->''"...and the boys are too short and you feel like a '''''HIPPOPOTAMUS'''''!!"''
-->-- '''Harriet Welsch''' on why she dislikes dancing school, ''Literature/HarrietTheSpy''

It's hard enough being a puberty-affected teenager, but the Huge Schoolgirl can't really hide the fact she's so much bigger than everyone. If they don't have the flair, this can leave a character gangly and awkward, especially with the [[UsefulNotes/{{Kawaisa}} Japanese obsession with cute, short women]].

This installs an enormous physical complex on the character, despite the near [[GenericCuteness guarantee she'll still be quite pretty]]. Also usually coincides with being the most pectorally developed character. A character who comes to terms with their appearance can become beautiful with enough self-esteem. Without that self-esteem, though, you can wind up with an oversized ShrinkingViolet...a Weeping Willow, if you will.

Although this can affect adult women, this trope is much more obvious in high school aged characters; this girl will be obviously taller than her peers, and usually bustier. Otherwise this character can be a tomboy or a domestic type.

A strangely specific aspect of this trope is the actual ''measurement'', usually 170 centimeters tall (about 5'7"). While this can seem like less of a big deal depending on what country you're from -- the average height for American women ranges from 5'3" to 5'5", using numbers based on self-reported surveys (which contain a lot of heights with shoes on reported), although most medical journals put the average American woman's height at 162 cm or about 5'4", making this trope make more sense. But judging by how many women wear heels, and the dissonance between surveys and medical journals, it seems that tall women are actually seen as desirable -- this measurement is a huge deal in Japan, where the average female height is ''158 cm'' (roughly 5'2"), although some medical journals list it as being as short as 156 cm (roughly 5'1").

Wikipedia has a table listing the average heights of men and women in many different countries. According to that table, the average height for men is consistently 10-15 cm taller (about 4"-6") than that of women from the same country. In Japan, a teenage girl of about 170 cm is roughly as tall as an average sized adult Japanese man. In works where it isn't obvious if someone is a huge schoolgirl because there aren't many adult/teenage female characters to compare her with or in settings where average adult heights differ from those in modern Japan, this should be kept in mind.

Oddly enough, although this trope is often in play in teen dramas, "Hollywood Average" height for women is around 5'6" or 5'7", leading to a bit of a short teen stereotype that's [[RealityIsUnrealistic quite untrue]], as adult height is mostly reached by age 14-15 for boys and 12-13 for girls with at most another inch and a half (but usually an inch or less) to be obtained by age 22 for girls and 25 for boys.

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* Yamame of ''Manga/The100GirlfriendsWhoReallyReallyReallyReallyReallyLoveYou'' is a whole two metres tall, and while she's gardening she's even higher due to the stilts she uses (out of fear of her big feet accidentally stepping on a bug). Naturally, she initially holds quite a bit of HeightAngst, to the point of avoiding kissing Rentarou around the other girls for fear of it looking ridiculous. However, Rentarou assures her he loves her just the way she is, and even arranges for the other girls to stand on stilts and kiss him as well so she doesn't have to feel alone.
* Mizuki of ''Manga/AiOreLoveMe'', as well as her female bandmates, is a tall girl with a boyish look. Ironically, Akira, their male bandmate and Mizuki's boyfriend, is small and was (at least once) described as the only one in the band to actually ''look'' like a girl.
* ''Manga/AirMaster'''s Aikawa Maki (188cm) is quite prominently taller and buffer than most other characters, though this is never commented on.
* Seiichirou Kitano in ''Manga/AngelDensetsu'' is another male version, though in his case he's irrepressibly kind and considerate and utterly unaware of his bad reputation.
* A {{filler}} episode in ''Manga/AngelicLayer'' had Misaki, the small heroine that fears looking weak or losing because of her tiny size, battle a Huge Schoolgirl whose complex led her to a feverish determination to defeat the tiny, cute one.
* Sakaki of ''Manga/AzumangaDaioh'' is 174cm tall and still growing, but she's revealed to be insecure about this and would much prefer to be small and cute like [[TheCutie Chiyo]]. She's also a prime example of the Weeping Willow sub-type; she's so [[ShrinkingViolet shy]] and withdrawn even ''talking'' takes an incredible effort on her part, which ironically reinforces her image as a [[TheStoic cold]], tough {{Delinquent|s}}. At one point when visiting a crowded shrine for New Year's, Tomo declares that if anyone gets lost just gather around Sakaki, who is a head above the entire rest of the crowd.
* In the ''Anime/BlackRockShooter'' OVA, while Yomi Takanashi isn't ''that'' tall, she is a head taller than Mato, and Mato points out their size difference. Yomi also admits to having a complex about her height.
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'':
** Another "out of school but still fitting" character is Lieutenant Isane Koutetsu. She's the tallest female Shinigami at 187 cm tall, which makes her only an inch (2.54cm) shorter than tall male characters like Renji (taller than Renji's captain Byakuya!). A profile in one of the databooks states that when she reached 170 cm, she started to eat rice porridge to keep her from growing, since it has no nutrients. That didn't work out so well. She also has quite an ample bust, and her size makes her a bit embarrassed in the omakes.
** Rangiku Matsumoto is also quite tall. Her official profile states that she's 172 cm, but it's never brought up as an issue with her. Quite the contrary, really; Matsumoto intentionally wears clothes that show off her rather impressive bust line, and the first outfit we see her wearing when she comes to the world of the living is a ''school uniform'' that is about three sizes too small, several layers too tight, the shirt unbuttoned even ''farther'' than her robes go and a dangerously short skirt. And of course, there's that necklace she wears with the [[MaleGaze chain that vanishes into her cleavage]]. It's pretty safe to say Rangiku has ''[[ShamelessFanserviceGirl no]]'' [[ShamelessFanserviceGirl self-image issues at all]]. [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation Or so many she is trying to compensate.]]
* Akari Hyuga from ''Manga/BloomIntoYou'' is taller than the rest of the main cast, including two boys and one of their teachers, and is said to still be growing. It makes sense considering that she plays basketball, and her height is in stark contrast to her two best friends, Yuu and Koyomi, who are the shortest members of the cast.
* ''Manga/BokuNoFutatsuNoTsubasa'' has Makoto. In addition to being an F-cup she's between 175cm and 180cm tall. Her height is commented on a few times, mostly by people asking if she's grown. [[spoiler:Justified in that Makato is also a half-alien hermaphrodite, so normal doesn't really apply to her.]]
* Several of the basketball players in ''Manga/BreakTheBorder'' are tall but Miyu takes the cake at 185 cm (6'0).
* Given that she's a ''centaur'', Himeno from ''Manga/ACentaursLife'' is bigger than all the girls in her class, and even most of the guys. There's also Sasasul, a snake-girl whose long neck makes her even taller than Hime.
* Tsukishima Botan from ''Manga/{{Change 123}}'' is a huge schoolgirl. She dislikes it, wanting to be 'normal' like the other girls in her class, and can be mistaken for a boy at first glance.
* Haruka Shiraishi from ''Manga/ChuBra'' is more developed than every other student at their school. She's only in middle school, so this really makes her stand out.
* Shinobu Kandadori, the best friend of Nanako from ''Anime/CrayonShinChan'', is basically a (gigantic) male wrestler in a SailorFuku with pigtails, but she has also a very feminine personality. Even her name is a pun on [[MeaningfulName Shinobu Kandori]], a famous Japanese (female) ex-wrestler and politician.
* ''Manga/TheDangersInMyHeart'': Anna Yamada is a 2nd year middle school student who stands at 171.9 (5'7"), slightly above the average Japanese adult male and OneHeadTaller than probably all of her classmates. She's been particularly huge even in elementary school and grew 15 cm back in 5th grade. She owes her height to her giant of a father.
