestling/SatoruSayama, a kick boxer.
154* trope with Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling, which was founded by Atsushi Onita after being turned down by the "shoot" Wrestling/UniversalWrestlingFederation. It was to be his own "shoot" promotion and started with pro wrestlers fighting people of other disciplines but by the time it's first shows had started Onita's target had already changed from UWF to "The Japanese Mainstream" (Wrestling/ewJapanProWrestlingJPW and Wrestling/llJapanProWrestlingJPW), leading FMW to showcase more barbed wire, fire, open electrical hazards and live explosives than martial arts.
155
156
157
158* In the Radio/CabinPressure episode "Helsinki", Carolyn's annoying grandnephew Kieran mentions that one of his hobbies is karate as he starts to make fun of Martin's pathetic life. Once Martin is irritated enough by Kieran's mockery to smack him, Kieran demonstrates that he actually does know karate.
159
160
161
162* In one of Creator/TylerPerry's Madea plays, one character tells Madea that she knows Tae-Bo. Unimpressed, Madea responds "And I know 'whup-your-ass!'"
163
164
165
166* Parodied in VideoGame/SpaceQuestVTheNextMutation when Roger Wilco warns the BigBad "I know Kung Fu, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, and several other Chinese words!"
167* A variant in VideoGame/TheRiddleOfMasterLu, and what would be a tedTropesion if the audience didn't already know, where Robert Ripley basically says "My girlfriend knows karate."
168-->[Shen Guo has Ripley pinned on the ground at gunpoint and is about to finish him off.]\
169Ripley: I think I should warn you, you're not the only one who knows martial arts.\
170Shen Guo: You?\
171Ripley: Heck no! If it were me, you wouldn't be in so much trouble right now.\
172[Mei Chen kicks the gun away from Shen Guo's hand.]
173
174
175
176* Parodied in Webcomic/PennyArcade via WeaselWords. For extra hilarity, the guy he's talking to is Asian.
177-->Gabe: You leave me no choice. Now, I have to do karate to you.\
178Clerk: Do you even know karate?\
179Gabe: I know techniques that have certain elements which have been described -- by some -- as "karate-like".
180* In Webcomic/PokemonMysteryDungeonVictoryFire, Jen, an Audino, kicks a Gengar in the stomach. When Kecleon asks what she was doing, her meek reply is tae kwon do.
181
182
183
184* WesternAnimation/KimPossible is shown to be an martial arts expert--in fact, in one episode, Kim's revealed to know sixteen different styles of kung-fu. And in a later episode, one of the styles of kung-fu that Kim knows is Mantis-style.
185* An episode of WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooWhereAreYou has Shaggy and Scooby trying to bluff a Chinese ghost with the line "I know judo, chop suey, and Chinese checkers!" This being Shaggy and Scooby we're talking about, they later escape from the ghost's henchmen by serving them chocolate chop suey (with liver a la mode).
186* In WesternAnimation/TheAdventuresOfJimmyNeutronBoyGenius, Cindy Vortex is said (and shown) to know a few different types of martial arts (mostly karate)--in one of the later episodes, Cindy was absent for most of it because, according to Libby, she was out of town at a martial arts competition. Judging from the scale of her flips and kicks, Cindy's probably a black belt.
187* In an episode of WesternAnimation/TheFlintstones, Fred tries this line, only for his opponent to go, "Who is that?" before beating him up.
188* Jade in WesternAnimation/JackieChanAdventures threatened a bully with the "ancient art of butt whoop." Considering she's the niece of Jackie Chan, you can guess how this ends up.
189** She gets into trouble for thoroughly beating up the bully, who later comes back asking her to teach him. Instead, she teaches him self-control (something she herself lacks), and he is later shown breaking up a fight.
190* WesternAnimation/GarfieldAndFriends: In one episode, Garfield unwittingly angered a bunch of dogs and tried to discourage them from harming him by telling several lies. One of them was that cats knew karate. It didn't work.
191** WesternAnimation/GarfieldsFelineFantasies featured Garfield fantasizing he was in an adventure movie, including a scene where he and the villain threaten each other:
192--->"Fat Guy": I would like you to meet my associate, Rameet. He doesn't smoke, drink, eat or sleep. He's been trained in the martial arts, you know. Judo, karate, tae kwan do, jujitsu, and machete-eating.\
193Lance Sterling [Garfield]: Big deal. This is my associate, Slobberjob [Odie]. He doesn't think. He's been trained in macrame, bansai, origami, and he's nearly housebroken.
194* WesternAnimation/PunkinPussAndMushmouse: Mushmouse once practiced Judo with a dummy and then tried to fight Punkin Puss and warned him about knowing judo. However, as Punkin Puss explained after defeating Mushmouse, he wasn't a dummy.
195* In the Donkey Kong Jr. segments of WesternAnimation/SaturdaySupercade, when Junior's human partner Bones is cornered by the bad guys he will often claim to know karate in order to try and fight them off; the villains never fall for it and Junior usually saves him before he can do anything.
196* In one episode of WesternAnimation/JohnnyBravo, Johnny goes out with the President's daughter, who later grows tired of Johnny's ignorance of American heritage and calls for two bodyguards to get rid of him. Johnny reacts by stating he's a black belt, but the two guys know at least a dozen forms of martial arts, beat him up, and stuff him in a box under the Pentagon.
197* Trope in WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender when Wan Shi Tong, chasing down Katara and Aang, tells her that ResistanceIsFutile, because he is a master of Southern Water Tribe style, Northern Water Tribe style, and even Foggy Swamp style water bending. And then Sokka falls from above, whalloping him in the head with a heavy book.
198-->Sokka: That's called Sokka Style. Learn it!
199* In WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil, what allows Marco Diaz to keep up with Star Butterfly in her adventures is this trope.
200-->Marco: [to monsters] I'm obligated to warn you, I'm a green belt -- with a stripe!