* ''Manga/{{Eyeshield 21}}'' has this as a VisualPun; the members of the "Giants" football team aren't particularly large, but their female cheerleaders are, to the point one of the boys complains that they should be on the team instead. There's also Otohime and Urashima, the captain and vice-captain of the Poseidons' cheer-leading squad who are almost as tall as the 6-foot-and-a-bit linemen.
* Taken to its logical extreme when a giant washes ashore in ''Manga/FrankenFran''. The owners of the property dress her in a giant SailorFuku to attract tourists. A literally huge schoolgirl. There was also a chapter about a giant, morbidly obese schoolgirl who asked Fran to help her losing weight.
* Creo Brand from ''{{Manga/Freezing}}''. She stand at 173cm or about 5' 8", taller than virtually all other Pandora, since most Pandora stand anywhere between 5' 4" and 5' 6". Creo as a freshman was quite petite, until pairing up with Itsuki (which included a serious, no-junk-food diet) she now towers over a lot of the other Pandora at Genetics, and now has a fuller and more mature body. Trish [=McKenzie=] is another example, also standing at 5' 8".
* Fujiyama Maki, the main character of ''Fujiyama-san wa Shishunki'' is 181cm tall (5ft 11in). She's in her second year of middle school and still growing. She's the school volleyball team's star player and she's dating Kanba-kun who at 5ft 3in is a lot shorter than she is. Unusually for manga storylines where the standout character is spurned or even bullied she's got lots of friends at school although she's easily embarrassed about her height and build (she's not the willowy supermodel type).
* Namiko in ''Manga/GAGeijutsukaArtDesignClass'' is larger than her classmates. She seldom raises the insecurity thing, but Nodamiki often reminded us that, in fact, she does, and that is ''why'' Namiko [[NonuniformUniform always wears a big belt and never wears the school blazer to school]].
* Kanako Ohno from ''Manga/{{Genshiken}}'', although a university student, also qualifies. She is very tall and busty, in normal circumstances rather shy (to the point of covering up her swimsuit with a long shirt in the beach episode), but exhibitionistic when cosplaying.
** Among the new characters in the new chapters is Risa Yoshitake. Upon her introduction, she was visibly taller than her older sister Rika as well as several male upperclassmen. To top that off, her sister Rika [[spoiler:made her dress as a boy and passed her off as her older brother]] just for fun.
* In ''Anime/GirlsUndPanzer'', Nonna is the tallest of the high school cast, at 172 centimeters tall. As such, her friend and commander, the diminutive [[TinyTyrannicalGirl Katyusha]] likes riding on her shoulders to appear taller than everyone else. In the ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'' side manga, after Katyusha remarks that she's still above most Pravda students, [[TemptingFate Nonna comments that those taller than her are rare]]. At this point, a hulking female student who is even taller than Nonna arrives, and Katyusha immediately asks the former to join the tank-driving team.
* Suzumura from ''Manga/TheGodsLie'' is an elementary school example. She completely towers over her classmates.
* Maekawa from ''Literature/GroundControlToPsychoelectricGirl'' is 179 centimeters at age 16 so people often mistake her for repeating a grade. She's taller than Makoto. Despite being so tall she's very physically fragile. Just holding her hands above her head for several seconds causes her to feel faint.
* ''Anime/HaloLegends'': [[spoiler: In the episode ''The Babysitter'', Spartan Cal-141 could qualify as this. Due to her augmentations, she towers over the (all male) members of the squad of [[SpaceMarine ODST]]s she accompanies. This gets to the point that they do not even realize that she is female until her SamusIsAGirl moment]].
* Haru Sakamoto of ''Manga/HanaTheFoxGirl'' is tall enough that fellow high schooler Fu is barely up to her chest. Part of the reason for her height is that she's really a snake in human form, a long body type goes with the territory.
* Most of the beach volleyball players in ''Manga/HarukanaReceive'' are taller than average, [[JustifiedTrope since height confers an advantage in this sport]]. Haruka stands as being one of the tallest in the cast, at 172 cm (5'8").
* ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'': [[TeamMom Ukraine]] and [[CoolBigSis Belgium]] may or may not fit under this. Neither have an official height, but Belgium's profile calls her tall and is sometimes drawn as tall as France (about 175cm/5'9") in official artwork, but only comes up to her brother Netherlands' shoulder (although he is TheBigGuy). Ukraine on the other hand appears to be about 168cm/5'6"-5'7" in comparison to her younger sister Belarus. Both of them have traits of this trope without the official heights, with Belgium being prone to HeroicSelfDeprecation and Ukraine being somewhat of a fragile flower.
* The titular character from ''Manga/HitomiChanIsShyWithStrangers'' is not only tall for someone her age, but also towers over her LoveInterest Yuu, who is rather short, even though he's in the schoolyear above her.
* Minato from ''Manga/{{Hyakko}}'' is the well-endowed and leggy type, causing her classmate Nene to gush over her--much to her dismay, since she is also painfully shy.
* In ''Manga/IkkiTousen'', there's Kyoushou's Kyocho Chuukou (Xu Chu). An extremely tall girl (184cm), in the manga she was [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer bullied by the boys from the judo club]], who refused to believe that she was a woman. [[spoiler: At some point, they corner Chuukou and rip her clothes in the dojo, to see if she's a man or not. When caught by Sousou (Cao Cao), he released his SuperpoweredEvilSide to protect Chuukou, believing they wanted to rape her; she had to use a CooldownHug on him, but it was too late for the boys.]]
* Natsumi from ''The Kabocha Wine'' has always felt like an oddball because of her height, but she strikes up an unlikely friendship with [[TinyGuyHugeGirl the much shorter Shunsuke]].
* The titular character of ''Manga/KomiCantCommunicate'' has following this trope as one of her greatest fears, and is visibly tall amongst most of the other female characters (save for the adults). Much to her relief, she falls (''very'') short of meeting the specific height, topping out at only 169cm.
* Aoyama Motoko in ''Manga/LoveHina'', who, at 174 centimeters (around 5'8.5), is taller than the main male protagonist, Keitaro (it's even {{lampshade|Hanging}}d in a chapter of the manga). Exacerbated with being somewhat cold and serious.
* Hawatari Yuiko in ''Manga/{{Loveless}}'', leading Yayoi to consider Ritsuka too short to date her.
* ''Manga/LovelyComplex'' is built on the premise as the very tall lead girl, Risa Koizumi (5'9" and still growing) compounds the issue by getting a crush on a particularly short boy, Atsushi Otani (5'2").
* Minami Iwasaki of ''Manga/LuckyStar'', is not particularly tall (163cm), but she was especially notable in the company of her pint-sized friend Yutaka (138cm), to the point that [[YuriFan Hiyori]] finds the OneHeadTaller situation too pretty to avoid. Minami often subverts the trope by quietly expressing her wish to have ''larger'' breasts - [[ACupAngst she is completely flat-chested, and finds this deeply depressing]].
* Suletta Mercury, protagonist of ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamTheWitchFromMercury'', is 170cm (about 5'7). This is often played for humor, as she's also very socially awkward and skittish, and in a few scenes is shown hiding behind her fiancee Miorine--who, at a downright puny 150cm, is a whole head shorter than her even while wearing stilettos. Funnily, she's actually the tallest teenage ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'' protagonist, despite being the first female one to headline a TV series.
* ''Manga/MyDressUpDarling'': Shinju Inui is a middle schooler who stands 178cm (roughly 5'10"), a heavy contrast with her older sister Sajuna who could pass off for an elementary schooler despite being in second year of high school. Aside from the obvious complex about this, [[DCupDistress she has a large bust that gets in the way]] when she wants to cosplay as a male character.
* ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'':
** Possibly subverted in Kaede (181cm), who despite being the tallest in the class has no complex about nor is it the size issue commented on. This might be explained either because of the high oddity level of the class in general, or it simply being overshadowed by her charmpoint role as a {{ninja}}.
** Similarly, her classmates Mana, [[RobotGirl Chachamaru]], and Akira are pretty tall as well.
** It is eventually shown that she and Mana (184 cm), with both of them also fairly mature-looking for their age, are unable to get their student discounts at the local movie theater, as the ticket saleslady refuses to believe that they are only 14. The "bigness" of several classmates is also pointed out by various characters throughout the series. "What the hell?! Are they really 14-year-old students?" Much of that is due to, er, overdevelopment in the balcony department, if you will.)
** Of course, if Chachamaru ever gets uncomfortable with her size, she can just get a new body! Current models include the standard, one with artificial skin and, for some reason, a {{loli|conAndShotacon}}form. Makes some sort of sense when you consider it is the one that looks closest to her [[YoungerThanTheyLook actual age]].
*** In this series, ''everybody's'' first instinct for disguising themselves is an age change. Chachamaru got the loliform with an upgrade package designed by analyzing the events of the Festival arc, in which she needed a disguise and had to settle for a bulky concealing costume. New ear decorations (everybody's ''second'' instinct for disguise) came included.
** Humorously enough, in the series, at least with Negi's students, age seems to be inversely proportional to physical development. The more loli looking characters, such as Fumika and Evangeline are actually the older ones in the class and the more developed ones like Chizuru and Kaede and the younger ones in the class.
*** This is true, except for between 2 to 4 outliers.
*** Another exception may be Mana, who has made statements implying she's just as old as she looks before declaring she has lied. At least part of one of these statements has been confirmed as true.
*** In Eva's case she is actually physically younger than the rest of the class (she was turned into a vampire as a 10 year old) despite being roughly 600 years older than most of the class.
* While she's not much taller than the others, this is a source of complex for Mio in ''Manga/KOn'' She starts sulking when she so much as find out that her hands are slightly bigger than Yui's (who herself has bigger hands than the rest of their bandmates).
--> '''Yui:''' H-Hey! This only means your hand is long, slender and beautiful!
* Rina Takamiya from ''Manga/KaitouSaintTail'' is visibly taller than all but one of her classmates (two after Asuka jr. hit his growth spurt). Differently from most examples, not only she has an ''enormous'' self-esteem (to the point that one of the rare moments where she didn't appear completely in control and self-assured was when she noticed her crush Asuka jr. had a growth spurt ''and was now taller''), but actually manages to sell her height as a ''charm point''.
* Sayaka Kanamori from ''Manga/KeepYourHandsOffEizouken'' is rather tall and lanky, towering over her short buddy Asakusa and being a good bit taller than the average-sized Mizusaki. Despite being one of the plainest characters on this list, she's more self-assured than many of the other examples, being a brusque and calculating character who leverages her height to loom intimidatingly when necessary. When Mizusaki notes her long legs, she simply states that it's because she gets a lot of sleep.
* Komori Shuri, the titular character from ''Manga/KomorisanCantDecline'' is much taller than the other girls, especially her friends (6 feet at age 14). Very strong too. And busty.
* {{Deconstructed|trope}} by Detective Tsukino of ''Manga/KotouraSan''. She was one while going through high school, which made her an easy target for bullying. [[spoiler:This is a reason why she has a SplitPersonality, her evil personality was in charge or revenge and was also the perp of the physical assaults on school girls in the latter third of the anime.]]
* Angelica of ''VideoGame/LapisReLights'' suffers because of her incredible height, both because she towers over the rest of her classmates at Flora Girls' Academy and because [[spoiler:she can no longer use the "cute, tiny, and precious" appeal she had back in her days performing with the now-defunct idol group Ray.]]
* ''Manga/MajorSecond'': Chiyo Fujii, despite being a second year in middle school, is the tallest member of the Fuurin baseball team (almost as tall as Toshiya Sato, who is full-grown adult male). While she originally joined to be the CuteSportsClubManager to get close to Akira Nishida, it quickly becomes apparent that she has the talent to be a player. Anita Kabashima, who is a first year, is also pretty tall herself (her main edge as a catcher), though in her case it might be partly justified for [[ButNotTooForeign being part-Brazilian]].
* Kanako from ''Manga/MariaHolic'' satisfies this; she is much taller than her classmates, who comment on her height.
* Yuu Kashima of ''Manga/MonthlyGirlsNozakiKun'' is 174cm tall (about 5'8") and hails as the [[PrinceCharming Prince]] of the school and [[ChickMagnet object of desire]] for a good chunk of her [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer female classmates]]. Bonus points for the fact she's also half-a-head taller than her favorite male upperclassman Masayuki Hori, and sometimes teases him about it. She's one of the few examples of this trope who actively ''revels'' in her height rather than feeling self-conscious for it.
* Probably the ur-example, although admittedly also a parody, is Morumo Shirase from the manga ''Morumo 1/10''. She is a 16-meter-tall schoolgirl [[spoiler:that happens to be an alien]] who has to wear advertising banners on her school uniform so her family has enough money to support her. She eventually does receive a treatment to make her human height, but it does nothing to reduce her enormous weight and thus she still crushes the concrete of sidewalks with every step.
* Suna's older sister Ai from ''Manga/MyLoveStory'' was lanky and skinny in elementary school. This caused her to be bullied. She fell for Takeo when he told her she looked like a tall flower. Ai acknowledges their three year age gap makes it hard for them to be together (when she began high school he was beginning junior high) and thus never confesses. She planned to confess when he entered college but Takeo got a girlfriend before that occurred.
* Hotaru from ''Manga/NonNonBiyori'' is 164cm tall despite being a ''fifth-grader'' (ie ''10 years old''), making her taller than her two middle school student friends (with one of them being only 140cm tall).
* ''Manga/NurseHitomisMonsterInfirmary'': Kyouko Ooki is the tallest student in the school, at over 3 meters tall, and has started growing into GiantWoman territory. She's best friends (and possibly more) with the shortest girl in school, Chisa Osanai.
* Funabashi from ''Manga/OchaNigosu'' is a rare male version, being an intimidatingly large and scary-looking boy who is a member of his school's tea ceremony club and longs to live "a heartwarming life."
* An elementary school version: the {{Bokukko}} Naomi Okuyama from ''Anime/OjamajoDoremi''.
* Yuna of ''Manga/{{Onidere}}'' is pretty and tall, but she's a gang member who [[DualWielding uses two]] [[WoodenKatanasAreEvenBetter bokken]] and uses her size to intimidate.
* Saori from ''Literature/{{Oreimo}}'' is a subversion of this and the socially-inept {{Otaku}} stereotype; she's fifteen years old, [[NiceGuy cheerful, friendly]], and even helps the eponymous little sister to be comfortable with being an {{Otaku}}. The height issue isn't even brought up. At least in the anime, she does mention it makes {{cosplay}} a little [[CrackIsCheaper pricier]]. [[spoiler:Good thing she's [[SecretlyWealthy loaded]]]]. It gets a brief mention in the second anime when one of her sister's friends mentions that she's huge.
* Shiratori Suzune in ''Anime/PaniPoniDash'' is 172 cm tall -- she towers above her best friend Otome. The two are {{Jerk Ass}}es to each other, usually about the height difference. Otome calls her a "giant woman", and Suzune loves to poke the top of Otome's head, where she claims there's a pressure point to make her shorter. On another note, Zula's not exactly small, either.
* Kaede Misumi in ''Anime/PleaseTeacher'' stands out quite a bit since she's a lot taller than her female peers. It's implied this is due to her [[ButNotTooForeign having Irish heritage]].
* At 172 cm, Lisa from ''Manga/PopcornAvatar'' is this for her age group (16 years). Somewhat justified in her case, as she's not only a foreigner (though raised in Japan), but has genetics on her side, as a later chapter reveals that her father Daniel is huge.
* Mao Daidouji from ''Anime/PrincessNine'' has it doubly bad, being both taller than normal (175cm, almost 5'9") and heavier than normal. When she first appeared, they played a bit of music that sounded like the ''Anime/GiantRobo'' theme. It helps that both works shared the same composer, Masamichi Amano, and orchestra.
** Seira Morimura (171cm, a little over 5'7") also qualifies for this trope, while Izumi (5'6") and Yuki (5'5") come close. Given the nature of the series, you would expect for everyone to be of about average height or taller, and all of them are. Mao's bulk is what sets her apart more than her height does.
* Parodied in Mari from ''Anime/ProjectAKo''. Not only is Mari huge for a high school girl (to say the least), she was intentionally designed as a parody of the male hero Ken, of ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar'', and physically she is a virtual clone of him, if he had breasts and wore a fuku. She even shares some of his signature martial arts moves. The overall comedic effect is compounded by Mari's high-pitched, girlish speaking voice, contrasted by the extremely masculine grunts and various non-speech noises she makes.
* Likewise, Maggie Mui (185cm, exactly 6'1") from ''Anime/ReadOrDie'' is shy and bookish most of the time.
* Ryoko Mitsurugi, the titular character of the manga/anime ''Manga/RealBoutHighSchool'', is much admired for her strength and samurai ideals (not to mention ogled by the guys because she's quite the looker) but has a complex about her height - especially since she's (marginally) taller than her crush, who happens to be older than her.
* ''Franchise/SailorMoon'':
** A large part of Makoto Kino's (Sailor Jupiter; Lita in the English and Latin American dubs of the '90s anime) character, especially early on, is the various misunderstandings and insecurities caused by her appearance: when she transfers to Juuban Municipal Junior High, her height (168cm[=/=]5'6") means that [[TransferStudentUniforms there are no uniforms her size]]. Add to that she is the spitting image of a delinquent (curly hair, her old uniform's long skirt and shoe style), is rumored to have been transferred for fighting at her previous school, and that she ''is'' genuinely very strong and badass (even before getting her powers), leads to her not being very popular at first. Part of her CharacterDevelopment is to feel secure about her looks and feminine attributes, along with her more masculine ones (Depending on the adaptation, she ranges from TomboyWithAGirlyStreak to GirlyBruiser).
** From later in the series, ButchLesbian Haruka is quite tall, but she doesn't care (nor does anyone else).
** Taiki is also quite tall, but seeing how she's an alien posing as a student and has been traveling the galaxy for who-knows-how-long, might not quite count.
* Toyone from ''{{Manga/Saki}}'' is 197cm[[note]]6'5"[[/note]] tall as a third-year in high school, making her not only taller than her teammates (which includes the very short Kurumi), but taller than many adults.
* Tomo from ''Manga/ShonenNoteBoySoprano'' is male but still fits many of the stereotypes. He's a lanky middle school boy who's well over OneHeadTaller than most of his peers (his best friend's head only reaches his elbows) and has insecurities about his height. His parents treat him like he's an adult and refer to him as such due to his height, which upsets him.
* Sahara from ''Manga/ASilentVoice'' is shown to have grown quite tall when Shouya meets her again as a high schooler. [[spoiler:Her height leads to her getting into modeling]].
* Paraietta, the tallest of the teenaged-Sybillae from ''Anime/{{Simoun}}''. She outright ''towers'' over most of the other girls (never mind Rimone/[[InconsistentSpelling Limone]]), and the only one with a larger bust than her is the resident OldMaid, Dominura.
* The protagonist of the manga ''Manga/ASixFeetGirl''. (Guess how tall she is.)
* Koma-chan from ''Manga/SketDance'' is a very huge and strong (and buxom!) girl who stands at 181cm tall, but on the other hand she is also very ladylike and desperately shy. HilarityEnsues from the fact that whenever she is embarrassed, she is [[PowerIncontinence not able to control her strength]]. Turns out it's genetic.
* Averted in ''Manga/{{Sketchbook}}'', where Juju is more than one head taller than most other female cast members. She is still quite the elegant type though, with her drawing skills, guitar playing and singing and you don't get the idea that she or others pay any special attention to her height.
* Ran Asakawa of ''Manga/StrawberryShakeSweet'' (176cm): although her unusual height is rarely addressed in the manga, she ''is'' remarkably shy and self-conscious. This may be the reason for her boyish, androgynous looks.
* The Grand Prize goes to Mana from ''Manga/SuperDreadnoughtGirl4946''. On her first day of school, she becomes defensive when called ''50m'' tall (she's [[TitleDrop 49m, 46cm]] thankyouvery''much'').
* Karen Kohiruimaki of ''Literature/SwordArtOnlineAlternativeGunGaleOnline'' was 5'7" in middle school, and grows to six feet tall by the time she starts college. She has quite a bit of HeightAngst as a result, and hopes to join a VRMMO that allows her to be short and cute.
* Ishidou Natsuo from ''Manga/{{Teppu}}'' is another embodiment of this trope. First year in high school, she is 182cm tall, as it is often commented on. However, the real trouble is her natural talent in sports, which brings people to hate her. Arguably, this is the cause of her being a {{Jerkass}}. Or maybe is the opposite? To make things worse, she is approached by a [[GenkiGirl cheerful]] girl to join her MMA club.
* Remmy from ''VisualNovel/ToHeart''. Justified by being half-American.
* Aiko Torasawa, the lead of ''Manga/TorakoAnmariKowashichaDameDaYo'', is a good OneHeadTaller than the bulk of her female classmates (her otherwise imposing would-be rival Takano comes up to around her nose), visibly taller than her burly adult male teacher, broad shouldered, generally solidly built, and looks quite physically powerful for a fifteen year old girl (if [[SuperStrength nowhere near as strong]] as she ''[[DoesNotKnowHerOwnStrength is]]'').
* She's older and out of school, but Milly Thompson from ''Manga/TriGun'' otherwise fits in quite well, as she tends to stand taller than most of the men and carries a slight [[TheDitz ditziness]] to her.
* 53 of ''Manga/{{Upotte}}'', due to the series' premise of featuring {{Anthropomorphic Personification}}s of firearms - since 53's basis, the [=HK53=], is an assault rifle cut down to the size of a submachine gun, she's an elementary schooler (like the [=SMGs=]) who's already grown to be as big as a middle schooler (like the assault rifles).
* From ''Manga/{{Wagnaria}}'', Souta's youngest sister, Nazuna, is really tall for a twelve year-old. She stands shoulder-to-shoulder with her brother, who is a sophomore in high school, and is noticeably taller than many of his female colleagues at work.
* Sotomura from ''Manga/WaratteSotomuraSan''. This is one of the reasons she's often mistaken for a delinquent.
* ''Manga/WelcomeToDemonSchoolIrumaKun'': StudentCouncilPresident Ameri absolutely ''towers'' over the rest of the students (and most of the teachers), being roughly twice as tall as the main character. This being a school of demons, who come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, no one finds that particularly unusual.
* Murasame Sumika aka "Violent" Murasame from ''Manga/WhisperedWords'' is tall (175cm at age 15), the daughter of a karate dojo owner and a top-class karateka in her own right. She's smart, athletic, the class rep [[ClassRepresentative (iincho)]] and she'd give it all up to be cute because the girl she loves, Ushio is only interested in cute girls. Angst ensues.
* Kagari Ayaka of ''Manga/WitchCraftWorks'' is listed at 197cm, which allows her to tower over her love interest Honoka and just about everyone else. The anime version reduces the difference to about half a head.
* Sumire from ''Manga/YoureMyPet'' often has trouble because she is taller and more highly educated than her male coworkers, which they find intimidating.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* ''ComicBook/ArchieComics'' has Ethel, who is something of an exaggerated version, as she's somewhat taller than most of the boys.
* Laurel Gand of ''ComicBook/LegionOfSuperHeroes'' was well over six feet tall as a teen and a full 7 in adulthood.
* Comicbook/SheHulk is 7 feet tall, but long past her school days in the core Franchise/MarvelUniverse. However, in the alternate continuity of ''Marvel Her-oes'', she ''is'' a schoolgirl who fits this trope.
* Comicbook/{{Gen 13}}'s Caitlin Fairchild was originally a mousy, awkward 5'4" bookworm. Her powers caused her to gain super strength, nigh invulnerability, and about twelve inches of height. Her shy nature is compounded by the fact that besides being so tall her powers also [[HeroicBuild "filled out" her body frame]] to near ridiculous proportions ([[MostCommonSuperpower even for a comic heroine]]).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* Hakini, the twelve-year-old viewpoint character of ''Fanfic/BetterOffNotKnowing'', is described as "gangly, awkward, too tall," already eye-to-eye with her [[HappilyAdopted adoptive father]] at a confirmed height of 5'11" (180cm and change). [[spoiler:Then again, it's implied that her birth mother was the 6'8" (2.03m) [[HavingABlast combustionbender]] villainess P'Li.]]
* In ''Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm'', there's Carol Danvers, who's pretty much fully physically developed in every sense, making her a StatuesqueStunner who looks like a college student at 14/15, and is every bit as tall as her [[ComicBook/MsMarvel canon counterpart]] meaning that she stands out like a sore thumb and gets a ''lot'' of unwanted attention.
* ''Fanfic/{{Intercom}}'' uses this with Riley by way of relative size. Riley's emotions are a variety of sizes within Riley's mind. However, when Riley actually enters her mind through lucid dreaming, they're surprised to discover she's actually half a head taller than the tallest of them (making her about 4'7", or just shy of 140cm, but seeming huge in comparison).
* From ''Fanfic/LuckyStarAfterStory'', we have original character Tomoyo Yoshida. She stands at an impressive 174 centimeters tall (between 5'8" and 5'9"), meeting the qualifications for Huge Schoolgirl status.
* ''Fanfic/NeitherABirdNorAPlaneItsDeku'': Mercy, Alexis "Lexi" Luthor's chauffeur/bodyguard/best friend, stands at 190 cm. Izuku first assumes Mercy is a teacher when Lexi tells him that Mercy will be going to school with them. Lexi then informs him that Mercy is actually the same age as them. Izuku quickly accepts this, as [[PhenotypeStereotype Americans are bound to be tall]]. Mercy simply says, [[DeadpanSnarker "I drink a lot of milk."]]
* In the sidestories of ''Fanfic/PokemonResetBloodlines'' featuring the Melemele Trainer School, it's stated that Lillie was the tallest girl in her class at the start of the school year (her mom Lusamine is a StatuesqueStunner, so she takes after her on that) and it's implied that she's still growing. She later gets outgrown by Velvet Lono, though.
* Veronica Weasley from ''Fanfic/WeasleyGirl'' is a {{Gender Flip}}ped [[Literature/HarryPotter Ron Weasley]], and has the same tall, lanky build as her male canon counterpart and is described by the narrative as looking "awkward, almost comical" as a result. Draco Malfoy calls her "Beanstalk" on a few occasions.
* ''Fanfic/WhereTalentGoesToDie'' has Momo Iwasawa, the Ultimate Farm Hand. At six feet tall, Iwasawa is roughly the tallest member of the cast, and fairly muscular, to boot.
* In ''Fanfic/WithPearlAndRubyGlowing'', [[WesternAnimation/TurningRed Meilin]] is going through masculine puberty due to an intersex condition, and is getting bigger and stronger than most young girls because of it. Even more extremely, [[WhatCouldHaveBeen/DisneyAndPixar Inma]] is a preteen girl with gigantism who's already seven feet tall.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Film]]
* [[TheLadette Charlie]] [[WrenchWench Watson]] (played by Creator/HaileeSteinfeld) from ''Film/{{Bumblebee}}'' is 5'8 (173 cm), ''much'' bigger than your typical 18-year-old girl. She even towers her own mother by ''eight inches''.
* Jenny from ''Film/{{Famine}}'' appears to be about a head taller than almost all the other characters.
* Used for a quick gag in ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManIntoTheSpiderVerse'', after Miles embarrasses himself at school with his PowerIncontinence, he's briefly distracted from an anxious freak-out when he passes an extremely tall female student in the halls and his train of thought derails to note her height.
* Netflix's''Film/TallGirl'' is all about a high school girl who is bullied for her above-average height.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* Laura Danker in ''Literature/AreYouThereGodItsMeMargaret'' is both taller than the boys in her class and bustier than the other girls, and is used to impart AnAesop about how girls who develop early are often presumed to be "slutty" based solely on appearance.
* The main character of the YA novel ''Beanpole'', by Barbara Park. The premise of the novel is she makes three wishes on her thirteenth birthday, and [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor all three come true]] in unexpected ways. The most painfully awkward scenes involve being OneHeadTaller than most of her classmates, especially the boys. [[DeadpanSnarker She deals with her pain with humor]].
* Ursula Riggs of ''Big Mouth & Ugly Girl''. She's an athlete, playing on her school's basketball team. She used to swim as well, until she heard someone make a "thunder thighs" comment and became uncomfortable about wearing a bathing suit.
* Daja in the ''Literature/CircleOfMagic'' books is much taller than her foster siblings, who include a boy, for most of their growing up, not to mention extremely muscular because she's a blacksmith.
* Literature/{{Discworld}}'s Lady Sybil Vimes seems to have been this when she was younger. There's also Ludmilla Cake, Mrs. Evadne Cake's daughter. Mrs. Cake is short, plump, has enough force of personality to loom over absolutely ''anyone'', regardless of height, and is the terror of most of Ankh-Morpork's officials. Ludmilla, on the other hand, is big, tall, and strong, and has spent her whole life trying desperately to shrink inside herself and ''not'' loom. This may be an understandable by-product of living with Mrs. Cake, but it's quite hard to do when you're also a werewolf.
* One Franchise/DoctorWhoExpandedUniverse ''Literature/EighthDoctorAdventures'' novel gives Fitz a GirlOfTheWeek who's at least 6'6" (198cm) and a little self-conscious about it. Having never met anyone outside of her household before, as she's [[UglyCute deformed]] and lives in a {{dystopia}} where that's a big problem, she's a bit less embarrassed than you'd expect considering the fact she's also a ShrinkingViolet. Being so incredibly sheltered also causes her to call Fitz "beautiful" when she first sees him; he's not all that terribly attractive and so turns bright red. Now there's a cute image -- TheIngenue, towering over the ChivalrousPervert, makes him go beet-red. Right?
* In ''Literature/TheDresdenFiles'', all the Carpenter women tend towards the "[[StatuesqueStunner tall]], [[AmazonianBeauty fit]] and gorgeous", but the award in this genre goes to Amanda, who is 16 and already taller than her big sister Molly, who in turn nudges 6 feet barefoot. For bonus points, Amanda attends a Catholic school with all that entails in the way of uniform.
* ''Literature/TheDunwichHorror'': Thanks to the AppliedPhlebotinum of [[spoiler:[[HalfHumanHybrid "mixed" lineage]]]], Wilbur Whateley grows to [[ExaggeratedTrope almost seven feet tall at the age of twelve]], and is nine feet tall by the time he finally dies. [[note]](This also happens to be [[BizarreAlienBiology the least strange thing about his corpse]].)[[/note]] He's [[FriendlessBackground not a very popular child]], either ([[TheAntichrist and for good reason]]), but [[MisanthropeSupreme he doesn't really care]].
* In the TabletopGame/ForgottenRealms book ''Pool of Radiance'', Shal Bal, a young wizard's apprentice in possession of a ring of wishing [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor carelessly wishes]] that she was strong enough to unload her horse by herself, causing her to grow until she is strong enough. It never states how exactly large she grows, although it says she is a few hands taller than her friend (Who is said to be a little bit over 6'). She thinks of herself as ugly now, but once it switches to her up-and-coming companions point of view, he points out (to himself and the audience, not to her) that she is still very attractive, assuming one is not intimidated by a woman who is larger (and probably stronger) than oneself.
* ''Literature/HarryPotter'':
** The vast physical size of Millicent Bulstrode is an ongoing joke in the second book.
** During the Yule Ball shenanigans in ''Literature/HarryPotterAndTheGobletOfFire'', Harry gets asked out by a girl he describes as a foot taller than him (though he's probably exaggerating) and is nervous about turning down lest she punch him out.
* In ''Literature/TheHelp'', Skeeter Phelan has always been very tall (the reason for her nick-name "Skeeter" is that her older brother declared "that's not a baby, that's a skeeter!" when seeing his newborn sister the first time) but it seems she was especially self-conscious about it in high school when she stood behind the other girls together with the boys in the class photographs. At the date of the novel, as a college-graduate, ca. 1,80 m (5 ft. 11) Skeeter and especially her mother still worry about finding a suitable, not too small boyfriend for her.
* ''Literature/LoomingGaia'': Jeimos, a nonbinary AFAB elf, is taller than most female elves, their mother having to buy their clothes from the adult section when they were the equivalent of about twelve human years. They were bullied in school over it and quite self conscious about it.
* ''Literature/MariaWatchesOverUs'' has a few.
** Rei Hasekura (''Rosa Foetida en Bouton'') is a Huge Schoolgirl, a {{Bifauxnen}}, and a KendoTeamCaptain, although she prefers domestic interests.
** Kanako Hosokawa is way taller than Rei still, towering almost two heads above most of the rest of the cast. It is compensated by her gentle demeanor and there is no sign that she or others are bothered by her height. For quite a while she even was a serious candidate for becoming Yumi's petite soeur. This was played for humor in the [[BonusMaterial outtakes]] for the anime adaptation, when Kanako was made into a towering giant (pictured above).
* Calliope in ''Literature/{{Middlesex}}'' was about 5'10" (a hair short of 178cm) even before she turned fourteen. Though, in this case, she had some [[{{Hermaphrodite}} unusual circumstances]] to explain it.
* Eri in Kuroda Kenji's ''Persona Detective'' is tall (and skinny and flat-chested), self-conscious, and perpetually boyfriendless. She concludes that looking at someone from below just isn't an attractive angle -- after all, no matter how nicely she may dress or do her hair, people can still see up her nose.
* A "Post Modern FairyTale" book featured a very tall, rather butch princess whose parents arranged an EngagementChallenge for princes who had to be, stronger, taller, and [[UnfortunateImplications smarter]] (in this case more mechanically inclined) than she was. The prince in the lead was a virtual {{Noodle Pe|ople}}rson, however [[spoiler: the princess fell for that guy's helicopter pilot who was as smart as she was but shorter and obviously not as strong. Naturally, it's revealed that the prince and the 'copter pilot had switched places, and happily-ever-afters were had by all]].
* ''Literature/ProtectorOfTheSmall'''s protagonist Keladry. is a borderline example. The first openly female page, in four years she went from five feet one inch to five feet seven inches, and she's described as being a big girl, thick-waisted and well-muscled. Of course, the ''other'' pages were male, growing a little later in life. Many of them started off smaller than her and ended up taller.
* Kyoshi from ''Literature/TheRiseOfKyoshi'' is a seven foot-tall servant girl with [[FriendlessBackground no childhood friends]] and was bullied by other villagers for her unusual height and [[OrphansOrdeal unknown parentage]]. An important part of the book is highlighting the CharacterDevelopment that led to her transformation from a meek servant girl who refuses to stand up to bullies into a juggernaut that ''Avatar'' history remembers primarily for [[JudgeJuryAndExecutioner kicking ass and taking names]].
* Andy, the protagonist of ''Literature/TheSuitcaseKid'', is unusually tall for a ten year-old and feels self-conscious about her height, especially as some people make fun of her for it or constantly point it out. It's also one of the reasons her mother Carol and stepfather Bill never take Andy's side when she gets into fights with [[BrattyHalfPint Katie]], because Andy is much bigger than Katie (who plays herself up as being small and delicate).
* In ''Literature/{{Swynmoor}}'', Topaz's height is never directly provided, but it's noted that she towers over all of the women, and most of the men, of the book, and that her height has resulted in great difficulty in finding suitors.
* ''Literature/TalesOfMU'':
** The nymph Amaranth is over six feet tall.
** Pala, despite being a college student, comes off as a mixture of this trope and StatuesqueStunner. Of course, her own perspective is the inverse of this trope; as a storm giant, she is rather ''small'' in her own estimation, even as she awkwardly towers over everyone else at MU.
* ''Literature/{{Worm}}'': Taylor Hebert, the fifteen year-old protagonist, is [[WordOfGod 5'8"]], and grows slightly over the course of the series.
* Enid Nightshade in ''Literature/TheWorstWitch'' series was described as very large and shy, though really she had a secret evil (ish) spark that she used her size and relative newness to the school to disguise, much to Worst Witch Mildred's chagrin. In the live action series, however, Enid was played be a very small (and more visibly spunky) actress.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* In ''Series/ArrestedDevelopment'' a young Lindsay Bluth complains to her much smaller [[spoiler: not really]] twin brother about being so much bigger than the other kids at school [[spoiler: Lindsay is, in fact, several years older than her classmates, unbeknownst to anyone but her parents and once prospective adoptive father Stan Sitwell]].
* Chummy on ''Series/CallTheMidwife'' is a post-school example, though her first episode, where she arrives at Nonnatus House and learns the ropes as a midwife, serves much the same purpose.
* [[TheDitz Ditzy cheerleader]] Brittany from ''Series/{{Glee}}'' who is the tallest girl in the glee club at 5'8. Until [[BrawnHilda Lauren Zizes]] joins.
* Dorothy from ''Series/TheGoldenGirls'' was this in her teen years, as was Bea Arthur in real life, who was initially picked on for her height but became popular when her razor wit spawned hilarious comebacks.
* TheReveal from the TV movie ''Film/IWasATeenageFaust''. [[spoiler: Model/actress Twyla Day]] used to be tall, gangly [[spoiler: Su Su Hiltz before she sold her soul]].
* ''Series/Miranda2009'': Miranda Hart became a comedienne to capitalize on her height (6"1') and general air of apologetic awkwardness. Her self-titled TV show revolves around this, with lovely visual gags like her mother being played by the petite Patricia Hodge and her best friend being only just over five feet tall. To her former schoolfriends, she is still "Queen Kong".
* Moze on ''Series/NedsDeclassifiedSchoolSurvivalGuide''. Her side of the '''Guide to Your Body''' specifically dealt with her self-consciousness about her height. According to Creator/LindseyShaw's current (12/2007) [=IMDb=] page she is 5'7" (170cm), two years after the episode was made.
* ''Series/NeverHaveIEver'': Fabiola, which is lampshaded when Devi tells her to date the much shorter Alex Gomez. Her actress stands at 5'9".
* ''Series/TheNevers'': Primrose Chattoway is a 16-year-old girl who is at least ten feet tall.
* Destiny in ''Series/OneLifeToLive'' overlaps between this and HollywoodPudgy. She's not that ''tall'' but gets bullied for her weight and the fact that they shoot her from the perspective of her [[strike:boy]]friend who's in a wheelchair means she gets the HitlerCam a lot.
* Jessie from ''Series/SavedByTheBell'' is so distressed about her height that she has a nightmare where she doesn't stop growing.
* ''Series/SummerHeightsHigh''? As with [[YouLookFamiliar all three]] of the comic characters in the [[FauxDocumentary show]] (the rest of the cast are a collection of {{Innocent Bystander}}s) [[AlphaBitch Ja'mie]] is played by Chris Lilley, and towers over the rest of the (actual teenaged and female) schoolgirls. Also with his other teenaged character, Jonas, although that can be handwaved in the fact that he's a native of Tonga.
* ''Series/That70sShow'' has Donna Pinciatti, who's confident and more of a StatuesqueStunner; and Big Rhonda, who is shy and awkward.
* In ''Series/TheWorstYearOfMyLifeAgain'', Big Hannah is a minor character who is this trope and little else.
* Minor character "Big Kerry" from ''Series/TheInbetweeners'' has this as one of her defining traits.
* In ''Series/YoSoyBettyLaFea'' there is Sandra Patiño, whose complex in being this trope is as big and tall as her. Because everyone used [[ButtMonkey to pick on her]] because of her height, she is [[HairTriggerTemper extremely prone to random acts of aggression]] if [[BerserkButton minimally provoked]]. She's specially frustrated because she decided to only marry a man who were taller than her, something she has yet to find, leading her to a {{Spinster}} existence she constantly complains against.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Music]]
* Music/TaylorSwift, who is about 5'11", has spoken about being isolated due to her height when she was in school, finding it difficult to make friends when she was over a head taller than the other girls in her class. While she's comfortable with her height now, she's alluded in her song lyrics to formative insecurities about it. In "Anti-Hero", a song from a ConceptAlbum meant to represent the fears running through her head in the dead of night, she describes herself as sometimes feeling like everyone else is a "sexy baby, and I'm a monster on a hill". She's also alluded in her songs to boys she dates being threatened by her height, especially because she's 6'0" in heels.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Professional Wrestling]]
* Even before her pro debut, NYX had a small degree of fame among fans in Pittsburgh seeing as she was an imperial 5'8 ''at age 8''. She had a very protective family who would give dirty looks to men who came by her, expecting them to assume she was much older than she really was. Upon graduation of grade school and officially debuting in pro wrestling during 1995 NYX was [[TheGiant 6'5 260 lbs]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Roleplay]]
* Luna from ''Roleplay/DawnOfANewAgeOldportBlues'' is 6', making her the tallest student in the cast besides 6'2" Ivan. Her own parents have described her as freakishly tall, and her superpower gives her enhanced strength to match her height.
* Two ''Roleplay/SurvivalOfTheFittest'' examples, both from V3. Dacey Ashcroft and Afra Jacinth, 6ft 1" and 6ft 2" respectively. The latter is very gawky and awkward, whereas the former presents androgynously. There was also Amanda Jones in v1, who stood at a towering 6'4. And then v4 gives us Raina Morales, who stands at ''6'6"''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Video Games]]
* ''Videogame/BioShock2'' introduces the Big Sister, which is the result of the {{Creepy Child}}ren of Rapture entering puberty while having their bodies full of mutagen: ancillary material list them as 6' 10" (2m 8 cm) tall, but with relatively small feet (not to mention [[AxCrazy minds beyond broken]]).
* Ao Ohtori from ''VideoGame/{{IMGCM}}'', the president of Takeraho Private Academy Student Council, is 174 cm and likes working out. Her twin sister Aka Ohtori also counts, although she’s 4 cm shorter than her.
* VideoGame/{{Iji}}, from the game of the same name, is 6'3"; ironically, considering the [[{{BFG}} weapon she totes around]] (designed for aliens who are seven feet tall at minimum), she's frequently mistaken for a case of SmallGirlBigGun.
* Roleplay example: While she's still quite petite, the strong, scarred and angry {{tsundere}} in ''Kokoro'' has a very similar complex.
* Akane in ''VideoGame/LostJudgment'' stands at around five-feet-nine (175 cm), making her much taller than most of the girls at Seiryo High School.
* Misuzu, the 3rd stage boss of the old Technos beat-'em-up ''Nekketsu Kouha VideoGame/KunioKun'' (''Renegade'' in the US) isn't just a huge schoolgirl, she's huge, '''period''' (think Wrestling/AndreTheGiant in a seifuku).
* ''Videogame/PokemonScarletAndViolet'' features Eri, a member of the school delinquent evil team Team Star, who towers over pretty much every other school age character. Despite this, [[spoiler: and the fact that Team Star was formed from victims of bullying fighting back, no dialogue outright says her height got her bullied, with her natural beauty and athletic abilities making her both popular and the target of jealousies that in turn led to said bullying]].
* Natsu Ayuhara from the ''VideoGame/RivalSchools'' series of fighters is not only the tallest female in the cast, but at 182cm (just under 6 feet) taller than a good number of the male characters as well. She often remarks about how most boys are often afraid of her because of her size, with the exception of her [[TheMasochismTango on-again, off-again boyfriend]] Shoma (who coincidentally is Natsu's [[TheNapoleon polar opposite]] - and she likes to pick on him for this). Well, she's the captain of the volleyball team. That certainly helps her case.
* ''VideoGame/SenranKagura'' has quite a few characters who have passed the 165cm mark. The tallest student from the first batch of games is Daidouji (170cm), and where she might be ''25 years old'' due of her refusing to graduate, she seemed to have been tall even during her high school age. The tallest student overall is Murakumo (172cm).
* Elena is seen as one in ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIII'' in her ending. She's six feet tall, so she stands ''well'' above the other schoolgirls.
* Though not a high school student (and actually an adult), Ronnie Bell of ''VideoGame/{{Suikoden}}'' is often teased or feared about her height, leading to the nickname "Giant Woman", which she finds incredibly irritating.
* Neither teenager nor in school, but ''VideoGame/{{Touhou}}'''s Yuugi Hoshiguma's usual outfit greatly resembles a cross between a gym uniform and a long pleated skirt, and fan art frequently has her going either way for {{Fanservice}} reasons. Being an oni, she is also usually drawn head and shoulders ([[MostCommonSuperpower and certain other things]]) above everybody else in the series.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Visual Novels]]
* Senba Uzuki from ''VisualNovel/AkaiIto'' is about 170 cm. tall, much taller than the heroine.
* Kyoko from ''VisualNovel/CrescendoJP'' stands at 5'8", or about 172 cm. Naturally, this makes her very self conscious.
* Sakura Oogami of ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc'' is about ''six foot three'' (192cm), easily towering over all her classmates, and her best friend frequently has to remind people that "Sakura-chan is a girl too!" She's not just tall, but also a martial artist, with the build you'd expect. While she seems proud of her strength, she also gets a bit sad when people forget that she "has a maiden's heart." To a comparatively much lesser extent, Kyouko Kirigiri is 167 cm, but appears even taller than that with her usual heeled boots on.
* ''VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair'' has 5'9" (176cm) tall [[BloodKnight Akane Owari]], 5'8.5" (174cm) [[PrincessClassic Sonia Nevermind]] and 5'8" (172cm) [[MasterSwordswoman Peko Pekoyama]].
* ''VisualNovel/FashioningLittleMissLonesome'': Ema Tachibana was bullied in elementary school because of her height, but once she hit puberty and got even taller, her schoolmates have been avoiding her because of her height and TsurimeEyes, believing that she's terrifying. As a result, Ema has become socially awkward and has a misguided view on life itself. Meeting her two LoveInterests allows her to grow as a person and accept herself. Speaking of which, one of them takes her height measurement, revealing that she has recently grown taller, up to 173.4cm, towering the other love interest by a couple of centimeters.
* Though there isn't much opportunity to show it in ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'', in the [[MergingTheBranches sort-of]] sequel ''VisualNovel/FateHollowAtaraxia'' Rider is shown to be fairly self-conscious about her height. It's shown to be largely in part due to her (eternally youthful) sisters' frequent bullying about her size.
* ''VisualNovel/HatofulBoyfriend'' has a... weird case of this--the protagonist, Hiyoko, is the [[TokenHuman only human]] in a school full of intelligent birds. While it isn’t always brought up, the occasional (inverted?) FurryReminder pops up, like when she throws two characters having a fight out a window with little-to-no effort.
* Lilly Satou from ''VisualNovel/KatawaShoujo'' is 172cm tall, which [[https://web.archive.org/web/20140831144156/http://shimmie.katawa-shoujo.com/post/view/1315#8920 according]] to WordOfGod, makes her taller than the male protagonist, who is [[http://shimmie.katawa-shoujo.com/post/view/1315?#8920 171cm tall]]. But then again, she's of [[ButNotTooForeign foreign ancestry]]

* ''WebAnimation/AttackOnMika'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TyRVrSEnxU Iori, the protagonist of this episode]], towers over all the other studdents in her class. However this makes her target for the predatory teacher [[DepravedDwarf Mr. Shimoda]].

[[folder:Webcomics]]
* Chloe was this in the backstory of ''Webcomic/BadMoonRising'', standing well over six feet tall by the age of 15, making her notably taller than most of her classmates and teachers.
* In ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive'', Lucy is [[https://www.egscomics.com/comic/2013-06-05 5'10"]] and was [[https://www.egscomics.com/comic/tlod-008 made fun of]] due to her height.
* The ''Webcomic/MegaTokyo'' fandom were calling Ninamori ''Tall Girl'' for a long time before she was given a name, with a few comments from readers who thought she was drawn with poor perspective.
* Belial from ''Webcomic/MyImpossibleSoulmate'' is 6'4", making her the tallest member of the main cast, and she's only 16.
* The titular protagonist of ''Webcomic/RubysWorld'' is a fantastically exaggerated version of this trope, at 9'1" and 270 lbs. following her transformation. Her personality is a mixture between ShrinkingViolet and BewareTheNiceOnes.
* Violet, Dilys, Alice, and Chell from ''Webcomic/ScalieSchoolie'' tower over their classmates. While Dilys, Alice, and Chell are respectively a crocodile, alligator, and snapping turtle, and thus naturally much larger the others' animal versions, Violet the bush viper seems to be just naturally tall, especially since the other bush vipers in the cast are much shorter than her.
* In ''Webcomic/ScaryGoRound'', bookish wallflower Erin Winters mistakenly drinks an experimental growth serum and acquires Amazonian proportions (and hair). This causes her great distress, until she starts getting even with bullies, trouncing all the other girls at field hockey, and threatening her romantic rival with a beating. Also worth mentioning is one of the aforementioned bullies, called Big Lindsay.
* In ''Webcomic/SluggyFreelance'', a teenage Oasis was a Huge Gymnast. Specifically, her legs were long and thin, while the other gymnasts' were short and bulging with muscles. [[http://sluggy.com/daily.php?date=991007 They called her a freak]], naturally.
* Sun Jing from ''Webcomic/TheirStory'' is 175 cm, or about 5'8". For context, the average teenage girl in China is around 5'2".
* Esther, the demon in ''Webcomic/UnDivine'', presents as a teenage girl - except that she's [[https://twitter.com/catcoconutart/status/938907031276105729 6 feet tall]] and strongly built in proportion[[https://www.undivinecomic.com/comics/UD-77.jpg]]. Most people don't seem to find this particularly remarkable, though she does sometimes get [[https://www.undivinecomic.com/comics/UD-64.jpg looks]] or [[https://www.undivinecomic.com/comics/1503939192-UD%20127.jpg comments]].

[[folder:Web Video]]
* Memorably described in ''WebVideo/{{Gayle}}'' after Gayle kidnaps Yo-Yo Ma (played by Creator/MargaretCho):
-->'''Gayle:''' I don't mean to be rude, but I would really appreciate if you kept your cello outside, I don't wanna wake up in the wee hours and mistake that for a small intruder. If I see this at 2 in the morning, I'm gonna think some 5th grade girl who's just way too tall for her grade has broken into my home. [[DerailedTrainOfThought You know—you know the kind of girl? "Oh, you're in fifth grade? Why are you 5'2"?" Like, you know she could lift debris in a pinch. You know that kind of a girl?]]
-->'''Yo-Yo Ma:''' ...No.

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* Sarah in ''WesternAnimation/TheAmazingWorldOfGumball'' is one the tallest students at school, only behind Tina (a UsefulNotes/TyrannosaurusRex) and Hector (a furry giant)
* In ''WesternAnimation/{{Catscratch}}'', one of Human Kimberly's friends named Charlotte is an inexplicably gigantic girl. Not just tall, her head takes up about a fourth of the room. Probably some kind of parody.
* Chelsea from ''WesternAnimation/{{Clarence}}'' towers over most of the boys at the elementary school.
* Lupe from ''WesternAnimation/FanboyAndChumChum''.
* ''WesternAnimation/GravityFalls'':
** Wendy Corduroy is awfully tall for a fifteen-year-old girl. On the Gravity Falls Gossiper podcast [[WordOfGod Alex Hirsch]], in-character as Grunkle Stan, blames it on "freak lumberjack genes". Wendy doesn't seem to have any of the body image issues associated with this trope, however.
** Grenda is probably a straighter example: she's rather tall and stocky, has an [[LarynxDissonance incredibly deep and gravelly voice]], [[NoIndoorVoice shouts nearly all of her lines]], [[BigOlEyebrows sports rather mannish eyebrows]], and is shown to be [[StoutStrength incredibly strong]] (when Stan, Mabel, and Grenda needed to rescue Dipper and [[WalkingSpoiler the Author]] from an evil wizard, her weapon is ''[[ChairmanOfTheBrawl a recliner]]'').
* "Big Patty" from ''WesternAnimation/HeyArnold''. And [[http://sarajaye.superbusnet.com/Pictures/sheenacompare.PNG Sheena.]]
* Juleka from ''WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug'' is far and away the tallest female student in the show and taller than most of her male peers.
* Ingrid from ''WesternAnimation/MyGymPartnersAMonkey'' is a Huge Schoolgirl. Of course, she's a giraffe.
* Jenny from ''WesternAnimation/MyLifeAsATeenageRobot'' is 6’6.
* Candace Flynn from ''WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb'' is 5'8" at age 15, with [[Recap/PhineasAndFerbAttackOfTheFiftyFootSister one episode]] taking this trope to the [[GiantWoman literal]] [[AttackOfThe50FootWhatever extreme]].
* Princess Oom from ''WesternAnimation/PlanetSheen'', [[GiantWoman with extra emphasis on the huge]].
* Gretchen from ''WesternAnimation/{{Recess}}'' is just about one of the tallest girls in school.
* Francine Rhenquist from ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' episode, "[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS12E16ByeByeNerdie Bye Bye Nerdie]]". Not to mention that she's a school bully (on impulse) who only beats up the smart kids.
* Pearl from ''WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants''. An ordinary teenager, except she's a whale. [[ObliviousAdoption Whose father is a crab.]]
* ''WesternAnimation/SummerMemories'' is set between school years obviously, but Jason's friend [[OnlyKnownByTheirNickname Tall Girl]] qualifies. She stands more than twice the height of her fellow 11-year-olds and has her head concealed behind clouds all the time.
* Using the known height of Alejandro (6'0") as a reference, [[LoonyFan Sierra]] from ''[[WesternAnimation/TotalDrama Total Drama World Tour]]'' stands 6'3"— she surpassed [[AlphaBitch Heather]] as the tallest girl on the show, and only two of the guys (Geoff and DJ) are taller! Most of the other girls are notably tall, though; Lindsay is about 5'6" and at least Heather and Katie are taller than her.
** Pahkitew Island introduced [[AwesomeAussie Jasmine]] who (not counting Dakota after she got mutated) is the tallest contestant of all, standing two heads taller than most of the other contestants.
